PROFESSOR TO LEAD CONCLAVE

Professor Dominika Popova has today become the first female leader of the Conclave in 300 years. The 55 year old is the Duchess of Kisokan and also the Sheriff of Inarigda, two significant former coal mining areas that have become part of a large hydro-electric generation scheme. The announcement was made this morning during a series of proclamations connected to the Queen's intended reshuffle of the nations highest council, the Conclave. The first announcement signalled that this would be some major shake up when it was announced that Lord Lubos Kubik, the current leader of the Conclave, would be stepping down. The 77 year old assumed the position following the nations recent civil war and was the Minister of Defence before that. In her proclamation the Queen said, "Lubos has served the Queendom since he turned 18, first in military uniform and then as a minister. He was one of the most respected and incorruptable army officers we have ever had and much of the push to reform our military came from him. He has now earned a very long and happy retirement but he has assured me, as you would expect from a man of dedication such as him, that should I ever need his advice or guidance then he is only a phone call away. He has agreed to remain in the Palace for the next few weeks to help our new Conclave get up to speed." Moments later the announcement confirming his replacement came. "Duchess Dominika is more than qualified to fulfil this role. She has overseen an ambitious and innovative project in her home estates, she is a Professor of Geographical Studies and a well respected scholar. She has held a multitude of local government roles and I'm aware of many members of the Conclave seeking her advice from time to time. She is a perfect example of someone who is very wise and very well versed in the culture of Sessifetism. I am confident she will help me shape my vision for what I want Lodja to be moving forward."

Duchess Dominika later said that she was "honoured to be able to break 300 years of convention and serve the Queen." She is expected to arrive on the Isle in the next few days and will be joined on the new look Conclave by 10 other new members in a council of 18 individuals. Duke Maxim Schnoor retains his place as Minister of Education and Lord Besarian Ivanov remains as a special envoy. The swearing in ceremonies of the new members will take place over the weekend and will utilise the new cameras set up in the Conclave's venue to allow the public to witness the ceremony for the first time. The Queen has confirmed that one seat remains unfilled and that is for the Tribune of the Plebs who she hopes to have in place by the end of the month.

Mktvartvelo passes Mktvartvelo-Rokkenjima Customs Proposal State Act

The National Assembly passed the Mktvartvelo-Rokkenjima Customs Proposal State Act by a 227-205 vote.

The legislation will and compeal the Ministry of the Treasury to immediately reduce tariffs to the same level to the tariffs imposed on Mktvartvelian economy or companies by the First Empire of Rokkenjima.

More than one hundred MPs abstained from the vote, including all Liberal Democratic Party representatives. The Liberal Democratic Party parliamentary group speaker Orivegza Mgaloblishvili declared that "while we support reducing tensions and restoring trade relations with the First Empire [of Rokkenjima], we believe it should be done through diplomacy, not legislative acts".

National Renovation voted against the legislation calling it "an attempt to cave to Rokkenjiman demands through a pseudo-legal backdoor". National Renovation's General Secretary Levan Mikaberidze declared that the act shows that "this government has an already determined expiration date and the better this weak government ends, the better for the well-being and future of the nation".

Prime Minister Tamriko Tskhovrebadze has expressed her satisfaction about the successful passing of the legislation, declaring it shows the willingness of the government to close a negative and unpractical, in both ends, diplomatic conflict.

Hospitals...

There were a few things that Serenity didn't like, hospitals were high up the list she'd spent so much of her life in and out of them for one reason or another whether it be aplastic anaemia, pregnancy, leg surgery, physiotherapy or live liver transplant. And that was just her involvement, added to that were the various visits with her daughters and those always made her feel even worse, which ultimately made this one the worst yet. Serenity was no stranger to the scalpel, her left leg was a testament to that, but for her younger daughter Astrid this was a first, at eight years old, it was experimental surgery and it was part of the Scrivens Medical trial into reversing hearing loss. If things went as hoped then it was possible that Astrid's would be reversed. Serenity was sat in the hospital room that had been set aside for Astrid, there wasn't a bed as the surgery was in progress but there were a handful of Astrid's keepsakes on the bedside table there was her trio of soft toys a little teddy bear and two pokemon ones a Vulpix and a Pikachu, there was a team Achkaerin baseball cap from the Mundus Games and there also a white and blue patterned ocarina.

