Nordansk FK advances to Juglander Cup final

Nordansk FK, the top club from Nordheim, continued tonight with their excellent season, defeating Ngeingta IF 1-2 away and qualifying to the Juglander Cup final.

Nordansk FK currently leads the Elite Football League -the top professional league's in men's football- with five points ahead of their main rivals, FK Albrektberg, with only nine matches to end the season.

Nordansk FK faced more complications than expected, particularly in the last minutes, against Ngeingta IF, but they hope to continue with current positive shape, and win the "double double", as winning both the league and the Juglander cup is unofficially but famously known.

In the other match of the day, IK Grimborg surprisingly defeated SK Albrektberg with a goal in the extra-time to win 2-1. IK Grimborg will face Nordansk FK in the final, which is expected to be an unbalanced match, as IK Grimborg currently plays in Juglander men's second division. IK Grimborg and their fans are living a daydream season in the Juglander Cup, as their defeated FK Albrektberg -the other favourites to the title- in the fourth round, and SK Midtenstadt -currently fourth in Elite League- in the previous round. In the domestic league, however, IK Grimborg fans are living a more disappointing season, as they are currently 7th in Second Division, seven points away of the promotion positions.

It will be the first time since 2002 that a second division club qualifies to the Juglander Cup final. However, both teams will have no option to focus in their domestic leagues in the meantime, as the Juglander Cup final will not be played until after the season Summer halt is finished.

Next weekend, Nordansk FK will visit Mjodde, currently 12th in the Elite Football League, aiming to continue their good spell of the last weeks.

National Council defends federal energy plan

Secretary Burkhardt Kvalheim addressed the National Assembly in a parliamentary debate on energy plicy, which was focused in the role of nuclear energy in the new federal energy plan prepared by the National Council. During the debate, Kvalheim tried to justify and explain the positions of the federal government on the issue, as well as answering questions about international cooperation in this field.

During his intervention, Secretary Kvalheim praised Rokkenjiman government for their role in the collective disarmament and removal nuclear technology for military means, and while defending the safety of nuclear technology for civilian purposes, he assured that Juglander government will be ready to offer cooperation with international community, either directly with foreign government or through international agencies such as the M.A.E.A. and others.

However, Kvalheim gave assurances that the Federal Union of Jugland is not likely to become a signatory of the recently relaunched Mundus Atomic Energy Agency, at least for now, quoting "minor differences on organizational principles".

Secretary Kvalheim had the most heated exchange of words with Emmeline Kolseth, the MP from the Green Party, who criticized the federal government policy for "adopting an expensive plan to relaunch nuclear energy in Jugland...which had become obsolete and non operative" instead of investing and researching other sources of energy.

Fryda Andersen wins Nordheim cycling race

Juglander cyclist Fryda Andersen (Brannkvinner-Amvkhar) won the GP Nordheim-Kannberg, a semi-professional women's cycling race.

It was the second win this season for the three-time champion of the Jugland's National Championship Individual Time-Trial race.

Fryda Andersen confirmed that she will participate in the 2021 Jugland's Ladies Tour, which will start next week after it was relaunched this year after eight years of absence. It is not clear, however, which role will play Andersen in her team, as she previously assisted her teammate Emma Asserssen in previous races.

Although her team has failed to win any international or continental race this season so far, Andersen is confident that their luck may change next week. "It won't be easy for sure", she commented, "but we will try our best".

Honey Farm Campaign starts

The National Council, in cooperation with the state government of Austland, has launched the "Honey Farm Campaign", aiming to recover the bees and wild bees population in the Juglander eastern state.

The loss of a large number of the population of said species in Austland, as consequence of a recent environmental disaster, is believed to have an already noteworthy on the local ecosystem as well as agriculture production. The campaign hopes to reduce or at least ameliorate those effects, and restore balance in the local ecosystem, particularly in the recognized natural parks in the state.

Thousands of beekeepers, volunteers, and scientists have been mobilized for the campaign.

Away teams take the lead in Women's SuperCup semifinals

While Leverheim SK is not living their best moment in the Women's First Division, being the bottom team with only three wins in fifteen matches, and likely condemned to fight to avoid relegation for the rest of the season, they gave their fans a bit of happiness, at least for the moment, as they are closed to qualify to the Women's SuperCup final -the second most important soccer title in Jugland-, as they defeated 0-2 to the modest Fjellstad SK.

Meanwhile, in the other match of the Women's SuperCup semifinals, Albrektberg FD defeated Nordheim SK away 1-2.

The teams will see again in a few weeks, after the season break for the Mundus Games, to decide the two teams which will reach the Women's SuperCup final.

