The United Kingdoms of Eskdale

THE UNITED KINGDOMS OF ESKDALE

In 1687 the King of Eskdale was blessed with triplets. While tradition dictated that the monarch would hand-pick which of his children would take the throne upon their death he was unsure which to name as his heir. As such he issued a decree that should he die his Kingdom would be split three ways under conditions to be established by his wife after consultation with the Priest of Esk. In 1688 the King died of a disease modern historians believe was cholera and this triggered the transition of the nation into three Kingdoms each though united under a single banner thus meaning the Kingdom of Eskdale stayed harmonious. Today the three smaller Kingdoms are still ruled by the descendants of those triplets under a system of government known as the Pactum Regina Anne which governs the relationships between them.

THE KINGDOM OF BLACKBECK

Population: 18,500,000
Capital: Egremont
Ruling Dynasty: The Courtney Family
Current Monarch: King Robert II

His Majesty King Robert II of Blackbeck
Duke of Penruddock

King Robert was born in 1979 and inherited the throne in 2013. He married the now Queen Sophie in 2015 and they have two children, Prince Stephen (b.2016) and Prince Charles (b.2018).

The City of Howtown

Howton is the capital of Blackbeck and has a population of just over 500,000.  The River How runs through the middle of the city and during the 1700's was utilised to create a network of several canals to the industrial sections of the city. The city maintains a traditional medieval built heart but the suburbs are now heavily industrialised as during the late 1800's and early 1900's the city became a manufacturing centre.

THE KINGDOM OF THORNHILL

Population: 17.200,000
Capital: Cleator
Ruling Dynasty: The Paget Family
Current Monarch: Queen Diane IV

Her Majesty Queen Diane IV.
Duchess of Glenridding

Queen Diane was born in 1978 and became Queen in 2019. She is married to Duke Richard of Glenridding and has twin children, Princess Sarah (b.2014) and Prince Alexander (b.2014)

The City of Skerton with a view of Paget Castle

Skerton is the capital of Thornhill and has a population of around 500,000 with around a further 150,000 in the surrounding metropolitan area. The city is famed for a huge number of renovated 19th Century sandstone buildings which were at one time utilised as mills for wool and then later cotton and even in a handful of examples silk. Today they form the HQ's of banks and financial services or in many cases are converted into residences. The city skyline is dominated by Paget Castle which is the ancestral home of the nations royal family. It was built in the 1400's and was originally called Skerton Castle, the name changed once the Kingdom split into its current form. It today is used as an official residence however due to the vast cost in upkeep it is usually only used when needed for state occasions and around 60% of the building is accessible to the public as a museum and tourist attraction.

THE KINGDOM OF PAPCASTLE

Population: 9,800,000
Capital: Embelton
Ruling Dynasty: The Aterbury Family
Current Monarch: King Henry III

His Majesty King Henry III of Papcastle
Duke of Greystoke

King Henry was born in 1949 and became King of Papcastle in 1991. He is married to Queen Laura since 1980 and has three children, Princess Henrietta (b.1983), Prince William (b.1985) and Princess Mary (b.1988)

The City of Whaw

The capital of Papcastle is Whaw. It has a population of just under 500,000. It originated as a fortified town controlling a strategic river crossing however during the Industrial Period it became a popular destination for the wealthy to come and take "medicinal water" the influx of wealthy landowners keen to diversify their wealth also invested in construction of textile mills and other industrial practices meaning the city became a mix of green parks, luxury homes and then workers terraces and cottages closer to mills that utilised the river for their energy.

The Pactum Regina Anne

The Pactum Regina Anne is the document that Eskdale society is founded upon. It was written in 1688 when King Richard II died of what is believed to be cholera while on excursion with his troops. At the time he had three children who were triplets. The traditions at the time of Richard II's death was that the King would name their heir and could, and often did, ignore the order of birth. The King could if they wished even select a female to inherit their crown however this was extremely rare. Most monarchs would regularly update their order of succession as relationships within the family changed and as children got older. When Richard II died he had left instructions that his wife Queen Anne was to govern as regent until the children's 16th birthdays when each of them would inherit a Kingdom of their own under the banner of a larger United Kingdom of Eskdale. It was left to Queen Anne to write this document that would govern this arrangement.

Quote
It is decreed that on the 7th April 1688 Her Majesty Queen Anne of Eskdale acting under the recognised final decree of her husband His Majesty King Richard II the following instructions shall be carried out.

