As previously announced by Krimeonite news, His Majesty Tsar Viktor Gough-Petrov alongside His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of the Krimeonite Orthodox Church with their large delegation, were on their way to the Kingdom of Attica; the official reasoning behind was merely out of cultural and religious Exchange, which meant that a booked appearance with the Tamoran Emperor and Ayatollah was in due order as well. However, even if the Tsar deeply cared about these things there was nothing else more important than to show solidarity for a fellow Pious and Holy Christian Monarch such as Queen Arpine, the last of her dynasty and how much of a tragic one it was with the downfall that came with the annexation. This is the reason why the Tsar compelled to bring along one of his sons, the young Prince Andrew; perhaps he would be the ultimate key to save the Attican Royal dynasty from ceasing to exist in all eternity? After all the Queen was in her early 30s, being more than ripe enough to pump out new offspring, heirs in fact. Andrew wasn't in the upper echelons of the Krimeonite line of succession anyway.

I would like to first off, even if it's a tad late, congratulate your victory in this war on terrorism which has brought nothing but chaos and destruction everywhere it had left its mark, your well-needed persona is important for our side of the continent's stability and security it truly needs. Secondly, it's thus in the Swastrian government's opinion that now it's the appropriate time to widen our relations with the Lakzhovian State; it would be too many topics to go over in one message but it's common knowledge that you and I both know that it would entail everything from the diplomatics, economics, defence, immigration and so forth.

There's however something that should spark the Lakazhovian interest in particular: You see, the Swastrian train services and operations are quite frankly almost unparralleld in this world, as efficiency, punctuality and customer service are three of its most important corner stones and thus taking the train as much as possible is held dearly within the Swastrian spirit. However, trying to undertake a train journey to your country has proven to be quite the challenge, which is due to the different track systems and other bureaucracy on our parts and I do think it's correct to assume that the terrorism has decreased the amount of vital tourism, which surely needs to be brought up on full levels as previously. There's potentialy something we can do about that though...

Chancellor Elize Berenberg was having a hard time trying to sleep, more specifically as in regaining well-needed sleep; twisting and twirling in bed, and trying methods such as counting sheep didn't clearly have a notable effect on her. Her life had up to one year ago gone exactly as she planned and wanted it to be, ever since she received the ability to think as an independent, willfull woman with a strong character; no one could've perhaps expected that a woman of her poor background could end up becoming the undisputed leader of the People's Party and the coalition they were running alongside their more outspoken, eccentric Progress allies. On top of that, become the second female in Swastria's political arena to become the next Chancellor of Aranye's 'Pearl'. However, a life such as hers could've gone unnoticed without a pitiful disaster, of course not otherwise there wouldn't have been any excitement, right?

As Elize was lying there in main bedroom of the Swastrian Federal Chancellery building, situated at central square in Wittburg known as 'Ballhausplatz', a synecdoche for the seat of power, she turned her gaze from the ceiling directly to the left side of bed. Her husband Richard was supposed to be lying there, acting as her dearest friend, loyal husband and passionate soul mate til' the end, but alas the end unfortunately came much sooner than expected and in a crude, cold form. The thing about cancer is that the success rate of one surviving, is if one's able to get medical treatment as early as possible as soon as it had been discovered. That proved to be the opposite for Mr. Berenberg who ended up spending his final days in palliative care, with his beloved family right by his, especially the two children in their twenties who he had raised up diligently as much as possible alongside the wife, who held his hand and uttering sentences that everything was going to be alright for them and all other assurances, with him stuttering the final words: "I love you too..."

