BACKGROUND

Founded in the fires of the 1904 Bai Dao Ge Ming Revolution, the Longdi Socialist Republic replaced the old Dragonaii Empire with a five-branched republic built upon the ideals of syndicalist socialism, detailing much political power to the various trade unions within its provinces. With the goal of building a society within the ideals of its founders, the republic constructed its democracy with welfare, democracy, and education in mind. The industry has been slowly dragged to modernization in the long years since but at the cost of economic growth and the environment. Now with the Market Socialist Party currently in power, it remains to be seen how the Republic fares in the modern setting of Mundus' politics.

FORMAL REQUEST TO THE DEMOCRATIC NATIONS OF MUNDUS

The SICR's previous government was the result of a war-torn nation reliant on the mercies of the powerful within the national leadership. My father did what he could, purging much of it during his own reign by cracking down harshly on crime and corruption. What follows now is my hope to reform the nation into a republic- I have however noticed that the SICR's model of a democratic society is inefficient and bureaucratic on it's own and as a result, I am inviting democratic nations of Mundus to send advisors to assist in recreation of what will be the foundations of the Dragonaii Republic of China.

The aim of the conference will be to achieve the following aims: (1) The creation of a new Legislative Chamber led by elected officials chosen by the local populace through a popular vote. (2) The writing of a national constitution to detail the rights of citizens and the basic laws of the nation. (3) Establishment of a functioning elected monarchy selection system. (4) Implement new political stances on international organizations.

Due to the unstable environment of the current political climate, all transport to the conference will be either by escorted by fighter aircraft or be by HSR lines extending from neighboring Quintelia or Kodumaa. Imperial troops will be present to ensure your safety during both trips.

Most Sincerely,

Jinxingguo von Nanjing of the Ming-Brandenburg Throne

Jinduming tiredly listened to the Electorate bicker as he watched from the royal balcony perched above the chamber’s entrance. The reporters’ booths were empty as always- they weren’t allowed in until the last ten minutes of the five-hour session.

He checked his watch. Five minutes to recess.

The legislators had been arguing since morning over a single measure- originally adding the Wilderjaern forces to the military for a service span of ten years instead- and it had seen countless revisions now, just an act to increase the Wilderjaegern service by a few months.

They'll throw it out soon, he thought to himself. He had half a mind to throw the law out right now, but the Electorate could always override him with a 2/3s vote, yet that could be overturned by the Imperial Supreme Court overruling them, and then the Electorate could overrule both of them-

He shut his eyes, sighing. His gut stabbed out in pain as he leaned back, causing him to lurch back forwards.

Grasping the already crinkled sheet of paper in his hands, he bent forward in his seat, gasping for breath as his servant hurried up to him, uncapping an army injector. A House Guard exposed his vein even as he struggled to sit upright, then gritted his teeth as he heard the quick hiss of the injector on his inner elbow.

As the pain gradually subsided, he became aware of the still-ongoing din below him, then President Herminstaat call recess.

He pulled himself up despite quiet urges from his servants and guards, and balanced his hands on the railing, letting the light of the chamber illuminate his full form for all below to see. He waited for their attention to catch his unusual pose, the noise eventually lowering to an uncomfortable silence.

Jinduming cleared his throat, taking a final glance from the paper and began to speak.

"I hope you are all well today. I have a situation to bring up. In recent weeks, my physicians have informed me that an unfortunate chemical residue from the Civil War in my gut will cause my death in an inconvenient amount of time. I have placed my succession in the hands of the Crown Prince. You all have many questions, but I have no opportunity to answer them. I have now realized too late that as I pushed the nation to reemergence that I left too many ends untied. The erratic actions of the IFC during the Sinsic and my own during the various other international issues have shown that what is needed is a reformation of the Imperial Administration at large. I will be taking measures as needed to correct this issue as well as the time allotted to me allows."

His vision swept the whole chamber, eyeing the shocked expressions of the Electorate.

"That is all."

He turned and left, headed for the Imperial Palace. He motioned to a servant. "Call the Crown Prince to my office immediately."

"Sorry I'm late, the royal train was delayed by the Electorate transports leaving-"

The 29-year old Crown Prince burst into the room to find his father seated with a bottle of baijiu before him, a glass full in hand. Jinxingguo strode to him, swiping the bottle off the table and setting it on the floor beside him.

"You're dying from liver failure and you're drinking alcohol?"

Jinduming managed a weak smile. "Might as well. Listen." He leaned forward, his expression hardening. "When I'm gone, you're the ruler. Do as you will- it's your nation now. That's what my father said before he passed. Do as you will. Just- just don't-"

He groaned, shaking with convulsions, causing the Crown Prince to catch him before he planted his face onto the desk. "-Don't let the nation burn down again. Dissolve the Electorate, form a dictatorship, welcome the democratics-, don't, just don't let another civil war tear the nation down."

Jinxingguo turned towards the doors. "Guards! Get a doctor! Now!"

He was pulled back to the desk as Jinduming yanked him close by the collar.

"Promise me. Please."

The Crown Prince blinked in surprise, replying, "I.. I will."

The Emperor-Admiral stared into his son's eyes a final time and nodded, allowing the doctors and guards behind them to check him over.

Flag of the Grand Dragonaii Empire of China, ("FICR")

Population at outbreak of war: 203 million

The war goes by many names. In politics, the Century Revolt is one common among the CSP, and the Great Tragedy finds great employment by the SWP. Those in the SWP call it the Dragoni Civil War. But as for those still alive when the battles were fought and rest of the populace, it is simply the War of Black Blood.

Historians have disagreed constantly for when the war ended, some incredibly optimistic sources ranging from the surrender of the first OCDP government in 1878 to the evacuation of OCDP troops to the coastal delta and Eastern Theater in 1958 and official sources marking the end to be at February 3, 1978, with the destruction and capture of the last stronghold and troops. It is universally agreed though that the war started on 1815, December 2.

In the early nineteenth century, the economy of the FICR was widely dependent on an agrarian economy of rice and potatoes, with tax collectors being members of the nobility. Around 76 percent of the population were farmers, 21 percent educated middle class, and 3 percent nobility. A recent series of bad harvests and blights had caused some worry to the farming population, but the aged dragoni tradition of stockpiling food for emergencies had prevented any major famines for the time.

Corruption was rife through the FICR's nobles, who along to controlling most of the political power in the national legislature, recurringly placed those ill-fit to lead in military, administrative, and civil roles, skyrocketing anger against the current Emperor-Regent Ming Xinhai for his inaction despite watching dozens of peaceful protesters being beaten by thugs hired by nobles during a peaceful student demonstration in 1803. (There is some evidence that the Emperor-Regent enjoyed "special privileges" in return for turning a blind eye to the growing deterioration of the nation, which would have explained the inordinate amount of luxury goods delivered directly to the Imperial Palace at the time.)

In 1807, the Great Famine occurred, bringing a man-made disaster that caused the emergency stockpiles to dwindle away by 1812, caused by the over-taxation of the local peasantry. Crops were taxed by the nobility who kept increasing quotas to add to their own wealth, and when those quotas failed to be met, water supplies were cut off and livestock seized as payment. This added resentment against the upper class combined with an especially early harsh summer that killed most farmers' crops and froze livestock to death. This culminated in the June Revolts, where 230,000 peasants in Gan'xi began to at first protest en masse to their local lords to reduce quotas, then openly revolted as their emergency food supplies were confiscated. The provincial nobility dispatched Lord General Guo Weiyi was sent to crush the rebellion but during the clash in the village of (now-abandoned) Linlukou, many imperial troops began to defect to the farmers' side, resulting in an even more chaotic battle.

