The White League Military Exercise
« on: June 08, 2018, 06:05:20 PM »

The Whiteinum Palace Lonport, Muneski President Bob Cruchet was perched in his office, leaning back on his chair rather causally. A notification popped up on his laptop, prompting him to sit up. It was an email from the Ecclesiastical State’s office of foreign affairs. The email was signed by the Pope himself, formally requesting the use of Nuneski, an abandoned island off the coast of Muneski, for some military exercises for ES and its allies. He adjusted his shirt and got straight into typing, his response asked if a conference was to be held before, discussing terms and other formalities in Lonport with the rest of the White League, regardless Cruchet assured the Pope that use of the island was acceptable. He inquired as to which nations are involved so he can send out the invites.

Send.
The Papal reply back was swift, It stated that they would send the invites as after all it was their allies, including Muneski, that were to attend the exercises. The Kingdom of Quintelia and the Republic of Miteravia had already been informed of the Pope’s plan and thus were ready to rsvp straight away, confirming their attendance.

Cruchet Issued an open letter to the nations of Albion:
In the spirit of friendship and regional co-operation we invite the nations of Albion to send observational teams, ten persons strong as a guideline, to be embedded within the various forces of the exercise for any purpose the nation sees fit. Sincerely, President Bob Cruchet of Muneski

Port Miloscar was buzzing with the news of the upcoming Military Exercises; the fact the venue was an uninhabited island had really lit a fire under the seamen. A very simple chain of thought was taking place: an island means water will play a large roll, therefore the navy is probably going to be a centrepiece, therefore they were excited. Their suspicions were confirmed by the rumour going round that the Secretary of Defence, Colonel Klaus Austerlitz, was visiting the drydocks today.

This would be Miteravia's first opportunity to flex it's military might since shrugging off the control of the Nationalist government. Since having only recently signed into an alliance with the Ecclesiastical State and Quintellia even more recently, the President wanted to impress their new allies and naturally that duty had fallen to the Colonel. The Colonel was not well liked and Seiler knew that well, but he hadn't appointed him for his charm, the Colonel was a man of results and Seiler trusted him to empress the 'White League' in the upcoming exercises.

The lagoon city of Verezzo, renowned for her beauty of settings, architecture, artwork and canals, was an important naval base of the Ecclesiastical Army Navy and home to one of the oldest, continually operated shipyards and armories and one of the earliest large-scale industrial enterprises in history, starting in 1104 with full production from 1320 and is responsible for providing and maintaining the full naval power of Normandy. It was here where the Ecclesiastical Delegation was going to depart from to attend the military exercise centred around Nunseski Island as well as the security and defence convention held in Lonport city, the capital of the allied Muneski, where an ample opportunity for advertising Norman military hardware was provided.

There were last minute changes due to the concerns made by the employed military experts at home concerning logistics issues due to the fact that Normany was committed fully in both the Heyran Tsunami crisis as well the nearby Phuebra crisis, marking it the fist time for a while the heightened military activites undertaken by the church state, courtesy of the young Pope Peter II who has been reigning since 2013, citing the importance of an underused yet well-equipped and trained Army of Christ in urgent times such as these considering prayer and diverse charity work wouldn't be enough effective tools to solve some of the biggest issues Mundus wide. Technically speaking, considering they didn't announce the exact nature of how much commitment the ES would bring to the exercises, it wouldn't ben issue.

The plan was that Miteravia's single aircraft carrier was going to stop by and load around 20 aircraft belonging to the Ecclesiastical Army Navy Air Service consisting of support aircraft and helicopters, while Secretary for Ecclesiastical Security, Cardinal Michael Spencer and the Chief-of-Staff of the Supreme Command, Marshal Heiner Schönbaum, were going to board the Armageddon-class Battleship, Jesus Christ, usually operational in museum and heritage duties as well as special occasions such as these. The only commitment regarding relevant naval vessels would be a Sovereign-class Command Ship, St. Paul, which was a hybrid between a frigate and military transport ship with multiple role capabilities, with the capacity to be transformed from a combat ship with the firepower of a traditional frigate to a hospital ship within a day. Even though it was going to be seen as a Token Ship, it nonetheless displayed the capabilities of the EAN no matter the limits imposed and marked the presence of the church state's diplomatic influence. Together they would embark to the allied Republic of Muneski, generous enough to adhere to the Holy Father's requests.

