CNN Technology Expo 2018 - Networking Drinks
« on: December 12, 2018, 10:58:54 PM »

Just across from the The Technology City Exhibition Centre (TCEC) was the Grand Showroom, on a normal day it would be home to any one of a variety of events such as musical performances, lectures or even ballet. Today however it was hosting its first major international event, a networking event for the various companies and nations who were in attendance. King David had been first to arrive along with his Chief of Household Quinn Germaine she split off from the King once inside and stood ticking off the names of key people as they entered, she'd direct the King to anyone that he'd do well seeing during the night. A smartly dressed Air Force Steward stood by the door with a tray of Bucks Fizz while opposite stood a Royal Navy Steward with glasses of plain orange juice so each guest could get liquid rereshement upon their arrival. The hall was huge, and down one side of the room a vast buffet of various East Moreland cold delicacies sat, Game Pie, various pates, small chunks of various steaks on sticks and much to the King's delight Cheese and Pineapple on sticks, a standing joke with his daughter Princess Rhiannon who claimed it just wasn't a party without them.

Joanna Osman arrived and entered the hall taking a glass of Bucks Fizz as she walked in. The King was chatting with a few of the young Air Force Stewards manning a bar stocked with wine and spirits for the guests. She was the CEO of OsmanTech one of the biggest pharmactecal and biomedical companies on Mundus. She was also the ex-sister in law of the King. She nodded a respectful greeting to the King and examined the buffet.  Sir Harry Samuelson ignored the drinks, grabbed a piece of pie and began picking Joanna Osman's brain on some of the things he'd seen across the road. He was now Minister of Defence and rather enjoyed trying to see where the future could take the East Moreland military.

The first person to speak to the King was Sir Alan Maybury the CEO of EMAC, the pair had become good friends over the years and the King was keen to hear about EMAC's upcoming record attempt on a Formula Mundus style car. The King had helped establish Formula Mundus in his youth and was still a huge fan, despite his altercation with its current champion Sam Halliday. It didn't take long for Martin Dawson the young boss of SmartWar a company that despite its name was involved in a wide variety of projects both military and civilian. He too was a fan of the racing series and the three began chatting about the upcoming events and the gossip around the paddock.

Rachel Dixon may have been the first Morelander to walk on the moon but she still felt nervous walking into events like this, straight away several of the Air Force types headed her way, she was an ex-officer in their service and as such was now seen as a bit of a legend. She laughed as a few sneakily asked for autographs on the special monogrammed napkins from the event, she graciously signed for everyone before looking for someone she considered a friend to chat with. The organisers began music playing over the speakers built into the ceiling, gentle easy listening not something you could dance to, it wasn't that kind of event it was more a chance for people to chat about work and make deals. It would however once the sun goes down become more of a party but that was a good few hours away yet and more people had to arrive.

Empress Ælirn stood staring at the entrance to Grand Showroom, watching as people made their way inside, and swallowed nervously. This was her first ever international appearance as the Most Serene and Celestial Empress, and she was worried about, well, about literally everything. She'd spent a portion of her time since her enthronement looking forward to this event, but as it inched closer the more nervous she became. She was starting to feel sick to her stomach, and the scarification on her stomach still being sore and healing certainly didn't help things along. Then she felt a reassuring hand on her should and she looked over into the face of Kallax xy Ool, her Minister of Technology and, more importantly, her Aunt. She simply gave Ælirn a reassuring smile and gestured to the door with her head, "Come on."

The Empress swallowed and nodded, making her way into the Grand Showroom. She took an orange juice whilst her Aunt took a Bucks Fizz, and the Empress figured it best to meet and talk with the King himself; it was his personal invitation that brought her here after all. The pair of them were likely to stand out quite a bit, as they were dressed in traditional wear more native to Xæth. The Empress was dressed in a long sapphire dress embroidered with intricate golden designs and bedecked with jewelry, from a gem-encrusted headchain to the golden necklace to the numerous rings and armlets and bracelets on her arms. Meanwhile Kallax, an older woman with bright grey streaking through her wavy, dirty-blonde hair, was dressed in a loose, wrapped dress that bared her midriff and while she wore less jewelry than her niece her arms still held numerous bangles and bejeweled slave-bracelet on each hand. As the pair made their way around looking for King David, Ælirn managed to hide how nervous and self-conscious she felt being her while Kallax cheerfully soaked in the atmosphere.

