Trivia

-All foreign monarchs are referred to with feminine titles in Xæthoon and their consorts are referred to with masculine titles regardless of the individuals actual gender. This is on account of the feminine titles in Xæthoon referring explicitly to ruling monarchs, whereas the masculine titles refer only to a ruler's consort.

-The Most Serene and Celestial Empress of Xæth is the only monarch on Mundus referred to with the highest-ranking title in the Xæthoon language. Xæth's Empress' Xæthoon title translates directly to "Queen of Queens", whereas all foreign monarchs are referred to with a title that translates into "High Queen".

-The name of the Thælyr tribe (which lends it's name to the Kingdom of Thælyrn and through that the Imperial House xy Thælyrn) derives its name from "Thæla Lyrr", which roughly translates to "Demon Child". This name comes from the tribe's founding legend, in which one of the Goddess Allaxara's demi-god daughters outwitted, defeated, raped, and killed a six-armed, city-destroying demon. The children she would give birth to would be the first of the Thælyr tribe.

-In terms of body modification, Xæth has one of the highest rates of scarification. There are some parts of Xæth where scarification is just as common, if not more common, than simple tattooing.

-In the past, many of the old coastal Queendoms of Xæth would give their younger daughters ships to captain as pirates in the service of the crown. The practice slowly fell out of favour as more and more of these younger Princesses realized they could use their ships, experience, and wealth to usurp the crowns of their elder sisters.

-The honey badgers which East Moreland so adores are actually descended from a species native to Xæth, given as a gift to a visiting King of East Moreland by the Empress of Xæth centuries ago.

History

The origins of the Xæthoon people are vague, what is known is that prior to their migration into Xæth they lived as nomads to the north. They migrated into Xæth around the 6th century, in the chaos of the fallen Noniam Empire. Numerous tribes migrated into the region, establishing the earliest Xæthoon Queendoms through various means. Some served as mercenaries before betraying their employers, others were invited in by the people to protect them in the wartorn land, and others put down roots through simple conquest. The native peoples, the Nonians, in some instances attempted to resist the invaders but in the end to no avail. The fertile river basins in the west were the first to fall, with the remaining Nonian sovereignties being relegated to the hilly jungles in the east. But even there there would be no protection from the Xæthoons, who would slowly expand eastwards. By the middle of the 8th century there were no sovereign Nonian rulers remaining in Xæth. The Nonians were not driven to extinction or exile, however. Many of the Nonians were assimilated into Xæthoon culture and all Xæthoons today carry some measure of Nonian ancestry, though to this day there remains a few million people who dwell in the hills of Western Xæth who hold to a culture descended from that of the Nonians. It is not purely Nonian, but neither is Xæthoon culture pure; both cultures have had influence upon each other in their centuries of cohabitation. A similar series of events would take place with the settling of the isle of Jalyl starting around the 9th century by Xæthoon pirates and adventurers. However, the natives of Jalyl would end up entirely subsumed into the Xæthoon culture of the isle.

