« on: July 21, 2021, 09:47:36 AM »

Motto:- Forward. Ever Onward
National Anthem:- Name of Anthem

BACKGROUND
  • The nation was originally created as a private Kingdom for Roger Lymm. He was a wealthy mercenary Knight in the 1200's from East Moreland. As a reward for gifting large sums of money to King Hugh of the White Horse he was granted this land to rule as King in his own right.
  • Over the next 30 years of his life the now King, Roger Lymm expanded his land until it became a sizeable Kingdom in its own right.
  • In the mid 1400's the Lymm family line came to an end and it passed to another family from ?????? who had married into the Lymm Dynasty.
  • The Kingdom experienced various religious clashes during the 16th Century until King Alfred II imposed the Decree of Sovereign Rights on the nation. Sadly King Alfred II was assassinated a year later by Catholic fanatics
  • The daughter of King Alfred II, Queen Ophelia became the first Queen of Lymm and set about a period of mass executions of those breaching her father's decree. We estimate some 80,000 people were executed in her 20 year reign
  • During the Industrial Revolution the people of Lymm began to experience extreme poverty and poor living conditions. King Henry III (known as Henry the Kind) and his daughter, Queen Henrietta the Caring, set about a series of reforms to ensure the people were cared for. They formed the Contract of Lymm, an agreement between their subjects and the crown. The Contract of Lymm is seen as the cornerstone of Lymm's society.
  • Today the Contract of Lymm insists that any company operating in Lymm must have its workers given at least 33% of the shares of that company.
  • The Contract of Lymm guides the partnership between the current monarch, Parliament and the people in an attempt to balance power.

HOW THE LYMM GOVERNMENT WORKS

The government of Lymm operates, for most decisions, on what people refer to as a two tick system. This means there are three people/groups that make a decision. For any law to change it must get the approval, in most cases, of at least two of the three. There are certain aspects of government where this system changes but still retains the input of the three people/groups. The three potential ticks are

1. The Monarch - This has been since 1987 determined by the inheritance of the crown by the eldest legitimate child of the previous monarch.

2. The President - The President is elected every 5 years. They may serve no more than three terms in the office.

3. The Royal Assembly - This is a body of 50 individuals elected every 5 years. Their meetings are overseen by an Assembly Chair who is the official spokesperson of the Assembly.

AREAS OF GOVERNMENT

* Agriculture - Two ticks

* Fisheries - Two ticks

* Forestry - Two ticks

* Budget - Two ticks, Royal Assembly have a veto

* Education - Two ticks

* Economic Development - Two ticks

* Public Health - Two ticks, Royal Assembly have a veto

* Health Service - Two ticks

* Highways and Transport - Two ticks

* Tourism - Two ticks

* Culture - Two ticks

* Foreign Affairs - Two ticks, Monarch has a veto

* Defence - Two ticks, one must be the Monarch

* Justice - Two ticks, one must be the President

KEY INFORMATION

Judges are appointed by the Monarch

Government ministers are shortlisted by the monarch, selected by the President and approved by the Royal Assembly

THE HALL OF CROWNS

Since the beginning of the nation a memorial of sorts has stood on a spot some 5km South of Bruche on a hillside overlooking the river Marven. It was said to be the site King Roger had first named himself King of his new land. Roger had three large stone walls built and upon them intended the names of the monarchs of Lymm to be engraved. The site has been adapted over the years after several monarchs sought to safeguard the memorial from the elements and vandalism. Today a granite stone memorial hall stands over the wall.

A Royal Stonemason lives permanently on site and is responsible for maintaining the Hall, the memorial and several other buildings that are on the parkland. The coronation of every monarch takes place in the hall with the stonemason inscribing their name and the date the very moment the crown is placed on their head. At the moment the death of the monarch is announced the Royal Stonemason will add the date of death. The Hall is able to be visited today by booking and may only be done so with an official guide. These guides are members of the Armed Forces ceremonial Memorial Guard unit who are responsible for the ceremonies and security at many important sites across Lymm.

