Taika Sevasi found the show and speech rather a strange combination in a way. Cikniye had spent a lot of time talking about preserving culture and traditions and yet the parade seemed to feature mostly a military parade. He thought of coroantions back home and the canoes, the dances and the poems, very little military showcasing went on. But he supposed each country would have their own template for such an occasion. Then the speech, one designed as far as Taika could gauge for domestic consumption, one sentence on Lakhzovia and its connection to the world. After all the pomp and ceremony was over Taika thought for a moment on what to say before walking over. "I suppose we can now officially say Mr.President to you" he once more extended a hand. "Your speech talked about protecting your people and international co-operation. I'd like to talk about killing two birds with the same stone. In recent months you're nation are the only ones in the Krimeon region to have had any dealings with piracy. The incident sparked the rest of the region to form a coalition that has been focused on protecting maritime shipping and so far as been very successful. I know that the addition of Lakhzovian assets to the coalition would lighten the load for others by sharing it between more nations while also sending a very clear message that piracy is not welcome in the Krimeon at all. Its an easy win for your policy too, you can dress it up as protecting your nations trade and you get an easy way of saying you've got international co-operation."

Ngāti Porou Iwi

Kahurangi had looked at the mans passport as he entered, Ngāti Porou Iwi it had said. By the looks of him the officer didn't appear to have much Maori in him but ties of blood where ties of blood no matter how diluted. It was strange then that the man seemed so clueless when it came to Maori names, perhaps he was one of a number of adoptees that seemed to have sprung up over the past few years largely for political reasons, Morelanders, Cenneg, even Achkaerin royals could count themselves as part of Iwi's these days. "Kahurangi is one of those names thats common as it can appear as either a personal name or a family name. It also helps that its genderless. In your language it would literally mean sky blue and usually is given to people born on clear days, I guess our ancestors line must have been born on a sunny day." He shrugged. "Viktor though, not much of a Maori name, you never taken one?" he enquired. For a while it had been in vogue for those adopted into Iwi's who weren't foreign nobles to take on Maori names.

Ariki had spotted the dropped photo and at a glance the figure looked somewhat familiar but he was unable to place it, in this job he saw so many people they tended to merge after a while and so he didn't think to much of it. By now the young boy was ready to leave with his father. Ariki stopped and had a conversation with them. "Because of the nature of the allegation we will be carrying out a series of regular visits, unannounced of course." Ariki reached into his shirt pocket and removed a card. "If you leave your Iwi's marae you will need to inform us." It had been hard to believe that the boys mother had tried to remove him from his father's Iwi back into her own grand-parents. It had seen her take him to rugby one morning and then less than 24 hours later he was in Neu Urburzis, it was quiet a bizarre place to have gone too. "So is there much of a Maori community in Neu Urburzis?" Ariki enquired beginning to try and ponder the case from his side. "After all you're apparently Maori and out of all the places on Mundus the West of Aranye seems a rather odd place for a Maori mother to run to? Being of both worlds you'll likely gauge its appeal?"

Ariki Kahurangi had been an officer in the Commonwealths Police Force for ten years now. Meeting a foreign officer, even one that apparently was connected to an Iwi, at the airport was not his idea of utilising his skills however having recently annoyed his commanding officer by forgetting a deadline for some paperwork he sensed he was now going to get a few duties that were perhaps less about catching the criminals of Hunter's Bay. He accepted his fate and had arrived at the airport flashing his credentials and heading through to the airports own police station deep within the corridors not seen by passengers. He looked at the clock, he was early and so sat with the desk sergeant he had time for a quick cup of tea and chat about the rugby before Viktor arrived. With the arrival Ariki was informed his expected visitor was en route through the various checkpoints and ushured through the lines that made up things such as customs and passport control.

As Viktor introduced himself Ariki examined the paperwork and then spoke. "You'll need to follow me, we need a signature" he lifted a barrier in the desk and allowed Viktor and his escortee to come through, a brief walk down the corridor and into a room the boy was reunited with his father, "I need you to sign this." He handed the man the paperwork, "It says that the boy was handed over in one piece essentially" The man signed it and passed it back to Ariki who then handed it to Viktor, "Now I just need you to sign to say you've seen the boy handed back." He waited for Viktor and then the two police men left the room. "So officer is there anything else we can be doing for you while you're here?"