Various Queendoms rose and fell in the centuries from the Xæthoon migrations to the reign of Empress Ælirn the Conqueror. By the time of her birth, the mainland south of the mountains had been more or less split into four major Queendoms: those of Thælyrn, Ynith, Oova, and Maashirn. Ynith was a maritime power stretching along the coast and that had taken Thælyrn's only coastal territory a generation prior. Oova was a Queendom in decline, with a sisterless child for a Queen, while Maashirn was a former vassal of Oova on a meteoric rise. Thælyrn was a Queendom freshly defeated, but still far from broken. Ælirn was not born with ambitions of uniting the Xæthoon people and forging an Empire through conquest, in fact it was an opportunity that fell into her lap. She had a connection to the child Queen of Oova through a marriage to one of her Uncles, a situation which proved advantageous when the child Queen died. Oova began to fall into chaos, and Maashirn was more than happy to take advantage of this fact to mount yet another invasion, hoping to finish the conquest of their former lord and master. Much of eastern Oova had fell when Ælirn received an offer from a group of Oovoon noblewomen: defeat the Maashir and we will name you Queen of Oova. Ælirn agreed. What followed was the first conflict in the Wars of Unification; the war lasted several long years and with numerous casualties on both sides. But eventually Thælyrn prevailed, and when Ælirn sacked the capital she had the Queen and all her female relatives flayed alive and took all the men as her husbands. Then she had herself crowned Queen of both Oova and Maashirn before returning to Jiloola. But the period of peace would not last, as Ynith went to war with Thælyrn once again. In what would be known as the Bitter War, Ælirn's army scored several impressive victories but in the end were forced to pay tribute to Ynith. Ynith would be weakened from a plague believed to have been brought back by soldiers in the Bitter War that flourished in the populated coastal cities of Ynith, and so when they went to war several years later Thælyrn prevailed and reclaimed portions of its coastline. And another war later Ynith was reduced to a client state of Thælyrn. However, Ælirn would not be crowned Queen of Ynith until several years and one failed Ynithoon rebellion later. Ælirn's rule as a Queen with Four Crowns would not be without its troubles and but Ælirn did take steps to prevent such things by having all of the noble families give up hostages to be raised in Jiloola as well present a man for Ælirn to take to husband.

Diplomacy and Events / Re: A Tale Of Two Empress'

"You know, our Aunts say exactly that. One of the few things the two of them actually agree on," Ælirn said with a quiet chuckle, "But even so, we still like children. We'll have them one day, but, well... Anyway. To business!"

"We do have a little something prepared. Believe me, if we hadn't then whatever we said would be a rambling mess," the young Empress sighs, "We're not the best public speaker. But is there anything we should know? What exactly are they expecting? Is there anything we should be expecting?"

Ælirn clutched her coat closer to her body as a chill struck her just as Beatrice's words about the wind left her mouth. With a nod and chatter of teeth Ælirn nodded, "Yes, please. Winter is lovely, but we don't need to be out in it." She quickly followed Beatrice inside, removing her coat once they had reached their destination. Although it had been there for months this was liable to be the first time Beatrice had, in person, set eyes on the design carved into young Ælirn's stomach. Like much of the iconography associated with Xæth it was heavy on the serpent and sun imagery, with the centerpiece being a great sun located right above Ælirn's navel.

Ælirn sat down, rubbing her hands as she looked out over the food. "Usually the only time we get to see winter up close is when we visit our sister-in-law. It's... peaceful," she said, picking up small sandwich to start, "And we appreciate the thought. Although we do have to admit that it would have been nice to meet your husband, and we do not really mind children if we are to be honest."

"Well, I mean, it's... I just know it was, is! Is an important place to them," Ælirn said, the words not coming out as she would've liked. And at Henrietta's offer, Ælirn grinned and opened her mouth to speak, only to quickly shut it again as she was slapped in the face by a realization. Xæth's Prime Minister. As far as Ælirn was concerned, there was no other candidate for the job but her Aunt Llyri. Llyri had been Prime Minister for most of her mother's reign; she was competent and experienced. Sure, Llyri was something of a xenophobe who put Xæth first and other nations never but Ælirn believed she could trust her Aunt to run the country properly. After all, it was the Empress who gave direction to the nation while the Prime Minister put everything into action. And Llyri had been vocally opposed to the presence of foreigners at the Enthronement, at least in private, but she had relented to Ælirn's wishes. But a social visit to East Moreland? Truth be told, even if Llyri was on her best behavior Ælirn worried that would make things worse. But if the Maori were to be sending somebody important, then Xæth would have to send somebody important, wouldn't they? Otherwise it might be an insult. But then again, officially it was just a friendly visit not any kind of official meeting between the Maori and Xæthoons.

Then Ælirn came to the realization that she had perhaps been sitting there utterly silent for too long whilst her thoughts and concerns ran amok in her head. "Something like that sounds like it would be a wonderful start. But I will sort of have to kind of talk and sort things out with my Aunt beforehand though," the words perhaps spilling out of her mouth faster than they should have in an attempt to fill the silence.

