Immigration reform announced

Minister Aka Goglidze has announced that the Ministry of Immigration Policy is working to present the much discussed proposal to reform the immigration policy of the Unitary State of Mktvartvelo to the National Assembly in the coming weeks.

"We are considering seriously the proposals from lawmakers and our own technical committees to advance a deep but balanced reform", Minister Aka Goglidze has declared.

Although important changes may be introduced on the current draft, it is expected that the legislation will liberalize the immigration and migration legislation, reducing obstacles and abolishing or at least considerably reducing punitive measures for the violation of the migration clauses.

It is not expected, despite rumours, that the legislation on citizenship or naturalization would be modified by the current reform though. Currently, only the children of female citizens have the right to citizenship in the Unitary State of Mktvartvelo, something that prominent liberal-leaning campaigners have argued to be discriminatory. However, Goglidze has declared that they are working with the Ministry of Justice in order to faciliate permanent residency and work for those non-citizens born in the Unitary State of Mktvartvelo.

The minister has declared that she expects that the reform is likely to have important positive changes on trade and economic competitiviness, but that it is unlikely to have a serious impact on demographic or social trends, as some critics had warned.

Minister of Justice meets with Juglander representatives

Minister of Justice Veriko Kochladze visited today the Free Autonomous Territory of Jugland, becoming the first member of the national government to do so since Bidzina Samkharadze was appointed Prime Minister.

In Albrektberg, Kochladze met with the President of Jugland's State Governorate, Burkhardt Kvalheim, who also holds the position of Secretary of Home Affairs and Justice. The minister, who declared that her visit was "ordinary and conventional", met with Kvalheim for more than one hour. Kochladze declared that the meeting was "constructive", "cordial", and "positive". On his part, Kvalheim expressed his gratitude for the visit of the minister and hoped that both "Ktsatskuri and Jugland...will be able to find common ground on particular legal matters".

While the Free Autonomous Territory of Jugland has greater autonomy with its own judiciary system, it is subject to Mktvartvelo's constitutional order since 2004, which sometimes has created tensions regarding constitutional and legal matters, as it could be seen in a recent decision by Mktvartvelo's Supreme Court regarding resident cards issued by Juglander authorities.

Kochladze denied that the main purpose of her visit was to discuss a negotiated settlement on this decision, assuring that her visit had been planned shortly as she was appointed to the Ministry. Her appointment as Minister of Justice was certainly received positively in the local media, as Kochladze built a reputation as one of a new generation of liberal-leaning representatives in the National Assembly. However, she declared during her visit that "gradual and realistic reforms" shall "be the horizon of this government".

President Kvalheim declared to be satisfied with the "nature and purpose" of the meeting, and that he hoped that "our vision and voice will be seriously understood and considered" by the new administration in Ktsatskuri.

Kommuna Inc. reacts to takeover rumours

Ewald Huhtamo, CEO of Kommuna Inc., addressed the media after recent rumours and reports about a possible takeover agreement by Isiasovoria-Lodja Telecommunications to acquire a large number of shares of the Juglander company.

"Certainly", Huhtamo declared, "Isiasovoria-Lodja Telecommunications is a reputable, serious and expanding company in our sector, there is not doubt about that". However, he warned Kommuna's shareholders to have a realistic outlook, about their own interests, and about the interests of the company as well.

"We continue bring the best results to our shareholders and customers", Huhtamo said. However, he seems to disagree about the intent of Isiasovoria-Lodja Telecommunication, and warned and suggested the company shareholders to avoid selling their shares in the current circumstances. "I am proud to say that we have not only consolidated in our market, but experiencing an increasing rise in reputation, and this is the path we are going to continue. We are certain that such assessment sides with their own financial interests, there is no doubt about that".

Tax reform aimed to boost tourism in Mktvartvelo

Tsiuri Mazniashvili, Minister of Economic Development, has announced that Mktvartvelo's national government plans to introduce new week legislation which would introduce a set of tax exemptions in order to develop the tourism industry. "We believe that the demand is increasing, and we have a chance to further developing domestic tourism", the minister explained. "As well as a simplification and reduction in licensing and rigid regulations, we believe that the proposed tax exemptions will have an impact in improving our tourism facilities and increase employment in the sector".

The decision comes after the announcement of the Ministry of Treasury tax reform, which will see a reduction of the corporate tax from 28% to 20% while an increase of the top personal income tax from 33% to 40%. Mazniashvili has also declared that they hope that the simplification in VAT taxation established by the Ministry of Treasury is expected to have a positive impact in the growth of the sector as well.

The minister also announced that the government aims to introduce an increase in spending in public transport and communications in the coming budget, to strengthen and promote rural tourism in provincial areas.

Mktvartvelo: Islamic preachers sentenced for "unlawful and religious misconduct"

Five Islamic preachers were sentenced in a court case in Chiaiki, northeastern Mktvartvelo. They were accused of public disorder, unlawful confuct and aggressive proselytism.

The case has received media and public attention as such cases of religious misconduct are rarely prosecuted nowadays in the country. Some have argued that such legislation is obsolete and has no much sense in contemporary society. A number of theologians and religious leaders have denounced the sentence as a violation of freedom of religion. On the other hand, others have argued that should not be an excuse to ignore the law.

