Festival of Sail Sign Ups
« on: July 01, 2022, 10:13:36 PM »

The Festival of Sail is East Moreland's celebration of all things nautical. Every year vessels from around the world are invited to visit the various docks of Portworth and the small villages of the surrounding area. This year we will be welcoming back to Portworth members of the armed forces who have served in recent conflict in Lodja. The festival shall feature on Day One (6th July) a parade of boats into Portworth Naval Docks where the King's Sword shall be brought ashore. There shall then be several days of showcases of vessels in the Portworth region as well as various shore based entertainment such as the annual Dockyard Fun-Fair. On the fifth day there shall be for various VIP diginitaries a gala dinner onboard the Illumic Pride.

We look forward to welcoming you to Portworth. Should you have any specific requirement please inform us ahead of arrival.

May The Gods Watch Over You and the Winds Be Kind

King David III of Est Moreland

OOC - Mainly for the parade of ships I like to tryy and include ships from around the world in my first post. While we've never turned anyone away its also not cool to send loads of military stuff just because seeing 59 Destroyers isn't fun. You can also set up things like tours on ships, sales pitches for naval equipment etc. In the past we've havd for example the Alanders send a replica longboat as a living museum.

Just give me some details of who your sending VIP wise too.

The Empire of Daitō shall attend the Festival of Sail this year, with its exhibition focusing on traditional shipbuilding of the old Empire of Yamato, from which the modern Daitōjin state originates, as well as from the 15th century. As such one can be expected to see the SS Akatatsu, a replica of an old Imperial mission ship dating to the 8th century, as well as the SS Kamakiri-maru, a replica of a Gozabune warship from the 15th century, and the SS Fusō-maru, a cruise liner built for Okinoshima Cruises, is expected to make a stop for a few days in Northfort before continuing along its way to Saburi, Vaguzia. Accompanying them is the IDN Hikōkyōi, which will serve as the residence for our guests of honour, the Emperor and Empress of Daitō, for the duration of the festival. During such time, should it be the wish of the government of the Kingdom of East Moreland, they will be available to speak about matter whatever matters the government wishes. The IDN Suirō, a prototype ekranoplan and namesake of the Suirō-class maritime patrol vessel, will also attend.

The Kamakiri-maru will host guests on the night of the second day of the festival for dinner, during which time they will be entertained by members of the Imperial Gagaku Ensemble and dancers belonging to the Tokudome troupe. Day 3 will see the performance of "Yoshitsune Senbon Zakura" in the Kabuki tradition aboard the Fusō-maru. We look forwards to the coming event and are eager to see what everyone else brings. Tours of the Fusō-maru will also be offered.

KROKOM SUB-ORBITAL (KSO)

Krokom Sub-Orbital would like to showcase our Vannlilje floating platform. Established in 2003 Krokom Sub-Oribital set an ambitious goal of being the first amateur team to put a man in space. To date we have flown 6 rockets and capsules but as we begin testing of manned capsules we require funds. We have shunned corporate sponsorship in favour of crowd funding to avoid being accused of being corporate puppets. We would like to bring an exhibition of KSO's work and utilise the festival as a fund raising oppurtunity. Our ultimate goal is is simple but audacious: to fly an amateur astronaut to space and return them safely to Mundus without any governmental or corporate backing. We seek to prove that any motivated group of people can reach space. Space starts at the Karman line 100 kilometres over sea level. We will launch our Loki launch vehicle from international waters to above the Karman line. After reaching apogee our capsule will re-enter the atmosphere and land by parachute in the Alucard.

During the Festival we would like launch a version of one of our earlier rockets, the Sapphire, which will be carrying a package to test navigation computers. It will be aimed at a point in space designed to take it into the Mhorish where we shall recover it. If successful the rocket will reach 30km.