Vadik Pasternak, the Vice President of Kaitaine had gained his bosses permission to come, he had argued it would be good to see what other nations had going on and beside the Morelanders had been the best intelligence source they'd had of the Bene Gesserits movements outside of Kaitaine. AS he entered the room he didn't like what he saw, oppulence far above the average persons lifestyle and a room full of the lackies of monarchs, leaders who lead be stint of whose vagina they happened to pop out of not how well they served the people. It was a bitterness to swallow but he knew it was for the good of the Republic and so he put on a smile, picked up an orange juice and wandered into the room. He made a point of going and thanking King David for his hospitality, after all he may dislike monarchs but at least this one was helping them and he was the host, good manners cost nothing looking around the room he first crossed over to Empress Ælirn, "Hello Ma'am" he said politley rather delicately skipping around the use of royal titles. "I'm Vadik, Vice President of Kaitaine I hope your having a pleasant day" he wondered if he should congratulate her on the recent coronation but figured he couldn't stomach such talk. "Anything in particular your homeland is here to see?" he asked trying to find out more about this nation.

"It is a pleasure to meet you Vice President," Ælirn said, forcing herself to put on a smile for the Communist, "We are Ælirn xy Thælyrn, Empress of Xæth."

Then she gestured to her Aunt beside her, "And this is our Aunt, Lady Kallax xy Ool; Xæth's Minister of Technology."

Pasternak received a polite nod from Kallax, but nothing more. Neither of them were particularly happy to be in this situation; one being a monarch and the other an avowed capitalist neither felt particularly sympathetic to Kaitaine's "republic" or particularly inclined to engage with the man before them. However, it would be rude to simply walk away and Ælirn was not about to let her first international appearance as Empress go south so quickly.

"We were invited by King David to attend at my recent enthronement, and it would have been rude of us to refuse," Ælirn said carefully, "But no, we are not here for anything in particular; if we are to be honest everything presented at the expo is immensely fascinating."

It would have been most odd if the Princiaplity wasn't present at all in events such as these. Wearing the finest suits (and dress) talent and money could make, two gentlemen and a lady made their entrance into the Grand showroom: Minister of Defence Skye Jonhston, Minister of Trade and Industry Dominic Read, as well as Minister for Science and Technology Shaun Henson. The goals as laid out by the Pope was to acquire as much new technology as possible, gaining new ideas and concepts in the process. With all three of them grabbing Bucks Fizz from the stewards, it wouldn't take a while before they were introduced to their influential hosts.

"Let's get our acts together before we dive unto the buffée table, my brothers." One of the ministers humorously reminded them all, as they noticed the flock of attendees participating in this CNN Expo. With some excitement and enthusiasm being filled up, the Krimeonite entourage started to slowly but surely walk up the middle of it all to catch some attention witht heir respective ministry aides, whilst keeping an eye out for any people of interest.

Being a businesswoman, gadget head and general science nerd the occasion was close to a natural habitat for Catriona Rowan, the CEO of Riviere Corporation walked into the grand showroom, she was fresh from paying a visit to Riviere's Technology City base of operations, checking in on the various projects and research that were being undertaken there before making her way to the expo, it had also allowed her the chance to double check on everything that they'd brought along to be exhibited.

"Your lemonade." Luke Ayanami said handing Catriona a drink, he was present because well he kept a steady eye on the various research projects undertaken by the students of Artaxia University, Achkaerin's top ranked university, it was a place that had seen a lot over the years and all the daily theorizing had turned it into an interesting model. He was curious to see what else was going to be shown off "You ready for this?"

"Absolutely." Catriona said "Is she here?"

"Just walked in." Luke said, referring to Anna Winters, the science and innovation commissioner for the CSU, it had taken a lot of careful choreography but Anna's presence was hopefully going to help some of what Riviere intended to present. Though Catriona wasn't even sure why she was a little on edge, she'd done stuff like this before, ok the audience was bigger but the general idea wasn't - was it what she was presenting? Still looking around the room made her smile - Alan Maybury, Martin Dawson,  Joanna Osman all of them big names in her world, the brain power in the room was without question immense and was only likely going to rise as more people turned up.

"So who do you want introducing to?" Catriona asked, Luke hesitated unsure of his response "Ok Sir Alan it is you can tell him all about the Sunseeker."

