Winter Games IV
« on: February 14, 2018, 09:55:35 PM »
IT'S BACK!!!

This was due back in August/September but with the whole forum switch it didn't happen however one of the few advantages to that forum switch is the ability to right the Mundus Sporting Calendar so now at the fourth attempt we are finally having the Winter Games in winter. For those who don't know this is the Mundus equivalent of the Winter Olympics.

As per last year  you as the RPer are in the signup going to decide which events your nation enters and how many athletes they enter. Confused well let me try and explain, take an RL country that enters the RL Winter Olympics that's similar population wise to yours and use the number of athletes they send as a guideline- for example population wise Achkaerin is slightly larger than Great Britain so I'd blatantly rip of GB's total number of athletes for my nations team size that doesn't mean I have to match the events they entered though because my nations focus may be on other areas to that of the RL nation.

There's a coded sign up at the bottom of the post for people to do. I welcome people including athletes names alongside their respective events but that's not an absolute requirement as long as you say which events you're entering and how many athletes are entering that event.

As in previous years you may select up to three disciplines (those things in large font) for your nation to specialize in, this will increase your chances of getting medals in those disciplines but will not guarantee them (I suggest tailoring teams to the specialist disciplines you choose athlete wise)

Finally bidding information for prospective hosts is included after the list of events.

Bidding Information

The bidding process requires nations wishing to host to submit requested information, what information is dependent on the event in question. There will be a deadline set for bid submissions in this case the 20th September any bids entered after that date will not be considered unless the vote has not opened. As you can probably guess from that sentence once bidding closes there will be a vote conducted by vote this will not be in the form of a poll but in the form of a post in this topic (this is to ensure fairness of the vote)

So with that in mind the following is the criteria for the Winter Games bids
  • Information on venues- how much information you go into is up to you but a word of advice pictures are always welcome.
  • Name of the Main TV Rights Holder (For example Tytorian News Service or EMTV)
  • Information relating to the athletes village and accommodation for the media and fans.
  • Importantly a written letter signed by a ranking member of your government stating that they will provide safe venues and protective services for all athletes and staff no matter which nation they hail from. (No refusing entry to a nation or holding people prisoner because you don't get along in RP with their nation).
The last bullet point is particularly important and should be considered along the lines of the Olympic truce.

Also a point I always try to make, the host nation is responsible for starting the IC thread with an opening ceremony and also concluding the thread following the final results with a closing ceremony should they wish to do so. I'll still be putting up the results for each day etc.

And as a final incentive the host nation shall receive a small boost across the board in all disciplines they compete in due to the 'home advantage'

HOST BID
Spoiler: show

Skiing/Boarding //
The Crystal Mountains just outside the coastal city of Westport are host to a multitude of terrain perfect for events ranging from the Super G to Slopestyle. Open areas on the mountain can be tailored to suit any event (ex. Ski Jumping) and the range contains some of the longest downhill skiing in the FIR. As for cross country there are many trails throughout the woods at the base of the mountains.

Curling, Ice Hockey, Speed Skating, and Figure Skating //
The IRHL has propped up some of the best Ice Rinks in recent memory, with Westport (pictured right) being the home of the Westport Windcatchers home rink. The rink is set to International standard and is ideal for hosting Speed Skating, Hockey and Figure Skating, although other rinks are available throughout the country (New Dublin pictured left). The attached curling facilities are state of the art and easily accessible due to their shared location.

Athlete Village //
4 structures identical to the one pictured form a ring for the Athlete Village. All reasonable accommodations will be provided upon Athletes request.

Media and fans have various hotels within the city to stay in.

ISC (Irish Sports Central) would be the local network responsible for broadcasting the event.

Quote
On Behalf of the Final Irish Republic,

We welcome athletes of all race, creed, nationality, sexuality, and ideology to compete on the world stage. Everyone deserves the ability to prove themselves and especially to represent their country, regardless of any opposing viewpoint. We would be humbled to be selected to host you all and hope to see Mundus' best in action.

Sincerely,

KROKOM 2018

SKI JUMPS COMING HOME

The nation of Nya Åland is a proud winter sports nation. It is believed by many that the sport of Ski Jumping had its origins in Krokom in the 19th Century at Høydalsmo Hill. It is this location just 25km outside of our nations capital that we wish to bring the sport home to. As such Krokom wishes to host the 2018 Winter Games.

Our nation already boasts world class winter sports facilities with the hills around the capital providing ample opportunities for ski and snowboard events. The steady supply of snow means that we can ensure a problem free games bringing about quality conditions for each sport. Arenas exist for the Cross Country, Biathlon and similar events.

There are no shortage of ice arenas in Krokom, Ice Hockey is a national past time and many people even play on lakes. The final however shall take place in our 20,000 indoor arena known as the Ice Palace, home of the Krokom Vikings Ice Hockey franchise.

The jewel in our crown however is where it all started, Høydalsmo Hill, the mythical home of the ski jump. Bringing the games to Krokom will allow competitors to tread on the very sport where many believe the ski jump began. They will be permitted to use the newly refurbished hill which will be the centre point of our games.

Athletes will be housed at the Vandersson Sporting Institute and University, a specialist campus that is part of Krokom University. The campus features dining halls, gyms, physio rooms and a whole host of facilities needed by top athletes. The students from the campus are excited to have a chance to mingle with the athletes and will be acting as volunteers to support visiting athletes in anyway. Additionally the VSIU has excellent transport links with the venues and we will be installing even more trams and buses to held our sports people have hassle free experiences.

The games will be produced by NTV (Nordic TV) who are experts in filming winter sports, as a result of them being a staple part of life here in our nation. They will also be putting on hand a team of media personalities who will be happy to work with TV crews from across Mundus to help them understand some of the more technical parts of the sports.

Naturally all athletes regardless of nationality, gender, sexuality or race will be welcomed to Krokom where they will be impressed by the warmth of Nordic hospitality. The games also give the international community a chance to help us show that following the great disaster in Uppsala Nya  Åland is back on the map.

We look forward to welcoming you all to Krokom for Ski Jumps glorious homecoming.

Head Gothi Stein Ulfsson.

If possibly could men and womens Bandy be included as a demonstration sport, possibly under Ice Hockey.

If possibly could men and womens Bandy be included as a demonstration sport, possibly under Ice Hockey.

That's fine by me (will confess I had to look it up), I'll add it, people are welcome to add it in to their entries.

Voting For the Host is now Open.

The prospective hosts are as follows:

Krokom (Nya Aland)
Westport (Final Irish Republic
Heyra

As is the usual process with three or more bids the host is determined by use of a points allocation system. Each vote will rank from 1-3 the three host bids, the first place bid will receive 3 points, second place 2 points, third place one point. At the end of voting the bid with the most cumulative points will win the right to host. Voting is open until the 13th of March (Tuesday next week).