Jugland's Ladies Tour ends with final stage in Amvkhar

Deorwyna Haugdahl could not keep the pink jersey in the last stage of the Jugland's Ladies Tour, although she was able to save the situation and keep her place in the final podium, finishing second in the general classification, two minutes and three seconds behind the overall winner of the Jugland's Ladies Tour, Uzna Dzhalali (Ednotnost).

Fryda Andersen (Brankvinner) was close to win the stage, but she was defeated in the final metres by Laura Trots (Roll Out-EMAC), who was able to put the cap on her team great performance on the stage, which contribute to give the East Morelander team the win of the Team classification. The win allowed her to win the Points classification. Danielle Roe, who finished fifth in the stage, was able to reach the last position in the podium.

Thora Bjerkness (Brannkvinner) was another of the local surprises, winning one stage -the only stage win by a Juglander rider- and the Youth classification.

The organizers of the Jugland's Ladies Tour declared to be satisfied, both with the participation and the support that the cyclist race received.

Jugland wins first gold in Mundus Games

Kimmo Peltonen won the cycling road race in the Mundus Games, giving Jugland the first gold medal in cycling ever, and the first gold medal in the 2021 Mundus Games.

Although he was not between the main favourites, Peltonen made it into the unexpected breakaway along other two Juglander riders, and after a second attack, he was able to cross the finish in solitary to win the gold. "I didn't expect to win because I knew it was going to be a hard day, as it was", an exhausted Peltonen declared after crossing the line, "however, I had faith in ours as a team and I can only thank the rest of the team for their efforts today...I dedicate this victory to my family and the all people who believed in me during these years".

Germund Strand, who also finished fifth, declared to be disappointed for not being able to fight for a second medal for the country, although described to be "delighted and happy" for Peltonen's win. "This is a historical day for Jugland's cycling", he added.

It was a more than positive day for Jugland Mundus Games team, as Jugland also obtained wins in the early rounds of football, beach volleyball, and badminton.

Political crisis over environmental disaster continues

Members of the state assembly in Austland have demanded the resignation of Secretary Burkhardt Kvalheim, for the involvement of the Engelsaas administration, in which Kvalheim served as Minister of Foreign Affairs, in the Austland environmental crisis. At least three members of the Engelsaas administration have been charged for the involvement of the armed forces in the fumigation of banned chemicals during a health crisis in the region. However, both Kvalheim and Engelsaas, as other members of the Provisional Government, have denied any involvement or knowledge of such operation.

At least six members of the National Democratic Party in Austland signed the petition asking for Kvalheim resignation. However, Governor Wighardt Bergersen, also a National Democratic Party official, did not join this petition, instead called to "allow the justice system to do its work without political interference". This argument did not seem to convince these critics, which insisted in calling for a new federal government without Reform Movement representatives.

They had joined opposition lawmakers in Midtenstadt, who had previously called for Kvalheim resignation.

It is not expected that such proposal are going to be successful, however, at least for now. A spokesperson of the National Council insisted that they are waiting for the independent and parliamentary commission to finish the conclusion, along the judicial investigation of the case, before taking any political decision. "In any case", the spokesperson insisted, "the 2021 agreement" -in reference in the political agreement that established the current federal coalition in the National Council- "stands independently from any political responsibilities may be necessary in the future, in reference to this case or any other that may appear".

The Juglander team defeated Bakkermaya 72-69, in a final quarter which was as balanced and exciting as marked by mistakes and defensive play. The best Juglander player was Brynja Stubb who scored 19 points and gave 8 assists.

"There is still much the team must do", coach Amala Soini explained, "but we give another step for our aim. But we need to improve our external play for the next match if we want to continue. But it won't be easy".

Mainio Salminen gave Jugland a fourth gold medal in cycling, the fifth for the Juglander delegation, after winning the Men Individual Time Trial cycling event.

Salminen proved intratable, particularly in the last ten kilometres, and won the race by 34 seconds.

The women's individual time trial cycling race gave Jugland another two medals, as Thora Bjerknes and Fryda Andersen obtained the silver and bronze medals, respectively.

Thora Bjerkness, who already proved her competitiveness against the clock in the Jugland's Ladies Tour, as she won the only individual time trial stage, finished second only twenty-eight seconds behind winner Achkaerin's Sammy Lawson. Fryda Andersen struggled in the last kilometres and ended one minute and twenty-five seconds behind Lawson, in some agonic final metres as she saved the bronze medal by only five seconds.

Sports: Surprising contender in football Women's SuperCup

Second Division Fjellstad SK qualified to Women's SuperCup final after defeating away the First Division Leverheim SK by 2-4.