"Val's outside pacing and you're in here." Euphy said referring to Astrid's translator.
"Can't manage to take my mind off of it." Serenity said as Val came in with three paper cups of tea.
"It's going to be a long one." Val said handing the cups out "I've never been this nervous." she sat down.
"That makes two of us and I'm counting the Mundus Games." Serenity said
"Three and I married you." Euphy said

"What are we going to do for Dad's birthday?" Serenity said rubbing her eyes, it was a change of topic brought out of needing to move her focus away from the operating theatre and think about anything else.
"Surprise party?" Val suggested "He'll never see it coming."
"Star Wars music and all." Euphy said "I'll bust out the harpsichord for it."
"Do you all play a musical instrument?" Val asked
"Mum's influence." Serenity said, meaning Iona Azurewind her father's first wife "But yeah we do. Beatrice plays the organ, I play piano, Euphy's on harpsichord, Simon plays the trumpet, Cerys plays sax, Sakura plays violin, Jack plays guitar, Kyoko plays bass and Evanthe's harp right?"
"Yep." Euphy said "Then Lucinda's pretty good on keyboard."
"Lisa's learning the drums, Astrid's not bad with her ocarina and then Simon's girls play the clarinet and oboe." Serenity said "Not forgetting Katyusha and her balalaika."
"Quite the orchestra." Val said
"It is isn't it." Serenity said then she giggled "I just had a crazy idea."
"What?" Val asked
"Dad's birthday, what about getting the band back together?" Serenity said

"Now there's a thought." Euphy said sipping her drink "Three and a half months to pull that together."
"For one night at least one night for now." Serenity said "I'm sure we can find enough room in schedules to make it happen."
"Thank goodness Sakura's dating the Youth Orchestra's conductor." Val said
"Want me to make the phone calls?" Euphy asked
"Strike while the iron's hot as they say." Serenity said
"I'm on it." Euphy said
"And I'll talk to Becky when we get home." Serenity said

Juglander Review

Agreement for incoming State Governorate

Betse Coalition announced yesterday that Juglander political parties reached an agreement for the formation of the incoming State Governorate.

There were doubts about the negotiations, giving that the new State Governorate included six different political parties (seven, if the Juglander Citizens Movement is counted as one), with large differences between then in particular regarding relations with the Unitary State of Mktvartvelo.

"We have reached a basic agreement to assure good governance in accordance to the preferences of voters and in respect of minority voices", Betse Coalition spokesperson declared. "It may not be our ideal agreement, and we understand some of our voters may feel that way, but we are satisfied as the mandate of the people will be respected this time", he added. The agreement includes a promise of a "sensible economic and financial policy" and an agreement to improve and expand the sovereignty of the territory through dialogue with Mktvartvelo's authorities and "always through means within the constitutional order".

Along Shimura Akane becoming President of the State Governorate, Sanni Kosonen from the Progressive Liberal Party will be Vice-President as representative of the minority within the State Governorate. Regarding the possibility of constitutional amendments as some of pro-sovereignty political forces had proposed during the electoral campaign, the joint agreement states that "the State Governorate will propose the Legislative Assembly the creation of a commission in which all political forces represented in the Legislative Assembly can participate", without advancing any concrete proposal.

Composition of new State Governorate of Jugland
  • President of the State Governorate and Secretary of the Treasury: Shimura Akane (Betse coalition)
  • Vice President of the State Governorate and Secretary of Labour: Sanni Kosonen (Progressive Liberal Party)
  • Secretary of Home Affairs and Justice: Matsuyama Ryosuke (Betse coalition)
  • Secretary of Economic Affairs: Jouko Juuso (Freedom Party)
  • Secretary of Education and Science: Hasegawa Saki (Betse coalition)
  • Secretary of Transportation and Communication: Nestani Baramidze (Solidarity)
  • Secretary of Health and Social Policy: Adalwynda Schjelderup (Workers Democratic Party)
  • Secretary of Culture and Sports: Matias Houvila (National Democratic Party)
  • Secretary of Administrative Affairs: Elna Erkko (Independent / Juglander Citizens Movement)

"Naturally." Sadazane said with a nod before handing over a few folders which contained information on Fusan's present trade deals. "As it stands, the most significant to keep in mind is the ASDN—the Association of Shaw and Dauntel Nations—which does affect trade to some degree, mostly by requiring lower tariffs on imported goods between member-states as compared to countries not party to the Dunwich Declaration. I can't imagine that impacting Dunhart so greatly as to preclude a deal." He added before saying "Beyond that, there really isn't much of note beyond the standard dealings one might expect from a country like Fusan, none of which would impact Dunhart in any way."

