Marriage Audience 6 - East Moreland & Kinkhnland
« on: April 07, 2020, 06:02:11 PM »
David had finished his meeting with the Achkaerin delegation and bid them farewell. He looked at his watch, he had twenty minutes before those from Kinkhnland were scheduled to arrive. His new wife Stasya had sat in for the meeting with Achkaerin, a meeting David had considered a nice simple introduction to East Moreland diplomacy. He would have asked for her to stay for the next one but Kinkhnland were a nation the Morelanders had very few ties with and so it may be a more difficult meeting but he hoped not. It was also scheduled to be the last of the day. "I'll see you later for dinner" David embraced Stasya kissing her goodbye. "You've not left lipstick on me again have you?" he enquired taking a step back inviting inspection.

"No" she grinned having checked that she hadn't, "I'm saving that for later." she turned and left pausing briefly to speak to Quinn on the way past. "Please do your best to make sure he's on time. I'm starving and I'm not sitting around all evening." She then headed out reaching the top of the stairs that lead to the bedrooms in the Palace just as the Red Legionnaire Guardsman escorted the delegation from Kinkhnland into Quinn's office where he introduced them.

Quinn did her usual job of checking that she had their titles and names correct before informing them the King had tea and coffee waiting but that she could bring other beverages if they had anything they would prefer. She wondered just how much coffee the King had drunk today and wondered if he'd be able to sleep for the next week. Once everything was in order she escorted the guests into the King's office and introduced them by their titles and names before turning round and heading out.

"Good afternoon" David greeted them. "Thank you for coming, I trust you've found something to keep you busy in Northfort?" he enquired while pouring the drinks. "Now traditionally today is a day the King of East Moreland makes time to listen to requests, concerns etc from people who attended his wedding so I'm suspecting there is something you'd like to discuss with me. That being said I am all ears." he handed over the drinks before sitting back with his umpteenth cup of coffee.

The delegation of Kinkhns was a small one; they hadn't sent very many people to East Moreland to begin with after all. Princess Yu-Phin & Ambassador Wattana were both present; the Princess had wanted to speak to King David alone but the Empress had insisted that the Ambassador be present. Because of course the Empress would want one of her bootlicking lackeys present. But as annoyed as she was, she put that aside for the meeting with King David.

She was smiling as she returned King David's greeting, gratefully taking her drink. She found it rather refreshing that the King was pouring the drinks; he didn't consider doing such things as beneath someone of his station, very much unlike the Empress and indeed most Kinkhn nobility. "Northfort is rather different from what I am used to, however it is a lovely city in its own way," Yu-Phin said politely, "And congratulations on your marriage; it was a wonderful pair of ceremonies."

"It was truly a marriage that would make both of your ancestors very proud," Ambassador Wattana said, taking a sip of tea, "But yes, there is something which we would like to discuss with you, Your Majesty."

"Honestly I am not one for, hmmm, beating around the bush I believe the phrase goes?" Yu-Phin said, glad that King David had asked about business outright; she often found it frustrating that her people considered it rude to talk about business without spending hours talking about nothing over tea first, "Kinkhnland is stepping out onto the world stage for the first time in a long time, and regardless of the efficacy of that policy it has left Kinkhnland's options for foreign policy more open than they likely ever will be again. I think this could be an opportunity for both East Moreland & Kinkhnland to start building ties."

The King took a bite out of a muffin before responding to the Princess. "Thank you" he said in response to the congratulations. "Now I'm thrilled to hear that your thinking of becoming more active on the world stage. I remember my father making such debates in his own mind before sadly never having a chance to put them into action. It became my mission to try and do what he had envisaged and as a result we're tied in to rather an extensive network of trade and diplomatic agreements as well as being part of the CNN. Now these things are both a blessing and a curse in some way. Its a blessing because it has provided East Moreland with a great number of benefits, its a curse because at times they may stop us being totally free with how we discuss things with other nations. I personally don't see any issues us concluding here today matters relating to trade and the economy. Beyond that the world is our oyster so to speak within reason. One thing I do need though to take into account is your relationship with the Maori, they're our CNN allies after all. How do you see your relationship with them?" The King wouldn't risk upsetting the Maori and so would need to first etsbalish a kind of base line for where the Princess gauged the relationship.

"As for setting a foundation that naturally begins with ambassadors being set up with conditions of them being called in by the respective Head of States. I generally believe if an ambassador needs any longer than 24 hours notice for a meeting then they need to be sacked. How does that sound as a start? Beyond that I'm happy to consider as close a relationship as you think is suitable short naturally of anything that would exceed our agreements with MICA and the CNN."
