TELEGRAPH UNION OF HUAXIA

Protests gather Illumic Channel and Mhorish Sea as fear rises over fishing rights

Various local unions throughout the country today have taken to the streets in what they call "The March to the Sea" in an effort to demand a stronger response from the Congress of Trade to address concerns over coastal fishing rights. Local leaders have called for peace and a return to work in hopes to quell the protests as more formal discussions can be held, however after nearly a year of stalled negotiation and even sidelined legislation in the Congress have resulted in tensions reaching a breaking point along the northern coast of the nation.

Huaxia, long prided on its unique form of governance is moderately well known in the international community. Modern governments and the costly nature of war has given the young government time to properly establish itself within the last few decades, as well as properly establish and enforce its territorial rights internationally; mostly due to its shared cultural heritage and identity. However, in recent years with the rise of global trade and ever growing private enterprises from neighboring regions, said territorial integrity is becoming harder and harder to enforce. Strike organizers claim the problem falls with the government, an intrinsic problem not considered at the time of the countries radical reformation. While it is easy to maintain trustful relations with neighboring nations, it is much harder to do so with companies and other private enterprises. To make matters worse, the Huaxian 'navy' exists mostly in name alone—relying instead on provincial militias to produce, regulate, and maintain small naval forces to guard their coastlines. A safeguard against a strong militarist state perhaps, but one that finds itself incapable of dealing with illegal fishing and shrimping off the coastline. Larger vessels tend to outrun any militia one, and as you travel farther from the shore the dangers of the open ocean begin to challenge even the most sturdy of vessels the officials own.

"It's just bullshit man. Look, I get it. You won't find a more understanding people than those at this strike right now. We're patriots, we love our country but we think this whole thing is inherently flawed. No navy so to speak? We know it exists, they have posters every now and then on government owned buildings advertising service but where are they now? I have a family to feed, and this overfishing is getting ridiculous. Hell, it isn't even JUST the fishing anymore—You know they actually hook up hoses to the side of their larger ships? They drive us off if we get too close and contest the water!" - Huaxian Striker

Local vessels being sprayed as patrol boats attempt to force a retreat

Officials from surrounding Unions have expressed their sympathies for the strikers, with many wishing a quick end to the strikes and swift congressional intervention to ensure their livelihoods are protected. Some have even planned solidarity protests for early next month.

The Telegraph contacted the Office of the President for any official word, however at this time nothing was given. Other representatives at the Congress were however available for comment:

"It's a troubling issue." Says Li Daoshu, Union Representative for Huaxia's steel industry. "On one hand, the lack of a centralized military is a cornerstone of our democracy. We weren't deaf to the rise of other leftist nations in the past, and how their radicalism lead them to authoritarianism with the jackboot of the military to enforce their demands. But we also are completely aware that even an apolitical military like that in some of Mundus' first world have their problems. A large military tends to make one a strategic threat, whether it intends to be or not. 'Optimistic Pacifism' isn't exactly the word I'd use to describe it, but it is how we see ourselves. We're hopeful for all things to resolve peacefully when it comes to our national security, and for awhile it seems to have been working. But right now we are faced with a difficult decision with an enemy that reminds us of our past. Corporate interests are dangerous interests, and while we know our enemy it is much harder to fight them when they are not actively in our streets."

Not all representatives feel the same however, Shi Zhao (Rep. Wool) disagrees fundamentally. "I'm not anti-strike, to think that is even remotely the case after the yellow tongue scare earlier this summer is absolutely childish. No, but I am anti-reform. What we have WORKS, and it works for a reason. It may not affect everyone equally but the type of reform and action they are asking for is a universal threat to our way of life. If we give the military an inch, even a little bit of political breathing room, we'll have them breathing down our necks in no time. I believe in worker rights, but I do not think anyone who volunteers to serve our nation deserves to be represented in the Union, and that is exactly what will happen if we nationalize the militias as these so called 'Protestors' are calling for. We should seek communication channel with foreign companies to ensure our territorial sovereignty is respected. If that means asking for foreign assistance in wrangling in their cabal of corporate pigs then so be it! All the better for it if you ask me.

For now it seems the tensions will remain heated as Congress isn't slated for any session in the near future. The end of the year is quickly closing in, and while we are still months away from 2021 the course of the nation through the year will be the topic for debate in the coming Congressional meeting later this month and many are banking on the strikes to subside by then.