Taika Sevasi was pleased to be off the plane but then cursed having to get into a car. His left leg was aching today and he was trying to avoid taking the massive blue tablet the doctors had given him for the pain. The injuries caused by his time in a Seleucid "Detention centre" had seen him used as a subject for trainee medics to practice stitching up wounds and the mosaic of scars on his left leg. As the car arrived at the Presidential Palace Taika waited until the Rokkenjimans had entered. There was only one thing worse than being sat and that was standing still. This way he had a clear run so to speak at greeting Cikniye. With his walking stick in his left hand he approached the soon to be President, "Good Morning, I am Royal Envoy Taika Sevasi of the Ngāpuhi Iwi." He extended his free right hand, supressed the urge for a traditional Maori greeting thinking perhaps it was something Cikniye was not yet ready for. "Congratulations on your election victory. It is my hope that before I return home we can perhaps discuss ways at which the piracy issue you faced earlier in the year and the agreement made by the Krimeon nations can be merged."

"The Commonwealth supports this. " Tangaroa replied having been busily tapping away on his phone. "In terms of deployments to our nation we ask at the moment that the Cenneg ships deploy to Hunters Bay on the west side of the Matilda while the Lodjain and East Moreland assets deploy to ports on the east, most noticeably Carrian Bay. As for the CNN squadron we would ask, just for logistic sake, that nations send no more than a squadron of aircraft each. We have tankers and AEWACS aircraft that we know from exercises can link up with each nation so there is less need for these. We would however ask for, if possible, long range monitoring aircraft. "

Tangaroa Rangi was the son of the chief of the Te Whakatohea Iwi. He'd been here in Ui Cenneslaig now for three months and this was really his first real full scale meeting. Naturally with the situation with the Matildas taking course the Iwi was concerned.

"I'm grateful for Sir Jacobs plan but I think we should see an aviation element to as Prince Roman has suggested. What I don't want though is a situation like we've seen in the past where we've seen in several other global incidents where nations not actually from the region begin to take advantage. Therefore we fully intend to put robust presence in the straits and we would invite you all to join us."

Today I have  confirmed with CNN Partners that this summers naval exercises will be cancelled. In their place the nations of Lodja, Ui Cenneslaig and East Moreland will deploy ships to Hunters Bay as part of preparations for an expected humanitarian operation in Kalasin. I have already asked the King of East Moreland to release the provisions and equipment stored onboard the REMNS Reliant, their global pre-positioning ship which is currently in port here. While the initial aim of this deployment is to aid in any humanitarian requirements we are also hopeful of finding a peaceful solution to this looming crisis and as such the CNN HQ in Ui Cenneslaig is open to any who wish to accept our offer of mediation.

Signed

I would say considering location that the Iwi and therefore possibly the CNN would take an interest. You may though want to have a chat with Dave as the island was at one point home to Nova's nation and I know him and Dave had a thing where RS had utilised the island as a jump off on their slaving trips to the Iwi but depends how far back you're thinking of taking this.

Taika Sevasi was pleased with the agreement and cheerfully added the approval of the Commonwealth

Quote
On the 29th April 2023 the nations that have signed this document have done so with the intention of ending piracy in the Krimeon. The nations have agreed to a four step solution which is outlined in this document.

Step 1 - Protecting Shipping.

a) The Krimeon will have a recognised maritime trade route that will be divided into zones for each nation. This shall be called the Rainbow Route.

b) Each nation shall maintain a naval, and if possible, aerial prescence in the region designated to them.

c) While this route is in international waters signatories will allow, as far as possible, the nation designated that section of the Rainbow Route to take a lead in handling security for that region.

d) Details of this route will be published and commercial shipping passing through the Krimeon is recommended to utilise it.

e) Details of this route will be published and military shipping from non-signatory nations are recommended to liase with the designated responsible nation while operating in the area.

f) Any nation stopping acts of piracy in the region shall, as far as practical, take any seized vessel and its crew to the nearest signatory nation for processing.

