KING TO HOST UNIQUE VISIT

Having turned 88 just a month ago  King Kārlis IV is about to embark on a series of international visits as well as hosting state visits from others. There have been leaks from the Foreign Office that a meeting is being worked on between the nation and Heyra but no official confirmation has been given yet. The first official announcement on the King's diplomatic calendar though is with the not globally recognised "Theocracy of Kaitaine". The aging King is scheduled to meet the head of the Bene Gesserit Sisterhood a religion with a small diaspora in Chistopol whom have attempted to hide themselves away for several years. The Reverend  Mother of the Faith is due to meet the King on Saturday and will be accorded honours usually reserved for Heads of State. A representative of the Foreign Office explained saying, "We consider this a fact finding mission. The Reverend  Mother of the Bene Gesserit faith is a leader of a religion with members across Mundus. As a show of respect to such a person it is the right thing to do to offer a formal state welcome. Our policy on the Theocracy is not yet worked out. I need to emphasis this is not us welcoming a leader of a nation such as if we do arrange a meeting with Heyra, this is a meeting with a significant religious figure."

It is estimated that around 800,000 members of the Bene Gesserit faith currently live in Chistopol however some think the number may be higher. "In the last Census 21% of the nation claimed to follow other faiths. This would mean 29 million people who are citizens of the Kingdom are followers of some faith other than our native faiths, or alternatively don't see themselves as religious. Some of those are certain to have not declared being Bene Gesserit at the last census which took place two years ago."

The on going civil war in Kaitaine has seen the territory next to the border with Chistopol occupied by fighters proclaiming the Theocracy. So far the Kingdom has not given an official stance on the Theocracy but today the King said. "We will not tolerate our territorial sovereignty being breached by anyone. We've been there before and the suffering it caused is not something I wish upon any nation. We are aware many think the militia of the Bene Gesserit are terrorists and perhaps that is true. We need to know more before we get to a decision the Chamber of the People approve of." So far not a single member of the 700 members Chamber of the People has confirmed that they are members of that faith.

Extra security is being brought in for the Mother's visit to Chistopol and considering the scenario of the Sisterhoods global status the location of the meeting is not being announced.

DRILL HALL TO BE REBORN

Following a meeting between the leader of the Bene Gesserit faith and the government of Chistopol it is announced that a plan to renovate the old People's Drill Hall has been agreed. Under the terms of the agreement the Bene Gesserit Sisterhood will convert the Drill Hall into a public library and some teaching rooms. The agreement will see part of the initial funding provided by the Chistopol government however much of the work will be funded by the Bene Gesserit. The new library will be one of many projects in the coming months as the government seek to regenerate the capital of Tartu. The capital was largely left in disarray following the end of occupation by the Communists in the 1960's. Since the removal of the Communists the nation has largely spent its time ensuring the return of the strong agriculture and textile industry that had once been the pride of the nation. Many have argued that investment into the capital city has been largely lacking and many have argued that this is holding the nation back as it is stopping the city developing into a proper hub for business.

First Minister Darijus Laine has today confirmed that a project in the district which contains the old Workers Drill Hall, which was used to supervise and conduct forced labour of political prisoners, will commence and see a new financial district develop. "It is the hope of myself and the government that we can establish a centre for East Aranye to have a financial hub. We want to attract banks, insurance companies, investment houses and various other service sector players. It is my hope that this can kickstart a whole new life for Tartu and in turn help further increase the economic rebirth of the nation." The capital city has a GDP per capita of around $12,000 while those of other areas of Chistopol are around $5,000- $8,000 more a year.

FIRST MINISTER PROPOSES MULTI-NATIONAL PARTNERSHIP

Crown Prince Kārlis and First Minister Darijus Laine today returned from a conference in Cassiopeia where the nation has provisionally signed up to a multi-national partnership. The treaty will see Chistopol join with the host nation, Drenovia and Paracambi to foster international co-operation while maintaining each nations full control over all matters of their own policies and laws. The Treaty however will now require the assent of the Chamber of the People which is expected to discuss the matter when it returns on January 2nd following a week long break for the New Year.

