HIS MAJESTY'S GOVERNMENT
GOUVERNEMENT DE SA MAJESTÉ

The Government of Mapleston, otherwise known in French as Gouvernement de Sa Majesté, or formally as His Majesty's Government in Mapleston (Le gouvernement de Sa Majesté à Mapleston), is the federal administration through which authority is exercised in Mapleston. The Government was established in 1690 as a federal constitutional monarchy, wherein the Crown acts as the "basic building block" of its parliamentary democracy. The Crown is thus the foundation of the executive, legislative and judicial branches of the Maplestonian government. Further elements are outlined in the Constitution, which includes written laws and statutes, court rulings and unwritten constitutional conventions developed over centuries.

Executive authority lies within the Sovereign (currently King Charles) but is exercised in his name only by, or upon the advice of the Prime Minister and a sub-committee of the Privy Council called the Cabinet. They are responsible to Parliament and not to the monarch, in accordance to the principles of responsible government. The position of Prime Minister, Mapleston's head of government, belongs to the leader of a political party most likely to command the confidence of the House of Commons.