Step 2 - Establishing Co-Operation

a) The signatory nations will, as far as possible, provide resources to a Krimeon Naval Coalition (KNC).

b) The KNC resources will be allocated first to nations who believe they need support fulfilling their patrols of the Rainbow Route and then to a multi-national team patrolling the extremities of the Rainbow Route.

c) The KNC will undertake in October 2023 a series of naval exercises and drills.

d) The KNC will establish an officer exchange programme allowing officers to gain knowledge and experience of different nations militaries.

Step 3 - Preventing the establishment of a Krimeon base of operations for Piracy

a) The signatory nations shall establish a Krimeon Strike Force (KSF).

b) The KSF shall be made up of a collection of land, air and sea assets made avaliable for missions designed to disrupt pirate operations.

c) Each nation providing forces shall nominate an officer to be their nations KSF representative.

d) If a base of operations is discovered within a nations territory or waters (territorial and EEZ) as recognised under the terms of the FSC then the officer from that nation shall take command of disruption operations.

e) If a base of operations is discovered outside of all signatory nations then negotiations with the nation in question shall be carried out by representatives of signatory nations. This may include offering KSF assets to support that nation.

f) Any individuals taken prisoner during operations are to be handed over to their home nation in the first instance so long as that nation will place that individual on trial. If that will not take place then the nation of the ship which was pirated will have authority over the prisoner on condition that they will place the person on trial. Should neither of these things be possible then the nation making the arrest will take control of the prisoner.

Step 4 - Removing the Need for Piracy

a) The signatory nations shall establish the Krimeon Development Fund (KDF)

b) The KDF shall hold a balance of funds as made available by signatory nations, private donations or corporate gifts. Any funds given more than $10,000 shall be declared publicly.

c) Any signatory nation may appoint a Trustee to the KDF.

d) The purpose of the KDF shall be to offer micro-loans to individuals in the Krimeon region who intend to establish or expand small businesses or enterprises.

e) No micro-loan may be for more than $100,000.

f) The development loans can be used for any of the following purposes.

i)To improve regional access to education
ii)To improve the standard of agriculture and aquaculture.
iii)To provide better access to clean water, energy production, health care or waste disposal.
iv)To create employment opportunities for people outside the person applying's family.

g) Those gaining mirco-loans for purposes ii and iv shall make the accounts of the enterprise available for the next eight years. Should the enterprise make in excess of $500,000 before tax the enterprise shall begin repaying the loan. Trustees shall negotiate with the enterprise a reasonable rate of repayment.

h) Once/if the enterprise begin making repayments they will be charged 1% interest. All payments, including interest shall be repaid into the KDF.

i) If after eight years the enterprise has not made in excess of $500,000 before tax then the loan shall be written off.

k) Enterprises located in any nation with a border touching the Krimeon may apply for the micro-loans.

CENNEG CARRIER REPLACES ARAWA

It was confirmed by the Ministry of Defence that today that the nations aging aircraft carrier, The Arawa, will leave service at the end of this month and be replaced with the Cenneg carrier CNV Art. The nation is also expecting the delivery of a newly constructed Cyborg class ship from East Moreland. The procurement o the two new vessels indicates the first steps in the Commonwealths new military procurement strategy. Stated two years ago King Piripi explained that the Iwi's military lacked modern equipment. Following the situation in the Alucard with Lodja several of the Commonwealths special forces were involved however in reviews of the conflict it was explained that the military were concerned if they'd had to take on a role similar to that of the Morelanders and Cenneg. Following the CNV Art arriving in Hunters Bay it was confirmed that the ship will be renamed the Hapa. One concern for the armed forces would be which aircraft could operate off the new carrier however it was later observed that during operations in the Matildas several Moana fighters operated off the CNV Cetchathach which is the same class of carrier. The aircraft however is aging and the Ministry of Defence have confirmed that a replacement will be sought in the near future.