The club from Leverheim had won by 0-2 in the first match in Fjellstad. However, they were able of an unexpected comeback in a chaotic match.

Despite being unable to control the match in the first half, Leverheim SK seemed to assure their pass to the final, thanks to the result obtained in Fjellstad. However, following a combination of mistakes by the local defenders, Tina Vanhanen scored the 1-3 in the minute 67, and her teammate Roza Aalto scored five minutes later in a counterattack. SK Leverheim were able to keep the pressure against the rival the rest of the match, but they were unable to scored the final 2-4 until the last minute of the match.

The joy of the away team contrasted with the local teams, as the result leaves the local team with a wasted chance to win their first official title and facing a sport crisis, as they are currently fighting to avoid relegation in the football league.

SK Fjellstad will face Albrektberg FD -which won 2-1 both matches against Nordheim SK- in the Women's SuperCup final.

Ketevan II announces official tour on national territory, including Jugland

Brzdmtsveli Ketevan Chakhava, who has taken the official title of Brzdmtsveli Ketevan II, has confirmed her first scheduled tour since she was elected head of state of the Unitary State of Mktvartvelo.

She will visit Azavrelia, Martvilisi, Abakha, Lagotsminda, and Sachkhumi, as well as the Free Territory of Jugland, during the next weeks. She will become the second Mktvartvelian head of state to visit Jugland, following late Brzdmtsveli Tamaz IV visit in 2006.

Her election has brought a moderate expectation in liberal circles in Mktvartvelo because of her academic background and her professional experience. Unlike Brzdmstveli Tamaz IV, for example, she is seen as someone that is likely to know the reality of businesses from inside, not merely as someone who was involved in the family business. Although more ambiguous pages have been written in Mktvartvelo on her genealogy (being a descendant of Brzdmstveli Malkhaz IV and the more controversial Brzdmstveli Tamara I), her lack of any political role in the past have attracted more the curiosity and the hopes of the Mktvartvelian public.

Still, it is not clear her future role in Mktvartvelian politics, and at what extent he may influence and determine the policy of the Unitary State of Mktvartvelo. For now, it seems likely that Prime Minister Gela Berdzenishvili, who has been Prime Minister since 2014, will continue heading the Council of Minister at least until the coming national elections, which will be held in late February (in the last week of the year in Mktvartvelian Calendar). It is expected that the survival of the current administration may be decided in that election (in which, besides local and regional elections, 120 seats of the National Assembly and 11 seats in the Council of State are up to election), even if the parliament has not the power to appoint the Prime Minister.

Ketevan II visits Jugland for first time

Ketevan II finished what was described her "inauguration tour" with a visit to the Free Autonomous Territory of Jugland. During her visit, that included stops in Albrektberg, Midtenstadt and Sandheim, she met with members of the State Governorate [Jugland's regional government] as well as members of the civil society and religious representatives.

It was the second visit of a Mktvartvelo's head of state to Jugland since 2006. Local sources described the visit as "constructive" and "friendly". However, the nature and atmosphere of the visit have felt very different than the previous one sixteen years ago.

Besides a passing reference to a celebrating the historical moment of the fulfillment of the recovery of Mktvartvelo's sovereignty over Jugland, there were neither any reference to the political settlement and local institutions, nor an announcement of a change of policy regarding the territory in the Brzdmtsveli's public speech. A source close to the State Governorate described that the Brzdmtsveli seemed particularly interested in urban development plans and cultural projects, and policy issues were mostly absent during the conversations with political representatives and local officials. Most of local media outlets have expressed their ease on such descriptions, understanding it as an endorsement of the status quo. However, it should be noted that it could be also a consequence that the electoral campagin for national elections will start later this week, and therefore the Brzdmtsveli may wish to abstain from any declaration that could be understood as an attempt to influence the campaign or result of the election.

It is expected that Brzdmtsveli Ketevan II will have a more relaxed agenda in the coming weeks, until New Year, with the only exception in her planned participation in the pilgrimage to the Shrine of Dalotsvili Shadrevani and the Temple of Tskhenosani, a tradition which started in 1931, although it became much rarer during the reign of Brzdmtsveli Tamaz IV.

2022 Juglander Cup starts

Nanko FC did not find much opposition against SK Nordheim.

Juglander Cup, Jugland's second most important championship in men's football, started with few surprises. The cup, established in 1922, is the oldest football championship in Jugland, is played by the top 16 clubs in Jugland. Since its foundation, the competition has been a knockout tournament in two-legged rounds.

