A Vodou House-warming
« on: July 27, 2020, 11:41:49 PM »

As has been reported in the Paracambian media our faith has been constructing its first purpose built home. The Vodou faith has yet to spread much beyond the homeland of Paracambi but we are hopeful as people gain knowledge of our faith they will accept the Loa into their hearts.

The opening of what has been described as the "Vatican of Vodou" is a historic day in the Vodou faith, and for the Empire of Paracambi, as such we would like to extend an invitation to all embassies in Paracambi to have a representative attend the event with a guest of their choosing. For those unfamiliar with the Vodou faith however there are a few rules which they must be aware of when visiting a Temple or Shrine dedicated to the Vodou faith.

1) Rituals within a Vodou place of worship include animal sacrifice.
2) No "weapons" unblessed by the Loa may enter a sacred site, even knives used for sacrifices must be blessed before entering a temple.
3) Women are expected to cover their head, a head scarf or hat of some variety is acceptable.
4) No one who has been in communion with an evil Loa may attend until after the next full moon.

Additionally while non-Vodou followers visiting a Temple or Shrine are expected to follow these rules above they may wish to be aware of the following.

1. It is customary to bring a gift to offer the Loa. This is usually some form of food or drink.
2. Vodou ceremonies will (we hope) feature people coming into contact with the Loa, therefore do not be surprised to see people acting strangely and this may mean them trying to interact with you.
3. It is customary for alcohol to feature in ceremonies, there is no compulsion to drink, but it will be present. ]
4. Places of worship are watched over by people known as Zangbeto, what some may consider a ritualistic religious police, they have authority over all but the Hougon and Mambo within a Temple or Shrine. It is expected their instructions are followed.

We hope that people will join us for this historic occasion. We are aware many nations with embassies[1] in Paracambi have interacted seldom with the government of the Empire and hope this opportunity will change that.

May the Loa bless you.

Emperor Benson
Head Hougon of the Vodou Faith
 1. unless for some reason a nation wouldn't have or want an Embassy in Paracambi I assume every nation has an embassy with us.

To:- Emperor Benson

Please accept my apologise for not attending the momentous and historic event in person as sadly business keeps me busy here in East Moreland.

I would like to take this oppurtunity to wish the Vodou faithful of Paracambi well for this event and would like to if permitted have our Royal Envoy Sir Jacob Longe attend along with my cousin Peter Kade who shall soon take up post as ambassador to Rokkenjima.

I hope this is acceptable and look forward to hearing their feedback on the event.

Dear Emperor Bensen

On behalf of the Six Dukedoms I have been requested to attend your auspicious event. As an island of Bakkermaya where a very small community of Vodou worshippers still resides I believe it important as Duke of Walesby that I attend.

I look forward to the event and hopefully learning more about the faith of some of my own people in the process.

May The Gods Watch Over You and Your Nation Know Peace

Dear Emperor Benson

I hope you will forgive my being unavailable to attend this event in person, unfortunately a personal matter has detained me at home. Attending on behalf of Achkaerin shall be his Lordship William Amberbrook a man who I intend to be Achkaerin's ambassador to your nation,  he's not got the glittering record of diplomatic appointments that one might expect of an ambassador, he's more a military man, but in his time sitting in the House of Nobles he was viewed across the political spectrum as a fair and reasonable man, I hope you find him the same way. Achkaerin's Minister of Culture shall also be in attendance.

I wish you and your nation all the best for the event

If you had the misfortune of being in Aluhampton for any reason other than the opening of the "Vodou Vatican" then today was not your lucky day. The streets began to fill up with people from about 4am and where the Paracambians went and a celebration was happening steel drums came along too. By 4:30am there was no chance that anyone in central Aluhampton was still asleep, what had been isolated little bands from local community clubs had merged as they had made their way towards the Lodge of the Loa and now it was like one huge band were playing with the sounds drifting over the city as the sun began its ascent to start another warm day. Among the crowd little groups were carrying effigies of the Loa decorated by schools, sports teams, youth groups or even just small groups of friends. Every now and again pairs of effigies of the same Loa would meet and the people crowded around them would momentarily burst into a spontaneous song in praise of that Loa before exchanging hugs and handshakes before dancing off again. Naturally large quantities of rum were already being passed around along with quiet a bit of weed, contributed by a fair few of the Rastafarians who despite not sharing the faith were happy to just enjoy the day. This was the cause of a few problems as among the crowd the Zangbeto wandered, the defenders of the Vodou faith, a kind of multi-coloured religious police force. For the followers of the Vodou faith the smoking of cannabis was a no no and the Zangbeto confiscated a fair few spliffs and threatened to punish those with it if they caught them again. This intervention however wasn't stopping the atmosphere.

Up at the Palace in Aluhampton the Emperor was getting ready. Today would be the first day the international community would see him not as an Emperor but as the Chief Hougan, the most highest ranking priest of the Vodou faith. Out had gone the sharp designer suit, in had come the lose fitting white trousers and a simple v neck white shirt, around his waist he had a simple long piece of white cloth had been tied with a long knife with no sheath was tucked into it. This would be the only thing considered a weapon allowed during the ceremony to open the Lodge. He could hear the music from the city drifting into the Palace grounds and the joyous nature of the music was already making some of his guardsman smile and dance a little at their posts. The Emperor didn't mind the men having some fun but he knew they would be disciplined enough to not get that distracted. Satisfied that he was prepared the Emperor made his way downstairs and found his son Prince Marcus and his daughter Princess Sophia were waiting. They were both wearing beautifully bright coloured clothing similar in style to their father however Sophia has a head scarf of red and blues tied around her head. There had long been a tradition that the men in the Imperial family followed the Vodou faith while the woman the Rastafarian, so much so that the Emperors arranged marriage to his now deceased wife had ensure he married a Rasta. Sophia however had always leaned more towards her father's faith and when her mother was killed two years ago she had taken the opportunity to persuade her father, who in truth took like persuading, to drop that law.  The children each embraced their father. "Your knife sharp?" Marcus asked his father. Benson drew the knife and gently ran a thumb down the blade.

"Sharp enough." Benson said as he let Marcus inspect the knife before putting it back in his belt. "Kids, I need you today to do several things First be good hosts, while not as many nations are coming as we had hoped they are here as friends. The second thing is to be pious, make sure you are an example to our people. Especially you Sophia." He took hold of her hand, "You're the Princess who has changed our Empire forever and this will be the first time in public you've shown your true self." Sophia nodded feeling a little emotional as though the Loa Anaisa Pye was embracing her. "Finally, I want you to enjoy yourself. We're not Christians singing sad songs about God, we're not bloody Cultists banging on about Underlords and battles, nor are we Manists proud to enslave. We're Vodouists, we celebrate life, we celebrate everything. You must look like your enjoying yourself......" he pulled Marcus aside a little , "Just not too much ok." His son had a repuatation for being a frequenter of many of Aluhampton's beach bars and clubs but the father and son knew this was a jest and smiled.

The three of them walked out the Palace and into the open top car which had given the Emperors security guards nightmares but the Emperor had insisted, if the Loa wanted the family gone then they'd get rid of them so whatever was to happen today was going to happen. No sooner had the gates opened for the two mile journey to the Lodge in the city itself a crowd began cheering and waving throwing flowers at the royals. "Sophia! Shopia!" they chanted happy to see the Princess in the car as many had speculated she would be largely absent today. The Princess waved back and took some of the flowers that had entered the car and put them into the head scarf she was wearing.