Xæth Condemns Self-Proclaimed Soviet Republic of Kaitaine Over Seitch Chemical Incident

A few days ago the self-proclaimed Soviet Republic of Kaitaine released massive quantities of the chemical Endosulfan into the air around the area of Bene Gesserit occupied Seitch in an "environmental cleansing" effort. The Most Serene and Celestial Empire of Xæth has never taken sides in the Kaitaine Civil War; neither the self-proclaimed Soviet Republic of Kaitaine and the self-proclaimed Theocracy of Kaitaine have ever been accepted as the rightful government of Kaitaine, and Xæth has been unwilling to make comments on the war raging in Kaitaine. However, the Throne has condemned the recent incident perpetrated by the self-proclaimed Soviet Republic stating that while "there is not enough information to decisively label the incident as a chemical attack, it is at best a grossly irresponsible action". The health risks that might be associated with the airdropping of, in the self-proclaimed Soviet Republic's words, "a massive amount" of endosulfan in an uncontrolled environment near a city are unacceptable. Endosulfan and its byproducts have the ability to last for years in the environment before degrading, and can travel immense distances from their point of origin, and most studies regarding its harmful effects are based on agricultural usage as opposed to directly applying them to inhabited areas. In addition there is no way for the chemicals to discriminate between the worms and various other species in the region around Seitch, so one can only wonder at the damage this 'environmental cleansing' will have on the environment. In the words of Her Imperial Majesty Ælirn XIX, "those pointing out that endosulfan is not the most toxic of chemicals should make certain not to forgot that it is still a toxic chemical. One that was dropped near a city, with no controls in place to protect its citizens from exposure". However, as mentioned prior, until a proper investigation has been undertaken the Throne shall not go so far as to refer to the incident as a chemical attack.

Millennia-old Ruin Believed to be a Mosque discovered in Eastern Xæth

Archaelogists studying the ruins of a settlement in Eastern Xæth have come across a startling discovery; one of the structures unearthed is now believed to have functioned as a mosque. This serves an a massive upset among Xæthoon historians as this would serve as the first physical evidence of Islam's presence in Xæth. The only evidence prior to this was fragmented scraps of a legend in which a Muslim king demanded that the Queens of the Aava Confederation "accept the Words of the Prophet and become his wives, else they shall become his concubines", a story which ended with the Queens sacking his city and having the men of his family castrated and made into their own concubines. Because of the total lack of evidence of any major Islamic presence in Xæth, historians have long considered the tale to be a mere myth or parable with little to no historic basis. But the structure in question carries many hallmarks of a mosuqe; although built in a style more reminiscent of late Noniam architecture, the structure is oriented in the general direction of Mecca, it carries no images of human figures which are common in both the temples of the Xæthoon pantheon and Solar Christianity, and most tellingly there are intricate carvings and inscriptions that were recently realized to be the Shahada. The mosque itself was a curiousity even before the discovery of its purpose, as it dates to the 9th-10th century which is several centuries after the rest of the somewhat preserved structures in the settlement. Despite the obvious importance of the discovery, some historians have begun to propose that this might prove evidence of independent proto-Noonyan or even outright Noniam polities long after the native peoples of the region were believed to have been conquered by Xæthoons,

Diplomacy and Events / Re: Two Weddings No Funerals

"Well then, I must say it is an honour to be speaking to somebody as blessed as you are," Allan told Anfisa, a playful smile on his face, "But that reminds a bit of Xæthoon women. On special occasions even the poorest of women will bring out enough jewelry to drown a man. Just take a look at my niece; the only difference between her and a common woman is that her jewelry is a bit more expensive." By now Allan had noticed Ælirn and Genadi having made their way to the Xæthoon booth, and he chuckled as he shook his head. He was sure they were both enjoying themselves, although he was absolutely certain that his niece didn't understand the politicking going on.

"But I agree, there's nothing I prefer more than peace. Only fools prefer the alternative, I say," he said with a grin, then sighed, "But a wife... I do have to admit that I'm not certain that I am quite ready to settle down as it but I must say that that sounds quite enjoyable. I may love Xæth with all my heart, but I have no doubt I could get used to Lodja."

------

"Oh, no. No, not at all," Ælirn said quickly, shaking her head, "We don't drink. Just some water would be fine, thank you."

