RP Mod note on Mundus Games
« on: June 22, 2021, 08:30:45 PM »
Over the last couple of Mundus Games (Winter & Summer) we've begun to see number spamming of entrants. This is tempting because of the random scorenator system used to help determine results. The issue is however that this makes the games rather unrealistic. The Mundus Games is in most ways a replica of the Olympics.

The Olympics it is expected that (at least in theory) every competitor is expected to be capable of medalling. This brings me to the first issue, if you're sending four athletes in an event like say boxing you're sending someone who can't medal.

The next issue is how qualification takes place. For this events can largely be split between performance related events (ones that measure times such as running, distance like throwing etc) and then competition ones where knock out competition or something similar takes place, such as say boxing.

PERFORMANCE RELATED

You have to meet a set performance level in an internationally recognised event. For example to qualify for the men's 100meters in the 2020 Olympics you either need to win your nations trials or have run sub 10.05 in a International Olympic Committee recognised event. To date that means 54 people across the world have qualified as of today.

As a result seeing nations with more than 3 athletes in these types of sports is likely impossible. I believe the IOC also have capped teams at a maximum of three per track and field event meaning should four male athletes run sub 10.05 from the UK then the UK would have to pick their three.

COMPETITION EVENTS

These vary from sport to sport but usually follow a practice of where certain competitions carry a points value. For this example lets say a Grand Prix event (usually one a month) carries 20 point, a National Championship carried 40 points, a continental championship 60 points, a world championship 80 points, finishing a season ranked No.1 = 100 points. Points are usually awarded to the top 10 finishes in each of these on a sliding scale.

To qualify for the Olympics you would 200 points in a 4 year period. This as you can imagine is a challenging total. The Olympics would set a maximum number of competitors for each sport as of course its a knock out competition and with sports such as boxing competing so many times in a short space is impossible. So for this example lets say they will allow 64 athletes.

Between 2016 and these Olympics imagine only around 2/3 of the 64 places will go to qualifies. It would then go down the world rankings for that sport until they reached a total of 64 individuals.

As a result you are not likely to get more than perhaps 3 in your entries. The reason for this is to qualify for a Grand Prix event you would usually need to be top 3 ranked in your nation, to get an invite to the World Championships you would need to probably be top 2 from your nation.

At present we have people entering 6 and upwards of competitors in these games.

CONCLUSION

1. Don't number spam
2. Keep numbers realistic
3. Think about how these sports are actually reflected in reality in terms of elite competition.

My tip is you really shouldn't be having more than 3 people in a performance event and most likely 2/3 in a competition event.