In any case, the judge ruled out a prison sentence, and they sentenced to a fine from $25,000 to $100,000, and six weeks of community service or compulsory public works instead. The judge argued that the "the conduct of the accused could only be described as...repeated offenses, which make the arguments of the defense inconsistent or weak...leaving no doubt, as the facts have established,  about the nature and purpose of their public conduct".

Three of the accused will face immediate extradition to Abydos, the country where they are from. Another one, who was born in Mktvartvelo but who is not a Mktvartvelian citizen, was also sentenced to temporary house arrest, until the appeal is decided. The judge argued that such provisional messure was justified given the suspect's "past and present motivation to ignore judiciary notifications before and during the current case". No further restrictions were decided for the fifth defendant, who is a Mktvartvelian national.

The legal teams of the defendants have announced that they will be appealing the sentences, bringing the case if necessary to Mktvartvelo's Supreme Court. Their chances of success, however, are not clear.

FK Sandberg wins 2022 Juglander Cup

FK Sandberg defeated EMAC Albrektberg 4-3 to win their 27th Juglander Cup.

The Jugland Cup final was only decided in the extra time, after both times ended drawing 3-3 in the first 90 minutes. Veteran defender Colmand Moen became the unexpected hero, despite an erratic match, scoring two goals, including the final winning goal after a corner kick.

The match was likely enjoyable for fans and spectators, although probably not that much by the teams managers, although the match was marked by errors in defense in both areas.

It was the first title for FK Sandberg since 2015. The Juglander Cup is the second most important football title in Jugland, following the Juglander Elite League.

The title came after a disappointing season for FK Sandberg, in which they have been struggling in the Juglander league. Both teams will have to focus in the end of the season, as another league match expect them this weekend.

"We're surely disappointed", EMAC Albrektberg coach declared, "it was so close but we must continue. We have an important match this Saturday and that is all what should be on our mind. We hope that we will be able to offer our fans some joy soon". EMAC Albrektberg has failed to win an official title since 2017 when, then under their classical name of SK Albrektberg, they won both the Juglander Cup and the Elite League the same season.

Mktvartvelian millonaire in the spotlight after acquiring property in Kingdom of Nis

Mktvartvelian businesswoman Zhuldyz Birinseli, who made it last year into our "45 Under 45" list, has acquired real estate in the Kingdom of Nis, according to reports.

It is not a secret that she recently visited the northwestern country, as it could be seen by simply looking at her social media accounts. However, it was information provided by an unexpected source, Murab A., who runs the popular videoblog "Murab Casus", who recently visited the southwestern region of the Coft Aranye nation in the last weeks, brought new information by interviewing locals, some of which was confirmed by Mktvartvelian media in recent days.

It seems that the Mktvartvelian businesswoman acquired some lands in a southwestern county of said nation, including an old and poorly conserved castle, probably around one year ago. The building was rebuilt and renovated, to an extent that the building could be better described as a modern house inserted into a castle. Along the main building, it was also built what could be described as a guest house constructed with exposed concrete and raw steel, designed with a more clearly modernist architecture style. The complex also seems to include a 25-meter lap pool and a four-car garage. As it could be seen in Murab's videoblog, not all neighbors of the area seems to be very happy of this repurpose of one of the oldest medieval buildings of the town.

However, sources close to the Mktvartvelian businesswoman has rejected the reality of such claims, assuring that Birinseli would be in good terms with the local authorities, particularly after she offered to fund a "Museum of Local Customs" in the mentioned town, in which she permanently donated many objects and artworks that were included in the castle but she had not a particular interest to keep for herself, so local and tourists could see them.

It is not clear what could be the interest by Birinseli in this particular area, however, as the county where the house is located has reportedly only a few thousands inhabitants, not exactly one of the most dynamic regions of the eastern country. It is unknown as well how much time she plans to spend in the country, as she currently has her official residence in Mktvartvelo, as well as owning property in other countries. There are rumours that she would be under negotiationst to acquire more land in a nearby area, supposedly to build a vineyard, but this remains to be confirmed.

When asked by our publication, her representatives simply have asked for Mrs. Birinseli's right to privacy.

Brzdmtsveli Ketevan visits medieval shrine

It has been reported that Brzdmtsveli Ketevan has taken a few days off to visit a shrine 100 kms from the capital city of the Unitary State of Mktvartvelo. The shrine is well-known for guarding some of the remains of late Bedisa I the Sage, who ruled the Kingdom of Sashuavelo for a few decades in the 13th century.

The move has surprised many in Mktvartvelo, as Mktvartvelian head of states have rarely honoured historical figures from the Kingdom of Sashuavelo or other states of the same era, instead focusing those from ancient times or since the establishment of the Unitary State of Mktvartvelo in the 18th century, as they are generally considered less divisive regarding inter-clan relations. While Queen Bedisa I is usually positively regarded by Mktvartvelian historians for the administrative reforms she administered and the relative political stability during her reign, she is also considered controversial for her persecution against Christians and other religious minorities.

Although the Office of the Brzdmtsveli gave few details about the visit, it has reported that the Brzdmtsveli offered a libation on the 13th-century Queen's headstone as offering, with the assistance of a local priestess.

