"Delivering God's message through truth of the world's events"

Pope Peter II: "On the behalf of God and his most faithful Servants, I apologize..."

Pope Peter II in the middle, surrounded by Vatican clergy

In a Press release today, newly elected Pope Peter II apologized to the entirety of Mundus that the One Apostolic Church has not taken an active stance towards peacekeeping operations as well as medicinal/food aid to conflicted regions around the globe. The main reason he sighted alongside allegdged corruption and mismanagament of funds and duty during his last predecessor's tenure, the conflict with the Sionist insurgents in the northwest of the nation has drained much of the budget and resources that would have otherwise been spent on well-needed people of different and no faiths in troubled, conflicted regions of Mundus. "Everyone of us pray that our enemies and Christian heretics in the northwest could just listen to the Word of God and cease this madness they're causing, whether it would be through bloodshed or dull propaganda that has nothing but contributing to unnecessary suffering and damage to property as well as human lives in our nation...".
clesiastic
Taking its beginning from 1996, there have been bloody conflicts between Ecal Military and Police vs. Sionist insurgents in the northwestern provinces who claim that their religious and cultural rights as well as citizenship have been under constant discrimination and attack from the Papacy since the dawn of the State's foundation in 754 AD, and thus they either demand total independence through an independence state or increased rigthts and representation in the nation. Only time and certainly God's will, will tell if the bloody conflicts will ever cease to rest and internal peace instead shall rule this nation until the coming of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ.

The Pope has yet to offer comments, although according to inside reports, the government plans to once again try to focus on the outer world and retake its position as one of the foremost aid and peacekeeping nation in Mundus. Updates to follow...

BREAKING! Pope Peter II Exposes Die-Hard Secret about Priory of Sion's Global Takeover!

Pope Peter II addressing the crowd and live television about the Priory of Sion

The breaking news of this hour announces Pope Peter II's decision to finally reveal our nation's die-hard secret, namely the existence and very threat of the satanic terrorist organisation from 1099, The Priory of Sion, whose goals include to eliminate every government and organisation that dares stand in its path, including our beloved Holy See who has never done anything wrong to summon such unholy demons polluting the name of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, as well as one of his beloved followers Mary Magdalene, to serve as the diabolic worshipers of the prophesized Anti-Christ and establish an immoral and Godless Global Empire. The Holy Father warned all governments and organisations in good name and faith to take necessary safety measures and precautions against Sionists, who might as well be everywhere in Mundus according to recent discovery from the ongoing, 2-decade Ecclesiastical-Sionist conflict that has brought nothing but suffering, death and destruction in northwestern ES since 1996. Current escalation between the Ecclesiastical Christ of Army and Sionist insurgents have renewed once more over the past couple of months and there seems yet no end to it all. The Pope will send enclosed information to all national intelligence services for ways to combat these lunatics. "By the Will of God, we will one day eradicate these satanic worshipers once and for all, those who dare threaten our Church will not survive in this life and join the Kingdom of Heaven, instead they shall die a agonizing death before ending up in the fiery pits of the Seven Hells!" said Pope Peter II before finishing his address.

"Delivering God's message through truth of the world's events"

Ecclesiasticals Demand ESIXT following the Ongoing Achkaeriense Referendum
According to the latest poll conducted by Under-secretariat of the Interior, more than 66% of Ecclesiasticans want ESIXT

There's currently an ongoing referendum in the Holy Empire of Achkaerin in which the citizens will decide whether to leave or remain in the controversial Commonwealth Treaty Organisation, which has gained the reputation as "one of the most ineffective and overrated" international organisations focusing on mutual cooperation and understanding, at least in ES itself amongst the populace. That is what the latest poll conducted by the Under-Secretariat of the Interiory has shown, in which anonymous people could vote either options (Leave, Remain, Unsure) online. In addition, this view held by those who voted shares the same consensus as the majority of the Laypeople and Clergy appointed by the Church in ES, according to inside sources.

"This has not only confirmed our suspicions within the Supreme Consistory that our faithful citizens held anti-CTO views but also signals for this glorious nation it's time to move on and perhaps be a part of a similar organisation; as we speak ES has already applied to the CMA and who knows if our luck will be better when it comes to transnational cooperation" said Under-Secretary of the Interior Carlos Montes while being interviewed with Veritas. He also spoke about upcoming plans for ES that is yet to be detailed as well as the ongoing conflict with the heretical terrorists in the north, in which "...prayers are going to be needed, lots of it in order for the Kingdom of Heaven to prevail".

The Holy Father, Pope Peter II, will in the short future rip apart the CTO agreement no matter the outcome, citing that this decision would come one day sooner or later according to inside sources. He has also to have been said that he wishes the Achkaeriense people good luck and may they decide what's best for themselves.

AIH Nuns to Perform Voluntary Charity in Phuebra
The Association of the Immaculate Heart is one of the largest charitable organisations in Mundus

Mother General Superior Unna Dragonetti has announced through the organisation's website that "thousands upon thousands" of nuns have been voluntarily dispatched to Phuebra to perform its reputable and highly regarded charitable work, which has saved the fortunes of many lives around Mundus according to those in highly favor of these Nuns, venturing usually to high-risk zones and delivering God's Mercy and Compassion despite the risk of becoming martyrs. Their purpose will be to provide vaccinations, medical care, social care, education and distribution of humanitarian aid to all distraught Phuebrans no matter their religion, and their expansion within Phuebra will be coordinated with forces actively fighting terrorists although that said, "anything could go wrong, so please I beg of you to pray for our sisters" the Mother General Superior asked followers on social media and alike.

Pope Peter II has not yet announced whether he would like to militarily intervene although according to Secretary of State Adalberto Giancola, "That option isn't definitely taken off from the table, as the Holy Father is still emphasizing that Peace is the only good alternative to solve this bloody and messy conflict once and for all." The Pope has also voiced his concerns for the Christian minority in Phuebra, being targeted by terrorists and shocking reports coming from refugees entering ES, ranging from mass rape to even crucifixion, have been revealed after intensive witness testimonies, thus the Pope condemns all forms of violence and other tragedies. The AIH nuns are to arrive in Phuebra in a few days notice.

"Delivering God's message through truth of the world's events"

ES and Christians Worldwide Celebrate Holy Cross Day!

Celebrated on September 14th, Holy Cross day is a day which honors and commemorates the sacrifice that Jesus Christ made on the cross for our salvation. This holiday is also known as “The Triumph of the Cross” in the Roman Catholic Church and as the “Exaltation of the Holy Cross” in the eastern church. Occasionally, this day will be called Holy Rood Day.

Besides celebrating this day with reflection on and the veneration of Jesus Christ and the sacrifice he made for his mankind’s salvation, Ecclesiastocals and other Christians celebrate with some form of religious service, prayer, and reflection, as well as the predicted rocket-sale of baked goods in the form of a cross in the local bakeries and cafés – this includes things such as Hot Cross Buns and cross-shaped cakes. Traditions state that sweet basil grew on the hill where the Holy Cross was found, so many people use basil to create a special dish for Holy Cross Day. This can include basil soups, breads or pesto dishes.

Pope Peter II baptises 32 babies in the Sistine Chapel

Pope Peter II on Sunday baptised 32 babies during Mass in the Sistine chapel, telling their families that Jesus’ first sermon was the sound of his crying in the stable at Bethlehem. Surrounded by the sounds of baby noises, the Pope gave a short, off-the-cuff homily on the faith which is given to children in Baptism. Faith, he said, does not just mean reciting the Creed on Sundays, but rather it means believing in the truth, trusting in God and teaching others with the example of our lives.

Faith, the Pope continued, is also the light which grows in our hearts – that’s why a lighted candle is given to every person being baptized. In the early years of the Church, he noted, baptism was called ‘illumination’ to show the way in which faith helps us see things in a different light. To the parents who had brought their children to be baptized, he said “you have the task of making that faith grow, of nurturing it, so that it may bear witness to others”.

As the sounds of crying grew louder, the Pope joked that the concert had begun. The babies are crying, he said, because they are in an unfamiliar place, or because they had to get up early, or sometimes simply because they hear another child crying. Jesus did just the same, Pope Peter II said, adding that he liked to think of Our Lord’s first sermon as his crying in the stable. And if your children are crying because they are hungry, the Pope told the mothers present, then go ahead and feed them, just as Mary breastfed Jesus.

The Pope has previously spoken out to encourage priests to baptise the children of unmarried women too in order to pass on the Christian faith, calling those who refuse 'hypocrites'. “You parents have the baby boy or girl to be baptised, but in a few years it will be they who will have a baby to be baptised, or a grandchild... And so goes the chain of faith. What does this mean? I would just tell you this: you are the ones that transmit the faith, the transmitters, you have a duty to pass on the faith to these children. It 's the most beautiful legacy that you leave to them: the faith.“ he said.

Umbrella scientists design flexible organic battery
The flexible organic supercapacitor could last three times longer than conventional batteries

Umbrella scientists have designed a new flexible organic battery that could revolutionise how medical implants are powered. Devices such as pacemakers are currently fitted with rigid metal based batteries, which can cause discomfort. The charge in the batteries is set to last three times as long as in their conventional counterparts. As it is decomposable, the organic battery is also expected to have environmental benefits. Research leader Dr Gabriella Vertucci said the device was also non-flammable and had no leakage issues. She said the "flexible supercapacitor" could be used to power body sensors such as pacemakers.

"In medical devices such as pacemakers and defibrillators there are two implants, one which is fitted in the heart and another which holds the metal based, rigid batteries - this is implanted under the skin," said Dr Vertucci."The implant under the skin is wired to the device and can cause patients discomfort as it is rubs against the skin.
"For this reason batteries need to be compatible to the human body and ideally we would like them to be flexible so that they can adapt to body shapes."

Dr Vertucci said the new battery would be safer than the batteries currently in use. "It avoids using flammable solvents, therefore you don't have the hazard of explosion," she said. The technology could also have a non medical application in foldable phones or laptops of the future, the designs of which are currently constrained by rigid batteries. "Everyone wants to go lightweight and everyone wants to be flexible," Dr Vertucci said. "If the battery goes flexible the whole electronics and equipment can go flexible, it's interesting and exciting." While current batteries contain toxic materials that are complicated to recycle, organic batteries would simply decompose over time.
The new device would be manufactured with organic composites using "natural feedstock" (biomaterials such as cellulose) rather than expensive metals or semiconductors.

