The Dark Web Conference

Albanus Ares, CEO of Ares Recycling Enterprises.

Over the last 40 years Albanus had built up not one but two empires, one was his legitimate recycling company the one that had in the 1960's been cutting edge. He'd trawl the streets of Mountjoy collecting glass, plastic, alumnium cans and then weigh them in for scrap. It soon brought him a small van for bigger collections and now his company was responsible for around 15% of all Mountjoys recycling, and more importantly had branched out into being specialist recyclers of ships and planes something that helped him with his second Empire. This one was darker and much much more illegal. This one had seen him sell weapons to everyone and anyone who was interested, he'd sold weapons to the Maori during there war for freedom, to Binyamin Elwes as he seized power in Zimalia and King Kyle Barren was a frequent customer for his Borlanders. At the end of the day he didn't really care who used his services so long as they were discreet and had money. This meeting would be a little get together of his various customers but obviously not the big hitters, while he expected a Borlander to turn up he knew it wouldn't be Barren as that would draw to much attention. It was his experience that many of these kind of customers had some kind of front man engaged in legal activity allowing them to move around with ease.

Albanus even had established this meeting at his home, a lovely villa overlooking the sea. Despite it's closeness to the beach he spent much of his time hanging around the pool because that was where his young beautiful wife, Emmanuelle liked to spend her days. The 22 year old had married the 70 year old Albanus last summer after dating for a year, he was under no impression she wouldn't have looked twice at him had he not been a multi-millionaire but he liked having her around and he had enough money to keep her entertained. He sat enjoying a glass of orange juice watching her swim lengths of his mosaic tiled pool as he waited for his guests to arrive to discuss the year aheads deals and routes.

Ciaran McLeod, "Entraperneur", Artist, Art Collector

Ciaran prefered it when people came to him because it meant he had no need to leave his private Zimalian island. It may be small but his luxury sprawling house and complex were all he needed, the weather was warm, the surroundings beautiful and thanks to the corrupt Zimalian authorities and the supply of human traffic the island was home to all his fantasies. Be that the piles of illegal drugs he stored ready to be shipped around the globe at a moments notice, or usually for the use of guests to his own private Kingdom, or it could be the scantily clad "nymphs". The nymphs where women he brought from slave auctions, or in some cases women who willing to trade their independence for a pile of cocaine, bundles of cash and a life of luxury. They were kept in pairs and to amuse Cairan's Celtic mytholgical obsession kept semi naked while wearing fake wings. It was these ladies, his own personal hareem, that he didn't like leaving but business was business.

He had meet Albanus on a few occasions and they had done a good deal of business, their relevent contacts helping move a significant amount of "Merchandise" across Mundus. Albanus was, at least in Cairan's mind, similar to him. They both seemingly liked fine homes, young beautiful women and lush surroundings. Their beginnings however were very different as Albanus may have been an urchin done good while Cairan had grown up in money. His father had been a Duke and while his older brother had inherited the family fortune Cairan had managed to syphon off a great deal of it and seemingly disappear. He'd drop his brother the odd postcard from exotic places around Mundus but the two had never really got on ever since Cairan had been caught spying from the garden tree on his 17 year old brother fumbling with Jessica Reilly's bra. It had been embarassing, especially as Cairan had been spotted by the gardener sitting in a fork in the tree, trousers round his ankles. Cairan hadn't really seen what the big deal was, it wasn't like he'd actually hurt anyone but his brother hardly ever spoke to him in the next few years before their parents had died. It was rather lucky he had any family at all as Cairan's brother was supposed to have been in that car too that day when it's brakes failed and flew off the road, if the same Jessica hadn't invited herself round unannounced Cairan's brother would have been lost too.

Cairan had flown in the night before the meeting, enjoying a rather nice evening in his penthouse hotel, joined by two ladies of the night and a Four Seaons pizza so big it was more like 16 seasons. The evening's memory made him smile as he arrived and was shown to his host. "Albanus, lovely to see you and your beautiful wife." Cairan eyed the young woman with envy but then reminded himself half his nymphs were even more beautiful and so the envy faded. "I trust you're well?"

Jake Thompson, "Duke of Silverhills", Borland Liberation Army Captain

Jake wasn't your typical Borlander on the surface, he lived in a luxury house on the edge of Silverhills one of East Moreland's wealthiest postcodes. He drove around town in one of a fleet of sportscars and he attended the very best parties. It was all a front though and his cover as a internet marketing guru was a disguise for his hacking and cyber warfare attempts against the East Moreland government, something he was actually rather good at. He donated money very publically to "Legionnaire Legacy", a charity that supported East Moreland's brave wounded veterans and he threw a lavish party on the King's birthday, all giving him a reputation in the local community as a patriot. The truth was though his father had been a Borlander, and his grand-father, both had been friends with the Barrens and from birth Jake had been groomed by his father to adopt a role inside East Moreland society to help support their noble cause.

It had always been his father's intention that Jake would be a soldier, a fighting man, and when he'd shown less flare with a rifle and more with a keyboard he'd felt disappointed in his son. Then one day he witnessed his son hack into an EMAC database and that had opened his eyes, the Borlanders had been fighting a 20th Century Guerilla War, and yet here was his 14 year old son already fighting a 21st one against the enemy. From that moment on Jake's father had been proud of his son and they'd used every chance they could to get him access to more knowledge with computers. The more he'd learnt the more he had proved valuable to the mission of reclaiming their homeland.

His first real operation had been at the age of 17, he'd hacked the systems of a bank in Silverhills and managed to control them while his father and four Borlanders robbed the place blind for funds to keep themselves in rifles and bullets. Next he'd shown how to clone credit cards and even manipulate transfers all from the comfort of an arm chair. That had brought him to Kyle Barren's attention and they'd agreed Jake would become a deep cover agent for them, first going to the Royal Northfort University to study more computer related subjects, and then setting him up with a business. Since then he'd probed and monitored as much of the Morelanders systems as he could, finding back doors to sensitive areas every now and again.

His true skill though was organising things such as imports of equipment, transfers of funds through tens of banks simultaneously to make it hard to track funding and his favourite of finding the hidden secrets people kept on computer and promising never to reveal them, for a hefty fee. The IT company gave him the perfect cover for travelling and so he'd risen in the Borlander ranks and was trusted to represent his true King at meetings like this, the Morelander authorities confident he was just a young business man heading overseas to make a quick buck.

He'd hired himself a Porsche once he'd arrived and now enjoyed a quick blast down the coast until he reached Albanus' house. Taking his sunglasses off and putting them into his pale blue shirt pocket he approached the gate and once security was confident he was who he said he was he was permitted inside. "Albanus, Cairan" Jake nodded at each as he approached and put his briefcase down, "Mrs. Ares" he added noticing the young wife as he opened the brown leather case. "I thought you'd enjoy this" he handed Albanus a case of cigars and a CD on top, "Something to enjoy while you watch the footage" he gave a slight wink having tracked down some incriminating footage of the local Mountjoy police chief and a woman who certainly wasn't his wife.