Vadik had to smile to himself at the response of  Ælirn, "Yes everything is so exciting isn't it, just my concern is where will it leave the people, the more we automise things the more we deny people the dignity of honest work. Don't you think it will be a shame that the craftsman of the past are just put out to pasture while their hard earned skills die?" He asked her before smiling, "It's been a please, I hope you have a good stay." He turned and headed off.

Spotting Vadik had finished talking with Ælirn King David moved in. "Empress" he said giving a small respectful bow, "I'm delighted you accepted my invitation." He lead her towards an Air Force Steward who was carrying a tray of drinks, David waited for the Empress to take one before helping himself. "I trust you had an enjoyable coronation and that you've not been too busy just yet." the King added. "Now it's my hope that despite us being here to marvel at some gadgets we can find a few moments to meet and discuss establishing some kind of connections between our two nations, how does that sound?" David asked.

Sir Harry made his way over to chat with Vadik, the pair had meet previously when discussing the intelligence sharing measures that existed between them. "Vice President" Harry grabbed his attention. "I didn't expect to see you here. I hope its not to do with any issues between our intelligence services?" Harry enquired, "Otherwise its lovely to see you here."

Sir Alan was not surprised when he saw Riverie heading his way. "Nice to see you again" he added, "Seems we always meet where the booze is." he chuckled. "How can I be of service."

Chief of Household Quinn Germaine was observing the floor as it seemed everyone was beginning to mingle, she noticed the Krimeonite delegation looking lost and so with clipboard in hand headed over. "Hello" she smiled "I'm Quinn, the King's Personal Assistant so to speak" She explained, "His Majesty is I believe a little busy at present, Our Minister of Defence looks tied up too. Is there anyone in particular I can introduce you too." She asked, "Or even anything you'd like to know." As Head of Royal Household she was rather up on all the goings on internationally and so figured she could at least entertain the group until someone official was free.

Though neither of them would admit it, as it would be wholly improper, both Ælirn and Kallax were quite happy with the brief length of Vice President Vadik's chat. And Ælirn was quite happy that the next person to make their way into her presence was none other than King David, the man she's wanted to speak with in the first place. Kallax smiled as David approached, giving her niece a comforting squeeze on the shoulder.

"Good luck, little Empress," she said, smiling.

"What, are you leaving?" Ælirn replied hastily, "Why?"

"You're both monarchs, and I have no doubt you have very monarchic things to talk about. And me? I'm just an old Minister," Kallax laughed, "You'll do great."

"Ugh, fine," the Empress sighed, as David moved in, "Love you."

"I love you too," Kallax said as she walked away, giving the King a respectful nod.

"King David," said Ælirn responding to his bow with a nod of her own, "We would not have dreamed of declining. And our Aunt is enjoying herself as well." The Empress gestured to Kallax making her way away, before following the King. Ælirn made certain to choose a non-alcoholic drink, taking a long sip before she responded to the King.

"Our enthronement was overall quite wonderful, thank you. Kind of nervewracking, but we imagine those sort of things usually are, at least at first," Ælirn gave a polite laugh, "But yes, we assumed we'd be talking about those sorts of things. Two Heads of States don't usually meet for the first time and not do so."

"Oh!" Ælirn then said, as though she'd forgotten something she had just remembered, "We would like to visit one of your temples at some point if, uh, possible. It's tradition for a visiting Xæthoon Empress to offer gifts to the land's local deities."

------

Kallax, meanwhile, was looking to speak to somebody a little more her speed. Leave the monarchs and the nobles to her niece, Kallax herself was more interested in the thinkers and the visionaries present. She had, after all, spent far more of her life as the CEO and visionary of Phaaza than she had as Xæth's Minister of Technology. It was a title she still had some getting used to.

But she set her sights Martin Dawson first, from what she did know of the man he reminded her a little of herself when she was a young woman: brilliant with computers and the founder of their own wildly successful companies. When she found him she waited to make sure he was not speaking with anyone, she'd hate to be rude after all, before moving to speak with him.

"Xitaar; Mr. Dawson, yes?" she said with a smile, extending a hand to shake, "Kallax xy Ool, founder and former CEO of Phaaza and current Minster of Technology of Xæth. It is a pleasure to meet you."

"Good day to you, I believe we haven't formally introduced ourselves. I'm Skye Johnston, Minister of Defence." she began to greet and shake Quinn's hand.

"Shaun Henson, Minister of Science and Technology, how charming." he said following soon after.