In the centre of Aluhampton sits The Minstrals Gate a place where legend has it a young boy called Thomas went off to war in the 1700s against the Seleucid his father's sword and his harp being his only possessions. Just three years later the same boy died refusing to surrender to the Seleucid and become a slave, his last act of defiance being  to smash his own harp before igniting a barrel of gunpowder aboard the Seleucid ship his boarding party had been cut off on. It was a story that had inspired the nation even so far as his crew mates who had survived writing a song in his honour, the song later became the national anthem and it was the words from the song "No chains shall sully thee, Thou soul of love and bravery" that were inscribed on the archway that would have at one time marked the entrance to the city. It was here that  Christian Soloman, the Emperors younger brother was waiting in the small room above that archway in a bright yellow building. He was half hanging out of the window watching the crowd beneath them already partying. "Prince Chris" several men yelled up. He looked down and recognised them as men he had served in the Marines with and waved back. "Ya coming for a drop" one help a large clay bottle, no doubt full of dark rum.

"Nah man" Christian responded with a smile, "Sun ain't o'er yardarm." he pointed only half seriously to the monument to the Minstrel Boys ship, The Insolent which was made of a mound of stones from each part of the Empire topped with a ships mast. "I've some bigwigs to look after. Walk Good bro." He waved goodbye as his comrades headed off towards where the Lodge would be opened. Christian waited patiently for the sound of footsteps on the wooden spiral staircase that came up into the the old guardroom.

The East Moreland embassy may have had specialist glass but the loud music and singing from the townsfolk of Aluhampton still managed to find a way of waking Sir Jacob Longe. In all of his 80 years he hadn't really learnt much about Vodou but it seemed a rather more lively faith than his own Cult of Helus. In the room next door King David's cousin Peter Kade was at the opposite end of the scale in terms of career experience. He was soon to begin his stint in his first ambassadorial role in Rokkenjima and the King had figured sending him to an occasion such as this with the stalwart Sir Jacob was a good learning opportunity. Peter had been awake an hour revising some of the things he'd found out about the Vodou faith and listening to the music.

At the appointed time the two diplomats meet downstairs, Peter had been watching some of the local TV coverage and had dressed accordingly in just a pair of trousers and a smart pale blue shirt, Sir Jacob however was unwilling to compromise and his only accommodation for the heat was a lighter linen suit. He suspected already that he would regret things but he was representing the Kingdom. The duo left the embassy which was pretty close to the old city walls and presented their credentials to those controlling access to where Prince Christian was waiting. As someone who was technically a member of the royal family Peter was the first to speak "Prince Christian I'm Peter Kade and this is Sir Jacob, we're here on behalf of His Majesty King David of East Moreland." Sir Jacob stifled a small chuckle.

"Nice to meet you Your Highness" Sir Jacob extended a hand, "We feared when we woke up this morning we'd missed the party. Its certainly lively." the experienced diplomat said, "Is it likely to get even more lively?" he asked.

At 93 years of age William Lynwood had been the Duke of Walesby for just over 40 years. His home island may belong to Bakkermaya but its 1.6million inhabitants saw around 300,000 Vodouists and so he was a little more acustomed to the faith than most Bakkermayans and it was this that had got him the job of representing the Grand Duke at this event. He was a Cultist himself however he had an interest in the Vodou faith but had always seen it as a faith that lacked any real cohesion or leadership until now. It seemed Emperor Benson was determined to put together a more united faith. He had arrived in a rather patriotic Red and Yellow patterned shirt having taken fashion advice off some of his islands Vodou faithful. He had spent the previous evening down by the harbour enjoy a glass or two of rum and some traditional fish dishes before getting an early night. He remembered a few occasions when the Vodouists of Bakkermaya had hit the town early morning on some of their religious festivals and therefore had not been surprised when the festivities had started early doors. He'd gone out onto his room's balcony and watched the people enjoying themselves with a coffee before making his way to the gatehouse where he was due to meet Prince Christian.

William was not surprised to see the Morelanders there first, they did have a reputation for punctuality, but other than a respectful nod he gave his attention to the Bakkermayan Prince, "Good Morning Your Highness" William extended a hand that despite his advanced age retained a firmness. "Thank you for the chance to come here. The Vodouists back home are keen to hear tales of what this Lodge of yours is like." He added.

Despite being Minister of culture Bonnie Harper wasn't used to being the lead delegate for Achkaerin at an event, that was normally where she'd expect to see a member of the Royal Family or one of her more senior colleagues in government but today she was 'it' she'd spent the flight down going over everything that the Paracambian's had sent them, and then she'd been doing her research such was her desire not to screw this up. She'd dressed slightly more casually than might have been expected of a government minister, her black knee length skirt going well with a simple short sleeved white blouse. Around her neck she had draped a scarf that she'd picked out for the observing of the traditions. She hadn't come alone joining her on the trip were two others first was Achkaerin's newly minted ambassador to Paracambi William Amberbrook he wore dark trousers and a green shirt and was taking note of everything around him, soaking up the atmosphere, lastly there was another newly appointed ambassador this time to Bakkermaya Rosa Ayanami, now Rosa was only present because she was new to ambassadorial duties and wasn't that experienced with international visits either so this trip was sort of like her work experience, she wore black trousers, a white t-shirt and a red cardigan, she also had a red head scarf.

Once they were all set and in accordance with the information they'd been sent they made their way to the gatehouse there was no surprise to seeing the Morelander's already there, after all there was something ominous about the Morelander's being late for anything, generally that meant something was likely to get blown up somewhere, the Bakkermayan Duke was a welcome sight as far as Rosa went as well.  Bonnie politely nodded to the Morelander's and Bakkermayan's before doing the same to Prince Christian.

"Your Highness I thank you on behalf of Achkaerin for the invitation, I'm Bonnie Harper Minister of Culture." Bonnie said smiling "This is Lord William Amberbrook he's taking over as our ambassador to Paracambi, and the young lady is Lady Rosa Ayanami she's due to be our ambassador to Bakkermaya but wanted to come along today to get to know the Alucard area I hope you don't mind."

Walter Armani had stayed in a rather nice hotel within the old city wars last night. He had at first been annoyed by the sounds outside early in the morning but after opening the window and putting the room's desk chair in front of the window he sat with his feet up on the window frame listening to the strangly melodic percussion while watching the sun raise into the sky. It turned into a rather enjoyable start to the day and after a cup of coffee he got himself ready for the day but not before prostrating himself on the bedroom floor before a small wooden figurine he'd set up.

"Ancient Ones of the Otherworld
Wise People of skill and power
I offer this to you as a sign of goodwill
Honey and cream, sweetness and life,
May there be peace and friendship
always between myself and the Folk"

He moved onto his knees and uncapped a small bottle he had brought with him and using a piece of white cloth allowed a few drops of the liquid inside to come out. He pressed this now damp cloth to the mouth of the winged figure before him which symbolized a "Messenger Sprite" one of the watches who were everywhere making sure people acted with love towards the spirits of light. Walter had done the same every day of his life since he was 12 and had been sent away by an uncle to the Ciente Peiro Academy, a boarding school for orphaned children that sought to give these unfortunate children a future in the service of the Empire. Walter's parents had been poor farmers and the family had always struggled with keeping a waterproof roof over their heads, both his parents had died along with his older brother in a car accident. Walter had gladly accepted his opportunity, first as a soldier in the Imperial Marine Commando, then at 28 in the Imperial Security Service which guarded the Imperial Family. During that time he'd studied his degree in International Politics and upon graduating was surprised that Emperor Franco Tornincasa III had made him part of the diplomatic department. He'd spent two years in Lodja as a special adviser and now with the "Baby Emperor" on the throne Princess Brigida had named him as one of her aides. At the age of 40 he was now a man who had risen considerably high for a poor orphaned boy, the fact his younger sister hadn't though annoyed him. He considered putting away the figurine and milk and honey mixture but stopped.

