Vignettes / Ezithea Chronicles

Olamtali I

“Keep it steady!” Takuq commanded, his vision solely focused on the ball that had evaded him for so long. It was almost his. He could feel it. He just needed his navigator to play the role well and the game as as good as theirs. It had been a hard fought one too each team having earned a remarkable five points each, now it was a matter of who wanted it more. Though desire played but a small part of it. The true test of was which team could fluidly move as one, be so focused and in sync that their play would be flawless. Only the most compatible would be rewarded with the fruits of victory.

“Steady!” Takuq commanded again.

“Next time you navigate then, Tak!” came the annoyed reply of Takuq’s partner, Aglakti, their navigator.

“Maybe I will…” Takuq muttered under his breath. Yet they both knew it wouldn’t come to pass. Aglakti was simply a better navigator, and in turn Takuq was the better driver.

It had always been something Takuq held a suppressed envy for. He had always wanted to be a navigator yet his attempts at doing so always worked against his favor. He’d stumble a command and cost the team a point. Other times he was too harsh, and their team suffered a game for it, yet other times he was too hesitant giving away points that easily could have been theirs.

Even when Aglakti spent hours one-on-one to help him he never seemed to quite get the hang of it. One time he’d become so overcome with frustration at it all he’d verbally lashed out at Aglakti. As if his mentor had somehow intentionally been making it all too complicated for him. It was that night that fated Aglakti to be the navigator. Amidst it all Aglakti was patient with Takuq, emphasizing with him and even enduring the harsh immature verbal assaults his friend hurled at him.

“Tak! The ball!” Aglakti had practically screamed it.

A pit of despair had wrung itself inside of Takuq, who had allowed his mind to wander, lose focus. A pitiful attempt was made by him to catch the ball with his driving stick. The elongated pole with three pronged like teeth just barely missed the ball, instead scraping the dusty ground indenting three lines as it did so. The ball almost tauntingly remained still not even moved by the erratic motion of Takuq’s lunge.

It was then, the large grey tree trunk like leg of his opponent’s mount came into Takuq’s vision. First one leg then another, and soon enough the monstrous silhouette of the creature overshadowed the ball. With abject horror Takuq witnessed his opponent-driver rake up the ball with his own driving stick, in one fluid motion as if his driving pole were an extension of his own arm.

What followed was a blur, though Takuq was conscious of it. Witnessing but unable to react in any regard.

The trumpeting of their opponents Elephant mount preceded their dash to Takuq and Aglakit’s own net. Aglakit, undeterred, navigated their own elephant mount to intercept perhaps hoping that by some manner of luck the sheer size of the elephant would block their opponent scoring.
A trumpeting of its own in acknowledgement of Aglakits instruction, and the elephant made its own way towards the net. It was all for not though; everyone could tell. By the time Aglikat, Takuq, and their mount (Lak) had reached their opponent’s, the ball had already been shot by their opposing driver. Unremorsefully and with the velocity of determination the ball darted towards the net striking furthest inner bottom pole.

A final echoing ring of rubber on metal heralded Tukaq’s failure and his team’s loss. Tukaq was sure Aglakit was saying something to him, but he couldn't hear it. Or perhaps his mind, still reeling from his own failure, wouldn't allow him to hear. Even the loud roaring cheers and clapping of the spectators surrounding them seemed all but a faint and distant hum to him.

Such it was Tukaq and Aglakit had lost yet another game of Olamatli.

Context Notes:
Olamatli is a popular ball and stick game within Ezithea. The main goal is to 'drive' a ball into an opposing team's net to score points.
The game has three main participants that form a team:
- A driver whom controls a driving stick used to direct the ball.
- A Navigator whom directs and guides the teams mount
- A mount which is the most prominent feature of the game as mounts are often and traditionally Elephants, though variations of the game may substitute elephants for horses or camels.

The elephants of Ezithea are believed to originate from Kermah (Pending Kermah's approval), having migrated south into Ezithea millennia ago. The Ezithean elephant is noticeably smaller than its northern relatives making their taming and mount-ability relatively more of ease.