1. Upon the 16th May 1703 the Kingdom of Eskdale shall be divided into three sub-Kingdoms with each passing into the keeping of one of King Richard II's children. Should one of these children not survive until this date then the Kingdom shall be divided between the two survivors. Additionally should only one of these children survive then they shall inherit the whole Kingdom in completion. Should none of the Children survive until this date then the closest living relative of Queen Anne shall inherit the Kingdom in totality.

2. The three Kingdoms shall be formed utilising the High Duchies which are governed currently under Royal Titles which would normally be inherited by Royal Princes upon maturity. These Kingdoms shall be Blackbeck, Thornhill and Papcastle. Prince William shall inherit Blackbeck, Thomas shall inherit Thornhill and Joseph shall inherit Papcastle.

3. Each sub-Kingdom shall be governed by a King.

4. Upon the 16th May 1703 a subject living in the territory of Blackbeck, Thornhill and Papcastle shall no longer be a subject of Eskdale but shall become a subject of their relative Kingdom. They shall be required to give an oath of loyalty to their new monarch and new Kingdom.

5. Each subject shall be free until such date to move freely about the Kingdom without limitation save for that passed by the King's Council.

6. Upon the 16th May 1703 the following rights shall be extended to all subjects of the new Kingdoms.

a) All freemen have the right to own property for the benefit of themselves and their family.
b) All freemen have the right to practice their own profession to the benefit of themselves and their family save for a period of required military service each year. This military service may not exceed 30 days.
c) All freeman have the right to refuse searches of their property and person save for when being accused of a crime.
d) All freeman have the right to refuse to billet military forces or provide materials save when being fairly compensated
e) All freeman have the right to have any grievances heard by royally appointed judges in a timely manner.
f) No freeman may be imprisoned with a public hearing.
g) No freeman may be passed into servitude without order from the King.

7. Upon the 16th May 1703 the following mechanisms of government shall be put in place by all Kings.

a) A King's Council made up of 10 men in good standing in the eyes of the monarch.
b) A Freeman's Council made up of 10 land owning freeman thought to be in good standing with their peers.
c) A Grand Council made up the King's Council, Freeman's Council and the Deacon of the Faith.
d) A Royal Court with at least 9 appointed judges.
e) A Royal Militia which may not be larger than 10,000 men at any time.
f) A Royal Commission which shall be made up of 5 Freeman in good standing with the King.

8. The King's Council shall exist to oversee matters assigned to it by the King and may act in these matters with the King's authority. They are to provide sound and reasonable council to the King in all matters before decisions are made.

9. The Freeman's Council shall be selected by all Freeman every 10 years with any of its members becoming incapable of doing their duties to be replaced by their eldest son in a similar manner to royal inheritance. The Freeman's Council must approve any increase in taxation or any introduction of new taxation.

10. The Grand Council shall meet at least twice a year and shall advise the King in any manners of national importance. The Grand Council shall, if the King dies with a disputed inheritance, determine the line of succession.

11. Royal Judges may appoint magistrates to oversee cases if required. Any case arbitrated by a magistrate shall be able to be appealed to a judge should the accused present suspicion of misconduct or unfair treatment. Any appeal must be supported by a member of the Grand Council. The King is the ultimate appeal.

12. The Royal Commission is tasked with hearing petitions relating to the following of this decree. They shall have the power to make changes to this 20 years after it has come into force.

13. In order to create harmony among the three new Kingdoms there shall be a twice annual Royal Gathering to take place at Westlinton where the three Kingdoms territory interlocks.

14. No Kingdom may enter into an agreement that shall endanger the others.

15. No Kingdom may enter into an agreement that shall change this document

16. No treaty may be entered into by one Kingdom without consent of the others.

17. No Kingdom may wage war against the others.

18. Should a Kingdom be attacked it is the duty of the others to come to their aid.

19. Should the bloodline of one Kingdom die out that Kingdom's Grand Council may appoint from the siblings of the Kings of the other two Kingdoms a new King.

20. No marriage may be entered into that would see the Kingdoms fall under the same King.

This decree is intended to allow the Kingdoms to thrive and it is the wish of Queen Anne that they shall forever be kind and loving towards each other.

Since the issuing of the Pactum Regina Anne it has been seen as a cornerstone of the Kingdom however a few changes did take place prior to the date of 16th May 1703. Some of these were made by Queen Anne herself before her death in 1705.

- 1693 - The Overseer Decree - Created the position of a Royal Overseer. This individual must be of royal blood and is tasked with representing the United Kingdom in discussions with other nations. They though can not agree to terms but are expected to present terms to the three monarchs who then will via a majority vote accept or deny them.