"Ancient Ones of the Otherworld
Wise People of skill and power
I offer this to you as a sign of service
Honey and cream, sweetness and life,
May the sprites watch over my sister.
always keep her in my heart."

He once more added a few drops to the cloth and once more offered it the figurine before this time tidying his makeshift shrine away and getting ready for the day. He showered, dressed in a smart shirt with no tie, black trousers and pinned on a grey steel wolf head badge to his shirt pocket. He checked his e-mails a final time on his laptop just incase the Princess had been in touch but there was nothing and so he packed it away and made his way downstairs. The hotel was rather busy and he handed his room key to the receptionist. "Was everything good for you sir?" the girl asked.

"Excellent thank you." Walter said, "I hope you get to enjoy your day." He added before he left the hotel his briefcase in his hand, making his way for the easily visible gatehouse. It seemed to him a strange place for a gathering of guests, not a particularly big venue or a grand one but the appreciation for the hosts history was clear. He presented his credentials and made his way inside. Naturally he recognized Prince Christian as this was the only person he knew he would be meeting before hand while it would be impossible to predict who else would be present. "Your Imperial Highness" he bowed deeply to Christian before offering a handshake. He placed his briefcase on a table and clicked it open and removed from it a bottle of dark brown glass. "I hope you do not mind Prince Christian as I know we are all expected to bring gifts for the Loa, Ioa, my apology Prince as I'm not familiar with the Vodou faith as much as I probably should be. This however is a bottle of Port for you. I was passed your folder by our nations diplomatic corps and it seems we are Brother Marines so from one Marine to another I hope you accept this gift." He said before turning and introducing himself to the others. Out of the others he had a vague familiarity with some of them even if he couldn't at first place the names, however Sir Jacob Longe was someone he was familiar with as a seasoned diplomat. "Sir Jacob" Walter extended a hand, "A pleasure to meet you. I read quiet a bit about the CTO and CIS during my degree studies. I hope you don't mind me picking your brains later on." He knew the Princess had ear-marked the Morelanders as a priority to get on good terms with and if having a chance to chat with a man with 40 years of diplomatic experience was something he wouldn't pass over.

Walter then turned to Prince Christian. "Shall we open that bottle or is it not yet time for a drink? May I ask exactly what's happening today as by the look of it outside the celebration is in full swing."

The heat wasn't a problem for Besarian Ivanov. He had spent enough time on the more northern Lodjain islands where the weather all year round was beautiful. What he hadn't planned on was the sound of steel drums at an ungodly hour. Their metallic ping had woken him and at first he thought it was probably just some drunken clown but as more and more joined in he thought that perhaps it was the ceremony beginning and he had missed it. He looked at his watch and it showed they still had several hours before they had to even head to meet Prince Christian.

"Do we need to get ready?" a voice from the bed called to him. It was his future wife Isidora Smirnov. She was set to become the future Lady of the Conclave and that meant she would gain at least a little responsibility in help arrange the social life of the Isle of the Goddess and essentially work to make sure Besarian looked good. The pair where in many respects still getting to know each other and the romantic in Queen Klara had made her send the pair to Paracambi for the ceremony and of course what Klara had called a "week long investigation into why the Paracambian tourist industry is doing so well." but which in reality was an excuse for the pair to have a little time together.

"Not yet" Besarian replied turning back and returning to bed for a little while until his watches alarm indicated it was time to start getting ready.

"Which dress" Isidora asked having emerged from the bathroom. She was holding up two dresses, one in red and one in blue. Besarian glanced up from his e-mails on his laptop.

"Go red, Queen's of Lodja wear blue." He suggested.

"But the blue goes better with my figure." She semi-protested.

"Go red." Besarian said more firmly this time putting the laptop lid down and crossing over to his fiancee taking away the blue dress. "You're going to be amazing no matter what." He threw the blue dress onto the floor at the opposite side of the room, "and Queen's wear blue." he repeated. Isidora nodded and disappeared back into the bathroom emerging twenty minutes later in a shoulder baring red dress a long scarf drapped across her bare pale shoulders that could double as a head scarf. "I'm ready" she announced and Besarian slipped on his shoes so they could get going.

They walked hand in hand through the streets of old Aluhampton until they reached the gatehouse and made their way into the ever filling room. Besarian naturally recognised Sir Jacob and Peter Kade, both had spent time on the Isle of the Goddess in various occasions. He nodded to them respectfully as he glanced around the room before spotting Prince Christian. "Your Highness." Besarian bowed and offered his hand, "Queen Klara apologises for not coming in person, she's keen to spend time on the Isle with her son. Her misfortune at missing this is therefore my good fortune." Isidora squeezed his hand slightly, Besarian realised he hadn't introduced her. "May I introduce my wife to be Isidora."

"Your Highness" Isidora gave a graceful courtsey the sign of high breeding and months of practice for the debutant balls as a teenagers. "I'm already so excited having seen how happy your people are." she said rather diplomatically.

Una didn't often get sent to other countries on business on behalf of the crown but she was thankful to attend this one as she'd seen several images of Paracambi and how different it was to the lochs and glens of the Cenneg highlands. She had travelled without any other members of the Cenneg government and had considered initially bringing her 10 year old son Jack, but then seeing the fact animal sacrifice was likely she thought better of the idea. She was not averse to travelling alone as all she ever needed to be happy was a good book and some interesting scenery.

Having put her book on the nations "Minstrel Boy" away in the drawer of her room within the embassy she checked that the tartan scarf needed for coverying her head was in her handbag and set out for the gateway. The bright sunny day was unlike any they'd had back home this year and with her fair skin she made sure to stick on some extra suncream as she strolled the Aluhampton streets.

Upon arriving at the gatehouse she made sure to first greet Prince Christian before some of the others that she recognised.

The room above the gate was filling up now and it wasn't really a large room as it was. Prince Christian had been enjoying welcoming the various guests and seeing who was next through the door. He'd kept everyone stcoked with drinks and was delighted when Walter had handed over a bottle of port. He didn't have a great in depth knowledge of the Aostan Marine's but the Regent's aide was right there was a kind of unwritten bond between Marines across the world and when Walter suggested they open the bottle Christian didn't need asking twice. He went around offering the fortified wine to each of those willing to partake.

As the clock neared the appointed time Christian felt that he should at least warn those in the room what was going to happen. "Shortly with a bit of luck a procession will form from the various different groups wandering the city.  My brother is heading towards this gate and once here we'll begin the walk up to the new Lodge. It's been planned as a bit of a parade but don't expect any slick orangisation like a military parade it'll be lots of dancing and strutting. You'll notice quiet a few animals being herded along with us these will be needed for the rituals up at the Lodge, I think though you'll find lots of people bringing their own along too." He shrugged his shoulders indicating that it was just one of those things and beyond anyone's power to stop. "My best advice for today, just go along with the flow."  As if perfectly timed the sound of hundreds of steel drums and horns could be heard approaching by now all playing the same tunes.