The spokesperson of the Mktvartvelian government has rejected any political interpretation of the visit, while it received some criticism from some Christian organizations in Jugland, arguing that such visit without further historical context could be poorly misunderstood. However, others have argued that the visit may be better understood from a personal motivation rather than a political or religious one, as Queen Bedisa belonged to the Damoukebedi tribe, same tribe which Brzdmtsveli Ketevan's husband, Vazha Chiaureli, own clan comes from.

It is expected that Brzdmstveli Ketevan will also participate in the coming days in a religious celebration regarding the Datsqabuli festivity, which is consacrated to the goddess Bortsvimaghalia, one of the most important deities in the Order of Simartlea.

League title to be decided in final matchday

Defender Joonas Lange's red card may cost FK Albrektberg the title.

The 35th matchday of the Juglander Elite League, the most important championship in Jugland's football, started with much anticipations, and many things may be decided, including the champion of the league title. However, it will need to be decided in the final matchday, this weekend, as FK Albrektberg, which are currently leading the title, was unable to defeat AC Albrektberg.

EMAC Albrektberg started their match against AC Keskus four points behind FK Albrektberg, well aware that their effort could be futile if FK Albrektberg won their match. It was not easy, as the away team did not come to EMAC Albrektberg stadium as tourists, as they are currently facing to avoid relegation to Jugland' second division. They showed a clear opposition, but the resistance was finally defeated just before the half time, when EMAC Albrektberg scored the first goal of the match. The match finally ended with a 3-0 win for EMAC Albrektberg.

FK Albrektberg clearly showed no signs for the pressure, starting to dominate their match against AC Albrektberg, with many clear chances in the first twenty minutes. However, things complicated for FK Albrektberg when defender Joonas Lange was sent old after an unfortunate tackle at minute 35. As time passed more inaccuracies and unforced errors were accumulating by FK Albrektberg attacks, unable to drill into their rival defense.

The fight for the title between FK Albrektberg and EMAC Albrektberg will need to be decided in the final matchday, in which they will face in away matches SK Midtenstadt and AC Albrektberg respectively. Despite their renewed optimism after this matchday, EMAC Albrektberg fans should be cautious enough, as their club not only does not still depend on themselves but it may not be easy to win their match as AC Albrektberg, not only because their performance in their last match, but because the local team will be strongly needed of the win, as if they win they will surpass AC Keskus and avoid to face the playoff which may led them to relegation.

It was a sadder day for Nanko FC fans, as their team lost 0-1 against SK Midtendstadt and confirmed their relegation to second division (the second in three years), as they will finish last in this season league.

Inzhu Birinseli to head agro-corporation Niadatsqali Inc.

In a press statement, it has been confirmed that Bek Opakadze will be replaced by her daughter Inzhu Birinseli as CEO of Niadatsqali Inc.. Opakadze, 83, became CEO of Niadatsqali Inc., in 1996, following the death of Damir Birinseli.

Niadatsqali Inc. is one of the largest agrarian companies in Mktvartvelo. The company owns more than 56,000 ha., most of them in western and southern Mktvartvelo, although the company has expanded in other regions in the last two decades, as well as into livestock holdings, hunting, and solar energy.

Inzhu Birinseli, 44, has been a member of Niadatsqali Inc. board of directors since 2013, including serving as Director of Communication for the company from 2012 to 2016. While she will be the first woman to head the company, established in 1948, her case is far to be unique. About 40% of companies registered in the Azavrelia Stock Exchange, the largest in Mktvartvelo, are currently headed by a woman, as well as women making up 44 per cent of chief executives and 37 per cent of chief financial officers. For women in corporate boards, the number is estimated to be about 55% in 2021.

In comparison, for those companies listed in the Albrektberg Stock Exchange and originally established in Jugland, only 24% of board members in those companies are women, while women make up barely 8% of CEOs in those companies, despite Jugland having a higher GDP per capita than the national average in Mktvartvelo's mainland. Those numbers have caused some voices to suggest that Jugland's State Governorate is not doing enough to promote gender equality in the corporate world.

However, some have pointed out that such difference may be motivated more for cultural than social and legal causes, so those numbers may not be easy to replicate. "Many companies, including some of the largest ones", explains Eveliina Korpela, Professor of Contemporary Sociology in the University of Albrektberg, " in Mktvartvelo are still either family business or whose ownership are still held by a majority of families which may belongs to the same clan or as an union of two powerful clans. Particularly with the incorporation of women to high education in the second half of the 20th century, a larger number of women in the corporate boards seems a rational choice, as their wealth and influence is likely to be kept and be inherieted in the same family or clan, unlike their male counterparts".

Still, not everyone seems convinced by similar reasonings and Secretary Emmeline Kolseth, leader of the Green Party, has recently endorsed the establishment of gender quotas in corporate boards, although the idea seemed to gain traction in other Juglander political parties.

FK Albrektberg celebrates men's football league title

FK Albrektberg offered the Juglander Elite League title to their fans after winning the league in the last match. It was the 41th Juglander Elite League title for FK Albrektberg, the fifth in a row.

FK Albrektberg only needed a draw to win the title in their final match, but the team decided not to play with fire since the first minutes of the match, obtaining an overhelming win against SK Midtenstadt by 0-5.