TELEGRAPH UNION OF HUAXIA

Yellow Tongue - 2020

As the news of Yellow Tongue continues to spread globally, its effects are still being discussed between nations around Mundus. Huaxia itself has begun to report an uptick in cases, numbering around 800 identified cases and fears of it spreading to local wildlife remain high. Various veterinarian associations have come forward to help calm the fears of worried citizens, stating that cross contamination is unlikely and any prolonged effects should hopefully be avoided with the efforts being outlined by the Huaxia government. Internationally, communication between the Republic of Kaitaine has been underway to help address any potential shortages and reach an agreement on cooperation in finding a vaccine should the epidemic continue well into the fall. Other nations have begun to limit their export and imports, isolating pockets of the virus in all major continents but preventing anymore contamination during long voyages over seas. Concerns over meat shortages world wide still continue, however, and plans to begin rationing food across Huaxia in an effort to avoid any panic buying are already being discussed. For now, authorities would like to remind everyone that consumption of Yellow Tongue infected meat should be avoided if at all possible and to report any suspicious activity in regards to local wildlife.

--- Fears of meat shortage spark increase in fishing by locals --- Concerns regarding local navies remain as foreign fishing vessels continue to infest local waters --- Meeting with Kaitaine --- Rumors of a rapprochement with other leftist states underway ---

TELEGRAPH UNION OF HUAXIA

Founded in 1907 under a different name, the Telegraph Union of Huaxia represents a collaboration between various local news agencies in an effort to make international news more accessible to the working class. The news agency itself has little involvement with official state reporting but has been authorized by the Congress of Trade to serve as the states' news outlet since 1997.

The event wasn't a first for Huaxia, but it certainly wasn't a common affair. At least 6 Presidents have entered and left office without making any official state visits, and while a lot of that can be chalked up to Huaxia's own battle with isolationism in the past, the conflict between Rokkenjima and the USR certainly muddied the waters for international diplomacy quite a bit. President Liu Hai's cabinet didn't even wait for an official response before preparation was well underway, with experts called in from around the country to help the nation best determine how it would represent itself. After a series of rather intense debates and a (few) walkouts, Liu had the final word, choosing something more modest not only to represent his own past but that of the country itself.

The Kaitaine delegation would find their entry to the country rather tame, officials representing different trades gave their greetings in various parts of their travel all while the local militia began to secure areas around the route and escort the delegation to the Trade House. Upon arrival numerous staff assisted with finalizing all the proper procedures up until the last minute before guiding Mr. Pasternak and his company through the house. Along the walls were various paintings and murals depicting the early history of the country along with a few family photos. The building itself was certainly not just for show, it was a very lived in home and the intent to show that was clear. Some rooms, while clean, had an ordered chaos to them that only Liu Hai and his family knew how to navigate while some parts seemed weathered and obviously aged. The tour, along with a mild history of the home itself, came to a close as they approached a larger living room of which the President stood to greet them.

"Mr. Pasternak!" He greeted boisterously, in stark contrast to his letter. He was of average height, his hair already greying well beyond his control and his stomach just so barely beginning to lose its tough and taut shape; though one would hardly notice given his western styled suit. His smile was warm, and his eyes alight with color as he offered a handshake to the men before him—his hands were rough and calloused and certainly told a story of his past.

"It is a pleasure to meet you," He took a moment to look towards the Minister, "Both of you. We have much to discuss, sit sit!" He encouraged, offering a seat to the two of them.

"I'm glad your government responded to my letter, it took quite a bit out of me to be so formal." He joked with a short laugh, his eyes darting to the door as a staff member brought a few glasses of water for them before quickly retreating. "Hope the country hasn't given you any trouble, I know traveling isn't exactly thrilling at my age."

A few moments passed of pleasantries before he reached down and pulled up a leather bag. Rummaging around in it for a few moments he pulled out a few papers and documents before laying them on the table and with a sigh he got to work.

"Well I suppose we should get down to it then, no? State business and all that." He chuckled, taking out some reading glasses as he looked over some papers. "I suppose given its recent effect I'd like to ask about Yellowtongue and the effect you think it might have on your economy? Huaxia itself is rather diversified, but a hit to the livestock could be disastrous to her textile production if left unchecked; not to mention the loss of beef and lamb production. We'd survive really, but 'survive' isn't really what we're looking to accomplish now, is it? Thriving is preferred among all else. As you can imagine, it's rather hard to get the Unions to admit to some things during times like this, some of the farming districts are choosing to not post numbers of infected 'Until they are sure they are accurate' which doesn't really bode too well. Others are more cooperative though, and I can at least say the majority of our stock is healthy and we have yet to report a case in the wild. Given your distance, is it safe to assume your livestock are relatively unaffected? I'd like to ensure if possible trade in that region remains strong between our two nations. If we need to isolate globally from importing meat, I think we might just barely be able to support our two populations so long as we ration just a little. As for wool, that's a bit trickier. It doesn't take too well here, and we mostly import it from other nations so we'd certainly need help there." His words droned on for a few minutes, giving the technical babble required before waiting their responses. This was really just a formality truly, to get a better taste for foreign diplomacy while also getting to know the two men before him.

