The Premiership of the Unitary State of Mktvartvelo condemns attack against Christian Orthodox temple yesterday
Prime Minister Gela Berdzenishvili declared that "there is no space in Mktvartvelo's society for those behind such despicable act that aims to violate peaceful existance and social peace between all members of the community", in reference to an attack in Mtrulumi, western Mktvartvelo, in which two incendiary devices were thrown by unidentified assaltants against a church, belonging to the small Christian community in the town, as believers gathered for mass. The temple suffered serious material damages and a number of people, including women and children, required medical assistance.
Prime Minister Berzdenishvili clarified that the government has been contacted with local authorities which are presently conducting the investigation against this crime. He also declared to be pleased that, although eight people required hospitilization, he has been informed that their wounds were not too serious and they are expected to recover without long-term physical damages.
He also announced that although the investigations will be currently in the hands of the local authorities and the judiciary, the central government will assist them, in case that was necessary, so such "cowardly aggression contrary to our fundamental laws" does not end unpunished and the perpetrators face justice.
