EARLY HISTORY

Pre-History
The first people who arrived in Quintopia Bay were hunter-gatherers who then acquired knowledge of agriculture. They had a very advanced irrigation systems and terraces built. Some early villages had trade with neighboring villages. While ____ Kingdoms rose and fell, the tribes just traded with them, even supporting both sides. The only battles the rich tribes had were against each other.

Early Tribal Wars
After the collapse of the civilization, different provinces formed tribes. There were at least 20 tribes but some sources state that 100 tribes dotted the once great culture. The most prominent, however, were the Wewazkangzandit tribe, Caste tribe, and the Paanay tribe. They usually engaged in tribal wars for disagreements, invasion of another tribe, and assassination of political leaders. The most prominent and most powerful tribe was the Wewazkangzandit tribe, usually referred to as "Wewazkangz". The winning tribe would usually rape women, kill all the children, and enslave all men. It changed when an empire needed a powerful leader.

OOC: Not canon for a long time
First Stormontian Empire
The death of Catherine I has destabilized the Empire of Stormontion. The following heirs were then assassinated until no direct descendent remained. The ministers then decided to pass the problem to another group of people, the ancient Quintelians. They decided that the strongest tribe will have the throne and a new bloodline will be made. After a month of fighting, proclaimed winner was the Wewazkangz tribe. The new ruler, Emperor Wewazkangz, Emperor of Stormont, was publicly declared in 50BC.

Rise and Fall of Wewazkangz Dynasty In the First Stormontian Empire
Emperor Wewazkangz, after his coronation, enacted countless laws that helped the First Stormontian Empire rise again. All rebellion were quelled, the inflation fell, science and mathematics flourised, and peace prevailed. He even had the ambition of exploring other lands, but, he died in 4BC due to his old age of 96. His son, Weyabang, ruled the Empire until 1BC, the year when a typhoon hit the coasts, and flooded the plains. He drowned in a flash flood in a far away province. His son, Wemalit, also the last Emperor before the fall of the First Stormontian Empire, started his rule in 1BC and lasted until 12AD. He tried to invade other lands, while his army grew less by the day. Rebels from Quintopia Bay to Stormontia rose up against the empire, overthrew Emperor, and assassinated him. Quintelian tribes and Stormontia were separate once again. Quintelian tribes began plundering each other.

MIDDLE PERIOD AND EARLY ECCLESIASTICAL COLONIZATION

Quintelian Kingdom

Following the fall of the First ____ Empire, Quintelian kingdoms ruled over the coasts. A feudal system was established in most of the area. Although Emperor Wemalit was killed, he left 34 sons and daughters with his 5 wives. His oldest son, King Wehari, married countless wives that all of his, and his brothers' and sisters', descendants were to be in the upper class of society. The feudal system meant that anyone who had the title "Wewazkangz" had properties of land while others were either slaves or soldiers. The rich were so inbred that genetic diseases were rampant in the rich class. They, being dumb inbreeds, blamed the poor to be the culprits, and went to war with them. This sparked a war between the rich and the poor. The kingdom existed between 12 AD until 1201

Quintelian Bush Wars

Two days after the declaration of war, cities were easily destroyed and lost; and to this day, ruins of cities are being discovered. The rich were purged by the healthy poor, from 190,000 people who held the title, it went down to about 100. Those who survived married with farmers. Farms and villages were separately ruled by landlords who were once peasants.

Wars between these landlords began with disputes over as simple as "Who owns that tree" or "Who owns that house". A series of wars, also called the Quintelian Bush Wars, between kingdoms, or in rare occasion, itself. The former cities are ruins used as battlegrounds between kingdoms. The Wewazkangz stayed away from wars and settled in the coasts. They learned that inbreeding is bad, and the title spread faster than before. They still, however, continued slavery. Guards patrolled the border between the peaceful Wewazkangz and the warring villages. This lasted from 1202 until 1615.