It was only a matter of time before the fun could begin...

President Cruchet has the police chief on the phone to get Lonport ready for the imminent arrival of the armed forces of many countries.
"Yes I know captain we will be stretching our resources to the limit" ... "No I cant pull out now i'd be in great trouble if I was to do that" Just do it" he hang up on him.
The president had his maid working around the clock getting the palace ready.
He had closed multiple roads so the others could reach him swiftly
"I know closing all the roads will cause chaos"... "do you to be the embarrassment of Mundus"?
He was stressed he was soon to go to makeup to get rid of the stress lines and signs of many sleepless nights.
He had been on the phone with too many people. getting every little detail right so something didn't go horrendously wrong.

Colonel Austerlitz had finished his inspection of the drydocks and fleet housing at Port Miloscar, he was satisfied with the quality of what he had observed. Now the Naval High Command of the Navy (comprised of the Admiral Mario Koenig, Vice-Admiral Marco Reinhardt and Rear-Admiral Jacek Zawadzki) was gathered in the bridge of the Aircraft Carrier, the MSS Befreier; Austerlitz entered the room. The three admirals were stood in a small circle, RAdm Zawadzki turned towards the Colonel in a way to almost form a line with the other two Admirals.

"Gentlemen," The Colonel nodded, "I'm sure you're aware of the upcoming exercises with ES and her allies? Well the Secretariat of Defence can afford no mistakes here, sirs."
VAdm Reinhardt was the first to reply. "Klaus, we've all known each other long enough to know that we all want the same thing, no? We all want to show the world Miteravia is no lame duck. As much as you and I have had our differences in the past, we work together now. Our goals are the inextricably the same."
Zawadzki nodded in agreement; while Adm Koenig just watched, expressionless.
"Yes, Marco, I'm aware. In fact I want you to lead the Miteravian fleet at the exercises." The Colonel retorted, while Reinhardt blinked in shock, Austerlitz turned to Koenig. "If you have no objections of course, Mario, these ships are your charge after all."
Koenig adjusted his cap. "Colonel, I trust Marco implicitly. After all as Defence Secretary you can overrule me anyway."
"I wouldn't dream of it." Austerlitz smiled slyly.

"What vessels..." Zawadzki piped up, "What vessels is Marco going to take?"
"Hmmm...specific vessel wise the choice is up to the three of you. Numerically: 2 Destroyers, 3 to 4 Frigates, Maybe two subs, one fleet and one missile, a handful support vessels if you need them. Oh and of course this beauty with 10 or so Marine aircraft, the air-force will be supplying the rest." The Colonel said, whilst indicating to the floor bellow him as 'the beauty'. "Oh and Vice-Admiral Reinhardt, I'll discuss the route with you via secure email."
The admirals sat in silence.
"Right then I must be off, got to catch a plane to Lonport." The Colonel said. "Good day, Gentlemen."
Austerlitz exited the room as swiftly as he had entered.
"What a dickhead." Reinhardt muttered.
The other two admirals nodded in agreement.

47 Minutes later

As the Colonel was about to board the plane, his phone pinged alerting him to a secure email he had received. Reinhardt had sent him the fleet list.

  • Flagship/Aircraft Carrier MSS Befreier
  • Destroyer MSS Schlangenjäger
  • Destroyer MSS Pružný
  • Frigate MSS Zbawiciel
  • Frigate MSS Síla
  • Frigate MSS Janov
  • Fleet Sub. MUS Skryté
  • Missile Sub. MUS Kugl
  • Small Support Vessels (SSVs)

"Good," He mumbled to himself, as he boarded the aircraft. The Colonel composed a reply that read:

Quote from: Col. Austerlitz's secure email to VAdm Reinhardt
Good work.

Assemble the fleet.
Wait for the aircraft and other combat forces.
Sail to Verezzo, ES.
Refuel and load up ES aircraft.
Proceed to Nuneski Island.
Await further orders.

