Papal Visit to Miteravia

The state visit by Pope Peter II has finally drawn to a close after its third day, marking the end of the first ever state visit by the Pope to Miteravia and the first state visit hosted by the recently elected President Eryk Seiler. The three-day affair saw the Pope address the MGUP making a landmark speech addressing the 'hope and healing, of peace and justice' after which the 'Treaty of Friendship and Trade Between the Republic of Miteravia and the Ecclesiastical State' was negotiated and placed into effect. Many political and economic analysts have praised the work of the Miteravian Government and the benevolence of the Pope in obtaining a such an influential. The President has announced that the $1 billion gift from ES will be spent as part of the welfare budget, a move described by the Archbishop of Greater Miteravia as 'a beautiful and most Christian cause for the use of Papal-given funds'. Certain conservative MPs have voiced concerned over Article 5 of the treaty which grants ES citizens access to fast-track visas which they are woried 'robs Miteravia of the right to control her borders' however the SLP has branded this issue as 'untrue and inconsequential'.

Above: Pope Peter II delivering Mass from Oklan Cathedral

During the visit a Papal Nuncio was consecrated within Oklan with the hope of fostering even stronger relations with ES, this was promptly followed by a nationally televised Mass, which holds the record for the most watched television event since the signing of the constitution earlier this year. The Pope was also spotted visiting Grauerborg estate outisde of Gwyza and met the Mayor of West Miteravia. Whilst in the Western state he also visited Wolfstempel Memorial where he delivered another prayer to the crowd of onlookers which was described as 'moving' and 'heartfelt'.

Furthermore a source has told MNBO that the Pope, Archbishop and Government officials have denounced the ongoing separatism of Theocratic Polish Miteravians (TPM). With some sources saying it was referred to as 'heresy', this comes just days after Mayor Pawlak raised the Militia and temporarily rebased them to towns heavily effected by the TPMs ongoing unrest. More on the Papal visit here.

Largest Mass Arrest Since the End of Civil War

In the early hours of this morning in a raid was carried out on a house in downtown Gwyza by the West Miteravia State Militia. The house was believed to be a front for the so-called Theocratic Polish Miteravians (TPM), the raid is part of an ongoing investigation by the State Militia after reports of ongoing separatist activity in the area which has been dubbed by the State Mayor as 'Deplorable' and 'Undemocratic', Vice-President Hester issued a statement thanking the militia for their hard work in making these arrests.

The raid uncovered a large stockpile of illegally possessed firearms believed to have been kept after the civil war, there was also reportedly explosives and maps of government buildings recovered from the city according to a credible source MNBO has found. 14 Men and 7 Women were arrested at the scene, multiple others have been questioned in relation to these arrests. The charges and names of the individuals have not yet been released but our source tells us there will be at least 10 firearms charges laid against the individuals including possession of Class 3 and Class 4 weapons.

Exclusive photo of weapons recovered from the scene.

For those unfamiliar with the TPM, they are a decentralised separatist movement active in the Polish-Miteravian majority state of Western Miteravia. Catholicism is the most common religious denomination in the area as well. The TPM fancy themselves as Christian zealots who wish to exacerbate the difference in ethic subdivisions within Miteravian culture in opposition to the classic position of ethnic unity portrayed by the Nationalist ex-government and the modern position of equality enshrined by the SLP government, The TPM wish for Western Miteravia to secede from Miteravia as a Theocratic-Nationalist-Ethno-state ironically more authoritarian than the Neužil government they previously fought so aggressively against. The Catholic Archbishop of Miteravia has denounced the group on many separate occasions which has lead to the TPM calling for his deposition and an anti-archbishop take his place; during his visit to Miteravia Pope Peter II referred to this notion as 'heretical'. The group is a very small minority within Western Miteravia, who's support has grown since the end of the war, however these arrests today are hoped to be a significant setback for the organisation.