Early Ecclesiastical Empire

Exclusion missionaries "discovered" Quintopia Bay. They landed in the coasts of Quintopia Bay and the natives made first contact. The missionaries went back to the Ecclesiastical State to report about their "discovery". After 20 days, they went back with 35 ships to colonize and exploit Quintelia. The first colonist, Miguel Quint along with his wife Ella Quint, made a blood pact with the Wewazkangz and promised them the land they desire, if they arevwilling to embrace their religion. The Wewazkangz agreed and destroyed all the staues and images of Bathala as if he died and lost control. Christianity was spread and temples were built. The warring villages and tribes stopped fighting each other and began to fight back against the Wewazkangz and the Oranians. In the end, the tribes surrendered and were subjected under Oranian rule. Captain-General Michael Quint named the lands he conquered "Quintelia" after his wife. The couple were assassinated in the early revolution of peasants in 1620. The said revolution was easily put down, and the conspirators were executed.

The Ecclesiasticals exploited the colony for cotton, iron, and cocoa. Small-scale revolutions happened all throughout the colonial times. It was mostly thanks to corrupt priests and friars who plundered the people, falsely accused the natives, raped children, refused to bury people due to personal grudges, and even murdered his own aides. These corruption were all swept under the rug by head bribes to higher officials. Those that knew the truth were immediately silenced through murder. This went on for centuries. Landlords, on the other hand, overtaxed the natives: buying the local produce at a very low price, lands were sold at very high prices, and only those from the Wewazkangz and a few lucky others had the opportunity to study in universities for medicine, law, or engineering. The others were mostly taught locally about Catholicism and were exposed to Ecclesiastical propaganda.

ECCLESIASTICAL COLONIZATION AND FIGHT FOR INDEPENDENCE
[/b]

In 1744, a secret revolutionary group, "Dagohoyanan", led by Francis Dagohoy, aged 20 at that time, retreated to the mountainous regions to start his own free nation. He amassed a population of 1,000 people, wanting to escape from taxes and corrupt friars and officials. The Ecclesiasticals, of course, didn't like this and sent a warning to the group. The Dagohoyanan rejected it and prepared for an attack. The Battle of Knotworth between the Dagohoyanan and the Ecclesiastical Army with the aide of Wewazkangz lasted for 3 days which ended in a stalemate. The two sides were exhausted from fighting and made a compromise: the Dagohoyanans will be pardoned and given a more relaxed government if they surrender. The compromise was signed with blood, and more than 5,000 men and women were pardoned by the government. All this began when a local temple refused to bury his wife, Emily Dagohoy. Some historians praise his bravery, others disagree and call him coward, but there's one thing we are certain. That he was a national hero of Quintelia.

The Dagohoyanan revolt inspired countless insurgencies in the colony. One of which will see an independent Quintelia. The "Sinilang" group led by Andrew Bonifacio, along with Joseph Risal and Anthony Luna, led the uprising that will drive the Oranians away. The name "sinilang" directly translates to "born". It all started in 1874 when Andrew Bonifacio and Dawson Merrit teaming up to steal weapons from a warehouse in the suburbs of Bulacan. They started recruiting secretly, including doctor and writer Joseph Risal, and the brothers General Anthony Luna and Matthew Luna. Bonifacio, Merrit, Risal, and the two Lunas went to Celestis to study and meet up with another revolutionary group, The Quintelian Freedom League, to discuss about the certain revolution of Quintelia. The Quintelian Freedom League (TQFL) was more of a propagandist but peaceful movement while the Sinilang was a more violent group. TQFL failed in its goals and was absorbed by Sinilang and sailed back to Quintelia.

In 1878, Joseph Risal wrote the novel "The Reign of Greed" in which he described the corruption of a few priests and friars along with the stereotype that natives are oblivious from the problems of the nation. It was secretly distributed to the elite thanks to the Sinilang. Two years later, Risal  wrote a sequel "Touch Us Not " where he writes about the main character from the previous novel where he describes the violent revolution of Quintelians grant them freedom. The sequel was a large hit with the public so some Oranians discovered the propaganda which lead to the subsequent discovery of Sinilang. 10 months later, Rizal released his third and final novel to the trilogy, "Freedom At Last", where he describes a free and independent Quintelia flourish. He was arrested in 1882 and executed through a firing squad. His death and novels shocked Ecclesiastical State and opened the eye of Pope Leo Xlll.

