BIOGRAPHY
Born merely two years before the outbreak of the Sipuran War, Joko Baswedan was the nephew of a prominent general in the Sipuran Republican Army. His family
had been split up by the tides of the civil war, unable to reconnect owing to the Peoples Republic of Sipura having closed the border to the east, and he would, ultimately,
never get the chance to meet his maternal grandparents nor his aunts and uncles. Nonetheless, growing up, he had to watch his nation descend into war, see Daitōjin
boots on its soil, and eventually, at the age of ten, he would be forced to flee, like many loyalists, to the island of Sawu and its surrounding archipelago.
Joko, like many others, never forgot his homeland. Though it was now under the tyranny of the People's Republic, its people ensnared by the Sipuran Communist Party,
he would not allow it to remain in that state of decay. He longed to walk the mainland's shores, to see its jungles and mountains again, and for a unified Sipuran nation, a
state which neither he, nor any of his generation, had lived through. He would, therefore, join the navy, rising through the ranks until achieving the rank of Rear Admiral
before, on a fateful day in 2016, the People's Republic came for that which remained of the true Sipuran government.
Admiral Baswedan, in command of a small flotilla of vessels in the Sipuran Republican Navy, would do what he could to hold off the invasion as long as possible, however,
it was going to be a losing battle. As such, on the 28th of October, as the last holdouts of the Republic of Sipura began to fall, he was ordered to evacuate to Tsukishima, in
the Empire of Daitō, and seek aid from the government there. As a personal mission, he would also escort a number of refugees to the island, however, though he was ready
to go into exile once more, he vowed on that day that he would return. And return, he did. Though the fighting would be hard, his efforts would eventually lead to the
reunification of Sipura in 2017, whereupon, by vote of the newly-established National Assembly, he would be appointed the Interim President of the Sipuran Provisional
Government. Now, as Sipura prepares for its first elections since the war, there is a lingering question as to the future: Will Joko Baswedan step down, or will he take power
for himself?
