To:- Andrew

It is with great sadness that I must decline this invitation. Sadly the baby shower and the golf clashes with the closing ceremony of the Ostlake Games, an event I hope to see Seaforth return to next year as the BBQ's have this year only been "adequate". Additionally I don't think my back is up to golf these days.  I would have enjoyed spending some relaxing time with your family and introducing you to Baronetess Stasya, however this must now wait for future opportunities.

Please pass my congratulations and best wishes onto Joshua and Evanthe.

May The Gods Watch Over You and Your Putting Be True.

David

The Governor's Ball has begun! The Governor's residence is buzzing with activity as the invited guests begin to arrive. Over the next hour, SUV's and limousines pull up and let out their guests. Governor Rhodes and his wife, Evanthe, circle the room, greeting those they know and introducing themselves to those they don't. This is a perfect opportunity to have a quick drink or an informal word with someone prior to dinner and the official welcome and opening remarks from Governor Rhodes.

OOC: If you want your party to make an entrance/introduction feel free. Otherwise, my next post will be assembling for dinner and a Welcome Speech (short) from Joshua.

OOC:

It has been brought to my attention that the ball invitations are confusing. Its actually 2 invitations. The first from Joshua Rhodes is world wide for an iinternational ball to be held in Wellow. The second is for friends and family to remain after the ball for a baby shower and golf outing.

Sorry for any confusion

It wouldn't quiet be politically acceptable for the Governor to host a ball without the Duchess of Wellow in attendance. Anna hadn't spent too much time on her island home since appointing Joshua, she'd been busy accompanying the Grand Duke to various events, be it the internment of the Koul family in East Moreland or his trips to the Ardian Assembly HQ to try and metaphorically crack SANE and Rokkenjimas heads together. She was however looking forward to the evening but even a simple ball arrival was complicated with the two accompanying Horseman of Jekar who were the aide's of the Lead Sword and escorted her pretty much everywhere. Dressed in full ceremonial regalia they left her at the front door of the governors mansion as she greeted her Governor.

Soon after Duchess Rhiannon arrived, she'd recently purchased a small holiday home on the island and naturally as a political opportunist she had taken the chance to attend a ball that had every likelihood of having some big overseas names in attendance. She hadn't turned up alone however and had in tow William Thurssel who was both the nations Minister of Trade and her Shield Father, he'd known Rhiannon's father at University and since his death had been almost a surrogate father to her. Rhiannon was rather excited about the whole event while if truth be told William would have preferred being sat at home his feet up watching some nice TV Box set with a glass of wine.

Something as mundane as a Ball one country over had caused quite a stir in the Speaker's Palace. Coveted. Coveted! The ministers and advisers of the government couldn't stand to throw up the opportunity to make connections. The temptation of gaining influence in the government through the assistance for foreigners; whom seldom appeared before them. Not without going directly to the Speaker, at least. Even Bakkermaya, who had an immense stretch of border with the NQF was kept at arm's length. Bearing this in mind, the Speaker decided it was to be Grand General Ianaha Hasaenori who accompanied her, the First of the Four Serpents. Below only the Brilliant Speaker herself in power, wealth and influence.

The ambitions of the lower nobles meant they simply couldn't be trusted. But Ianaha had all she could ever want already. Accompanied each by a black suited bodyguard, the rather secretive Phoenix Guard. Casually, the pair greeted their Bakkermayan counterparts as they made entrance, before each splitting off in different directions, eager to find someone to talk with. Wearing a custom-tailored suit, designed to appease those foreign in both mindset and fashion sense; Junko approached the Seaforthians and gave them her greetings.

The Grand General merely kept to the sidelines and watched as the hall filled with those with important names and deep pockets.

Under normal circumstances, it would have been the Imperial Couple of Krimeon attending an event such as this one, however it was decided that the female heir got the privilege to do so. Crown Princess Jadwiga or Hedwig for that matter would one day take over the throne and the Governor's Ball would indeed serve as a good practice, gaining experience whilst potentially getting to know newer, influential contacts in the process never hurt. Wearing a traditional dress native to Krimeon, she was accompanied by imperial bodyguards wearing quite the classy suits as it were. "Just be yourself and have fun." they told her before she left for the Dukedom of Wellow, meaning she had to make the effort somehow to converse with anyone even if she didn't know anyone there.