EMAC Albrektberg won their match against AC Albrektberg by 1-3, but they had to console themselves with the runner-up of the league as the news from Midtenstadt left them with no options to win the league.

"While we would have preferred to do it in front of our people, it was certainly an excellent way to win the title", Okoda Shingo, FK Albrektberg manager declared after the match. "The season was not perfect", he added, probably in a reference to the team surprising elimination in the Juglander Cup quarterfinals against Nanko FC, "but we will continue this path". Next season, FK Albrektberg will surely attempt to continue breaking records in Jugland's football history by winning the Juglander Elite League for sixth time in a row, something that was only achieved once, precisely by FK Albrektberg when they won seven titles in a row between 1996-2002.

The season is not over, however, as AC Albrektberg will have to play the relegation/promotion playoffs, which will decide the last team in the 2022/2023 Juglander Elite League.

Mktvartvelo: Government to remove restrictions on emigration

Mktvartvelo's National Assembly voted, by a 321-207 vote to lift remaining restrictions on emigration. Under the new legislation, economic or penal penalties for violation of the law will be completely suspended on Mkatatve 3rd, that is, at the end of next week.

Aka Goglidze, Minister for Immigration Policy, declared to be satisfied with the wide majority that passed this legislation. However, she declared that the government does not expect that the legislation would have a meaningful impact on emigration, as such restrictions were mostly already lifted in practice, particularly since the new government took office, Goglidze argued after the law was passed.

Civil rights groups have praised the legislation, although some have argued that the legislation will have a limited impact for those residents who have not citizenship status, calling the government to give more necessary steps in that direction.

Mktvartvelo: National government denies reports regarding MCUR

Prime Minister Bidzina Samkharadze denied information that the Mktvartvelo government was considering to put a motion in the National Assembly to sign and ratify the "Mundus Convention on Universal Rights".

"I can express with certitude that we have been quite honest and transparet regarding our agenda and views as a government", Prime Minister Samkharadze declared. "There has not been a change in our general policy and such reports are not true. We have not changed our position".

Samkharadze argued that such controversy, by both of those supporting and opposing to ratify the treaty is rather sterile. "Most, if not all, of the rights listed in said convention are already recognized and protected, and in some case beyond the convention itself, already in the legislation and basic laws of the Unitary State of Mktvartvelo", he argued.

The Prime Minister assured that the government is focused to advancing deeper reforms and expanding the rights of the Mktvartvelian people in coming legislation and government policy. He also expressed his conviction that that recent reforms, such as the lifting of emigration restrictions or the reform of labour representation is not likely to face opposition from the Council of State or the Brzdmstveli.

Order of Simartlea's Supreme Priestess addresses same-sex marriage controversy

Recent rumours that Prime Minister Bidzina Samkharadze is debating a bill which would legalize same-sex marriage, despite it has not been confirmed yet, has led to an increasing debate in Mktvartvelian society, including religious organizations and institution.

The Order of Simartlea (largest and national religion in Mktvartvelo) seems not to be different and Sinatdedopali Tsiuri Kavsadze (the head of the Order of Simartlea, whose title can also be translated as "Supreme Priestess") visited where she attended the General Assembly of the Order, a consultative body formed by priestesses, magistrates, and laymen representatives, in which she addressed this and other topics.

Kavsadze declared that she received communication from priestesses and communities around the country in the last weeks about this topic, and that was the reason, after some consideration, to address the issue in this particular context. "It must be important to recognize that marriage is a personal, social, and communal institution, and marriage from the point of view of the law and from the point of view of religious ceremony are two separate things", she argued.

"Our role is to assist families and to mediate between the men and the gods", the Sinatdedopali said, in reference to the clergy. "Our order has shown a consistent balance between flexibility and tradition. These times are not different. After serious considerations with some of the most experienced scholars and magistrates of our order, the Supreme Commitee, and my experience and judgement has led me to agree, this discussion does not pose a serious problem from a religious point of view".

The Sinatdedopali, however, was clear that this official position should not understood as endorsement of any policy or political position. "It is our role to guide our communities regarding ceremonial and communal issues. However, as any other legislation debated in the parliament or in the courts, there will be certainly many positive and negative arguments, from political, ethical, economic, sociological, psychological, etc. perspectives. That is outside the scope of our role". Regarding religious courts, she insisted that there will not be a final official document before there are official legal changes.

However, the Sinatdedopali argued that such flexibility and understanding can not turn into a denaturalization and perversion of the religious ceremonies and traditions. "In our tradition", she argued, "marriage is both a personal and social union, which unique role and function is centered toward purification and fertility...It is not up to us to change or reform the nature of our sacred ceremonies and rites, but to guide and perform according to the function and purpose that has been transmitted and respected from generation to generation". Therefore, the Sinatdedopali seemed to endorse the position that religious ceremonies will only be invovled where there are brides involved, excluding male same-sex marriages. She also opently rebutted those calling for ritual changes regarding animal cruelty. "As important as perform our duty in accordance to tradition and our sacred role is to avoid losing the meaning of such adherence and consistency. Modern life has become so sanitized that we are detached from nature", she added. "We can not turn on life on its head to a point where we feel disgusted about it in itself. All things are connected and we can not escapate this natural flow. Our role is both to mediate with the supernatural and remind ourselves of our belonging to this natural and sacred circle".