THE PRESIDENTIAL PALACE

In 1837 King Henry III made the decision that the nation would have an elected President. All adults with an income of the modern day equivalent of $20,000 and over the age of 30 could vote. These conditions have changed throughout history until 1902 when all citizens over the age of 18 were permitted to vote. A President can serve no more than three terms in their life. Each term is usually five years.

POLITICAL PARTIES IN LYMM

The first Political Party set up in Lymm was in 1837 just a day after King Henry III gave the people the right to vote. It was the National Workers Alliance, a group dedicated to ensuring the fair treatment of factory workers and also extending the voting rights. Since then several parties have existed but there are four main ones.

1. THE WORKERS MOVEMENT

This is today what the National Workers Alliance has become. It is a party to the left of political spectrum. It campaigns regularly for nationalisation of all key industries such as power generation, health care, transport and various other areas. The party also want to extend the vote to all over the age of 16 and extend the nations policy of 33% of all businesses being owned by their workers to it being 51%. In elections they tend to get 20% of the vote.

2. THE GREEN PARTY

One of the newer parties as it was made in 1983. It became popular among younger voters. The party began as a group focusing on better treatment for the environment but today is considered more focused on expanding what it see's as equality and human rights. The party believes in eradicating gaps between rich and poor through top down policies. The party also attempt to bring in opportunities for social mobility. The Party tend to get around 10% of the vote.

3. THE DEMOCRAT UNION

Founded in 1933 after the merger of several "conservative" parties to form a "mega party". The party runs mainly on a platform of small government with the removal of red tape for business, simplification of tax codes and an upholding of family values. With Lymm having so many religious groups the aspect of supporting family values has occasionally caused clashes within the party as they seek to balance all view points. The party tend to get around 25% of the vote.

4. THE PARTY OF NATIONAL UNITY

The party seeks to create a single unified culture for Lymm focusing on the shared aspects of the Christian, Jewish and Cultist faiths. It see's the monarchy as a cornerstone of society and an excellent role model. They are anti-Communist believing that they seek to eradicate the uniqueness of Lymm in favour of foreign control. They also want to economy to protect Lymm's people as best as possible. They are very determined to ensure the Assembly and Monarch hold all the power in the nation. The party tend to get around 10% of the vote.

MINOR PARTIES

There are around a further ten minor parties that exist. These range across all aspects of the political spectrum.

1. The Lymm Communist Party
2. The Liberal Party
3. Social Democratic Front
4. Reform Party
5. The Christian Democrats
6. The Party of Helus
7. The Republican Party
8. The Alliance for Change
9. The Children's Birthday Party
10. The Monarchist Alliance

DAS NEUNBURG
The Nine Forts

When King Roger arrived in the early 1200's he made it a priority to create a safe haven for settlers. This was along the coast and as such a series of nine, almost uniformly distanced from each other, fortresses were formed. These were collectively known as the the Neunberg or Nine Forts. Over time they have become ports and key centres in their own rights but are the oldest settlements within Lymm.

1. Rogerburg (The Fort of Roger)

Today the city of Rogerburg has no outward sign of its historic and fortified past. It is seen today as more of a popular seaside getaway and resort. During the summer months people flock to take advantage of the Alucard waters and high temperatures. During the off season the city has become reliant on a vibrant merchant ship building hub. The city retains many of its old structures which add to its tourist appeal.

The city has an annual jazz festival in July.

The city has two major multi-sports clubs Rogerburg SC and Rogerburg 1908.

The city is served by the University of Rogerburg, which is famed for its Maritime Engineering Programme and the First King University, which is famed for its Literature and Humanities classes.

Around 500,000 people live here
RL- Rostock

2. Jekburg (The Fort of Jekar)

Jekburg was the 2nd of the fort settlements built to control the coastline. It sits on the mouth of the river Roselle which is home to a fairly sizeable commercial port. The city has been damaged several times by natural disasters and fire and as a result has been rebuilt with plenty of green space between its streets. The river now splits the city which sees an older portion which is mainly recreational to the south and a more modern commercial settlement to the North. This has caused a few problems with traffic issues as people try and transverse the river however actions to remedy this has been undertaken in the last few years.

Upon founding the city the settlers discovered a buried cache of spears which they took as a sign that the settlement was favoured by the God of War from the Cult of Helus, Jekar, and named the settlement after him. The city does host a sizeable naval base.

