GEOGRAPHY OF THE EYRIE
The Eyrie of Gusano is located on the continent of Aranye. It is on the Eastern coast of the Illumic and sandwiched between several nations (Seaforth, Lakhzovia and Altona)
The nation is made up of a series of wide valleys with fertile land that eventually raise into rather high mountains in the North East close to the borders with Seaforth and Lakhzovia. These mountains are known as The Solitude and have significance in the nations folklore and government. The nation has a population of around 12.5million which for its size is rather small, a fact sociologists have put down to the nations focus on supplying the religious and cultural area of the Solitude. The nation has only a handful of towns.
Estani - This settlement was seen as highly insignificant until February 2023. The village is a tiny fishing village that sits on a river rich in eels. The village has become rather wealthy for its fishing success and now that it is the birth place of the current Veiled One, Lady Aurora, the village has seen an increase in visitors.
Valle sits on one of the nations three major rivers. It is a town in which each summer large bullfighting events take place.
Puerto Casa is the nations major port. It is from here that the nations huge excess in agricultural produce is transported.
Pueblo Paz is located in an area that in the 1980's began to be exploited for shale gas, as such it is a relatively new settlement that sprung up to help support the work force.
Castavade is seen as an important town as it hosts a significant amount of the nations non-spiritual universities.
Fuerte Aguilar is the largest settlement in the nation and could be considered its only city. It currently has a population of around 500,000.
The Vale is a proposed new city that will bridge the Funnel and The Solitude, it began construction in April 2023.
Cavedor is the nations capital but is rather small. Nestled in the mountains it is home to less than 20,000 people and is where the governance of the nation takes place. It is believed that the Solitude exists because the Eagle God, Aetharus lifted the land out of the spirit world and transported it to Mundus.
The Solitude itself is only accessible to people who are members of the Order of the Talon. This is a special order people are assigned to almost immediately after birth. To ensure this the accessible paths into the Solitude are guarded by forts. These are typically manned by a small group of soldiers who check the credentials of all wishing to pass. These forts are often built into the mountain sides and include their own little communities and farms. While the posts are given to the military a tradition exists where if a sibling or child of a serving guard joins the Order of the Talon they will be posted to the same fort if they join the military. In some families they can trace their service back close to 200 years.