Despite the eventual victory of imperial troops, the nobility was shaken to its core and demanded the Emperor-Regent do something, thus resulting in the Guanghai Massacre, where an entire town suspected of housing rebels was selected to be used as an example to the rest of the nation. Nearly seven thousand residents were made to march over the town bridge and were promptly shot or beheaded, their bodies falling over into the rapids below. The town was then forcibly resettled by political prisoners, where secret police kept a close eye on all inhabitants and executed those suspected of traitorous ideals at a whim. It was here where Meng Renming wrote the "Peasants' Rows," its ideas being used as the base rhetoric for the growing populist Crimson Banner Movement in 1814.

Instead of suppressing and instilling fear as the nobility and Throne had intended, the executions resulted in public outrage and increasing support from the middle class, who were beginning to feel the impact of the Famine on their trade. Impoverished peasants began to organize and refuse to pay, lynching tax collectors and terrorizing local officials. Other, wealthier and more educated radicals began forming political far-left groups based on the ideas of "Peasants' Rows," culminating in the 1814 Crimson Banner Movement. They began forming "rice unions," parties that collectivized harvests to sell together for an equally distributed profit. While the political alignments of these organizations ranged from anarchy to centralized top-down distribution systems, all shared the use of armed militias to both keep peace and drive government influence away, their member usually consisting of deserters from the imperial army proper. Clashes between militias and provincial armies often resulted in dozens of deaths and hundreds of wounded, usually from friendly fire.

At the same time, moderates made up of the educated middle class and certain parts of the peasantry formed the pro-democracy pact, which aimed to establish either a republic or constitutional monarchy in place of the horribly corrupt and ineffective Imperial administration

As the Great Famine worsened, so did the Emperor-Regent's appeal to the nobility. He was deposed in a coup late 1914 and replaced by the Just Council, an oligarchy of nobles. They were then replaced by the 23-year old Emperor-Successive Ming Huoxing and his loyalist Imperial House Guard, all in the span of a month. The new Emperor-Regent raced against time to stop the oncoming revolts and soften the blow of the Famine, but it was too little and too late. On December 2, disaffected military officers sympathetic towards the Crimson Banner Movement allied with officials and other military officers that were pro-democracy staged a coup, intending to place a temporary junta in charge of the nation. However, unexpected fierce resistance by the House Guard prevented the revolutionaries from capturing the Emperor-Regent, who was evacuated to first loyalist Blut-Himmel Stadt and then Eltenbacht, where Imperial supporters rallied and prepared to retake Nanjing.

The nobles quickly seized power as chaos unfolded, becoming warlords with varying alliances for or against each ideology. In Nanjing, the political situation quickly deteriorated as the moderates and Crimson Banners were unable to find common ground and burst into skirmishes along the streets of Nanjing, eventually resulting in a victory for the moderates. Meanwhile still, loyalist enclaves of now-exiled brigades began to make their way west, harassing both presumed warlord and Crimson Banners elements alike as they retreated towards friendly lines.

The war did not begin there by the chaotic dissolution of the nation, but it is considered the beginning of the end as it created the environment needed for the war's start by marking the same day the Imperial Army began mobilization. His Majesty would perish at his own hands a few hours later, leaving his younger brother to take his place as the Monarch of the Imperial Dragonaii. The moderates would seek an alliance and reconcile with the Emperor in the following days as Nanjing, only 17 miles from the marked front lines, was threatened by presumed Crimson invasion, creating the Dragonaii Imperial Coalition faction of the early war to rival the National Defense and Action Council of the Crimson Banners.

An ultimatum by militia leaders from the Crimson Banners was received on December 5 following the unsuccessful coup as violent clashes began to break out along the mess of a front line by settlement militias, often with bloody hand-to-hand and close-range combat, as army hardware was hard to come by and old muskets and shotguns appropriated from farms were used in place alongside dao and often kitchen knives strapped to the end of wooden or bamboo poles. It is believed that the message was transported by horseback to the gates of the capital, unescorted, by a young woman whose name purportedly was Min Xinhai- however, sources for this all refer to propaganda media by the OCDP, and is therefore largely held to be false by the major scholarly community.

The Lord President de facto at the time, Lord Elector Wu Qiangan was largely a puppet of the nobles, and as such was mostly powerless. Nevertheless, he attempted a secret peace negotiation with several Crimson leaders, including one Erlich Guo, who would later become the first Premier of the OCDP. The meeting's conclusion was dubious but resulted in an agreement to consider talks in the future, only for Wu Qiangan to be bludgeoned to death by a rioting mob two days later as he tried to reenter the capital.

Though the position of Lord President would change hands for dozens of times as competing factions fought for power within the Electorate, attempts for peace did not stop there. One of the generals of the then Imperial High Guard, An Xi, desperately attempted to convince the new Emperor-Admiral to acquiesce to some of the terms of the Crimson Banners' terms in their demands, including completely free reelection of the Electorate to give the Banners' representation by pro-peasantry nobles. However, the new monarch suspected the officer of treason after being urged by pro-divine-right-of-king eunuchs and had him promptly imprisoned.

The Imperial Army was officially fully mobilized by February 14, and the frontline militias were quickly supplemented by army officers from both sides by March 27. Negotiations broke down for good on May 3, when Imperial Army officers ordered an entire village shot after suspecting the population of espionage. Both sides figured a relatively quick and decisive war would follow, further encouraged after the brief siege, capture, and occupation of Nanjing by Banner forces on May 10.

President Feish,

It seems that the Royal Clysperi has contacted the SICR in need of support. They wish to use anti-Rokkenjiman sentiment to their advantage. Regardless, I shall meet with them, but I exercise the famous caution of my ancestors, and in such spirit, I have sent this in observance of our mutual interests. I have dispatched this along with a copy of the message sent from Pharoah Akasha. Review as you will, and send me your thoughts and opinions as need be, the sooner the better. And just so you should know, I plan to inform King Lapu as well.

Quote
Emperor-Admiral Jingduming von Nanjing;

I would first wish to take a moment to apologize for any sensibilities I may have offended through Clysperi support for Sinsu in OPEN, as well as my dismissal of the SICR as a member. The later wasn't for anything Clysperis holds against the SICR, but the protection of non-artificial petroleum products in the global market. Furthermore, my support for Sinsu beyond their OPEN membership, has been heavily curtailed due to their warm and friendly relations with a power we both, rightly, view as a threat to global peace and stability: the First Empire of Rokkenjima.

It's been pleasing and reassuring to see the SICR remain steadfast against the overtures of the First Empire, and you are wise not to trust them. One only need to look to the sanctions they've imposed upon Clysperis and Tamora for recognizing the Theocracy of Kaitaine, as well as the label of "state sponsors of terrorism" for recognizing the plight of the Theocracy against the Bastards of Stalin. Of course, the SICR as well knows first-hand the lengths which the First Empire will go in inserting itself into the sovereign rights of a nation to conduct business and foreign policy under its own terms, the chains of which remain upon the SICR to some extent thanks to the efforts of the Ardian Assembly.