Naturally Chancellor Berenberg tried to move on and focus on her duty towards her family and the country, but it was hard still even if it had gone some time since the state funeral which was held in his honorable memory he had done for his nation as a Banker; it was thanks to him that her status was brought up considerably into the upper spheres, his family was part of a long lineage of bankers and merchants operating at least since the times and in league with the Goughs, who happened to be the royal family of both Huisslandia and Swastria. Of all the women in her significant position, why was her family chosen by the Grim Reaper to suffer a heartbreaking loss she asked herself from time to time. She couldn't be bothered to book sessions with a shrink, it wasn't needed anyway in her opinion as her mental state didn't affect her working performance although there was a time when many including her own party expected her to resign considering the long effects it could've had on her after experiencing a devastating loss. In the end she persevered and continued to the best of her abilities carry her duties forward; perhaps all that she needs is a new man in her life to keep her company, comfort her and all that jazz.

In any case, as she looked at her watch reading 3 AM, a phone situated on a bedside desk on her opposite side rang. For many it would have been somewhat inappropriate to receive a phone call that early in the morning, but due to the fact that Elize was clearly awake and thus didn't matter much, as well as being the Chancellor like any other high level position required to take heed of important inquiries and emergencies, it was perfectly normal. She straightened her back on a giant pillow and picked up the phone: "Good morning to you too...It's alright, was quite awake already...Oh I see...Well I'm sure our Huisslander hosts wouldn't mind a bit of extra delay, after all we're keeping some of their questionable assets safely hehe, let's not use the plane unless it's urgent...Great, alright I'll catch you later, bye." "Right, it's about time to head out there in the winter wonder land." she said, as the Chancellor went into the bedroom again and basically dressed up in her attire suitable for taking a jog, which she undertook every time sleep didn't come to her immediately and helped her relax and collect her mind together. The government-issued bodyguards were pretty much expecting this to be the case as they already prepared themselves by the Chancellery's entrance. With a few words of 'Let's Roll', Elise and her protective entourage began their leisurely early morning jog in the nearby quarters of wintery capital of Wittburg, planning to return after an hour or so for a filling Swastrian breakfast including Bircher Müesli, Butterbrot and coffee. With those first ordinary tasks of the day set in mind, the Chancellor was looking forward to the Huisslandian visit and what it would entail to begin with.

The year 900 AD could be simply a random year for anyone one could ask, however not when it comes to the Federation of Atonesinla and the Celestian Catholic Church, as that's when the first Christian missionaries reached the country under the blessed leadership of Pope Benedict IV and thus setting alight a rapid transformation that would bring the tribes of Atonesinla into the Light and Eternal Salvation of our Lord Jesus Christ. From then on a blessed and glorious relationship between the Federation and the Ecclesiastical State has been continuing for over a milennia, facing the hardest of hardships against all odds and prevailing in the end; that is the testimony of being a true and loyal Christian.

This is why on behalf of His Holiness, Pope Peter II, I will visit the Federation alongside close associates and members of Prime Minister Francois Soubois' cabinet in the hopes of once more establishing proper relations through discussions that will take place with your representatives and potentially yourself, His Excellency Caradoc. The Empire of Quintelia has consistently been dubbed as the Ecclesiastical State's most trusted ally and friend alongside the epitome of acting as the vanguard of the Catholic Church in the continent of Ardia. For years as this has been the case, the Holy Father and the Church in return has gifted the Empire with so many gifts in plentitude and sincerity that it has been hard to keep track of them all, metaphorically speaking. It has come to the Pope's attention that certain traditions ought to be revived and maintained for the sake of honoring the glorious history of our Church and the vast legacy it has left and will continue to leave behind.

Among these traditions and customs is the servitude of the finest Foot Guards one can ever find in Mundus, namely the Pontifical Swiss Guards, stemming from the glorious days of Helvetican mercenaries, they've been traditional Guards serving the courts of our Catholic allies for centuries since the early 16th century including the Ecclesiastical State. Unfortunately due to the ill fortunes of history many of these regiments have been disbanded for a variety of reasons, although as of now the Holy Father's trying to change that around. That is why His Majesty has been blessed to be asked by myself the Commander of the Pontifical Helvetic Guards, Colonel Christoph Graf, if it were possible to send a complimentary force of 135 Helvetic Guards to serve once more a most noble and honorable Catholic Ruler such as yourself for ceremonial purposes; they would certainly attract the well-needed amount of tourists the Empire needs, traditionally equipped with their colorful uniforms and armed with deadly halberdiers.