The Arawa will be anchored in Hunter's Bay and turned into a museum ship. The vessel was originally part of the Seleucid Navy but was abandoned while in dry dock and Commonwealth forces captured Hillslet where it was being refitted. The vessel has been involved in several actions in the Kyne including taking part in a raid on Tamora that freed 62 Maori slaves. T

KING PRESENTED NEW GENDER BILL

Representatives from the Ngāti Wai Iwi have today presented to King with a bill that if accepted would officially recognise a fourth gender within the Commonwealth. Currently the nation officially recognises three genders but for the last decade or so there has been calls to add a fourth. Currently the nation recognises people as male, female or Faʻafafine, however people also have the oppurtunity on official paperwork to have an X to signify they do not conform to those three. While the labels male and female are long established, many outside the Commonwealth are less familiar with the label Faʻafafine. The word literally translates as "in the manner of woman" and has a long, all be it hard to follow, history. The label has often been given to younger children in families which have had primarily sons and needed individuals in the family unit to undertake what was considered female roles. This involved the person being raised by the females of the family and taught duties such as child-care, household management and female artistic roles. The majority of Faʻafafine maintain the role even into adulthood even when studies suggest "they believed as a child they were actually female". Faʻafafine are by some Iwi considered special as they are putting the needs of the Iwi above their own. In recent years however there has begun to be recognised by some a forth gender calling itself fa'afatama, "in the manner of man" and is seen by many as being the opposite of the traditional Faʻafafine role. Some sociologists suggest that this may be caused by families becoming smaller and with a desire to keep the male roles in the family strong some families put pressure on newborn females to adopt a male role. As such five years ago the Hunters Bay Faʻafafine Association changed its name to the Hunters Bay Faʻafafine and Fa'afatama Association and has since then been campaigning for this change.

Under Commonwealth Law an Iwi must propose the new law in a meeting of the elected members of The Kaitiaki, each Iwi elects a number of members known as Guardians. This morning Taulapapa Fitiao of the Ngāti Wai Iwi proposed what he described as "recognition for what has been happening unofficially for years. We as a Commonwealth value people for who they are and will always strive to make all Maori feel part of our larger Iwi. At the moment some feel outside that and we as legislators must work to change that. It is vital that this law passes the next hurdle." That hurdle will come in the next few weeks where both a majority of the Kaitiaki and a majority of the Iwi chiefs must accept the bill. The Bill will be read by all nine of the other Iwi before amendments are made. The Bill will then be voted on and as in 2013 the constitution gave recognition to the Faʻafafine this will also require a constitutional change and as such a simple majority of Guardians is not sufficent. Not only must the Bill gain a majority of Guardians but it must also have six of the ten Iwi support the measure. The Bill would then be passed to the King for his signature or veto.

Taika knew not all nations around the table were equal, at least not in terms of their capabilities, however as he saw it they had two seperate measures before them. "Minister Lee is correct that we all have different capabilities. If we stand our own, or the Djabidjan Navy alongside that of Eskdale or even Ruasliabh there is, how best to put this....inconsistencies. However Minister Lee I am sure that you'd agree that despite our nations lacking perhaps in quantity or in some cases modernity, we are both willing to try and step up. This rainbow route idea is essentially focusing maritime patrols, something I suspect is routine among us. Rather than roaming the Krimeon we need to agree to make our primary focus the section allocated to us on the rainbow route. I would therefore propose that in order to help those nations with less naval numbers we agree that we shall share naval intelligence on ship movements unless we deem doing so would endanger our own national security." He stopped for a moment. "Now while, embarassing as it is, the Iwi may lack modern naval capacity one thing we do have is very committed and dedicated soldiers. This task force will require manpower and we'd be more than happy to bolster that. I don't think we should set quotas or limits but each nation provide what they can within their own merits. At present this piracy is extremely low scale, if we get on top of it from the beginning then we can ensure it stays that way and a minor nuisance is easier to eradicate than allowing it to blossom and get its roots embedded."