A letter to the Soviet Republic of Kaitaine

To President Stephen McPherson,

In the long history of worker revolutions throughout Mundus, there have been many a difference between ideological sectors often either drawing their own conclusions from famed writings or the profound influence of the USR. These differences can often be viewed, and often are, insurmountable to one another. It is through these differences that one can see the diversity forming between the 'Leftist' nations throughout the world, one that threatens to consume the international movement in the long run if these concerns are not addressed; especially when compared to the various monarchical and oligarchic nature of the leading world powers. It is not the Huaxian position to rattle sabres or consider a more offensive position but it is our concern to see that our way of life is not threatened by those who would wish to capitalize on our perceived weakness. To that, the Congress of Trade has granted and petitioned me, President Liu Hai, to contact and hopefully bring about talks with the Soviet Republic of Kaitaine.

These talks are less about ideological differences, as vast as they are between our two nations, but rather about the foundation and formation of something more than the sum of our parts. It would be ill of me to suggest anything so grandiose at the moment so if you are willing to forgive the dullness of this encounter I would wish to speak of the following:
  • The current economic situations faced by our two nations, and what (if any) is there to do to further strengthen our economic capabilities.
  • The purchase and procurement of military goods, if possible and willing.
  • Discussions regarding Yellowtongue and what Kaitaine and Huaxia can do for one another in the event of a global livestock pandemic.
  • Future goals that we wish to achieve in this new relationship.
I wish to make it clear that Huaxia, while peaceful by its very nature, is a willing and competent ally in the fight for workers' rights and against those who wish to subjugate us either directly or indirectly. Through these talks it is the hope of the Congress I was elected to represent that this disunified collection of leftist nations around the world can once again be unified in a single cause, regardless of ideological differences. While there are lines in the sand where others dare not tread, the foundations of our cause should be our unifying call. Ideological debates and concerns of how to better implement the vision of a workers' paradise are discussions better left to the future when the future generations are better equipped to engage in this conversation without the ever present fear of the bourgeoisie still apparent.

From yours,
President Liu Hai

"Bluetongue?" An inquisitive voice called out towards a man kneeling next to a rasping sheared sheep on the floor. A sigh escaped his lips as she shook his head, wiping his hands before letting them rest on his knee as he turned to meet the man who spoke. "No actually, similar enough but we haven't had a bluetongue outbreak in this province for at least 20 years. I thought you had this lot vaccinated?" He asked, standing up as the man drew closer only to refuse a handshake as his hands were far from clean after examining the animal. Truth was, the vaccination question was weightless as it wouldn't answer any of the questions he had floating around in his head. The symptoms were strange enough, but there was no telling how infectious it was nor if it was isolated to this particular herd. Other concerns grew as the thought of what else came into contact with the wool in the days leading up to the first symptoms showing.

"Yeah, at least I thought so. Union was very clear about it the last time we had a bluetongue outbreak, these are maybe third or fourth generation, but I haven't had any cases since so I assumed we took care of it. You think this is serious enough to report?" The farmer asked, leaning down and placing a hand on the sheep's head to ease its passing; a somber expression taking over his face.

"No. Or well, I don't know. You telling me this was the only case you have?"

"Only one this bad, yeah. I got a few other heads who are sick, but nothing as terrible as this. Just a few colds here and there, and at least one with pneumonia I believe but nothing sharing all the symptoms this one has." The man explained, gesturing towards the swollen hooves and excessive drooling.

"Hmm. Well keep an eye on it, and report anything you find directly to me. We can bring it up to the union if need be, but I don't want to seem like we're blowing things out of proportion. If word gets out that a bluetongue outbreak has kicked off, then good luck being able to sell these anywhere within Huaxia, let alone the world. You're lucky you sheared them before, should at least tide you over until we get a better understanding of what is going on." He explained while standing up. "Should probably call out a vet as well, but that'll take some time."

The farmer only nodded, keeping his eyes focused on his sheep before sighing to himself. "Yeah, you're right. I'd like to avoid it if at all possible, you know how they can be. Union's fine with it and encourages it and all, but they scare the animals. I'd rather them be sick, not sick and scared if I can help it. A little cold never hurt anyone." He said, his last words sarcastic as he stared at his suffering stock. "I'll give him a call if any others show up like this, might just be a fluke and a combination of many different things. This one had a tendency to catch colds when it was young, so I never paid it much mind but if it spreads to anyone else I'll know somethings up."

With a few simple goodbyes the farmer's friend returned to his truck, taking a gaze at the flock of sheep that dotted the hills on the horizon. Sheared and enjoying their newfound freedom, it was concerning to think that an outbreak might be following short behind.

19th of June, 2020; Hauxia Republic

Reports of Yellowtongue as well as the official word coming from Ardia had done little to slow the flow of commerce within the Republic, spring had ended and summer was in full swing and many farmers throughout the country were eager to sell, trade, and export their recent products. To make matters worse, the news only escalated the situation; demand for wool, dairy, and other animal products increased rapidly in the day following the announcement and potential cases within Hauxia itself. Trade unions from around the nation were desperately trying to fill their quotas as well as prepare for any potential slack in production all while becoming more and more hesitant of potentially infected foreign goods. This fear itself would only continue to grow as more animals were reported dead and the farmers' union began to levy serious concern towards Congress.