Downstairs the Emperor and his children had arrived and were standing waiting patiently for the faithful to arrive as the sound of music drifted ever nearer. Prince Christian waited for the guests to finish their drinks before heading downstairs just in time to see the people stop at the gate. Emperor Benson held up a hand and little by little the music stopped and the crowd silenced themselves with hissed "shhhss"

"People of the Vodou faith" Emperor Benson spoke loudly "Today is such a momentous day that even Bondyé[1] will look down at us and smile. Today is a hugely momentous day for the Vodou faith, finally we are giving the Loa a home here on Mundus. This day shall go down in history alongside with the building of Christianities Vatican, the construction of the mosque in Mecca, the Temple in Jerusalem and the Temple of Helus in Northfort. Today I am thankful that I am alive to witness such joy in our faith and to see for the first time in history those from beyond our shores come to witness the Vodou faith." The crowd cheered and a wall of noise from steel drums and horns filled the air. The Emperor turned to face the gatehouse and holding hands with his daughter and son lead the people into the old part of Aluhampton through the gateway. Several of the Parcambians surged forward as the music began and people weren't so much walking through the old part of the city but dancing and strutting. Soon the foreign guests found a loose ring of smartly suited men around them, clearly bodyguards of sort and Prince Christian walked with them. Around the group the locals swarmed not paying them much attention until a young girl of about six or seven years of age sneaked past and without a word took hold of the hands of Isidora Smirnov and Rosa Ayanami without breaking dance step she casually danced a few steps without really realising where she was before catching the eyes of a bodyguard who simply lowered his sunglasses and shot her a look which made the girl let go and send her skipping ahead. Prince Christian spotted the girl go ahead of their group, do a cartwheel out of nowhere and then carry on dancing much to his amusement.

It wasn't a long or difficult walk to the parkland where the Lodge of the Loa was built. It was a large, maybe five story, pure white building in a kind of stepped design. It wasn't a pyramid as such as it didn't have equal sides. Stretching out before it was a single story walled area again ringed by a white wall. It had only one entrance to this area and as they neared it the procession stopped and a set of speakers on the back of a truck were waiting. Benson clambered up onto the flatbed of the truck and took hold of a microphone to address the crowd. "When I became Emperor of Paracambi I was content only to see to the matters of running a nation. I was dedicated to providing nourishment only of our stomachs, what I failed to understand was the fact that I hold a unique position in Mundus. Paracambi is the only nation in our world that can claim to be the home of Vodou. It is the only place which speaks with the Loa and I as its Emperor should have held many conversations with them, but I didn't. I was deaf to their words and guidance but you the people of our nation kept the faith and your example opened my eyes, my ears and most importantly my heart to the Loa. I studied, I listened and now I am so proud to lead you into their new home. First though we must bless this place." Benson leapt down off the truck and headed towards the double wide door that would lead inside. Instead of going inside he stood while a pair of Zangbeto, the nations religious police as such, dressed in woven grass costumes brought over a trio of sheep. Benson withdrew the knife from his belt and took hold of one of the sheep holding it roughly in place with one hand and his legs until confident he had it in position. "To the Loa, accept this offering as a sign of our devotion to you." With a swift and strong cut he severed the sheeps throat the bright red blood gushing onto the floor and across the white clothing he was wearing. While the sheep's life struggled away he manouvered it so the blood flowed across the grass of the parkland and onto the white stone of the Lodge. Once the sheep was done thrashing he smeared blood from his hands on the doorway and then moved to his daughter Sophia. He pressed a bloody thumb to each of her cheeks before repeating the process on his son and brother.

Large TV screens had been erected in the park and now a large group of Zangbeto gathered at the entrance way. Behind the truck a pen of sheep was visible along with a group of four or five Hougons and Mambo's each ready for the next part of the task. What resembled a walking haystack appeared before the foreign guests. "His Imperial Majesty would like you to enter." The man's voice was partly muffled by his outfit but the sweeping arm gesture was clear. Prince Christian, the smeers of blood on his face reappeared with his niece Princess Sophia who now had her headscarf tied around her long hair which was piled on top of her head in the local style.

"The blood is the mark that you are with the Loa" Sophia said proudly as she joined them, "everyone here today will get a blessing but only those with tickets for the bit inside will be blessed by my father.....if they want." she added knowing the foreigners may not be willing to accept such a mark. They made their way towards Benson who was now armed with a pot of what was clearly fresh blood.

"Welcome to Paracambi" Benson greeted them for the first time with a thumb dripping in blood ready for any who wished to accept the mark. "I would like to talk with each of you but sadly my thumb is about to get a work out." He looked at the large line forming behind the VIP's and once he'd seen them go past he set about marking each of the faithful entering the lodge.

Besarian and his future wife Isidora hadn't really expected to walk all the way to the Lodge. Isidora hadn't really selected the most sensible of footwear under her long dress. As the little girl grabbed her hand Isidora jumped but then couldn't help but laugh as without a care the girl headed off and cartwheeled along. It showed Isidora just how excited and joyous the Paracambians were. The faith of Sessifet was long established and now not many grand events in the history of the faith took place except for the re-joining of the Goddess with a new Queen and so today gave an insight into what the history of Lodja may have been like.

As they reached the Lodge Besarian had to admit he was impressed. The building was certainly unique looking and it looked magnifcient and had it been built to Sessifet he would have been delighted. "The Paracambians certainly can build" Besarian announced mainly to Isidora but hoped his hosts also heard the compliment.

Isidora leaned over and lowered her voice and in a whisper stated, "But I don't like their fashion sense" as she stiffled a laugh at the site of the Zangbeto. It was something Besarian would have to speak to her about later. Once she was the Lady of the Conclave she'd be meeting people from a whole host of different nations and cultures and while they may have some weird traditions they would have to be respected at least in public. Besarian gave her a small smile but otherwise didn't respond. They both listened to the Emperors speech and clapped politely at what he said. When it came to the animals being sacrificed Isidora tightly gripped her future husbands hand and nearly screamed. "Poor sheep" she said as she looked at the others awaiting their fate. Even though they'd been warned she didn't expect it to be so blatant and brutal.

As they approached the Emperor it was Besarian who spoke first. "Your Imperial Majesty, its an honour to meet you. I hope it doesn't offend you but I think we would rather forgo the blood" He hoped he hadn't offended, "I believe my wife to be would fear it would ruin her make up." he hoped lightening the situation would be a good way forward. "The Lodge looks beautiful. I can't wait to see inside." The pair passed by the Emperor and began wandering the walled gardens while they waited for the others.

From the two Morelanders it was clear who was the career diplomat and who was the nervous novice. While they made their way through the streets Sir Jacob was at ease chatting with the locals by asking them about the city, the faith, the lodge, even the music at one point Sir Jacob was even a little worried the media may have caught him having a go at playing steel drums but he firmly believed that if you wanted to understand a nation then it was best to indulge yourself in their ways a little. Peter Kade meanwhile was careful not to stray away from the old diplomatic veteran and found it difficult to start just chatting with the general public.

Upon reaching the Lodge the first impressions were of how bright it was with white stone reflecting the tropical sunlight of Paracambi. When the sacrifice took place Sir Jacob noticed Peter squirming a little. "There were times when the Cult sacrificed animals, its still done in some more of the remote villages of East Moreland" Sir Jacob had seen maybe three or four in his life and it hadn't been done in one of the Temples for a few hundred years now. When they approached the now blood smeared entrance Sir Jacob pushed Peter a little ahead of him so he could introduce them to the Emperor.

Peter stuttered a little, "Thank you for the invite Your Imperial Majesty. I'm Peter Kade and this is Sir Jacob from East Moreland." Peter seemed like he was struggling to speak and had already walked past the Emperor preventing the Emperor from smearing him with blood.