The current champions are Nordansk FK, which despite this historical success, winning their first official trophy in their history, were relegated from the Jugland Elite League (Jugland top division in men's football) as they finished 7th.

FK Sandberg defeated SK Stromendalen 1-0, in one of the matches between Elite League clubs. FK Sandberg, certainly one of the favourites to the title, faced opposition for their rivals and were only able to score in a penalty kick. The biggest surprise on the night was First Division SK Haugefjord, as the other club from Sandberg defeated 1-0 to AC Albrektberg.

Meanwhile, EMAC Albrektberg won SK Midtenstadt away by 1-2, showing the poor situation of the Midtenstadt club, as they are currently 7th in the league with only one win in eight matches. Despite the result and their situation in the league, this did not seem to show in the pitch, in which SK Midtenstadt controlled the game during most of it. However, clear mistakes in their defense line proved decisive, and SK Midtenstadt will have to improve their effectiveness in Albrektberg to have a chance to advance to the next round.

Most of the matches were quick balanced, with the only exception of Nanko FC win against First Division club SK Nordheim by 1-3, leaving almost everything decided -except a huge surprise- for the second match in Nanko home.

Political uncertainty in Mktvartvelo following legislative election

Gela Berdzenishvili has been Prime Minister of the Unitary State of Mktvartvelo since 2014.

Million of voters in the Unitary State of Mktvartvelo, including Jugland's four towns, were called to vote in this year election. In total, there were 120 of 599 seats in play in the National Assembly, as well as 11 seats to the Council of State (Mktvartvelo's Upper House). While the turnout was not particularly high, although similar than previous legislative elections in Mktvartvelo, despite the atypical political and electoral system in Mktvartvelo to make such predictions before official results are confirmed, it looks like that at least 20 seats which are currently assigned or considered backing or supportive to Prime Minister Gela Berdzenishvili or his administration in the last years.

Regarding the results in the Juglander districts, still awaiting for official reactions, the Progressive Liberal Party seems to have consolidated its position as the largest political party in Jugland, while improving results for the National Democratic Party, as well as the Green Party is expected to enter in the National Assembly for first time with 2-3 expected seats.

Although the survival of the government may depend as much on the political will of the Brzdmtsveli as on the changes in the composition of the parliament, the election of the President of the National Assembly in the coming days is expected to provide a hint on the survival or not of the current administration. After all, the position of the President of the National Assembly has something unique as it is the highest office in Mktvartvelo which is directly elected by the National Assembly, as well as its role in parliamentary negotiations, including proposals to the nomination of the Prime Minister and other officials. The election of the President of the National Assembly is also known for its rule-based nature of nomination of candidates (it is required that a member of the National Assembly to be at least nominated by another twenty members to be an elegible candidate), and for its sometimes unexpected outcome.

Once a President of the National Assembly is elected, which likely will happen in the first session of the parliament, the President of the National Assembly will be meeting with the Prime Minister and the ten most senior members of the parliament, as it is tradition since 1931, before meeting with the Brzdmstveli, to communicate the head of state the results of his query as well as his view on the new political majority that may have been established. While such consultations, as well the political inclinations of the President of the National Assembly, are not binding, it is expected that the country may have a clearer view of the direction of the Coft Aranye nation under Brzdmtsveli Ketevan Chakhava in the coming months.

Prime Minister Gela Berdzenishvili resigns; Brzdmtsveli appoints Bidzina Samkharadze

Bidzina Samkharadze replaces Gela Berdzenishvili after eight years in power.

Following the resignation of Prime Minister Gela Berdzenishvili, the appointment by Brzdmtsveli Ketevan Chakahava of Bidzina Samkharadze as Prime Minister was received with caution but some hopes in pro-reform and liberal-minded circles and media, as Samkharadze has a reputation of being a member of the National Assembly with a record associated to what it is often described as the "Liberal Wing" of the parliament.

A member of the National Assembly since 2008, he has expressed support in the past toward an official register of political parties in Mktvartvelo and open reform of electoral legislation. However, his lack of government experience, as he has not been in the government before, although he has certain renown as both lawmaker and scholar, caused that he was not exactly between the favourites to replace Berdzenishvili as Prime Minister. The election as President of the National Assembly of Ramaz Kintsurashvili, who has a reputation as a moderate and had different government roles in the early 2000s had led to speculation that Berdzenishvili's government would be able to survive despite a slightly disappointing result in the legislative election. But this feeling soon faded away, and Berdzenishvili's premiership, which started in 2014, became to its end.