First Minister Laine who represents the Chistopol Unity Party (CUP) will personally present the treaty to the Chamber for debate and has already spoke warmly of the potential of the new arrangement. "It was very very clear to us that the other three nations are excited to be working together and recognise the potential for what this can do. The economic aspects of the treaty will allow our blossoming manufacturing sector and our flourishing agricultural industries to find markets keen to receive them meanwhile our businesses can now access investment from nations economically ahead of ourselves which is something that can only help our own economy. We have seen the threat of Communism in the past and the fear of having to stand again against a threat was constant. This arrangement does not guarantee these nations would come to our aid but it does mean nations must now take the gamble that instead of fighting one nation they would face four. We keep ourselves protected also from natural threats such as disease thanks to parts of this. The whole thing is win win for our nation as at the end of the day while we can tie into the mechanisms of the treaty we can also maintain our own laws and standards. I will be warmly promoting the treaty to the Chamber and I am confident that it will pass overwhelmingly."

There is however voices of opposition in the guise of Luule Koppel who is the leader of the Ultra-Nationalist Three Leopards Party. Miss Koppel criticised the treaty saying, "While I agree this is a great agreement to be part of economically we must not sell our souls for a handful of silver. This treaty opens up our borders to an influx of foreign influence and we must treat them as though they are Chistopolians. That should never be the case, on our soil our folk must be given priority in all matters. I am saddened to see the Crown Prince forced into signing a document that has great potential to betray our very way of life. What starts off as a treaty designed to give sovereignty to all will creep into a carbon copy of something like the CSU and that globalist regime must not be allowed to take even a toehold in our Kingdom." It is likely however that Miss Koppel's opposition is likely to have little impact as the Three Leopards hold only 18 seats in the Chamber out of a total of 274.

With the Chistopol Unity Party holding close to 55% of seats it is likely the treaty will be approved with little issue especially as the Liberal Party have long called for the nation to embrace large trade deals and are thus likely to add their 11% of seats to the CUP's.

NEW LIBRARY OPENS

Today in Tartu the Bene Gesserit Sisterhood have opened a major new library. The faith which is native to Kaitaine where it is persecuted by the Communists have funded the redevelopment of the old People's Drill Hall. It was opened today by Royal Matron Lady Viktorias alongside delegations from the Sisterhood. Lady Viktorias has served as Royal Matron since 2016 and has focused a lot of her work on supporting children to gain better access to education and health. Speaking at the opening Lady Viktorias stated "There is nothing more powerful than being able to read. Reading leads to oppurtunities and whether they are oppurtunities for pleasure or to advance your own future they are equally as important. Today we thank the Bene Gesserit Sisterhood for allowing people of all ages, but I hope mainly children, to access a vast amount of new knowledge and new stories. We shall welcome the Sisterhood's staff to our capital and I look forward to many visits here in the future."

As of yet the Kingdom of Chistopol is to recognise the region of Kaitaine currently held by the Sisterhood known as the Theocracy of Kaitaine however the King has had a meeting with the head of the Bene Gesserit faith. The Royal Press Office explained that this meeting was responsible for the new library being built. The government however have stated that the Theocracy having been accused of utilising child soldiers in the past is making formal recognition of the Theocracy "a barrier to legitimacy that could be overcome with honest and open dealing."