"Dominic Read, Minister of Trade and Industry, a pleasure to meet His Majesty's closest confidant." he finally added as well.

Taking a few sips from their drinks, the guys would let Skye do most of the talking in the beginning. "Well, firstly I have to say that this is an amazingly great-looking venue you chose for the cocktails and talks. As for whom we would want to meet or ask about, feel free to recommend whoever's available or offer any tips and tricks; We Krimeonites may find technology that is beneficial to everyday living valuable and enlightening, naturally, however the most exciting is probably meeting others through their Cultures and what couldn't be the perfect spot to do so other than in here? We're here to acquire knowledge and long-term contacts that we may cherish, in other words..." she replied to Germaine before pausing.

"Feel free to ask us anything too, much appreciated and obliged to do so." Minister Henson said with a smile, as Minister Read gave a friendly nod in the process.

MP Alesandro of Novum Vespuccia accompanied by his security entourage enters the grand showroom. He looks at his pocket watch nervously, as this is the first foray into a global stage for his nation, and all eyes at home will be on him to make a good showing. His home country wasn't a backwater, but seeing the newest and best technological innovations on display had him incredibly nervous.

"They had to send me, didn't they" Alesandro mutters under his breath

"You understand this is a great honor, as you are the face of our entire country in this moment, an honor that even our highest lords couldn't be bold enough to take" Says Darius, Alesandro's attendant, clearly overhearing his utterances.

"I suppose you're right, but I still feel uncomfortable" Alesandro replies offhandedly as he takes a drink and begins walking the showroom, meeting and greeting the most powerful people in the region.

David found a quiet corner for himself and Ælirn to speak. "I'd be more than delighted to show you the Temples, the nice thing is here in Northfort we have a whole district dedicated to the Gods, it means that within a few hundred meters of each other you have temples dedicated to each of the Gods and Goddesses, however if you want a real sight of a beautiful temple you need to head to Ostlake, the temple there is built on a small island in the centre of the lake. Although winter isn't the best time to go see it." He chuckled to himself. "Now what I had in mind was something rather simple, I'd like us to agree to each ensure we have an active embassy in each others nations, for example to us that means taking part in the community the embassy is in but also sharing our culture with others. So in recent times for example the Embassies in nations like Lodja have hosted events like tree planting when it was the feast day dedicated to the God of fertility. We'd hope your embassy would do likewise here. However lets not lose sight of the reason for an embassy, to ease communication between us, therefore I suggest the ambassadors be prepared to present themselves before either of us with 24 hours written notice. How does that sound?" David thought this should be the most straight forward manner of beginning ties.

Quinn was a little puzzled in a way, she was essentially King David's personal secretary and as such she had zero power of influence. She wasn't quiet sure what these Ministers from Krimeon hoped to achieve speaking with her while there was a room full of various people of note in the world of East Moreland politics and innovation. "Perhaps you could give me some insights into exactly what your hoping to achieve here and I can steer you in the right direction of the people who can help?" she suggested.

The King spotted the new arrivals, he was rather surprised as the Vespuccians hadn't replied but it was an open house and so the more the merrier. The King was busy in conversation but did spot his cousin Princess Lillian and motioned for her to step in. "Welcome to East Moreland" the Princess addressed the new arrivals as they entered. "I'm Princess Lillian, the King's cousin, he's currently engaged in a conversation with a guest. Perhaps I can help you out until he's finished, I know he'd be excited to meet you." Lillian took them over away from the door. "Can I introduce you to Rachel Dixon." the astronaut turned as Lillian announced her.

"A pleasure to meet you" Rachel extended a hand as she was introduced. "How are you finding things here?" She asked, "Anything in particular we can help you with?"

The Krimeonite delegation were equally puzzled by the fact that a secretary working for an illustrious King couldn't understand their intentions, much to their subtle irritation. "Well I'd say we were pretty clear what we were seeking but nonetheless, perhaps you could kindly show us to the most available person of politics or business to talk to, and then King David next once he's done." Minister of Defence Johnston replied, whilst gulping down her drink and grabbing another one from a passing tray. "In fact if possible, you could split us up and direct each of us to persons that would suit our roles in the government; Defence, Science and Technology, Trade and Industry...please." Johnston said.

Taking the hand of their host, Alesandro says, "Apologies for not responding formally, as you may or may not be aware of our country has been in a sort of... unstable state as of late." He says as he scratches the back of his neck in a state of nervousness.

