Illumic Shores Technological Institute (ISTI) have today cofirmed that they have reached a self appointed "milestone" in their pathway towards creating a nuclear fusion powerstation. While many others are progressing towards what could be described as a convetional fusion system ISTI have been working with what they call the "pistol shrimp" method. As most systems use lasers ISTI have removed the need for that by effectively creating a form of elctro-magnetic launcher which fires a projective at a pellet of fusion fuel. The impact creates a variety of shockwaves which help create energy. In theory once perfected the system will be smaller and have less physics risks. For the system to be viable the launch should happen from a distance that would see a significant increase in projectile velocity however so far an increase in speed is likely to damagae the electro-magnetic "gun" however in tests carried out this week the current operating has been significantly increased.
Dr. Klaus Ragner has been overseeing the project and explained, "Today we have increased the projectile range by a magnitude of ten. We've increased the range from 10mm to 10cm, its a great step forward. We think a distance of around 30cm will ensure that we can begin the next step of examining how this system can be turned from a showcase into a commercially viable system for electricity production."