"Luxury Pyramid" inaugurated in Azavrelia

Brzdmstveli Ketevan attended this morning to the inauguration of the Tsarmatebebili Building, a shopping mall located in Azavrelia, Mktvartvelo's largest city. The building is a part of a public-private joint initiative aimed to develop and invigorate the nearby area and the local economy.

The Tsarmatebebili Building is located in the Ketildgheoba District, northwestern Azavrelia, nearby the Golden Villa which will host international athletes if the Mundus Games were hold in Mktvartvelo. The building is a 65-metre-high pyramid, with a stained glass apex and windows, and with a total surface of 28,000 m2. The Tsarmatebebili Building will host more than fifty retailers, most of them luxury brands, cafes and restaurants, a 22-screen cinema, several games room, as well as an aquarium and underwater zoo. The mall will also host several charity shops as well.

Deputy Prime Minister for State Administration Anzor Papuashvili and current mayor Shalva Virsaladze also attended the inauguration. Around the building, there will be a large park, known as Okrosperi Gardens. It is also planned that a kindergarten, a haunted house, and an interactive children-sized theme park, as well as two religious temples, will be built in the surrounding area as well.

Mktvartvelo: Electoral reform faces challenges

Veriko Gaprindashvili, Minister of Administrative Affairs, has addressed concerns her proposed reform of the electoral law. She rejected criticism about alleged lack of communication with other members of the cabinet or trying to turn this legislative project into a "personal project", as leading newspaper "Khma" wrote in a recent editorial article.

Gapridashvili, instead, argued that her ministry was enthrusted to prepare the legislation by Prime Minister Bidzina Samkharadze himself, and in cooperation with other ministries such as the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of State, or even the Ministry of Public Order and Security. She declared that the reform will be able to be introduced and passed in the National Assembly before the end of the present year.

However, Deputy Prime Minister for State Administration Anzor Papuashvili recently declared that, although "I have total confidence regarding Minister Gaprindashvili", such important legislation would "obviously require deep and balances discussions not only between our working group, but the cabinet as a whole". Papuashvili has also declared that he has held positive conversations with the Minister of Administrative Affairs for open coordination with Speaker Kintsurashvili to advance negotiations with some non-government MPs once a new draft of the legislation is discussed by the cabinet.

According to Gapridashvili, the legislation will aim to a simplification of the electoral law, particularly abolishing or reducing voting restrictions to unmarried citizens. Gapridashvili has also been open to lift restrictions on campaigning, more simple but effective rules on funding for electoral candidates, and establishing the right for candidates to hold office in non-government political organizations. However, she has been clear that the legislation will not attempt to replace or amend legislation on the National Assembly, therefore the reform will not impact current rules regarding parliamentary activity.

Azavrelia 2022 to host the Mundus Games

Brzdmtsveli Ketevan addressed the nation after Azavrelia candidacy was elected to host the 2022 Mundus Games. "Today, it can only be a day of joy and pride", she declared. "This is certainly a history day for our nation in the field of sports, as our people will be both witness and protagonist in one of the most beautiful sporting and social events of the world.

"As I said before", she continued, "I was hopeful because I was always convinced that our candidacy was the best one, from a technical and professional point of view. But our strength was beyond the professionalism and the effort of the team that has led this candidacy, it was certainly intangible. It was just not the candidacy of one of the most unique and dynamic cities of this continent, but that a whole nation was behind it, with their hopes and their dreams, and this was recognized". The Mktvartvelian head of state expressed her conviction that the games will have a positive and definitive impact in the future of the sports as both social and cultural event, and expressed her gratitude and recognition to the organizing committee, Mktvartvelo's sports federations, the volunteers and Minister Arakishvili as well. "Their tireless and serious effort can only have the gratitude of all us".

"Still", she added, "I understand that decisions like this are not always an easy choice. I understand that they may be disappointed, but I can only congratulate the team behind the other candidady. They worked hard for doing the best and we could see that they did an excellent job. I'm sure that one day the people of Clysperis will be as fortunate and happy as we are today, if they continue with this path".

"Now", he finished, "a grand moment awaits Azavrelia, as well as the other locations which will host the Games, and all our nation behind them. Unity and passion was the main forces behind this candidacy, and it will be soon time to bring this collective and formidable adventure into action, as both a celebration and a success. We are ready to show the best of our culture and our nation, as well as our people, to welcome everyone into our open, dynamic, and tolerant culture, but unique and proud as well. Come one and all, and let's celebrate this Mundus Games!".

Renmin University: Jugland, most democratic place in Mundus

According to the 2022 Democracy Index, compiled and published by World Studies department at Renmin University and The Democracy Daily Newspaper, Jugland scored as the most democratic country/territory in Mundus, followed by countries such as the Holy Empire of Achkaerin, the Kingdom of Tytor, as well as the nation known as The Democracy, where Renmin University is located. According to the research, Jugland obtained a perfect score in categories such as "electoral process", "civil liberties", and "democratic political culture".

On the other hand, mainland Mktvartvelo obtained a score leaving them more than one point behind Jugland, 7th overall, as well as behind in every category established by the index in comparison.