Jokes aside, I hope His Majesty would accept this gracious gift coming from the Holy Father himself for the sake of maintaining traditions and customs, as a sincere gratitude for remaining loyal to the One True Faith and acting as the most supreme ally and friend the Church state could ever ask for.

ES had been governed by a system of absolute monarchy since the 8th century. However, political winds of change emerged as the Ecclesiastical liberal and national movements gained momentum in the 1830s. Pope Gregory XVI, a moderate reformer but still an absolutist, died in June 1846 during a period of rising opposition from farmers and liberals. The demands for constitutional monarchy, led by the National Liberals, ended with a popular march to the Vatican on March 21, 1848.

The growing bourgeoisie had demanded a share in government and abolish absolutism whilst retaining a strongly centralized state and in an attempt to avert the sort of bloody revolution occurring elsewhere in Mundus the new Pope, Blessed Pius IX, gave in to the demands of the citizens. A new constitution emerged and was subsequently adopted on September 12th, 1848, separating the powers and granting the franchise to all adult males, as well as freedom of the press, religion, and association. The Pope became head of the executive branch, represented by a Governor-General of the Church, delegating executive powers to the Federal Council whilst retaining reserve powers. The legislative branch consists of two parliamentary chambers; the National Council, comprising members elected by the general population, and the Council of States, consisting entirely of appointed and non-partisan Catholic clergy by the cantonal governments. ES also gained an independent judiciary.

It is said that the Catholic Pope's first words after signing away his absolute power were, "that was nice, now I can sleep in the mornings". Although army officers and high standing clergy were dissatisfied, they accepted the new arrangement which, in comparison to other countries at the time, was not overturned by reactionaries.

Development history: During the final stages of the Great War in 1946, Achkaerin became the first nation to use a nuclear weapon in Mundus and the ethical and legal justification for the bombings is still debated to this day. As the first bomb of its kind detonated on the Valertinette city of Whitehaven, it sent a shock wave throughout the world reaching even the Ecclesiastical State where the message of its immense power was held in awe as well as serious concern for the changed circumstances in warfare and the political situation.

Even though the USR was considered to be an necessary (evil) ally in the struggle against the Ardian supremacy, nations like the Ecclesiastical State had repeatedly warned against accomodating the Communist One-Party State's increasing expansionism and when the seal of knowledge was broken as they managed to develope their own nuclear capability, the Church State realised at that point that she could no longer trust the other nations of the 'Free World' to come to her aid against the USR if the inevitable would occur.

This meant that the Ecclesiastical State had no choice but to opt for a sizable nuclear program as a deterrent against the aggressive and Atheistic USSR and its numerous satellite states while at the same believing that it would safeguard the global political balance and stability. It was of course not an easy decision that everyone could take lightly, with discussions taking place in both parliament and Church about its ethical and moral dilemmas, delaying the advancement of an official nuclear program (though secret research had begun right after the war). It wasn't until the mid 1950s that the 'grand coalition' government, consisting of both National Democrats and Social Democrats managed to push through a consensus, winning the debate even in the second chamber consisting of clergy, and arguing that the nuclear program was a small cost to pay (basically an insurance against the worst case scenario).

Venerable Pope Pius XII was in the beginning a staunch opponent against a weaponized use of nuclear power and considered issuing a papal veto from legislation to pass the establishment of a nuclear program, however due to being sick and feeling much more vigour in his younger days he couldn't perform his duties quite well as before and thus took the ultimate decision not to issue a Papal veto which resulted in 1956 a Committee for the Military Applications of Atomic Energy was formed and a development program for delivery vehicles and weapons was started. The Pope's conditions included that the ES would never abuse them carelessly nor use them aggressively as a threat to other nations and to primarily protect other small Christian (especially Catholic) nations against aggression (especially when two years later the once independent Catholic Kingdom of Attica was annexed and incorporated into the Tamoran Empire, accelerating the development of the weapons).