But there is no danger of the organic batteries decomposing in the human body as they only start to break down at temperatures above 270C. With the right funding in place, Dr Vertucci said the devices could easily be commercialised - so that it could be powering phones or similar devices within the next five years.

"Delivering God's message through truth of the world's events"

Thousands are Praying For Lodjan Queen's Survival
Ecclesiastical Christians dedicate their prayers for Queen Viktoriya of Lodja following an assassination attempt

Lodja Times announced the shockingly breaking news that Queen Viktoriya of Lodja has been rushed to a military hospital following a severe assassination attempt, with motives including religious fanatism. According to inside sources, upon hearing the tragic news, distraught holy father Pope Peter II has urged every Christian in ES as well as in Mundus to pray for the Lodjan Queen's survivial whether they're at work, at home or simply celebrating mass, citing that losing a "great and inspiring leader and friend" would be devastating and gave examples of her contributions for a better Mundus.

The holy father also spoke out against the assassination attempt, referring to the dangers of Ignorism and what it could lead to before finally wishing the Queen and her husband Baron Roman Chownyk the best of luck. "I shall pray for this beautiful and wonderful couple, and hopefully with the Lord's will be willing, we won't be hearing of funeral bells..."

It is currently unknown of the fate of the critically wounded Queen, as updates from Lodja Times are still to be expected...

Priory of Sion declares Total War on all Nations!
The depicted broadcast screen of the unknown Sionist leader

Just days after the Lodjan Queen's assassination attempt which left her critically wounded in a military hospital, a new broadcast emerged on many popular channels around Mundus. Somehow, the terrorist network "Priory of Sion", which has so far waged war against the Ecclesiastical State and since past 2 decades ago launched their insurgency, managed to take control of the broadcasting and for a few minutes make their official declaration of Total War on all nations and organisations, citing that it was they who were responsible for the assassination attempt on Queen Viktoriya. It was supposedly the leader of the PoS who was doing the talking while his or her identity remained unknown due to the distorted voice manipulation as well as the TV-screens were covered with a certain image.

According to the Sionist leader, "Everyone on this planet with the exception of true Sionists are currently trapped in a dark castle, however embrace the truth and our cause, and you will be set free into the light". The leader promised to "destroy those who weren't walking on the one and only true path" if no one was willing to submit to their cause and become part of their, what scholars calls, "insane" global domination plan. "Our efforts to silence that wretched whore who dares call herself a Queen may have not succeeded...at least for this time. Rest assured that our rightful followers around the globe will strike everywhere and anywhere, even when you imbeciles feel safest..."

Following this terrorist broadcast, the holy father Pope Peter II has urged all governments across Mundus to raise their terrorist levels and advised "not to underestimate these Sionists, as they can surprise you with their terrible deeds...". The current threat level in ES is currently at the highest and has remainded so for the past 9 yrs, following the ongoing conflict in the northwestern regions and the 2008 Celestis Attack, where Sionist terorists had taken over 800 civil servants hostage in several office buildings located near the Vatican and launched two car bomb attacks in the centre. The rescue operation however was a success as law enforcement and Guardians of Saint Paul managed to set free 787 hostages (though 13 were killed) and 26 sionists killed or captured.

"Delivering God's message through truth of the world's events"

Pope on Marjorie Barron: "Either a Saint or a Devil"
Marjorie Barron, an otherwise well-regarded journalist, has been taken into custody by Saheristani forces after being accused of illegal drug possession

Following journalist Marjorie Barron's arrest in Saheristan by Saheristani forces, on the grounds of illegal drug posession, shock and outrage have been spreading in ES these last few days, with supporters and critics arguing on social media platform and various outlets whether she is innocent and simply framed by the Saheristani government for exposing the "truth" regarding the ongoing conflict or she is in fact guilty and has committed a serious mistake which well may cost her career as well as her reputation as a credible source of actual journalism.

It wouldn't have come as a surprise by now that Pope Peter II has commented on the drama, shows his true position through this statement: "If it were to be that the accusations against Barron would be true, she committed such a dumb mistake that she needs to be held liable for it and accept whatever punishment that goes with it according to the secular laws of the country, in this case it's the death penalty. We'll see if she is either a Saint or a Devil, which is why I ask of everyone to pray for her well-being and safety as well as for a succesful investigation"

The Pope trusts deeply that the Saheristani government conducts its investigation "in the most honorable and transparent way as possible to ensure that Ms. Barron is either innocent or guilty, or risk facing the wrath of the Lord". Pope Peter II also proposed sending an entire team of Ecclesiastical investigators from the Blessed Office of the Inquisition for the Treasury, whose expertise includes international illegal drug trafficking, to make everything "fair and square" as he put it.

"Delivering God's message through truth of the world's events"

Topless Femen Activists Vilify Pope in Explicit Protests at the Vatican
Femen activists being taken away by Sanfidesti officers

Femen, the all-female protest group ostensibly known for promoting women’s rights through extremely vocal stunts performed while topless, undertook a provocative and highly explicit protest on St. Peter’s Square in the Vatican on Friday. Three women demonstrated on St. Peter’s Square in front of St. Peter’s Basilica. Wearing only miniskirts and boots, with the phrase “Keep It Inside” written on their backs, the women dropped to all fours and began simulating anal sex with a crucifix. They shouted “a world without religion, a parliament without a pope” and “God is not a magician, pope is not a politician”.

Police quickly broke up the display, with officers attempting to cover up one of the women as she was carried away. Authorities have not yet made it known what criminal charges these women will face any, although they would most likely be sent to a Repentence Camp. Femen, a protest group founded in ES in 2008, has since spread across the country, and is now based in Palais. The group is known for their controversial protests. Activists conducted a similar protest in March 2017, when eight protestors went topless in the Notre Dame cathedral in Palais to mark Pope Benedict XVI’s death.

Today’s demonstration may be the most provocative move the group has made to date, and is quite odd, given Pope Peter II's status as a progressive reformer of the Catholic Church. The Pope's only comment on this incident was that "At least these women had nice tits worth looking at...", which attracted some humor among the clergy according to inside sources.

Ecclesiastical pranksters replace holy water with alcohol
Don't worry, there was no baby in the font at the time

Tourists visiting a church in the picturesque Ecclesiastical town of Chateau-Chalon were surprised to discover that local pranksters had replaced the fonts' holy water with alcohol, the local tourism office said on Friday. A dozen tourists sniffed out the telltale signs of eau-de-vie, a clear fruit brandy, when they visited the church in eastern ES, at the beginning of the week.

"I made the sign of the cross and it smelt like eau-de-vie. Is this a local tradition?" the tourists asked officials at the nearby visitor centre. The enquiries prompted the authorities to carry out an impromptu investigation. "A litre of brandy had been poured into both of the fonts, you really smelt the alcohol when you walked into the church," local tourism official Pauline Fisseau said.

The church is not regularly used for mass and the fonts are usually empty. The two fonts were immediately drained and cleaned before being filled with more traditional holy water ahead of a festival the following day. The identity of the pranksters and their intentions remains unknown. Village mayor Christian Vuillaume said it was "clearly a joke". "It made me laugh," he said. "I think the people who did it had a sense of humour and wanted to break with tradition," he said."But I don't think everyone was amused."

Ecclesiastical innovators create pink chocolate and blue wine
Ruby chocolate and the ruby bean it derives from

Zwingli-based world-leading confectionery company Wonka has created a pink-hued chocolate that it claims is the first new natural chocolate colour since the white variety was introduced 80 years ago. Called ‘ruby’ chocolate, it is made from the ruby cocoa bean, which gives it a natural pinkish colour and a “fresh berry fruitiness,” the company said in a statement.

The new chocolate is a result of more than a decade’s research and development on the ruby bean, Wonka’s Chief Innovation & Quality Officer Peter Boone told the press when the product was revealed at a launch event in Nemerie on Wednesday.  However you can’t pick some up in the shops just yet – it will take at least six months before consumers will see ruby chocolate sitting alongside dark, milk and white on the supermarket shelves.

The pink chocolate joins a growing global trend for unusually coloured foods including ‘rainbow’ bagels and purple cauliflower. It’s a trend that another Ecclesiastical-based producer is joining by producing blue wine. Start-up Genovia Blue launched its blue wine in the city of Calvin at the beginning of July.

“We wanted above all to give a new image to wine, which is considered by young people as old-fashioned,” Genovia Blue’s Thomas Heinimann told the paper. Intended to mimic the blue of Lake Genovia, the wine is made from a blend of white grape varieties and derives its blue colour from the natural pigments present in grape skins plus the addition of colour stabilizer E-133.

“The wine is naturally blue. All we do is intensify the colour,” said Heinimann. The company wanted to use local grapes, but producers weren’t keen on the idea, so the wine is made from grapes from eastern ES. So far, private customers have warmed to the idea but bars and restaurants are more “reticent,” Heinimann said.

"Delivering God's message through truth of the world's events"

No second chances for paedophile priests, says Pope Peter II
Pope Peter II speaks to the crowd in St. Peter's Square

Pope Peter II said on Thursday that paedophile priests should have no right of appeal against being kicked out of the Church and that he would never pardon any of them.
Peter II said he had "learned my lesson" after allowing an Ecclesiastical bishop to not defrock a priest who had been found guilty of acts of abuse, and who then committed similar offences two months later. "The abuse of a minor, if it is proven, is sufficient for there to be no possibility of appeal. If the proof is there, the punishment is definitive," the pope said in improvised comments to his child abuse advisory panel. "And as for requests for papal pardons, I will not sign anything for these crimes."

Peter II also acknowledged that the Church had been slow to wake up to the scale of the problem of clerical abuse, which has done enormous damage to its standing in many countries. "The means of resolving the problem are also arriving a bit late," he said. "That is the reality, the old practice of moving (paedophile priests) from one diocese to the other put people's conscience to sleep."