20th of June, 2020; Hauxia Republic

Quote from: NATIONAL WATERFRONT UNION IMPLEMENTS INSPECTIONS
Effective on the 21st of June, 8:00AM HST the following changes will go into effect:

All livestock traveling to and from Huaxia will be subject to inspection by staff on site. Any livestock found to be contaminated shall be removed and transported to local veterinary hospitals. All livestock that had come into contact with infected product shall be quarantined immediately for the maximum of 7 days.

Domestic livestock bound for other domestic ports are exempt from this ruling so long as they provide proper identification.

Livestock being loaded onto rail are to have their rail cabins thoroughly cleaned and sanitized before another shipment can be made in order to prevent further contamination deeper into the country.

Contaminated cadavers are to be disposed of via burning of corpses on site.

Foreign ships entering Huaxia are to be informed at least 2 days before entering port of the change of protocol.

Susceptible species that are kept as pets are exempt from the changes above.

Congress of Trade
贸易大会

Following the news of Yellowtongue, Huaxia would like to exercise caution in foreign exports globally. While the effects at the moment are considered negligible, if unchecked livestock shipped overseas could only accelerate the potential economic and humanitarian impact. Huaxia itself is a large exporter of meat, dairy, and wool and relies on sufficient imports to keep its population fed. With a mortality rate reported by Ardia's ADC of 60-70% the possibility of a global outbreak must be avoided at all costs. The actions taken by the National Waterfront Union earlier this morning shall go into effect on the 21st of June, and while it would be unwise for Huaxia to suggest foreign policy for other nations beyond itself I can only speak for myself and my constituents from the Hauxian Farmers League in suggesting that other nations follow suite with stricter control on the export and import of livestock. As of now, I have been given permission to ship samples from Hauxian's own stock of infected animals to other agencies throughout the world that would wish to help the ADC in understanding and potentially developing a vaccine for this new virus.

Motto - Rather die as free men than be enslaved in peace
National Anthem - Road to Heping
Head of Government - President Liu Hai
Name of Legislative Body - Congress of Trade

SUMMARY

A developing nation on the coast of the Illumic and Mhorish Sea, Huaxia is a secondary power in the region. Consisting of 15 total provinces and one federal district, the Republic is one of the most populous nations in the world with a total population of around 498 million. The capital city is Jiangning and its most populous city is Heping. Nominally a Republic, the government derives its power from provincial level elections focusing primarily on direct democracy in the form of trade unions. The head of state is occupied by that of President Liu Hai who is elected from a congressional vote.

Situated on the Aryane continent and along the busiest sea lanes on Mundus, the area that is now Huaxia was often subject of colonial exploitation even during its early history. Its large population, combined with a history of competing local authorities lead to an era of political infighting. By the early 16th and 17th century, foreign powers began to incorporate coastal cities and territories into their own nations and by the 18th century large scale internal colonization had begun. By the 19th century, with the idea of a national identity beginning to grow alongside a cultural one, Huaxia gained autonomy before eventual independence in the mid 20th century marked by a series of union-led strikes, protests, and occasional armed insurrection. With an ideological cold war being waged and the new nation wary for its future, a policy of neutrality and isolation was adopted until the end of the century.

Government Type - Syndicalist Republic
Population - 498 Million
Capital City - Jiangning (14.8 Million)
Demonym - Huaxian

GOVERNMENT

At the highest level of governance, the Republic of Huaxia operates similarly to that of most republics. Elected representatives meet and discuss laws with a singular executive representing the nation internationally and acting as de jure head of government. Officials meet within the Congress of Trade on a monthly basis, and sessions can range anywhere from one week to the whole month with emergency sessions commonly being called if a decision cannot be made in a timely manner. Outside of the legislative and executive authorities, a judicial system known as the "People's Congress" is the ultimate authority for laws in the nation, challenging and reviewing legislation.

At the provincial level, nearly all politics are handled through direct democracy. Large sweeping changes to meet changing needs of a region are voted on by members of various unions province wide with a two-thirds majority required before any action is to be taken. Participation in the voting process, however, is strictly optional but the ability to vote is strictly relegated to those who belong to a Union specifically. The admittance of new unions, as well as those who constitute the union, are also subject to vote if the trade in question has less than 10,000 active workers. While on paper this type of engagement in local government would give citizens a substantial say in local politics, the sheer volume of votes and the amount of votes tend to filter the majority of voters away leaving only those with a vested interest in the topics at hand. Change tends to be slow, especially if there are no immediate benefits and most citizens only vote in nationwide elections to elect their representative or even more local and community driven projects where direct benefit can be felt.