Today St. George's Cathedral in the city organises an annual International Choir Championship.

The city is home to three multi-sports teams, Jekburg Warriors, Jekburg Dynamo and Jekburg Boys Club

The city has two major Universities. The University of Jekburg is home to a well respected engineering department while the Jekburg Metropolitan School is famed for Art and Performing Arts.

The city has a population in the region of 900,000.

RL-Riga

3. Helusburg (The Fort of Helus)

The city marks the spot where the first Temple to Helus was built within the nation. It was on a spot where the Priestess of Helus who was part of King Roger's retinue believed the God had once set foot on Ardia. The city built up around the Temple which sadly has today become nothing more than an archaeology site however in its old gardens stands a Temple built in the 1700's which is considered the nations main Temple. The city is home to many water ways that allowed cargo ships to dock on the coast and transport wool and cotton to warehouses and mills that for a while dominated the city. Today many of these are now trendy apartments and shopping malls. The city still maintains a large commercial port.

The city maintains three Universities. The Helusburg University is famed for its Business courses. The Sacred College of Helus is a University devoted to members of the Cult of Helus but teaches a wide range of subjects. The Coastal Institute is respected for its teaching of various courses connected to the sea.

The city has two major multi-sports teams - Eintract Helusburg and VfB Helusburg

The city is home to a large amusement park dating back to 1578. Today it features many modern rides and attractions including a wooden roller coaster dated to 1915.

Marissa Gardens is also a park with some small scale rides and many small theatres and halls for performances making it a kind of cultural theme park.

The city has a population of around 700,000 people.

THE SOVEREIGN ARMY OF LYMM (SAL)

Members of the SAL 3rd Light Infantry Regiment

Members of the 2nd King's Rifles on Parade

With a history that can be traced back to the adventurous who came over to Lymm with King Roger. One of those units was the Dukes Own Engineers who built fortifications and defences for the settlers. In combat they dug ditches and trenches to help protect the army. Today that regiment is known as the Royal Engineers and is the oldest regiment in the SAL.

All recruits for non-commissioned roles pass through the SAL Training Centre at Birkewald where they spend 15 weeks studying the Common Military Syllabus which covers basic soldiering skills. Following that each individual is assigned a Regiment based on their scores, qualifications and preferences. After successfully completing this stage they attend the following establishments for Phase 2 training.

* The Army Foundation College - Located at Eichehagen this course is designed for units on the front line such as infantry, artillery , armoured units ect. Their training lasts 30 weeks. Upon completion they join their Regiment and begin further weeks of "Integration Training".

* The Army Training Centre - Located at Birkewald this course is designed for courses requiring elements of specialist training such as Engineering, medical, musical or legal. It is expected that these courses will require significant amounts of in class teaching as opposed to hands on training such as that at the Foundation College. These courses last 20 weeks. Upon completion it is likely that those on them will attend specialist training run by civilian agencies for example those joining the Queen's Medical Corps are expected to spend 12 weeks working in a civilian Accident and Emergency Department.

* The Institute of Defence Skills - Located in Bruche this institution teaches skills relating to Aviation, Paratrooping, commando skills, NBC Warfare and various other specialist programmes. It is a 14 week course before joining your Regiment. The Institute also works to enhance skills of existing soldiers from time to time.

Officers meanwhile undertake a 36 week basic training programme at Mulhulme College. Having successfully completed this course Officers then join one of the courses for people in their regiment and undertake a condensed version of the course.

THE SOVEREIGN NAVY (SN)

Gun practice on SNV Voller

Briefing prior to Homecoming Parade on SNV Matthaus

All new recruits to the Navy head to Meerburg regardless of whether they are entering as a rating or an officer. Both are trained seperately but complete a 12 week basic soldiering course designed to make them effective infantry if needed. Following this officers make their way to Sovereign Naval Station Hafenburg where they begin a 20 week officer training course. At the same time ratings remain at Meerburg and complete a six week course designed to teach them basic skills for life at sea, this is done regardless of whether their job requires them to be at sea or not. Ratings then attend a training centre based upon the skills they are required for their job. Officers having completed their course at Hafenburg undertake a specific training course for their task.

