Overview
Hudsonia, alternatively, the Hudson jungle or the Hudson Rainforest, is a moist broadleaf tropical rainforest in the Hudson biome that covers most of the Hudson basin of South Ardia.
Basic Geography
The Hudson basin is 80% covered in rainforest, and is home to two nations, the Most Highest and Most Exalted Kingdom of Southern-Hudsonia and the Republic of the Hudson.
The Hudson river flows from the coastal east of the Hudson basin into the rainforest, separating into branches and thinning out as it gets further in. It has not been fully explored.
Basic History
Hudsonia was initially populated by dozens of individual tribes, that were loosely organised into an alliance. In the 17th century, the rainforest was explored, with outskirts of it colonised by the Ardian Empire. Eventually they encountered a member of the Gotika tribe, who they took back to their camp with them. There they attempted to communicate with him, and apparently nicknamed him "Hudson", after the group leader's pet dog, which is where the name of the area is believed to have originated from.
When "Hudson" tried to return home, the group followed him. The leader of the Gotika tribe, upon hearing the news of men from outside the jungle, called a meeting of tribe leaders. Part way through the meeting, it was ambushed by men from the Empire, whose superior weaponry easily massacred the natives. Outraged, a survivor of the massacre managed to flee, and rally the various tribes of the jungle. They succeeded in driving out the reconnaissance party, and managed to keep the Empire, and other foreigners from exploring anymore than a bit into the jungle.
The leader of the rallied tribes began to centralise the tribes, a process that continued on for generations, until it ended up a kingdom spanning the rainforest in the early 19th century. The newly formed kingdom was outdated by the nations around it, till it started to undergo trade with its neighbours, eventually reaching early 19th century standards in parts of the Kingdom in 1876. Around this time the Silent City was constructed, and the forest near to the river mouth was cut down, with small cities popping up.
In 1913, Alexios la Dio de Homo (litterally "the God of Man") was crowned, marking the beginning of the Alexios era. Alexios was crowned king after a sudden spree of deaths exterminated the entire ruling dynasty. Six years later, he was voted into the position of Papo by the Orange Catholic Imperial Church, unifying the Church and state for the first time. A group of separatists broke off, forming the Hudson Republic, protesting what they view as an unjust merging of a secular title and religious one. The Republic survived, due to the main trade partner of the Kingdom being embroiled in the Great War. After Alexios' death in 1928, his son, Alexios II, was declared the reincarnation of his father, thus keeping the Church and state unified. Currently, Alexios still rules, through his reincarnation into the body of his 8 year old great-grandson, Alexios IV.