Col. A

Puerto Baybayin, 20 km away from Lungsod City

"Admiral Barbossa, I entrust you with the fleet you see outside for that military exercise." Minister of Defense Ronald Bato pointed out of the window with the full view of the bay and all ships stationed there. "Thank you sir, but if I may ask, when will we be deployed in Phuebra? I thought that we will be there as to complete the fleet there." The admiral asked as he straightened his coat. "Once you've finished that exercise, you and you're fleet will go straight to Phuebra." Bato replied as he stood up. "You'll leave in about 30 minutes. Also do try to be the leader of the whole team, cause we want to be projected as powerful." The Admiral nodded but remained quiet as he exited the room. A few minutes later, ten vessels are filled up with seamen and soldiers that would be deployed.

"So, is the Enterprise II fleet finally fully stocked up?" An ensign asked. "Yeah, though I doubt those helicopters are enough. I mean, Miteravia has a decent carrier unlike us who has a better economy." A private nearby replied before the ensign continuing. "Yeah, I was asking about supplies and ammunition and stuff, not an opinion about military strength and shit." The crewman replied as she walked away, before turning her head slightly. "Also, please tell your friends in the army to hurry the fuck up." The private clenched his fists but sighed and followed the order.

"Thisn is Baybayin Command Center, all ten ships are out in the Quintopia Bay and will arrive in ETA seven hours inMuneski Island. Nunski? Nuneski? Argh, whatever that is called." A communications officer radioed in to the others in the building. "Now, is probably the best time to check the list of ships in here. There's Enterprise II, Independence II, Relief, Ligtas, Lungsod, Bahay, Romblique, Baha, Swordfish, and Bakunawa. Did I miss anything?" The officer, Hector Ocampo listed their callsigns and radioed in to Ronald. “All seems normal, though sir, if I may ask, do I have to keep contact with them during the exercise? I mean, it would just make sense for them to have Enterprise Dos to just be the command center of the fleet.” Bato then replied, raising his voice a bit. “I want to know everything in real time. Just do your fucking job.” Hector shrugged, and continued on doing whatever he needs to do.

The president was waiting at the airport, while the foreign Ambassador Georgie cruchet was at the port. They were waiting for the imminent arrival of the allied states of The Kingdom of Quintelia and the Republic of Miteravia respectively.
Colonel Austerlitz was the first to arrive at Lonport international airport (LIA) he was directed to a heavily armoured Range Rover sport which was in the middle of a respectfully fleshed out convoy.
They set off to the The Whiteinum Palace.
At the port King Lapu arrived on his ship where he got into another heavily armoured Range Rover sport.
They traveled approximately 20 miles to get to the palace on closed roads.
they got to the palace minutes apart the greeters welcomed them in to the welcoming interior of the palace.

Cardinal Michael Spencer and Marshal Schönbaum arrived safely and well in the Lonport Harbour as they approached their hosts in the Battleship 'Jesus Christ'. The Ecclesiastical delegation really looked forward to the upcoming discussions while the military exercises were taking place, at least something such as this could've been organised rapidly and effectively. Eager to showcase the promised equipment for allied nations such as Quintelia and Miteravia, the gentlemen were escorted to the Palace by car where they arrived in a span of a couple of minutes much to their surprise, although no complaints could be heard, being puntual and not coming late was of high importance.

"President Cruchet, Colonel Austerlitz, King Lapu...very much obliged to see recognisable and allied faces, looking forward to the talks and may the exercises go well." Cardinal Gilabert greeted, shaking hands and what not, the Marshal doing the same, "As requested we brought a few samples of the desired weaponry that will propell your nations' armies into the 21st century hehe, although they're already much so this is just to give them a boost so to say" he added.

The car journey from the airport to the palace wasn't a particularly long one but the colonel was a heavier smoker and had not been allowed to indulge his habit on the plane and he also thought it rude to do so in the car and the palace alongside everyone else, it would have to be an itch left unscratched.

The Marshal's comment about the new ES-supplied weaponry piqued Austerlitz's interest which entirely depleted his craving for nicotine.
"So Marshal Schönbaum, what is this...er...gear the Army of Christ is...donating to your allies?" The Colonel grinned, he looked over towards King Lapu, "It's almost like it's Christmas isn't it, Your Highness?"
He rolled his sleeve to check his watch, "Cardinal, it shouldn't be long until the Miteravian fleet arrives in Verezzo. I've never been but I hear it's one heck of a port, well it must be if it houses the ES Fleet."