OFFICIAL COMMUNICATION FROM THE GOVERNMENT OF THE FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF NEW DERUSMIA

To: King David III

In previous years, New Derusmia sent its most modern research vessels and ships that could traverse through the harshest environments for the purposes of peaceful scientific advancement. This year, the Navy has requested to send its newly upgraded (upgraded in the sense of upgraded seafaring capability) Ceremonial Flagship for display at the Festival of Sail. In the spirit of friendship, goodwill, and in sincere remembrance of the days of brutal conflict behind, we would like to send the proudest and largest member of the New Derusmian fleet to represent our nation: KDMS Teutonia. The largest warship ever designed and built by any Derusmian Navy, today she sails as a link to the past, to a time of conflict and war for which she was constructed. As a partial floating museum, the majority of the ship will be on display to the public once docked in Portworth and complementary guided tours will be offered to guests of honour at the Festival.

Arriving alongside KDMS Teutonia will be the luxury ocean liner SS Wikinger III, the largest preserved historical ocean liner in New Derusmia. It will be carrying myself and other guests to the Festival and will also serve as a dining and events venue for the New Derusmian delegation.

Visitors to this years Festival of Sail will have an opportunity to view an assortment of Achkaerinese vessels, this year our contributions include familiar favourites as well as debutants, all with a focus on providing festival goers with a memorable experience. First from the Achkaerinese Navy we shall be sending the INS Phoenix, having recently seen action in the Lodjan crisis, it's main function for the Festival however shall be as the support base for the Navy's Blue Mermaid Display Team, who shall carry out several displays over the course of the Festival, the team will also run a test drive course for Tempests allowing festival goers to take one out for a spin. The second attendee is the Pedal Whale, the human powered boat that Sammy Lawson, Melanie Parker, Molly Cooper and Bridget Portman pedalled from Hygelac to Hrothgaer, the four of them will be there to talk about their journey and other things, show people the ship etc. Finally we will be sending Legacy Park, this will we believe be the largest Achkaerinese vessel to have ever attended the festival, for want of a better way of describing it this is a floating sports stadium with top of the line facilities, a solid capacity and the ability to host a wide variety of sporting events. For the duration of the festival visitors to Legacy Park shall be able to watch a variety of sporting contests (including a big night of Medieval Mixed Martial Arts action), classes for members of the public shall be available from some of Achkaerin's greatest sportspeople and the ship shall be home to Achkaerin's delegates throughout the festival thanks to the hotel accommodation incorporated into the design, all are invited to join in on the fun.

Dear King David

It would be a great oppurtunity for our nation to visit Portworth during the Festival. We would like to show off a replica of the Vento di Lupo. This vessel was the first ship to take settlers from our Empire across the Kyne to establish the Eastern Empire. I would also like if possible to meet with Your Majesty if time allows.

Best Wishes

Emperor Marco IX

I would like to thank for Your Majesty for the invitation to the festival and confirm my presence at the festival.

Representing the Holy Kingdom of Samantra will be Saint Vladimir floating church. The ship was built in 1960 by the Samantran Orthodox Church to meet the spiritual needs of the Samantran people. Following the Great War and subsequent civil war, many of our churches were destroyed or severely damaged though the faith of the Samantran people only grew. Thanks to the Saint Vladimir floating church, our Church was able to bring to isolated communities the relics of various saints, and especially those of our Saint Parascheva to the faithful for them to touch and pray.

Today, the Holy Kingdom of Samantra has rebuilt its churches and erected new ones but Saint Vladimir floating church is not obsolete. It serves an important purpose for us, it reminds us of our past and encourages us to be grateful to God for the Holy Kingdom. We hope visitors of the festival will find the ship intriguing and inquire about it allowing us to discuss about Holy Kingdom’s history and the Samantran Orthodox Church which is the heart of the Samantran people and government.

Respectfully yours,
Maria Mikhailov
Minister of External Affairs

OOC note: Sign-ups seem to be being formatted differently this year, but I'm doing this in a bit of a rush, so I'll just put Tytor's entries into a spoiler here.  Admiral Lord Robert Waverly-Edwards, the overall commander of the TRN, will be in attendance this year as Tytor's senior representative.  Also present will be his wife and the Tytorian ambassador to East Moreland.

