Cycling season 2023 OOC
« on: December 02, 2022, 01:17:45 PM »

Cycling season 2023

Another cycling season may start. Those interested to have their own elite cycling events (for road cycling) for professional teams through the season can apply here. Those interested to host a cycling event the coming year, you can apply filling the following form:

Quote
Name: (Name of the race)
Location: (Nation where the race would be held)
Gender: Men's / Women's / Both (Choose one)
Season: Winter / Spring / Summer / Autumn / I don't mind (Choose one)
Terrain: (Any info about the event terrain you would like to specify, such as it is mostly flat, it includes hills, around a mountainous region or rather an urban circuit)
More info: (Any info about the race or the organizators you would like to add)

A bit of explanation about the categories required, if needed:
  • A bit self-explanatory, I guess, but Gender refers if your race is men's race, a women's race, or if you would be interested to have both races (it's not required to held both the same day, though, so you may indicate so if you wish).
  • Season simply refers which season of the year the race is usually held. You may consider RP considerations, of course (if your nation is too cold on Winter or too hot on Summer, for example, or any other circumstances)
  • Terrain refers the type of the terrain, such as Flat, Medium-mountain, Mountain, Hilly, Cobblestone, etc., or even Time-trial. If it is not specify, it will be considered as a mixed type.

Example:

Quote
Name: Albrektberg Classic
Location: Unitary State of Mktvartvelo
Gender: Women's
Season: Spring
Terrain: Flat
More info: The Albrektberg Classic is a women's one-day cycling race held in the Free Autonomous Territory of Jugland, Mktvartvelo, since 2006. The race is organized by Jugland Sports Network (JSNN).

At first, I will not introduce any limitation on the number of cycling events a country can host through the season, as I'd prefer to reduce the number of NPC races through the season. However, you shall keep in mind that these races will be races belonging to the Mundus Cycling Cup, and I would try that, as much as possible, there is a reasonable balance between the number of events in every continent, in case there would be more than expected applications. As last year, you may consider population and geographic limitations (or other RP situations going on in your nation).

Those who applied last year to the cycling season (with some exception) will be given preference, so the Season category will be only orientative (unless there are major IC reasons to be the case) to keep a balance in the cycling calendar through the season.

This time, I'm leaving out stage races for the application, but if you think you have a strong RP reason to have one, you can contact me. In either case, I'd encourage you to apply for one-day races, as they will be the only races that will be part of the Mundus Cycling Cup.

The deadline for applications to host a cycling event will be January 15, 2023. Applications for teams will be open in the next weeks as well. As usual, if anyone has any suggestion is free to do so.

Registration for the 2023 Cycling Calendar in road cycling is open now. You can submit your team for registration for all the 2023 season although, as this/last year, registration will be open before any event or race for either new teams or those who may to change the composition of their team.

Those interested may fill and post the following form in this thread:

Quote
Team name: (The name of the team)
Nation: (The team's nation)
Gender: (If it's a men's or women's team)
Riders:
  • Name (Age) [Type of rider]
  • Name (Age) [Type of rider]
  • Name (Age) [Type of rider]
  • Name (Age) [Type of rider]
  • Name (Age) [Type of rider]
  • Name (Age) [Type of rider]

  • There will be a limit of two teams per nation, independently if they are you're primary or secondary nation.
  • A team will be considered to belong to a nation from the point of view where the team is in-character registered, even when the team may be jointly owned or sponsored by companies/governments for two different nations. A team can only be registered in one nation (even in case where the management/ownership may be divided at a 50%).
  • For simplicity, the age of the rider will not change during the season. That's, if you list a rider as 24 years old, he was supposed to be born in 1999 and be that age during all events that season. The only purpose is to know if a rider may be available for the Youth classification prize, in events where it may exist. If you have previously stated in any character post the birthday of said rider, you can link it and I'll make an exception.

Explanation for Types of riders

Each rider will be assigned a fixed type of rider or specialism which will affect the perfomance of the rider. The performance of a rider will be determined by either the terrain of the race or the role the rider has in his team.

Category              Explanation
Time-trialistTime-trialists are riders that can generate high power over long periods of time in a race against the clock, therefore having the best performances in stage such as ITT (individual time-trial) or TTT (team time trial) stages. They have a more than decent performance in flat stages but they will be penalized in mass sprints and have a quite low performance in mountain stages.

A time trialist is not expected to be a contender for the general classification of a stage tour race. However, they can be useful for the team along as they will have the highest performance in time-trial stages.
SprinterA sprinter is a rider who can generate high power over short periods (a minute or less) allowing him for great finishing speeds. Sprinters will have a high performance in flat stages, particularly where a mass sprint is involved, while they will have an extremely low performance in mountain and time-trial stages.