KOPPEL PREPARES LANGUAGE CHALLENGE

Luule Koppel, the leader of the political party "The Three Leopards" has today announced that at next weeks "Opposition Day" in the Chamber of the People she will table a motion to end the compulsory teaching of Gaelic in Chistopolian schools. The Three Leopards Party are described by many as being right leaning and advocate a removal of all connections to the days of occupation by the Communists from Kaitaine and the USR. One of these legacies was the influx of so called "technical experts" who were put in charge of key aspects of Chistopol's infrastructure such as Police, Electric Power Stations and even Hospitals. As such during this time Gaelic became an important language within Chistopol as most of these "experts" were from Kaitaine. This resulted in around 40 years of schools teaching Gaelic to ensure that Chistopolians could engage with the occupiers. This process is what Miss Koppel, grand-daughter of her parties founder Heino Koppel, has described as "Linguistic Genocide". The 39 year old politician controls 6% of the People's Chamber and is therefore allowed to submit one motion for debate. This will be time limited to an hour after which a vote will be taken to consider the motion during a full session of the People's Chamber, the first step towards a change in the law. Miss Koppel has explained during a press conference the need for this change. "Chistopol is a a nation that our First Minister would have you believe is rebuilding and regaining its strength. Any part of a nations strength is its cultural identity and that must be protected. We see Gaelic, a language not native to our lands, being spoken in schools, at the bus stop and even on TV. While the Communists would have us think they were striving to make Chistopol a place of equality their language genocide created a two tier system. Those considered the elite speaking Gaelic and those of us left below our own language. Today that continues. First Minister Darijus Laine took control in 2016 and has done nothing to dismantle this system, if anything it has become worse as his educational policy gives everyone four years of Gaelic education before making it a subject continued only by those considered the "academic elite". A language serves to allow people to communicate and if the so called Academic Elite are speaking one language then they do not communicate with the rest of society openly. It is my belief that Gaelic as a compulsory language must be dropped and our own tongue taught as the only language within our school system. We have seen globally the way nations have re-birthed their own language, East Moreland being a prime example, but we instead are still clinging to this elitist babble."

The proposal is likely to get strong support from the Dievasian Party who represent the religious communities of Chistopol. This party is lead by Margarita Koppel (no relation) and places an emphasis on the promotion of tradition faith based values, among them reading the sacred texts in the language they were written. Margarita Koppel's party control 8% of the Chamber of the People meaning that even if they combine with the Three Leopards they will only have 14% of the votes towards the motion. Margarita has though publicly supported the motion saying, "Our nation faced the attempted eradication of the Dievasian Faith and thankfully we survived. Today the worship of our native faiths account for 80% of our population with those following our path making up 35% of the entire nation. Nothing would bring me more joy than to see young people reading the texts in our own language. We will be supporting Luule's proposal and hope in turn she will support ours." The exact wording of the Dievasian Parties motion for "Opposition Day" has not yet been revealed but it is expected that it will call on the inclusion of oaths to at least one of the three tribes of Gods recognised as native to Chistopol when taking a position within the Chamber of the People or joining the military. This has been proposed before however First Minister  Laine believed last time it was proposed that it would "do more harm than good." explaining this by saying, "Over centuries our three faiths fought against each other determined to show the tribe they followed was most important or more powerful, that only they had the true path to paradise. Bringing religion back as a factor in our institutions such as the military and government make it more likely this tribalism that goes along often with religion can regrow. We are a nation currently united as never before and as such we should embrace the fact that each of these three native faiths are brothers and sisters to each other, a family, rather than driving wedges between ourselves."

Opposition Day happens every three months and gives each of the five minor parties the chance to introduce a motion to the Chamber of the People. A strict 30 minutes is given to present the motion and then a strict 1 hour debate time limit is set after which a ballot is taken, not on whether the motion should become law but rather on should the motion be given a full debate in the Chamber of the People. Any gaining a majority of votes are then turned into full proposals and must be considered formally within six weeks of the initial introduction. Very few Opposition Day motions have ever progressed to become fully fledged laws and generally are used by the opposition party leaders as a way of creating nationwide debates or taking advantage of government blunders or perceived weaknesses.

It is not yet known what the Liberal Party, Republican Party or Green Party are likely to put forward as there proposals.

LAINE: "BE PATIENT AT THE BORDER"

Since the Tartu Accords were signed just 24 hours ago there has already been scenes at the border of people trying to cross into what many are now calling the Theocracy of Kaitaine. The new Accord will see the West of the neighbouring nation of Kaitaine effectively become a new nation under the control of the Bene Gesserit faith. Currently there are an estimated 12 million members of the Bene Gesserit faith located in Chistopol with communities here being able to trace their history back around 800 years. With the Soviet occupation of first Kaitaine and then Chistopol many members of the faith went into hiding, some around Mundus while others simply kept their faith hidden in Chistopol. With the Communists defeated in Chistopol the faith made a reappearence and December 2020 the faith opened a huge library in the capital of Tartu. As part of the arrangement an air corridor between the Theocracy and Chistopol will be established. The news of the Theocracy being established though has seen some members of the faith attempting to cross the border already. Long lines had formed at the border which had always been heavily fortified because of threats from the Communist south. Estimates from this publication saw around 1,500 people trying to cross the border and it is thought many more will be coming in the next few days. The move has lead to First Minister Laine appealing for patience.