Greeting the Bakkermayan hosts, she casually walked around with a drink in her hand, searching for someone to talk to, although this party would eventually turn out to be fun, Jadwiga would've preferred to spending time with her own people and ride out with her horse into the Krimeonite countryside. Relaxing against a wall, she could only spectate the various guests that were already there and those who recently arrived, sipping on her drink and waited for that upcoming dinner. "Why, you grace me with your presence,"  she said lazily to the one who approached her. Depending on who was receiving the words, they might take it as a joke, a compliment, or a slight. Or, they might just chalk it up the Jadwiga's drinking. "How was your journey, my lord/lady?"

Ianaha traced her gaze idly across the room, even as a woman without a doubt bearing some kind of influence approached. She listened to what they had to say, the only giveaway that she was even paying attention being a small grin that formed as they spoke. "It's an auspicious day indeed. The great dragon of Quywe has come for all to see." She said, locking eyes with her, tilting her head to the side. She turned her head back towards the busy room as a Phoenix Guard approached; a noticeably toned Vesian woman wearing fashionably oversized spectacles. "Your drink." They said curtly, which Ianaha happily took.

"My journey..." She continued, smiling at nobody in particular. "The rain bears down heavily on Shidarekawa this time of year, it's nice to be away from it." Her eyes widened slightly in revelation as she took another pause in speaking. "Oh! Of course! Forgive me, I don't talk with people often. I am Grand General Ianaha Hasaenori, of the Neo Quywe Federation." She turned to face Jadwiga. Her clothing matched that of a General, bearing medals and markings appropriate. Her outward appearance lent itself more to a shut in, though.

Her dark hair reached down to her waist in the back, fixed up in a long braid. A lock of it also obscured her left eye at the front as it reached down to her shoulders. The Phoenix Guard walked off and disappeared into the crowd, no doubt still keeping an eye from a distance. "And you?" She asked, taking a sip from a tall glass. Like the Speaker and her fellow Serpents; Ianaha was undeniably quirky in the eyes of foreigners. Her mannerisms mimicked that of the Quywe nobles of old. Quiet, distant yet surprisingly affable.

It was quite likely to be the most unexpected arrival on the day, not necessarily in terms of who but how, a car driven by Arthur Whitaker, the Duke of Rosevale sat outside the residence it was a four by four with space simply because the other Achkaerinese guests had elected to take the scenic route in getting to the Governor's Residence. Arthur stood leaning against the car's boot door looking at his watch musing over how long it was going to take, it wasn't drastic yet they still had plenty of time to turn up and be presentable for dinner. It was a few minutes later while he was sliding through some emails from his eldest granddaughter that his ears picked up the tell tale sounds of the approach.

The rest of the Achkaerinese guests had elected to travel from the airport to the residence by bicycle, the headliner as it were was Crown Princess Serenity with her she'd brought her two daughters Astrid and Lisa and this to a large extent explained by they were on bicycles because Serenity had bought the two girls their first bicycles a few weeks earlier and they'd been wanting to go on a long ride with them - and by long ride that meant outside the grounds of the Avalon Estate, Lisa had gotten the hang of it a bit quicker but then she'd probably ridden before so she'd been able to dispense with the stabilizers quite quickly Astrid on the other hand was still using them and was essentially riding a tricycle as a result. Additionally the presence of Serenity merited as one would expect security, normally this would have been Lydia Daniels but due to who the Governor of Wellow actually was or more specifically who the Governor's sister was Lydia had 'accidentally' double booked herself and so Julian Lawson was handling the security - which would be about the least surprising thing of the day.

As they rode along the path to the residence Serenity had Astrid alongside her and Lisa in front of her, she wanted both her daughters where she could see them and Julian was up ahead of Lisa. There were two other bicycles in the group, the one behind Serenity that was essentially sweeping up the rear was being ridden by Hope Shearney, she was probably the last person within the Achkaerinese nobility that would be expected to turn up to this but there were two reasons the first was that she was working with Serenity on the Legacy Sport Foundation, they had some big plans and it was a good chance to talk through them, the second reason was because of who rounded out the Achkaerinese party because on the bike riding at the head of the group was Julian's sister Sammy Lawson and Sammy didn't normally socialize with the likes of the people who'd be at the ball so bringing someone from the world of sport like Hope along, someone Sammy did know, was meant to help the Achkaerinese cyclist feel a little more at ease with the situation. Of course there were no prizes for guessing why Sammy was actually with the group - Julian had decided it was time that Sammy finally met Harper. The other thing to note was that while everyone else was riding mountain bikes Sammy was of course on a road bike.