As you may know I have been outspoken against the corrosive influence of certain nations, such as the First Empire, and their web of treaties and international standards against the sovereignty of nations. If you are a man who shares my concerns as I believe you are, we may have an opportunity to work together to ensure that the era of nations handing their sovereignty over to the privileged few is brought to a close. Clysperis and Tamora on one side of the world, the SICR on the other, both united in vision and purpose could become a force which these few nations would find more than a handful to contend with. It will take time, effort and courage but the more nations we have working toward a future which sees power less concentrated will bring the date of that realization much closer.

Your New Derusmian allies supporting the rebels in our lands are horribly misinformed, misguided and at the end of the day, further the cause of Rokkenjima in supporting them. I can only hope their support is not reflective of the SICR's position, and would simply request that should New Derusmia put forth a proposal for SANE to involve itself in this conflict such a move would be cautioned against as unwise and, ultimately, smothered before it could be implemented. The rebels could serve no use to New Derusmia nor SANE if they were to win. My Kingdom, however, offers a path to a future which would see all of our nations benefit from a more level playing field and a new international order which preserves the sovereignty of our nations from the overreach of the imperialists.

I would wish to speak with you, or a representative of your government should you be unable to speak with me personally, to establish a mutually beneficial relationship between our nations and peoples. I shall be looking forward to your reply.

Akasha Di-‘nh-mi-Re, Sovereign of Sovereigns, Divine of Appearance, Beloved of Amun, Chosen of Ra, Lord of the Three Lands, Ruler of Justice like Ra, High Priest of Every Temple, the Eye of Horus, Satisfied is the heart of Ra.

Best wishes and may your spirit remain steadfast,

Emperor-Admiral Jinduming von Nanjing

Vignettes / Behind These Blast Doors

Bureau of Internal Security Central Headquarters, Upper Nanjing, Central Command Complex

The building itself was generously large from the outside, ten stories tall, its exterior covered in balconies and colorful decorations. One might even have considered it to be a five-star hotel from a glance. Trees surrounded the pagoda-like structure, hiding the security buildings that scattered the complex, quartered by limestone roads and decorative gardens watched over by stone lions. Upon the first floor's entry was a great seal, the BIS insignia engraved and colored in full upon the wall, a reception desk before it.

With each floor however, every layer of the SICR was revealed, from Tourism and Foreign Assistance at the tenth floor, and from the second-level basement downwards - Chemical Warfare, Territorial Denial, Censorship, Domestic Special Forces, and the infamous Imperial Sword.

Every level was guarded by soldiers in black uniforms, the obsidian star enblazoned upon the badges pinned to their helmets, gloved hands firmly gripping bullpup rifles as they motionlessly stood sentry at every door.

No corner had less than two cameras, and every ten paces was another blast door. The stark glare of LED bulbs and screened monitors filled each command center, personnel manning the blinking consoles to keep the eyes and ears of the Imperial Republic funtioning.

Within the Action Room of Domestic Special Forces, two men in starkly different uniforms discoursed in low voices, the massive table before them covered in files and tablets.

"But are we sure? Could it have been a Rokkenjiman agent?"

The one dressed in the coal-black military gear shook his head.

"Impossible. Rokkenjimans do not speak ten years worth of traditional dragonaii poetry when we have emerged in hardly one. I would say a cultist or another one of those lunatic reporters who keep trying to 'find out the truth'. In any case, we questioned him a good bit and sent him on his way. By today's news, I take it a note was forwarded to the media?"

His suited counterpart sighed in relief.

"Indeed. So he knows nothing then? You interrogated him thorougly?"

"Nothing. At best, probably just test rockets for the space program."

The suiter's fingers found a thick file in the mountain of papers, carefully annotated by the Examination Center.

"Good, good. Well, how about the individuals who tried to defect to Rokkenjima?"

"Oh, taken care of. We incinerated them and their information the spot. Bloody fools, thinking that they could travel to Rokkenjima by civilian plane. Agents had them directed to the Special Action area of the airport and shot them in the head before they could run."

The agent took the file from his counterpart, flipping hurriedly until suddenly stopping at an attached thumb drive, plugging it into one of the computer tablets.

"They wrote a manifesto that they were going to present to the public. Talks about how the Imperial Throne is oppressive and all other forms of treason. Even called for foreign armed intervention to throw the Emperor-Admiral out. It's a pity, really. Fresh out of university and the first thing they try to do is go stir up trouble. Rokkenjima's not the only country they wanted an audience with. They wanted one with EM, Lodja, SANE, you name it."

The suiter did not look up from examining the manifesto.

"Never mind that. Do they have any other accomplices?"

"Being dealt with now, I believe. We tracked them to an apartment in Blut-Himmel Stadt. An operation is currently underway."

New Sun Residential Apartments, Lower Blut-Himmel Stadt

The agent carefully made his way to the apartment, his baggy clothes covering the tactical vest. He glanced quickly at the mailboxes to ensure he was at the right place, then punched in the code on the keypad, a sharp click echoing through the interior as the door swung inwards. A pair of plainclothes Domestic Special Forces police officers followed closely behind.

Making his way up the stairs, he reached number 674, Huishanlu. He discarded the parka, and pulled the pistol from his vest. The two plainclothes policemen behind him pulled out silenced submachineguns.

The sounds of safeties being switched off resounded through the staircase, but the agent and policemen alike knew the walls and doors were too thick for anyone to hear. A Halligan bar was fixed to the door and within a moment, the door was bashed open.

There was no "Police, open up!" or "Put your hands up!", only the sharp clicks of suppressed guns and the short exhales of the suppressors as the officers shot every person inside dead, regardless of whether or not they put up a fight.

As one of the bedrooms was forced open, a young woman on the other end reached for the nightstand drawer, her hand reaching short by just a few millimeters as the agent shot her legs.

She forced herself to turn over, tears streaming down in pain as she confronted the agent as he searched the drawer, finding an empty gun.

"Why are you shooting us? We only wanted a democracy!"

The officer's blank face turned towards her, dropping the empty gun on the floor.

"I'm sorry ma'am. It's treason."

A brass casing, still smoking, fell to the floor, a body resting beside it.

The motto of the BIS is not "To Serve and Protect". It is "Protect By Any Means".

Economics and Industry / Cobalt Ampithere Shipbuilding GLC (CASC)

(Pretend I've put a cool logo here already)

Cobalt Ampithere Shipbuilding GLC, is the government-owned company responsible for the development of dragonaii naval vessels, dominantly the Wolf Class Attack Submarine and various support/auxiliary vessels. Most, if not all, are available to SANE.

A merger of Blut-Himmel Shipyards, Mingxing Shipyards, Hessenburg Naval Engineering, and Serpent Naval Design, it was consolidated in 1970 to accommodate the highly classified Sea Serpent Project, a military project to design a nuclear-fueled far-range attack submarine to serve as the most advanced and capable force of the SICRDN. The result of that project, the Sea Serpent Mk. I was a success and led to the Sea Serpent Mk. IV, the current and only nuclear submarine design in the SICR's arsenal. Following the Open Gate Policy in 2018, it was decided that the company should make its commercial civilian craft division available to the rest of Mundus.

Currently headed by CEO Klaus Hessenburg, Cobalt Ampithere Shipbuilding GLC's services are open to all approved by SANE and the Imperial Administration, save all civilian vessels. Customers must not be at war with, embargoed by, or have a relationship level more severe than the normal "suspicious" designation with the SICR.

