Political and Societal System

Ivaenjaliyan society is organised around the Gehennavist concept of pavule minisun (trans. family men). Due to the nation's nature of being mainly based on many small but elevated high islands, there is often only enough room for a single family to live and raise their livestock. The extremely low population density and spread of the population means that every family is, for all intents and purposes, practically autonomous. People typically follow the trade set out by their fore-fathers, most often rearing livestock and harvesting grown produce, however the sons that return home after their traditional samamuhurtakaraṇaya (trans. synchronisation) will often be taught in medicine, metal-working or other useful skills, to alleviate some of the reliance the family has on other Gayiyan families that have practised specialised skills for generations. Families pay a tithe every decade-and-a-half in the form of goods to the central monastery, indeed goods are often traded without the use of currency and no currency is recognised by the central monastery. Very little industrialisation has taken place within Ivaenjaliyan, the spread out nature of the populace and Gehennavist scriptures hindering it significantly. Upon the Aebaṭ's death, a successor is chosen from amongst the upper ranks of the central monastery, stripping themselves of all former identity they held and taking the name of Lilitadamandeve.

Samamuhurtakaraṇaya

Upon reaching the age of 8, male children are sent to the central monastery, where they spend two decades in training. There they're taught the path of the swordsman, the path of the scholar and the path of the monk, the three central tenants of the īvā, the perfect soldier within Gehennavist philosophy, alongside other skills that they'll find useful in day-to-day life. This is done in an effort to prepare the population for Gehennava, the final battle that could break out at any second within the third impact of the Gehennavist cyclical cycle of the death and rebirth of the human race. The effort also instils within the children a fierce sense of fanaticism and nationalism, comradeship with many others their age being woven through the experience. It also gives them a proper education, where up to the age of they left, they were homeschooled by their mother. Returning home from Samamuhurtakaraṇaya is a cause of celebration for many families, the returning son often receiving the symbol of Gehennava (the seven-eyed pyramid) branded onto their forehead as a sign of celebration and resistance to evil. Sadly for some families, if their son is found to be a Dakinava (trans. seeing) they'll never them again. Dakinava are said to be "blessed" with the ability to see what others cannot and are said to be able to draw the subconscious reality into the conscious. (OOC- they cannot, this is not me using magic in rp, this is pure superstition and religion.) They are recruited into the central monastry, as their perceived magic is thought of as a great tool to use during Gehennava.

Gehennavism

Gehennavism is a religion originating from somewhere in East Ardia. It was picked up by some of the Gayiya during their migration across the sea, and was quickly adopted by the survivors. Gehennavism is an evolution of Buddhism, which is itself an evolution of Hinduism. The name comes from its followers' belief in Gehennava, an inevitable war pitching man against beings known in Gayiya as "Sito".

According to Gehennavism, the world follows a constant cyclical cycle. The world is trapped within the cycle as the collective karma of man is negative, resulting in the cycle beginning again and again. If the Sito are defeated within Gehennava, the final event within each cycle, the karma of man will swing positive, freeing man collectively from the cycle of life, death and rebirth. Following traditional Buddhist teachings, Gehennavism also follows the belief that an individual can be liberated from the cycle through karma achieved by performing good deeds.

The cycle consists of three parts, with the beginning of each stage being called an impact. Certain events can happen any time during the stage. The first stage, arambhaya kicks off the cycle, containing events such as the birth of the universe and the development of humanity. The first impact happened just before the universe began. The second stage, maedaraṭa contains events such as the birth of Buddhism and the revelation to scholars on Gehennava. The second impact is thought to have begun around 2300 BC. The third stage, avasana, is the final stage, containing events such as Gehennava and the subsequent rebirth of the universe. The third impact was thought to have taken place around 30AD.

The concept of the īvā, the perfect soldier, ties into the greater Gehennavist concept of the subconscious world, a world accessed through either innate skill, as in the case of the Dakinava, or through mastering the three paths, as in the case of the īvā. The īvā is said to be able to move entire mountains with their skill and it is this status desired by all Gehennavist monks, though, as of yet, no one has achieved the status within recorded history.

Areas of the Order

Jericho

The piece of land currently "owned" by the order on the mainland continent of Albion is outrageously rocky and mountainous. This is mainly accredited by researchers to the same unstable tectonic movements that caused the phenomenon of the Alola islands. Indeed, many of the largest mountains within Jericho are actually dormant volcanoes, the last known eruption within the region being recorded in the 2nd century.

Jericho is currently not home to any members of the Order. It is currently mainly uninhabited, save for a nomadic peoples called Jericos. Due to an agreement between the Order and the Representative Khan of the Jericos, the area was a "vassal" of the Order for two centuries, the Jericos paying a small tithe in return for assistance against foreign invaders. The agreement is no longer recognised by the Order (and as such Jericho's population is not recorded in this factbook), claiming that the agreement expired over a thousand years ago, pointing to the lack of any tithes or assistance the two people have paid each other. In contrast, the elected Representative Khan for the Jerico people maintains that Jericho is "de jure part of the Order", pointing to the traditional relationship between the two peoples. Despite all this, Jericho is all but independent, though the nomadic nature of its people mean that substantial government, international relations or industrial growth have had a hard time growing.

The Alola islands

Off the coast of Jericho are the Alola islands. A large chain of small islands, tectonic and volcanic processes have forced thousands of these small yet tall islands out of the seabed and into the day. Due to the small size of the islands, there's usually very little room, reducing the living space on each island to around a single family at best. Members of the Order usually travel by ship, with children being handed the ropes and being taught to swim from a young age, echoing their culture's ancient maritime traditions.

History of the Gayiyan people

The Gayiyan people originate from the Ardian Peninsula. In the 4th century, due to unknown reasons, the majority of the Gayiyans fled across the sea, eventually settling on the Alola islands. It is generally agreed upon that the majority of those migrating perished during the trip, likely due sea storms. Boats recovered from the sea floor more or less exactly match the small ten-man ships used to navigate the Alola islands today, showing little evolution in their design, even over a millennium.

The Gayiyan had various contacts with other peoples over the years. Most notably, the tribes of Jericho submitted to the control of the Gayiyan Order of name, following the relief of the Jerico tribes from the yoke of the Galacian tribes (now extinct) by the warrior monks of the Order. They had some conflict with the Albionic pirates, who would often attack the spaced out islands and use it as a base of operations or just loot the place. Trade with the various nations that began to form overtime resulted in greater and greater diplomatic relations with those same nations, though the trade was often not beneficial, and the Gayiyan people only rarely got any richer. Due to their geographical position, and strong naval tradition, invasion by a land power was almost impossible, with all attempts failing.

During the Great War, the Order remained staunchly neutral, not even aware that a conflict was ongoing until they were informed by a visiting foreigner in 1931. Since then, the Order has remained pretty isolationist.