As they rounded the corner and saw the gates of the residence it predictably turned into a race which also predictably Sammy won by a long way, she even had enough time to stop near where Arthur was standing just in time to see Julian come in second and then of course came the inevitable
"Not fair." Julian said "Really not fair."
"You should know better than to race me by now." Sammy said taking off her helmet as the others arrived

"How late are we Arthur?" Serenity asked as she got off her bike
"You've got plenty of time." Arthur said "Been a few arrivals but they came by car."
"Julian you did make sure we have somewhere to change for dinner in there right?" Serenity asked
"Harper has it in hand." Julian said "I'll go and ring the bell."
"I'll get the bags." Arthur said

Before answering the Quywe General, Jadwiga took a good look at her, scanning every inch of her entire figure with those light green eyes. Indeed, even if Ianaha didn't reveal her title and rank it wouldn't have taken a guess to figure the importance of her status and authority anyway, and along with the silky black hair of the General reaching down to the waistline made her the attractive woman that a man could easily appeal to. "No need to worry General, anyone can't be good at everything." she gave a quaint smile, turning her head facing forwards the gathering of crowd appearing right in front of them.

"I'm Jadwiga of House Poniatowski-Esterházy, Crown Princess of the Empire of Krimeon and thus also daughter to His Imperial Apostolic Majesty, Emperor Axel I." Stretching out her hand for a shake, she took further sips from the drink in her hand. "As for how the journey went on my part, I can't be more than grateful enough for the timing. There's currently a heat wave hitting the Empire as we speak, it's so hot over there that one needs to only be worn in underwear and garments, if even that's needed." she chuckled, knowing that it might've sounded like an exageration but the truth about the heat was indeed true. "The climate here is...marginally better at least. We can't always wish for it to be perfect of course."

As Jadwiga finished her entire glass, a servant stopped by carrying a train with new refreshments. Feeling relieved, the crown princess simply placed it on said tray and took a new alcoholic drink. "Heh, I believe we'll need a few of these to take us through the evening." she said raising her glass for a quick toast. "Well if you were looking for ways you could make use of my influence, I may be a big disappointment depending on what it is you desire the most." Jadwiga briefly let the background sounds fill the empty space between them, after all business could be combined with pleasure, contrary to the silly, cautionary wives tales she used to sometimes hear.

Tauredalia was eager to make international connections, even as its internal kingdoms vied for dominance in the Confederacy, and an invitation to mingle with the Mundus influential was too good an opportunity to ignore. Being seen at a celebratory soiree might even mitigate the seemingly aggressive stance the small nation had made on the nuclear situation. As King Darya was representing their interests in Paracambi, the honor of attending the Governor's ball fell to Prince Varzar behr Darya de Kernpak, the Heir Apparent, and his wife and future queen, Iexala.

Varzar was entering his fifties, yet his face was unlined by worries and his hair, which receded from his temples, was still dark. His pin-striped suit was a striking green, accented by a tie matching his wife's lavish dress. Despite the brightness of his outfit, his wife outshined him. It was difficult to tell her true age, not only from her face, but also from the amount of skin she dared to show. This woman had given birth to several children, none of which seemed to have left a mark on her.

The royal couple greeted their hosts with Iexala exchanging encouraging words about pregnancy while her husband spoke, and then they continued onward to the party. After surveying the room for potential conversation partners, Varzar decided to approach Duchess Rhiannon and William Thurussel. "Quite a gathering," Varzar remarked. "Have you traveled far?"

General Hasaenori tilted her head to the side once more. Giggling impishly. "You know, I'm something of an anomaly even back home. My presence is requested in many places, but I make myself rare. When they see me present in the great halls of the Quywe government, it's an omen. But." She said, turning her head to look Jagwida dead in the eyes. "Perhaps today isn't such a day, instead one to indulge myself in the ways of the other world leaders. Before I return to the Temple of the Voice, endlessly scheming to myself."

With her free hand, she took a match from her pocket and struck it, running it against the rim of her glass in a single fluid motion, igniting the drink into a blue flame. "Though." She said with force, redirecting Jagwida's attention away from her glass and back to her. "I suppose I can't always escape work. Call me a trump card; I tend to draw the eye of foreign dignitaries. This is helpful practice indeed, to draw people in. The Brilliant Speaker does like it when she has personal means to the rich and powerful of Mundus." She finished with an impish grin; tossing the spent match into a nearby bin when the trail of smoke died down.

"And what of you, Your Majesty? What do you seek here?" Ianaha inquired, blowing out the flame.