The death of Joseph Risal did not deter Sinilang, rather, it inspired them. After countless battles and skirmishes against the foreign invaders, Quintelia saw its independence in 1885. The constitution of Quintelia was written and its flag was weaved and waved in the home of Bonifacio, who is also the president at that time. He and Pope Leo XII signed an armistice , a defense pact, and free trade between the two nations, and Quintelia was finally recognized as a nation.

POST-INDEPENDENCE

The first constitution of Quintelia was written in the then Legislative Building of Quintelia (LBQ) by President Bonifacio, Vice- President Matthew Luna, and Secretary of State Gregory del Pilar. The first article of the constitution states that "The Democratic Republic of Quintelia shall be ruled by a democratically elected president."

Quintelia, thanks to the Ecclesiastical State, easily gained a spot in the world stage with exports ranging from tiger and bear fur to tomatoes and potatoes. The Ecclesiastical State heavily invested on its former colony. A standing army and navy was expanded, with the first battleship the QRB Independence, built by Ecclesiastical State as an act of friendship, which was retired only 5 months later and turned into a museum.

All seemed perfect until the assassination of Bonifacio, Luna, and del Pilar in three separate places in three different ways in 1890. Andrew Bonifacio was shot at point-blank in the presidential office. Anthony Luna was stabbed 63 times while fighting against 5 different assassins. Gregory del Pilar was gunned down by multiple people while riding his horse. Their families mysteriously disappeared. This made Dawson Merrit, the Secretary of Treasury, the president. He ruled with an iron fist and changed the constitution to make him and his family the everlasting rulers of Quintelia. The public was outraged and began to protest for a just system. The protesters were shot down by cannons and mortars from the LBQ, which killed 159 of the 170 protesters.

He feared that his power will be stolen by the elite Wewazkangz, so, in 1895 he ordered all those who are part of the Wewazkangzandshit tribe to be killed. He even persued those outside of Quintelia, even in Ecclesiastical State and Nexon. Only less than 3,000 Wewazkangzandshit members survived by hiding in the forests and farms. They escaped to North Stormont before they closed their borders. This was known as the "Quintelian Genocide" where 4,678,916 of the 20,899,149 Quintelians were murdered, with different nations cutting ties and imposing tariffs on the nation. He also ordered the death of foreigners who tried to intervene with the government. Propaganda was spread amongst the people that Catholicism and the Wewazkangz are why the former leaders failed.

DARK AGES OF QUINTELIA

Dawson Merrit proclaimed himself the Emperor of Quintelia in 1898 and treated the people worse than any nation at that time. All embassies were abandoned and the genocide even affected foreigners who were visiting the nation. Educated people were forced in labor camps and in military service. All religious buildings and sites were demolished and vandalized by the government. Dawson Maerrit succumbed to illness in December 5 1899 at the age of 77. He was replaced by his son, Arthur Merrit. Arthur ruled harsher, implementing communism. Everyone were forced to work 19 hours a day just to support the failing state. Every paper bills were burned and most coins were melted to be used for industry, with the exception of his amd his friends' treasures.

The average people of Quintelia did not have the adequate needs of a person, let alone the freedom of information. All nations cut ties with Quintelia, trade ceased to exist, and Kingdom of North Stormont closed the borders. All seemed hopeless for a failing state until the few surviving Wewazkangz escaped to Orania to pleaded for help. Orania accepted and started trading with Quintelia, just to secretly smuggle and save the people. About a hundred thousand men, women, and children were saved, with most being instantly trained and drafted to the "Second Revolutionary Army" (SRA).

Back on Quintelia, few former students of the Quintelian Military Academy formed a guerrilla movement named "The Hunters". They recruited farmers, fishermen, and miners to join them. Their first need were weapons, so they raided a heavily-guarded armory where many arms were stored; the said armory was cleared the next day. Their first mission was to ambush and liberate work-camps, where they succeeded in 1 hour without ahh casualties. News about this spread throughout the nation. Merrit tried to silence it with propaganda but it was too late. Their numbers increased from 45 students when it was formed to 15,000 a year later. After a few attacks and skirmishes, they gained radio contact with the Ecclesiasticals. The Ecclesiasticals used then as support for the upcoming revolution.

