IKANAM NAVAL BASE - A small plane coming in for a landing at the Ikanam Naval Base suffered a control failure while landing, causing the plane to roll over, officials said.

The Maverick 82, a part of the Civil Air Patrol, landed shortly after 1 p.m. Wednesday at the naval, located at 2155 S Mission Road. The Civil Air Patrol is the longtime all-volunteer Andvari Air Force auxiliary.

The plane was on an authorized Coast Guard patrol flight with two pilots on board when it landed on the runway, but suffered a complete loss of control.

The pilot made overshot the runway and the plane rolled over, fire officials said.

One of the three occupants inside died at the scene. The other two were taken to a local hospital and are in stable condition.