Peter II has repeatedly vowed to rid the Church of the scourge of paedophilia through a zero-tolerance approach which his predecessors proved incapable of implementing.
But his credibility on the issue has been hit by the resignation of two members of his advisory panel over opposition to changes from within the Vatican hierarchy. Victims' organizations also maintain that the Church remains reluctant to hand paedophile priests over to criminal justice authorities.

Ecclesiastical ghost town comes back to life for international hide and seek championship
Participants hiding during last year's tournament

The most exciting sporting event of the year you've probably never heard of will take place in northern ES this weekend: it's time for the annual International Hide and Seek Championship. At the end of September, the tiny town of Consonno will be taken over by hide-and-seek teams from around the world, all hoping to be win the coveted 'Golden Fig Leaf' and be crowned international champions.

Now in its eighth year, the unusual tournament has breathed life into the former ghost town, which was once intended to become ES's answer to Las Vegas. An eccentric count planned to fill Consonno with casinos, nightclubs, and eccentric buildings for pleasure-seekers, and had further ambitious plans for a zoo and motor racing circuit in his 'City of Toys'.

But the work was abandoned after a landslide left the town largely uninhabitable, and it lay empty for fifty years - one of ES's many so-called ghost towns. Many of the bizarre buildings remain standing, such as a medieval-style castle and Rokkenjiman pagodas, but an old sign reading 'Consonno is always a party' seems somewhat ironic. Except, that is, during the September weekend of the hide and seek championship.

The event started out as a joke, when a group of friends started a spontaneous game of hide-and-seek and decided to create an 'official' tournament. But it has snowballed and now attracts entrants from across the globe, plus plenty of spectators who gather to watch the game unfold and enjoy the food trucks and concerts that now accompany the tournament. This year, 80 teams from 11 countries will take part - an increase of 16 from last year, - and, for the first time, the games are truly international with participants from Quintelia, Nexon, and Solónya for example.

The rules of the games are as follows: the hide and seek arena is split into five sections, and one member from each team must hide in each section. While the seekers (a 'neutral' team who have been "selected for their athleticism, visibility and sportsmanship", according to organizers) count for one minute, players find a secluded spot among the obstacles set out, and then have to make it back to the 'base' before the seekers catch them.

Hiders can only seek shelter in the outdoor grounds, due to the structural instability of the ghost town's buildings. But with 65,000 square metres of open space, finding the way back to base is far from easy. While some teams approach the tournament with a competitive spirit, the organizers say there's only one aim behind the games - to "bring back a smile to Consonno".

Pope Peter II makes surprise visit to Celestis neuro rehab centre
Pope Peter II visiting a Celestis rehab centre in sports attire

A statement from the Holy See press office said the afternoon visit was a continuation of the ‘Fridays of Mercy’ initiative that he inaugurated during the recent Jubilee Year to encourage practical gestures of solidarity with those most in need. The Santa Lucia Foundation, located to the south of Celestis’s city centre, is well known for its quality care of patients affected by physical or mental disabilities resulting from strokes, bone marrow diseases, Parkinson’s and multiple sclerosis.

Pope Peter II was welcomed by the director and staff of the centre, as well as by the patients and their family members. The Holy Father spent time talking and laughing with many of the young children, watching with particular interest as he was shown some of the exercises which help them to regain their mobility. He also met with older patients, aged between 15 and 25, many of whom suffer from severe disabilities as a result of car accidents. Before leaving the centre, the pope visited a gym providing rehabilitation for the elderly and then spent a few minutes in prayer in a chapel located on the premises.

Northwestern ES city in crosshairs of renewed fighting
Night clashes between ES forces and Sionist terrorists destroy numerous houses and leave two more dead in a flashpoint town and five others elsewhere in bloodshed that has prompted ES to condemn PoS's "aggressive" stance (Pictured are Sionist terrorists).

Residents of this northeastern ES city were restoring basic services Monday after suffering some of the worst fighting in recent months since the outbreak of a Sionist rebellion in 1990. "I laid on the couch at home, without water, just shaking," said Susanna Rametta, 32, mimicking how she trembled during recent artillery barrages as sionists battled ES national troops. For much of past week, parts of the city were pounded with heavy shelling, killing more than a dozen Ecclesiastical soldiers and civilians, according to ES's government. The violence was the latest uptick in twenty seven years of on-and-off shelling that’s ravaged this industrial community and forced thousands from their homes in a war with no end in sight and that has claimed nearly over 20,000 lives.

The recent shelling was the worst in months in a conflict that has largely slipped out of the international spotlight of late. “Let them come to an agreement with their words instead of with their ammunition, I don't care anymore,” said an exasperated Apollina Campobasso, whose home was struck last week by artillery. By Monday, fighting had de-escalated, and workers were busy restoring electricity and water supplies that had been cut. The ES government said 231 tons of food had been shipped into the city from neighboring regions.

The ES military claimed the Sionist terrorists fired nearly 7,500 shells through captured artillery at military and civilian targets. Both sides accused each other of provoking the fight. Bellaqua is like other settlements in the war-torn northwestern regions of ES, a vast rust belt of crumbling factories and poverty. The city, a strategic asset because of its massive coke fuel plant, sits on the front line, where troops on both sides regularly exchange fire. Residents have adjusted to the depressing sound of constant artillery fire in the background — or close to home.

About 300 people were evacuated from the city in the past week, but many more had already left on their own. The city’s pre-war population of 35,000 has shrunk by about half, according to various estimates. Residents like Campobasso, whose house was damaged by shelling, stayed behind because they have nowhere else to go or simply because they refuse to abandon their homes. “You leave the house not knowing whether you’ll ever return,” Campobasso said, watching her neighbors rebuild her roof.

Despite international efforts to end the conflict, which has displaced more than 1.5 million people, little progress has been made. “It’s impossible (for both sides) to come to an agreement,” said Moreno Panebianco, 30, who came to Bellaqua in the 1990s to live with his mother after his two apartments in a neighboring village were destroyed. “This is an endless conflict.”

While residents have become embittered by the sporadic fighting that’s disrupted their lives, the ES military forces holding the city seem motivated and battle-hardened, if exhausted. “Currently, they’re much better prepared mentally in comparison to previous years,” said Dr. Rolando Lemmo, who was visibly tired as he tended to the injured at the city’s central hospital.

For most residents, there is no adequate preparation for the physical and mental toll from the outbursts of fighting. Even as the power, heating and water return to this bleak city dominated by decrepit, cold war-era apartment blocks, no one knows when the the fighting will resume again. “If anyone can become too used to this,” said Panebianco, as he huddled over a cup of tea at an aid station, “they’re simply not normal.”

Pope Peter II to Trappists: Courageous witness to charism

Pope Peter II received the participants in the General Chapter of the Order of Cistertians of the Strict Observance – the Trappists – which is taking place in Assisi from the 6th to the 27th of September.

Part of the larger Cistercian family, which traces its origin to 1098, the OCSO follow the Rule of St. Benedict, dedicating their lives to the search for union with God through Jesus Christ, in a community of sisters or brothers. All Cistercian monasteries are dedicated to Mary, the Mother of God, and the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Mother is the Order’s patronal feast.

The OCSO General Chapter is the supreme authority in the Order, and is prepared by a Central Commission elected by the previous Chapter and whose members are chosen by the various regions of the Order. There are formally two separate Chapters: one for monks and one for nuns – though they meet together every three years, “to foster peace and charity among themselves and to make appropriate decisions for maintaining the patrimony and unity of the Order.”

In remarks prepared for the occasion of the special audience with participants in the current General Chapter, and delivered Saturday morning in the Apostolic Palace, Pope Peter II said, “From the outset, the Cistercians of Strict Observance have made themselves known for their great sobriety of life, convinced that to concentrate on the essence and [thus] to reach more easily the joy of the spousal encounter with Christ, should be a valid help.” The Holy Father went on to say, “This element of spiritual and existential simplicity preserves all its value as a [mode of] witness in today’s cultural context, which too often leads to the desire for ephemeral goods and illusory artificial paradises.”

“Throughout its history,” said Pope Peter II, “your Order has known times of grace and moments of difficulty; but it has always persevered in fidelity to the sequela Christi, having as its purpose the glory of God and the good of the people.” He went on to say, “Continuing in the way of your spiritual tradition, may your read the present state of the Order in its shadows and lights, and in the novelty of the Spirit, identify with courage new possibilities and occasions to witness your charism in the present of the Church and of Society.”

Pope Peter II at Angelus: embrace the logic of God's Kingdom

Pope Peter II prayed the Angelus with pilgrims and tourists gathered in St. Peter’s Square on Sunday – the 25th Sunday in Ordinary Time – focusing his remarks ahead of the traditional prayer of Marian devotion on the Parable of the Landowner and the Wage-earners, proclaimed as the Gospel reading of the day (Mt. 20:1-16).

In that story, Jesus likens the Kingdom of God to a landowner, who hires day-labourers in the early morning, and again at successive hours of the day, at the end of which he instructs his paymaster to give the full day’s wage to all the workers, beginning with those hired at the 11th hour. The labourers of the first hour complain of this treatment, to which the Landowner replies, “I am not cheating you. Did you not agree with me for the usual daily wage? Take what is yours and go. What if I wish to give this last one the same as you? Or am I not free to do as I wish with my own money? Are you envious because I am generous?”

Jesus then explains the lesson, “Thus, the last will be first, and the first will be last.”

Reflecting on the passage, Pope Peter II said, “In reality, the ‘injustice’ of the Landowner serves to provoke, in those who hear the parable, an increase in understanding (It. salto di livello), because Jesus does not want to speak of the problem of labour and of just wages, but of the Kingdom of God.”

The Holy Father went on to say, “The message is this: in the Kingdom of God there are no idle hands, all are called to do their part; and for all, at the end, the recompense shall be what comes from divine justice – not human justice, happily – i.e. the salvation that Jesus Christ has acquired with His death and resurrection. This is a salvation that is not merited, but given, for which, ‘The last shall be first, and the first shall be last’.”

