Rough Summary of Valokchia's History

Humans were striving for a long while in the region thousands of years before they began settling down in what is now present-day Kolechia. It was along the Minija river which is the longest and largest river today in Valokchia. Due to the Kolechian Civilization's geographic location, and no other organized tribes or forces equivalent to or superior to theirs, they were easily able to conquer almost all of present-day Valokchia within a span of several centuries. They were able to maintain their territory only for less than a century when the Kolechian Empire gradually succumbed to civil war from weak leadership and the shifting of cultures from all over the empire. During the middle ages, Valokchia was now comprised of up to a hundred small feudal kingdoms, duchies, and city-states not apart of any larger entity of mutual cooperation.

The large hodge-podge of small states was very unstable and filled with conflict, many kingdoms had their own group of vassals, the most dominant of which were the Arstotzkans, which was the most dominant and largest of them all. The House of Sokolov was the family that led Arstotzka, and many other small states, most of which were vassals and tribute states, it was feared greatly as their strong military as well as their loyal subject states. It was also very influential, their presence and power, as well as a period of very strong leadership, slowly kept the peace between most or all smaller states, as many assimilated their vassals into them.

By the 1200s, the region was completely united not under Arstotzkan control but a union between all kingdoms that absorbed their vassals, which Gediminas II, the monarch responsible for directly contributing towards the 2nd unification of the region, coined it as "Valokchia" which in ancient Arstotzkan tongue it meant "Hope Land." The first few years of it were uneasy, it began with small-scale rebellions that were easily crushed, and the scare of outside powers prevented further conquering, which also diminished the idea of colonization much later in its timeline. The House of Sokolov ruled over the empire, it's strong leadership, association with the Church, and skilled grooming of children to be prepared for monarch status.

The empire reigned for over 700 years, up until the 19th to the early 20th century when it slowly but suddenly started to decline. The peasant population was also being encouraged once Karl Marx had published his writings on socialism, and in 1934, a sudden revolution sparked that lasted for over 3 months, killing 2,000 people and then installing socialism and thus ending 700 years of monarchy, and led to the purging of the House of Sokolov. Socialist rule lasted exactly 60 years, and like with the past empire, it remained slightly isolated in regards to foreign affairs, only being able to do only trade, and keeping loose and somewhat negative relationships between neighbors. By 1994 the idea and support of Marxism were rather unpopular, and strikes all around the nation led to an eventual revolution once again, ending 60 years of Marxism. The end of the 1994 revolution led to a constitution being signed, creating a confederacy of states that represented the ethnicities and original kingdoms before the 1st Valokchia, and this was to be the 2nd Valokchia, the Valokchian Confederation.
 

Today was the day, 3 days since Gabija Milinyte's speech following the death of Danilo Pejic and the announcement of the parliamentary wide vote to be commenced on this day. The candidates were numbered at 8 people, whoever got the most popular votes among them, wins the vote and would be sworn in as the 5th president of the Valokchian Confederation. It was between the acting president, Kaminsky, and the Speaker of House Gabija Milinyte, and the 6 governors that ruled over the states of Valokchia. Gabija Milinyte was destined to become the Prime Minister if Kaminsky were to appointed, as he said in the past of considering her as his running mate in the upcoming election. Due to only the parliament having the power to vote at this time, protests ensued due to them being unable to have a say in who the next president was at this time, but most didn't realize this was the regular protocol in the constitution. 2 days prior, the governors, president, and speaker were hosted at the parliament again in order to speak out on their plans in the scenario of their appointment as president, each candidate had 30 minutes to speak.