"We have an unprecedented situation. We have potentially several thousand individuals attempting to cross a border which we have intentionally created to not be passable. We designed our side of the border there to repulse tanks if need be. The systems and infrastructure that may exist between a border for say Ui Cenneslaig and Cantabria just aren't in place. It will take us days to get people processed on our side and then naturally the authorities in the West of Kaitaine must do likewise and they start from nothing. I appeal for people not to make the journey yet, consider your move as the long term security can not be confirmed and the availability of homes, services and other daily needs is not yet clear. People need to ideally stay where they are and give time. We do not naturally want people to move to Kaitaine but I can understand the desire. Anyone making this trip needs to be patient at the border."

Long lines had formed and with a lack of catering or rest-room facilities many families began to swarm towards the border in an effort to quickly get across. It was estimated that a total of around 500 successfully crossed however some bedded down for the night in their cars.

King Karlis made a noticably different statement from First Minister Laine. The First Minister was careful in all of his statements to not use the word "Theocracy" however the King said clearly. "I am always saddened to see people migrate away from a land we fought so hard for to remove Communists from. Now as these people head to the Theocracy they do so guided by their faith but I am sad to see them go. There has been and could be a rich tradition of the Bene Gesserit faith here in Chistopol however with the faithful leaving they are missing an opportunity to spread their contribution. I naturally wish to Theocracy well and having fought my own actions against the Communist I tip my hat to the bravery and guile of the Truthsayers."

Talks are expected to happen at some point in the future between the leadership of the "Theocracy" and Chistopol about future arrangements.

NEW NATIONAL THEATRE TO OPEN SOON

The National Performing Arts Theatre for Chistopol will open in two months. The flagship project will create a new modern hub in the captial of Tartu. The design see's two indoor theatres in ultra-modern auditoriums with an open air roof top theatre capable of seating 4,000 people for shows in the outdoors. The theatre was designed by local designers and will cost around £220million. Many people however have criticised First Minister Laine for the cost of the project with one local resident saying. "I'm sure it will be a beautiful building but some of us in the capital still battle with poor roads, inadequate sewage systems and a public transport system that is a joke. The neglect of infastructure during the Communist occupation means we're still lacking the same standards as some other nations. A theatre is not the way forward."

Laine however has defended the project saying. "While we have been building the new theatre the area around it has seen work commence on its roads, new utilities have been put in and it is highly likely those living in the area around it will see a significant improvement in their lives as a result. Eventually other projects will be built across the capital and all areas will see the benefit of this type of project. The new theatre will allow us to host major international events which will draw people to Tartu meaning we have a chance to capture more investment, local businesses will see an influx of foreign guests and hopefully they'll bring with them their wallets. I for one can not wait for the first event to take place here."

The theatre is expected to open with a concert featuring the nations best musicians. It is also announced that the new theatres director is also looking for an oppurtunity to bring a major international event to the venue such as something along the lines to the Ozzies or Achkaerin's Edelweiss festival.

FIRST MINISTER PLEASED WITH DEAL

First Minister Darijus Laine has returned, along with Crown Prince Kārlis, from a tri-nations meeting in Waddan. The meeting entitled "Protecting Soviet Borders" was hosted by the Sultan of Waddan and attended by representatives of the Theocracy of Kaitaine and the First Minister. Over the course of the talks the First Minister explained several things were discussed but all nations saw fit to conclude an arrangement which feel short of a mutual defence pact. While the foreign treaty will require Royal Ascent this is a mere formality as First Minister Laine enjoys a majority in the Chamber of the People. Speaking at Tartu Airport upon his return home the First Minister stated. "Our monarch knows only too well the dangers of Soviet occupation and I know King Kārlis will recognise the value of this arrangement. Today we have sent a clear message that we will not permit those over the border to present problems for our people. The agreement means we shall keep each other posted of intelligence we gather and we will help each other hone our armed forces so that they can be in peak condition to, if required, defend our borders."

