Federal Government to Impose Fee on all Foreign Craft Passing Through the Emerald Strait
In an attempt to bring in more revenue and potentially reduce the tax burden on citizens, Jack O’Connell and The Council have agreed on implementing a fee to all foreign watercraft passing through the Emerald Strait. The position is not only ideal for alternative income but also places the Irish Republic in a strategic location for embargoes and sanctions on other nations should the need arise, as the Emerald Strait controls all shipping routes in and out of inland waters nearby. Toll locks should begin construction at the start of March. Irish need not be worried as your provincial ID waives toll fees.

Inaugural IRHL Games meet Tragedy in Cork
Power is out throughout the city of Cork tonight due to an unidentified man crashing his SUV into Cork's central power station. In an apparent suicide attempt, the man plowed through the security checkpoint and demolished the primary circuitry, putting the cities power down for at least 24 hours. The man is currently in critical condition in the Provincial Hospital and his vehicle is trying to be ID'd by local authorities. If you have any information regarding this incident please contact your nearest law enforcement office. The aforementioned power outage also puts a hold on tonight's IRHL activities as the home openers of four teams, one of which being the Cork Reverb, were supposed to take place. All of the other games were completed, with the emergence of potential phenom Paddy Considine of the Athlone Armada. Scoring a hat trick for his team, the Armada claim first in the league for now.

Potential talks between President O'Connell and President McPherson of Kaitaine regarding Emerald Strait policies
After proposing to impose fees in the Emerald Strait President McPherson has contacted President O'Connell wishing to come to a solution that works for both parties to avoid the imposing of these fees. On the diplomatic front these fees not only call into question international policy but also the direct effect it would have on Rodina. Time of talks are to be determined.

Prospective 17 year old Paddy Considine may be one of the top picks for Team FIR heading into the fourth Winter Games. The roster is taking shape and Head Coach Roy O'Donovan has given us what to expect the roster to look like. The following is not official but is most likely your 2018 Team FIR roster.

Forward Line 1: Fintan O'Sullivan (ATH), Paddy Considine (ATH), Séamus Keogh (ATH)
Forward Line 2: Lochlan McCarthy (JCK), Eamon McEvoy (ATH), Rob McInnerney (NDP)
Forward Line 3: Liam Ó Bríain (CMT), Frankie McShane (CRK), Jarlath Mullen (CMT)
Defense Line 1: Teauge McEvoy (CRK), Eamon McLean (CRK)
Defense Line 2: Rory McGuinness (JCK), Sean MacAteer (JCK)
Defense Line 3: Kieran Brannigan (NDP), Sean O'Connell (ATH)
Starting Goaltender: Sean Connolly (CMT)
Backup Goaltender: Manus Dougal (NDP)

In other Winter Games News, Westport is in the running to be the host city. A bid submitted by President O'Connell earlier today currently puts the FIR in contention with Nya Åland and their host city of Krokom. Should the FIR win the bid it will put us on an international stage and hopefully draw interest from around the world.

President McPherson and Svetlana Stalin touch down in Cork
The proposed meeting between the Rodinian and Soviet nations and President O'Connell has reached materialization today when the two representatives arrived in Cork in the northern part of the country. The main objective of these talks is related to the proposed tax on vessels passing through the Emerald Strait however new information leaked from the meeting agenda suggest that highly controversial Bene Geserit may be on the table as well. A follow up story will be released upon the President's official statement.