Annual Pilgrimage to Depart the 18th

The 18th of December marks the beginning of an annual pilgrimage from Sudmark to the Ecclesiastical State. The Christian holiday of Christmas, or the Birth of Jesus of Nazareth, is not recognized as a national celebration within Sudmark as either a religious or secular holiday. Despite this the annual pilgrimage has become ingrained within communities of Christian Practitioners in Sudmark as both a spiritual and a cultural undertaking. The Pilgrimage itself can be dated back to the earliest settlements of Sudmark by Derusmian settlers in the 18th and 19th centuries in which faith is believed to have played a major role in the establishment and societies of said settlements. The new settlements, lacking the great cathedrals of the old country and often absent any major religious institution beyond a village chapel themselves, would look to the holy city of Celestis for inspiration and spiritual guidance given both to the ES closer distance and its prestigious status among the Celestian Catholic world. Thusly the faithful would band together and journey by sea from their settlements in Sudmark to the Ecclesiastical State each year nearing the 25th in celebration and piety. The earliest voyages due to limitations in nautical technology would initiate a month prior to the 25th however as developments in technological progression would reach Sudmark the time constraints for voyages would progressively lessen. Today the journey often lasts a little less than a week and can alternatively be bypassed via aviation means. The journey will be conducted via a cruise liner currently docked within Eilenburg from which it will traverse through the Sargon Bay and along the coast of South Ardia docking at the Ecclesiastical shore city of Miragliano.

The Defense Ministry has made an official announcement that this year the FNS Höffner, a corvette class, will accompany the Pilgrimage as Escort. Though today little more thana ceremonial gesture and part of Sudmark Naval Culture, historically it was necessary for the Pilgrimage to be escorted by naval vessels to deter pirates and hostile naval vessels. These escorts were first provided by the Faithful themselves with those who held Whaling and nautical professions offering up their vessels to protect the pilgrimages. When Sudmark officially became a colony of the Derusmian Empire, colonial naval ships would take up this endeavor. Since then, it has traditionally been customary for the Sudmarker Navy to accompany the voyage for 2/3rds of its trek from which the Sudmark Navy will ceremonially pass on the pilgrimage to ES own navy “escort” which will accompany the pilgrimage for the Remainder of its trek into ES territorial waters. It is said that this year’s voyage will be seen off by Premier herself, the first such appearance from a Head of State of Sudmark since 2014 and the Long Winter.

Ardian Continental Conflict 1914-1918: A summary

By Manius Brusco
In association with the 14-45 Historical Society, Vrusa Institute & International Partners

The most widely known and perhaps impactful of the Waring Era conflicts, is that of the Ardian Continental Conflict lasting from roughly 1914 to 1945. Though it should be noted, that while the Ardian Continental Conflict is recognized as lasting for the duration of the Era fighting between the belligerents did not last the entire consecutive three decades of the Era. The belligerents of this war are often categorized as Pro-Ardia or Anti-Ardia in nature, though allegiances have been recorded to change due to events both as a result of and independent of the conflicts greater consequences. Chronologically the Ardian Continental Conflict can be divided into two segments, these being the 1914-1918 period and the 1932-1945 periods. This Conflict would officially end in 1945 with peace negotiations between the Ardian Coalition and Allied Powers following the usage of nuclear weapons by the Achkaerinese Empire against the Ardian Empire. The following exposé will briefly cover the First phase of the Ardian Continental War, commonly known as the First Ardian war or First World War, lasting form the years of 1914 to 1918 CE.

NOTE: Due to the chaotic nature of this period in Mundus’ history and the often scarce or, as of this writing, uncovered information this exposé will very briefly summarize the conflict with available information as of this time. It should be understood that while this work is an attempt to give structure and organization of the events, there may be pieces regarding unmentioned involvement or little coverage of countries or factions missing from this work. The 14-45 Historical society in association with our partners are currently working to uncover more information about the various conflicts of the time period. As such, subsequent exposes may be released to cover topics not mentioned in this work.