PEOPLE OF NOTE

President Liu Hai

Elected as official representative in August of 2019, President Liu Hai is the 18th President of the Republic and the first to also represent the Union of Fine Arts. At the age of 63, Liu witnessed the ratification and structuring of the government in the early 1960's through the 1970's in the capital city of Jiangning. According to himself, his interest in politics grew out of his love for arts and finer crafts. Enjoying origami and smaller goods such as clay pots, animals, and other trinkets Liu tended to create entire sets and miniature displays to capture scenes. It was through this process, of many becoming one, that he eventually began to invest himself in politics, finding inspiration in the Congress itself and the beauty that can come from mutual cooperation and debate. Eventually elected as representative for his union, Liu Hai's political ambitions were quite low until the beginning of the early 2000's. A rapid shift in geopolitics combined with the increasing itch of globalization as the internet began to become a more common fixture, Liu saw an opportunity to push Huaxia towards greatness, and with it the syndicalist ideals it so championed.

MILITARY

Split into three branches, the National Guard, Air National Guard, and Coast Guard provide for the collective defense of the Republic of Huaxia. Collectively referred to as the Huaxian National Guard (Or "National Guard"), the forces operate officially on the behalf of the Congress of Trade. President Liu Hai oversees the guard as elected commander-and-chief with his powers being subject to that of congress and an alternative secretary of war able to be chosen in his place should he be deemed unworthy of command.

Due to the decentralized nature of the government, the National Guard participates in strictly domestic role with no foreign intervention haven taken place in the nations history. Limiting in nature, the National Guard itself maintains an extremely small amount of active personnel relying instead on local militias to maintain its duties. The Coast Guard, the largest of the three branches, operates only three blue water vessels capable with the vast majority of its surface fleet being modified commerce vessels or coastal patrol boats. This small size has lead to numerous operational deficiencies and logistical problems with the majority of National Guard operations being reduced to security for the capital Jiangning.

Making up the bulk of domestic forces, provincial militias operate outside the direct control of the Congress and instead to that of local leaders. While their equipment and training vary heavily from person to person, the culture of 'Homestead Defense' is widespread throughout the nation with nearly every province boasting a relatively large militia force. Arms trading, while technically illegal within the country itself, is done semi-officially through the Congress itself as it sources equipment for national defense. Despite this, equipment shortages are a common sight and training is well below that of many professional militaries on Mundus. In general, the military capabilities of Huaxia are among the worst in the world, with even its defense relying strictly on its relative political isolation.

I don't think the nativity would be too much of an issue. I think you arriving there around 1000 CE would be grounds for me to say that's about when the native Joseon people arrived. It actually works great that Quywe came about around the 14th century because that's about when the Vesian's began feudal society in earnest aside from the scattered pockets of tribal leadership and loose sense of identity among different pockets of Joseon tribes.

BC would mostly be fluff, maybe an explanation as to how these asiatics came in the first place? I can only imagine a natural migration following overpopulation in wherever we want to deem the 'home' of Asiatic cultures is. Once they started migrating as part of a natural process, many chose to simply not stop for generations until they reached the horn 'signifying' the end of their journey.

Working just before would actually be great not going to lie. It'd allow, at least personally, the lot of us to create a general atmosphere and political set up prior to their explosion to power. After all we need some sort of prerogative for Quywe to become the regional power house it was. Especially given the cultural diversity, I think it'd be best to map out right before the rise.

Celebration for the Poison Feast has begun!

As the fall draws ever nearer and the days become ever shorter, the people of Vesi prepare for the over century old tradition of partaking in the 'poison feast' of old. Between 1850-1869 the country erupted into minor civil wars between both peasants, dukedoms, and all manners of men. During this period, one famous account among the peasantry was the supposed Poison Feast held by a noble. Upon realizing his war of conquest would not sustain his treasury, he called for a temporary peace with his former enemies. As a show of his good will, he released various captives as well as sending gold in envoy's to help mend any wounds the war had caused the various families and peasants of his opposing lord. Pressured by the citizenry all while tempted to see the nature of his good will first hand, former enemies joined the noble as friends as they partook in a feast. Unknown to them, however, was the wine poisoned with a paralysis. The men who he had invited unto his home were forced to watch the very food they came to eat rot away as their own bodies withered and died; unable to move an inch and barely able to breathe.

While the historical accuracy of the accounts has long since been dismissed, the cultural impact had enormous ramifications for these chilling months. In the 1900's families began inviting guests to dinner 'reenacting' the spectacle. While not actually poisoned, the honored guests would feign paralysis and request to be fed by their hosts in an act of generosity. Following dinner the guests would partake in various exchanges of treats and 'wealth' to show their gratitude before returning home and preparing a feast for their former hosts as well.

At the beginning of October, the crown itself will hold a mock feast ceremoniously with the Prime Minister; of which Prime Minister Hung has been very vocal about attending following previous years events.

