QUEEN TO BEGIN "NEW ERA OF DEVELOPMENT"

In her weekly press conference Queen Anne-Marie Van Asch has spoken of the attempt to begin what she described as the nations "New Era of Development". By this she made reference to several dreams to make Zamenhuf a centre of international excellence in a wide number of fields. The Queen stated that the nations history of welcoming people from across the world must be once again turned to the nations advantage. "There was once a time when our people held out a welcome mat for anyone wanting to escape any difficulty in their life. It was a badge of honour for our people and it will be again. The nation of Zamenhuf will have the best educational system, the best health care, the best engineering, any field that exists I want my nation and my people to be considered the best. This will of course be a multi-generational plan starting with me and maybe if all goes well finishing with my grand-children, but it is a mission we will succeed in."

Following the press conference a raft of new policies were announced. Using her power to manage relations with foreign nations to bring about some changes. The first of these was to utilise royal funds to purchase several disused buildings in the capital of Finven which will be converted into Learning Hubs. These will be open to foreign students to learn Esperanto and obtain degrees in a wide range of subjects. Any student considered worthy of these institutes will be admitted and a student visa given so long as they can prove they can fund their studies however the Queen has confirmed that she is asking several major corporations to sponsor positions at the centres therefore it is hoped the vast majority of places can be funded for students. In addition to these new institutes the Queen also confirmed that for any business operating in aerospace, maritime, energy, chemical or computing fields and paying an individual more than E45,000 there will be a simplified and fast track visa system to help them bring in highly skilled staff from across the world.

The Queen also confirmed that she will be visiting several nations in the coming months.[1]

ROMY LOWE NAMED NEW PRIME MINISTER

42 year old former cosmetics mogul Romy Lowe has been named the new leader of the Neo-Liberal Party and as a result will become the nations new Prime Minister. The Neo-Liberal Party currently have a 24 seat majority in the Council of the People and have been the ruling party for the past decade. Miss Lowe joined the party five years ago having been a supporter of the party since joining as a student when aged 19. Her cosmetics business Romlo enabled her to be a major contributor to the parties campaign funds. In 2017 she stood for election herself and won the seat with ease having a 6,200 majority in the town of Harama in Southern Zamenhuf. She served under former Prime Minister Roderic Daubney first as a Buisness Secretary and then later as Chancellor. When Mr.Daubney announced he would be standing down due to ill health. A two way race commenced between Miss Lowe and Gunni Hubert, who will now serve as Deputy Prime Minister. With all party members ranging from student members to the Council membership the new Prime Minister won the race with 61% of the vote. Mr.Daubney having now handed over the reigns will enter hospital for surgery on his liver and will require a lengthy period of rehab, it is not known whether he will return to politics.

Having been to see the Queen the new Prime Minister will be addressing the Council in the morning and has already spoken of the need to support the Queen's "New Era" programme. Prime Minister Lowe spoke to us saying "The nation has a desire to press ahead and one more become a haven for those wanting to enjoy our liberal values. We will be enacting programmes in the coming days to support business to grow and evolve to ensure that we lead the 21st Century in terms of our development. I am confident that our party and the Queen can continue what is an excellent working relationship to make sure we go from strenth to strength.

One of the first policies the new Prime Minister wants to bring in is support for high tech industries, a growth in vocational training within schools and the establishment of a new cultural commission to promote the works of Zamenhufs music, artistic and academic stars. The Prime Minister has also urged to Queen to accelerate the nation forming deeper connections with other nations saying, "Since our nations foundation we have welcomed people from across Mundus who wished for a fresh start for whatever reason. As a nation we have one of the most diverse and interesting populations, some have joined what I would call a melting pot of Zamenhuf society while we still see enclaves of people from across the world. We can tap into these communities and ensure that we have a thriving future on the global stage."

MORELANDER MONARCH TO BE GUEST SPEAKER

Queen Anne-Marie has today confirmed that King David of East Moreland will be this years guest speaker at the graduation of the Amaranta Messana Academy in Zamenhuf. The prestigious school is named after the esteemed 16th Century playwright and author Amaranta Messana who is responsible for writing over 50 plays in their lifetime. The school was set up following their death and has educated many of the royal family since including the Queen herself. Every year those 18 year olds who have completed their studies are given a send off that features a guest speaker. The Queen personally extended an invite to the Morelander monarch saying, "I have read that King David see's education as a great force for good and as such East Moreland have established a healthy network of educational and cultural exchanges. We are a nation that has a great history of cultural enrichment, of seeking out and embracing cultures from afar and I think the East Moreland example is a route I wish to follow. I have great admiration for what King David has achieved in terms of East Moreland's cultural capital and Zamenhuf will soon join them in their ambitions."

It is understood that the Queen is also considering a conference on education during the King's visit. This however has not yet been confirmed.

PRIME MINISTER LOWE PRESENTS "BROTEL UNION" LAW

In one of her first acts since becoming Prime Minister, Romy Lowe has presented a proposed piece of legislation entitled the Act for the Formation of the Union of Brothels. It is a piece of legislation that would support those working in the sex industries licenced brothels. Miss Lowe explained the need for the law. "We have what would politely be called very liberal immigration law. As such we have seen many young ladies from across the globe coming to Zamenhuf in order to work in an industry perceieved as easy to enter. While that is very true it is often not an easy one to get out of. Many of the ladies in that industry are not career workers. They are young girls looking to get out of University debt free or often to support themselves as single mothers. The problem is that we now get workers from places such as Kermah, Lijiang, Zimalia and various other places being, for want of a better term, scouted and brought over here. A business place then pays for their visa, their accommodation and their flights and fund it with a loan. This loan has such a significant amount of interest that it becomes difficult for the girl to find a place to live outside the confines of the brothel establishment where they also pay rent. As the girls are considered self-employed contractors they have no means to collectively bargain for better pay and conditions. I want to have a law passed that would allow those working as self-employed contractors to form trade unions that would allow them to collectively bargain for better conditions and pay." The Prime Minister estimates that around 35,000 women work in the industry across Zamenhuf with around 1/3 being foreign nationals.

In Zamenhuf prostitution is permitted only in licenced venues called brothels. These must be inspected annually by health inspectors and women working there must be over the age of 21 and have monthly tests for STD's. In addition the worker must have completed a nationally accredited certification covering safe working practices. The vast majority of these premises also include accommodation for their workers which is usually charged at an expensive rental price. The Women's Safety Council (WSC), a charity set up to try and support women in dangerous professions have welcomed the move saying. "We recognise that a woman has a right to choose whatever work she feels suited to her situation and needs but she must be permitted to do so with safety and dignity." Currently national minimum wage requirements and health insurance do not apply to self employed contractors.