- 1747 - The Council's Act - At the 2nd Royal Gathering that year it was agreed that the Royal and Freeman councils would now consist of "at least 10" rather than a stipulated 10. The Act also insisted that Grand Council's must be made up of "an equal representation of at least 10 members of each council with the total number being even. The Deacon of the Faith shall have the deciding vote if ballots are tied."

- 1789 - "The 1% Act" - It was determined that no Kingdom could have a military force bigger than 1% of the population of the largest Kingdom.

-1844 - The Combined Military Act - It was determined that each Kingdom would reduce their militia forces to no more than 20,000 and that a combined military under the Overseer would be raised. This was done to ensure the United Kingdom was better able to defend against foreign invasion.

1906 - The Voting Right Act - It was determined that text of saying " The Freeman's Council shall be selected by all Freeman every 10 years" should be changed to 5 years, that a seat on the Council would only be inherited for 100 days before an election for that seat be called and that "Freeman" would be a term extended to all subjects over the age of 30 and all men who owned land worth over a set value regardless of age.

1926 - The Voting Age Act - Voting Age was reduced to 18 for all people regardless of land ownership however some rules for qualification do remain such as felony disenfranchisement and residency rules.

LORSCHISM

The vast majority of people in Eskdale practice the faith of Lorschism. According to this faith the God Lorsch created the world by splitting himself in three to form the land, sea and sky. Next to bring life into the world he further split himself into three to form the mind, body and spirit of the first human, a woman called Arwen. Lorsch eventually gave Arwen three children, Eoghan, Morcant and Aoife. It is from these four creations of Lorsch that all human life has descended.

After some time the descendants of the first four humans began to lose their connection to Lorsch and so he sent over time six Emissaries to help guide man-kind and these have shaped our knowledge of man-kind.

The Emissaries

1. Áed the Originator

Áed was sent to help guide the people back to matters of showing their faith to Lorsch. He was a famed warrior in his day and upon having been injured and left for dead in battle the god Lorsch revealed himself to Áed and in return for returning him to Mundus set before him the task of spreading the rules of the faith. This saw him impose a regime of prayers twice a day, fasting for a day a month, making sacrifices at the solstices and many other small rituals. Áed began training others to continue the teachings of Lorsch but was killed by an evil spirit called Branwen murdered him.

2. Seisyll the Builder

Seisyll was a Blacksmith who was saved from a smithy fire by Lorsch. He had been an extremely pious man and sensing that he had a role to play for the faithful Seisyll was saved. He was tasked with constructing a home for the spirit of Lorsch to reside and is famed as building the first Temple in the faith. He also encoded the rules given to Áed onto the walls ensuring that a permanent record of them was made. He is also considered not just a physical builder for the faith but also a spiritual builder as he traveled extensively to help spread the words of Lorsch. Seisyll died when the evil spirit Branwen had transformed herself into a replica of his horse and while fording a river disappeared making Seisyll drown.

3. Nechtan The Teacher

Nechtan was an orphan boy who was lost wandering the woods when an old man took him in and raised him for the next ten years. By the time he had reached adulthood Nechtan was more knowledgeable in the ways of Lorsch than any human who had come before him. It was only at this point that the old man was revealed to be Lorsch himself as he had been concerned that man-kind was losing its way. Lorsch tasked his adoptive son with preparing others to help spread his teachings and as a result Nechtan recruited 18 individuals who became the first formally trained Priests of Lorsch. Nechtan was eventually accused by non-believers of spreading false ideals and executed by being thrown from a cliff. It is told however that as he fell spirits sent by Lorsch took hold of him and carried him off to paradise.

4. Nynniaw the Writer

Nynniaw was a young Prince who left his family so that he could worship Lorsch. He dedicated himself to learning everything he could from the Priests and determined that for the faith to continue to grow the words of Lorsch would need to be written down in places other than the Temple walls. He is credited with writing the Library of Lorsch, which despite its name is in fact only three books. In these he codified the rituals, the teachings and the rules of the God. He was able to record rituals of great power and importance some of which had been performed directly by Lorsch. In an attempt to learn Lorsch's power Branwen tried to steal the three books and Nynniaw died fending off this evil and preserved the safety of them.