Emperor Delivers Address to Joint Session of the Imperial Diet

Yoriyuki Ando
01/13/2025

His Majesty, Emperor Eijiro, addressed the Imperial Diet this evening ahead of its opening for the year. The occasion, which has occurred every year since 1890, has typically been carried out by the reigning Emperor, although it has, on occasion, instead been performed by the Crown Prince or by another member of the Imperial Household in times when the Emperor is in poor health, as was most notably seen in January of 2020. In the leadup to the address, many speculated as to the contents of the address, with some suggesting it might focus solely on domestic affairs, while others opined that it would focus heavily on the war in Kalasin, a matter which had dominated the news over the course of 2024. Instead, during his fifth annual address to the Diet, the Emperor hearkened back to his first, wherein he spoke of the need for Fusan to chart a new course in the world, notably calling for a strengthening of the country's commitment to upholding freedom around the world. The Emperor's full remarks can be found below:

"Distinguished Peers and Representatives, Ministers and Members of our Armed Services, fellow citizens of this great nation, I wish to begin by thanking you once again for this invitation to speak to you in this most honored chamber, one which has long served as a shrine to our nation’s democracy. When first I spoke to you, five years ago to the day, I did so on the behalf of my ailing father, knowing well that the words I read would be among the last he would ever dictate. I am reminded, on this solemn occasion, of the overwhelming support and compassion which you shared with me and my family in such a trying time, for which I am most truly grateful, and yet, my mind is drawn to what he wrote and I said to you on that night, that the time has come for Fusan to chart a new path in the world.

Tonight, we stand, though fortunate as we are, at a crossroads in our nation’s history. We have seen so much prosperity and social progress in these last five years, all the while, thanks to the efforts of our men and women in uniform, we have likewise ensured that there are so few external threats to our nation. But with this opportunity that has been bestowed upon us, we have likewise been given a great moral obligation to build a truly great society, one in which our people share freely in the abundance and freedoms of our nation. And to achieve that, we must all work together, irrespective of race or origin, creed or language, to build not merely a great society, but an equitable one. One which serves not merely our highest earners, but which strives to lift up the poorest and most vulnerable among us, to give them the same fighting chance as everyone else. It is a challenge, yes, but Fusan is a nation which has faced these challenges before and has emerged stronger for it. So let us pledge, then, that in the coming years and decades, we will ensure that every child will begin school ready to learn and graduate ready to succeed. That every family will be able to succeed at home and at work, and that no child will be raised in poverty. We will ensure that quality, affordable healthcare will be available to all Fusanese. We must make Fusan the safest country on Mundus. We must pay off our national debt and bring prosperity to every Fusanese community. We will not merely halt climate change, but reverse it, leaving for our progeny a safer, cleaner planet. Fusan must lead the world toward a shared peace and prosperity, and towards the far frontiers of science and technology. And in doing so, we will become at last what our ancestors had dreamed for us, a nation reborn, with liberty and justice burning bright within our hearts. These are goals which we will not achieve in one year, let alone ten, but we will reach them. And in reaching them, we will have laid the groundwork for a new Fusan, much as our ancestors did in 1868, one where all will be as brothers and sisters, eagerly working together for a brighter tomorrow.

But we cannot simply turn inwards, as we might’ve done in times passed. The world has fundamentally changed, and we are now more connected to the outside world than we ever were before. Two-hundred years ago, it would’ve been possible for us to have packed up our things and gone home, to focus on ourselves and let the world go on without us. But now, it is a self-evident truth that to stand alone—to let the world pass us by—is to display weakness. As Kalasin showed us following the overthrow of the Jitnukul regime, it is not good enough for us to simply support the freedom of speech, of worship, from want and from fear, all while doing nothing to back up our support. It was through inaction on our part that the great human tragedy seen in that land was able to play itself out on such a terrible scale, and so, I say that we cannot be for any of those things if we are not also in support of man’s inherent need for freedom from tyranny everywhere, whether under the guise of political oppression, economic slavery, or religious fanaticism. That fundamental idea cannot simply be met with our support, but must also be met with our strength, be it politically, economically, or materially, and if none of that shall work, then it must be our moral obligation to bring liberation to those who are now and who may in the future be oppressed. That must be the great mission of the new Fusan, the sword and shield of freedom in all corners of the world, ready to answer the call of the persecuted and enslaved, wherever they may be.

We are now only two years on from the tragedy that was the war between Fusan and our eastern neighbor, a conflict which was manufactured by Charles Offdensen and propagated through fear and anger over the loss of several of our service members. Yet from that tragedy, a lasting peace was forged between Fusan and Rokkenjima which has since been able to serve as a foundation for a relationship—an alliance—that has benefitted us immensely. And God willing, it will stand the test of time for decades to come. And so, we must commit ourselves also to strengthening our ties with our friends and allies, all the while also building new relationships with new partners the world over, seeking to create a world which will not only benefit Fusan, but all peoples. We have the means, we know the way forwards, and we are now uniquely positioned to build a better world for generations to come. May God bless you, and may God bless Fusan."