Ælirn listened intently and not once did she think about what being seen speaking privately with an Empress would do for Genadi's social standing. She wasn't totally blind, of course, but those sort of thoughts were not what was on her mind at the moment. "It sounds quite different from our life. We've known we were going to be Empress since we were a child, but our mother was always kind. She never forced things on us, she..." Ælirn cut herself off as it clicked in her brain that talking about her deceased mother wa not where she wanted this conversation to go, "But, racing cars? Really? Since our trip to East Moreland we've become rather interested in Formula Mundus ourself; it's so exciting! But... Why not do it anyway? Does it matter what everyone else thinks?" She knew that her saying so was perhaps a bit hypocritical as she often worried immensely about what others thought, but that wasn't something she could control and rationally knew that it didn't matter.

Though when Genadi referred to her as 'charming', she couldn't help but blush a little. "Oh no, no we're not that charming," she said, nervously laughing it off, "But, yes. To, yeah." She softly toasted Genadi and took a drink of her own.

"Oh, our mother was fond of beer too," Ælirn said, kicking herself again and thankful that Genadi had asked another question, "Oh, of course! My Uncle and us are looking forward to it! Today was wonderful, and I'm sure that tomorrow will be too."

------

However, unfortunately for the Xæthoon pair the night could not last forever and they eventually were forced to make their way to the rooms they had been offered on the Isle. However Ælirn had something she wished to go beforehand, telling her Uncle to make his way there without here. Ælirn did her best to quickly find Alla Kohut, hoping she was still present. Thankfully it didn't take long and when Ælirn offered to give a gift to Sessifet as was traditional for visiting Xæthoon Empresses, the High Priestess was more than happy to oblige. It wasn't a particularly large gift, but it was still beautiful nonetheless: it was a chunk of solid opal, carved into an intricate depiction of the goddess Sessifet. The High Priestess thanks the young Empress, and when she offered a short blessing Ælirn was more than happy to accept before she made her way off to her room.

She awoke early the next morning, groaning as she got out of bed. She hadn't got the best night's sleep; she often had trouble sleeping in unfamiliar places, but she was far from exhausted so it was unlikely to prove to be a problem. Her Uncle, on the other hand, hadn't yet awoken when his niece arrived to collect him. And so she ended up having to spend several minutes out in the hall while he got dressed. As both were from a tropical land and the day's festivities were on the street in the winter, the pair of them were both wearing their fur coats as they went on their way, chatting as they did so.

"Princess Anfisa isn't going to be making her way out of your room, is she?" Ælirn asked, deadpan.

"Well, first of all my dearest niece she is Priestess Anfisa. And no, I haven't seen her since last night."

"So she left in the middle of the night, got it."

"I didn't sleep with anyone. And why are you so interested in your Uncle's sex life?" Allan said raising an eyebrow, "It's a little weird, Ælirn."

"We... We're not! We were just making a joke! Don't make it weird Allan."

"It's a weird topic."

Ælirn just scoffed and rolled her eyes while her Uncle laughed as the two walked onwards, ready to start the day.

101
While Matt was busy radioing the team, Ælirn was on her phone letting her Aunt know where she was headed. She even asked Kallax if she perhaps wanted to join them, however she was busy speaking to people at the Expo and so politely declined. Ælirn was mostly silent on the way over, giving Ryan Toller a polite nod. "Good afternoon Mr. Toller," she said, waiting patiently for them to receive her suit. She quickly took it and followed the woman to where she could change, doing her best to put the suit on. Ælirn probably did need some help with the suit, but she refused to ask a stranger to help her get dressed so she took longer than she probably should have out of stubbornness and embarrassment. She did eventually get it on and, after making certain she had managed to get it on properly, made her way back over to the team.

The Empress quietly and quickly followed any directions she was given as she made her way into the car. She had a little trouble putting the helmet on, but it didn't take an absurd length of time. Once she got it on she looked around, enjoying the strangeness of the weight of it sitting on her head. She had no trouble hearing Matt when he spoke, although she wasn't expecting it and jumped in surprise before managing to actually answer back. "I imagine it is," she said to Matt in regards to his comment on the rides fun, then settled in and waited for it to start.