Background
Prior to the outbreak of the war in 1914 the Ardian Empire had become a Regional Power, influential through out the Cross Straits, Daunutal, and Kyne maritime regions as well as enjoying the status of the preeminent power within the Ardian Peninsula. The Empire also held overseas territories such as that of Djabidjan and benefiting from positive relationships with the Kingdom of Rhand, the restored Grimaldi Dyansty of the Heyran Kingdom and the Kingdom of Samantra. The Ardian Empire was also politically active in the region having hosted the exiled Tytorian Royal family from 1873 to 1909, and holding territory in what is now western Daito.  Despite this, by the late 19th century the Ardian Empire was growing stagnate with numerous historical conflicts with its neighbors and domestic troubles causing a gradual weakening of the Empires once believed undefeatable hegemony.

It is still unclear what exactly started the first period of the Continental war though it has been speculated that antagonization by the Empire against its neighbors, be it intentionally or indirectly, is a pivotal reason as to the cause. The Empire’s eastern territories of what is now Nueva Ardia has been noted to be a point of contention with its neighbor the Toshikawa Shogunate itself a notable power within the Peninsula boasting a powerful military and warrior culture. Meanwhile in the north the Empire of Daito a notable rival of Ardia, and one which lost territory to the Ardians in a previous conflict, would seek to reclaim its territories west of the Idai Mountains under the Reign of the Keiyo Emperor, lastly the overseas territory of Gowu, of Holy Empire of Achkaerin would prove to be a point of contention between the weakening Southern Empire and the growing Northern Empire.

Rokkenjiman Political Crisis
One year prior to the outbreak of the Greater Conflict, a political crisis would strike Rokknejima (then known as The Royal Provinces of Rokkenjima) in which financial polices enacted by Queen Rachel would prove unpopular and used as a political tool by Radical Republican elements against the Rokkenjiman Crown. Tensions within the country would boil over into an all-out civil war in pitting Royalist forces against Revel Republican Forces. The Defections of General Allen Smith and Admiral Pearson from the Royalist forces to the Republicans would come to play a pivotal role in the countries conflict securing a Republican Victory in 1915 and allowing the formation of the Federal Republic of Rokkenjima. Though it is speculated that various countries may have involved themselves, indirectly, in the Rokkenjiman civil-war for various reasons the conflict would be notable in the context of the region as a whole by changing the political landscape of the region and threatening maritime trade & security within the Ardian Gulf (now the Rokkenjiman Sea) and Daunutal Sea. Additionally the victory of the Republicans would see the formation of the First Republican state in the Region by popular revolt.

Belligerents & Theatres of War
The culmination of the geopolitical fallout of the Rokkenjiman civil-war and the grievances of the Ardian Empire with its neighbors is generally regarded as the cause of the Ardian Continental War, and the first phase of 1914-1918. This phase of the war can be divided into four theatres of war these being the Peninsula Theatre, the Daito Theatre, the Kyne Theatre and the Northern Ocean Theatre. While the respective alliances of the war are generally categorized into The Ardian Coalition(AC), and The Allied Powers(AP). Respectively, the following countries are recorded as being apart of each alliance; Ardian Empire (AC), Nueva Ardia (AC), Kingdom of Tytor (AC), Kingdom of Heyra-Bellefaye (AC), Kingdom of Samntra (AC) Emirate of Royal Seleucid (AC)*, Empire of Achkaerin(AP), Empire of Daito (AP), Toshikawa Shogunate (AP), and Cassiopeia (AP)*.

In the Daito Theatre of War The Keiyo Emperor (personal name Shigenori) would oversee his forces against the Ardian Occupation Force stationed in the regions west of the Idai Mountains. (A personal account has been submitted to The 14-45 Historical Agency recounting the story of Daitojin soldier Haruto Kimura which can be found here). In the Peninsula Theatre the Toshikawan Army and Ardian Army would find themselves in a fierce stalemate along the Nuvea Ardian-Toshikawa border. This front alone is speculated to be one of the most violent and brutal owning to accounts of prolonged trench warfare that would last throughout the entirety of the conflict even into the second phase lasting until 1945. The peninsula theatre is said to have the most belligerents present in land warfare with the AC receiving assistance from the Kingdom of Tytor, the Empire itself and Nueva Ardian Auxiliaries, among others, while the Toshikawan army formed the backbone of AP forces, supported by Achkaerenese forces via Gowu. Though fighting in the Peninsula theatre was relatively contained to the Nueva Ardian-Toshikawa land border, there have been some accounts of naval engagements in and around the waters surrounding the peninsula.