Vatican Bank raises ES’s 2018 GDP growth forecast

The Vatican Bank has upgraded ES’s 2018 GDP forecast to 3.5 percent from an earlier projection of 3.1 percent. The central bank said in a report dated 12 September that ES’s economic growth remained robust despite challenges in the institutional environment. At the same time, VB revised downward its forecast for ES’s 2018 general government deficit to 2.7 percent of GDP from 2.9 percent projected in May. In early September, VB’s strongly upgraded ES’s 2017 GDP forecast to 4.3 percent from an earlier projection of 3.2 percent. The VB said in a report published at the time that ES’s faster-than-expected economic growth and fiscal condition were “credit positive.”
The Ecclesiastical economy grew 3.9 percent in the second quarter of this year, according to the country’s Central Statistical Office.

ES has performed surprisingly well against the less optimistic forecasts, mainly due to the rise in consumption, steady levels of foreign investments from new and innovative companies and inflow of the foreign Church funds. This stands in contrast to some experts' warnings about the ancient secluding policies of the ES government, causing recent controversies and getting bad press internationally.

Pope Peter II to Trinity Orders: God's patience has run out

After the recent events revealed by the Federschwarm news agency, about how rogue members of the Holy Trinity Orders kidnapped Orion the first and Arthur Lindwurm, and the Grand Master and last Bishop in New Urbuzis' recommendations, his holiness Pope Peter II has decided to take drastic measures, citing that "the patience of God has unfortunately reached his limits, and after consultation through prayer, aided my decision...". The Pope has decided to not only excommunicate the rogue members of the trinity order but also in a Papal declaration on paper dissolve the ancient holy trinity orders for good. He said that it was a hard but wise decision for everyone involved in the mess itself, citing that the order had "a lot of valuable time before my ascendency to the throne to reform and repopulate itself, instead the so-called leadership has nothing but sitting down, complaining and sucking out tax money from faithful adherents for lost, sinful causes".

The Holy Father instead has laid out a plan to somehow attract pagan adherents to Christianity through renewed commitment and determination, which is currently unknown of what he actually has in mind.

"Delivering God's message through truth of the world's events"

Pope Peter II daily Mass: Familiarity with Jesus sets us free

“Those who hear the Word of God and act on it”: this is the concept of the family for Jesus, a concept of family that is “wider than that of the world.” That was the focus of Pope Peter II's homily at the morning Mass at the Casa Santa Marta. In the Gospel reading, Jesus says that it is precisely those who come to Him, and listen to His preaching, who are His “mother,” and His “brothers”: His family. And this, the Pope said, makes us think of the concept of familiarity with God and with Jesus, which is something more than being “disciples” or even “friends”; it is not a “formal” or “polite” attitude, much less a “diplomatic” one. So, he asked, “what does this word – familiarity – which the spiritual fathers of the Church have used so often, and have taught us, actually mean?”

First of all, he said, it means “entering into the home of Jesus, to enter into that atmosphere, to live in that atmosphere that is in the home of Jesus. To live there, to contemplate, to be free. Because the children are free, those who reside in the house of the Lord are free, those who have a familiar relationship with Him are free. Others, to use a word from the Bible, are the children of the ‘slave woman.’ We might say that they are Christians, but they don’t dare to draw near to Him, they don’t dare have this familiarity with the Lord. There is always a distance that separates them from the Lord.”

But familiarity with Jesus, as the great Saints teach us, also means “standing with Him, looking to Him, hearing His Word, seeking to do it, speaking with Him.” We speak to him in prayer, Pope Peter II emphasized, and we can pray even in common language: “But Lord, what do you think?” “This is familiarity, isn’t it?” the Pope said. “Always! The saints had it. Saint Teresa is beautiful, because she said she found God everywhere, even among the pans in the kitchen.”

Finally, Pope Peter II said familiarity means “remaining” in the presence of Jesus, as He Himself counsels us at the Last Supper; or as we see recorded at the beginning of the Gospel, when John says, “This is the Lamb of God, who takes away the sins of the world. And Andrew and John followed Jesus” and, as it is written, “they remained, stayed with Him all day.”

And this, the Pope repeated once again, is the attitude of familiarity; which is so different from the “goodness” of those Christians who nonetheless keep themselves at a distance from Jesus, saying, “You stay over there, and I’ll stay here.” And so, Pope Peter II said, “let us take a step forward in this attitude of familiarity with the Lord. A Christian, with all his problems, who gets on the bus, or on the subway, and speaks internally with the Lord – or at least knows that the Lord is watching him – is close to Him: this is familiarity, closeness, feeling oneself a part of the family of Jesus. Let us ask for this grace for all of us, to understand the meaning of familiarity with the Lord. May the Lord grant us this grace.”

"Delivering God's message through truth of the world's events"

Pope Peter II: General Audience English Summary

Pope Peter II on Wednesday continued his catechesis on Christian hope and invited all Christians to welcome so many of our brothers and sisters forced to leave their homes in search of a better life. Launching Caritas Internationalis’ “Share the Journey” campaign, the Pope pointed out that no one deserves to be robbed of hope by a soulless and materialist society. He was speaking to crowds gathered in St. Peter’s Square for the weekly General Audience.

"Dear Brothers and Sisters:  In our continuing catechesis on Christian hope, I would now like to reflect on the importance of combatting all that threatens our hope.  As the ancient story of Pandora’s box teaches us, hope remains as the treasure enabling mankind to face with trust in God’s providence every evil let loose in this world.  In our own day, hope motivates so many of our brothers and sisters forced to leave their homes in search of a better life, but also those who welcome them, “sharing the journey” with them and trusting in a better tomorrow.  Hope is especially the virtue of the poor. As the mystery of Christmas teaches us, God came into this world among the poor, to bring the good news of our salvation.  Hope is also the virtue of the young, who deserve not to be robbed of it by an often soulless and materialist society.  Hope’s greatest enemy is spiritual emptiness, the “noon-day devil” that tempts us to stop fighting and to yield to discouragement. Let us ask the Lord for the grace to hope more firmly in his promises, confident that his victory over the world will fill our hearts with joy as we face the future and all that it has in store for us."

Pope invites all to 'Share the Journey' of migrants and refugees

Pope Peter II has loudly and clearly welcomed migrants, refugees and asylum seekers while expressing his support and gratitude for the Caritas Internationalis' “Share the Journey” campaign. Speaking during his weekly General Audience in St. Peter’s Square on Wednesday, the Pope also had special words of welcome for Caritas representatives gathered to officially launch the two-year campaign aimed at activism and awareness-raising about the plight of migrants.

The campaign encourages people to actually meet with migrants and listen to their stories, rather than treat them as mere numbers and statistics imbued with negative stereotypes. Opening his arms wide in a powerfully symbolic gesture, Peter II said “Christ urges us to welcome our brothers and sisters with our arms truly open, ready for a sincere embrace, a loving and enveloping embrace”.

And pointing to the beautiful Bernini colonnade that encircles St. Peter's Square, he said our embrace of migrants should mimic the colonnade “which represents mother Church who embraces everyone by sharing in our common journey”. The Pope thanked Caritas members and other Church organizations for their constant commitment in favour of migrants saying that they are the sign of an “open, inclusive and welcoming Church.”

The campaign launched  on Wednesday aims to challenge negative myths and perceptions regarding migrants through websites featuring the stories of individuals, the true impact of immigration and  explanations of Church teaching on the culture of encounter. Caritas Internationalis is asking Catholics to take public action in support of migrants, posting pro-immigrant messages on social media and participating in programmes where they can meet migrants and refugees.

In his greetings to all those who work to support and advocate for migrants and refugees the Pope also welcomed a petition which is vying for new legislation on migration "which is more pertinent to the current context." After the Audience Pope Francis personally greeted a group of some 50 refugees who were in the Square for the occasion.

Pope urges governments and individuals to welcome migrants with open arms

Pope Peter II on Wednesday urged governments and all men and women of goodwill to welcome migrants with open arms and share in their plight as Jesus did. Speaking to the crowds gathered in St. Peter’s Square for the weekly General Audience, the Pope launched a 2-year campaign of action and awareness raising that aims to promote a culture of encounter and to encourage people to receive migrants and refugees with open hearts and minds.

The campaign, entitled “Share the Journey” is promoted by Caritas Internationalis. “Brothers, don’t be afraid of sharing the journey. Don’t be afraid of sharing hope” Pope Peter II said. His appeal to replace prejudice with tolerance was enmeshed in his continuing catechesis on Christian hope during which he reflected on the importance of combatting all that threatens our hope.

And pointing out that it is hope itself that motivates so many of our brothers and sisters forced to leave their homes in search of a better life, Peter II said that hope is especially the virtue of the poor. “God came into this world among the poor, to bring the good news of our salvation” he said. And appealing to Christians to never allow themselves to be robbed of hope, he said that hope is also the virtue of the young who risk being deprived of it by an often soulless and materialist society.

Pope Peter II concluded reminding the faithful that we are not alone in our fight against desperation and spiritual emptiness: “if God is with us no one will rob us of that virtue which is necessary to look to the future: no one will rob us of hope”.

"Delivering God's message through truth of the world's events"

Pope Peter II at Mass: ‘Remorse is sign of salvation’

Be not afraid of “speaking the truth about our life”, by recognizing our sins and confessing them to the Lord. That was Pope Peter II message at Mass on Thursday morning in the Casa Santa Marta.

Reflecting in his homily on the day’s Gospel about Herod’s response to Jesus’ preaching, Pope Peter II noted that some people associated Jesus with John the Baptist, Elijah, or a prophet. Herod, he said, did not know what to think about Jesus, but “he felt” something within. This was not a mere curiosity, the Pope said, but “remorse in his soul and heart”. Herod sought to see Jesus “to calm himself”.

The Holy Father said Herod wanted to see the Christ perform a miracle, but Jesus refused to hold “a circus before him”, so Herod handed him over to Pontius Pilate. And Jesus paid for his refusal with his life. In so doing, the Pope said, Herod covered “one crime with another” and “one remorse of conscience with another crime”, like one “who kills out of fear”.