And when it did, she screamed. Not so much in fear as in surprise and excitement. The ride was absolutely exhilarating, and unlike anything Ælirn had ever done before. And in her excitement she was unable to shut up, although it was nothing that Matt could understand as she had slipped back into her native tongue. So much so that when she finally wanted to stop, she had to ask twice as the first time she accidentally said so in Xæthoon. And when they finally did stop and she was helped out of the car she had to prop herself up against the car or whatever else was available; she had perhaps stayed longer than she should have as her legs were jelly and her stomach felt twisted. But she had enjoyed herself and she hadn't wanted to stop.

"We... We would love to take a picture. Once our legs work again, please," Ælirn said with a wary smile, "And we are sure that Xæth would very much fancy that."

Ælirn was excited for today's events; she'd been looking forward to her visit to Rokkenjima every since planning had begun. Not only was she quite fond of Empress Beatrice following her first meeting with her, but Ælirn viewed the Friendship Treaty with Rokkenjima as her first real accomplishment as Xæth's Empress and the first real step to changing her nation's foreign policy for the better. Of course she could still feel her anxiety resting heavily in the pit of her stomach, but when she stepped off the helicopter at Pyrena Castle she was smiling.

Dressed in a long fur coat on account of Rokkenjima's chilly and snowy weather, her grin widens when she say Empress Beatrice. "Empress Beatrice, it's so nice to see you again," she said happily, giving her fellow monarch a quick and polite nod, "I can't wait to see more Rokkenjima; your country looks quite lovely!"

103
"Unfortunately, we think it would be better for us not to sign any agreements. The National Assembly has to ratify any treaties in Xæth and we don't think something like this would be appropriate for the first Imperial Edict of my reign," Ælirn said, giving King David an apologetic smile, "But we're sure it'll go through without any problems, and we'd be happy to sign it once it has been accepted."

"Motor sports?" Ælirn said, following David out into the main chamber, "We can't really say we're a big fan, why?"

Adam Toller received a polite nod from Ælirn, "It is a pleasure to make your acquaintance."

"But, what? Two-seater?" she asked, then as King David spoke her eyes opened wide, "Wait, car racing? Like, a racecar?" Excitement was plain to her in her voice as she spoke, despite not being a major fan of motor sports a racecar ride was still not an opportunity that came around everyday. "Oh, well we would be delighted to!"

By this point the pair has reached the room Ælirn had set aside for the conversation, and the Princess waits until they have both taken their seats to continue the conversation. "Well we do recognize that the Iwi in Maryrn exist, but some of them have been rather... uncooperative? No, no, no, no, no... Unwilling to compromise? Errrr," Ælirn seems like she's struggling to figure out exactly what she wants to say, before shaking her head and giving up, "One of the big problems is one of the Maori holy sites in Maryrn. Which a previous Empress built one of the largest temple complexes on top of, including the largest Sun Temple in all of Xæth."

"But rugby? Ummm, no opinion really," she says with a small smile, "I'm not really much one for sports."

"Well..." Ælirn says, spending a very long moment silent and in thought, "I would be more than happy to talk things out and work on relations with the Iwi. After all the Xæthoons of the past were in the wrong; between the enslavement, Xæthoon settlement, expulsions, expropriation of land, and just general oppression. It wasn't even a hundred years ago that Maryrn was legally a part of Xæth instead of a colony and the official Xæthoon word for the Maori was changed to 'Mary' as opposed to... Well something very, very racist."

Then she forces a smile, "But I do want to work on improving relations with the Iwi! I have some ideas for Maryrn itself, although the Mary Iwis' land ownership is still an issue with no easy solution... But I would be very appreciative if East Moreland could serve as a sort of middleman."