The Kyne Theatre and North Ocean Theatre’s are primarily understood to be naval centric in fighting with the AC forces comprised of the Samantran navy overseen by King Vladislav Godunov, the Heyra-Bellefaye navy overseen by King Charles VII, and the Ardian Navy. In contrast the AP Naval forces were primarily formed from Achkaerenese Navy led by Empire Henry Azurewind in the Northern Ocean, while the Daitojin Navy is said to have assisted in the Kyne Sea. Additionally, the Emirate of Royal Seleucid is known to have supported the Ardian Empire in Naval engagements primarily in securing sea lanes and access between the Kremeon and Kyne seas while securing the Matilda channel and overseeing their colonies in what is now the Andean Peninsula.

(*Though Casseopiea and the Emirate are known to have been associated with the AP and AC, respectively, little information is known about the two countries contribution or overall relationship with their alliances as of this writing.)

Tytorian Withdrawl
The end of the first period of the Ardian Continental Conflict (1914-1918) is generally marked with the gradual decline of the AC’s power capabilities. The first of these events, and perhaps the most impactful, is that of Tytorian withdraw from the conflict in 1917 due to political Turmoil and a Revolution. Prior to the conflict the policies of King Richard III would include the formation of a strong alliance between the Kingdom and the Ardian Empire. This alliance would come into play with Tytor providing much needed support for Ardian operations around the Cross Straits region and within the Peninsula theatre. Following the relative stalemate of the AC and AP along the Nueva Ardian-Toshikawa front, having devolved to trench warfare in all but name, and its heavy casualty rate for both sides would prove to be widely unpopular both among the general populace and the higher circles of Tytorian military leadership in disagreement with King Richard III’s policies and continued support for the Tyto-Ardian alliance.

Thusly in 1917 members of the Tytorian Military Leadership would enact a discreet coup against King Richard III forcing him to abdicate in which his son, King Christian II, would succeed him. This change in leadership would effectively end the Tyto-Ardian alliance with King Christian II, supposedly pressured by military Elements, officially withdrawing Tytor from the conflict. Five years later Chrstian II would also be the victim of a Coup led by Tytorian general Josiah Granger and the formation of the Second Federal Republic. The Withdraw of Tytor and the support it provided for Ardian Forces would increase pressure on the Empire to handle the Toshikawa front alone causing a further drain on resources, manpower, and morale.

Victory in Daito
The second event that would promulgate the end of the first period, would be the success of Daitojin and allied forces against the Ardian Coalition forces in the Daito Theatre. By 1917 AC and AP forces within Daito had become deadlocked in a stalemate similar to that of the Toshikawa-Nueva Ardian Front. The Central piece of this stalemate was the city of Saito a hotly contested economic and logistical center previously captured by Ardian forces in the First Battle of Saito of 1916.

A grave consequence of the Withdraw of Tytor from the conflict would see Ardian forces stretched increasingly thin with soldiers and equipment often exchanged between the Peninsula and Daito Theatres, while increased pressure to maintain Naval capabilities in the Kyne to secure logistical and deployment routes further drained resources. In 1917 Daiotjin forces led by Marshal (Gensui-Rikugun-Taishō in the native Daito language) Daisaku Higasayama would lay Siege on the city of Saito initiating the Second Battle of Saito. The longest battle of the Daito Theatre it would be fought from 1917 until 1918 when Daito Forces would overwhelm the Ardians and retake the city. A victory for the Daito and AP forces the battle would prove to be decisive in the Daito theatre.

Due to the high concentration of AC forces and equipment dedicated to the cities defense, its fall to Daito forces would result in the Ardians incapable of recovering or mounting an effective resistance. In a matter of months, the remaining territories of the Sagami Region under Ardian control would capitulate. Following an Armistice between Daito and the Military Leaders of Ardian Coalition the Daito Theatre would officially end in 1918 with a Daito/AP victory. Despite their victory and the full withdrawal of Ardian forces out of Diato, it is recorded that various regions would attempt to secure independence from Daito in the power vacuum left by the Ardians and the war weary Daitojin forces, leading to a continuation of fighting for two more years in what is called by some as the “Western Rebellions”. Though it has been alleged that the Ardian Empire or its allies played a role in these rebellions, these claims cannot be confirmed and have been disregarded as purely speculation derived from anti-Ardian Sentiment.