To President Teng Jia of the Federal Republic of Sinsu

I am sure by now you have heard of the response from the SICR. or at the very least noticed a large number of munitions raining down at the border. Your federal republic has found itself to reemerge from isolationism at a very inopportune time, I'm afraid. But I will get to the point.

Let me be frank and direct: I am tired of this. I am tired of this pointless bickering over the Southern Territory, the area where the Federal Republic of Sinsu resides. We have fought for nearly have a century, and the only change that has occurred is an ever-changing list of those killed and new issues of spiteful opinions on the radio.

We have killed and died at each other's hands, and now I think it is time for both of our nations to drop the rifle. What's lost is lost, and even if that means the loss of the Southern Territories, so be it.

I do not expect you to come personally, in fact, I hardly expect any response at all. But should you too find that the Sinsic and Dragoni peoples should at least come to peace, then I will arrange for you to meet me near the border, at Gaotsunbao.

From one Chinese to another, I beg of you. Please.

Most Sincerely,

Max Herminstaat, Thirty-First President of the Second Imperial Chinese Republic

History / Blue Dawn (1988-1997) AKA The Coup of 1992 - Recent History
« on: June 10, 2019, 07:45:36 PM »
In April 1988, the then Emperor-Admiral Jinlinhui made several deals with the cartels and gangs that controlled the neighborhoods of China's major city, using his emergency powers to introduce the "Neighborhood Watch Act", which gave organized crime the authority of government agents, in exchange for their services and a part of their income, being nicknamed by the populace as the "Lord of the Vultures." Protests by the Imperial Electorate were met with brutal suppression, disappearances and eventually disbanded entirely, dissidents were sent to exile in the Altreich Mountains, and life became so difficult for dragonaii that most began to use a mixture of black marketing, prostitution, and gang involvement to obtain food. The Librarius was puppeted by the mafias controlling Nanjing, various godfathers/mothers appointing themselves as Curators to appease the population. The Drachenwachters and wilderjaegern immediately went into hiding as the gangs and crime lords demanded their services, often launching attacks to weaken gang command structures.

In this time, Prince Regent of the Ming Line, Jin Du Ming, and his wife, the Empress-Regent of the Brandenburg Line, Ming Yue Jin, were placed under house arrest by the Imperial Marine-Guard and Emperor Jinlinhui as to prevent interference with his authority. As only one approved by the Curatoria Assembly could ascend the throne, Emperor-Admiral Jinlinhui planned to have one of his "adopted sons", the Black Constellation mafia leader, Huoginduo, replace Jinduming as to reward his loyalty to Jinlinhui. With a new heir installed, the Emperor-Admiral could have his original heirs executed without violating the Imperial Constitution.

However, Drachenwachter Talons of Klaniau and Etervia, under Drachenwachter-Bibliotheca Yueguo Ling, along with members of the Imperial Marine-Guard loyal to the original heirs to the throne succeeded in rescuing and evacuating the heirs out of Nanjing by helicopter. Hidden in the War-Atheneum of the Librarius in Altreich alongside loyal members of the Curatoria Assembly, Prince-Regent Jinduming, and Empress-Regent Mingyuejin planned the overthrow of Jinduming's father.

With the help of loyalist dragonaii agents, the populace learned of the original Imperial Heirs' survival and rallied to their banner, many of the exiled and hiding wilderjaegern joining the armed force that Mingyuejin had assembled. In December 1992, during a fierce blizzard, Jinduming and his force stormed the Imperial Palace.

Upon finding Huoginduo in his bedroom with [REDACTED], Jinduming drew his personal sword, the swordbreaker-jian Blue Dawn, and killed the mafia leader instantly by smashing his ribs in and practically bursting several organs, creating a bloody mess.

He proceeded to the throne room, where the Emperor-Admiral had drawn his own jian, and instead of challenging him to a duel, downright drew his pistol and shot the Emperor-Admiral's limbs, disarming and immobilizing him, then proceeded to cut off the despot's head with his own jian.

Upon beheading the former Emperor-Admiral, Jinduming reportedly crowed, "The traitor Emperor is dead, bless the Dragons!", to which the soldiers around him cried out, "The tyrant is dead, Long Live the New Emperor!"

Upon returning to the War-Atheneum, however, he found that the Formal-Empress had died during childbirth, causing him to despair and fall into a depression for next three years, and despite being crowned, he ordered his coronation to have his Empress' jade qiang embedded in the back of his throne. His companion, the Drachenwachter [REDACTED], however, succeeded in consoling him and convincing him to focus on rebuilding the nation.

Thus the last few years of the Imperial Republic's history have been filled with the purging of corruption and crime from the streets, while the jian of the despot now rests in the office of the Emperor-Admiral, still covered with his blood.

Miexue lifted the rifle back up to his shoulder, taking aim on the shadow moving around behind the window. The storm briefly illuminated the police station with a flash of lightning.

He positioned his shot carefully, waiting for the roar of thunder again. The shadow moved away.

He waited patiently for its return.

As a Wilderjaeger, his duty had been to hunt game for his family.

As a Drachenwachter, his duty was to fulfill the destiny that the Dragons’ gave him.

The shadow came into full view again, a smoking cigarette in hand.

Two roars came at that moment, a thunderbolt striking the lightning rod, a window shattering as body fell to the floor.

His blood stained the window, visible from here.

Miexue had no time to admire his work. He slung the rifle onto his back and ran to the front door of the police station, crouching behind a police cruiser.

The pouring rain splashed over his hood, spilling onto the miniature river below. He removed a knife from the sheath on his chest, placing it underneath the folds of his cloak to hide his existence.

An officer burst out of the station in panic, tearing towards the cruiser that Miexue hid behind. His hand found the door handle, flailed, then went limp as the Drachtenwachter removed the knife from his throat.

Looking around to make sure no one was out, the Drachenwachter sheathed his knife, now clean from the pouring rain. He picked up the body, stepping into the reeds beside the road to hide him.

Retrieving a needle and spool of thread, he threaded a few words upon the shirt of the officer. His body was bent over the corpse, shielding it as he did his work. As he finished, he covered the threading with the jacket of the officer. He lifted the body with both hands, placing it at the front door of the station, crossing the palms over the stomach.

He quietly turned and made his way back into the trees. The rain would wash away his tracks, and had left no evidence to betray himself.

Atheneum Echter-Heiss, Altreich Provinz, SICR

Two men sat listening to the radio, one pouring the other a cup of tea.

...the corpses of two police officers in the Gongxue district of Eltembacht were found dead today, one apparently shot through the window(Badge 455), the other with his head stabbed through his throat (Badge 1332). Both were pronounced dead on discovery. Furthermore, a message constructed from threads sewn onto the latter’s shirt have been found, saying, “455-rapist. 1332-corrupt. The Dragons Watch.” An inquiry to the Librarius was denied. An investigation is ongoing.

The elder of the two chuckled, pushing the cup towards the younger, his head still listening to the radio.

“Well done Miexue. You do well fulfilling Klaniau’s wishes.”

“My thanks, Bibliotheca,” Miexue replied, accepting the cup with a nod. “I am glad that balance has been given to the victims’ families.”

“Indeed. To the Dragons.”