5. Eigyr the Redeemed.

Eigyr was the first and only female Emissary. Lorsch was becoming angry at the way man-kind was allowing certain groups to be subjegated and believed this marked a moment when man-kind could have begun to stray away from him. Eigyr was given a redefined list of rules about the faith. It included how it should act towards other faiths and covered some ground that had not been done so by earlier rules. Lorsch was pleased with the work that Eigyr had done in making the faith stronger. Branwen sensing the Eigyr was becoming too prideful corrupted her and had her reveal many secrets of Lorsch to her including some of the rituals only Lorsch could perform that allowed him to have control over all creation. Branwen convinced Eigyr to write a new version of sacred texts for her including these rituals and having once handed them over destroy all other sacred texts. At the last moment Eigyr saw through Branwen's deception and sacrificed herself to destroy Branwen. The same action that saw the spirit of evil, Branwen destroyed, also condemed the text containing all the teachings and Lorsch begin to disintegrate. Thankfully Eigyr had a young Priest called Sionann by her side.

6. Sionann the Scribe

Seeing her mentor Eigyr dead and the only copy of the sacred texts beginning to disintegrate it is said that Sionann began to copy them down in a new book thus preserving them for the future of mankind. Without thought she copied down all the texts including those that Branwen had wished to discover that contained the secret rituals Lorsch used to control creation. Having finished writing hundreds and hundreds of pages of text without pausing, without sleep, food or water she began to die of exhaustion having saved the faith. Lorsch was so proud of her that he made her writings unable to be destroyed. She in her final moments of life understood that she had without thinking copied down 12 pages of text that contained the "dangerous verses" and removed them tasking her brother Connla to ensure these pages did not fall into the hands of Branwen should the evil spirit return to Mundus somehow. Connla therefore upon his sister's death became the first Legate of Lorsch.

The faith is today guided by the Legate of Lorsch who is to lead the faith in a similar way as to the Pope does the Catholic Church and their primary duty is to ensure the 12 pages do not get discovered.

KEY PEOPLE

The Leader of the Lorchism faith Deacon William Oakdale

Today the faith is governed by a hierarchy of Priests. The head of this hierarchy is the Deacon of the Faith and he is very similar to the Catholic Pope. The Deacon is responsible for helping guide the work of the faith and promoting it as and when necessary. He also has the casting vote in any Grand Council votes. The Deacon serves from appointment until death or resignation. They however can be replaced should a delegation of 16 "Guides" present a petition in the annual Council of Lorsch which takes place every April to discuss the future of the faith.

The hierarchy of the faith has five steps.

Deacon - Like the Catholic Pope they set out policy and leadership of the faith and manage the faiths affairs.

Guides - There are 31 of them and they are selected by the Deacon, they serve until death or retirement. They are primarily concerned with the day to day running of the faiths affairs.

Ovate - They are responsible for a geographic area that may contain up to a million people. There are currently around 67 ovates in Eskdale.

Bard - Responsible for a small geographic area such as a town or city.

Priest - Responsible for an individual temple.

Custodian - Responsible for supporting the work of a priest. There are three types of Custodian. The Custodian Scholars are responsible for helping teach the faith and prepare for rituals and are seen as junior priests. Custodian Builders are responsible for the physical upkeep of the faiths property and Custodian Guards are responsible for the physical care of the faithful and in the past were a military individual but now their work focuses more on providing charitable and physical help for those in need in the community such as running homeless shelters.

KEY TEACHINGS

The faith has a set of over arching rules that are followed having been given to Áed they are known as the Values of Lorsch and are as follows.

1. In all things, strive to cause no harm.
2. When in another's home, show them respect or else do not go there.
3. Do not take that which does not belong to you unless it is a burden to the other person and they cry out to be relieved.
4. Do not complain about anything to which you need not subject yourself.
5. Do not kill non-human animals unless you are attacked or for your food.
6. Behave fairly to your neighbour
7. Dedicate a share of your efforts to the greater good
8. There is only one God and his name is Lorsch.
9. Do not speak ill of Lorsch for all things happen according to his plan.
10. Do not speak falsely of others.
11. Honor the ancestors, teachers, elders, and leaders.

These eleven rules have formed the basis of the Lorschism faith and its modern day teachings. Many laws of the Kingdom of Eskdale originate from these.

His Excellency The Royal Overseer Stanley Keyes
Duke of Pendelton Moor

Duties

The Royal Overseer is responsible for the handling of discussions that involve the three Kingdoms and another nation. In order to do this they are in regular contact with the three monarchs to ensure they are fully aware of the wants and needs of each of the monarchs. When needed they are responsible for leading delegations to meet with other nations and may negotiate freely however for any agreement to enter law they are required to then get permission of a majority of the monarchs for the treaty or agreement to become legal. In addition should any monarch wish to have meetings with any other nation they are required to get the Overseer to either attend or send a representative.