"In any event. I am most honored to be here at this conference and while we weren't able to bring anything to expo this year, we have high hopes for next year."

Quinn streered the Krimeonites towards Martin Dawson, he fitted most of the criteria they were looking for, his company SmartWar was one of the more cutting edge companies when it came to Defence, Science, Technology and they'd traded in a vast array of nations. "Martin, these people are from Krimeon, their interested in making some contacts, I thought you'd be the person to speak to." She turned and bid the group farewell before heading back towards the door.

"A pleasure to meet you" Martin exchanged handshakes with each of them. "Well I'd be happy to help you if I'm capable. SmartWar have a combination of civilian and military technologies we've created. We've everything from automated patrol vehicles, mini robots and computer software for electric cars. So I suspect that's something that will fit most of your portfolios. So please feel free to ask anything you wish, or I can probably point you towards people who could answer your questions."

Lily noted the nervousness of her guest, "I'm less of a diplomat than my cousin the King. I get wheeled out at the occasional function, opening of schools and the like. I spend most of my days working on my Masters degree in Biological Engineering. I'm a little like yourself, I hope to have something to bring to this at some point in the future beyond a few bottles of wine." This was probably only the third or forth meeting that she'd attended since her side of the family had got back in the King's good books following her older brothers betrayal. "So what kind of projects are you interested in, I mean Technology City does have a condition of working here that you look to co-operate with other nations, perhaps I can point you in the directions of someone who could be of help, or you could maybe help them?" She asked Alesandro.

Catriona smiled at Sir Alan, he had a point the pair did always seem to meet where the booze was.

"I'm kind of playing the chaperone today. Aside from talking shop with some people and presenting Riviere's showcase" Catriona said "This is Luke Ayanami, he oversees various engineering and scientific projects at the University of Artaxia and today's his big introduction to the various notable companies here. Luke this is Sir Alan Maybury the CEO of EMAC. I believe his companies penchant for speed records extends to some of your students?"

"A pleasure to meet you." Luke said to Sir Alan before Catriona could embarrass him further.

"We actually find winter quite beautiful, despite the cold; where we're from you don't have an entire season where everything dies, and..." Ælirn begins, then realizing that that was perhaps an odd thing to say she trails off, "Uh, well anyway. All that sounds pretty doable." She clasp her hands together and smiles, "We already have a place in Ælilly chosen for the various embassies from around Mundus. And it shouldn't be so far from Jiloola that 24 hour notice would be a hassle, we don't think."

"But, we are enjoying our time in East Moreland so far. You have a lovely country, if a bit cold at the moment. And the Expo has been very impressive; even my Aunt thinks so and she isn't easily impressed. You will have to visit Xæth sometime in the future. When you aren't busy, if course."

"It's a wonderful opportunity to finally meet the legendary Martin Dawson himself, thank you for taking the time, I'm sure we can come to a suitable partnership between SmartWar and the Serene Principality in several ways possible, though your company has made quite a mark already within the civilian spheres of Krimeon." MoD Johnston greeted as the three ministers shook hands with Mr. Dawson, smiling, before taking their seats.

"There's a few things we'd like to ask, but first of all as much as we appreciate the multitude of mini robots, patrol vehicles and soft ware for vehicles which we're keen to acquire, would you mind giving us a few details of the latest products, technological breakthroughs SW would like to share?" she inquired.

"Also, we wish to return the favor and express incentives in order for SW among others to establish themselves in our country, what is favorable is that the Morelander community is well established and as such offers quite an easy transition." Minister of Trade and Industry Reed said.

Martin Dawson smiled, "At present we're focusing on the next level of the Swarmbots, essentially making them capable of flight, beyond that we're mainly at the present working on a variety of new systems for EMAC as software for upgrades to Air Force projects, and not to forget in the civilian market looking at partnering with ZDS from Bakkermaya on their biohacking projects. As for us establishing ourselves in your country then it would clearly depend on what these incentives are, we're a successful business but not large so therefore it will not automatically be a case just because you have Morelanders that we'd consider moving. The economic conditions would need to be favourable." Martin finished explaining.

Meanwhile the King was talking with Ælirn, "Beyond us sharing embassies I'd like to explore two other avenues. The first being student exchange programmes, I'd like to get our schools partnered with schools in your nation, it will help with cultural understanding. Furthermore I'd like us to establish a system for University students to be able to attend institutes in each others nation. Of course I'm open to any suggestions you have for other ways we can work together to our mutual benefit."