The Navy contains the Sovereign Marines Commando (SMC) which are tasked with carrying out special operations from naval vessels. They also provide onboard security. To become a Marine an individual first needs to complete the Armies Common Military Syllabus, however they are held to a higher standard in all tests. Upon successful completion of this course they move to Commando School at Jekburg where they complete a two week Commando Readiness course which is designed to weed out any the instructors believe would not be a good fit for the Marines. Anyone passing this then begins a 30 week Commando training course and upon graduation earn their black beret.

SOVEREIGN AIR FORCE (SAF)

F-21 Eule Pilot in flying gear

SAF On Parade

The Air Force can trace its history back to the Royal Balloon Corps which was founded in 1840 to investigate the use of hot air balloons for helping observe the enemy. In 1910 the Air Evaluation Corps was established to look at how the developing planes of the period could be converted to military use.

All airmen are required to pass a 12 week course at SAF Peterheim. This course covers very little to do with the air force operations and in essence puts the airmen through the same training infantry are expected to cover. The thinking behind this is that everyone in the military may be needed for defending an air base from ground attack. The Air Force does have a specialist air base defence force. Upon completion of the SAF Peterheim course graduates go to a specialist training centre based upon their trade, for example Air Traffic Controllers attend a 25 week course at Peterheim while engineers attend a 52 week course at Bruhle.

Officers first complete a 27 week long Officer Training Course at SAF Peterheim with a focus similar to that of the airmen's course. Upon completion they are sent to their respective training centres alongside airmen graduates. Pilots undertake a 12 week basic aviation course before being streamed into either fast jet, multi-engine or rotary wing fields. All pilots then undertake a further 30 week training course on their particular specialism. During this 30 weeks the type of aircraft they will fly during their career and training on this takes up the last 10 weeks of this second course.

PROTESTANT CHURCH IN LYMM

Bruche's St. Hubertus Cathedral

The nation was founded on the Cult of Helus however today the Protestant faith is followed by more people than any other religion. It was estimated at the last Census that 30% of the nation are classed as Protestants.

In the late 1560's Protestant missionaries came to Lymm in an attempt to convert people to their faith. Discovering that a large number of the influential nobility were still clinging to the Cult of Helus and that followers of that faith often had an interest in hunting the Missionaries utilised the story of Saint Hubertus to try and attract the followers to the faith. This approached seemed to work and Duke Jens Mahlsson was publically baptised by missionaries in Bruche's river in 1567. This act was witnessed by hundreds of others and the Duke's influence was such that the missionaries found themselves overwhelmed and according to chronicles from the time period the baptisms lasted "Long after sundown."

Duke Jens Mahlsson began a construction programme of Churches across the nation with each being dedicated to a saint selected by himself. In 1578 he died and this practice of naming churches after saints continued however now the local community make the decision. As the original Protestant converts grew in number they founded the Church of Lymm and soon after this caused conflict with the Catholic communities as some Catholic Churches were transformed into Protestant ones. This at times lead to violent clashes between the two with Royal forces often having to intervene between them. In 1676 Bishop Timothy of Bruche formalised much of the Church's practices and liturgy at the Synod of the Cobbles which took place outside the newly repaired Cathedral of Bruche. The Synod offered to recognise the monarch as the head of the Church if they accepted baptism and converted from the Cult of Helus, this however was rejected by the then King. The Synod of the Cobbles still influences a lot of the Chuch's life today and its key findings included.

1. The use of the Lymm Common Prayer Book - replaced Latin with English as the language of the Church. It was written in such a way as to use the "vernacular of the fields" which would allow as many people as possible to access it. The Church also tried establishing schools believing reading and writing was important to allow everyone to be able to use this.

2.Worship - The Synod established a pattern used in most acts of worship. A service should begin with a bible reading then progress to a sermon focusing on some moral story or exploration of the initial bible reading. The service should finish with a series of prayers. It was also advised that a hymn should be sung before each transition.