Xæth to Provide Aid to Royal Seleucid

As her Imperial Majesty Ælirn XIX had mentioned last month, the Most Serene and Celestial Empire of Xæth had plans in development to provide aid to Royal Seleucid. Today, she was proud to announce that "today there is no more discussions and no more planning; within only a scant few hours the first Xæthoon ships laden with food will be departing for the Celtic Protectorate, so that their bounty might be districuted across the whole of the famine-stricken nation. We hope only that as many Seleucids are able to survive and even thrive as possible, despite the ongoing crisis. The hearts of the Xæthoon people are with those of Royal Seleucid." The Throne has been quiet on the issue of the recent ascension of Prince Heydar to the Throne of Royal Seleucid, and it is expected that it shall have no effect on the sending of aid to the nation.

However in addition to the foreign aid sent to Royal Seleucid, the Throne has made official statements that despite the lack of a Tamoran diplomatic mission in Xæth to officially petition them, that some of the sanctions upon Tamora will be lifted. Citing concerns over the 'deteriorating conditions of the food supply in Tamora' any and all trade sanctions in regards to foodstuffs with Tamora have officially been lifted until December 31st, 2019. The possibility of foreign aid has been brought up, however at this point there are no official statements in regard to such matters regarding Tamora.

* Note on Xæthoon regnal numbering - During the consolidation of Xæth into a singular Empire, one of the points of discussion was how the Empresses would be numbered. Some wished for numbers to begin anew as the Empire was a unique political entity in Xæthoon history, whist others wished for it to continue off from regnal numbering of the queendoms. Which lead to the further argument of which queens would count. Ælirn the Unifier compromised and chose to count every Queen who had ever ruled one of the four Queendoms leading to the inflated regnal numbers of the Most Serene and Celestial Empresses of Xæth.

** Note on early Xæthoon Empresses - The first four of the Most Serene and Celestial Empresses (Ælirn IX, Næxyn V, Zaxaal II, and Tylinæ IV) were never styled as such during their lifetimes, instead Ynith, Thælyrn, Oova, and Maashirn were all ruled as separate Queendoms in which the Queens were all the same individual. But when Ælirn the Unifier consolidated the Queendoms into the singular Empire, she posthumously declared her predecessors as Empresses beginning with Ælirn the Conqueror.

So, like I mentioned on the Discord yesterday, I'd be interested in Xæth having taken some Attican refugees after the invasion. Probably a sizable chunk of them, considering the lose proximity of Xæth to Attica as well. So I imagine there being a few hundred thousand Atticans living in modern-day Xæth (constituting the fourth-largest ethnic group in Xæth). I know you mentioned that with ES being changed to having been a city-state that it's involvement isn't as prevalent, but by how much? Asking because Xæth would've been willing to have provided political asylum to the fleet as the Empress at the time was more interested in foreign affairs, but I'm unsure how much you want to change from what's established.

Allan listened to Anfisa explanation with interest, more so the answer as to why she became a priestess and less why East Moreland was chosen. If he was to be honest, international politics wasn't something that he was particularly interested in himself. And her explanation sort of echoed his own eventual fate; of course unlike her he'd eventually welcome such a fate. "Well you're far more ambitious than I, I must say," he said with a smile, "I am merely waiting to find a woman who catches my fancy as much as I catch hers."

Though at her questions about Xæth, he paused for a moment as he pursed his lips in thought. "Religiously liberal? That's a bit complicated, I have to say," he said as he tried to figure out how to phrase his next words, as he was hardly a religious man, "I'm not expert, but we're not like those Christians and the like. You ask a religious Xæthoon if they believe in Sessifet or Helus or even Jesus, and they're going to say 'of course!'. But they're... They're not our Gods. I mean, you'd have to ask my niece about it to be sure, but I imagine most people wouldn't be happy with it. A lot of us probably think that Xæth is a place for Xæthoon temples to Xæthoon gods."

------

Ælirn hadn't stopped dancing with Genadi since the pair had begun, so when Queen Klara interrupted to give her announcement it was the first break she had had. With the news of Lady Utkin's release, Ælirn was amongst those cheering. She wasn't the most familiar with the situation, and certainly had less of a connection to the Lodjain than almost everyone else present. But a woman being rescued from terrorists whom everyone expected to have executed her was wondrous news regardless. Though now that she had stopped for a moment, she was starting to realized that she was beginning to tire and that it was, perhaps, best if she took a short break befoe returning to the dance floor.