Sir Jacob meanwhile stopped and extended a hand towards the Emperor despite there being blood covering them. "Nice to meet you Your Imperial Majesty" Sir Jacob said using his own blood soaked hands to add the blood like he'd seen the Paracambian royals, "Waste not want not hey." Sir Jacob said with the blood now on his cheek. "I hope your Loa like their home." he added before heading off to see Peter. "Unless it annoys Helus or makes us look lesser its always I think best to embrace local customs." He instructed his young protegee as he wandered off to explore the garden.

Duke William had seen some Vodou rituals before when he'd been younger. The laws about animal slaughter in Bakkermaya had been less enforced then and while the Vodou Faith on Walesby was minor on special occasions he knew the practice still continued. Now though the Police often kept an eye out for tell tale signs but fines were usually issued rather than imprisonment. Some of the Vodou community had animals killed in the islands licenced slaughterhouses but asked for the blood to be collected for their rituals. Here though it was clear that the bloodletting was going to be vast. William by no stretch of the imagination was squeamish but he had no desire to watch all these animals being killed.

When Emperor Benson had completed his speech and his killing of the animal Duke William quickly made his way past. "Emperor, on behalf of the small Vodou community of Walesby I wonder if I could have the blessing on their behalf?" He asked wording it in such a way that as a Cultist he wasn't having the blessing but in a way he was like a mail man of the blessing. Once through he found some shade and somewhere to sit while enjoying the view.

Una was seeing many similarities between a Paracambian celebration and the Cenneg, simply replace the steel drums instruments with bagpipes, fifes and drums. People would dance along with the music and ale and whiskey would flow. Una lacked the skill to dance to the metallic music but enjoyed watching those around her joining in. Rather than dancing she followed the group along the road stopping occasionally to take some video or snap a photo on her phone so that she could show her son Jack when she got home. He'd have loved this part of the day but now they were reaching the Lodge she knew the part that wouldn't have made him happy was coming. Una hid towards the back of the group as Benson set himself ready for the sacrifice. The Cenneg were a nation that saw hunting and fishing as almost a national past-time and Una had skinned and gutted a large number of animals herself during her lifetime. What she didn't like to see was an animal being killed for what she saw as no real purpose. They would not be feeding people, it wasn't for its meat or fur it was to make some non existing spirit happy.

As the knife was used Una turned her back hoping that people didn't notice and as she made her way towards the Emperor she was careful to avoid getting any blood on her face. "Thank you for the invite" Una greeted the Emperor, "If you don't mind I'll forgo the blood, as pale as I am I think it wouldn't suit." She hoped the Emperor didn't mind her jest as they walked past.

Walter Armani was happy to remain towards the rear of the group of foreign visitors and soak in the atmosphere. He was no dancer but snapped a few pictures to show people back home of what he had witnessed. As they neared the Lodge Walter was forced to admit that it was an impressive building and having checked before arriving it didn't sit or any particularly important mystic road. He did though wonder how it was possible for the spirits, which he assumed the Loa were to live in a stone carved home. Back home the woods, rivers and groves served as their places of worship with the odd shrine erected only where the roads brought good fortune.

Walter hung back as the animals were being sacrificed. He was used to seeing animals killed as he often hunted to help provide meat for his family. What he couldn't abide though was the animals being killed just for some meaningless ritual. Why would the spirits demand you give them blood when it was the spirits who gave life to animals. There was no need to give the spirits what they already possessed. Walter found himself a spot slightly away from the others.

"Ancient Ones of the Otherworld
Wise People of skill and power
forgive this land for it does not understand your ways.
Open their hearts to truth.
Send these poor animals to a better place.
May there be peace and friendship
always between myself and the Folk"

He whispered his prayer for the dying animals to his spirits that he knew would be watching on and weeping. He did his best to hide his disgust because the need to form diplomatic relationships was made very clear to him by the Regent Princess Brigida. "Emperor Benson, our own Emperor sends his greetings." The truth was the Emperor had done no such thing as he was just a baby really. "Congratulations on a beautiful building project" He held up a hand to show he didn't wish to accept the blood as a blessing. He had already offended the spirits by watching the needless slaughter of the animals but he wouldn't accept their blood. He passed inside the garden area and seeing some elements of nature brought into the place of worship he felt better. He took a small silver coin from his pocket and while no one was looking placed it in the waters. "Ancient Ones of the Otherworld accept this as a request to watch over those of these lands and guide them to truth of your ways." He stood and took in the view before heading over to the Bakkermayan Duke. "I understand Duke William that you've some experience of the Vodou faith, what's it like in Bakkermaya compared to this?"

There were two old sayings that somewhat seemed appropriate to the situation the first was "every dog has its day" which to put it more simply was a nod to everyone having situations that they were more suited to. For the most part the whole backdrop to the day was very much in the ballpark of Bonnie Harper as Minister of Culture, she'd been quickly into her stride and had gone into what might have been called 'networking mode' as she made small talk with those around her, she had the advantage of experience William and Rosa however did not so the two young ambassadors found themselves somewhat like rabbits in headlights only really speaking when spoken to. The Lodge was to put it mildly impressive significantly different in style from worship buildings of the Cult of Namis, to find anything close to this on Achkaerinese soil you'd have to go to the island of Awhaele and seek out the major temples to the Faejeon deities or go looking in the south area of Aelmoor province.

The killing of animals didn't bother William and Rosa though the consequences did bother Bonnie which was where the second old saying seemed appropriate "Four seasons in a day" Bonnie's issue wasn't with the sacrifice itself but with the blood, she was haemophobic which meant she had a fear of blood it wasn't as bad as it had been when she'd been younger, she'd been able to watch the animal sacrifice without trouble but actually being marked with the blood? Having it in contact with her skin? No that was setting off alarm bells in her head, it had contributed to a slight holding back as the others one by one approached the Paracambi Emperor so much so that Rosa took the initiative and approached the Emperor, being a follower of the Cult of Helus she was used to ceremonies involving blood and as Sir Jacob had observed unless it offended Helus it was better to embrace local customs.

"An honour to meet you Your Majesty." Rosa said once the blood was applied, William soon followed suit and then a slightly more relieved and composed Bonnie approached and indicated that she wouldn't be taking the blood before continuing to where the others were, she found somewhere with a calming view and began monitoring her pulse taking a few breaths she slowly calmed her body down.

As the various guests relaxed in the gardens of the Lodge Emperor Benson proceeded to, along with his family,  give blessings to those with passes to allow them access to the Lodge to see its opening, meanwhile the rest of large gathering crowd around the building were blessed by a large number of Hougon and Mamba happy to take bowls of the deep red blood with them to anoint the heads of the faithful. As the last of the guests entered the lodges green gardens Benson appeared his family fanned out behind him. It would have appeared Benson had changed into a reddish pink set of clothing however on closer inspection it was only the slick red blood that had dyed his outfit. He seemed unfazed by the feeling of the thick cold blood on the clothing making it cling to his legs and arms and made his way happily through the crowds. "Please follow us up." He gestured to the foreign guests. "You'll forgive me but ladies please ensure your head is covered before we enter." They had made their way through the gardens and now reached a doorway which featured no actual door within it. "The home of the Loa is open at all times, they must be permitted to come and go as they see fit, the faithful must be able to visit whenever they wish too." Benson explained and watched as two reed clad Zangbeto stood either side of the door inspected Princess Sophia to ensure she had properly affixed her head scarf. Benson had ensured he had explained to these religious enforcers the importance of today and while he didn't want them to forgo their duty to the spirits he also didn't want them to offend the guests from overseas and so the women within the group were given just a casual glance over and so long as their head seemed covered the two men stood in silence.