Spoiler: show
Nation: Kingdom of Tytor
Vessel: HTMS St. Joseph
Image:
Background: Originally launched in 1795 and in perpetual commission since 1917, HTMS St. Joseph remains the oldest warship in the Tytorian Royal Navy.  A masterpiece of naval engineering from the height of the Age of Sail, the St. Joseph holds a special place in the hearts of the Tytorian public, and pretty much always has.  It was nicknamed "Old Ironsides" in 1810 following a battle in which the enemy ship's cannonballs seemed to simply bounce off its sides, and it has recaptured the public imagination on many occasions since.  Due to meticulous preservation methods, the St. Joseph is fully capable of travelling under its own power, and will accordingly sail itself to Portworth in time for this year's Festival of Sail.
Proposed Role: As with the 2015 Festival: during the first two days of the festival, HTMS St. Joseph will be open to guided tours conducted by crew members. The next two days will include reenactments of the frigate's sea trials in 1795; festival-goers will be able to sign up for spots onboard. The final day, St. Joseph will be dockside once more and open for tours. (OOC: If any of the days scheduled happens to be a Sunday, the crew will be holding a short church service on deck that morning. The service will be open to all comers.)

Nation: Kingdom of Tytor
Vessel: Tall Ship St. Linus
Image:
Background: Originally in commission in the Tytorian Royal Navy from 1818 to 1896, HTMS St. Linus served with some distinction, becoming the first Tytorian ship to circumnavigate the globe in 1829.  Upon decommissioning, the St. Linus was purchased by an entrepreneur and moved to Port Monsoon for use as an upscale dining establishment, a role it served until 1984.  In 1988, the St. Linus was purchased by the HTMS St. Linus Foundation.  The ship was then faithfully restored to its condition at the time of its famous 1829 circumnavigation, with the result placed on public display in 1992.
Proposed Role: The HTMS St. Linus Foundation will present the Tall Ship St. Linus (the prefix HTMS is legally restricted to ships in formal naval commission) as a museum depicting Tytor's long and proud naval tradition.

Nation: Kingdom of Tytor
Vessel: HTMS St. Alban
Image:
Background: Lead ship of the St. Alban class of frigates built for the Tytorian Royal Navy in the mid-1980s, HTMS St. Alban is a much more modern representative of Tytorian frigate-building.  The fifth warship to bear its name, the St. Alban is considered state-of-the-art for the TRN when it comes to frigates.
Proposed Role: Due to potential national security concerns, the modern frigate HTMS St. Alban will remain inaccessible to festival-goers apart from photo opportunities.  It will be in attendance only because of the potential risks of sending a pair of 200-plus-year-old wooden sail frigates halfway around the world.  (OOC: HTMS St. Alban has no need to participate in the Parade of Ships, since it's present solely to make sure that HTMS St. Joseph and the Tall Ship St. Linus don't have an accident en route either to or from the Festival.)

Nation: Kingdom of Tytor
King's Banquet Attendees: Admiral Lord Robert Waverly-Edwards, Ranking Officer of the Tytorian Royal Navy, and his wife, the Princess Annabel; Peter Weatherby, Tytorian Ambassador to East Moreland, and his wife, Frances

With any luck, next year I'll be more on top of this and there will be a greater variety.
His Majesty Michael the First, by the Grace of God, King of Tytor and her Colonies, and Lord Protector of Floodwater

To His Majesty King David III of East Moreland

I would be delighted if for the first time you would permit both a vessel and a delegation from the Republic of Holmvik to attend your Festival. If permitted we would like the late 19th Century naval ship Prisan to be part of the weekend along with Flettner Rotar powered cruise ship Grace. In addition to the vessels I would appreciate if possible some time for ourselves to meet face to face to begin the foundation of more formal friendships.

With Thanks

President Sigmund Haugen