"Perhaps it would be best if we were to take a short break?" she said to Genadi quickly, before the band began back up again and they were swept up into another dance. She couldn't find Allan with a quick glance so she made her way over to her silken booth, grabbing a glass of water somewhere along the way. "So, would you care to join me?" she asked Genadi, gesturing at the booth; she was under the impression that just dancing and then ditching the Queen borher would've been in rather poor taste, but she wasn't really sure what to say either.

"So, it must be interesting being the Queen's brother," she said as it was the first thing that popped into her head.

Ælirn was more than happy to let Genadi lead the way, or at least as happy as she could conceivably be in this situation. In Xæth the women typically took the more dominant role, but Ælirn was not the most experienced individual in these sorts of things. When she saw her Uncle make his way over with Anfisa she involuntarily sighed; of course he'd make his way over with someone who was probably almost a decade his senior. But she quickly put that out of her head a she had other things to focus on, such as the man in front of her. The Empress was rather quiet, not entirely sure of what she would even say in a situation such as this. Or if she should even say anything at all; they were about to start dancing as she needed her concentration after all. Ælirn was not the best dancer; she knew enough to not embarrass herself too badly but she mostly knew dances native to her homeland and it was quite plain to see that she was not the most skilled nor experienced of dancers. But despite this and Ælirn's unease at the situation, it wasn't long before she found herself honestly enjoying herself as she and Genadi moved across the dancefloor.

"Well with Sessifet being a Goddess of Beauty, you seem to be a perfect fit," Allan said to Anfisa as the pair made their way over to Ælirn, the Prince smirking as he caught Ælirn's glances his way. The Prince was noticeably better at dancing than the Empress, having had both more practice and desire to partake in the activity to begin with. And he couldn't help but smile when he caught glances of his niece smiling with Genadi; it was always nice when she was able to get out there and actually enjoy herself. But he could be happy for her later, since Anfisa should be the more important of his focuses at the moment.

Eventually there came a lull and Allan decided it best to take a break from dancing. He quickly glanced around for Ælirn, only to smile as he noticed her still on the dancefloor. "The Prince had better know when to stop or Ælirn's going to dance them both to exhaustion," he said with a laugh, before smiling at Anfisa, "So, Priestess Anfisa. I must ask, what made a woman as fair as you decide to join the clergy? And why East Moreland? If it's not too personal of a question, that is."

To His Royal Majesty King Hadi of Royal Seleucid,

Concerning the issues your nation is currently facing as a result of the most unfortunate locusts swarms, the government of Xæth wishes to begin a program of foreign aid to Royal Seleucids. The Throne desires to aid your ailing people with deliveries of basic and necessary foodstuffs directly to Royal Seleucid via air. We require only the agreement of cooperation of the Royal Seleucid government, so that our aid can reach your people safely and efficiently. And once we have done so, we shall begin to send in shipments posthaste.

We await your swift reply.

Respectfully,
Ithana Tyraa, Minister for Foreign Affairs for the Most Serene and Celestial Empire of Xæth

BiographyThe youngest sibling and only brother of Llyri and Yphaa, he was born only a scant 3 years before his mother's death and so to him his sisters were more like mothers while Ælirn is more akin to a sister to him (even if he does occasional enjoy trying to 'pull rank' with Ælirn by mentioning their actual relation). Annoyingly, he seems to have taken more after Yphaa than Llyri, and has little ambition in life. Affable and easygoing, his plan in life is to mostly to coast through enjoying himself until he 'ends up as some Lady or Queen's Imperial boytoy' as he puts it. Not that he considered that an undesirable lot in life, of course.

BiographyThe younger of two daughters, unlike her elder sister Yphaa Llyri took an interest in governance and politics from a relatively young age. But despite what differences they had, the pair were quite close. So close that upon Yphaa's enthronement in 1999 she was asked to become Prime Minister, which she refused thanks to her schooling and relative inexperience though she continued to give her input for any decisions her sister was required to make as Empress. She relented after a scandal lead to the sacking of her sister's Prime Minister two years later, and became the youngest Prime Minister ever at the age of 23. A position she had performed rather admirably in, even though she prefers a non-interventionist and borderline isolationist policy for Xæth and has an inherent distrust for those outside her nation.