3. Vestments - Priests are expected to wear plain white or black robes for services.

4. Communion - Only baptised individuals may be given communion.

A Typical Quaker's Meeting Hall

With Lymm having a great many remote communities it was at times difficult to get enough Priests to cover the whole nation. This is one reason why in the 1750's the Quaker movement found a great number of adherents as people believed it was possible for  each human being to experience and access the light within or see "that of God in every one". Today it is estimated that around 5% of Lymm are members of the Quaker faith.

CATHOLIC CHURCH IN LYMM

The Church of St.Raphael in Bruhle

There had been a small Catholic community in the region known as Lymm since the early 8th Century AD. This had existed in and around the modern town of Rogerburg. This community had established a monastery there dedicated to care of lepers and as such had dedicated themselves to Raphael because of the connection to healing. With the arrival of the Cultists in the 13th Century the Catholics were pushed further south which actually helped spread the faith. There was some initial bloodshed between the two groups but with King Roger setting an edict that so long as loyalty was sworn to him as King people's religion would be ignored. There was even some members of the King's bodyguard who petitioned him to join a Crusade and where granted permission creating the "Holy Order of Rapael" they dedicated their efforts into collecting wounded after battles and opening hospitals to care for them.

With the arrival of Protestant missionaries in the 1560's the then Archbishop of Rogerburg tried to persuade the then King to eradicate the "Heretics" sticking to his ancestor Roger's decree this was not permitted however this did not stop the "Holy Order of Rapael" and some copycat Protestant groups clashing throughout the early 1600's. As such the King's military combatted both communities periodically to stop the aggression between the two.

Since the 1700's the Catholic faith has held steady within the nation and today 20% of the population identify as Catholic.

PAGANISM IN LYMM

A typical Pagan Temple

The Pagan faith is considered to be the native faith of Lymm. It's oldest Temples can trace their roots back to beyond the 5th Century BC.

The major focus of the Pagan faith is respect and veneration of nature alongside the veneration of ancestors. As such the group focus on protecting the connection between humans and the land and they also view all living things as having a sacred spirit. The group have historically been critical of the way the nation has "destroyed nature." The group have long been persecuted until the decree of King Roger. This decree largely protected them from further persecution and their faith being eradicated.

The group has no real set of deities. The majority of pagans believe in a family of supernatural spirits called "Si" who are very similar to fairies or elves in many branches of folklore. It is believed the "Si" are able to act as a conduit between humans and the other spiritual elements of the world. As such prayers and offerings are directed towards the "Si"

One of the early problems the faith encounted was its belief in sacrifice, this is still carried on today but is more in line with the concepts of sacrifice in the Cult of Helus, in the respect that it is giving up things of value to oneself. The faith did carry out human sacrifice, usually criminals or prisoners of war but on occasion there have been examples of children born with deformities sacrificed.

All Pagan groups however have adopted the use of the Druid's Prayer and it is one of the unifying aspects of this faith.

""Grant O spirits, thy protection
and in protection, strength
and in strength, understanding
and in understanding, knowledge
and in knowledge, the knowledge of justice
and in the knowledge of justice, the love of it
and in the love of it, the love of all existences
and in the love of all existences, the love of the spirits and all Goodness""

At the last census around 20% of the population identified as Pagan.

JUDAISM IN LYMM

Synagogue of Koniginstadt

In the 5th Century a Jewish community established itself in Koninginstadt. They established the town as a significant trade centre until pushed further South by the arrival of the Catholics in the 8th Century. During the period 800-1100 the Jewish community found themselves under pressure accused of human sacrifice over use of blood at passover as well as being accused of causing various outbreaks of plague by their local community faring relatively better than other groups. With Catholic rules of money lending, the already established trade importance of Koninginstadt and the Pagan communities distrust of urbanisation the Jewish community established the initial banking system in the region.

When the Cult of Helus arrived King Roger utilised their network as a way of expanding his own influence. As such the Jewish community was well protected.

The religious community being rather protected has made the region welcoming of the Jewish community and the Halakha was actually utilised in Koninginstadt until 1610 when King William put a stop to different communities utilising different laws and courts. There are still examples of the more Orthodox community still informally using their own courts for judgements on issues such as divorce and family law. This can at times lead to conflict with the authorities.

Today around 15% of Lymm are identified as Jewish.
