New Derusmia and the Orphelia Imperium
« on: May 30, 2019, 10:20:47 AM »

To Governess Niru of the Orphelia Imperium,

It has come to our attention that nation has recently exited isolation and are willing to go forth with diplomatic relations. And as East Moreland has already welcomed you to Mundus, I feel that now is a good time to start diplomatic relations.

I plan to visit your capital city, Novox, where we could talk about our economies, industry, and if possible, an economic relationship that would benefit both our nations greatly, and also about joining the recently founded South Ardian New Electorate. Furthermore, both our nations are specialised in our welfare systems, so we could also discuss and go over the betterment of said systems, and benefit both our nation’s welfare. All of this will be talked over, of course, at a time of your choosing.

I await your kind reply,

I would be honored to host you in Novox. I believe a relationship between our nations could yield much for the both of us, and there is much to discuss. As such, please arrive at Novox at your earliest convenience.

Signed,
Governess Niru, Matriarch of the Omega Bloodline

Niru was wanting for the New Derusmia delegation outside of the tent city. They had been about to tear down the tents that were raised for the East Moreland talks when the letter from the foreign nation came. Instead, Niru had order that the tents be expanded, made into more formal and semi-permanent structures. Because of the religious law that non-believers couldn't enter Novox proper, Orphela would need a place to entertain foreign officials. Of course there was alway the nearby city of Foshir, but that felt like the wrong solution.

Niru breathed deeply as the transport helicopter carrying the foreigners touched ground. They had flown into Foshir and had to be transported to Novox. Novox, of course, wasn't a city in the proper sense. It was a collection of a couple of temples and beautiful structures that the ruling class of the Imperium lived and ruled from. It was indeed, the Court of the Seraphim.

The Governess had learned her lesson from the meeting with East Moreland. This time she waited alone. Of course her honor guard, the Imperial Blades, were in eye sight. She had made sure to pick her more liberal guards. The no touching the Governess rule was a bit extreme to outsiders, and Niru would rather avoid an incident. She also had gotten the High Seer to approve that no Castrate needed to be here the for the meeting to ensure proper decorum was followed. It was a great victory for the Governess. She smiled at the thought. "President: Ebston Feish, please allow me to welcome you to Orphela. I hope your journey was pleasant.

During both the plane ride to the Imperium and the helicopter ride to Novox, Ebston spent his time studying about the intriguing and very much mysterious Orphela Inperium. There was much to know about the nation before he arrived and met the governess. It was certainly hard trying to find information because the nation had just came out of isolation, the only trusted source of information he could find was excerpts from the capital’s local radio, NPR. Anyways, after some hard research, he had managed to find enough info that he wouldn’t humiliate himself and of course, the entirety of New Derusmia.

The helicopter finally landed at its designated area, and a door was opened. President Feish and his associates finally walked down the ramp and took his second steps into the Orphela Imperium.

The Governess struggled to keep her distance from the President without seeming rude. Despite her liberalness, she was still extremely religious and would rather not commit a sin. "I'm very excited for these talks, you are after all the first nation in this region that I get to meet with. Hopefully the two of us will be able to forge a long and lasting relationship between us." As the introductions were finished, Niru lead her guests from the field into a seemingly random tent. It was a rather large one, decorated quiet lavishly. In the center of the room was a large wooden table that could accommodate everyone and more. There was jasmine tea and water waiting at every seat. "Please come sit." Niru motioned to the chairs before talking her seat at the head of the table. As everyone started to sit a single Blade entered and stood silently at the door way, his eyes seeming to glaze over the crowd.

"So President Feish, where would you like to begin our talks?"

As the President walked along with the Governess, he looked around at the surroundings. The whole area had been filled with tents, some of which were occupied, and in the distance was the capital city, Novox, recognisable by its temples.

The President replied to the Governess’ question, saying “I’d like to talk about trade. I believe that trade agreements with both our nations could benefit us greatly. I believe that your nation’s main industries are basically things that come out of the ground, petrochemicals, metals, minerals, oil, whatnot. This is great, because New Derusmia is in dire need of metals. Now, I haven’t seen much info on what your nation imports. I’d like really to know so that we could establish some sort of trade agreement?”

Niru smiled, starting the economics meant President Feish was likely a more logical man. Figure out the numbers and then worry about everything else. If true, it means that dealing with him would be straight and to the point. Which was simple enough to her. "Yes, Orphela is rich in natural resource, but quite lacking in some specific necessities. Perhaps the most important is food and other agricultural products. We basically lack any large portion of fertile land to farm on leading to a heavily reliance on foreign agricultural industries. It is my understanding that New Derusmia is heavily involved in agriculture, if so we both directly have resources the other needs. As such, open trade between us would be a great benefit."

Without hesitation, Ebston smiled, and said “Alright, it’s a deal. We’ll reduce all tariffs on agriculture products, and I’m guessing you’ll do the same for your products?”

"Yes, there is only one stipulation, well more of a precaution. Because of our economic isolation, we are in the process of slowly reducing what are rather hefty protective tariffs across the board. I'd be willing for an almost immediate removal of tariffs on agriculture products and metals and minerals. Of course, I would also hope that we could work toward totally opening trade between the two of us, a complete removal of tariffs. But if you are interested in this, I ask that this occurs slowly over some time. This is so that the Nitehymn market isn't overwhelmed by foreign competition." Niru was being overly cautious despite the fact that New Derusmia would only be the second nation the Imperium would have an economic agreement with. But with RSCU talks to be held soon, she wasn't sure what the national economic landscape would look like soon.

“Ah, of course. I understand completely, he spoke. “Our nation will be able to gradually remove our tariffs.” He took a sip of water. “Is there anything else you’d like to bring up before we move on to diplomacy?”

Niru nodded as she sipped her tea. Diplomacy could be the big talking point of the day. "I have no objections. When it comes to the South Ardian New Electorate, I'm sure you can understand I have hesitations. Given the feelings between both SANE and Rokkenjima, it puts the Imperium in a hard place. And a dangerous one. Now before we go down the rabbit hole of this whole matter, can I ask you for your version of what caused the rift? I've of course been able to get bits and pieces of information, but never a concrete full story. With knowledge comes perspective, yes?"

“Ah, of course. I understand.” Ebston took another sip of water and held the glass in his right hand. “Now, about the story of SANE, you might want to sit down for this one.” He placed the glass back down on the table.

“It all began with the Second Imperial Chinese Republic’s liberation of, if I remember correctly, 12 million slaves from Tamora by paying for them. This angers Rokkenjima, so they enact sanctions against the SICR. In response to this, New Derusmia enacts sanctions on Rokkenjima. This also angers Rokkenjima, and Emperor Beatrice which gives New Derusmia an extremely vague warning of 48 hours. Long story short, all nations are invited to the Ardian Assembly, and afterwards, the Emperor-Admiral invites King Lapu and I to Nanjing, where an alliance is talked over. Eventually, the talks are a success, and SANE is founded.” Ebston took a final sip of water. “And that’s about it. Is there anything more you needed to know?”