"Hehe, well the Colonel and everyone else will soon see what we Normans have in for store." The Marshal said proudly. "I can reassure you that some of it will serve Miteravia well in upcoming conflicts if need be, this is prime Ecclesiastical quality you'll witness and that we're quite serious about." The Cardinal then spoke up.

"Well I think based on what's currently showing on my watch, they must've loaded all the aircraft and are already on their way to the island. Verezzo's harbour is indeed impressive and ancient, one of the finest in the world with a grand history stretching back into the middle ages, constructing the Ecclesiastical State's naval vessels even until this very day; Might I add that it was there the San Marco Force or Marines was founded in 1537 on the orders of Pope Paul III and thus serves as their HQ too, one of the oldest of its kind in Mundus, serving the faithfully with all of their might."

"Well I suppose we can begin right now unless there are a few ppl more who haven't showed up yet?" Marshal Schöbaum said.

The President looked around the table full of delicacies from the respective nations of the participants of the military exercise.
"Unless anyone has invited anyone I don't know of I believe we are ready to get started." he said
"As you, all know it is on Muneski's island of Nuneski" he said as he started off the session with a shot of Vodka specially imported of his consumption.
"A brief history of the island goes it was discovered when the civil war of 1888 broke out and the anti-es side was looking for an out of country area to set up a port" He stated
"over the year of the war, the island was heavily used and nearly let the other side win, but after the war it was left abandoned until it was found again in 2001.
The island was considered too dangerous to inhabit because of all the pirates using it as a base." he said
"But for the sake of this exercise, we send our best crew from the navy, the navy walruses, to clear the island of them the island has been searched top to bottom for any hidden weapon left by the pirates that may hinder the excerise, we cleared multiple landmines by the way"
any questions about Nuneski?

The Colonel looked concerned. "Landmines..." he mumbled. Clearing his throat he looked up, "Landmines, you say, sir? On the island itself I assume. What about in the surrounding sea? Y'know...er...sea mines, are there any of those around? Miteravian steel hulls are strong but one mine could cause hundreds of thousands in damage. The prospect of those is rather disconcerting."

Austerlitz leaned forward in his chair, looking towards the ES delegation. "Oh Marshal, I'm certain your equipment will serve Miteravia well. I look forward to seeing it in action some day soon." A small grin crept across his face, exacerbating the shallow lines in his face.

King Lapu was the one who attended the meeting, as most of his high ranking men are busy with counter-terrorism efforts back in Quintelia while Minister of Defense Ronald Bato insisted on watching over the exercise back in Quintelia. "Cardinal, I can say that whatever type of weapon that you're going to give to us won't be wasted as it will be used for the benefit of all of us here." He said to the Cardinal, as he leaned back to his chair. "Now, can we see the equipment that I've been waiting for?" He continued as he crossed his legs as he took a slice of bibingka, only to find out that the outer side is burnt.

"Very well then..." the Marshal said as he drank up his water. "Let me thus introduce some of the military tools that the Ecclesiastical State has to offer, courtesy of Umbrella Corporation." He proceeded to hold each weapon for display.

Spike missile system - "The Spike is a fourth-generation man-portable fire-and-forget anti-tank guided missile and anti-personnel missile with a tandem-charge HEAT warhead. As well as engaging and destroying targets within the line-of-sight of the launcher ("fire-and-forget"), some variants of the missile are capable of making a top-attack profile through a "fire, observe and update" guidance method;the operator tracking the target, or switching to another target, optically through the trailing fiber-optic wire (or RF link in the case of the vehicle-mounted, long-range NLOS variant) while the missile is climbing to altitude after launch. This is currently one of the most advanced ATMs currently available".

Willow - "The Willow fourth-generation man-portable infrared homing surface-to-air missile (SAM) MANPADS. The Willow's primary new feature is its multispectral optical seeker, using three sensors - ultraviolet, near infrared, and mid-infrared - as opposed to its predecessor. Cross-checking sensors against one another better discriminates between relevant targets and decoys, and decreases the chance of disruption from countermeasures, including lasers that attempt to blind missiles. As with the Spike, it's also one of the world's advanced of its type and currently serve the Ecclesiastical State with much satisfaction and pride".