11
Ryu gave a nod to the other attendees his mind temporarily elsewhere as he pondered the King's own thoughts on rule, more importantly the role of a King in a modern society. He was only jarred out of his temporary daydream as the King began to talk about the document, putting aside his thoughts for later recollection.

"Well, pardon since I don't believe Vesi fully intends to sign the document so forgive me if this is out of line," Ryu warned apologetically, offering his thoughts on the matter, "I believe a few specifics would be good for every nation that signs the document. On the education side, I agree almost entirely however when we get into tariffs and promoting economic growth we have a few minor things to consider." Ryu began, quickly taking a sip from the tea the King had offered him moments earlier.

"Our economies, are vastly different from one another and as a result our markets are as well. Removing tariffs across the board seems as though it might negatively hurt a few of our economies as balance of payments comes into effect. Say... One of us is running a very fine line from entering a deficit and tariffs are resulting in an export surplus because of domestic production the removal of said tariffs could result in an economic loss for the country at large. Some smaller Vesian companies would be unable to compete on a market between our nations with the removal of certain tariffs, particularly our food sector. Theoretically if we chose to sign, we'd have to redirect our efforts to make sure the eventual job loss to foreign imports can be subsidized as we retool them for different sectors." Ryu explained, hoping he wasn't coming across as rambling or worse: incoherent.

"That is not to say the benefits don't exist of course, I'm positive it'll result in an economic positive but the effects should come into effect at a specific time after signing so signatories have time to prepare and we all have a better timeline of when everything will go into effect."

Annual blood drive underway!

Starting this week the annual blood drive is underway, sponsored heavily by the crown and the Department of Health. Vesian hospitals rely heavily on the donations people give on a day to day basis, however those generous and kind souls are almost never able to meet demand so every year the country holds an annual drive to better stock hospitals and to spread awareness of diseases such as HIV. This year, the crown intends to participate heavily granting blood tests to every 1/100 donators free of charge to determine whether or not they belong to the Mangjul bloodline. Depending on the percentage, a few lucky donators could very well be in line for succession and win all the privileges granted by such an honorary status.

Vesian history is, unfortunately, not properly understood when it comes to the line of succession. A flirt with a republic along with various civil wars that stain our past tons of documentation alluding to the Mangjul dynasty and other royal families have been lost to the ages. While citizens are free to test their blood out of their own pocket in hopes of being realized by the royal family, there is great effort by the crown to find and document all those who do carry the blood of royalty to properly finish the long and seemingly endless family tree.

The couple had temporarily co-opeted the use of the binoculars to do a little sight seeing of various ships that they could see peering over the rails. A few days earlier and the interest in said vessels would be non-existent aside from military matters but, as the saying goes, when in Moreland do as the Morelanders do. Their adventure into the harbor was quickly interrupted though as one by one, new delegates flooded their way towards where Edward had previously sat them and then Ahkabnil delegations. The first of which was Cantabria, the King of Cantabria none the less, being seemingly dragged against his will it would appear to the delegation. There was a humor to the sight, one of which Mina took great pleasure in, laughing lightly to herself as Cait introduced themselves.

"It's a pleasure to meet the both of you," Mina spoke first, stealing Hung's thunder having taken inspiration from Cait, "Most importantly your highness." Her eyes darted to the King, bowing her head from her seated position as her husband followed suit.

"Mr. Du Ho, Hung Du Ho from the Principality of Vesi, it's a pleasure to meet you on such a fine evening." Hung spoke. While he did not know it, the King and himself were surprisingly similar in regards to their socialization skills. While Hung did not lack them, persay, he was very poor at communicating it to strangers and even poorer still to communicate it with anyone who happened to not be his wife. Politics, however, he could do. Luckily, with a bit of encouragement from his wife and a few drinks he snuck before the wedding he was much more sociable than they'd be lead to believe.

"Believe us, we're as much confused as you are. Mr. Edward; I'm sorry I'm afraid I missed your last name," Mina spoke apologetically, "As I was saying, Mr. Edward here has been kind enough to at least give us the run down. He's been quite the host despite being in the dark as the rest of us. Though, I can hardly blame him the surprise wedding is quite the... surprise it would seem."

As the group chattered on with introductions and small talk, it was the Cascadians who entertained their company next.

"Premier, it's great to finally meet you. Welcome to our little corner of the world." Mr. Hung opened up with a smile, offering a hand to Minerva as he nodded at James. Mina offered a small wave to Millicent. "This here is Edward, I, or well my wife, was just explaining to Cantabria that he's our makeshift host for the evening." he stated, offering a glance at the man.