The Overseer is elected by the Grand Council from a shortlist of nominees drawn up by the three monarchs and they serve a period of four years before fresh elections are help. There are no term limits for how long an individual may serve however tradition dictates that no one serves more than three consecutive terms.

The Overseer maintains a staff of their own and also oversees the administration of the nation's overseas embassies. The Overseer must be of "Royal Blood" and traditionally has tried to include a member of each monarchs family in their staff.

The Current Overseer

Stanley Keyes is a distant cousin of King HenryIII of Papcastle.

He was born in 1949 and became the Duke of Pendleton Moor in 1982. He served in the military as an Engineer between 1970-1982 leaving only when he became a Duke. He was in 1983 offering a seat in the Overseer's Office and acted as a junior adviser on military matters until 1991 when his cousin Henry III made him part of the King's Council. He served in various positions for Henry III and this included several stints on the Grand Council. In 2004 he rejoined the Overseer's office as the Deputy Overseer under Duke Fitzgerald Simons from Thornhill. In 2012 he was nominated by King Henry III for the Overseer position and won 3/4 of the vote. He was relected unopposed in 2016 and with 70% of the vote in 2020. He has confirmed that he will not stand again in 2024 in line with tradition.

The Duke has been married twice. He first married in 1974 to Annabelle Wallis (b.1950) the couple had two children, Archibald (b.1975) and Rose (b.1977). Annabelle died after a short illness in 2007. In 2014 he remarried  Lady Samantha Whitelock (b.1980), the couple have a single child, Mildred (known as Millie) who was born in 2015.

THE ORDER OF CONNLA

Sacred teachings of the Lorsch faith tells the story of how the final of Gods Emissaries, a young priestess called Sionann sacrificed herself by writing the religious texts non-step when the only original copies were disintegrating before her. Sadly the only remaining text she had to copy from contained a section known as the "dangerous verses" and without thought in her desperate desire to complete the task before her death he included them. In her final breaths before dying of exhaustion she tasked her younger brother with removing the pages and ensuring they did not fall into the hands of evil. There are many tales of what Connla did with the pages. Some believe that he burnt them while others say the power they contained ensured they survived the flames. Others believe that the text was entombed with Sionann at a unknown location which mankind was never meant to find. There are some who believe that the texts contains information that at some point humanity would need and so Connla separated the pages and had them taken by trusted followers to different parts of Mundus.

While the figure of Connla is a largely mythological one there are historic pointers to him having been at least partly a real person at some point in history. Most historians today believe that Connla was in part a creation of the 2nd Legate of the Faith, a man called Jereal. He is thought to have codified the various texts of the faith in approx. 350 B.C from a variety of different faiths that shared similar stories and ideas. Historians now believe he created the idea of Connla being a bridge between the Emissaries and mankind in order to legitimise his position as Legate. This would naturally cast doubts over the existence of the "Dangerous Verses" however they have become a key part of the faith and many rumours and prophecies about them have been born over the centuries.

In 75 A.D the then Legate of the Faith was a man called Toban and he founded the Order of Connla. The aim of the order was to "Protect the Safety of Mankind". The manner by which they work and their membership has always been kept rather secretive and this  added to their mystique. In 1914 the Legate of the Faith was Robert Askenville and he gave an insight into the Order by allowing for the first time some of its members to wear a uniform and emblem having been granted special duties within the faith. Those who are publicly part of the Order are still very secretive about exactly what they do however the fact so many of these people have been respected scholars or military figures have lead many to consider them "Warrior Scholars" and it is thought they are studying ways to either counter-act the "Dangerous Verses" should they be unleashed on mankind or in some cases it is believed that they are guarding the texts.

Not public knowledge so not known IC

The Order is currently made up of about 500 individuals organised into two uneven parts. Members are either "Quills" or "Blades" depending upon their primary role. A "Quill" is generally tasked with seeking out information on behalf of the faith. In the past this has included digging up dirt on political figures who speak unfavourably of the faith or try and otherwise lessen the faiths influence. This has even seen them act as lawyers in prosecutions against people deemed to be heretics or more recently damaging the reputation of the faith. They also work to influence the spread of the faith in foreign communities or work to expand the faiths access to information. "Quills" are therefore part lawyer, part scholar, part spy, part propagandarist.