Carl Gustav - "The Carl Gustav is an 84 mm man-portable reusable anti-tank recoilless rifle. Despite its long use since the late 1940s, a combination of light weight, low cost and widely varied ammunition types, as well as several iterations throughout the years in use, makes the Carl Gustaf extremely flexible and able to be used in a wide variety of roles. The latest version is the M4. Compared to its predecessor it is 3.4 kg (7.5 lb) lighter weighing 6.6 kg (15 lb) and shorter with a 950 mm (37 in) overall length. The shorter length was in response to the need to wield the weapon in urban terrain, and weight savings were achieved through using lighter components whenever possible including a carbon fiber tube with titanium liner, as well as a new venturi design. Other new features include a red-dot sight, a travel safety catch to allow the M4 to be carried while loaded, an adjustable shoulder rest and forward grip for improved ergonomics, a shot counter to keep track of how many rounds have been fired to manage the weapon's 1,000-round barrel life, picatinny rails for grips and sight mounts, and a remote round management function so intelligent sights can "talk" to programmable rounds."

The Marshal paused and moisturized his throat before continuing as the weapons were passed around the gathered attendees. "If there are any questions or even requests of other Ecclesiastical weapons not mentioned yet and are of particular curiosity, feel free..." he added.

King Lapu examined each weapon with passion, as he himself has carried a rocket luncher in the 2010 mutiny, although it was an older class. He even knelt down as he carried the Carl Gustav, looking through the sights as if he was trying to shoot something. “Well, all of these are nice, sir. However, if I may ask, is there any available LMGs for sale?” King Lapu asked, as he gave the sample Carl Gustav to the next person. “I mean, a few soldiers of mine are complaining about the lack of lighter machine guns. Other than that, I’m ordering a thousand units each for the army and another thousand each for the navy.” King Lapu said, as he sat down and stretched his arms as the anti-tank rifle was too heavy for him. “Wait, how much does one unit cost?”

The King then looked at the President and asked. “So, in the Island of Nuneski, what would the soldiers be doing there? We can’t just have a target practice there or else I’ll be just wasting money on fuel.”

"Yes of course my Bibingka-eating friend...May I present to you the NEGEV Light Machine Gun" the Marshal began as an assistant opened a box, assembling it before handing the LMG over to the much respected gentleman.

"The Negev is not only the world’s lightest machine gun but it is the only semi-automatic mode version in the market to date. Deployed by the Ecclesiastical Army of Christ among others, the Negev’s semi-automatic features empower its operators with safer Close Quarter Battle (CQB). The NEGEV LMG has been battle-proven worldwide under adverse and extreme environmental conditions. Being light-weight, the Negev enables agile movement and accurate targeting, particularly in urban areas. Its large caliber contributes to better fire power as well as advanced penetration of walls and light-armored vehicles." The Marshal proudly presented.

"As for future acquisition of these weapons, it is the Umbrella Corporation who's ultimately responsible, including price negotiations" he noted with a subtle smile.

well, King Lapu we can do whatever we want in reality as long as its in the Mundus rules and regulations.
I am not here to decide that as I am not taking part, Muneski will not stop you doing anything and will not make you do anything.

The Colonel laughed deeply, he clapped his hands together and spoke: "Oh Marshal, ES never fails to impress does it? In fact I believe I saw a few of the older Carl Gustav variants during the civil war, they don't half pack a mean punch. They sound like a damned clap of thunder, I tell you." He excited took a seat next to King Lapu, who he addressed. "Looks like we're both going to have t' break out the cheque-book for the Umbrella Corp, ey, Your Majesty?"
Austerlitz shuffled in his seat to face the men from ES, "Although that said, the cost isn't too important for us, the budget is sitting in a nice surplus right about now so I definetly think we'll be putting in an order for a little bit of everything, save the NEGEVs as our Minimis are doing us nicely.

"As for Nuneski, I believe the presence of Landmines was mentioned earlier? There's a chance the Walruses missed a few, is there not?" He said direction his question toward President Cruchet. "These are training exercises afterall, I'd hate for someone to get...well... turned into a fine mist. Especially if they're Miteravian...god all that paperwork..."