Conclusion
These two events are considered key elements in the ending of the first Period of the Ardian Continental Conflict. Though it has been recorded  that fighting would continue following the year of 1918, often in the form of sporadic naval skirmishes and border brawls along the Nueva Ardian-Toshikawa front, it is generally agreed upon by scholars that the official end of this first period of conflict, sometimes called World War I, the First Great War, or the First Ardian War, is dated as 1918 through a series of Armastice and Ceasefire Treaties between AC Forces and AP Forces. Though the fighting may have ended the fallout of the 1914-1918 period would see a politically turbulent and tense atmosphere In Mundus.

Despite outright fighting between Ardia and the AP ending during this period and not resuming until 1935, it is recorded that other conflicts would erupt or continue, sometimes involving belligerents of the two Alliances, despite the ending of the first period of Ardian Continental Conflict. Due to the chaotic nature of this period in history, records of these subsequent conflicts are scarce or not yet uncovered. The 14-45 historical society, in association with the Vrusa Institute and International partners will continue to search for more information on these subsequent conflicts. This ends this exposé covering the Ardian Continental Conflict of 1914-1918.

The Advent
A character Roleplay

The City of Brascroen Is the second most populace within Sudmark hosting an estimated populace of around 4.6 million inhabitants.  Often called the sunless Den of Vices given its extreme southern location, the city has made itself internationally known for its plethora of casinos, adult clubs, and other points of peculiar flavor. Straddling the outskirts of the inner steppe and bordering the Antalin to the south. Brascroen shines like a gleaming gem amidst the hazy fog of the sea and the scrub of the land. Its bright neon lights inviting all who wish to indulge themselves in their most hedonistic desires. Even the local government, though just barely tolerating the city has not attempted to crack down on the rampant black market that permeates throughout the city’s various alleyways and privatized docks, for fear of driving the prosperity Brascroen brings to the country as a whole. Indeed, among its many patrons one can often find disillusioned Coast and National Guard who have taken to the city to relieve themselves of their military duties, unsavory figures from all walks of life making a living through dishonest and often illegal means, and even the naive commoner who thought to take a chance at making it big through the city’s many opportunistic avenues.  It’s even said high profile officials from other countries the Welt over hold influence in the higher echelons of the city’s social networks. Of course, those are simply rumors; any scandal that may arise from the city involving a foreign official or two entirely a matter of coincidence as the Sudmark Government will be more than ready to reassure you. Besides either from disinterest or fear of jeopardizing diplomatic ties, the Sudmark government has more often than not refused to pursue such claims turning a blind eye to the cities less than savory side.

It is not just Vice and pleasure the city provides though. It may surprise many to learn Brascroen originated as a research outpost meant to study the vast natural phenomena of the Antalin. Now the Ehrentraud Institute of Research and Study, serves as the bastion of the more erudite inclined providing a refuge for those who come to learn and feast on knowledge rather than primal urges. It is within the outskirts of Brascroen this fountain of knowledge and study lies away from the undesirable den of sin and its less desirable patrons. The Ehrentraud Institute has also been known to act as a waypoint between the Hygelac research facilities and the rest of mundus often acting as a staging ground for new arrivals to prepare themselves before journeying to the frozen continent as well as hosting returning researchers and staff for recovery before they depart to their own home countries. In this regard the Ehrentruad Institute is as much a Sudmark facility as it is an international one. It is rumored by the city folk that deep beneath the facility proper lies an undisclosed vault. Of which the exact location is known only to a few select individuals within the Sudmark government and other foreign entities. In this vault lies the darkest of secrets revealed from the frozen continent. Some say alien lifeforms that have been recovered beneath the frozen surface, others once previously extinct animals that have somehow managed to survive in the deepest reaches of Hygelac. Still some suggest the facility holds numerous samples of diseases long believed to be cured, others unknown to the common man. Whether any of these accusations are true is known only to the staff and the select few who deal with the facility, that is assuming the vault exists at all of course.