The inside of the Lodge was in some ways not as impressive as the outside. It was rather dimly lit and had very few seats and those it did have appeared more like long benches than anything else. They were arranged in a kind of diamond shape leaving a large open space in the Lodge's main chamber. The main chamber itself was diamond in outline with the roof looming high above them creating a vast open space decorated with richly coloured wood carvings in the form of masks representing the different Loa. It seemed like to the uneducated eye the masks were haphazardly placed along the walls but each of the four walls represented one of the seasons and the Loa on that wall were at their most comfortable during those periods. For example in the spring there was Ayida-Weddo her mask a writihing mass a brightly coloured snakes for she was of course the "Rainbow Serpant". Arranged around her mask were images of flames, phallic and yonic symbols and farm tools representing her role as the Loa mainly responsible for fertility, fire and the harvest. Prince Christian helped the visitors find a seat. "Its likely to get a little chaotic" the Emperors brother seemed to relish that but pointed to a large table at the side of the hall opposite where they had come in. "That is the alter table that gets used for certain ceremonies, its unlikely to get used today. Next to it you'll see a door. It leads into a walled garden outside, we've instructed the Zangbeto to only allow you guests into it. Should things get too wild then please feel free to have a moment or two." The Prince watched as the chamber began to fill up until finally one of the Zangbeto by the door raised a hand as a signal.

Emperor Benson had gone and stood in the middle of the room a circle of people pressing close around him so that had he reached out a hand he would have touched those on all sides of him. A simple wooden chair was passed over the crowds head and soon Bensen appeared above the crowd standing on the chair. Without any warning to those watching Bensen sang a few words in Paracambian. "Since I was small, I have been singing for the Loa" No sooner had he sung the words than drums were rattled and rather haphazardly the crowd sang back the words. "Oh it wasn’t a little guy who showed me how to sing" Bensen's voiced boomed and echoed around the hall and once more but more unified this time the faithful sang the words back. Bottles of the nations favourite dark rum were already being passed around the Lodge floor as people began to drink. "Oh friends, let me teach the Loa’s songs!" The crowd applauded and then repeated the line back in the same tune the Emperor had. Between him and the assembled masses they were gathering the attention of the Loa ready for the ceremonies. "Ever since my mother’s womb" someone had handed Bensen a bottle of Rum and he took a great swig from it as the crowd sang his own words back to him. From across the room the guests would have seen him then pour a large stream of the thick brown liquid into his son's mouth as he sang the next line. "the great Loa have claimed me. Rejoice." He jumped from the chair and embraced his family as the crowd repeated the final line before the space in the centre became a heaving mass of dancing and drumming. Bensen put an arm around the shoulders of his son Marcus walking him through the crowd towards the area the visitors had been gathered. The Emperor was now looking far from royal, his clothing was stained with the blood from earlier and soaked in rum. The two royals arrived before the guests. "We have greeted the Loa and now we watch and wait" Bensen explained. "The Loa are now according to our faith all around us and if they wish to speak with us they will, when the right question is asked or the right person offers themselves take possession of someone, maybe multiple people at one time." Little pockets of people formed now each with their own chair at the centre and one at a time people climbed onto the chair and sang in the same manner as the Emperor had, those gathered around being friends, neighbours and family sang back as each gave thanks or asked for blessings to individual Loa. Closest to the visitors a young woman of about 20 had climbed up and now sang.

"Father Larak[1], I’m thanking you,
it’s not about the money you gave me.
I came to thank you.
It’s true the yard gave me the calling of the Loa.
When I call the Loa, the Loa hear me.
When I speak to the Loa,
they take care of my problems"

The crowd around her cheered her song as they repeated it and Bensen applauded at the end with them. "I don't know that you girl." he began to explain, "Her outfit though is that of a new Mamba, she's giving thanks for becoming essentially a Priestess." Out of nowhere there was a sudden rush as a group of worshippers split apart there in the centre was a young boy dancing wildly his arms and legs a blur he would freeze momentarily and adopt some kind of pose before becoming a blur once more. Bensen took hold of Princess Una's hand and guided her to get a better view before turning to address everyone behind him. "That boy.....he's been possessed by Father Larak. We can tell by the poses." Bensen pointed to a mask on the wall and almost immediately two Zangbeto appeared with a ladder and took the mask off the wall rushing it through the crowd above their head a passage opened among the dancers allowing them through and they carefully placed the mask on the boys face while he seemingly ignored them and carried on. Soon crowds gathered around him each trying desperately to touch him as he seemingly was possessed by the Loa. "People will be speaking with the Loa now." He moved Besarian's future wife Isidora slightly closer, "Do you hear him." even with Bensen translating for the group what was being said was nonsense. "People will ask their question, but with so many asking at once things get lost and people will hear a message from within the boy's voice and the sound around which answers there question. This is because the Loa guide the words, the sound waves even, to our ears to help us." Across the large room Bensen could see other ladders gathering masks off the wall and for the next hour or so the room became a mess of drum circles, possessed, unpossesed and then reposseded faithful all mixing together in the room filling with the smell of rum, stale blood and sweat. It was perhaps a rather unregal ceremony compared to many but it was clear that the people felt a strong connection to the Loa. It was time though to bring the ceremony to an end and so Benson made his way to the alter table and clambered onto it. It was clear he was no longer totally sober by his climb but he was still more than in control of himself. "PEOPLE!" he yelled and like an army listening to orders then drumming stopped instantly and the dancing and singing stopped except for those who were in the midst of the Loa who even without the rhytmic beat of the drums continued their random dancing. Zangbeto moved close to these people to help ensure they didn't accidently hurt anyone in the midst of their actions. "The Loa have come, they have come and rejoyced with us. They love their new home and they love us. This is the first of a new wave of Lodges I plan to build, first one for each island, then more and more. We have been today so happy to welcome those from East Moreland, Achakerin, Ui Cenneslaig, Lodja, Bakkermaya and Aosta to witness the day. They are the first from outside our homeland to see such a ceremony and from the bottom of our hearts I thank them for not believing so many awful movies about Vodou Dolls and Zombies.......we save them purely for Tamora......" the Emperor grinned and the crowd laughed enjoying his jab at the slavers. "I hope our guests will take the knowledge that our faith brings all together equally, happily and rejoycefully to their homes and here and now officially on record I ask those of you who can to speak to your Heads of Government, to your Heads of State to allow us, at the Empire's expense, to construct a Lodge in your capital. I ask that you permit a delegation of those here today to come and welcome the Loa to your nations. You have each today meet the Loa and seen them and I know that even though they know you are yet to take them to your heart you came in honest friendship so they will watch over you and your people." The crowd applauded and as the noise still echoed a young boy in a mask oblivious to where he was in his trance came close. Zangbeto didn't stop him but kept a close watch to make sure he didn't trouble the guests too much. The boy was in his early teens and wearing the mask of a female Loa, a Loa dedicated to love and happiness. He seemed to make gestures in his dance towards Besarian and then Isidora. Benson as a trained Hougon watched on interpreting the motions along with several others gathered. Before Benson could explain the crowd began singing and dancing again. Benson was forced to move close to the couple and speaking loud enough for everyone to hear explained what was happening. "Gerau is an Loa of long marriages. She is preparing great happiness for you two. She says even when this world falls apart the bond of yours will not. Its a very very promising and happy blessing." He shook Besarains hand and then kissed Isidora on the cheek. Benson once more jumped onto the alter table landing slightly awkwardly. " Tonight we celebrate all the blessings we have received. TO THE BEACH" He pointed towards the door and people began hurrying towards the door.