Sprinters are not likely to be contenders at the general classification in a stage race due to their poor performance in mountain or time-trial stages. However, they are likely to give your team some important wins in one-day races (as long as the terrain is favourable) or individual stages in a stage race. They are also expected to have a greater chance of winning secondary prizes such as the Points classification. Sprinters will be given a bonus in mass sprints, particularly against other type of riders.
ClimberA climber is a rider who speclializes in riding uphill terrain faster than any other kind of rider. His high performance in hilly and mountain stages will allow him to win stages in these kind of stages and even be a contender for the general classification in a stage race. However, they have a very low performance in terrain such as flat and time-trial stages.

Climbers will have the highest performance in mountain stages, which allow them to be contenders in stage races such as the Tour of Ardia. However, their result in the general classification will be highly determined in the number of mountain stages a stage race may have.
PuncheurThe Puncheur or Classic rider is a type of rider who specializes in terrain with short but steep climbs. They will perform the best in hilly stages, while still having a decent performance in other terrains, such as flat, time-trial and even mountain stages.

Their consistence in different terrains make them riders who may bring a number of wins in either individual stages or one-day races to your team. They may still perform well enough in the general classification of a stage race for the same reasons, although their average performance in mountain stages make them less likely to be a contender for the final victory compared to climbers and GC riders.
GC riderThe GC (general classification) rider or all-rounder is a rider who can perform consistently in any kind of terrain (including mountain and time-trial stages) which make them great contenders for the general classification of stage race such as the Tour of Ardia.

A GC rider will have a higher than average performance in every kind of terrain, even if they -unlike the previous categories- they will not have the highest performance for a specific terrain. While that may reduce their chances to win many one-day or individual stages, they are likely to be the favourites to win the the general classification of a multi-day stage race, being usually the team leader for that kind of cycling races.

DomestiqueA domestique or servant is a rider which main role is to protect the leader or most talented riders of the team, particularly in stage races. They will be useful to help the leader or leaders of the team to win the general classification. However, they are unlikely to win any race or stage, as they will have the lowest performance in any kind of terrain.

While they are not likely to win many races or stages (or any at all), they can be useful for your team, particularly in stage races. They will give a bonus to the leader or most talented rider of the team. On the other hand, they will have a negative impact on the team chances to win the Team classification.

If you're not exactly familiarized with cycling and this category sounds too complicated (or you simply don't care) and still want to participate you can just leave the [Type of rider] category blank and I'll choose a specialism for your rider. If that was the case, it would be still helpful to indicate if you wish that your team focuses in one-day races or stage races.

Example of a team submission:

Quote
Team name: Valori Cycling Team
Nation: Mktvartvelo
Gender: Men's
Riders:
1. Malkhaz Zivzivadze (32) GC rider
2. Sigivald Gunnarsen (26) Sprinter
3. Imeda Kuputadze (27) Climber
4. Lasha Kiteishvili (31) Time-trialist
5. Zviad Azarovi (28) Puncheur
6. Levan Chabradze (25) Domestique

Name: The EMAC Prize Race
Location: Ostlake, East Moreland
Gender: Ideally Mens Race on Saturday, womens on Sunday
Season: Spring
Terrain: Race is a 175 mile loop around the Lake of Ostlake and the a mixture of realtively flat lakeside roads which twist and turn through several small villages. The first quarter of the race stays close to the lake before the next two quarters run on the ridge of the mountains that surround the lake, the final quarter runs along the lakeside and finishes in the city centre of the historic town of Ostlake (the old town does have some old stone roads which could be used.) EMAC are giving a substantial prize of $500,000 for the first place rider in each race.

Name: The EMAC Time Trial
Location: Ostlake, East Moreland
Gender: Ideally Mens Race on Sunday, womens on Saturday
Season: Spring
Terrain: EMAC hope the race can be part of a weekend with a traditional road race on one day and a time trial the next with men and women alternating. The Time trial would run the 26miles around Lake Ostlake. It would be timed to leave after the road race but finish before it. The Winner would be given a prize of $500,000.

Ostlake is essentially the RL Lake Geneva so think beautiful lakeside roads and alpine passes into mountains

However, through the backing of the local government, it continued, and since the early-to-mid 2000s, it has once again begun to regain its popularity.

There is room for 2-3 events in Autumn, if anyone is interested I'm extending the deadline until January 30.

The first event of the Mundus Cycling Cup would be likely held in February 15, so if anyone more wants to participate remember to submit your teams before that date.

For the Tour of Ardia please swap Maria Cairns out for Lina Lei. Lina is a domestique and would be in the youth category (I also suspect having done the calculation that she would be the youngest rider in the peloton)