The trio looked at each other before Minister of Trade Reed responded. "Of course Mr. Dawson, Krimeon does indeed offer favorable incentives for companies such as yours; low taxation, which is indeed among the most competitive in Mundus. Naturally the ideal condition would be 0% taxation but as reality dictates, not everyone can be Nèmèrie and Heyra, otherwise we would be standing here with empty pockets", they laughed before continuing, "Instead what Krimeon offers is the following in terms of corporate taxation;" Reed showed a document, pointing on note nr. 2.

1. SMEs (less than 250 full-time workers, an annual turnover no larger than €50,000,000, and an annual budget smaller than €43,000,000) receive a flat tax rate of 8.5% on total profits.

2. Large businesses (more than 250 full-time workers, an annual turnover greater than €50,000,000, and an annual budget greater than €43,000,000) receive a flat tax rate of 12% on total profits.

3. Businesses offering Financial Services are exempt from taxation from all tiers of government.

4. Businesses involved in the shipping and shipbuilding industry are constitutionally exempt from all taxation on their net profits at all levels of Government, provided they have their international headquarters in Krimeon and a minimum of 35% of their ships registered under the Krimeon Flag. If this condition does not apply, they may still be entitled to a 50% reduced corporate tax rate should they be based in Krimeon.

"We hope this offer is more than attractive enough to consider investing in the Principality" Minister of Defense Johnston continued, which now brings us to the moment for possible purchasement of your products. May we see some sort of catalogue to take a look what's available in your portfolio?".

Ælirn clasps her hands together and grins, "Oh, a student exchange program would work amazingly. I already have one in the works with Rokkenjima, and I'm working on improving the programs we have for teaching Xæthoon. Which would, you know, be rather important for any student exchange program. I doubt many students outside Xæth itself can speak any of the tongues."

Then she clears her throat, having realized that she was about to start rambling, "Anyway, I'm also interested in increasing the ease with which people can travel between our nations. Xæthoon restrictions can be a tad too, well, restrictive for my tastes. It's something I want to change in general, but until then... Well, whatever works."

David was pleased Ælirn had gone for the student exchange programme, "Languages are a rather tricky issue." David nodded, "Until around five years ago Morelandish was on the decline and only used for ritual purposes, now its making a comeback and thankfully this year we've just agreed already to make it the only language in our educational system. My hope is that soon it'll be a growing language once more. Now if our experiences there can be any help then we'd be happy to discuss it. Now as for easing travel we operate a system where travel reciprication is used, you grant us a less restrictive process then we'll try and match it but sadly our nations security processes are considered among the most restrictive going. So I would insist that any restrictions would include the need for a pre-booked return ticket meaning we can check out the person travelling and if needed refuse admission, additionally a caveat that we can deny any entrance on security grounds. So how about we say anyone visiting for less than 30 days who can pre purchase a return ticket and prove they have funds to cover their stay can travel, so long as we approve them on security grounds or vice versa?" the King asked.

Martin Dawson laughed slightly at the Krimeon Minister, "Forgive me me Minister" Martin said before continuing, "You see SmartWar is not a company that really does off the shelf stuff, everything we do is tailored towards certain specific needs. Let me give you an example, we have the RoboGuard, a semi autonomous system capable of conducting ground patrols. Now the East Moreland version contains the ability for it to return fire if it senses incoming fire. The Slava Lavosk version we were asked to put together wasn't, now sometimes those criteria are made by our export licences and other times by the requirements of the client. Now if you are looking at existing stuff we can put together quickly we've obviously got things like our vehicle armour, we've systems to upgrade tanks and we've also done the various targetting software on the EMAC Dragonbane II's. Now projects like the Swarmbots can be turned out quickly but generally I'd begin conversations not with what we have on the shelf but what do you need. You see we've made our reputation by creating small scale niche products for customers needs, I'm more than happy to put together solutions to problems you face." He explained. "As for establishing ourselves in Krimeon you have to remember we don't have a large staff, we employ less than 800 people directly, the majority of our work is having people build components for us. So for example the Roboguard is built by a partner company in terms of the vehicle, we recieve a built shell and then add our software systems and the like to make it the effective platform it is, I mean if you want we can get you a Roboguard you can actually drive rather than the A.I." Martin explained. "Now what I would like to do is look at ways we could perhaps encourage people from Krimeon to consider working for us. So establishling maybe a SmartWar design studio or something, 30-50 people. Now if that's something we'd be permitted to do I'd like to send some of our staff over to one of your Universities with a specialism in computing or engineering and allow them to run some kind of challenge event to see what skills we can unearth. How does that sound?"