As the group was beginning to enjoy Edward's cultural enrichment a lady's boisterous voice suddenly stole their attention. The added confusion of the sudden interruption along with Edward's cultural teachings was quite a lot to take in for Hung, Mina however was too busy trying to entertain Millicent whenever the girl ventured far enough from her mother. The woman's preaching however was falling on deaf ears for the most part as those not versed in Helus culture and sects failed to properly see the issue, Hung himself was rather confused but sympathetic to the anti-commoner stance at least in a very vague and unrelated way. Too many problems sourcing true heirs to the Principality outside of the Mangjul main family itself. A sigh escaped his lips as she spoke; he had half a mind to speak himself but it seems Millicent beat him to it. A short snort escaped his mouth as he tried his best not to look like a fool as her parents disciplined her properly.

"I don't mean to pry Edward, but I take it East Moreland has more than pretenders and Boreland terrorists to deal with? I hope the best with these domestic quarrels, Vesi's got her own fair share and I can sympathize."

Wishes from the Crown

Following the surprise marriage of Alex Redferne to Freya Kara Ironside at the Festival of Sail this week, the crown has issues a statement regarding the marriage of the young couple, of which the Prime Minister Hung Du Ho and his wife were able to attend:

Quote from: Princess Cho'e Sun-Young Mangjul
Words cannot express the pure joy and euphoria the couple must be experiencing following their eternal bonding, yet I feel it is important nonetheless to offer my own words as both Royalty myself and to better express our feelings as a nation that you would be kind enough to host our Prime Minister at the wedding. With that being said, I do wish to thank your nation, East Moreland and her people for hosting the wonderful Festival of Sail. While I have not attended it in the past, I wish to be able to attend it in earnest next year. I'm certain every bit of praise Mr. Ho has offered is well earned but it is a necessity that I see it myself and enjoy the full effect of naval history and pride on show.

Secondly, I wish the best of luck to the new couple. Love, in all its forms, is something not given lightly nor is it taken away so easily. I hope following your honeymoon, if there is one, that the two of you can fully and truly enjoy the fruits of marriage and all the benefits of life together. Life in the public eye is a rather stressful ordeal, and it will be more than ever for the next few weeks. I hope you take solace in each others company as well as any privacy you can afford. Given Freya's public history however, I'm certain she's more than capable of taking care of not only herself, but the groom as well.

Best regards,
Cho'e Sun-Young Mangjul

Prime Minister Hung Du Ho and his wife were unavailable for their own comments at this time, however, and it is by request from the crown that we hold off on publishing any stories regarding the new couple for at least a couple of weeks to ensure they have time to adapt to their new life together.

The introduction of Quinn happened to catch the Prime Minister off guard as she spoke, bowing his head ever so slightly in greetings. He'd have gotten a word in if she didn't seem so eager to to carry on with her various tasks. Luckily the poor woman was saved as a voice called for her dismissal as Edward took over for her. Hung was quick to raise his hand to meet the foreign minister's as they exchanged introductions.

"Pleasure to meet you as well Edward--" He quickly tilted his head in the direction of his wife.

"Mina." She said, a small bow following as she spoke.

"The festival is fantastic," Hung started, "I'll be honest Edward's I was a bit apprehensive about visiting myself, I had skipped it a few years prior due to personal business but my time here has been quite enjoyable. I never thought I'd learn so much about boats in my life." He chuckled slightly, his wife giving him a rather surprised look at his forward approach. Had he snuck a drink while she wasn't looking...? "The surprise wedding only added to the occasion, though I would request you give us a bit more time to prepare in the future." he joked, waving off his suggestion. The sight of Anasi was a surprise though, Hung had never directly spoken with the man but his face was all to familiar to anyone high enough up in the Vesian government. The surprise was short lived as the group was herded towards a couple of seats.

"Then I suppose it's an event for the lot of us, no?" He smiled, the excitement was somewhat visible on Edward's face, his comment about romance struck a cord with his wife as well. A few moments passed as the crowd began to cheer before they got their binoculars. Letting his wife have first go, Mina peered through the spectacles.

"I hope she's not too worried about the dress, she's pulling it off spectacularly." Mina commented passing the binoculars to her husband for a few seconds.

"I can assure you sir, the pleasure is all mine." A man quickly responded, lifting himself out of the back of his vehicle and extending a palm to meet the King's. "Ryu Sung-Hoon, National Assembly Trade Representative for the Principality of Vesi." The man introduced himself. At a glance he appeared no younger than 30, his face clean cut and his suit perfectly fitted to his forum. Despite the air of professionalism his handshake and greeting were more than formal as he took genuine pleasure in meeting David. While he wouldn't admit it, he was expecting to meet an equivalent to his position and to find someone at a much, MUCH, higher position of authority unnerved and excited him quite a bit.

The man hesitated a bit before speaking again, his initial posture and attitude cracking for a moment as he did. "I must admit, I was not expecting to actually meet with your highness. I hope that does not offend, back in Vesi a meeting with the royal family is a rarer occasion but more often than not we tend to meet a representative selected by them in their stead. I suppose I should make note to the National Assembly to send someone of a higher status next time. Forgive me." Ryu spoke, his accent become much more noticeable the longer he did. Teeing off his sentence with a bow he was careful not to overstay his welcome and remain cordial.