BREAKING NEWS: Ministry of the Interior officially designates the TPM an active domestic terrorist organisation, colluding or assisting any member of the TPM is now the criminal offence of Petty Treason against the Federal Government as well as the existing crime of Petty Treason against the State of Western Miteravia. Charge list released.
Charges to include:
3 Counts of Unlawful possession of a Class 1 firearm.
7 Counts of Unlawful possession of a Class 2 firearm.
11 Counts of Possession of a Class 3 firearm without dispensation.
6 Counts of Possession of Class 4 weaponry.
Conspiracy to commit High Treason against the State of Western Miteravia
Conspiracy to commit an Act of Terror
Conspiracy to Cause an Explosion with Intent to Endanger Life

Meme linked to Nationalism

In recent weeks an internet meme called 'Miteraviaball' has grown rapidly in popularity it is a derivative of 'Countryball' memes. According to Knowyourmeme.com, These user-generated cartoons typically follow the lives of ball-shaped creatures representing different countries (also known as Countryballs) and "international drama" surrounding their diplomatic relations. Countryballs including Miteravia have no limbs, pupils, eyebrows or mouth. Countryballs cannot into proper English (which kind of resembles the lolcat-meme. The “X cannot into Y” became a Miteraviaball related meme itself). An example of a Miteraviaball is shown below, some find it's comics funny while others say the can be offensive or in the case of Miteraviaball, some say it's creepy.

However this seemingly harmless cartoon has recently featured in cartoons often portraying the government as weak and calling the civil war an act of terrorism. Needless to say the internet users who produced these specific iterations of the cartoons have been linked to the Neužil and other far-right groups. Members of the MCP have called for the 'meme' to be banned, prompting a response from SLP backbench MPs calling the MCPs statement 'needless censorship'. The government has refused to comment on the memes calling the controversy 'trivial'.

Education to Become More 'International'

Minister of Education Klara Theiss has today issued a statement detailing the Ministry of Education's plans to 'take Miteravia to the global stage'. The statement warns that if Miteravia does not teach students in a more worldly fashion then we risk being resigned to the backseats for international events.
The Update to the national curriculum will include History being taught from a 'less biased and Miterav-centric standpoint' and mandate that all students learn 2 new languages on top of Miteravian German, although Miteravian German as a Second Language Students (MGSLs) will only have to learn 1 language on top of Miteravia German and their native language. This will also included a larger range of languages for students to choose from.
Currently only 45% of the population is fluent in a foreign language so the introduction of more linguistic development for a greater number of students is hoped to increase that number to 70% by the year 2030.
Introduction of new Secondary and Advanced level subjects are also to included International Relations, Leisure and Tourism, Classical Foreign History and more.

A Miteravian Among the Dead in Sarin Attack in East Moreland

A horrific series of Sarin attacks have been carried out in East Moreland, Lodja, Nya Aland and Ui Cenneslaig, it is currently being treated as terror related. The total death toll is currently reported at 62, including one Miteravian citizen. 201 are currently hospitalised in conjunction with the four attacks. All four attacks have been claimed by the so-called Kingdom of Borland, a separatist movement inside East Moreland, who have issued a chilling threat of another series of attacks that can only be subverted if the international community of Mundus bows to their demands which include: the release of four individuals linked to the Kingdom of Borland, secession from East Moreland and admittance to the Alba Karinya Organisation and the CETO. The Miteravia delegation to the CETO has voted to reject the Borelander application.

Reports from local sources say the chemical weapon was deployed via small mobile devices however details of the deployment are currently hazy at best as very few of those affect by the substance are yet conscious, none were available for a quote. The 24-year-old Miteravian man who was killed in East Moreland has not been named due to privacy concerns raised by his family after they were informed; we are however able to reveal he was in East Moreland travelling at the time of his death.

The government has been consistent with its sentiment with both the President and his rival Jakub Symanski MP both issuing statements condemning the attacks as 'acts of terror' and an 'abhorrent abuse of chemical weapons'. The Representatives to both the CETO and the Network of Republics have come out in opposition of the Kingdom of Boreland in one capacity or another.

Sarin as chemical weapon is banned from use in any capacity by the Uppsala Convention and its utilisation against civilians is even more highly frowned upon. Miteravia currently posses a small stockpile of Sarin gas along with other chemical weapons, which were produced in the 1950s by the Nationalist government, the stockpile is maintains amid safety concerns around effective disposal of the chemical compounds as such a branch of the IST maintains the containment of the chemical weapons. In response to these attacks the IST confirms it is mobilising Sarin antidotes and other treatments to all major hospitals in the event of an attack.

Concerns have now been raised as to whether Miteravia's hardline approach to opposing the Kingdom of Borland could result in attack on Miteravia or if a similar attack could be carried out by another enemy of the Miteravian state. Minister of the Interior, Dr David Schön has come out saying that an attack of this nature is 'highly unlikely on Miteravian soil' and that 'Miteravia posses the means to deal with such an incident should the worst happen'. One twitter pundit commented that 'you would think with all the Sarin that the Neužil dropped on people during the War, Miteravians would have evolved an immunity by now.'

More information on Sarin can be found here on the from the MHC.
