On the Present Crisis: Situation Update 29/03/2020

Statement on behalf of President Nguessa:

As Mundus becomes aware of the ongoing crisis in Merina, also has come a large degree of misinformation regarding the situation in our country. Certain groups, including the so-called "Free Merinan Association" under the traitor Charles van de Mar-Ekembitoto, have actively sought to undermine the valiant efforts of our security forces in confronting the rebellious and terroristic elements threatening our nation.

Merinan security forces are currently engaged in operations across multiple theaters, fighting to keep our people safe. Travel restrictions are in place in these operational areas, in addition to a blanket advise (particularly to foreigners) not to travel beyond one's local area unless absolutely necessary. All practicable measures are being taken to prevent civilian lives and livelihoods in this conflict, though on occasion our brave soldiers have been unable to prevent atrocities committed by our enemies.

Given the severity of the situation, in the coming days we shall be introducing the following emergency measures:

  • Limited Mobilization of Reserve Forces - Reservists are to be activated on a limited basis, in order to accelerate a conclusion of the conflict while minimizing economic disruption as far as possible.
  • Essential Supply Procurement Initiative - State agencies are to put contingency measures in place to ensure the continued availability of essential civil and military supplies.
  • State of Emergency for Effected Regions - Emergency powers are in effect across conflict-hit regions, this with immediate effect.

These shall be in place for the foreseeable future, likely until the conclusion of the present situation.

Any further question, queries or requests for clarification should be directed through this office.

Ministry of Defence Flash Alert: Shaw Incident 12/04/2020

Statement of behalf of Merinan National Armed Forces General Staff:

While undertaking a routine maritime patrol, at 05:00 yesterday (12/04/20) the Merinan National Navy vessel Chiwara came under attack from what is believed to be a hostile submarine. Chiwara sustained heavy battle damage in the action, while two civilian vessels which she was accompanying were lost to enemy fire.

The Merinan National Armed Forces are currently engaged in active operations in the area; civilian traffic is inadvisable until the conclusion of these.

Those responsible for this unprovoked attack will be found, and will be brought to justice.

Statement on Merinan-Tamoran Security Assistance

The Ministry of Defense are pleased to announce the formation of the Tamoran Security Assistance Force (TSAF), following the conclusion of successful bilateral security talks and the arrival of Tamoran forces in Merina. This partnership will greatly increase the capabilities of our brave security forces in their fight against terrorism, with the stalwart men and women of TSAF joining the fight on the ground and in the air.

In response to certain comments from foreign powers regarding the announcement of this arrangement by the Tamoran Imperial Press Office, we would like to pass on the following statement from the Merinan Armed Forces' Chief of Staff, Marshal Alium Deumi: "The Empire of Tamora have proven themselves our foremost ally since this crisis began, and have offered substantial assistance to us in our struggle to combat these terrorist and restore peace to our country. Neither the Kingdom of Tytor, nor the Empire of Rokkenjima, have offered us a shred of support thus far in this crisis, and in fact we have intelligence to suggest they may be preparing to do quite the opposite. I, for one, believe that the leaders of these nations ought re-consider their positions - they could learn much from the noble actions of our Tamoran friends"

Statement on Security Operations in Makeni Region

The Ministry of Defence would like to address a recent piece of rebel disinformation which has been circulating online recently.

This highly disreputable source claims that the honorable soldiers of our nation have committed a mass chemical weapons attack against the hive of rebel scum presently infesting Makeni. Such accusations are entirely baseless; the Merinan National Armed Forces consider the use of chemical weapons, and unprovoked attacks against noncombatants, entirely abhorrent. While MNAF units are, indeed, operating in this area as part of a general offensive against terrorist elements in the region, we have no reason to perpetuate such an evil act against the very people we are working to liberate.

We do believe that some kind of chemical weapon release has occurred in Makeni in recent days, and pledge a full investigation of this in the fullness of time. We have evidence to suggest that terrorist forces have been producing chemical warfare agents in the area, and a preliminary report from the Adjutant General suggests that this may be a false-flag attack precipitated as part of a concerted conspiracy to manipulate the international community to support their foul intentions. In this event, this would emphasise the ruthless evil that we are confronting, and will only stiffen our resolve to bring the perpetrators to justice.
