2. Tournament of Swords Quarter Final 2
Jack Renley V's Richard Timpson
With the arena now packed to capacity the home town boy Jack Renley entered to a huge wall of sound as he looked to take on East Moreland's Richard Timpson. The fight started off as a very dull affair for the first three minutes as each lashed out explorative strikes with their sword only for them to crash on the shield of the other harmlessly. It was Renley who found his range first by swinging in a powerful forehand hack which crept under the bottom edge of Timpson's shield and slammed into his thigh. It was clear that Timpson was hurt by this exchange as he stumbled and seemed less mobile moving forward. Renley was perhaps though too keen to finish the fight there and then as Timpson was able to avoid an incoming haymaker of a backhand cut which left Renley exposed and seeing an opening Timpson smashed the centre piece of his shield into Renley's face. The power of the shield lunge though caused Timpson to be off balance and the he fell luckily having sent Renley reeling backwards towards the fence. The referee waved it away as not being a knockdown but Timpson struggled to regain his feet as Renley rallied and rained heavy blows downwards towards his opponent who managed to avoid them on his shield as the first round ended.
The second round started off in a very similar way to the first as the pair returned to a feeling out process. This time it was a sudden shoulder barge with his shield that caused an opening for Timpson who was able to gain a knockdown by following up with a well placed swipe that crashed into Renley's sternum. As he fell Renley dropped his sword and had to spend around a minute frantically on his back defending with his shield while he scrambled to regain the blade. Once he had he was able to use upkicks to cause some seperation that gave him time to stand up but not before Timpson had landed a number of heavy looking blows on the thighs of Renley. Once both fighters had regained the vertical. Soon after the referee parted them as the 2nd round came to an end.
As we entered the final regulation round it was clear Renley had recieved some injury to his legs as his teams "mechanic" began working on the joint of his thigh armour. It was seemingly loosened perhaps indicating swelling or damage to the hinges. It was clear though as the final round started that Renley's mobility had been significantly reduced and following a strong series of pushes Renley was standing with his back to the cage. Timpson managed to get his shield into the throat region of Renley while beating continually at his opponents legs. Soon it was clear that only the shield was keeping Renley upright and the referee brought the contest to an end by way of a Technical Knockout.