It was a misleading name "Chief Magistrates Palace". It was an old military college that had once belonged to a minor Cult of Bellator. It had been forfeited in the middle of the 1800's and turned into a complex where the Magistrate could both live and run his staff from. What it did have however was a vast lawn and it was here that Narcis Zappa awiated the arrival of the various delegates for his proposed conference. The guests would be meet by the Primarch of the Covenant, Octavia Pax, at the International Airport. She would do all the formalities and greetings as you would expect from a Head of State in a nation where religion was both complex and confusing. From there a helicopter would whizz each of them over the city, ensuring views of both the old red roofed town and the new ultra modern glass and steel sides of the capital. Then it would be a touch down where a young military officer would greet them, ensure they were free from the complexities of a harness and then Narcis would greet them. "Good Morning" he said enthusiastically hoping to make a good first impression. "We're excited that you agreed to come. I've some warm coffee inside please follow Lieutenant Hafalsa until I have a chance to welcome everyone else, I'm sure it won't be long."

The blonde haired Jana Hafalsa saluted their first guest and escorted them towards the conference room. "While the Chief Magistrate had coffee in mind I can arrange anything else you'd prefer, juice, tea, water.....please let me know. If I can be of any assistance I'd be delighted to help." She said as she led them into the conference room where there were a series of long rectangular tables formed into a square where tiny flags marked where each nation would be expected to sit.

There were advantages to being a nation that many would say was in decline, people kind of left you alone. Over the past 100 years or so around 30million of your own people had elected to seek a life beyond your own borders. That though had simply meant the vast resources the Gods had blessed them with went further and so while the nation struggled in some respects it was a nation where, if you looked beyond the fairly frequent religious carnage, life could be good. Life in Xerente was dominated by the faith. In a way everyone should have been worshipping Salvatrix for she would one day return and save every soul, others though believed that while the Goddess was powerful other actions must be taken for if she would save us all we need to make sure we survive in the best manner we can until then, that was where the problems started. Those in the Cults of Bellator believed being the best fighters and warriors would increase your chance of seeing this moment, meanwhile those who followed Mendax believed in the use of cunning and guile to position yourself in as strong a position as possible for when she returned. Throw into the mix that not only did the five sub-cults have a love/hate relationship with each other they also had their own sub-cults. Chief Magistrate Narcis Zappa now regretted this as he would need to try and navigate explaining this to an outsider. However he was not alone, thankfully the Primarch of the Covenant would be alongside him. Octavia Pax had the unenviable job of keeping the various Cults inline, a task some said was like trying to herd kittens. Attired in a simple black suiness suit she didn't radiate the image of a faith leader but that was just one of the Primarch's job. She also had a government role, acting as a check and balance to the Chief Magistrate Narcis Zappa who would be dealing with todays business. In truth he was rather nervous. It wasn't the cosy trade talk, or embassy expansion he had imagined but more like an inspection. He knew the Morelanders were rather well connected so perhaps this was a chance to make a good impression.

When the Morelander finally arrived at Xarqueada International Airport he found a group of black uniformed men holding historic looking rifles presenting a guard of honour from the bottom of his aircrafts steps to the two hosts. While foreign affairs were firmly Narcis' field of play he was also aware that protocol was potentially important and so he was happy to allow Octavia to take a lead and she confidently stepped towards King David. "Welcome to Xerente Your Majesty. We're delighted to welcome you. The background to your visit may not be the most joyous but we hope we can ensure you leave happy. I hope your young countryman is OK?" She enquired. "This is Chief Magistrate Narcis Zappa, he'll be doing most of the talking for our nation just with some of the talks likely requiring a religious input he thought it best that I should be here too."