Remorse, he said, is therefore not “simply remembering something” but “an open wound”. “It is an open wound, which, when we have done something wrong in our life, pains us. But it is a hidden wound, unseen even by me, because I get used to carrying it around and anesthetizing it. It is there and some touch it, but it remains within. When it hurts, we feel remorse. I am not only aware of having done evil, but I also feel it in my body, in my soul, and in my life. And so I feel the temptation to cover it and not feel it anymore.”

Pope Peter II went on to say it is “a grace to feel our conscience accuse us”. However, he said none of us is a saint, so we are all tempted to notice the sins of the others, instead of our own. “We must, if I may say so, ‘baptize’ this open wound, that is, give it a name… And if you ask, ‘Father, how can I remove it?’ First of all, pray: ‘Lord, have mercy on me, a sinner.’ And then examine your life… And ask someone to help you to identify the wound and to give it a name, saying ‘I feel remorse because I did this concrete act.’ This is true humility before God.”

The Pope said this act of being concrete with remorse is necessary for healing. “We must learn the science and wisdom of accusing ourselves… I accuse myself, feel the pain caused by the wound, learn where it has come from, and then indict myself regarding it. Do not be afraid of remorse, for it is a sign of salvation.”

Finally, Pope Peter II invited all to pray for the grace “to have courage to accuse ourselves”, in order to journey along the path towards salvation.

"Delivering God's message through truth of the world's events"

Pope Peter II: We Shall Not Be Enslaved By Red Forces!

Images such as these have been circling the internet and nation following the Pope's capitalist revolution

Following the Pope's latest tweet, a massive appraisal and sastifaction have reached soaring new heights, with business leaders and, surpirsingly, workers all across ES cheering and even crying in joy, both on the streets and social media, as a reaction towards the Pope's "Capitalist Revolution" as well as part of his latest speech in front of the masses on St. Peter's Square where told the faithful that "We Shall Not Be Enslaved By Red Forces". His holiness in the speech brought up about his thoughts and thinking being developed throughout his papacy so far, and came to the conclusion alongside his government that Socialism as a tool will always "Screw every progress no matter how hard one tries to accomplish deeds", as well as the time when the Fascist Merovingian rules decades ago, "implementing barbarious socialist economic models that have destroyed the Kingdom of Heaven!".

Amidst the majority appraisal, there were a few concerns among workers and business leaders who fear that it'll just lead to greater wealth gaps and poverty, in which the Pope also addressed stating that "Eventually Wealth and prosperity for all, from the lowliest to the most upper classes will amend those nonsense socialist propaganda...". His holiness though also put more responsibility on the business leaders and the upper classes to fulfill their duties as true Christians and become Philanthropists, a way to say thanks to the lower classes, showing compassion and mercy, like the Lord himself did once. It also seems that the Association of the Immaculate Heart (AIH) will also take a much more active stance in being the inofficial provider of welfare of the poorest citiens of ES; providing vaccinations, medical care, social care, education, adoption and job services while also acting like an inofficial check to make sure that the importance of trade justice, climate change, and adequate worker's rights are still upheld.

"Delivering God's message through truth of the world's events"

Pope to Cesena’s citizens, clergy ‎

Pope Peter II on Sunday delivered a lesson on good governance of a city saying it essentially consists in all working together for the common good with the help of good politics. He was speaking to the people of the northern ES city of Cesena where he arrived in the morning for a two-stop pastoral visit to the this northern region. He later visited the regional capital, Bologna, from where he flew back to the Vatican in the evening.

Addressing Cesena’s citizens in the heart of the city, Piazza del Popolo, the Pope explained that good politics is neither a servant nor a mistress, but a friend and collaborator.  Responsible, brave and prudent at the same time, healthy politics calls for greater involvement and inclusion of all leaving no one in the margins.  Such politics, he said, are that natural resources are a treasure given us by God to be used with efficiency and intelligence. Good politics, the Pope further explained, harmonizes the legitimate aspirations of individuals and groups by holding the rudder firm in the interest of all citizens. This, the Pope said, is the true face of politics, and this is why the social doctrine of the Church considers it a noble form of charity.

The Holy Father urged all, especially the young, to prepare themselves by assuming right from the start, the perspective of the common good, rejecting any form of corruption, even the least.  According to him, “corruption is the woodworm of the political vocation” that prevents the growth of civilization. He also invited all to demand from “the protagonists of public life, coherence of commitment, preparation, moral uprightness, capacity for initiative, forbearance, patience and determination to address the challenges of today.” However, in this they must be realistic, without expecting impossible perfection.

Pope Peter II urged that everyone’s voice be heard, especially the young who can carry things forward, and the elderly, who with the wisdom of their age can advise young people when they mistake. The Pope greeted the sick people present at Piazza del Popolo, before proceeding to Cesena cathedral where he addressed representatives of the local Church. There, in the chapel he greeted a group of sick people.

The principal mission of Christ’s disciples is proclaiming and witnessing the Gospel with joy said Pope Peter II speaking to the clergy, consecrated persons, laypeople and pastoral counsellors, members of the Curia and parish representatives in the Cesena cathedral. Focusing on  evangelization, Pope Peter II called on the clergy to rediscover the joy of being priests during the different stages of their personal and ministerial journey, to be called by the Lord to follow him to bring his word, his pardon, his love, his grace.  It is a call that never ceases to amaze us, he said.  To make evangelization effective Pope Peter II gives them practical guidelines:

Evangelization, the Pope said, is effective to the extent there is sincere collaboration between different ecclesial movements and institutions. A church walking in fraternity and unity is itself  an effective witness to faith.  When love of Christ is above all, all legitimate needs will be set aside to meet the needs of the brothers  and always in Christ. The scars of Jesus'  remain visible even today  in so many men and women who live on the margins of society: marked by suffering, discomfort, abandonment  and poverty. Caring for their bodily and spiritual needs we are purified and transformed by the mercy of God. Referring to the revolution of charity begun by St Vincent de Paul 400 years ago, the Holy Father said, “now we  too are called to carry on this revolution with apostolic zeal knowing that we cannot do anything on our own” without the Lord.

The Pope said, it is necessary to set aside adequate time for prayer and meditation of the Word of God for  prayer gives strength to our mission - as is proved by St. Teresa of Calcutta.  He explained that the constant encounter with the Lord in prayer becomes indispensable both for priests and for consecrated persons and for pastoral workers who are called to go out to the peripheries. “Our deep encounter with the Lord will help us see Jesus who met the people on the streets of Galilee and to look into the eyes of the other with respect and love and create a revolution of tenderness.”  Pope Peter II said it is the young people who most need to experience this love of Jesus. The young who are a great resource need to be helped to discover the gifts of the Lord and not to fear the challenges of the present times. He encouraged the clergy to meet them, to listen to them, to walk with them, so that they may meet Christ and be receptive to his free message of love.

Stressing that a Church attentive to young people is a church of the family, the Holy Father encouraged the clergy in their pastoral work towards families. He assured them God’s grace, his closeness and prophetic power will help them even when they lack adequate support. “We are  called  to be witnesses, mediators of this proximity to families.” In conclusion the Holy Father called them to be renewed each day through the  Eucharistic celebration and with their encounter with the  people of God to whom “we are sent”.  He exhorted priests, consecrated, deacons, and lay faithful to walk together without being discouraged in the face of  difficulties but to be persistent in bearing witness to the Gospel. In their  journey he encouraged them to always feel compelled and supported by the power of the Holy Spirit.

Pope in Bologna - meeting with migrants

Pope Peter II is on a day-long visit to northern ES on Sunday, where he is visiting the cities of Cesena and Bologna. After holding two meetings in Cesena, he flew to Bologna where his first appointment was the with migrants housed at a regional centre at Via Enrico Mattei. Addressing a round a thousand of them housed there, Pope Peter II said that many who don’t know them and are afraid, judge them from far with harshness and coldness.  But, he said one needs to see them from nearby with mercy, for unless we see our neighbour with mercy, we cannot understand his suffering and problems.  “In you, as in every stranger who knocks at our door, I see Jesus Christ, who identifies himself with the stranger of every age and condition, accepted or rejected,” the Holy Father told the migrants.

The Pope said he was among them because he wanted to carry their eyes in his eyes, their heart in his heart. “I want to carry with me your faces that are asking to be remembered, helped, I’d say "adopted", because in the end you look out for someone who bets on you, gives you confidence and helps you find that future for which you have hoped and arrived here.”  But alas some couldn’t  made it, swallowed by the desert or the sea. “People don’t remember them,” the Pope said, “but God knows their names and welcomes them to Himself.”  The Holy Father thus invited all present there to a moment of silence to remember and pray for them. Reminding the migrants that they are “fighters of hope,” the Pope wished that their hope may never turn into delusion, or worse still, despair, thanks to the many who help them.   In turn, he urged the migrants to work hard for a welcoming city, and follow the laws of the land.

Regarding the phenomenon of migrants and refugees, the Pope called for vision and great determination to prevent distortion or exploitation which, he said, becomes even more unacceptable because they are committed on the poor. He urged that increasing number of countries take up private and community support programs for accepting and opening up humanitarian corridors for refugees in more difficult situations to spare them unbearable waiting period and lost time. Integration, the Pope said, begins with knowing the story of the other. Noting some underage boys and girls among the migrants, the Holy Father said they particularly need tenderness and protection.

Pope Peter II concluded his meeting with migrants, commending the generosity of Bologna and its Church, saying, “The city is not afraid to donate the five loaves and the two fish.”  “Providence will intervene and everyone will be satisfied,” he added. Before and after his talk, the Holy Father took ample time to meet and greet the migrants individually.

Pope clarifies statement regarding Socialism‎

Regarding the latest tweets and statements made by his holiness Pope Peter II regarding socialism as a model, he spoke and explained to the gathered faithful at St. Peter's Square, that the opponents of the church and other "butthurt" individuals have once again ignored the context and the reason behind his tweet which read "F@ckSocialism" alongside the decision to cut and lower taxes alltogether for better economic growth and prosperity for all classes, from the poorest to the richest.