The agreement even gained the support of the leader of the Three Leopards Party, Luule Koppel, who traditionally have opposed much of the First Minister's policies. Miss Koppel stated, "I believe strongly this is exactly the kind of arrangement that we here in Chistopol need. We are a nation that defeated the Soviets and it is only right that those who border this evil are prepared to repel it. I would have liked him to have gone further and utilised this as an anti-Communist alliance that one day will drive into Rodina and Kaitaine, returning the whole of Kaitaine to the Bene Gesserit who in this short time have proven to be valued neighbours. That though can maybe come in the months and years ahead. I will be instructed our members to vote in favour of giving this treaty Royal Ascent and would consider anyone who does not to be an enemy of Chistopol."

Later in the day news from Clysperis' Pharaoh though asked why they had not been part of the talks having been at one time occupied by the Soviets. First Minister Laine explained, "The guest list was drawn up by the Sultan of Waddan, with the talks being entitled "Protecting Soviet Borders" and Clysperis today being over 1000km and a whole nation removed from that border they would not qualify. The Pharoah however talks of being battle tested against the Soviets yet casts disrespect on our own nation. Our own King lead us to victory over the Soviets as part of the King's Royal Rangers. Following his success he spent the next 18 years in uniform ensuring the safe borders of our nation. Now should the Pharoah wish actual co-operation in regards to anti-Soviet stances she will find my government entirely interested. That agreement though would look very different to one that involves those of us who sit cheek by jowl with the Soviets. Also it is important to note that this is not the first interaction between our three nations, we were instrumental in helping the Theocracy find their place in the world, we have agreements with Waddan regarding trade of materials and I am aware that the Theocracy have supported the engagement of education in Waddan. It is therefore only natural the three of us would walk a path towards closer co-operation. Meanwhile Clysperis still sits outside this group of friends. Should the Pharoah wish to come and visit Tartu she'll find an open door if she comes with an acceptance that her nations achievements are not to dissimilar than those who have already meet."

It is not known whether this offer will be taken up however.

"ARROGANCE OF MONARCHIES" SPILTS LEADERSHIP

Following the "referendum" on the independence of the Kingdom of Eigg returning a result of over 60% of Eiggites wanting independence from the Federation the government of Chistopol has been split on its response. Rather unsurprisingly Crown Prince Kārlis has come out in support of Queen Aoife of Eigg whereas the First Minister has given a much more cautious response. Following a meeting of the cabinet the First Minister made the following statement. "No one should be surprised that so many of the great monarchies of Mundus have jumped to support a young headstrong Queen. Not a single legal path has been followed in the creation of what she has called a referendum. Not a single motion put forward in the Federation's elected body, not a single petition presented, not even a motion for a debate on the future of the Federation. In a series of decisions that involve just a single person we have seen the apparatus of democracy usurped to reach an end that best suits Queen Aoife. Now she is being made to sound like some kind of martyr for her cause while simply having to face the very laws that govern the nation she lives in. In the coming days she will have her chance in court and as she herself said when her own father was sentenced to 7 years in prison for sexual offences, a sentence that in my view is far too lenient, "the result of court deliberations must, as always, be respected." Which also poses the question why had she not utilised the courts to right this injustice? The whole saga shows that in this case we have a monarch of a small part of the Federation who believes they can ride roughshod over the constitution of that nation when it suits."

Meanwhile Crown Prince Kārlis issued an open letter saying, "A monarch should be the sovereign power over their lands otherwise they are not a monarch. Queen Aoife is not a puppet for the Federation and I wish her campaign well and know all Chistopolians will be hopeful of her immediate release as that is the right thing to do."

Polls done by this publication however show that around 72% of Chistopolians believe the Queen should appear in court however 61% believe that a referendum should be re-run in a more official capacity. This is a move suggested by King David of East Moreland and seconded by the First Minister who said, " It is surprising to see a monarch from a highly undemocractic nation standing by the motion of democracy. I have meet King David and I like and respect him. While I hope he will embrace a more democratic system he at least is trying to find a sensible way forward and I would hope Queen Aoife would pay attention to wise fellow monarch rather than a baying herd of crowns." This publication did as King Kārlis for a statement however a Royal Press Officer simply said, "The matter is for Eigg and the Federation to reach what we hope will be a peaceful solution."