Matthew Callahan of Obristan was the first up on the main podium that was overlooked by every seat, he signed the signature representing Valokchia in the MCUR, which he volunteered to do so due to his beliefs of furthering Human rights and giving liberty to all, and also providing them with the basic resources needed to live in society. Benas Gaska of Arstotzka followed after Matthew, who was a man focussing on de-regulating the markets, his beliefs basically focused on making the free market even more free than it is. The third was Samuel Hajek of Korista, his ideas were furthering militarization in favor of the nation's defense, his speech wasn't popular among the rest of the members due to the fact that Valokchia had no outside aggression to threaten it. The fourth was Ipolitas Valipas of Kolechia, an avid social democrat, Ipolitas focused on strengthening welfare and social programs in order to benefit to the poor, which included taxing those considered apart of the high class, as well as owners of major corporations in Valokchia. The fifth was Zakus Wilkes of Mordvina, his beliefs were the most drastic out of them all, and actually focused on reforming Valokchia into a federation of states rather than a confederation, which actually was against the constitution to reform the system of government. Leopoldas Jeovaisas of Antegria was the sixth up, he was the most straightforward out of them all, he immediately expressed rapid industrialization over environmentalism the second he came up onto the podium. Dimitry Kaminsky was the seventh and last to speak as Gabija Milinyte abstained from speaking, Kaminsky's speech made his focus for furthering international diplomacy, education, and other economic reforms publicly expressed, and the most popular out of them all.

Dimitry Kaminsky received the majority vote among the rest of the council, and therefore became the 5th official President of the Valokchian Confederation. He was sworn in with his left hand on the Bible and by the Chief Justice of Valokchia, Leopold Varikas. Gabija Milinyte, who was supposed to be the future running mate of Kaminsky's campaign for March 2019, was appointed as Prime Minister... Hours after Kaminsky was sworn in, a letter was sent out to all nations on Mundus.

The death of Danilo Pejic has been a tragedy for the nation of Valokchia in the past couple of days due to how sudden and unexpected his passing was. As the first duties of new the president of Valokchia, I am opening up the planned funeral for Danilo Pejic for all delegations of our international counterparts for attendance. Journalists and camera crew gathered at the back of the room, all members associating with the Valokchian Council attended the emergency meeting regardless of whatever condition they were in. They came from all over Valokchia, states such as Arstotzka, Obristan, Kolechia, Korista, Antegria, et cetera. It was over the recent death of president Danilo Pejic, his unexpected death caused a major hit to the government as Dimitry Kaminsky took office as the temporary acting president up until the voting scheduled from 3 days from now. The destiny of the president up until the next election now was at the hands of 500 people in the Valokchian Council. In the constitution, it is stated that if the president resigns or is killed, the Valokchian Council assigns the Prime Minister, Speaker of the Council, and the governors of the 6 voivodeships as candidates to be appointed as the incumbent president. The Council would then vote for each, and is mandatory for all 500 members, with the majority voted candidate being appointed as the president up until the next election. It was hoped this scenario wasn't going to play out when Valokchia came to be in 1994, but 24 years later it was the reality now. At 8:00 AM, all members came in by waves, most prepared with their bellies filled with a great breakfast and coffee, and some coming slightly unprepared and tired. The discussion of Pejic's death will ensue once they all got seated just 10 minutes later, which would continue up until 8:54 AM, when Speaker of the Council Gabija Milinyte comes up on the front podium with cameras zoomed up to her face.



"It is remarkably unfortunate that Danilo Pejic passed unexpectedly just 3 days ago. As of now, we must be disappointed that Mr. Pejic did not publicly announce or get assistance for the complication that led to his sudden death, and now we as a nation must pay the price for him being hesitant to be diagnosed with Deep Vein Thrombosis, his cause of death caused by a Pulmonary Embolism. As of now, preparations for his funeral are now underway, with all personnel, either a council member, cameraman, security guard, et cetera, being invited. An invite to this funeral will also be put out to the rest of the states of Mundus, and as well as the citizens of Valokchia to be able to mourn for the president that served our nation with honor for only 4 years. But as of now, Danilo Pejic now resides in an eternal peace, and as Valokchia continues it's course he will be remembered. And now, I would like to have a 3 minute moment of silence in mourning for the death of President Danilo Pejic."