Having made herself known to the Seaforthians, the Brilliant Speaker took off again in search of someone else.

Crown Princess Jadwiga moved closer to the General, still clinging against the wall with her back attached, as she started to take a liking to this quirky character from the NQF. "Please, no need for any formalities between us; you may call me Jadwiga, as long as I may call you Ianaha." she told her directly looking also straight into her eyes, taking hold of the General's hands though released them slowly and gently when she realised, releasing a little giggle. There was something about Hasaenori that attracted her, though Jadwiga didn't know exactly what.

"Truth be told Ianaha, I'm here officially to represent the Empire and my family, though in actuality I'm simply going with the flow of things as they happen to appear, if that makes sense. Sometimes it feels great to have no plan at all to adhere to, just...accepting the situations as they are without holding any reservations about them beforehand. Anyways I'm probably just blabbering nonsense coming out of my mouth, must be the drinks tihihi. Also I'm sorry but I can't just take my mind off of that blue flame you managed to procure in your glass, mind you show me how to?" Jadwiga said, relieved that General bumped into her which made the latter a suitable conversasionalist.

Duchess Rhiannon had to laugh a little when Varzar asked her if she had travelled far. "Technically just from the end of the street" she smiled, "I own a property that way." She removed the hand that had rested upon the slim narrow needle like blade that hung at her hip suspended on a cross belt worn over her dress and extended a hand of friendship towards the Prince. "I'm Duchess Rhiannon" she said proudly, "Technically I'm from Harby, the Bakkermayan island that sits directly south of here." She explained. "This is my friend William Thurussel, the nations Minister of Trade, he's also my Shield father. I'm not sure how familiar you are with the Cult of Helus but essentially it means he's supposed to act as a kind of protector to me and help guide me. I suspect its a little like Christianities Godparent concept" she shrugged not even sure if Varzar and his people were Christian or not but finding it the easiest comparison. "The person you really should introduce yourself to however is" Rhiannon looked across the room searching for the familiar face of Anna, spotting her Rhiannon beckoned her over. "This is Duchess Anna, she's actually the Duchess of Wellow, apart from her governor here she's had the shortest trip."

"Welcome to Wellow Your Highness." Anna said with a slight bow. "I hope you've found our little island hospitable." she smiled, "Sadly I don't get to spend as much time here as I'd like of late. Grand Duke Lascelles has me running various errands." she explained.  "I'm thrilled though to see so many new faces on the island, its a big hats off to Joshua Rhodes. Have you ever visited Seaforth?" She asked the Prince. "Its a nation well worth a visit for the whisky alone."

The Grand General chuckled to herself and leaned back against the wall. "You know, I'm actually quite fond of the formalities. Getting to where I am now has been my life's work. And the effort has paid off." She bragged, wearing a sly grin. "When the Brilliant Speaker said her mission was done, everyone came back in droves, all the royalty scattered over the world returned, hoping for a position of power. Birthright didn't guarantee anything anymore." She paused to take a tiny sip, the burning liquor too hot to drink comfortably. "It begged for treachery. And it could be found at every dark corner. I won't tell you how, but I made it to the top."

She mused for a second. "Below only the mastermind of the NQF herself, and above everyone else in it. That's where I stand now. Those damned old men never expected that one." Raising her glass to her face, she rested it against her cheek. As if to only feel the heat. "Anyways, the drink; it's not so much about a secret technique. This is hashiru. It's a bit overproof; but lighting it before drinking is said to bring health of the mind."

She narrowed her eyes, an idea. Using a small hand gesture, she waved over the same Phoenix Guard. Out of the crowd, the Vesian approached; a quick bow to the pair. "Perhaps she'd like to try hashiru." In her mind, she wasn't sure what to think of the Crown Princess. Rather touchy, even for a foreigner. Though she seemed to lack the ulterior motives of so many people back home. Figuring she'd continue entertaining Jagwida, she waved off the Phoenix Guard to get her acquaintance some liquor.

"A toast then my dear Grand General, for formalities and yourself by making it to the top." Jadwiga raised her glass and she clinked glasses with Ianaha, feeling rather impressed by the Grand General's achievements and where she was currently today. "But indeed, I know too well about what you're referring to. It was actually thanks to my family back home that Krimeon started to become more of a place where ability and talent brought you forward instead of simply one's birthright. It took a while certainly, but political franchisement through the first Constitution of its kind paved the way forth. Fast forward a few centuries later and the Emperor's powers are basically non-existant, not even holding the status of nominal chief executive; all of it has basically been transferred to the People. In the end, I'm actually glad that these developments became reality and I would rather 'wave and smile' as it is called rather than actually making every decision that's slapped right unto your face." she said proudly and it could've been considered a brag as well, with the grin forming on her mouth to match Ianaha's who was rather good at that.