"That's terrible! We're glad the language is making such a comeback. It's always sad when a language dies; even if people revive it later, it's like a piece of history and culture is gone forever," then the Empress grins, "Xæth had a similar issue with Imperial Xæthoon destroying our linguistic diversity, until our Grandmother started a program of local-language schools throughout the country. And they've made great strides! So we do appreciate the offer of help, but I think we have it covered."

"But for the immigration, that all sounds fair. Nothing unreasonable, we don't think. Which is good; less likely for it to be rejected," Ælirns says happily, "But, we have to say that the Expo has been most enjoyable. Perhaps next year some Xæthoon companies can make an appearance, or maybe Xæth can hold an Expo all her own."

"That brings us back to why we've liked to be consulted by great entrepreneurs such as yourself, Mr. Dawson. Our intentions is simply to bring the Krimeon Armed Forces into the 21st century; don't get us wrong it pretty much already is, but it can't hurt to invest further more and make it capable as much as it can get, this includes discovering new technologies such as the ones you just mentioned. We would thus like to acquire whatever you offer, from Roboguards and Swarmbots to Vehicle Armor on our tanks, helicopters and naval vessels." the Defense Minister replied.

"Naturally, you're more than welcome enough to start this interesting project of yours, we're very much open to all of this. The State University of Krimeon would be the most suitable to find potential recruits, although I could later on provide full details on other universities and colleges of note." One of the other ministers said.

David removed a  small red leather notebook and pencil from the inside pocket of his jacket and resting on his crossed legs he scribbed. "Ælirn I believe then that this is what we've agreed so far."  He handed over the notebook, "That's if you can read my handwriting" David sat back as he allowed Ælirn to read the scribbled set of notes.

Quote from: Scribbled Note

1. Our two nations agree to embassies

2. Our two nations agree that ambassadors will present themselves within 24hours of receiving written notice.

3. There shall be a student exchange programme annually between high school students in each nation.

4. Students reaching the required level of academic excellence, able to fund their fees and not presenting a concern to national security are permitted to apply to study in each nation.

"I think its a great start, now I obviously understand you're not just here for me to write up a treaty but your also here to enjoy yourself. I would be delighted to sit and hammer out a full treaty if that's what you'd prefer but unless you have any deep desires for us to discuss such matters as trade, security or anything else I think we're off to a good start. So I suppose what happens next is your choice?" David asked.

Martin meanwhile was rather pleased, he was on the brink of getting a sweet little deal. "Well perhaps at a future date you can send me specifications of exactly what kind of things your looking for. I'll throw together a bid and we can take it from there. Our vehicle armour isn't something you're going to want on everything nor is it suitable for certain operations, but e-mail me your requirements and I'll see what we can do. As for the swarmbots they are still in development so unless you have a mission need you can envisage for them their not really a product for sale at the moment." He scribbled down his e-mail address.

"As for the University I'm looking forward to it already. We'll probably set two challenges, one to design a device for some purpose and the second to write some code for a group of Swarmbots to fulfil a task."

"Ah, you're the chap building the solar powered car?" Sir Alan addressed Luke as he shook his hand, "How exactly is that faring?" he added. It would clearly be some time before EMAC went total electric with its propulsion but it never hurt to find out what people where up to. "So I assume you have some reasoning behind hunting me down beyond grabbing a sausage roll or two. What can I help you with?" he asked.

Ælirn gingerly took the notebook, quickly scanning the King's notes before nodding and chuckling, "Oh there's no need to worry; this is hardly the worst handwriting we've ever seen."

She handed the notebook back then spent a long moment thinking in silence, tapping her fingers on her legs. "We are going to be honest, we would like more than anything than to enjoy myself, "the Empress said slowly, "But we have to admit, even back home in Xæth this sort of social gathering is not really our... forte? Forte. We're sort of unsure of what there even is to do, to be honest."