A setting of two worlds, one of pleasure and primal urges, the other of vigorous study and ever uncovering mysteries. This is the City of Brascroen, the gem of the south, the last bastion of civilization before the frigid sea of the Antalin, a gateway to the even more seemingly inhospitable yet mystifying polar continent.  It is here in this den of vice and pleasure, of knowledge and discovery that you find yourself. Perhaps your path takes you to the penthouse of a high influential gathering vying for more power and prestige among the upper echelons of high society. Or maybe you’ve ventured here to this hidden corner of the Welt, with nothing more than the clothes on your back, desperate to strike it big with one of the numerous criminal factions that infest the back alleys of the city. Maybe your presence is of a more official nature; seeking information only obtainable through the calculated and unseen eyes of an intelligence agent every wary to avoid detection from the Sudmark government, perhaps you have taken up Residence in the Ehrentraud Institute of Research and Study preparing for a voyage to the southern continent or uncovering the mysteries and secrets of those who dared to take the journey. Maybe you’re none of these. You may just be one of countless others who seek to take a relieve yourself from the weariness of life and partake in the rush of the gamble in the casinos and clubs. In the end your business is yours alone yet all of you through fate may be brought together with one goal in mind.

Escape.

OOC: Welcome! In this roleplay you will partake in the role of a character or characters from your own nation who resides in the southernmost Sudmark city of Brascroen. The city itself is a typical metropolitan city that is renowned for its gambling industry and its culture of tolerance for prospective patrons. Due to this it is far more cosmopolitan than the rest Sudmark. The city itself has no fixed layout so feel free to describe/add to it in whatever way suits your narrative needs. The only thing of note is that Sudmark is a Germanic inspired country and as such most residents will have names reflecting that, though its not required. Besides its gambling, the city hosts a research facility known as the Ehrentraud Institute of Research and Study (EIRS) which serves as an international auxiliary research station primarily to service and cooperate with the various research groups and missions into the polar continent of Hygelac.

Your character can be of whatever caliber you wish, it is preferable that they are not your country’s leader or any other character of immediate importance of a similar vein though that won’t be denied should you choose. Otherwise, all other characters are welcome including intelligence agents and military personal. The RP will take place just prior and during a political and domestic crisis within the country of Sudmark in which your character(s) will inevitable be trapped within the city due to circumstances that will be revealed latter. Your recommended goal is to escape the city, though whether you choose to do so or not is entirely up to you. Perhaps leaving is simply not an option for you and you would rather whether the crisis. Perhaps you will work with the local authority to resolve the crisis. Or perhaps you simply seek to profit from the chaos. The choice is yours.

The RP will have a lightly linier story to it, in the form of events outside the city and occurring through Sudmark as a whole and that the central focus will be the city of Brascroen itself and the events that occur there; while your character is free to engage in whatever path/decision they choose in the city itself. In time the RP may open up to the rest of the country. This will be my first OP driven RP so I apologize in advance if it turns out chaotic/bad/not to your liking.

There is no need for a Character sign up, you can just jump right in.

Gypsies of the Alucard

Children of the Blue
Gypsies of the Alcuard, Nomads of the Sea, Children of the Blue, these titles and many more are the names used to describe the exotic and often unnoticed people who inhabit the waters of the Alucard Ocean and its various islands. Known internationally simply as “Water Nomads” the group has become more widely known in recent years during their official “Declaration of Sovereignty” in early 2019. Though the Water nomads refer to themselves as simply “Sea Nomads”, ethnographers have come to classify the various tribal groups that compose the Nomads under the ethnic-cultural title of Humsoo.

The Humsoo live an unorthodox lifestyle in relation to the rest of the Welt, even by Nomadic standards. Opposed to residing on land the Humsoo spend the majority of their lives on handcrafted ships traveling by boat across the Alucard, occasionally making landfall on national coasts or in self built stilt dwellings. It is in these locations the Humsoo will temporarily rest exchanging greetings with fellow tribes, trading for essentials, and pawning off their own goods. Perhaps the most perplexing of the Humsoo is their economic culture. Opposed to any fixed currency as adopted by the majority of the Welt and its countries, even amongst land-dwelling nomadic peoples, the Humsoo exchange commerce entirely through bartering. In this way they are considered economically independent from any country or their currency. As one might expect the Humsoo make most of their living through aquaculture and artesian crafts. One method of their fishing practices, called “cyanide fishing” by those who study the Humsoo, involves divers spraying liquid cyanide near coral reefs as a means to drive out fish from hiding. This then causes fish to expose themselves to the divers who collect the fish and then sell them off. Though it is unclear whether all tribes or certain tribes use this particular method, it has earned the ire of many Countries who hold territories near and in the Alcuarad region.