"Blades" meanwhile provide a combination of close protection for key figures, intimidation of people seen as problems, they guard instillations if needed and have through history carried out assassinations and even attempted to foster coups. They are generally military trained either having been recruited to the Order and then sent into the military to be skilled up or having been recruited while in the military.

In terms of recruitment members personally recommend a new member who is approved by the Orders leader who is known as the Cleric of Connla. The Cleric reports directly to the Legate.

Those who are permitted to be public members of the Order may formally wear the faith's symbol flanked by a bow on one side and a quill on the other as a silver badge. One of the most prominent public members is Prince William of Papcastle who is an experienced lawyer and served in the military as a Military Police officer for ten years. He was recruited in 2017 and is often used as a kind of spokesman for the faith and the Order when required.

THE GEOGRAPHY OF THE COMMONWEALTH

GEOGRAPHY OF WESTLINTON

The Commonwealth Quarter

This is the heart of the Commonwealth. It is here that you will find the vast majority of buildings needed for the administration of the Commonwealth such as the Grand Council building, High Court, Temple of Lorsch and the Order of Connla HQ. It is in the building today named Queen Anne's Palace that the nations founding documents were created. The Quarter has its own police force which is unique in the fact that while the rest of the Commonwealth have police wearing blue uniforms the Wetslinton Royal Constabulary wear green jackets if a NCO and a red if an officer.

THE GRAND COUNCIL BUILDING

There has stood a meeting hall of some sort on this spot since the 10th Century. The most recent incarnation of the building was completed in 1909 following a fire which damaged much of the old. The building is rather unimposing compared to many nations Parliament buildings however when debating the reconstruction it was determined that the building could not expand beyond its original footprint. The building is only in operation for around 90 days a year for Council business and the day to day work done here revolves around supporting the Royal Overseer and is carried out by his administration team. The clock on the tower has four faces, each bearing the coat of arms of either one of the monarchs or the family of the Overseer. Whenever a monarch dies their face is taken down and replaced, when an Overseer reaches the end of their term of office they are presented with their own clock face as a memento of their term in office.

THE TEMPLE OF LORSCH

The Temple of Lorsch is the most sacred place for worshippers of Lorschism. It stands on a site that has had some kind of building on it since the 5th Century BC. The current Temple though was constructed in the 13th Century and at one time held the title for tallest building in the nation. Its tower stands at 75 meters. It today is used not only for religious services but also has taken over nearby buildings and operates a museum of the faith, a library and a theological training school for future members of the Priesthood. Despite it at one time serving also as the residence of the Deacon of the Faith that building is now the museum and the Deacon has a residence away from the Temple.

QUEEN ANNE'S PALACE

Despite having the name Queen Anne's Palace the famous "Mother" of the Commonwealth spent only six months here. It was during this time however she authored the The Pactum Regina Anne in 1688 following the death of her husband King Richard. This document laid the foundation for the formation of the modern Commonwealth and as such the Palace has become a central part of the nations folklore. The Palace was traditionally used as the residence of the monarchs chief Minister. Following the penning of  The Pactum Regina Anne she moved to the countryside where she lived out her life as a frequent contributor to matters of state. The Palace today is used for special state occasions but its main focus is of a museum where one of the four original Pactum Regina Anne copies is viewable by the public along with many other documents written by the Queen. Its extensive grounds are a popular picnic place during the summer and host an annual winter festival.

ORDER OF CONNLA HQ

The Order is a group that are in the service of the Lorsch faith. They are seen by many as being a cross between scholars, priests, poets and even rumors of soldiers. Legend has it Connla was the brother of the final Emissary of the Faith Sionann the Scribe. When it appeared the holy texts would be destroyed Sionann worked non-stop to write them from memory before dying of exhaustion. In her haste she included passages deemed "evil" by Lorsch and Connla removed these and gave instructions for follows of Lorsch to ensure they never were discovered. It is told Sionann wrote the texts on the site where her brother raised a building following her death. It is possible for pilgrims to come and visit however around 1/3 of the site is out of bounds for visitors who are not members of the Order or have gained prior permission.

OOC - Not publicly known - The building is home to various organisations designed at helping the Order carry out tasks that may be deemed "dubious" by the Deacon. This has historically been undermining other faiths thought to threaten the Lorsch faith in Eskdale, assassinating members of the royal families and spreading misinformation. In some ways the HQ is part Temple, part monastery and part private intelligence agency.