"Wonderful...excellent" all ministers sid in unision, noting down Martin's contact details. "Is there anything else Mr. Dawson wishes to adress? Otherwise we wouldn't mind calling it as it is and proceed forward to initiate talks with your other countrymen as time's rather short. We would like to thank you once more for being the first to discuss with us and am looking forward with the rest." One of the ministers said. After Mr. Dawson said something additionally, they called upon the King's Secretary to arrange a meeting with the next available Morelander.

"Well I'm the chaperone for the day kind of helping Luke build up a contacts network for his research students, making introductions and the like." Catriona said "But while I think about I need to thank you for your advice at the Festival of Sail, thanks to what you pointed out to me we'll be testing our stuff in the next few weeks once we're ready and then hopefully over the summer. Now I think I'll let you two talk a bit."

When Catriona walked away Luke smiled.

"The Dawnbreaker, our solar powered car, is going well we're in the home straight of the project now, the driver's getting ready for it and we're closing in on the date. Fingers crossed we manage to pull it off. I believe you're at a similar stage with the Tollerbadger." Luke said "There is something I'd like to discuss with you. Part of what my students do is they work closely with companies and other institutions, they give a little funding and we assist them with research projects, for example I've got a team of students who're building something for the Achkaerin Space Agency to meet a brief the agency gave us. I'm wondering if EMAC would be interested in a similar arrangement?"

The King finished his meeting with Ælirn , "Well Your Majesty I'll have our civil servant write this up much neater than I can and then maybe later we can sign it in front of everyone out there." The King sounded hopeful, after all what could be more successful a ground breaking expo as well as some significant but small diplomatic victory. "Perhaps while you're here you can find something to entertain you. What's your thoughts on motor sports?" The King asked with a smile as he took Ælirn out into the main chamber. He made his way over to Adam Toller, the youngest son of Ryan Toller the man behind the highly successful Formula Mundus team. "Adam this is Empress Ælirn. I assume you've got the two seater here?" he asked.

"A pleasure to meet Your Majesty" Adam said with a bow to the foreign guest. "And yes Your Majesty we do."

"Then if the Empress here would be interested maybe you'd have Cooke take her for a spin." David turned back to Ælirn, "Personally I love the car racing, Rytol our Formula Mundus team have a two seater. If your looking at something fun to do while your here I can highly recommend it. Think of it like a roller coaster but much faster." the King waited for the Empress to make her decision.

Sir Alan was interested in Dawnbreaker of course but there may be some issues. "As your no doubt aware EMAC have agreements with universities in many nations to work with students. Now I'd be happy to make arrangements to work with students from Achkaerin, one issue however may be the close ties many of your establishments have with Riverie, while we get along well with them as people there is still a corporate rivalry. The last thing I would want is a student working with us, learning all our inner workings and secrets and then working for the enemy." Sir Alan said sarcastically. "I'll gladly look at co-operative projects, they may be us coming in and acting as  advisors on projects students wish to run, alternatively we may be putting a "gardening leave" condition in for any student working inside our company in Achkaerin." he explained.

The King having dropped the Empress off with the Rytol Racing team made his way back to get an orange juice when Quinn Germaine grabbed him and steered him towards the Krimeons. "I understand you've been chatting with Martin Dawson" the King said as they exchanged handshakes, "Last time I went to see SmartWar they had a herd of mini robots carrying Rhiannon across the floor." He smiled remembering the day out they'd had at SmartWar HQ in Technology City. The Princess has been their test subject, she'd lay on the floor and hundreds of little bots grabbed hold of her and carried her across 10meters of the floor. They'd been demonstrating that the bots had potential use in search and rescue and of course Rhiannon had squealed with delight as the thing swarmed over her and half carried, half dragged her. "So is there anything in particular I can do for you?"

"Unfortunately, we think it would be better for us not to sign any agreements. The National Assembly has to ratify any treaties in Xæth and we don't think something like this would be appropriate for the first Imperial Edict of my reign," Ælirn said, giving King David an apologetic smile, "But we're sure it'll go through without any problems, and we'd be happy to sign it once it has been accepted."

"Motor sports?" Ælirn said, following David out into the main chamber, "We can't really say we're a big fan, why?"

Adam Toller received a polite nod from Ælirn, "It is a pleasure to make your acquaintance."

"But, what? Two-seater?" she asked, then as King David spoke her eyes opened wide, "Wait, car racing? Like, a racecar?" Excitement was plain to her in her voice as she spoke, despite not being a major fan of motor sports a racecar ride was still not an opportunity that came around everyday. "Oh, well we would be delighted to!"
