Solonia, officially the Republic of Solonia, is a representative democracy with a President as the head of state and Prime Minister as the Head of Government. President
The President of Solonia is the head of state and Grand Commander of the armed forces. He/she is elected every 5 years through a national popular vote. The President has free choice to appoint the Prime Minister but normally they are from the party or coalition with the most seats in the National Assembly of Solonia.
The President has the right to initiate the legislative process. They also has the opportunity to directly influence it by using their veto to stop a bill; however, their veto can be overruled by a three-fifths majority vote in the presence of at least half of the statutory number of members of the National Assembly. Before signing a bill into law, the President can also ask the Constitutional Court to verify that it is compliant with the constitution, which in practice has a decisive influence on the legislative process.
In their role as supreme representative of the Solonian state, the President has power to ratify and revoke international agreements, nominates and recalls ambassadors, and formally accepts the accreditation's of representatives of other states. The President also makes decisions on award of highest academic titles, as well as state distinctions and orders. In addition, the President can pardon those found guilty of a crime (normally they consult the Minister of Justice on such decisions).
The President is also the Grand Commander of the Solonian Armed Forces; they appoint the Chief of the General Staff and the commanders of all of the service branches; in wartime they nominate the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces and can order a general mobilization. The President performs their duties with the help of the following offices: the Office of the President, the Office of National Security, and the Presidential Advisory Council.