"I thank you all for your paying of respect towards this great man. With respects being paid for aside now, it is stated in the constitution, that 8 candidates are to be chosen for voting by the Council. Those will be the acting president, myself, and the 6 governors of each voivodeship. All Council members will have a decision to make 3 days from now, to vote for each candidate to be appointed as president until the March 2019 election, which they could have a chance of running and continuing their term. Voting will last for 5 hours to give each member time to rightfully think and choose, and once all votes are put in, the next president will be officially sworn in. All 500 members are required to register a vote in, abstention from voting is NOT allowed under any circumstances to ensure a valid and complete popular vote. The candidates listed for voting are, Dimitry Kaminsky, Gabija Milinyte, Matthew Callahan, Benas Gaska, Samuel Hajek, Ipoltias Valipas, Zakus Wilkes, and Leopoldas Jeovaisas. Tomorrow will be holding another meeting in order to let each voice out their opinions and potential compromises if they were to be appointed, it is to be hosted tomorrow as only Zakus Wilkes and Dimitry Kaminsky could attend. These are the candidates, you all may choose and vote wisely, as your vote could decide the next few months up until March...

President Danilo Pejic has been found dead in his office of unknown causes later today as Presidential Service members discovered his body slumped down in his chair. There were no traces of blood or trauma at the scene, but coroners will later find out the cause of death in an autopsy. This also marks a sudden end to his term as he only served 4 years in office, and this also marks the first time a Valokchian president ever died in office. As of now, Prime Minister Dimitry Kaminsky has taken the position of currently acting president of Valokchia, with a vote by the Valokchian Council to be hosted on October 15, and will involve voting for either one of the voivodeship governors, the incumbent Speaker of the Valokchian Council, and acting President Kaminsky. Danilo Pejic will be remembered, especially in the most controversial passing of a law cutting welfare in hopes of raising employment, which lowered from 15% to 10% from 2008 to 2018.

The Union of Arstotzka was a historic Marxist-Leninist state, that gained power following a violent revolution hosted by a large sum of the working class populations in 1934 during the Valokchian Imperium and influence from Rodinia. This era of Valokchia lasted 60 years as in 1994 much of the same revolution as a crisis following after a failed coup caused a spark of extreme tension between the people and the government, of which the people took advantage of. But, during the 60-year tenure of Marxist socialism, it was quite unstable, especially several years after 1934 as attempts to topple the socialist government failed miserably.

Initiatives, such as the construction of section 8 like apartments and construction of an interstate system also somewhat benefited the country as the interstate system linked highways between major cities allowing for easier and safer travel along with easy trade. Apartment blocks constructed from the 50s to 70s are also very common within the cities of Valokchia, which most people are housed in, though they are usually not great in condition they are available at a low cost and still provides all essentials an apartment would have, a bathroom, a kitchen, one or two bedrooms, and a living room.

The Valokchian Federation, would like to extend a handout and to bid for hosting this year's pride festival, which we would like to nominate the city of Skau, Kinzakas. Skau is a close-knit city with a population very welcoming to LGBT+ according to recent studies in Valokchia. The downtown is a place filled with shops including a large shopping mall located near the central business district.

Valokchia, since the rise of democracy in 1994, has legalized gay marriage and encouraged acceptance of same-sex relationships, and since then, the majority of the population has not minded the presence of same-sex marriages and relationships. Valokchia also has laws that prevent any hard discrimination against persons that have a non-heterosexual preference as well. Though verbal discrimination can be somewhat common in some regions such as the south coast and near the Lahkzovian border, they are usually very frowned upon outside of said regions.

The theme of Pride 2018 if it was to be hosted in Valokchia is the past and the past of what Valokchia had gone through in order to gain full LGBT rights along with the rest of Mundus. It will also reflect on the hardships of people who had same-sex relationships with others in the past when LGBT was a generally taboo and often illegal action. But, seeing from the past can let us learn from it, and learning from it, which we are now starting to do, can benefit the rest of Mundus as a whole if we all stick together to learn from our past mistakes and live with our current choices today.

Skau, a bay city, although a somewhat large port the pride parade if hosted in Valokchia will be focused on parade floats. With several large boulevards, people can create their own parade floats displaying LGBT friendly art along with music. But that will be the tip of the iceberg, the Skau convention center, the largest in square feet in all of Valokchia, will be host to all sorts of LGBT art, music, food, with the mixture of Valokchian culture in order to give the tourist and the resident attending a sense of atmosphere at the event. The Fairgrounds at Skau will also be used as a large venue for a music festival, a venue that can hold over 50,000 people that is located just outside of southern Skau.