"Your Majesty" Narcis bowed his head. "I agree this may be an unfortunate reason for our meeting but I hope we can make something good come from it." He escorted the King towards a waiting helicopter. "I would normally encourage you to enjoy the sights of Xarqueada, its a beautiful city, however its also a chaotic city in terms of traffic and so we believed it better to take a more direct route." The group boarded the helicopter and Narcis handed everyone a headset. Soon the helicopter’s rotors thundered through the early morning air, casting a shadow that skimmed the green fields crisp with frost. The city stretched like an intricate mosaic, where ancient history and modern life intertwined seamlessly. To the left, the mist covered hills flanked the city. The helicopter veered in towards the city itself, gliding over the terracotta-tiled rooftops of the Old Town which today was little more than a tourist attraction. The unmistakable form of Temples marking the skyline still dominating the heart of the city. Tourists and locals alike appeared as tiny, bustling figures, moving through its historic courtyards and beneath arches that had withstood centuries of storms and war. Beyond the Old Town, the city expanded into modern districts, where glass-fronted buildings and bustling streets signaled the pulse of modern life. The hum of life was almost audible even above the roar of the rotors—a blend of car horns, laughter from open-air cafés, and the faint strains of street musicians performing by the various Temple steps.

As the helicopter climbed higher, the view extended to the rugged peaks of the hills that formed the border with Abertone, their gray limestone faces streaked with patches of green. To the south, the green forests of Marjan jutted out from the mist their evergreen trees maintaining an otherwise missing spark of colour in the white dusted landscape. Joggers and cyclists braving the cold morning were visible from above, tiny dots weaving through a natural escape that seemed worlds away from the city’s vibrant core. Ahead, the Primarch's Palace building loomed—a modern architectural anomaly on the outskirts of the city. Its sleek, angular design and metallic sheen contrasted starkly with the red roofs and ancient stone of the Old City. Security vehicles surrounded the building like chess pieces on a board, their positions strategic and unwavering. Banners of the six Gods fluttered from the buildings roof. As the helicopter descended, the faint scent of damp soil gave way to the sterile, metallic tang of the landing pad. As the rotors stopped a young man hurried, head bowed, towards the door and opened it just as the blades locked into place. "Your Majesty" he helped unstrap King David before holding the door for him. Now free of their transport the Primarch and Magistrate took the King inside the building which despite its name was just 20 years old. "The old one was destroyed by earthquake then fire. It's on the opposite side of the city and being turned into something of a tourist trap." Octavia added as they made their way to her large lounge used for when she normally meet with the various Cult leaders. "So King David where would you like to begin?"

KING TO SEEK ASSURANCES

The Palace have today confirmed that on his way back from Lodja the King will visit Xerente, marking the first time the monarch of East Moreland has visited the nation in recent history. The King is due to return from Lodja on Tuesday following a trip to re-formalise relations with perhaps the Kingdoms closest ally while also visiting Queen Stasya's family there. The King has always put an emphasis on Prince Llewellyn experiencing both sides of his heritage and frequent visits to Lodja have been part of the three year olds upbringing so far. The King however is apparently keen to seek assurances from the government of Xerente over the safety of foreign nationals. A recent religious incident saw foreign nationals targetted by criminal elements of one of the nations religious factions. During these incidents one East Moreland citizen, 22 year old student Edward Hebden, was hospitalised after being attacked and robbed. The King said, "I am someone who has always been keen to allow people to express their religion or in fact their lack of faith, but I'm surprised that this incident took place apparently in the name of religion. I am keen to achieve two things in Xerente. First I am keen to make sure that all Morelanders who happen to be in Xerente are safe and will be kept safe. I know I do not speak for the international community but I will be advocating for all foreign nationals when I speak with Xerente representatives. Second I seek to understand how or why a faith can advocate targetting foreigners. I am aware that the Primarch of Salvatrix and the Chief Magistrate both spoke out against the violence and they can not be held accountable for the actions of a gang of thugs but I want to try and comprehend how the incident happened in the first instance."

Edward Hebden was left with concussion and required five stitches to a head wound he received when knocked unconscious while unlocking his front door. The 22 year old was there as part of a photography assignment from travel blog website Lucky Trip. He was discovered by neighbours who alerted the police. He has since returned home to East Moreland and said "I was surprised. I'd enjoyed the first month of what was supposed to be six there and then this happened. When I woke up my phone, wallet and even my trainers had been taken. They'd let themselves into my flat and stolen my camera, laptop and taken a few bits and a watch. I never even heard them coming."

The King has also said that he intends to make a final pitstop on his way home by visiting Semelberg where he technically holds the title of High Prince. Royal Press Secretary Malcolm Tucker said. "The King may have been surprised by the title following the Pelagiya families arrangement with the Charterlands but now he must see the best done by Prince Maximilion who is governing in the name of the Pelagiya-Ironside family. One day Prince Llewellyn will inherit his fathers title and any responsible father will want to ensure the inheritance is in good order." The King is expected to inspect troops from the local militia who have undergone specialist training from Red Legion after the small 1,800 strong Semelberg Militia had been reorganised into a Light Scout role with a small Commando element.