The Bibliotheca raised a cup of his own.

Miexue smiled, raising his in response.

“To The Dragons.”

(OOC: I intend this to be a sort of IC discussion on international politics and whatnot from citizens' point of view while discussing literary concepts like fantasy genres and so forth that probably would be found in The Other World. Feel free to send writers of your own, do what you will.)

Heinz Shibi lounged in the discourse floors' many parlors, his right hand holding a cup of tea. Mei Jihua sat across from him, her prosthetic hand holding down a sheet of paper as she sketched. Heinz watched her draw, each stroke slowly building up the resemblance to the Eltenbacht Librarius Atheneum, part of it in ruins. Jihua sat back with a satisfied grin, looking over her drawing with pride. Heinz sat up, signing in IDSL[1] "Nicely done. Put in people maybe?" Jihua laughed and signed back, "No. This is the one where everyone dies."
"I see. Where are the animals?"
"I'll draw them in soon enough."
Jihua leaned back over her sketch, then quickly signed, "What will you write next?"
Heinz raised an eyebrow. "You mean after With Friends of Tungsten Wills?", then proceeded to cackle as he realized the title formed a swear word in IDSL. Jihua chuckled, shaking her head.
"Joke aside, I plan to do one on a scenario where Rokkenjima invades."
"Rokkenjima? The world power that was on our backs for freeing our new cousins?"
"That's the one."
Nodding, Jihua set her pencil down and relaxed against the couch.
"Will you put in the SAPS? That seems like a fun concept. Shooting missiles with missiles."
"Probably. do you think any foreigners will attend?"
Jihua shrugged.

The two waited for any foreigners to show up in the discourse floors, chatting and drinking tea for the rest of the while.

(note: Any foreign writers will be directed to the discourse floor. They will be given an identification badge showing what genre they focus in.)

Economics and Industry / Weinuan Defensive Fabrication
« on: May 02, 2019, 05:21:48 PM »
(OOC: I sort of based this off EMAC’s design, sorry Dave.)

Weinuan Defensive Fabrication (WDF) is a military-inclined company that produces high-quality defensive packages for military customers, including everything from countermeasures to composite and reactive armor. Most are reserved for members of SANE; however, there are some packages available for purchase by other customers.

Only partially controlled by the Imperial Private Industry Office, the company is mostly independent. However, due to the nature of Imperial Law, they must still abide by certain laws from the Imperial Throne and Electorate. WDF Central Headquarters is located in Blut-Himmel Stadt, near its major production centers.

The company began in 1961, after Wernher Weinuan, a civilian-military architect, became involved in the special armor division of the Imperial military. He went on to found his own company following a Commercial License Comission by the Imperial Armed Forces to create new armor kits for the SICRNA and SICRMG. The Imperial military has since then purchased order after order to increase the survivability of its military vehicles.

The company does will currently sell to any nation that is willing to pay, though they must not be at war or embargoed by SANE. The current CEO is Jing Weinuan.

Diplomacy and Events / To Stand In Republican Union
« on: April 08, 2019, 03:27:44 PM »

President Feish,

In light of recent regional developments, it seems that we border on war with Rokkenjima. Whether or not the tension escalates to such a drastic level remains to be seen, though I believe it is advisable to formally establish diplomatic relations, military cooperation, and hopefully even a trade agreement. It is with this goal in mind that I wish to invite you or a representative to the Imperial Capital of Nanjing to discuss these topics.

I await your response earnestly.
Respectfully Yours,
Emperor-Admiral Jinduming von Nanjing, House of Ming-Brandenburg

Official Statement from the Imperial Throne

Dragonaii of the Imperial Republic,
Only a few hours ago the nation of Rokkenjima placed sanctions upon the Imperial Republic, criticizing our method of liberty that Klaniau has bestowed upon our new brothers and sisters, these former slaves of Tamora. They claim it to be for the preservation of the peace, and for the protection of the continent. But we know this to be false. We welcome these new brethren, and we seek to destroy all slavery within our borders. Rokkenjima may accuse us as slavers, but as they liberate with their tiresome bureaucracy, we shall liberate subtly, in ways that shall not wake a lion. In both, we oppose slavery, our method simply different.

We, non-confrontationists that we are, have no quarrel with Rokkenjima. But we have no choice, for they hold quarrel with us and the nations of South Ardia. For years Rokkenjima has strived to hold control over Ardia, with the disastrous trans-Ardia railroad being its zenith. Yet they seek to encroach upon the development of the Southern Line, the railroad that will boost all nations of South Ardia. They wish to destroy what new world we seek to construct from the ruins of our First Imperial Republic and seek the path that they have forged for themselves.

Faneris is a cruel mistress, but I see the path that she has emblazoned for us. We shall take upon this endeavor to build the Southern Line no matter what, even if we must oil the wheels of the trains with our blood.

May Etervia give us the time, Faneris the light, and Klaniau the judgment to resist the influence of Rokkenjima.

Diplomacy and Events / Between the Firing Squad and Tamoran Aims

2:43 A.M. Standard Imperial Time
Imperial Bureau of Internal Security Main Headquarters, Upper Nanjing
“Floor 17” -  Counterespionage

The analyst shuffled through a heap of papers and folders on his desk, meticulously taking careful notes on what he was finding with the terminal before him, his eyebrows furrowed in concentration. He ran through a map tacked to the wall facing him, his finger eventually landing on Tamora. He began pecking at the keys, ending by tapping on a small red key to the edge of the board. The printer behind him hummed to life, spitting out an entire folder’s worth of documents. The analyst stuffed the papers into a crimson folder, and after inking the rubber bottom, stamped the front of the thick folder.

He quickly stepped out of his cubicle and ran to the door, throwing it open and sprinting into the atrium of military officers, field agents, soldiers, and other BIS personnel.

Zigzagging between individuals, he made his way up the stairs, to the Minister of Internal Security’s office. The two guards saw the folder and its large stamp and immediately banged on the door.
The analyst caught up and caught his breath.

“Minister! I have an urgent report for you!”

There was a short response from inside.

“How urgent?”

“Sir, it is a case of utmost national security! An emergency!”

“Come in!”

The door unlatched and the analyst dashed in, quickly saying as he handed the folder to the Minister,

“I have run the evidence over at least a dozen times now, and all the trails have led to Tamora.”

“I see. Thank you, you may see yourself out.”

The analyst saluted him, and turned about-face, leaving the office.
The Minister watched him leave, and just as the door latched, reached for the phone and immediately dialed for the Emperor-Admiral and President.

The Emperor wore his beige zhongshan suit, fiddling with the Imperial pin on his lapel as he and President Herminstaat listened intently to the Minister read the report. The President's face was white with anxiety, while the Emperor stared partly in horror, partly in fury.

The President suddenly leaned towards the Minister, inquiring, "Can you send an agent to negotiate?"

"Yes, your Presidency."

He hit a buzzer on the desk, then leaned back.

The door clicked open, a young man wearing the field agent uniform quickly bowing to the Emperor, then swiftly snapping to attention.

"This is Field Agent Wess Yu, Special Communications. He has connections that should allow him to contact the Tamorans"

The Emperor nodded towards the man, saying,

"Remember Agent, time is of the essence. It is critical that we secure these cultists, even if Special Officer Obern says otherwise."

Saluting, Wess replied, "Understood. Do I have permission to kill?"