Taika could have done without the walk after a long ride on the boat but ironically as his knee had just unstiffened itself it was now time to get down to business. He took his seat and looked round at the others, he knew very little about any of them but hopefully that would change during the course of this meeting. He took the image Lim had handed around on his computer and after some thought he raised a hand to speak, more so that it meant he wouldn't have to stand to be considered to speak. "I would like to first echo the thanks given by the High Lords son. What Lim has proposed is a solid measure and one that the Commonwealth will gladly support. Following the issues between our East Ardian neighbours and with Rokkenjima and our own relationship over the year or so our navy has been quiet active, we'd therefore easily be able to fulfil our obligation under what appears to be a "Rainbow Route" " he said looking at the multi-coloured stripe across the Krimeon. "My concern is though that this does not end piracy if there is any. To date there has been one issue that I have seen and as someone whose nation partly sits at the narrowest part of the Krimeon we are confident piracy is not a rampant issue. Now I think we can learn a lot from how the Morelanders lead the campaign that has ended piracy in the Illumic. There they didn't just seek to secure trade routes, the problem is that not all ships will use the Rainbow Route as some will have to move off to other nations or won't be transitting in the east-west aspect or vice versa, they'll be going North-South or South-North. As a result I think we need to put together a task force that is capable of responding to acts of piracy both at sea, in terms of retaking vessels, and of striking at the bases of pirates wherever they are. We can not rely on just one plan."

Taika Sevasi was the most trusted member of King Piripi's diplomatic team and so had been dispatched to Eskdale. The Maori found themselves at opposite ends of the Krimeon from Eskdale and until now had limited contact with Queen Diane. With the Maori being one of three nations that effectively controlled the Eastern end of the Krimeon via the Matildas Taika was keen to ensure the Maori were seen as doing their bit and with the Cenneg, Lodjain and East Moreland ships currently still in the Commonwealth following the Daito situation it would give him perhaps even more to play with than normally. He had to wait a few minutes for the Lijiangian aircraft to move out the way and then he cautiously decended the steps, his walking cane in his left hand a reminder of the ills done to him by the Seleucid when he was a younger man. He was not sure how to feel about Lijiang, on one hand they seemed a nation keen to rub along with the world yet they had concluded a trade deal with the very people who had destroyed most of Taika's knee cap. He waited for the High Lord and his son to step aside before approaching the Prince. "He gave a smaller bow than the Lijiang delegation, bowing being seen as not really important to the Maori but recognised as something others did and so Taika obliged. "Good Morning Prince Henry. Its a pelasure to meet you."

ARCHDUCHESS BECOMES FIRST NON-MAORI OFFICER

Today the niece of the East Moreland monarch has become the first non-Maori to serve as an officer in the Commonwealth military. The Unified Iwi Defence Force was formed in 1983 following all the present day Commonwealth unifying after defeating the Seleucid. While since that date there has been no rule saying the military must be made up of Maori it has been a rare sight to find a non-Maori serving in its ranks. Archduchess Sophie Harrison-Ironside has requested to serve on a secondment for several months and has taken up a position with 17 Squadron (Force Protection) in the Commonwealth Air Force. The East Moreland royal has served for several years in the Royal East Moreland Air Force as a dog handler, she will be joined in the Commonwealth by her K9 known as Bandit. She will hold the rank of Flight Liutenant during her stay. The Ironside family were made honourary members of the Ngāti Rongomaiwahine Iwi shortly after the Commonwealth became a founding member of the CNN.  The Ngāti Rongomaiwahine Iwi chief is Tipene Tama who has said he hopes the Archduchess, "Makes the time to visit her Maori family and embrace the full experience of being a resident here not just a visitor."

The Morelander was greeted by King Piripi as she arrived to begin her duties next week following a quick induction. Members of 17 Squadron also attended and debuted an East Moreland haka for the occasion.

"Kia whakatupato
ka haere te kuini honi
kararehe nanakia
niho rite hoari
kiri rite toka
teina whakakake
wairua hoa toa
kotahi o matou toto
tangohia to honi
me te moe pai"
Spoiler: Translation • show

Be Warned
Here walks the Honeybadger
A fierce beast
teeth like daggers
Flesh like rock
Proud Brothers
Fellow Warrior souls
Our blood is as one
Take your honey
and sleep deep.

The Archduchess responded to Flt.Sgt Watene placed a Tewhatewha (Maori Axe) before her by kneeling and picking it up. She then withdrew her own sword and presented it handle first to the Flt.Sergeant who declared this was an auspicious response. "In our culture every movement and action in a haka is analysed for its meaning. To me the Archduchess has today demonstrated a trust in us. I am well aware the Morelanders place a huge spiritual and cultural significance of their sword. She is showing us she is accepting our ways and trusting us with hers. A true demonstration of friendship." 17 Squadron will in the coming weeks be undertaking operations designed to stop smuggling in the northern Ardia region alongside the nations Navy. During the welcome King Piripi also said he hopes that the Archduchess will find time to train with some of the Maori Summer Games team. "While the Summer Games are some way off it is clear Sophie is a great in terms of the sporting world. It will be nice for some of our young athletes to see what it has taken to achieve these great things."