THE BATTLE FOR FREEDOM

Pre-War

Ecclesiastical ships have been secretly sending weapons to the native guerrillas. Spies were sent to dockyards to sabotage and relay information about their navy. Local revolutionary groups set formations of soldiers as they were told by Ecclesiasticals. Word about a revolution was spreading silently, being passed between person to person.

The Battle of Quintopia Bay (Lungsod Bay)

Smoke arose from the horizon, with the sun high in the sky. It was a normal day for Quintelia, everyone near the port thought it was just another Ecclesiastical ship bringing cargo and taking resources, except it wasn't. The smoke grew larger, and more, until about 50 pillars of smoke were seen. A deafening explosion was heard, and a large splash soon followed. The Quintelian Navy was alarmed, and 65 ships were deployed. Explosions followed each other, with screams of men and splashes of water were heard. After an hour of the battle, with the smoke clearing away, victorious Ecclesiasticals cheared as they began the bombardment of Port Baybayin, the Headquarters of the Quintelian Navy. There were no survivors from the shelling. The ships docked on the port, with the sun setting, shining upon the remnants of the Quintelian navy. A 21 cannon salute was hard, marking the beginning of the Second Revolution, giving a signal to the rebels in the city.

Battle of Lungsod

Outside the city, multiple work camps and possible hideouts for Merrit were liberated. Trucks full of produce going from farm to city were replaced with soldiers. It was 1903, and cars and trucks were already used. Supporters of Merrit were round up and sent to the Headquarters of the Hunters.

Inside the city, the Quintelian army fought against two sides. Bridges were destroyed, forcing themselves to focus against the Quintelian Guerrillas and cutting off the Ecclesiastical units. The Guerrillas pushed there way to the last bridge that isn't demolished yet, and heavily guarded it. They rushed to it and fired from behind, with now the support from Ecclesiasticals. Even with thick smoke, the Quintelian Army were easily seen thanks to their colorful blue and yellow uniform, making them easy targets. The allied forces reached the LBQ at around 9:45 pm, local time.

Storming of the Legislative Building

The Executive Building of Quintelia was the first target, but it was already evacuted with the exception of some ambush teams and traps. The next target was the LBQ, where it is known that an evacuation room in the basement for the President, his family, and his office is located. At midnight, smoke barrages hit near the LBQ on all sides. The two armies opened fire to all sides of the building. With the cover from the smoke and guards distracted, few of them infiltrated the building. They killed the guards silently with their knives, until they were found. An hour of fighting later, the front door was compromised and the soldiers poured in. Every unarmed person was arrested, until they arrived in the basement. Arthur Merrit was standing by the ebtrance, holding a revolver aimed at the door. When it opened, he immediately shot bullet-by-bullet, or just six continues shots before he himself found a bullet on his head. His family was arrested and exiled to Foxtrove.

"Freedom At Last"

News on the defeat of Merrit spread. A democratic election was held with the old constitution, and the winner was Edward Laurel. He and the Ecclesiasticals signed a treaty, a mutual defense pact, and trade agreements. Although no-one who fought in the war is alive today, the spirit against a communist country lives on.

Quintelia Rebuilds Itself

Pres Ed's Decisions

President Edward B. Laurel was 65 when he was elected. He was the Senate President during the Bonifacio administration and the Mayor of Lungsod City during the Merrit dynasty. After the second revolutionary war, a proxy government was installed by the Ecclesiastical State for 5 months, before the election of the President.

During his first term, he focused on rebuilding the Lungsod City. A new building, The Palace, replaced the EBQ as the seat of the government. The LBQ was renovated, and all bridges were rebuilt. The veterans who fought against Merrit were given state pensions, while those that were loyal to Merrit were given a second chance. The Lungsod City returned to bring the "Pearl of Ardia".

The Palace before the 2010 Mutiny.

On his second term, he built rehabilitation centers and asylums for those that were over-worked. Schools were reestablished, work camps were given to the poorer population of farmers, miners, or fishers. On a more political note, 5 major parties emerged. Laurel wasn't in one of them, although he favored the Partido de Federalista over others. He finished his rule on July 5, 1914.