"Under normal circumstances, no. But in this case, you may neutralize the targets if necessary. Do not touch the Tamorans though, we cannot risk an international incident."

"Of course."

Wess immediately strode out the door, clicking it shut as he did.

"And President, Minister? Not a word leaves this room. We do not need to add oil to this fire, especially after my father's reign."

Two "Yes, Your Imperial Majesty" were his answer.

1:20 P.M. Local Time
Mojebbe, Zimalia

Wess waited in anticipation for the Tamoran representative to arrive. He had arrived by submarine, unannounced, as to reduce the trail he left behind. Another Agent had already acquired the evidence and data to explain his appearance in Zimalia, the other Agent having swapped places with him when he arrived. He gripped his coffee, - a distasteful liquid, he thought, - and proceeded to continue waiting.

To Princess Elizabeth II of House Gough,

I believe it is with both of our nations' interests to re-establish formal relations for not only the practical establishment of trade but as a way to discuss the state of the Chinese population within Krimeon. These diplomatic, cultural, and economic ties have, of course, been cut off since the War of Black Blood. It would be my pleasure to host a meeting in our capital of Nanjing to further discuss the topic. If you should accept, I shall have several military aircraft escort you to the capital, as we happen to be in the middle of monsoon season, and we will have to ensure your safety. The president and I await your response, and, should you accept, your timely arrival in Nanjing. Feel free to bring accompaniment, if you wish.

With sincere respect,

Emperor-Admiral Jingduming von Nanjing

/2:01AM, 17/1976/Paul:
/Right, so WJ-34N and I have made repeated trips to the labor camp in the last couple of days. We've managed to arm at least a dozen inmates and finally convinced a pretty decent number to assist in the escape. We’ve got the shelters ready to go as soon as they’re out, and I've arranged for transport by helicopter. There are about two hundred, and the three helicopters have can carry about twenty each, so... we'll make about ten trips back and forth to get everyone. I asked if we could get air screening, but the military needs every plane to bomb the OC bases, so we’ll have to make do.
/WJ-34N:
/Perhaps we should mention the conditions of the camp?
/Paul:
/The camp conditions...oh… oh god…
/WJ-34N:
/It’s alright if you want me to explain.
/Paul:
/No…no, it’s fine. I’ll… I’ll manage.
/(movement, camera is audibly moved closer to speakers)
/The conditions… they’re horrible. I don’t think there is another way to describe them. The inmates work about thirteen hours a day and get about 5,000 calories per meal, if a soupy gruel with a potato can be considered a meal. If they even get one. They make everyone work but the children. The children are held hostage and placed at gunpoint to convince the adults to work. And…
/(choked sob)
/WJ-34N:
/Its ok, I’ll do it.
/Paul:
/No, its fine. They shoot the children and their parents when the parents get exhausted. There’s even this one sadistic bastard of a guard who purposely makes them work themselves weak, then uses that as an excuse to murder them. The only good thing that has come out of this madness of a camp is that we have two, maybe three guards who still possess humanity. They’ve been trying to smuggle the children out, and when we made contact, they begged us to rescue the inmates as soon as possible. I need more troops to break them free, and I need them before someone dies again.

The Other World / The Last Flight

Log of The Last Mountain Emperor-Admiral, 2045, found 2435

[Log start]

They once said that the world would end in flames. That we would perish from the fire of nuclear war and our bodies frozen by the ensuing winter, washed and disintegrated from the rising seas. Others said it was nonsense, and continued their incessant bickering. And yet, despite the warnings, they built arsenals of death, thermonuclear missiles, virulent superbugs, great armies.

They achieved nothing.

I wanted only the best for my people. I wanted them to survive. Our bunkers would not protect us, nor our interceptor missile system. I wanted to save them. I -

*Choked Sob*

They - They came and massacred us. Those who had once been peaceful, those who had been civil, kind, friendly, - they turned on us for resources. They killed so many. So, so, many. Our soldiers fought valiantly, for they gave us time to make our escape.  Those who survived the nuclear fire made it to Blut Himmel Stadt. Our capital and cities fell to the bombs, but the Imperial House Guard refused to evacuate. They -

*Shakily sobs, wheezing is heard.*

They detonated the Imperial Sword. A massive radiological superweapon, one meant to kill all of the Oriental Commune if Nanjing should fall, was unleashed. It killed both them and great numbers of enemies and made an impenetrable wall of irradiated clouds that prevented entry into the surviving provinces.

*Emperor pauses for a moment, shaky breathing is audible*

I wanted them - the survivors - to live. I had a massive project built. Three massive aircraft, our best minds to design and build it. It was made to use cold fusion as a source of fuel. The Heavenarks were eight-engined, built to stay in the air for as long as needed. Hangars bays to scavenge supplies and resources, hydroponics for food, medical bays, libraries, everything we needed. A massive airfield was cleared with the manpower available. We named them after the Dragons: Faneris, Etervia, and Klaniau, respectively.

Such irony, for we all doubted the capability of the aircraft. Nevertheless, we placed our hope within the vehicles and constructed them. Defenses were built, the capacity of each aircraft made to encompass a rough twenty-five thousand people. they were loaded with the knowledge and tech of our history. When we finished the first ones we launched them almost immediately, each with healthy balance of all needed personnel. The others followed soon after until the last was completed.

The last one launched yesterday. i chose to stay behind. As the Last Emperor of the Mountains, of the Imperial Republic, it is my duty to remain with the nation to the bitter end. My heir regent departed on the third aircraft. He will make a good emperor. I am old, and no longer of use to the Imperial Republic.

to whoever finds this, I hope that the people and knowledge of the Imperial Republic have survived and that we now exist in a prosperous state reminiscent of the past.

For Family, Knowledge, and Emperor.

For... For all that we once stood for, and all that we shall become.

Farewell.

Vignettes / Legend of the Kaiserdrachen-9
« on: October 23, 2018, 07:55:04 PM »
(OOC: This vignette is a popular (historical) legend among the Imperial Republic, which is why I put it in the vignette section, so its feasibility as to actually exist remains to be seen. I haven’t been on discord for the last couple of days, as my phone is down, so when I do actually get the bloody thing working again I'll talk with DaveIronSide. Otherwise, this is just an unconfirmed myth. Sorry!)

Those old enough to remember the War of Black Blood will tell many stories, including that of the Ai'erding monster, forged from the sludge of chemicals and unholy sciences, the gunships Ünterbastion, and the Lotus Fleet. But there is one story they tell again and again, with such emphasis and passion that it must surely not be merely a legend. The story they tell is that of the Order of the Emperor's Dragons. There are even a few grizzled veterans who claim to have seen them, their telltale cloaks flapping in the wind as they descended from above, their weapons hanging from their harnesses, their helmets bearing the colorful symbol of the Order.

In essence, they were the Imperial Republic's most elite force, above even the Imperial Marine-Guard. They were heros of the highest order, ever-vigilant and revered as as the China's best.

They were the paratroopers of the Kaiserdrachen Nine.
And these are their stories.

OFFICIAL COMMUNIQUE OF THE SECOND REPUBLIC

Warmest greetings to His Majesty King Ferdinand "Lapu" Adartse, King of the Empire of Quintelia:
It has come to our attention that we, as neighboring nations, should do well to organize the relationships of our current borderlines. We would be honored for you come to Nanjing to hold talks with President Herminstaat and I, or if you are not available, an ambassador or representative would be equally welcome. If you agree to our offer, please enter the Imperial Republic by air, as there is a massive lack of infrastructure leading into the Imperial Republic in the west. The rest of your journey into the Imperial Republic has been arranged by the Foreign Relations Commision.