The King also confirmed that his 12 year old son Kimo has now fully recovered from his sledging accident late last year and will be journeying to Lodja for three months of schooling in the near future. "It has always been important that we build personal connections to our friends. I am lucky mine, Finley, David and our sadly lost Viktoriya's mutual love of rugby allowed us to form the CNN. We must make sure the next generation, including Kimo, have this love for each other as the four of us, and later Queen Klara and Natalya have. Each year of his schooling Kimo will spend some time away from home. It will make him a wiser King and Chief when his time comes to lead the Commonwealth." The Prince is said to be excited to experience life in a different country.

With immediate effect the Commonwealth of the Unified Iwi is considering all Rokkenjiman military assets as potentially hostile. Having heard of their attack on Daito aircraft over the islands in the Rokkenjiman Sea and the hostile foreign rhetoric of Charles Ofdensen who, in terms of politics, has 49.7% of Rokkenjima's public support at the last elections. We must therefore not rule out the possibility of this being the first shots in a potential civil war and escalation in the region. We are therefore formally asking CNN forces to go onto alert and we would naturally welcome our nation as a home for CNN forces for the time being.

It was true that Piripi had no love for he Rokkenjimans and was not someone to easily trust people who choose to enter politics as a career choice. As such he had no problems sending word to his envoy to the CNN, Te Taka Tūhono to agree to King David's request.

KING PROUD OF GAMES SQUAD

Today has been a mixed day for the Unified Iwi at the Mundus Games. The second day of the Boxing Competition saw another day of the Commonwealth taking every Gold medal meaning that Maori boxers took every gold on offer, moving the team up to top of the medal table. Head of Commonwealth Boxing, Jaero Meluemia said "Sports like Boxing are  psychological part of our culture. We see ourselves, whether Men, Women or  Fa'afafine as warriors. The desire to test ourselves drives us towards certain sports and Boxing is a very popular one. I'm proud of every single one of our athletes and know they've been superb ambassadors not just for the Commonwealth but for their Iwi's. We can look forward to getting home and celebrating now. It would be amazing if we could continue our push and stay top of the medal table."

An oppurtunity that would normally be considered a red hot certainity came later in the day in the Rugby 7's when the Men's team were drawn to face Royal Seleucid in the final. However as the teams headed out onto the pitch their was no arrival from the Iwi's team for three minutes until only four players emerged lead by captain Keula Rolokan. Joined by Matis Ruegua, Willie Saparani and Hosa Gerea the four men made their way to the centre of the pitch and laid down a shirt in the teams colours, Rolokan knelt with his team-mates behind him and then the players walked off to much confusion around the stadium. Moments later the entire squad, staff and officials of the Commonwealth left the changing rooms and returned to their accomodation. Speaking with the media after Rolokan said, "The Mundus Games are a games were we are expected to play in a spirit of friendship and brotherhood. This can not be done in a sport like rugby with a nation that have murdered your family. Me and my three team mates all had relatives murdered in Seleucid Death Camps, my grand-father experimented on with Anthrax. I can't go and play against a team that have still failed to acknowledge this past or do anything to bring peace. Our respect of our ancestors means more than a Gold Medal." The shirt laid on the pitch bore the symbol of a fern rather than a number, Rolokan explained, "The unfurling fern leaf respresents life beginning after the winter, this is our show of the fact that despite the Seleucid trying to wipe us out we are as a nation growing." The game was awarded to the Royal Seleucid team meaning the Commonwealth were awarded a Silver medal however the team refused to collect the medal in the official ceremony and Rolokan interfered with the raising of the Commonwealth Flag. "I will not allow it to fly lower than the murderers one." he said as he pulled it away from the official raising it.