Christian waited for the locals to leave and then marvelled at the Lodge, what had been a pristine chamber was now a mess, broken bottles, rivers of rum and some blood from sacrifices people had brought, there were even items of clothing littering the floor. The Zangbeto were already getting busy with brooms brushing out the reeds they'd put on the floor to soak up the inevitable booze. As each person left the Lodge though they placed something, be it money or an item in one of several buckets by the door. "We are a passionate but messy faith" the Prince laughed as he helped guide Sir Jacob and Rosa Ayanami between a mound of what looked like a pair of trousers, a wooden mask and crate of now empty rum bottles. "I think someone is going to have a tough morning tomorrow" Christian said more to himself than anyone as he reached the buckets and removed from his trouser pocket a envelope which he deposited in one of the buckets. The envelope spilled a bundle of banknotes as it hit, Prince Marcus and Princess Sophia were doing likewise in different buckets while Benson brought up the rear with a golden necklace and several rings which he placed in the buckets. "Each bucket represents a group the Loa should help, the Old, the sick, the young and the poor" Christian began to explain. "Any cash goes to charities to help those causes, any items are used as is best seen." Each bucket had a Zangbeto watching over it and as the royals left they began the process of taking them to somewhere secure.

"Now." the Emperor took a large intake of the fresh air outside. In the garden some people were clearly enjoying the sunshine and a few more drinks continuing their singing in praise while others began the move through the gates they'd entered through and turning left down towards the road that would take them to the beach about 1km away. "You have a choice" he addressed his invited guests. "I clearly need a shower and a new suit" He held his arms wide showing the state his own clothing, now stained, stinking and ripped, had been reduced to. "I however would love to speak with you all properly. So if you wish to freshen up yourself we can have cars take you to your accommodation, naturally if we wish to see the celebrations continue then we can have you escorted to the beach, sadly that's a walk though. There you'll find the Paracambians starting their own beach parties but we have a nice venue for a bite to eat there which will allow us to see the celebrations but have some privacy. I will see you there in an hour, assuming I can get the smell of rum out of my beard." He bowed to his guests as he excused himself leaving several smartly dressed aides to help the guests with whatever they wanted to do or see.

Having reached the fresh air outside Sir Jacob began to take stock of what he had witnessed. In all his years of diplomatic service he'd never really experienced a ceremony that was as exhilirating while at the same time horrifying as what he had just been enveloped by. At first he had found the scenes of chaos rather amusing, hap hazard singing of different tunes spreading through the crowd with an energy of excitement by the locals. Then the blood letting had begun and even though the Cult of Helus featured blood in some of its ceremonies they never required the rivers that seemed to flow here. Add to the stench of death the sickly aroma of rum and the sweaty bodies things began to go downhill to the point Sir Jacob was toying with making a slow move towards the door their host had told them about earlier. He didn't however as on second thoughts he believed such an action would perhaps be perceived as disrespectful.  Now he was back outside in the fresh air he took deep lung fulls of it to clear the smell from his system. It would be quiet an interesting report to make to the King when he returned home.

Peter meanwhile had found it all rather exciting. It was certainly more lively than celebrations of his own faith where the faithful were equally as happy but less visibly so. The room seemed to be full of energy and there was always something to see whether it was the strange religious enforcers of the Zangbeto or the colourful masks worn by the faithful. It was something the young man suspected he would only witness once during his life and so he was keen to take it all in. As Peter left the lodge he passed by the buckets and took from the inside of his jacket pocket his wallet. He emptied it of the few bank notes inside, a small gesture to the local community before taking from the other pocket a small dagger engraved with the coats of arms of the provinces of the Empire of Paracambi and an inscription on the blade stating it was a gift from East Moreland, a finely crafted dagger from the royal swordsmith. He carefully placed it in the bucket as instructed by Christian.

Peter and Jacob reconvened outside and shared their thoughts on the event, "So do you think we'll go to the one in Northfort when they build a lodge there?" Peter asked Jacob and the pair laughed.

"I think seeing that once is enough for me. Vodou appears to be a young man's game." Jacob thought for a moment and inspected his clothing, "I think apart from my shoes we came through that unscathed" He tried his best to wipe some kind of mess on his left toe on the grass from his previously meticulously shined shoes. "I think we should head to the beach and find this venue. We do after all have a reputation of good punctuality to maintain." The two Morelanders turned to follow the crowd enjoying the sounds of the music ahead of them. They stopped and chatted with a few people on the beach before heading to the venue and finding a seat with a couple of rum cocktails while they waited for the others.

"Do you think David will allow them to build a Lodge in Northfort?" Peter asked as he sipped his drink from a coconut.

"I think he will." Jacob nodded, "After all I can't see more than a handful of people ever going and the King has said he has no issue with people building places of worship, so long as its not taller than the Temple of Helus. I think this one may be nearly as tall." Jacob nodded towards the Lodge in the distance from them. "But I wouldn't be surprised if something was done to stop animal sacrifice like we saw. We'll tell the Emperor we will recommend the King let him build." Jacob realised he was technically out ranked by Peter who was a noble by birth being after all the King's cousin meanwhile Jacob had just been lucky enough to raise up the ranks through his knighthood. Jacob was also supposed to be helping mentor Peter in the ways of international diplomacy and so added some words, "That is of course if you think that's wise."

"I agree" Peter said as he waved a waiter over and ordered another drink, "Please, no umbrella in this one" Peter grinned at the server, he didn't think it very appropriate to be at a diplomatic meeting with a brightly coloured paper umbrella sticking out from his drink when the others arrived.

Walter found the whole display disheartening. The sheer madness of it all and the fake appearences of spirits didn't sit well with him. He had understood the nature of Vodou from his reading prior to arrival but he fully believed that you could only understand things once you had witnessed them and so had been willing to give the faith a chance, he now had determined it was abhorrent. While the Paracambian's had been welcoming and hospitable he didn't feel that he needed to see much more and was grateful when Prince Christian ushered them out back into the fresh air. He had dropped a few trinkets into the buckets, a small medallion with the spirit of the Forest etched into it and a bracelet made out of various stones found across Aosta. It would he hoped be enough to show respect for his hosts while to his own conscious not reward the sham he had just seen.

Walter once outside was more hopeful of being able to meet socially with those in attendance. He wouldn't hold a person's faith against them because he was sure a person could be a good person regardless of what they believed in, they clearly though would just be shocked and suffer when Clíodhna took them to be judged. For Walter was confident that when the time came to hand over his physical body back to nature his spirit would walk with Clíodhna and easily tell the difference between the spirits of good and evil. People like the Paracambians sadly would be more of a lottery in their choice of which spirits to reside with.

His religious musings to one side Walter made the decision to head down to the beach. He found a quiet point and consulted an app on his phone. It was one designed back home and showed you where the mystic roads of his religion ran. The entire of Mundus was criss crossed by them some carrying good energy others bad. While he couldn't find a perfect fit on his app for his prayer he did note that some 20km away off the coast a cross roads of positive energy existed and so he sat in the beaches dunes and faced it. He closed his eyes and thought before quietly mumbling some words only just loud enough for him to hear.

"Ancient Ones of the Otherworld
Wise People of skill and power
Forgive me for what I have seen today.
Grant my wise words to help guide
Allow your spiritual power to cleanse my heart.
May there be peace and friendship
always between myself and the Folk"

He rose from his prayer and brushed the sand off his backside before heading towards the spot where he had noticed the Morelanders sitting. He ordered himself a small beer and having heard the youngest of the two Moreland diplomats order some fancy cocktail asked to join them. "Sir Jacob, I must apologise is it Lord Peter, I am woefully unbrieffed it appears." He extended a hand to each of them. "May I join you." He took a seat (assuming they did). "My name is Walter, I'm an aide to the Regents of Aosta." he introduced himself suspecting his name would not be on any briefing list. "I must say that was rather a loud ceremony." He thanked the waitress who had brought him the beer, "How have you found the trip so far?" he asked Peter first.