"Obviously, we do not work with such indexes in mind", Vice-president Grimwaldyna Nygaard declared, "but to provide the highest standards, happiness, and quality of life to our fellow citizens. But it is still nice that our work, which is the naturally the result of the work of our representatives, our democratic institutions, the media, the civil society, and our citizens as a whole, is recognized beyond our borders. We must be proud what we have built together but there is still a lot of work to do in order to improve".

For his part, Secretary Takashi Hirano, while declaring that such ranking is "only an anecdote", hoped that, along the coming Mundus Games, such news will hope to attract interests toward our lands and result in an increase in tourists as well as cultural exchange.

Mktvartvelo: New workers' union announced in Sachkhumi congress

Several union federations and industrial unions gathered last weekend in Sachkhumi, northeastern Mktvartvelo. The Extraordinary Labour Congress, as it was named, gathered hundreds of delegates from several working organizations. The Confederation of Professional Unions (MPKG), largest union in Mktvartvelo until the merger of National Labour Union (SEK) and Federation of Industrial Organizations Majority Group (SOP-UJ) to establish the All-Mktvartvelian Labour Union (SMSK) in 2020, contributed the largest number of delegates and representatives to the extraordinary congress.

A clear and overwhelming majority of the delegations agreed to sign a 61-point manifesto, in which they announced to merge into a new joint union organization, aimed to become the largest union in Mktvartvelo. The agreement would involve the dissolution of the MPKG, which was until today an umbrella organization of 14 industrial unions rather than a centralized organization, and the creation of an united organization under a common leadership. Only one of the industrial unions which formed part of MPKG, the Federation of Railway and Transport Union (RDTG) disagreed and will opt to establish a different organization by their own.

The new organization will be named as Confederation of Workers and Independent Professionals (MDPK), and it is estimated that it will have more than 4 million members. Lasha Losaberidze, who previously served as  Deputy Chairman of the MPKG from 2012 to 2019, was appointed as General Secretary of the MDPK at least until the organization first congress.

Unlike the All-Mktvartvelian Labour Union (SMSK), which amended their plaftform two months ago embracing "the promotion of politicial equality, constitutionalism and secularism" as official ideology, the MDPK leadership and the Extraordinary Labour Congress established that they will remain a "non-partisan and apolitical organization". The MDPK also established that representatives in their Executive Committee and National Bureau (the most important executive bodies of the new organization) will not be allowed to stand as political candidates in national or local elections (the rule, however, will not apply for members of the Labour Council, a consultative body which is expected to be elected in their first congress).

It is not clear the impact the new organization may have, although supporters of the merger have argued that they are hopeful that it will improve the negotiation force of workers. About 21% of workers in Mktvartvelo belong to a trade union. Since the Basic Law of Financial and Labour Code, passed in 1954, the unions have generally avoided the use of strikes as economic and political weapons, as disputes are usually settled by arbitration. Large unions provide insurance service to their members, between other services. Around 51% of workers in Mktvartvelo are under collective bargaining coverage between unions and enterprises. Workplace representation takes place in the labour councils, with working elections in companies larger than 50 workers held once a year.

As a general rule, a civil litigation has to be preceded by a conciliation attempt before a arbitration authority, which generally appears to be well suited to conciliation, both because of the personal involvement of the parties and because of the fact that evidence is often based on documents and contracts (without the need for expert opinions or a long discovery phase). The conciliation hearing, at which the parties (with few exceptions) have to appear in person, must take place within two months of the date on which the application was received by the conciliation authority. If the parties fail to reach an agreement during the conciliation proceedings, the conciliation authority grants an "authorization to proceed", allowing the claimant to file the action in court within three months. Conciliation proceedings usually last between a few weeks and a few months. Only between that time, before a final legal rule is established, strikes are allowed under Mktvartvelo's labour legislation.

Legal scholars and political commentators have warned that an increasing competitiviness with highly concentrated membership around the two largest union may increase litigation and protests. However, a representative from the Business Ombudsman Bureau of Mktvartvelo's Chambers of Industry and Commerce (SSPBB), largest business organization in Mktvartvelo, attended the congress and declared that his organization hopes to find "common ground and good will" with the new organization.

Juglander cycling team preparing for Mundus Games

The Juglander men's national cycling team moved to Azavrelia province, where they will train for five days, as well as examining some of the roads where the coming Mundus Games ITT and Road Race is going to take place.

The Juglander team will be comprised in Germund Strand, Mainio Salminen, Kimmo Peltonen, Asketyll Omdahl, Snorr Gunvaldsen, and Lars Aaltonen.

Ealdwyn Tomstad, director of Jugland's national cycling team, declared that they are confident about the chances but it will not be easy. "The end may be softer", he declared, "but it will be a tough race, and it is expected that it will be important movements in the peloton even in the first kilometres of the races".

However, such unpredictable race may actually help the Juglander team, Tomstad believes. "Our riders have had a good season, and half of them are used to work together", he declared. While he did not offer any clue about the strategy of the team, he hinted that the team will not have a clear leader this time. Despite this, Kimmon Peltonen, the strongest Juglander rider last season, showed his strenght two weeks ago, when he won the Juglander national championship, after a slightly disappointing season with his team.

