65% SUPPORT "GENETIC WELLBEING" DECREE
Yesterday the Queen issued a new Decree that will impose on the nation several new controls onto the citizens of Salus Nova. Among the controls are tighter checks for marriage licences, genetic screening for couples seeking IVF and harsh punishments for people harming unborn children. As always as news broke the  team at MyScoop ventured onto the streets to find out what the people of the nation think of the new rules. In our survey of around 1000 random individuals 65% of the nations agreed fully with the decree, with a futher 14% saying they agreed with the majority of the decree. The most contentious part of the decree was the part that stated that genetic screening would be used for parents seeking IVF and that this would be used to create embryo's with "desirable traits." One young lady we spoke to said "My concern is the decree doesn't give enough detail on what these traits are, will they turn around and say we only want males or we only want people with certain skin colour. This is a slippery slope for me. While I trust our Queen now what happens if her successor is racist and determines that only white Salusians are "desirable". I think the decree should have clearly explained what the non desired traits are. I'm all for us using technology like screening to ensure no child is born with conditions that will limit or damage a childs quality of life."

Others though were fully supportive with one 21 year old man interviewed saying. "I know its best for the children I'll have one day if they will be healthy as this means they have a better chance of being happy. If we can ensure that a child doesn't have to go through conditions like Cystic Fibrosis or later have to handle the fear of Huntingtons then that is incredible. If we can give children better lives we need to do this." With the nation having a very low birth rate, just 77,000 people were born last year while around 110,000 people died. This means we are as a nation reaching a kind of tipping point with our population declining. The issue will also be as people are living longer there will come a time when our pension aged population will not be able to be supported by the workers. This leads some to fear that making it harder for people to have children will exacerbate this crisis. This however has been counter-argued by some saying that with the measures put in place it is likely that while our birth rate may drop our death rate may also drop meaning that there is a chance the two will either see a narrowed gap or a switch.

Some commentators have called upon the Queen to take even more drastic action. One professor has argued that Salus Nova has a limited gene pool. "Our nation has seen very very low levels of immigration over the past 500 years. Compared to the rest of Mundus we may even have the lowest on the planet when seen over say the last decade. This means our genetic pool is quiet small compared to many and this means it is more likely that we shall see genetic weaknesses. We as a nation based on the faith of the Starborn are supposed to try and be as strong as possible yet we are building upon ever weaker foundations. If I was advising the Queen I would urge her to look at controlled and monitored migration projects."

While the new laws have not come into effect yet many are already preparing studies to monitor their impact.

SACRED COUNCIL SUGGEST SOCIAL MEDIA BAN
Yesterday the nations Sacred Council debated the concept of a nationwide ban on social media for those under the age of 16. The proposal was put forward by councilwoman Calpurnia Pioc who has suggested that the nations psychologists have seen an increase in mental health issues amongst the nations nations youth over the past decade. Studies support her assertion and as a result she has put forward legislation that would see operators of social media have to take steps to ensure any individual in Salus Nova yet to celebrate their 16th birthday is unable to access accounts on platforms such as Facebook, TikTok or Snapchat. Councilwoman Pioc said "I am tired of seeing in our schools issues that stem from students accessing social media while unable to handle the issues that come from it. We see youngsters bombarded by social influencers attempting to guide their lives but who care little for them but are only interested in the money these platforms distribute for those who drive content to their site. That content is often harmful, racist, misoginistic and in some case dangerous. Young people have yet to develop the ability in some cases to work out the good from the bad, the dangerous from the safe. Social media providers need to be better at protecting our young people." The proposals put forward would not see any Salusian breaking the age requirement punished but would instead see inaction from social media companies punished.

The proposal was voted upon by the Sacred Council with 42 voting to support a ban and 22 opposing it. This means that the proposal will be put before the Queen advising her to an issue a decree.