Back in the Commonwealth King Piripi supported his team saying, "Before the games we discussed what should happen. In events like the athletics where there is a mass start and a large field the athletes felt it was right to compete as after all we have a great many friendly nations out there. We had athletes suggest that in a one versus one matchup however we withdraw. I left it to the conscience of each of our athletes and teams and from what I understand everyone has said they will not compete against the Seleucid, especially as sports like rugby traditionally see handshakes and tunnels of respect off the pitch following games. This does not fit right. I know we may face sanctions but a protest must be made. We shall continue this policy until we see Royal Seleucid make real attempts at bringing their criminals to justice and co-operating with the Historic Crimes Treaty we recently created."

NEW "MAJOR" IWI RECOGNISED

Following this years submissions of the registrations of the various Iwi's the Royal Office for Statistics recommended that the Te Ātiawa Iwi be recognised as a "Major" one. The nation is made up of Major and Minor Iwi's. To be a Major Iwi the Chief must be able to provide evidence of having at least five million members. For the past fifteen years the Te Ātiawa have been hovering at 4.9million, last year being just 12,000 of securing the status as a Major Iwi. Just an hour after receiving the recommendation King Piripi issued a Royal warrant which is required for the Iwi to be able to hold elections for 10 representatives on the The Kaitiaki. The change will also mean that three of the current Kaitiaki will vacate their seats as they represent the Te Ātiawa. They will be replaced by elected representatives from the various Minor Iwi's that elect 10 seats usually every five years.

The Chief of the Te Ātiawa is Wiremu Tamati who will now take up a seat in the Chief's Council. He is a 37 year old fishing fleet owner from Waikala. His business currently employs around 10,000 people and runs a fleet of 20 fishing vessels ranging from small four man vessels using traditional pole techniques to catch tuna up to the large drag net trawler. Chief Wiremu still aims to spend at least one day a week at sea on his ships however has admitted that may now need to change. "Previously I encouraged members of our Iwi to engage in politics and they have. We've a great track record at getting seats on the Kaitiaki previously but now we have a guarantee so I hope we'll have even more people step forward willing to serve. I look forward to being able to make a contribution myself. As the Chief is permitted to serve directly or via a representative on the Chief's Council I will start by attending myself. I am considering though a move where I will send whoever is best suited for each debate." The main reason for the Iwi getting over the 5 million mark has been a large increase in births among the Iwi over the past twelve months. "We've been spinning money away from our fishing business and various other financial resources to encourage programmes for infants and children under the age of 11. We think we need a much sharper focus on supporting the youth to consider options away from traditional land based industries. This is something I will bring up in Council. The measures we've put in place made people confident about having support for having children."

The Iwi will be hosting a day of celebration on Saturday when King Piripi visits the tribes home territories.

To Our Fellow CNN Members

We are delighted to accept both requests. We look forward to sharing our culture with Princess Rhiannon and her friend Evie and they can be assured of a warm welcome. It will be our intention to have them be able to visit several different Iwi's as although we are all Maori each Iwi has some unqiueness to them contributing to our nations culture.

We will be happy to provide a force to take part in these exercises and look forward to working with everyone involved.

Best Regards

King Piripi  not of the Ngāpuhi but of the Iwi.

IWI-NAUTS RETURN HOME

Following a successful four week mission to the CNN backed space station Lt. Vautu has today returned to Mundus along with his two colleagues. The trio have become the first astronauts from the Iwi to form an entire crew and while they may have been recovered back to Ui Cenneslaig the team were greeted via video link by King Piripi. "In a relatively short period of time we have been able to become a space faring nation. A group of people who once voyaged Mundus in canoes is now venturing into the stars that once guided our ancestors. Its a proud moment to think that our nation have been involved in every step now of the process as members of our Commonwealth helped build the rocket, helped conduct the launch and the recovery. We are grateful to the Morelanders, Cenneg and Lodjians who supported this mission and we now begin preparations for future joint operations."

While on the station the team conducted several experiments and helped install a new communications backup. Mera Vaerapolai became the first Maori to walk in space when he installed part of the communciations system on the exterior of the station. The team even spent Matariki in space an experience that Vaerapolai described as a mixed day, "On the one hand we were living out our dreams but to miss our Iwi's day of celebration is hard. We conducted a small ceremony onboard the station where each of us had brought with us a list of those who had passed away from our villages in the previous twelve months. We were as close Ranginui as any Maori has ever been and so we pray he will have heard our words. I now dream of going back someday."