Lars Aaltonen, the youngest rider in the team, will be the only Juglander rider who has never been part of the Juglander national team.

Meanwhile, the directors of the Juglander women's national cycling team also announced the list of riders for the Mundus Games. The Juglander women's team will be formed by Fryda Andersen, Veronika Chayka, Emma Asserssen, Eveliina Makela, Deorwyna Haugdahl, and Thora Bjerknes. Sygnyr Mydland and Lenza Sverdrup will join the team as reservers. On the other hand, Ragna Knudsen will only participate in the Mountain Bike race instead.

Mktvartvelo: Same-sex marriage to be debated in National Assembly

Prime Minister Bidzina Samkharadze announced that his government will introduce the Fairness and Equality Act into the National Assembly. The legislation, between other provisions, would legalize same-sex marriage in Mktvartvelo.

The legislation, Samkharadze explained, will not have the support of the cabinet as a whole, and those ministers with a seat in the parliament will have the right to a free vote. It will be Minister of Justice Veriko Kochladze, instead of the Prime Minister or Deputy Prime Minister for State Administration Anzor Papuashvili, who will address the bill to the National Assembly.

Still, the Prime Minister praised Kochiadze for her efforts for bringing together both government and parliamentary representatives aiming to build a fairer society through reducing discrimination for gender or sexual orientation.

The bill is supported by LGBT organizations and unions like the All-Mktvartvelian Labour Union (SMSK). However, others have criticized that Prime Minister Samkharadze is willing to waste political capital this early while deeper reforms have been only able to advance more slowly. Despite this, the government seems convinced that they will able to pass important legislation in the coming months.

Mutual Insurance Company to buy nationwide television channel

Ormkhrivoba Society, a company owned by a leading mutual insurance company in Mktvartvelo, announced that it will be acquring 25% of the shares of Channel 9, Mktvartvelo second most viewed nationwide television channel. As a result, Ormkhrivoba Ertianoba will become the largest shareholder of the television channel, as they control an additional 15%, as they are also the largest shareholder of Sakhliertad Ltd., a real estate company which had become a Channel 9 shareholder in 2018.

Ormkhrivoba Ertianoba, established in 1938, is a mutual insurance company which is mostly involved in the management of insurance regarding contigency plans, workplace accidents, and professional illness, particularly in relations from funds from the State Social Security. The society is also widely known for their management of Mktvartvelo's main charity lottery ticket known throughout Mktvartvelo as "Kargi Bedi". Sales of this lottery product are the main source of income for Ormkhrivoba Eertianoba and which carry huge tax-exempt cash prizes.

It is not the first time that the mutuality company has invested in media, however. Through Ormkhrivoba Society, it also owns two local newspapers, Khashumi and Abakha, and Ormkhrivoba Ertianoba also owns a 33% of Ertoblivi Sazogadoeba Ltd, which owns Gamdzleoba radio station since 2019. In a written statement, the company has declared that they "are hopeful after this investment, which we hope that improve the visibility and promotion of the central values that centers the action of our society".

However, critics have expressed doubts about the effect of that investment, giving that a large source of revenue for the society comes from a state licence, which the company operates what some have described as a state monopoly of the national charity, which may pose doubts about the political independence of the company from the national government. A year ago, it already caused an important controversy when Gocha Iashvili, considered the most popular radio host in Mktvartvelo, left MAAR FM to sign a 900 million per year contract with Gamdzleoba radio station, that some media companies described as "completely outside the market".

For some, such as Revaz Urzuladze, deputy editor-in-chief for Akheli Ambebi, a right-leaning newspaper, the announced buying by Ormkhrivoba Society is not a coincidence. "One has to be really stupid that this a clear attempt by [Prime Minister Bidzina] Samkharadze and his promotors to control and reform the media landscape at their will". He argued that recent rumours about the government's plan to launch two licences for nationwide private television channels, and in particular the rumour that the Sakin Media Group, which owns the liberal-leaning Dazverva newspaper, is well-positioned to acquire one of them, could be described as an attempt to build a "media network formed by a left-wing media empire in cooperation by media controlled by the government to silence and marginalize those critics of the actions of the government".

A spokesperson for Ormkhrivoba Society has declared that such arguments "are so absurd and ludicrous" to be taken seriously. "If one thing that our investment in the media sector have contributed", he argued, "is to establish a consolidate a policy of tolerance and professionalism". He also declared that they are hopeful that they "along of the other investors and the professionals of the channel" aim to consolidate and increase and consolidate "the prestige and popularity" of Channel 9 as a quality and diverse television channel.

Freedom Party elects new leadership

The Freedom Party, fifth largest political party in Jugland's Legislative Assembly, held today its 6th National Convention since the political party was established in 1999. The national convention was as highly expected as uncertain, giving the internal crisis the Freedom Party was facing in the last months when Free Alternative, a faction of the party, left the party, with increasingly worse predictions for the Freedom Party in recent polls.

The Freedom Party was established as a libertarian and socially liberal political party by late Ragnbjorg Herbjornsrud. Since 2011, after Herbjornsrud's death, the party had been led by Faramund Stubberud. While the Freedom Party obtained ten seats in the Legislative Assembly in 2020, and has held the local government in Midtenstadt under mayor Hubert Ibsen since 2014, the Freedom Party has failed to be elected in State Governorate elections.