"Then I suppose we're holding the meeting within the Palace itself?"

Quote from: Letter formally approved by the National Assembly
To whom it may concern,

Following review of King David III's invitation, the Principality of Vesi would like to request observer status in the conference. While not having a port on the Mhorish sea or in the Illumic channel, trade coming to and from those regions are an important part of our economy and that of the Horn of Ardia. While we do not intend to fully engage in discussion, we would like to send a delegation to listen in on the proposals put forth by the nations intending to join this agreement.

Please consider our request,
Prime Minister Hung Du Ho

Hung Du Ho downed the last bit of wine he had been enjoying while he toured the harbor with a few security personnel. Social events weren't his particular field of expertise, he wasn't particularly good at them nor did he enjoy them. Politics were more his speed, and while the festival of sail was rather heavily centered around the social atmosphere for many, it offered a unique take on politics he hadn't properly thought of before. In years past he failed to attend the festival, in part due to a rather hectic schedule thanks to trouble back home, but also a lack of interest until recently. What was there not to enjoy in the prospect of catching a representative of a foreign power with their pants down? Tabloids have long since desensitized him about the happenings around the world, but to see it with his own eyes seemed like fun enough. Plus, it allowed for a genuine attempt at making a proper friend in the world outside of Vesi which couldn't hurt. At least no more than his wife's gaze would should he fail to even try.

His thoughts were partially scrambled, both as a result of a nice buzz he had been coaching and the sheer variety of ships he'd come to pass in the past few hours. He wasn't much of a sailor, in fact he can't recall a time he'd actually ever been on a boat aside from a ceremonial address a year prior. It wasn't until he started touring and learning some histories that a genuine interest started to form, particularly in how cultures so distant from one another could produce such similar yet entirely unique designs all on their own. Alas, these thoughts were interrupted as a member of staff caught his attention.

"Mr. Hung, I hope you're enjoying yourself." the man spoke, his tone genuine as he held a tablet to his chest.

"Far more than I thought I would have if I'm being honest." a sly smile crossed his face. His face was slightly flushed, and if that wasn't a give away the empty glass of wine helped point towards his slowly diminishing state of mind. A simple chuckle escaped the staff members mouth.

"I've spoken with a few locals about points of interest, there's a few ships from the Rokkenjiman delegation that are quite unique. After that some Nordic designs, and various Albion entries as well. If nothing comes up I'm certain we could plan around them if you're interested." the man asked, quickly cycling through his tablet to show various pictures of the ships in question. The prospect was interesting to Hung, and he nodded his head in approval as the man quickly answered a call.

"Oooh," the man mused with interest, turning back towards the Prime Minister, "how about a wedding? Rather impromptu I know, but a few of our organizers just got emails inviting us to attend."

"A wedding?" Hung said surprised, "I suppose I wouldn't be against the idea. Go over the idea with my wife, and see about fetching proper attire for the two of us." he turned quickly to his right passing the wine glass off to a security guard before retrieving his phone.

The couple, dressed to the best of their ability on such short notice, quickly traversed a small route and ascended a gangplank that had been set up moments ago for their arrival. Wedding ceremonies for East Moreland were completely foreign to Mina, Hung's wife, and while he understood a few basics he was almost as completely lost as her. The couple getting married however were all to known to Hung, at least impersonally. The life of politics tended to result in such situations, where the guests (or in this case soon to be newlyweds) were known purely from news or indirect contact via layers upon layers of third parties. While he couldn't exactly fit in as anyone they'd easily identify, he hoped his presence wasn't too out of place and guessing by the grip of his wife's hand she shared his sentiment.

"I hope we're dressed well enough, I knew we should've came better prepared. Oh but no, you insisted that it'd be a standard affair and we wouldn't need to be entirely formal!" Mina poked at him, there was a hint of seriousness in her voice but it was easily overtaken by her joking prods.

"Hey, how was I supposed to know?! You can't blame me for this! Take it up with with the bride and groom, they arranged it!" He whispered back, a soft chuckle escaped his lips as he took in the scenery. For as impromptu as it was, it was quite a sight. Given East Morlands outstanding military record, getting married aboard such a ship must be a rather humbling experience. A soft chuckle escaped his lips as he thought back to his wedding, all the weeks of planning, the constant headache of making sure the funds were all properly allocated only for half the guests to not show thanks to an unexpected storm. Nothing nearly as fanciful, but entirely its own experience of which he wouldn't trade for the world. A somber expression passed over his face for a few moments as he looked on. As joyous as it was, he couldn't help but feel a little depressed about the entire affair. This kind of excitement is rare, and it's something he has unfortunately neglected for a large part of his life.

A chuckle escaped his lips as he stopped whispering for a moment. "I'm going to quickly scout out if there's any drinks around, want anything?" he asked barely waiting for an answer. Mina simply shook her head before he wandered off.