The crew were relieved by a mixture of Cenneg and Morelander astronauts however this also saw another first. Maori tradition dictates people visiting your home are welcomed with a Haka and as such it was left to Teka Suleriama, the youngest of the astronauts to compose one. In tradition the haka is tailored to the location it is performed and to the Iwi performing it but with three different Iwi's represented and it taking place in a rather unique location a new one was required. Such special Haka's have been written in the past for our nations sports teams and the armed forces however what is now being called the "Space Haka" is likely to be a seldom performed one.

The answer from Sozu did not reassure the Maori that this would be the last time they were discussing a situation between the Rokkenjimans and the Heyrans. "We like the idea of the Consul. I think even if the Rokkenjimans turn round and say no we should do this anyway. I would also like to ask that we should perhaps consider inviting the other CNN and SUN nations to tie into this system. The larger we make it the better and the more "scientific data" we gather" Tama suggested smiliing as he made air quotes around his comment on data.

26
King Piripi enjoyed watching the Princess practicing her swordsmanship. Keeping alive a noble tradition was something they'd tried doing back home rather successfully. When it came to the signing he eagerly took the pen away from King David and signed the document. "For close to 400 years the Maori in the lands that became the Commonwealth were often treated as second class citizens. Once my ancestor Rangi Umaga began uniting the various Iwi's to fight for our freedoms and rights ever more harsh steps were taken against our people. By the 1970's so called detention camps had been set up where Maori like my cousin were used as pieces of meat to allow Seleucid battlefield medics to practice on, other horrors also took place ranging from using Maori for test subjects for chemical weapons, executions and beatings. Almost every Maori family of today has some link towards these crimes and yet so few of us have any sense of justice. When oppurtunities have presented themselves the world has acting to allow those accused to escape justice save for a handful of nations. Now though we hope that will change and our relentless search for those who tried to dehumanise and exterminate our people will be in front of judges very soon. I'd like to thank King David for his tireless communication with me to get this treaty done and to the others who have come here today so that we can begin a better path to justice."

27
King Piripi was the last to give his opinion. It was obviously something he was going to support as he had co-authored this with David and now even with the amendments and suggestions he had got largely what he wanted to achieve and so with a smile he joked, "I personally think this is awful." he chuckled, "Of course I support this I think we have a good chance thanks to the suggestions of our friends to get quiet a following of this document. The Commonwealth fully support the creation of the document."

Taika Sevasi and  Tama Apaita listened carefully to their host and then to the Cassiopeian. It was Taika, the Royal Envoy, who began to speak. "We have had our own issues with Rokkenjima. While your recent naval exercise is planned on being observed by an ever changing methods we've had our shipping targeted for months despite their ally Achkaerin giving a legal opinion that we did nothing wrong. We constantly are on guard against the Seleucid and such action as is still ongoing doesn't help. I like the idea the Consul suggested."

Tama took over as the more military minded of the two. "One of our concerns though is that you yourselves are not exactly innocent in this situation. There is a long history of antagonism between yourself and Rokkenjima and our concerns are that this exercise is taking place where it is as a slap to their face. Now we are beginning to see two sides becoming formed. We need to make sure that those nations on neither side of this argument are not seeing their homewaters disrupted. How do you intend to make sure that is the case?"

Kia Ora

While the Commonwealth has been given reassurances from the Rokkenjiman government that relations between us can be normalised and that moves aimed at us have been reduced we are still cautious. As a result we would welcome common co-operation designed at potentially protecting ourselves from future issues. While we maintain positive and proactive policies with our CNN allies working with regional partners will also be highly effective.

As a result please expect my cousin and Royal Envoy Taika Sevasi and my close adviser Tama Apaita to attend on my behalf.

Best Wishes

To; His Majesty King Rutger

In the coming months we are considering a range of projects that we believe that you could have a useful input on.

We also would like to strengthen our relationships with nations around the world. With recent talks in East Moreland coming to an end I would appreciate an oppurtunity to visit and discuss things face to face. If this is possible I would be very grateful

Best Wishes