The National Convention aimed to elect a new leadership, as well as consider amends and changes in the party's platform, as well as voting national resolutions. Hubert Ibsen, mayor of Midtenstadt, was expected to be the favourite candidate as new leader of the Freedom Party. However, one of the surprises of the evening was confirmed when it was announced that former journalist and writer Erwyn Moen had defeated Ibsen to be elected President of the Freedom Party. Ibsen was the most voted candidate in the first round, but in the final runoff, he was defeated 57% to 43% by Moen.

The unexpected election of Moen, who has been a member of the Legislative Assembly since 2016, as new leader was ultimately shadowed, by a controversial amend to the Freedom Party's National Platform, brought forward by the political party's youth wing, calling for "true right to self-determination for the Juglander people to democratically decide their own future". The amend was supported by Moen while Ibsen and other candidaters argued that the proposal threatened the party prospects in coming elections. Another amend included a deep reform of the organization of the party toward a more decentralized model, similar to the territorial system in Jugland, in which members of the National Committee of the Freedom Party will be elected by the local subdivisions and not through nationwide primaries in the National Convention. However, this change will be only effective in the next National Convention, and the current leadership was elected by a majority of the National Convention.

The National Convention also voted for several resolutions on social and economy policy. One of the most controversial ones was the introduction of universal basic income for all Juglander adults, "aimed to increase the freedom of choice", according to its proponents, which will replace existing welfare programs and government investment in education and healthcare. However, such national resolutions approved by the National Convention, unlike amends, are not bidding and the new leadership is only required to consider and debate them, but not required to adopt them as official policy of the party.

The festival was organized by teachers and students from the last school year alike, and included conferences with educators and scholars, music and theatre performances by former students in the school, as well as a wellcoming event for future students, and finally a charity dinner at the end of the festival. All the revenue collected in the festival will be destined to causes organized by Dabasamkhret Charity Fund, which owns the school, including grants for students and free tutoring for young girls from low income families.

Mktvartvelo: Same-sex marriage legislation passed in National Assembly

While the Fairness and Equality Act failed to get the support of half of the National Assembly, it was passed by a 291-269 majority. The legislation will legalize same-sex marriages in the Unitary State of Mktvartvelo, as well as establishing several provisions and clauses against discrimination for gender, race, religion, or sexual orientation.

The result of the vote, with more uncertainty than expected, was celebrated by pro-LGBT and civil rights groups. Minister Veriko Kochladze declared the reform "a legislation that moves our country forward, strengthening the equality of all citizens".

Prime Minister Bidzina Samkharadze, as well as other members of the government, abstained from the vote. Lado Gugashvili, deputy editor-in-chief of Akheli Ambebi newspaper, wrote that "we found criticism for our position, but we have witnessed how this divisive legislation failed to convince the own government".

The legislation will be now debated in the Council of State (Mktvartvelo's Upper House of the parliament), although it is not expected that there will be a clear majority to veto the legislation. If the legislation is either amended or rejected by a simple majority, the National Assembly will have to vote for a second time for the legislation. Minister Kochladze, however, declared that she is hopeful that the legislation will be backed by a larger majority if that was the case.

According to a recent poll, about 66% of the population approves same-sex marriage in Mktvartvelo. Eteri Burchadze, a representative from Siqvaruli Qvelasatvis, a leading LGBT organization, declared "it is a first step, but we are hopeful that this path will find a successful resolution".

Mktvartvelo: Railways liberalization announced

Zviad Kotrikadze, Minister of Public Works and Transport, has announced that the government will introduce plan toward the liberalization of the train sector. Kotrikadze has described that the reform aims to improve the efficiency and competitiveness of the railway sector in Mktvartvelo, through the removing institutional, legal and technicall obstacles to private companies.

The liberalization process will include the passing of the Railways Modernization Act, which aims to reform the estructure and organization of Mktvartvelian State Railways Authority (MSRK). The reform will set March 1st as the start date for new railway companies to start transporting passengers by rail using long-distance and high-speed services. From that date, any company with a railway company licence and a safety certificate issued by the MRSK that has submitted an application to the use of railway infraestructure may provide services in competition with the state-owned railways national company.

Kotrikadze, however, has clarified that the government does not plan to privatize the national railways company, which is not currently looking for investors from the private sector and it will remain a state-owned company. He also announced state investment in three new railway corridors which, allows other reforms introduced in Railways Modernization Act, will aim to an increase of the capacity of the railways services by an average of 60%.

Mktvartvelo: Religious courts to suspend their activities

Mktvartvelo's Ministry of Justice has announced that religious courts in the country will be closed for four weeks. Minister of Justice Veriko Kochladze declared that the decision will be only temporary and motivated for administrative reasons.

It is expected that religious courts will be reopened on Mosavalisi 8 (late August). Kochladze declared that the decision is not expected to affect current cases, as they will continue their planned activity after that date.

The Association of Families and Relatives has criticized the decision, as it is likely to affect hundreds of cases and families without previous warning, although declared that the courts wil be reopened at the day announced without more incidences.
