Reasstablishing ties with our parent (Aschlon + Heyra)
« on: September 09, 2020, 10:37:47 AM »
Robert Anglo, advisor to Bill Jovi and the recently elected de-facto head of foreign affairs sat patiently, waiting for his brother to finish his call.
“Yes that will be all.” Greg Anglo put the phone done and turned to his brother. “So, Rob, what do you want this time?”
“I need you to ask the Tarc if the matter I discussed with them a few days ago has the go ahead.”
Greg smiled and picked up his phone, “So now or?”
“When you can.”
Greg nodded, before remarking off handedly, “You asked ASSO for the go ahead?”
Robert snorted and shook his head. “ASSO can cry themselves to sleep, I’m not asking them for matters which don’t concern them. They got too big for their boots. Soon their gonna try take remove the Tarc I think, getting too powerful.”
Greg sighed and began dialling a number. “I suppose, the Tarc does need to reign them in.”
He put the phone to his ear and Robert listen to one side of the conversation. Once it was over, Greg turned to him and smiled.
“They gave you the go ahead.”
Robert smiled and sat up, “Thanks Greg.”

The idea had been suggested a week or so before. It had come up with the discovery of a late 16th century Heyran caravel, perfectly preserved under the mud, which reminded the Tarc of Aschlon’s Parent Nation. Diplomatic relations with the rest of the world had been cut, when King Henry I pulled Aschlon out of the Great War and into self imposed isolation, after the death of his father, King Ferdinand, in battle. The Tarc had, after much deliberation and debate with Rober Anglo, decided that reestablishing ties with Aschlon’s parent could only be beneficial to both parties. And so Robert Anglo was given the go-ahead.

Dear The Heyran Republic,

On behalf of the Tarc and the People’s Republic of Aschlon, I extend my hand in greeting.

Whilst we may have returned from our self imposed isolation only a few months ago, we have had yet to reconnect ties with our founder. We are rectifying that now.

We invite you now to our capital Hootoft City, to discuss how we may aid each other. In this day and age, mutual help is more important than ever.

Sincerely,
Robert Anglo
Advisor to Bill Jovi

Unusually, the massive crowd of people that usually swarmed the city streets of Hootoft City had been cleared. The police force had closed down the roads that made up the route the Heyran Ambassador would be taking, after all, it wouldn’t be right to tell them they had to walk to their hotel and then to the city hall, would it? The route was lined with police officers, making sure that those residents who had to leave their homes where escorted out, and did not loiter. On the rooftops the occasional figure could be seen watching, members of ASSO making sure that they got no unexpected guests.

The Heyrans would be staying in the Russel Hotel, a lavish 5 star arrangement just down the road to the City Hall, where the Tarc was being held after the Tarc fire situation. The Russel hotel was well known for being the haunt of State officials, and so had expert security. It was rumoured that Hadyn Lost himself, head of ASSO and one of the most powerful people in Aschlon, would regularly go there to enjoy a fine dinner with his right hand men. The Heyran diplomat had been assigned a trio of ASSO agents to keep an eye out. The Heyrans were not told about this.

Once they had rested in the Hotel for an hour and a half, they would be escorted to the City Hall, where the 10 members would already be seated, waiting for the Heyran arrival. The 300 advisors usually present would be narrowed down to only 30 attending the meeting, each Representative picking 3 each.

This had all been meticulously planned out by Robert Anglo, who, with the help of six others, had planned every detail, every possible threat and every outcome. It would not be good to have a diplomat assassinated on their soil.

Robert stretched and looked at his watch. It wouldn’t be long now till the Heyrans arrived at the hotel. He rubbed his eyes, and went to go get breakfast.

Robert Anglo peered at his watch. He was a man that liked things done quickly, and the fact that his watch (which was 18 minutes quick) was giving the illusion that the process was running fifteen minutes late was giving him some concern. He was just about to pick up his phone, and ask where the ambassador was, when the cars pulled up. He hurriedly shoved it down into his pocket, and took a step forward.

As the ambassador stepped out of his vehicle Robert hurried forwards. He nodded politely, the Aschlonian show of respect roughly equivalent to a hand shake.
“Welcome to Aschlon, sir.” he said in perfect Latin, “I’m Robert Anglo, advisor to Bill Jovi. I hope your trip here was comfortable.”
He nodded towards the door of the City Hall, flanked on either side by two fully armed members of ASSO.
“Shall we, sir?” he said and turned towards it.
Inside the Tarc would be waiting.

Robert led the ambassador up the stairs, nodding to his brother, who was making a phone call, as he passed. He walked past the guards, the ambassador and his delegation following him. He led then through the doors and into the lobby of the hall. The city hall itself was a relic of King Ferdinand II’s reign, decorated like the Fleuroix palaces and hotels he had admired so much.

Robert led them to another set of doors, and pushed them open to reveal a long corridor, lined with offices on either side. He led them down it, towards the double doors at the end. He stopped, briefly, to allow a member of ASSO to pass in front of them, hurriedly delivering something to someone.

In the background, a piano could be heard. The City Hall was still used for its music concert hall, where the cream of society would come and sip expensive wines whilst musicians played pieces by Mozart and other composers such as Wagner and Beethoven. Whatever was being played, it was quite dramatic, with plenty of crescendos and sudden stops.

He stopped in front of the double doors and knocked twice. The doors opened, and two ASSO agents looked them up and down before stepping aside to let them through. They walked into the room, semi-circular. 10 raised desks stood. Behind each of them, rows of benches stood. The 10 members of the Tarc sat behind the raised desks, whilst their total 500 advisors would usually sit on the benches. Today, each Representative had only 5 advisors, compared to their usual 50, making much more space on the benches. To one side another desk sat one which Hadyn Lost, head of ASSO usually sat. Today he was absent, apparently having some business elsewhere to attend to. Another desk was placed in the centre of the room, with benches lined up behind, for the Heyran ambassador and his delegate.

Robert guided the Heyran to their place, before taking his place behind Bill Jovi.

Oscar Joan, one of the most recent members of the Tarc nodded to the Heyrans and cleared his throat.

“Good morning.” he said, “for the records, this is the first formal meeting between the Republic of Heyra and the People’s Republic of Aschlon. Mr Aniger, it is nice to meet you.”

He introduced the other Tarc members.

“We are gathered here to, hopefully, leave with an agreement between us. We understand as a minarchy, that  you will be unable to make certain agreements with us that other nations are able to, in order to avoid the breaking of your own law.”

OOC- As i have never done something like this, i would appreciate it if you could get the ball rolling.