Only two ministers, Tariel Tavadze and Merab Arakishvili, who had recently joined the government, will continue in the new administration. In his first intervention, Bidzina Samkharadze was rather cautious and vague, although he promised to "bring long-lasting changes and reforms" to Mktvartvelo, it gave the impression that a radical shift from the previous administration may not be expected. Some anaylists has described that, after a first look and despite some promising names, Samkharadze's government may be one of compromise, with a combination of veteran politicians and young lawmakers, including liberal, moderate and right-leaning ministers. On balance, however, it seems that the average age of the ministers will be slighly lower compared to Berdzenishvili's governments. Samkharadze declared that "transparency, proportionality, and justice" will be the three pillars of his government.

One of the most striking names is the inclusion of Anzor Papuashvili, mayor of Azavrelia since 2014, who is rumoured to become one of the five Deputy Prime Ministers (often known as "super-ministers" in Mktvartvelo, for their political influence in the Council of Minister). Zviad Alaverdashvili, a retired military officer, well-known for his criticism on industrial and foreign policiy of Berdzenishvili's government in parliamentary sessions. It is expected that a more clear vision about his government will be announced in Prime Minister Bidzina Samkharadze's first address to the National Assembly tomorrow.

Some residents fear "legal limbo status" after Supreme Court ruling

The Supreme Court of the Unitary State of Mktvartvelo has suspended five articles and six clauses from the Residency Act, a legislation which has been part of Jugland's legal system since 2006. The Supreme Court argued that the repealed articles were contrary to the constitutional order and the Midtenstadt Agreement, which officially established the Free Autonomous Territory of Jugland. The ruling came following a case brought by the National League, a legal organization focused on immigration and law enforcement issues.

The most important consequence of the ruling is the suspension of the Residency Identity Cards issued by the Juglander authorities as a legal and official document. The mentioned identity document is issued by Juglander administration to any legal resident registered in the local census. However, the Supreme Court argues that those documents can not have legal status, as the competences on immigration policy lies on the Ministry for Immigration Policy.

As a result, it is feared that thousands of residents in Jugland, particularly those who moved to the territory after 2006 could face important legal challenges to remain legally in the country, if they fail to legalize their administrative situation. The situation will also affect many minors born in Jugland after 2004, who were automatically granted residency in the territory, after Mktvartvelian citizenship was also offered to those born in Jugland before that date.

Most government officials have been highly critical of the decision, calling for urgent measures to solve the situation. Burkhardt Kvalheim, President of the State Governorate, declared to be confident that a legal alternative will be achieved, declaring that the State Governorate is looking for a way to solve the situation. He has also offered willingness to find a negotiated solution with Mktvartvelian national government to avoid any negative consecuences regarding the rule.

Kvalheim urged calm to those affected, declaring that they "are welcomed and they should not be afraid of their legal status...I promise that a solution is going to be reached soon", he said, trying to calm fears about some residents could be forced to either leave the country or remain in an undocumented situation.

The aerial vehicle was described as an "unique and first purely indigenous" drone developed in Mktvartvelo.

It is expected that Shavrinveli 27 will be produced and incorporated into the Joint Defense Development Program, along with other Parebi Systems products and models.

Shavrinveli 27 is named after a mythical goddess of the same name, well-known for his role in the creation legend in Simartlean religion.

Amazing week for Juglander cycling

Lenza Sverdrup gave a second win to Kommuna Ladies this season with a surprising attack in the final kilometres at the Sachkhumi-Zestomi-Sachkhumi cycling race.

After leaving Zestomi, a large group was formed led by Phoenix Cycling and Higabana teams. "It was a tough day", Sverdrup declaring a few minutes after crossing the finish, "but we knew that the final kilometres were going to be difficult for any team, we needed to resist and wait our chance to come". She declared that her team had trained in these roads, and it helped her and her teammates as many teams did not know these roads.

It was the first professional win for Sverdrup, one of Kommuna Ladies youngest riders. "It's amazing, I still can't believe it. We are so happy, we were highly motivated, of course, but we did not expect to win so soon!", she declared in reference to her teammate Deorwyna Haugdahl, who won the Lacuna Classic a few days ago.

"I knew my rivals did not probably know me but I was confident because I know I'm really explosive and I ride easily with the rain...Still, it still felt so unreal until my team came and they were so happy for me", she confessed. "It feels great, of course, although the next races will be different. The season is long and we want to repeat this moment. It's not my main goal, but I want to be consistent and help our team", Lenza added, as in the previous races she served as domestique for her teammates.

Lenza Sverdrup completed an excellent week for Juglander riders, after the victories of Haughdahl and Asketyll Omdahl (MKT-ZSD) in Lacuna Classic last week. They will certainly to continue with this spell at home, in the coming Albrektberg Classic.
