Government of the Republic of Josai
The Republic of Josai is ran as a Presidential republic with a parliamentary system. This means that the President is both head of state and head of government. Josai has had this system of government since the split form Rokkenjima in 07/10/1957.
Executive Branch: The Executive Branch is headed by the President who is elected via a popular vote of a democratic general election every 5 years. A President has a 2-term limit (10 years max), the President is responsible for the day to day administration of the country through his/her cabinet members appointed by them directly who are charged with the administration of government offices and agencies. The President is also the supreme commander of the armed forces and has the power to propose bills which need the approval of a majority vote of the Federal Diet.
Legislative Branch: The legislative branch is known as the Federal Diet. Members of known as Diet Members (DM’s). Members are elected via popular votes of their districts. The Federal diet is a unicameral body that is the supreme law-making intuition. Via majority vote the Federal Diet can make and repeal existing laws and sign bills into law, approve and withdraw from international treaties and approve or amend government budgets. DM’s have no term limits.
Judicial Branch: The judicial branch is headed by the High Court of Josai. There are 7 High Court judges are elected by the Josai Bar Association and retain that position until the retirement age of 70. They have the power of judicial review if case law and parliamentary statutes clash, and are the final court of appeal.
Legal System: Inquisitorial System based on the German Civil Code.