With most sincere apologies, and with great respect,
Jingduming von Nanjing
Emperor-Admiral of The Second Imperial Chinese Republic

CULT UNDER INVESTIGATION

There has been recently been a massive controversy surrounding the Cult of Draves, a small organization of extreme worshippers of some sort of mutated creature, likely a result of physical contact with some forgotten stockpile of chemical weapons from the fall of the Oriental Commune during the War of Black Blood. They have been reported by terrace farmers in the Heisen-Draumer region to be attempting to pour some sort of unidentified substance into the water supply of several villages, resulting in reports being sent to the Imperial Electorate, who have responded by deploying several regiments of Nationalist Army soldiers into the region. Tests have shown the substance to contain a strain of virus that was a known biological weapon from the War of the Black Blood, fielded by the Oriental Commune as a means of killing off the food supply of the Imperial Republic, though this version shows traces of radiation and deliberate RNA tampering, changing the base DNA of the whoever consumes the contaminated substance. The cultists are currently under house arrest within their mountain monastery, though their fate remains to be seen by the Imperial Electorate and the residents of the villages. The Imperial Medical Commision is currently investigating the sludge's containment and removal.

BACKGROUND

The Second Imperial Chinese Republic is a mountainous, densely forested nation, formed around the core imperial mountain capital of Nanking,  built into a great mouth of an ancient dormant volcano. Formed from the bloodied rags of the First Republic's bloody struggle with the pragmatic and brutal Oriental Commune, the Second Republic swore to never tolerate communist extremists of any kind and to do a greater service of caring for its subjects.  Ports were built into the Imperial Republic's rocky coast out of semi-flooded caves and high outcroppings with very modern military fortifications built into the stone. The slow rise in the Republic's economy is mostly due to the construction of massive underground military defensive infrastructure, such as great tunnels and trains built to transport the munitions of the nation's mostly artillery-based military.

The Other World / Mortal Engines RP - The Pursuit.
« on: September 25, 2018, 04:54:35 PM »
The 2nd Chinese Republic roared to life, its massive Jing-Huang Type III engines buzzing with life, slowly moving the Nation-Cities forward. The mining rigs that had been so furiously drilling away the night before now slowly were raised up and back into their bays. Onboard its various tiers, workers, engineers, and scientists alike rushed to and fro checking diagnostics and readying systems. The 2nd Republic's two gargantuan 38-in Kruppen-Tai’er cannons were oiled, their coolers watered, the shells readied. Tier Nanjing, the Capital and command tier, located in the 2nd Republic's upper central area, was already bustling with the morning activities of the officers and crew, who had plotted an extensive course the night before and had set the 2nd Republic to head out earlier than usual. Though even at this early hour, the markets of the Trade tiers, the outer armoured belt of the 2nd Republic, were already open and bustling with the tradesmen of foreign cities. Unlike most Tracked Nations, the 2nd Republic did not possess a yawning jaw to snap up smaller cities for sustenance. Instead, it relied on its innate ability to actually mine resources from the earth, using great steam pumps that forced resources to the surface, where they could be mined. Granted, this meant that their entire ability to scavenge was severely decreased, but it did mean they possessed an absolute source of resources, while other nations relied entirely upon predatory pursuits. Because of such a threat of being pursued by a larger nation, the 2nd Republic possessed its incredibly powerful engines and an equally powerful compliment of guns to duel and and fight off predator nations. In addition, its 20 airship-strong Imperial Service Fleet guarded the nation from the skies, consisting of one dreadnought, five cruisers, seven frigates, and seven destroyers. The lower less-essential tiers were guarded from boarders by the Nationalist Armed Forces, and the critical sections, such as the capital, engines, research labs, and hospitals were guarded by the elite Imperial Marine-Guard Corps.

The city had begun its trek at first light, and now was traveling through a particularly rugged mountainous area when they happened upon a thick bog, fogged by toxic chemicals and gases. Upon first sight the Head Helmsman thought to circumnavigate it, but the Scientific Corps insisted on collecting what information they could from it, so accompanied by a frigate, a science vessel was dispatched to examine the bog. Upon analysis, the astounded research team found a small deposit of tungsten and raw bauxite, incredibly hard-to-find minerals, with all the tungsten being used to produce armor-belt-piercing rounds, armor, and gun barrels, while bauxite was even rarer to acquire, and was refined with skeins of gold to create a high energy-superconducting material that formed the core of Tesla Cores, incredibly powerful energy sources that were incredibly rare and sought after. The 2nd Republic rolled to a halt, armored shutters opening to reveal mining attachments and rigs, and steam pumps being drawn out from the depths of the great steel behemoth, plunging into the murky but shallow depths of the toxic bog, drilling, pumping and collecting the valuable cache of metals.

No less than seven miles away, the militant Nation-Cities of Cassalvae slowly rolled forward, stalking the 2nd Republic, following its tracks. Its scout airships had reported the 2nd Republic's halt to mine the bog to Cassalvae's Lord Halvaers. The Lord was exuberant at his chance to strike and snap up such a technologically unique Nation-Cities. He ran up and down the bridge, waving his arms and shouting and yelling excitedly.
"Put the engines to full power! Ready the guns! Ready the airships! Ready the jaws! Ready.....ready the marines and the boarders!"
Meanwhile, the local citizens of Cassalvae were already waving crowbars and tool-kits, jubilant to claim yet another unsuspecting prey into the gullets of the Nation-Cities. The Cassalvaeian airships were already headed towards the 2nd Republic, their gondolas loaded with bombs, boarders, and rockets.
The element of surprise was lost the moment one of the 2nd Republic's destroyers floated over a mountain and spotted the attackers.

Onboard the Lieutenant Wolff, Captain Hans von Staatenmacht was screaming orders at the top of his lungs, his hands on the helm, furiously trying to turn the airship to present its port side.
“Arm the torpedos and start shooting already! They are almost upon us! Verdammit, launch the rocket pods!"
The Lieutenant Wolff's six 20mm port auto-cannons began spraying a storm of heavy cordite-tipped rounds, the rocket pods hissing as they released their load of high explosive into the cloud of enemy airships. There was a hiss-chunk as the torpedos left their tubes, the dozen rather sizeable large munitions headed for the slower and less maneuverable enemy heavy cruisers. Instead of looking to confirm any kills, Captain Saatenmacht, a veteran airman, was far more concerned about getting his ship out in one piece.

"Activate the afterburners!"

The Lieutenant Wolff threw its back towards the enemy, about to fire its engines' thirteen-ton overdrives when a cruiser's shots smashed into the gas-bag's side, tearing an engine pod open and lighting the rear gun deck on fire.
The entire airship shook, listing, and Captain Saatenmacht himself was thrown against the wall as the world around him exploded into bright lights. Groaning, he pried himself off the floor, and staggered back to the vague shape of the helm as his vision slowly cleared. He groaned again and blinked.
He looked up again to to see the helm control board, the afterburner switch blinking green for ready. He reached for it, when a hand grabbed him from behind and threw him to the floor.
He cried out in agony as his assailant shot him in the chest, shooting his arm out and yanking as hard as he could as he found his attackers foot. There was another yell as his assailant crashed to the floor and final scream as a saber plunged into the assailant's chest. He looked up to see the more-than-welcome armored helmet of a Nationalist marine, the ever-present smoking shotgun held ready in his right hand, a long, slender assault saber in the other, which he drew out of the now-limp corpse. The marine extended a hand, and Captain Saatenmacht took it and stood up. The marine gave a quick salute, to which the Captain responded likewise, albeit shakier.