Again Jadwiga thought that the Grand General was a peculiar character although it didn't distain her from making a friend in the process, one of the more interesting ones in a long that ever since hse actually made the effort to do so, and a rather alluring one. "Of course I wouldn't want to forego this 'hashiru', as long as it brings health to my mind, I think it'll be fine." she giggled. "I don't know about you, but would you like to take a stroll around and pay our respects to others? My back's starting to become too clingly towards the wall, hehe. We can perform hashiru some place else."

The royal couple politely laughed at Rhiannon's little joke. Varzar was also passingly familiar with Christianity from his travels, but he found the duchess' initial explanation sufficient. He also made a mental note to do more research into the Cult of Helus as he'd initially approached Rhiannon out of curiosity.

Varzar and his wife greeted Anna, and he smiled as he replied, "I"m afraid I haven't yet made it that far north, but I might have to give it a try with your recommendation."

"The weather here is lovely," Iexala interjected. "I don't know how you get anything done. If I lived here, I'd spend too much time out in the sun."

Varzar chuckled. "My wife does love to worship the sun, but it's a poor idea to do so back home. The air is far too dusty to spend much time outside. Do you spend most of your time in Seaforth?"

Joshua and Evanthe were having a great time as they worked through the cocktail hour. The couple were very sure to greet each of the guests as they arrived and welcome them to Wellow on behalf of the Duchess. As the cocktail hour closed out, the Welcome Dinner was called. As the staff prepared to serve, Joshua made his way to the podium to give his welcome speech.

"Friends and neighbours, new and old. It is my great pleasure to welcome you to the Governor's Ball. I would like to start by thanking Anna, Duchess of Wellow, for opening her home, island and Duchy to us...allowing us to have this little get-together."

Joshua starts a round of applause, soon taken up by the room and continuing until Anna stands and acknowledges the room. Smiling wide, Joshua continues.

"Thank you Duchess. My time as Governor will be fleeting, but this is, I hope, the beginning of a great tradition. Too often, the people who find themselves in a position of power and influence, only come together in dire circumstances or threat...or to discuss weighty and serious issues in their nations and the world at large. I wanted to break that cycle. I wanted my international friends and peers to come together for one weekend where we could lay down our burdens for a time, to eat and dance in friendship and camaraderie, where the most difficult decision faced is whether to have one dessert or two. For when two people come together in harmony and openness, that is when bonds are made, that is when worlds are built. So welcome Bakkermaya, Welcome Seaforth, Welcome Rokkenjima, Welcome Neo Quywe Federation, Welcome Krimeon,  Welcome Achkaerin, Welcome Tauredalia, welcome each and every one of you. As the great writer said, 'Come and know me better, man!"

Applause...

"Now, the chef's have moved heaven and earth to bring you the very best of Wellow and Bakkermayan cuisine tonight. Some of the highlight dishes include Wellow Fried Snapper, Jerk Chicken Cabbage Rolls, Goat Stew, Coconut Rice, Pumpkin Spiced Perogies...and for desserts we have Plantain and Chocolate Strudel and Pineapple Sachre Torte."

"Lastly, please join me offering a small prayer of thanks to the Gods, or whatever power you believe in, for allowing us to share in this meal, this night and this weekend."

With the prayers ended, dinner is served....

It wouldn't come as any surprise that Serenity, her daughters and Arthur were accustomed to formal dinners such as this, though they weren't as accustomed to turning up in everyday clothes and then having to change within the half an hour before dinner was served was not such a thing. Hope being a daughter of an Achkaerinese noble family was also somewhat familiar with the occasion, even Julian was through his work slightly experienced at this, but there were no prizes for guessing who felt the most awkward at the table and that was Sammy, she sat eating very nervously and while others chatted she kept herself to herself for the most part this wasn't her arena, she'd come along because Julian had asked her to and while she'd known that there was this dinner on the schedule it hadn't done much to calm her nervousness in the situation. Still at least she could talk sport with Hope when time for conversation came.

Serenity was in parent mode, cutting up the meat her daughters had on their plates, making sure their eyes weren't being greedy - the last thing she wanted was the pair of them being sick in the morning. Still it was a good thing to just be able to relax, no agenda's, no business just a little time away from things.