BiographyThe only daughter of the previous Empress of Xæth, Ælirn was raised to one day rule her nation as her forebears had before her. However as a shy and introverted girl whose mother doted and spoiled her, she was perhaps not as well prepared for certain facets of Empresshood as she should have been. She cares immensely for her people, and has a great love and pride in the history and traditions of her nation. Collects pens.

Ælirn gingerly took the notebook, quickly scanning the King's notes before nodding and chuckling, "Oh there's no need to worry; this is hardly the worst handwriting we've ever seen."

She handed the notebook back then spent a long moment thinking in silence, tapping her fingers on her legs. "We are going to be honest, we would like more than anything than to enjoy myself, "the Empress said slowly, "But we have to admit, even back home in Xæth this sort of social gathering is not really our... forte? Forte. We're sort of unsure of what there even is to do, to be honest."

Xæth might have very well sent over some military volunteers and equipment to those fighting against the Communists. The Empress in 1982 wasn't as non-interventionist as her successors, and had something of a vehement and abiding hatred for communists on account of them having brutally murdered her mother several decades prior. Like Tamora it probably wouldn't be enough to make or break anything, and they honestly probably would've committed atrocities as well. The Xæthoons willing to travel to a foreign country for the explicit purpose of fighting Communists likely wouldn't be the most merciful of sorts after all.

Friendship Treaty Passes Through National Assembly

Late last year, a treaty was drafted and presented to the Xæthoon government by Empress Beatrice of Rokkenjima for an official 'friendship' between the two Empires. The treaty included such provisions as lowered economic barriers, ease of travel, and intelligence sharing and was presented before the National Assembly at its most recent session. While HIM Empress Ælirn XIX has been eager to steer Xæth's foreign policy away from the near-isolationism of her predecessor, the treaty would represent a hard shift in the official policy of the government as a whole. And as such many believed that it would be quickly shot down by the ruling Nationalist-Conservative coalition. However the treaty ended up being hotly debated on the floor of the Assembly, with more Assemblymen of the People's Conservative Party wishing to vote in favour of the treaty than expected. In the end, the Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation Between the First Empire of Rokkenjima and the Most Serene and Celestial Empire of Xæth passed with a 151:149 vote.

Today marks an official start to a new era of Xæthoon foreign policy, if the Empress' actions had not already began to do so. But almost as important, if not moreso, is that today's vote revealed the cracks in the coalition between the People's Conservative Party and the National Integrity and Unity League. What was expected to be a quick and solid victory turned into a humiliating defeat for the Nationalists, and with a new round of elections in a scant few months many are wondering if the coalition will survive or if the Nationalists will even continue their tenure as the largest party in the National Assembly.

"That's terrible! We're glad the language is making such a comeback. It's always sad when a language dies; even if people revive it later, it's like a piece of history and culture is gone forever," then the Empress grins, "Xæth had a similar issue with Imperial Xæthoon destroying our linguistic diversity, until our Grandmother started a program of local-language schools throughout the country. And they've made great strides! So we do appreciate the offer of help, but I think we have it covered."

"But for the immigration, that all sounds fair. Nothing unreasonable, we don't think. Which is good; less likely for it to be rejected," Ælirns says happily, "But, we have to say that the Expo has been most enjoyable. Perhaps next year some Xæthoon companies can make an appearance, or maybe Xæth can hold an Expo all her own."

"Well, perhaps you could follow me Prime Minister? I'm making the rounds with private conversations, and I have a room already set aside for the purpose," Ælirn said with a nervous smile, not bringing up the topic of the Iwi again until the pair were already on their way.

"The, uh, situation with the Iwi is kind of... well, it could be better I guess," she eventually says, "Things have gotten better for the Maori in Xæth over the centuries, but we're still kind of dealing with the, uh.... fallout? The fallout of our past colonialism. It's not a fun chapter of Xæthoon history."