The people of Valokchia, will feel a great sense of liberty if Pride 2018 is hosted in their nation as expressing the acceptance of LGBT in Valokchia on the international scale would make them perceive their fatherland as a state that is most free among many in Mundus.

Valokchia, if they were to host Pride 2018, will likely be a nation more accepted internationally as they hosted an event embracing and expressing human rights. And hosting and even nominating a city to be voted to host the event will show that our country aligns with LGBT+ countries...

With presidential elections approaching in March of 2019, the big 5 within the parliament have been preparing to rally in order to be voted by the people on March 11. Dell Honecker of the Bolshevik party, although his party not the main opposition of the Republican Freedom coalition, is optimistic the Bolshevik party that formerly led the Union of Arstotzka from 1934 to 1994, will re-emerge to become the leading party of Valokchia. Having been the general secretary of the Bolsheviks since 2005, Dell Honecker was only closest in the 2014 election that led to Danilo Pejic gaining the main office at Gediminas Palace in Mordvina. An interview by one of our journalists recorded his optimism in the upcoming election in the coming months...

"Mr. Honecker, giving how you recorded 104 electoral votes in the 2014 election and losing to Danilo Pejic, what are your hopes for 2019?"

"I am extremely, extremely confident my actions will lead me to Gediminas Palace. People must understand that the Union of Arstotzka was beneficial to the people that lived in that era and my hopes for re-emerging it will be beneficial to all 80 million of us. They need to understand oppression by the bourgeoise is present everywhere we are, and I plan to fix it progressively, the lack of international relations with other neighboring states and others gave peace to our people from international disturbance. We need to change our current stances on the economy for us to transform it so that the entire population can benefit as a whole and can benefit this country as a whole..."

The Interstate Highway System is a system of large roads built all over Valokchia and connects the major cities of the country and provides easy and safe transport throughout the state by car. The highways end at checkpoints to Lahkzovia, Seaforth, and Eswen and are in continuous maintenance and expansion as since it starts in 1953, the project is still not complete as over hundreds of billions of dollars have been put into dedicating construction to the tens of thousands of miles of road in order to benefit the country as a whole. The project was proposed in 1950 by Sabas Sokolov and was approved once his thought was publicly expressed and in 1953 construction officially began on the highways that would soon take decades to completely link all cities of Valokchia.

Danilo Pejic smiled at Andrew's welcome to Seaforth, "It is a pleasure to meet you King Andrew... It has been so very long that our leaders have met and I granted the eternal opportunity to step on Seaforthian soil in order to consider great relations between our states..."

It had been hours since Danilo Pejic had sent the telegram up to Eventide, it was expected for him to get a reply back from Andrew III as the message was directed towards him. It had been a very, very long time since there was even a summit between Valokchia and Seaforth and since then relations had been stagnant between both, and today was the day he wanted to make a change throughout both countries. Hours pass as a guard would come into his office with an envelope in hand, "Mr. President, your telegram to Seaforth has been responded to." The guard would say, Danilo Pejic gleefully takes the envelope in hand, he'd smirk when he gently opens up the envelope taking the best care and caution to not rip it. Once he finished reading the short telegram from Andrew III, Danilo gently sets the paper down onto his desk and would stand up, "Well, for one thing, an opportunity has been fulfilled." He says with a smile, walking around his desk towards the doorway of his office, "Alright, I need a ride down to M.I.A., tell the pilots to set course for Eventide..." He gives out an order to the guard that had given him the envelope from Seaforth, after that he slowly walked out of his office with hands behind his back and was confident in his future meeting with Andrew III.

The north coast of Valokchia touches Illumic waters, and therefore that shall justify us as a permanent member of the Council of Illumic Nations as we shall hereby place a signature on the charter to signify our membership with CoIN. For Valokchia to represent in Northfort, East Moreland we shall appoint Lina Žygaite as a representative for the Council of Illumic Nations. We are hoping our membership strengthens ties between others sharing the great coastline that touches the Illumic Channel...