"Captain, the enemy have boarded the ship. We can hold them off for now, but not too long. What are your orders?"

The Captain staggered back to the helm dashboard.

"You must keep them away from the critical areas of the ship at all costs until we reach the 2nd Republic’s docks."

The marine saluted and ran off, one of the sailors bolting the door behind him.
Captain Saatenmacht gripped the wheel and pulled the ship up, finally reaching the altitude he desired. He reached for the afterburner switch and flipped it.
An alarm howled throughout the Lieutenant Wolff as the afterburners ignited with a mighty fwoosh lurching the ship forwards as friend and foe alike hastily found things to hold on to.

The Emperor-Admiral Taiwanpenguin stood at his observation post, a armored balcony with a large observation glass, watching the mining operation slowly finish. The last loads were being loaded into the hulk of the steel behemoth, the mining contraptions slowing down as they found less resources to collect.
All of a sudden, a single destroyer with one of its four engines on fire shot over the top of a mountain and into the narrow valley where the 2nd Republic resided.
The Emperor-Admiral stared in astonishment until a bright scarlet flare streaked out of the destroyer's gondola.

Attackers inbound.

Alarms sounded even as the Emperor-Admiral turned and ran towards the bridge. Th destroyer slowed, and floated down to dock with the 2nd Republic. The moment the airship docked, a contingent of Imperial Marine-Guards stormed the gondola, their sub-machine guns poised, their sabers drawn. The Emperor-Admiral entered the bridge room to a scene of panic, the navigators shouting orders down speaking-tubes to the engines below and the Captain frantically throwing switches and checking diodes. The Emperor-Admiral ignored this and went straight to the intercom. He needed not to rally his people. They already knew what was at stake. He only needed to say two words.

"Battle stations!"

At once the previously calm and filled market dispersed as guns were manned and citizens evacuated into the lower, more armored levels. They were replaced by the army green and gold of the Imperial Service Fleet, beelining for the airships that sat ready and fueled on the docks. The two massive cannons swung towards the valley bend where the 2nd Republic had passed through earlier, the ka-chunk of the rocket batteries being raised from belowtiers.

The Cassalvae slowly rolled into view, its citadel presented, bristling with guns and airships swarming towards the 2nd Republic. The 2nd Republic refused to become easy prey though, as the last of the mining equipment was stowed away as the engines roared and the Nation-Cities rolled forward at an increasing pace. Cassalvae's guns were already firing, little streaks of light becoming loud thunks as they bounced off the armor and crutches and muffled explosions as they hit the armor plates. There was a terrific explosion onboard the Cassalvae as one of the 2nd Republic’s main 38-inch railroad-gun's shells smashed into the Cassalvae's upper tiers, leaving a smashed debris zone upon the upper area. The Cassalvae was seemingly unfazed as it continued as though nothing had happened and responded with a rocket barrage.

The chase had begun.

What is the limit on orbital weapons? Do kinetic and missile weapons definitely register as dangerous, but what about weaponizing space shuttles by fitting them with explosives? Or just dragging cluster munitions into orbit to drop on top of enemy nations? Do we need a convention for such a case?

History / History of the Imperial Republic
« on: September 02, 2018, 03:42:58 PM »
Following the Ming Uprising of 1412, nearly five million former Ming subjects joined together under the ancient banner of the late former Emperor Hangzu von Atwaus, a remnant of the last Ming-Brandenburg Dynasty, before the bloody War of Siver Petals conquered its people and lands. It wasn't exactly a true republic, more like a parliamentary monarchy, but people had basic voting rights nonetheless until 1452 when an unknown force of nearly three and a quarter million foreign mercenaries stormed the Reformed Ming-Brandenburg Empire. It resulted in the extremely bloody Battle for Handong, a minor mountain city at the summit of the North Far Eastern Dragon Mountain Range, where the Imperial Army of around seven hundred thousand faced off the mercenary force of around two million mercenaries, where the Imperial forces managed to hold off the mercenaries for a stunning two months, largely thanks to the well-coordinated battle strategies of the Imperial Army, and well designed military infrastructure. Reinforcements of four million dragoons, grenadiers and Calvary from the national reserves and elite Imperial Royal Guard (but mostly Calvary and dragoons from the Imperial Reserves) arrived under General Hofferstant von Beihai and routed the mercenary force with the Battle of the Burning Snow, where Imperial grenadiers threw hundreds of thousands of firebombs of petroleum jelly mixed with gunpowder into the fray, causing massive casualties to the enemy force. The mercenaries, only equipped with medium-range muskets and cannons were stunned to be attacked with long-range rifle fire from the dragons, and even more so when the Calvary charged in and practically obliterated the entire artillery force from the east, where the formations of mercenary infantry had neglected to cover an open flank to their artillery batteries, allowing the Calvary to charge and wipe them out completely. Without artillery support, the mercenaries were beaten back and the Imperial Army proceeded to mass-charge the enemy.
The battle ended when all the mercenaries were either captured or dead, covered with brutal lacerations and bloody bullet wounds. From interrogation, the Imperial Intelligence discovered a plot by the neighboring Ardian Empire, which they did, upon the defeat of their mercenaries. The war was brutal, costing both sides millions of casualties, and lasting until 1487, when the Empire of Ardia brought its armies and allies to the Imperial Capital of Nanjing, resulting in the crushing Battle of the Burning Lead, where the remaining Imperial Army was defeated, though bringing down five times the casualties they had taken. The Emperor was killed, and his entire administration either committed suicide or took part in the Last Stand of the Shattered Sword, where the Imperial Marine-Guards and other elements of the Imperial Army stood their ground in the defense and evacuation of the Royal Emperor-to-be and hundreds of thousands of civilians. The last remnants of the Imperial military went into hiding, exile, or went with the Emperor-to-be's contingent force. Such was the end of the Restored Empire.
But the Ardian Empire failed to hold onto the Chinese lands, in 1494, when the Emperor-to-be's daughter and heiress to the throne, commanded a small army of half a million Imperial Royal Guards, Remnant Imperial Army and common peasants armed with rifles decisively defeated the enemy at Hannong, as the small army outmaneuvered the unprepared and lax occupying Ardian forces and took their regional governer hostage. The Ardian Empire figured that the bloodshed and cost of sending another force to retake the are would be far to expensive, despite being ridiculously wealthy in natural resources. They agreed on a ceaseifre, allowing the Heiress to re-establish the empire, but this time under the flag of the First Chinese Republic. Thus began the prosperous thirty years of the First Republic, with the Emperor holding the title of Imperial Admiral, beginning with Heiress Huaning, it as she was fondly nicknamed by the people for her military might and yet kindness to the commons, the Steel Blossum.
The First Republic came into being on June 23, 1498, with the Imperial Admiral Huaning and President Gubang in power, with a large parliament of 72, representing all, including minorities and common laborers.