William expected that out of all the foreign guests it would be him who was perhaps the most at ease with the Vodou prayer service, if that was what you could call it. His home island of Walesby had a small number of Vodouists and he'd witnessed some of their outdoor ceremonies at a distance. He had always seen it as a faith full of energy and today he was certainly able to confirm that. He found it at times hard to not laugh out loud at some of the sights he saw as people danced and cavorted in masks with the walking bushes of the Zangbeto wandering around. In his advance years though the Duke did feel the need to take a few backwards steps and so found somewhere to sit while he was able to watch what was going on around him. Truth be told he was thankful the event ended when it did as he was close to having to take a few steps outside to catch some fresh air.

As with the others he passed the bucket and put in a small bag containing some trinkets given to him from the Vodou community back home, some small carvings on bone of the Loa, a few small precious stones and gems. At talk of visiting the beach his mind was cast to the usual weekend parties and events of his homeland and in his youth he'd always enjoyed them. He was though now a good 60 years more senior than when he had been a willing partaker in the all night beach parties and so he excused himself to return to his accommodation and have a quick shower and nap before getting a driver to take him to the venue

Benson returned to the Palace and began to shower rather enjoying the feeling of getting all the sticky congealed blood from off his skin. He had been pleased the ceremony had gone as well as it did although he was rather annoyed that he now owed his brother Christian a crate of fine rum because non of the foreigners had thrown up he had put every faith into the fact that Isidora would have. He was even more pleased that his people had been so thrilled at the day. He'd spoken with many of those in attendance during the chaos and each had been falling over themselves to tell him what they liked about the Lodge, he'd tried to halt a smile though when one young man of about 18 had spoken of soon there being one in every country on Mundus. It was something his nation would need to get through their heads that not everyone recognized the truth and power of Loa as Paracambi did, why even the whole of the Empire didn't accept Vodou as their faith so why would the rest of Mundus? He hadn't dented the young man's feelings though and instead had just simply thought about how some of the younger and poorer elements of Paracambi lacked that real knowledge of the world beyond their Principalities. Refreshed and smelling more or mint and tea tree oil now than death the Emperor readied himself to meet with the guests once more.

The King arrived at the beach front restaurant and was pleased to see that his brother Christian was already arriving along with the Emperor's children Marcus and Sophia. He was happy to see everyone (OOC-Assuming everyone is here) sat enjoying a sociable drink on the terreace. "Good evening" The Emperor greeted everyone as he appeared. "I hope they've been looking after you." He began going around shaking all the men by the hand while kissing the ladies gently on the cheek. "This restaurant is a favourite of our family. Its been around nearly 50 years. I remember my parents brought us here as a special treat, or in Christians case once made him work for a week in the kitchen washing pots for getting in trouble at school. Perhaps brother they still have an opening?" Benson teased him. "I also threatened Marcus with a similar fate once or twice." The Emperor motioned to a man with a thin layer of snowy white hair cresting his head and almost immediatley the man appeared. "This is Curtis, he opened the place and can't bare to let it go." The two embraced warmly as friends as Curtis arrived. "I think Curtis we are ready for our table."

"Of course Emperor." Curtis helped slide Isidora's chair out as she was sat closest to him and offered her his arm. "It is not everyday I get to show my favourite table to such beautiful women." He headed off towards the back of the restaurant to where a velvet rope and curtain concealed a spiral stairway that lead down. He guided the ladies hand to the rail and then going before her circled his way downward the air getting slightly cooler as they went til soon the opressive heat of the night above was fading. Once they stopped their spinning descent the stairway opened up into a large cave, its walls glistening with some mineral that twinkled in the strategically placed lamps. A long table stood in the middle and to one side a small brightly illuminated pool of turquoise water. "I hope everything is to the Emperor's satisfaction." Curtis beamed proud of his hideaway table for special guests and special occasions. "Tonight we shall be serving a variety of local fish, so local that it practically threw itself out the pool" he gestured to the nearby water where it did infact appear some small fish swam but whether or not these were on the menu was another matter. "We also will be having some island specialties from our chef's homeland of Alemba." With that Curtis ascended and some white uniformed waiting staff appeared pulling out each guests chair and then placing with elegance a large napkin across their knees before a convoy of staff appeared pouring each a glass of red and white wine and of water.

The Emperor had a few things he wished to get out before the food arrived. "Firstly I'd like to thank each of you and your nations for allowing you to come. I was nervous knowing the reputation of our faith has that it would be an invitation refused. There was obviously other reasons for inviting you and while this will not apply to those of you from the TUNA nations as much I hope you will still listen to my request and if you can not give me an answer now relay it to your government and support it." He paused, "As you know my nation's heritage is strongly tied to anti-slavery. We have taken action in the past and we hope to do so now. Currently all of you who are not connected to TUNA have to pay import duties on goods being brought into the Empire. What I propose is that any of you outside TUNA have my word that these will, for the next five years, be removed on two conditions. The first is that we enjoy similar treatment by your nations and the second is that any trade you have with Tamora, or any slave holding nation is either stopped or at the worst the Freestone Silver  or Gold standard is all that is permitted. It is my dream that we can one day see Mundus devoid of slavery. The second thing I wish to ask of you is for help opening the eyes of my young people to Mundus. It became apparent to me that many of them will only ever know their island and perhaps the Empire's mainland. There is much more out there. It is my hope that in the coming days I can put in place a system to support people to travel for work experience, cultural experiences and study. I would therefore like you to agree to work with what I'm probably going to call the Emperor's Youth Ambassadors to see if I can't enrich their lives. So would a youth visa for those who are members of this group and under the age of 25 be able to be waived or fast-tracked?"

Christian nodded to his brother as the waiters appeared carrying a plate with a small silver dome atop. They placed them down in front of the guests and once all where in place removed the domes with a flourish to reveal a small plate about the size of an outstretched hand. In the centre was a soufflé, "Crab Souffle" the apparent head waiter announced, "Enjoy your first course." He and his team of white uniformed staff walked away as neatly as a regiment of guardsman leaving the dinners to enjoy the food and hopefully tell the Emperor their thoughts.

Walter Armani had to admit that this restaurant was rather special. The setting was something he'd never seen before and if the food was as interesting as the venue then he was pretty confident that it would be a good meal. He was rather pleased that the Emperor seemed intent to discuss business matters as making small talk was something he never considered a strength and he suspected that as someone the royals wanted to use for this kind of occasion he suspected he may need to improve that. "Any decision on the matters you've asked about are in need of approval by the Regents. I am confident however that on most of them you'll find the Empire happy to accommodate. You're a member of TUNA and it is an organization that we have some interest in building links short of full membership with. As such you can rest assured our nation will have nothing to do with helping the slave trade. I think you'll find the Regents are already enforcing the ideas you talk about and would welcome the trade conditions you propose. As for the second matter of a youth visa I suspect that as we would see easing of travel conditions one of the things we would like with TUNA that the agreement of a fast tracked youth visa a step towards that in the short term. If it eases Your Imperial Majesties mind then I'll be recommending that we accept both your proposals." Having given his view on behalf of the Empire he left the discussion to others while he tucked into the crab souffle.