“The Miteravian here has the right questions to ask.” King Lapu said, with a bit of a concern on his face. “I mean, of course we want to have a show of our combined capabilities here, though our nations will be humiliated if even a single personnel dies during a practice. Imagine all the bad things that would happen.” He continued, ignoring the food that he has been eating throughout the meeting. “Plus, weren’t you the one who invited us all here, including a good chunk of our navies. So I assumed that you have something in mind for the troops to do there once they reached the island, but no, you don’t.” The King continued, as he finished his little rant with a deep sigh. “Ok, have them do a counter-insurgency simulation if you’re giving me the choice, as it tests deployment, offensive, defensive, tactics plus their’s little to no chances of any casualties unless there really is a landmine or two there.” He finally took a sip of water and cleared his throat.

He turned to his seatmate and laughed after saying. “I don’t need a chequebook, I only need a single cheque.” He then looked at the Negev, even aiming it to the president and to the window. He put back on the table. “It’s delightful, I assume this is also from Umbrella Corp?” The King said, leaning back to his chair. “Also, can I keep all these for my personal armory back in Quintelia, they’re something really.”

The president heard the complaints.
"Sorry people its just Muneski have never done one before and we believe that this is was this meeting was for." he said apologetically
"As for the other issue if you wouldn't mind delaying for another few hours if you would like I could send them back out for a second search" he considered

Austerlitz interjected, "I'd suggest starting a second pass of the search now and when the navies arrive, which..." He checked his watch thoughtfully, "...shouldn't be too long now, that the airforces and naval contingent run their offshore exercises first then once the search is complete we start the land exercises. If you wouldn't be offended, Mr. President, would you allow some of the Miteravian IST-SCIE explosive experts to help with the search."

He ran his hand along his neck, a force of habit for the colonel; a tick he often exhibited whilst thinking quite intently. "As for the CI simulation, I offer Miteravians to play the role of the insurgents, we've got a little experience in Guerrilla warfare hehe." He laughed, raising his eyebrows in an insinuating manner. "The SCIE fellas will have all their stealth get-up so we'd be prepared."

The president heard this happily he called his secretary over and asked her to call up the navy walruses to do another search.
"I'd be happy for you to help." he remarked
"Also unless anyone else has anything else to say I suggest we start the navy and airforce side of this operation" he stated with glee

The Miteravian fleet had made good time, the weather in the Straight of Shaw had been quite mild thus allowing them to arrive in Verezzo and load the 20 planes of the Ecclesiastical air wing onto the MSS Befreier rapidly. The fleet had already crossed the Bay of Sargon and was headed towards the sea of Alucard at a rate of knots, just a handful of nautical miles out from their destination at Nuneski.

Vice-Admiral Reinhardt was nervous. Excited. A little apprehensive and just generally anxious. Today was important, he had a lot to prove to the Colonel for with whom he held such mutual distaste. He looked up from the chart he was reading.
"Oh bloody hell, we're closer than I thought." He exclaimed, causing one or two of the sailors to turn round. "Why'd no one say anything, hmm?"
A midshipman mumbled something under his breath, drawing a slight glare from the the admiral.
"Nevermind." Reinhardt huffed. He stood and exited the bridge, heading for the deck. After producing a satellite phone from his pocket he proceeded to type in Colonel Austerlitz's phone number and call him.

Half a ring and the Colonel picked up.
"Yes, Marco." The Colonel said bluntly.
"We're about fifteen minutes out right now." The Admiral informed him.
"Didn't I instruct you to call when you were an hour out, and then again at half an hour."
"You did, I was however busy running a fleet and trying not to make Miteravia look a fool...sir"
"Well, Marco, to inform you there's been a change of plans. There's to be a second safety assessment of Nuneski before the land exercises. So only drop of the SCIE guys that are explosive disposal trained. Air and navy are to undertake the exercises first."
"Sir, all SCIE operatives are explosive disposal trained...that was one of your orders..." The Admiral chuckled.
"Alright, shut up and drop them all off, goddamn!" The Colonel snapped.
"Yessir." The Admiral covered his mouth to stop himself laughing. A single beep confirmed the Colonel had hung up on him.

The admiral headed back into the bridge and gave the order for the support ships to head towards Nuneski and amphibiously deploy the IST-SCIE forces as well as a small detachment of IST Marines. The rest of the fleet headed closer to Muneski's mainland to meet the Muneski fleet.
'The Quintellians shouldn't be too far behind.' The Admiral thought to himself. He wondered if the Miteravians were the first to arrive save their Muneski hosts.