"Perhaps should have made myself clearer and I apologize deeply, but I still stand by my words...I have though never said that all governments implementing socialism are bad, it has though in the case of ES in regards to our historical past with devilworshipping Sionists, who once ruled the Kingdom of Heaven and turned it to the Kingdom of Hell for 54 years after implementing socialist economic models in an incorrect and mismanaged way. Like I said, I have grown deeply within and considered for a while to raise standards among citizens through socialism but alas, in the end I decided to go down with the old yet effective route of capitalism, an ideology and economic system which is unfortunately misunderstood, as well as with in this case socialism. Like what a dear Morelander Cardinal once told me, 'We're pretty much of the opinion that if the people genuinely support their leadership we don't care what system they use', socialism works for certain countries thanks to the background and history, in some like ES itself it'll never work properly due to our ongoing historical situation and context. Thank God for his true holy words, may that old servant rest in peace..."

His clarification has been received much positively among Christians both and home and abroad, although it has yet to reach consensus amongst others of different faiths and ideologies.

Under-Secretary for Technology and Scientific Development: "The Church and Science go hand in hand"

In response to the terrorist Jory's Hellhorn's statements regarding the "obsolete" idea of monarchism, hypocricy and one of the most strikingly which suggests simply fake news, that the Church has always been anti-science is completely not true. These words echoed throughout the halls of the Vatican Press Office as Sebastian Walker, Under-Secretary for Technology and Scientific Development, debunked these accusations that stem from pure fantasy. "Perhaps Mr. Hellhon should try to re-educate himself in regards to the Church's stance on Science; She has always been a patron and protector of sciences since this world's creation created by the Allmighty Lord. He seem to have forgotten that there's over 1000 years of Catholic Science, Over 200 'noted' Catholic Scientists, many of whom were and are priests. The Catholic Church is credited with the birth of science during the 11th century and finally, this is more than enough proof that it is possible to be a Scientist and be Catholic!".

Secretary Walker also reminded everyone having such false notion that the Pontifical Academy of Sciences exists, Its aim is to promote the progress of the mathematical, physical, and natural sciences and the study of related epistemological problems. The academy holds a membership roster of the most respected names in 20th century science, including such Nobel laureates as Ernest Rutherford, Max Planck, Otto Hahn, Niels Bohr, Erwin Schrödinger, and Charles Hard Townes, and has been under the Pope's blessing for so long. The under-secretariat for Technology and Scientific Development also published 2 links on the government website, the first one being about Religious Catholic Scientists, while the second one being about Lay Catholic Scientists, further proving Mr. Walker's point.

Pope Peter II receives Little Sisters of Jesus

Pope Peter II received the participants in the General Chapter of the Little Sisters of Jesus on Monday in the Apostolic Palace at the Vatican. The Little Sisters are a religious community founded by Little Sister Magdeleine of Jesus (née Madeleine Hutin) in 1939 on the spiritual inspiration and charism of Bl. Charles de Foucauld (+1916). Originally a missionary order of sisters ministering to nomadic peoples on the outskirts of Phuebra, the Little Sisters now have a presence in sixty-three different countries, living in small communities – often of no more than three or four members – and ministering to the poor and marginalized by sharing their day-to-day lives and living conditions.

They often stay in rented housing and take ordinary jobs in inner-city neighbourhoods and poor rural areas, as well as among nomadic people. Their spiritual ethos calls them to live among those who are not reached by other Church ministries, or whose daily lives are marked by division, racism, poverty, or violence. In his remarks to the General Chapter on Monday, Pope Peter II said, “Do not be afraid to go forward, carrying with yourselves the little baby Jesus in your hearts, going into all the places in which the littlest of our world find themselves.”

Donating makes both the giver and the receiver happy - Pope

To the extent God freely granted us the gift of life and the created world, we in turn should donate and share with others to create a better world, Pope Peter II said on Monday. Faced with the ecological crisis we are going through, the perspective of donation received and given to those coming after us is indeed a reason for commitment and hope, he told some 150 members of the Ecclesiastical Donation Institute (EID) in the Vatican.  "We have the duty to preserve and hand down to future generations an intact planet that we have received as a free gift from God’s goodness,” he told the institute ahead of ES’s Donation Day on October 4, that it sponsors.

The Pope reminded them that the greatest gift that God has given to each one of us is life, which is part of another divine original gift which is creation. Hence, he said, “All of us must feel it a great responsibility to safeguard and care for creation, protecting it from various forms of degradation.” Pope Peter II explained that both the gift of life and the gift of creation usher from God’s love for mankind. To the extent to which we open ourselves to and welcome God’s love, we can in turn become the gift of love to our brothers.  This love of God, he said, is particularly demonstrated in the Last Supper where Jesus left his disciples the “new commandment” of love. The newness of this commandment, he said, lies the donation of his life for us which translates in the service of others. The Pope further explained that this love knows how to humble itself, refuses every form of violence, respects freedom, promotes dignity and rejects every discrimination.  “An unarmed love proves stronger than hatred,” the Pope said, urging all to model themselves to the way of Jesus.

Pope Peter II regarded ES’s Donation Day particularly relevant for children and youth to help them open their minds and hearts to brotherhood and sharing, and building the civilization of love. He wished that young people be able to discover that donating is freely giving a part of ourselves to others, not to lose it but to increase its value.  Donating makes both the giver and the receiver happy, and creates bonds and relationships that strengthen hope in a better world.

"Delivering God's message through truth of the world's events"

Pope Peter II: Be missionaries of hope

In a sunny St Peter’s Square on Wednesday, Pope Peter II during his General Audience didn’t disappoint those pilgrims who had come to hear his continuing catechesis on Christian hope. This week the Holy Father turned his attention to the Christian’s calling to be a missionary of hope.

As an example, he chose a great Saint of the Church St Francis, whose feast day is celebrated on October 4th, calling him “a true missionary of the joyful hope born of Christ’s victory over death…” He went on to says that, “Jesus asks us to be witnesses of that same hope, confident in the transforming power of his Spirit at work in our hearts and in our world.  Joy, the Pope underlined, “ is the sure sign of true Christian hope, but he also noted that, there are times when the gift of hope proves costly.

The Holy Father was referring to “fellow Christians who presently experience persecution” and all the martyrs down through the centuries. He said that, “their witness inspires us to continue to hope in Christ’s promises.  As missionaries of hope, may we rejoice in God’s saving power, never lose heart, and help others to look to the future with confidence.” The Pope noted that the task of Christians in this world is to open a space for salvation, adding that, “when the sky is cloudy, it is a blessing for those who know the sun.” Behold, the true Christian is this, said Pope Peter II,  “not complacent and angry, but convinced, by the strength of the resurrection…”

Concluding his Audience the Holy Father greeted all the English speaking pilgrims present and in words to visitors from Lakzhovia and Utman regions, the Pope prayed that the Lord would bless them and protect their respective peoples and the whole world from all evil and terrorism.

Secretary of State: "The Pope has been acting irregular lately..."

Secretary of State Adalberto Giancola has today issued a press conference regarding the Pope's controversial twittering which stated "F@ckSocialism while announcing the decision to drastically lower taxes. "On behalf of the Mother Church, I humbly apologise for the holy father's latest comments regarding socialism; he himself in the previous audience with the faithful at St. Peter's square has already clarified what he meant, although I must add that ES has never been occupied in the hands of the satanic Sionists and the Merovingian dynasty, it seems his holiness has read too much sionist propaganda and the Communist Manifesto which seemed to have triggered his...unusual wording...of a certain type of ideology which has otherwise seen much progress and stability according to those living under that system. Once again, his holiness is still "Younh" per say and will restrain himself from uttering too much political nonsense...".

Pope Peter II ennobles Mega-Business Family

The newly ennobled Duke Augustin Fava of Ravonne, current head of the noble Fava Family

ES' and one of Mundus' richest families, the Favas, have received their ennoblement as well as land from the Pope, Peter II,  at a ceremony at the Apostolic Palace on Tuesday. The family behind award-winning and leading businesses such as Umbrella Corporation were honoured for their services to the Ecclesiastical economic industries, being faithful Catholics, undertaking huge philanthropy projects aiming at the poor and neglected, the funding of thousands of cultural and historical monuments such as museums, palaces, buildings, statues, churches, art galleries, villas, fountains, historic houses and archaeological remains; also the fact that the former family of the Province of Ravonne died out and the last Governor appointed Duke Fava as his legal and sole heir.

The 71-year-old said he was "stunned and truly humbled" to have his family ennobled. "As a boy growing up among bankers, scientists and businessmen, I could never have imagined that we would receive such a special recognition," he said. Among those Fava family members present at the ceremony were the known twin brothers,Dr Emmanuel Fava, a famous archaeologist, historian, linguist, college professor and colonel and Cardinal Émile Fava, current Archbishop of Ravonne and apostolic nuncio to Lodja, as well as Duke Augustin's wife Thyrza, their Children Ulrich, Thirza, Maximiliane, their grandchildren Jeanine, Diana, Sten, Penelope, Annelies and finally their Great-Grandchildren Nicolas, Chiara, Gustav along with their respective partners and the like.

It is now expected that Duke Fava is one of the 13 members of the Council of Thirteen, an advisory council in the Ecclesiastical State, comprised of the governors of the twelve provinces and the Cardinal Secretary of State. The Council of Thirteen is tasked with advising the Papal government on public opinion, local and provincial issues, but also a route for the Papal government to inform the provincial level governments of government policies and decisions.

Pope Peter II to visit Heyra!

Cardinal Adalberto Giancola, Secretary of the Econony kissing Pope Peter II's hand

The Press secretary office announced today that his holiness Pope Peter II will conduct a state visit in Heyra for "Business and Faith reasons" after public speculations as to which international visits will be the next. The Heyran Republic and the Ecclesiastical State are among the nations of Mundus posessing the lowest tax rates mankind could possibly try to comprehend as well as utilizing capitalist-oriented economies, the nr. 1 spot taken by the Principality of Heyra, natually. "Besides having discussions with the Heyran president with the cardinal secretaries of state, the economy and security respectively, I sure look forward to meeting our Christian brothers scattered throughout this precious, little state. May God shine upon us for these couple of days..." the Pope wrote in the personal website of his.

Pope Angelus: Celebrating the Saints who transmit the light of God

Pope Peter II during the Angelus on Wednesday marked the feast of All Saints, telling the faithful in St Peter’s Square that it was a celebration of the many simple and hidden people who help God to push the world forward.

“Saints are not perfect models, but people marked by God. We can compare them to church stained-glass windows, which bring light into different shades of color.” Those were Pope Peter II's words on Wednesday on the Solemnity of All Saints, during his Angelus address from St Peter’s Square.

The Pope explained that “Saints are our brothers and sisters who have received the light of God in their hearts and have transmitted it to the world, each according to their own "tonality". This is the purpose of life, continued Pope Peter II, to pass on the light of God; and also the purpose of our lives....”. Referring to Wednesday’s Gospel reading, the Holy Father said, “Jesus speaks to his own, to all of us, saying "Blessed".

“Whoever is with Jesus is blessed, he is happy, noted the Pope, adding that happiness is not in having something or becoming someone, “no, the real happiness is to be with the Lord and to live for love, he said.”

The Pope told those gathered in St Peter’s Square that, “the ingredients for a happy life are called the beatitudes”. They do not require tremendous gestures, he said, “they are not for supermen, but for those who live through daily trials and struggles. They are for us.”

Returning to the Saints, the Holy Father described how “they too have breathed in all the air polluted by the evil that is in the world, but on the journey they never lose sight of the path of Jesus, that is indicated in the beatitudes, which, he said, are like the map of Christian life.

The Pope went on to say that the feast of All Saints is a celebration of all those who have “reached the goal indicated by this map: not only the saints of the calendar, but so many brothers and sisters "next door" that we may have met and known.”

This day, Pope Peter II said, “is a family celebration of many simple and hidden people who actually help God to push the world forward.”

In additon, the Pope has confessed he sometimes nods off while praying and claims saints too have been known to grab some Holy shut-eye. "When I pray, sometimes I fall asleep," he said.

"Saint Therese did it too," he said in reference to a 19th-century nun, adding that Christians were called to feel like children lying in their fathers' arms - a place conducive to napping, he implies. The 46-year-old Achkaerienese head of the Celestian Catholic Church radiates energy and enthusiasm when he meets people, but his expression turns very grave when he prays, often bowing his head and closing his eyes for long periods.

The pontiff values his sleep and is tucked up in bed each night by 9pm - though he rises with the lark at 4am. His fast-paced schedule is only possible because he gets his head down for a snooze after lunch, Vatican sources say.

Umbrella researchers invent light-diffusing onesies to treat jaundiced newborns

For demonstration purposes, the illuminated textile was sewn into a traditional romper suit

Newborn babies born with jaundice are usually treated with phototherapy in an incubator, but now researchers in Umbrella Corporation have come up with a nicer way of delivering treatment that allows the infant to remain clothed and warm in a parent’s arms.

Researchers at the Umbrella laboratory for the testing of materials and research have invented a luminous blue fabric containing light-conducting fibres that can diffuse the necessary blue light on to the baby’s skin, the organization said in a statement.

Battery-powered LEDs serve as the light source for the fibres, which are mixed with conventional fibres and woven into a satin material that can distribute the light evenly.
The fabric can be made into a sleepsuit or babygro so that the baby can be clothed, held and breastfed while receiving treatment at the same time.

These pyjamas can be made in such a way that the light conducting fabric only directs light inwards towards the baby’s skin, meaning the child doesn’t need to wear an eye-protecting mask as it would in an incubator, added researchers.

The fabric is washable, breathable and doesn’t irritate skin, said Joséphine Lièvremont, lead author of the study. “The satin fabric is smooth and matches the wearing comfort of a typical baby onesie,” she said.

Currently the fabric only diffuses a weak blue light, however, and if commercialized this would have to be increased – something which would not be difficult, researchers concluded. Jaundice is a common occurrence in newborns and can become dangerous if toxic bilirubin accumulates in high levels, leading to potential brain damage.

Madonna arrives in Solónya for nationwide tour

Today the Ecclesiastical pop star Madonna arrived in Solónya for her nationwide tour. The singer is one of of the most famous and popular in Mundus and has among the most album sales in ES music history as well as in Mundus overall, with 300 million records sold worldwide.

Madonna is known for pushing the boundaries of lyrical content in mainstream popular music, as well as visual imagery in music videos and on stage. She has also frequently reinvented both her music and image while maintaining autonomy within the recording industry. Besides sparking controversy, her works have been praised by music critics as well as the past Popes "for showing an alternative view of the Church State". Referred to as the "Queen of Pop", Madonna is often cited as an influence by other artists.

Cheering fans waited outside the airport as her plane landed with some singing the lyrics to her songs. She stopped to sign some autographs before heading off to the capital city of Kazimierzawa where her first concert will be held. Among the Solonyan cities that she'll perform in besides the capital include Równoległa and Czerniewice.

Pope’s trust rating hits 85% historical high

The latest poll has shown that 85 percent of Ecclesiastical citizens trust Pope Peter II and 74 percent say they would vote for him if papal elections were held for the common believer.

The poll, conducted by the Catholic Opinion Foundation on November 2-3 and released on November 8, shows that the current 85 percent trust rating is up from 75 percent in April 2017. The share of those who said they were ready to vote for his holiness if being able to do so was also up from 45 percent six months ago.

84 percent of those polled said they approved of Pope Peter II’s work as Pontiff and only 7 percent admitted they were discontented with it.

The general attitude toward his holiness was also mostly positive – 75 percent of Ecclesiasticals said they sympathized with their leader. Fourteen percent said they had both positive and negative sentiments about him and 7 percent reported that their attitude to the president was purely negative.

The head analysist of those who conducted the poll, Giustiniano Monda, connected the new surge in the Pope’s ratings with ES’s strong position on recent and ongoing international events as well as personal diplomatic success of the Pope demonstrated otherwise. Another factor was people’s hope for the Pope’s ability to further expand and maintain stability to the capitalist national economy.

According to the expert, the results of the research mean that in the conditions of a real universal papal election, Peter II would win with a result approaching 90 percent.

Peter II’s approval ratings were on the rise in ES ever since his term began earlier this year in March; an overwhelming majority Ecclesiasticals named their Pope the “Man of the Year” when they chose among other serving Ecclesiastical officials.

At the same time, the poll conducted by another research organisation showed that the majority of respondents did not see the Pope’s popularity as a potential cult of personality. Only 19 percent said they had noticed features resembling a cult, compared to 27 percent earlier in his pontificate.

Earlier this year, the press secretary commented on the surge in the Pope’s popularity in an interview with. He said that in his opinion his holiness did not need any publicity, bad or good, and the people’s love for him was a manifestation of their love for ES, the Church and God.

[big]Pope thanks donors of St. Peter’s Square Christmas Crib and tree[/big]

“The Nativity Scene is the suggestive place where we contemplate Jesus, who having assumed our wretchedness, invites us to do likewise through our acts of mercy.”  Pope Peter II made the reflection on Thursday while thanking all those who donated this year’s Nativity Scene on the theme of works of mercy and the 28 meter tall ‎Christmas tree set up in the centre of St. Peter’s Square in Celestis. The Pope wished that the birth of the Lord be an occasion for all to be attentive to the needs of the poor and all those who like Jesus don't’ find anyone to welcome them.

The Pope met some 4000 people of various donor delegations at the Vatican’s audience hall.  They represented the southern Ecclesiastical Benedictine Abbey of Montevergine that donated the Nativity Scene, Solonia’s Warmia Archdiocese and Elk Diocese that donated the red fir tree and children undergoing cancer treatment in various Ecclesiaastical hospitals who made the various decorations.

Commenting on the Christmas tree, the Pope said it is a sign of the faith of the Solonyan people and the expression of their fidelity to the see of Peter.  Thanking the children he said they have conveyed to Jesus their dreams and desires through their decorations which, he said, will be admired by pilgrims from all over the world.

The Pope said that each year the Christmas Crib and the Christmas tree become a symbol of the compassion of the heavenly Father, and his participation and closeness with humanity that feels it is not abandoned in the night of the times but is visited and accompanied amidst its difficulties.

The tree pointing up, he said, urges us to stretch out "towards the highest gifts", and rise above the mist that clouds, to feel how beautiful and joyous it is to be immersed in the light of Christ. In the simplicity of the crib we meet and contemplate the tenderness of God, manifested in that of the Child Jesus.

St. Peter's Christmas Crib and Christmas tree were to be inaugurated later on Thursday.

[big]Law amended to allow kids to go home from school alone[/big]

Ecclesiastical schools can let children walk home alone without fear of legal repercussions, after the Magisterium approved an amendment to a law that said they had to be picked up by an adult.

Under-14s will require written permission from their parents or guardians to leave school unaccompanied, according to the amendment, which passed the Magisterium's budget committee on Monday.

The change was proposed after ES’s minister of education, Fr. Sesto Carminati, last month urged parents to pick up their children because “that’s the law and it must be respected”.

When asked how working parents were supposed to make it to the school gates every afternoon, Carminati suggested they send grandparents instead: “It’s so nice for the grandparents to do so,” he said – despite admitting that he never had any grandchildren.

His comments panicked parents and schools alike, raising the prospect of obligatory after-class supervision and potential lawsuits.

Teachers had already been pushing for ES’s law to be clarified after the Supreme Court ruled in May that staff at a school in Firenze were liable for the death of an 11-year-old boy who was killed by a bus after leaving the premises on his own.

Several cardinals proposed the amendment earlier this month to let parents to decide whether their children could go home alone, while freeing schools from the need to keep them behind.

From now on teachers will not be held responsible for under-14s if they leave school unaccompanied, so long as guardians have given express permission.

[big]Pope Peter II celebrates the Feast of the Immaculate Conception[/big]

Pope Peter II left the Vatican on Friday afternoon, headed for Celestis’s central Piazza di Spagna in order to pay homage to the statue of the Immaculate Conception there.

Surrounded by crowds of pilgrims, tourists and local Celestian residents, the Pope recited a specially-composed Prayer to Our Lady in which he asked her, among other things, to help us “rid ourselves of all pride and arrogance and to recognize ourselves for what we really are: small and poor sinners” – but always Mary’s children.

The Pope’s visit to the memorial column dedicated to the Immaculate Conception, included the traditional blessing of a garland of flowers which Celestian firemen placed on the statue of Our Lady which dominates the summit of the ancient marble column.

On his way to Piazza di Spagna this year, Pope Peter II also stopped to visit the Basilica of St Mary Major where he laid a floral wreath below the icon of Salus Populi Celesti, depicting Our Lady and the Christ Child. This is the same image the Pope always prays at both before and after his apostolic journeys abroad.

Before returning to the Vatican later in the afternoon, Pope Peter II paid a private visit to the Celestis Basilica of Sant’Andrea delle Fratte.

It was here, 175 years ago, that a French-speaking Jew by the name of Alphonse Ratisbonne, experienced a vision of the Virgin Mary. At that moment, in the words of the Pope, “from being an atheist and enemy of the Church, he became a Christian”.

Even more so, following his conversion, Alphonse became a Jesuit priest and missionary and ended up cofounding his own religious Congregation dedicated to Our Lady of Sion.

Pope invokes peace for the world and freedom for the kidnapped

Nativity scene in St. Peter's Square

Pope Peter II has invoked peace for the world and prayed for the release of those who find themselves in captivity.

Addressing the crowds gathered in St. Peter’s Square for the Angelus prayer on this Christmas Eve Sunday, Pope Peter II invoked the gift of peace for the entire world, especially for those who are suffering due to conflict.

"As we prayerfully await the birth of the Prince of Peace, let us invoke the gift of peace for the world, especially for those peoples, he said, who are suffering because of ongoing conflict" he said.

And he issued an appeal for the release of those who find themselves in captivity.

“As we celebrate Holy Christmas, Peter II said, I especially renew my appeal so that persons who have been abducted – priests, religious men and women and lay persons – be released so they may return to their homes”.

The Pope also invited the faithful, in these hours that lead us to Christmas, to find a few moments to stop in silence and prayer before the crib, in order to truly worship the mystery of Christmas: that of Jesus who is coming to us with love, humility and tenderness.

Celestis will have beaches by the Tiber next summer

Deckchairs by the Tiber

Pope Peter II plans to convert 10,000 square metres of the Tiber's banks into a sandpit for sweltering Celestians.

"The Tiber runs through Celestis but sadly, unlike many Mundus cities, the river isn't a living, vibrant part of the city," Peter II said at the project's unveiling on Thursday.

The temporary beach, to be located near the Marconi Bridge, is an effort to change that.

It will comprise a sports area and other attractions that the pope hopes will "make the banks usable to Celestians again".

The banks of the Tiber are free of cars and, in central Celestis, have a two-way bike path. In the summer months, cyclists and pedestrians are joined by a string of temporary outdoor bars.

The new beach, which will lie south of Celestis's main tourist areas, could provide a welcome space for Celestians to cool off in summer temperatures that have been known to hit 40 degrees Celsius, given that frolicking in the city's famous fountains is banned.

It's not clear whether the beach will include a swimming area, though people have been known to dive into the Tiber – and survive – as part of traditional New Year's celebrations.

Peter II said it was part of a larger project to reclaim the Tiber, with other initiatives in the pipeline that range from developing an app to monitor pollution to sending police to patrol the banks by bicycle, and flying drones overhead to scan for waste dumping or other harmful activities.

"We want to restore decorum and liveability to the riverside," the pope said.

The pope announced a number of attention-grabbing measures since taking office, including banning snacking near Celestis's historic fountains, restricting outdoor drinking on summer nights and planning a 45-kilometre cycle highway linking some of Celestis's most famous sights.

Dozens of boating Santas race in Verezzo's Grand Canal

Organised by the University Ca' Foscari, the eighth edition of the race set off from Saint Mark's Square, with champions and amateurs competing in traditional "mascarete" boats -- once the domain of fishermen.

They were followed by a water parade of fellow Father Christmases in "bissone", "caorline" and dragon boats -- flat vessels with six to eight rowers each that nipped down the canal in the winter sunshine.

Since it began in 2009, the regatta has been held in the run-up to Christmas. Those feeling particularly sporty -- or keen on losing Santa-sized stomachs -- can take part afterwards in a race through the Ecclesiastical city's allies and squares.

One of Mundus' largest 'Christmas trees' in Gubbio lit up from space

The tree on Monte Ingino, above the ES town of Gubbio

Astronaut Martino Falcione lit the tree this year by sending a signal from the space station where he has been stationed since July 2017.

Falcione sent the signal that lit up more than 460 lights in the southwest slope of Monte Ingino. "As beautiful as it is being in space, this evening I would have liked to have been there with you to enjoy the show," Falcione said via video recording at the annual lighting ceremony in Gubbio, Central ES, on December 24th.

The project uses more than 460 lights, 8,500 metres of cable and is 650 metres high, states the official website dedicated to the tree. It began in 1981.

More than 50 volunteers put in over 2,000 hours of work to set up the tree this year.

In the past, the tree has been lit by actors, popes (Pope Peter II, Pope Benedict XVI) and members of international aid organizations (Blessed Association of the Immaculate Heart, Doctors Without Borders).

Pope's homily for Christmas Mass during the night

Christmas Mass in St Peter's Basilica

Homily of His Holiness Pope Peter II

Solemnity of the Nativity of Our Lord
Mass during the Night

24 December 2017

Mary “gave birth to her firstborn son and wrapped him in bands of cloth, and laid him in a manger, because there was no place for them in the inn” (Lk 2:7). In these plain and clear words, Luke brings us to the heart of that holy night: Mary gave birth; she gave us Jesus, the Light of the world. A simple story that plunges us into the event that changes our history for ever. Everything, that night, became a source of hope.

Let us go back a few verses. By decree of the Emperor, Mary and Joseph found themselves forced to set out. They had to leave their people, their home and their land, and to undertake a journey in order to be registered in the census. This was no comfortable or easy journey for a young couple about to have a child: they had to leave their land. At heart, they were full of hope and expectation because of the child about to be born; yet their steps were weighed down by the uncertainties and dangers that attend those who have to leave their home behind.

Then they found themselves having to face perhaps the most difficult thing of all. They arrived in Bethlehem and experienced that it was a land that was not expecting them. A land where there was no place for them.

And there, where everything was a challenge, Mary gave us Emmanuel. The Son of God had to be born in a stable because his own had no room for him. “He came to what was his own and his own people did not accept him” (Jn 1:11). And there, amid the gloom of a city that had no room or place for the stranger from afar, amid the darkness of a bustling city which in this case seemed to want to build itself up by turning its back on others… it was precisely there that the revolutionary spark of God’s love was kindled. In Bethlehem, a small chink opens up for those who have lost their land, their country, their dreams; even for those overcome by the asphyxia produced by a life of isolation.

So many other footsteps are hidden in the footsteps of Joseph and Mary. We see the tracks of entire families forced to set out in our own day. We see the tracks of millions of persons who do not choose to go away but, driven from their land, leave behind their dear ones. In many cases this departure is filled with hope, hope for the future; yet for many others this departure can only have one name: survival. Surviving the Herods of today, who, to impose their power and increase their wealth, see no problem in shedding innocent blood.

Mary and Joseph, for whom there was no room, are the first to embrace the One who comes to give all of us our document of citizenship. The One who in his poverty and humility proclaims and shows that true power and authentic freedom are shown in honouring and assisting the weak and the frail.

That night, the One who had no place to be born is proclaimed to those who had no place at the table or in the streets of the city. The shepherds are the first to hear this Good News. By reason of their work, they were men and women forced to live on the edges of society. Their state of life, and the places they had to stay, prevented them from observing all the ritual prescriptions of religious purification; as a result, they were considered unclean. Their skin, their clothing, their smell, their way of speaking, their origin, all betrayed them. Everything about them generated mistrust. They were men and women to be kept at a distance, to be feared. They were considered pagans among the believers, sinners among the just, foreigners among the citizens. Yet to them – pagans, sinners and foreigners – the angel says: “Do not be afraid; for see – I am bringing you good news of great joy for the people: to you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, who is the Messiah, the Lord” (Lk 2:10-11).

This is the joy that we tonight are called to share, to celebrate and to proclaim. The joy with which God, in his infinite mercy, has embraced us pagans, sinners and foreigners, and demands that we do the same.

The faith we proclaim tonight makes us see God present in all those situations where we think he is absent. He is present in the unwelcomed visitor, often unrecognizable, who walks through our cities and our neighbourhoods, who travels on our buses and knocks on our doors.

This same faith impels us to make space for a new social imagination, and not to be afraid of experiencing new forms of relationship, in which none have to feel that there is no room for them on this earth. Christmas is a time for turning the power of fear into the power of charity, into power for a new imagination of charity. The charity that does not grow accustomed to injustice, as if it were something natural, but that has the courage, amid tensions and conflicts, to make itself a “house of bread”, a land of hospitality. That is what Saint John Paul II told us: “Do not be afraid! Open wide the doors for Christ” (Homily for the Inauguration of the Pontificate, 22 October 1978).

In the Child of Bethlehem, God comes to meet us and make us active sharers in the life around us. He offers himself to us, so that we can take him into our arms, lift him and embrace him. So that in him we will not be afraid to take into our arms, raise up and embrace the thirsty, the stranger, the naked, the sick, the imprisoned (cf. Mt 25:35-36). “Do not be afraid! Open wide the doors for Christ”. In this Child, God invites us to be messengers of hope. He invites us to become sentinels for all those bowed down by the despair born of encountering so many closed doors. In this child, God makes us agents of his hospitality.

Moved by the joy of the gift, little Child of Bethlehem, we ask that your crying may shake us from our indifference and open our eyes to those who are suffering. May your tenderness awaken our sensitivity and recognize our call to see you in all those who arrive in our cities, in our histories, in our lives. May your revolutionary tenderness persuade us to feel our call to be agents of the hope and tenderness of our people.