“Our faith teaches us that water is the source of all life and that the earth that reaches forth from its life giving waves is evil. For as long as anyone recalls we have therefore living on our boats travelling the relative safety of the Alucard…”

~ High Chief, Vouto Rar – Opening statement in the Declaration of Sovereignty

The Humsoo are a vast collection of peoples divided among numerous tribes. Though they may each differ in tribal costumes, one thing that ties the various groups together is their faith. Though itself subject to deviations among the tribes all tribes follow a generalised theology. With information collected from those who study the Water Nomads, and the scarce few accounts by Humsoo laymen themselves, a basic understanding of the religious practice has formed. The Humsoo believe the origin of the Welt is that of an endless ocean presided over by the deity known as Laimpei. Laimpei is a life deity accredited for the creation of the various form of aquatic-life and lesser spirits that serve them. It is also assumed by theologists, that Laimpei is the “giver of life” as the Humsoo attribute water with life and thus consider it a holy entity. In contrast a deity called Gothass is accredited with evil and, in Humsoo theology, said to have forced rock above the oceans in a means to drown out the waters of life with land, with an intent to ultimately destroy all the oceans and replace it with land. In this regard the Humsoo will avoid setting foot on land above sea level associating it with Gothass, evil, and as tainted territory. However as this land ultimately originates from below the oceans, the Humsoo believe that when raised it brought the gifts of the ocean with it and thus, though hesitant, will not shy away from collecting resources from lands. Prior to stepping foot on land, the Humsoo will engage in ornate rituals calling upon Laimpei to protect them from Gotthas and the evil spirits that dwell on land. The Humsoo will also avoid sleeping on land as it is believed that the evil spirits will take their resting bodies to Gothass.

The Humsoo believe their deity, Laimpei, dwells deep in the ocean’s depths within a submerged cavern. Considered a sacred place the Humsoo will take meticulous preparation to be reunited with their deity. Upon a tribe members passing the rest of the group will gather personal possessions and along with rocks wrap the fallen in a ceremonial garment. The deceased will then be blessed and set to the oceans where they will be submerged into the depths of the ocean. In this way the Humsoo believe that the deceased will eventually be reunited with Laimpei in their sacred cavern.

A state for the Stateless
“Since the earliest records began the people of the Alucard Sea have lead an existence unique to Mundus… For as long as anyone recalls we have therefore living on our boats travelling the relative safety of the Alucard Islands, we then have had land dwellers from Paracambi, Bakkermaya and Lodja spread into this region establishing their fixed lives…and now we find ourselves denied access to our ancient fisheries…This prejudice we face has lead to our nine tribes joining together and establishing the Confederation of Water Nomads…We therefore claim nine of the Alucard Islands as our sovereign territory and call for the international community to recognize our rights as a sovereign nation.”

~ High Chief, Vouto Rar – Opening statement in the Declaration of Sovereignty

On the 17th of April in 2019, under the leadership of Vouto Rar the first elected High Chief, four Humsoo tribes would make landfall on various uninhabited islands that dot the Alucard region, planting an unidentified banner and proclaiming the islands sovereign territory of the newly formed Confederation of Water Nomads. A new country was born. Though the most recent and the only known official effort by the Humsoo to reach any international attention, this proclamation was not the first attempt at creating a unified identity. In 2015 a Humsoo tribesman by the Name of Nihi Toungzai would meet with three other influential tribes in a first meeting to unite the Humsoo under one sovereign banner. It is not known what became of Nihi, but this conclave is largely believed to be the progenitor for the Declaration of 2019.

In his address, Vouto Rar, would briefly outline the framework for the country’s new political process:

”I have been elected as High Chief of the Confederation for the next 4 years and each tribe shall appoint someone to sit on our council. We therefore claim nine of the Alucard Islands as our sovereign territory…”

The nine islands the High Chief refers to are a small archipelago located in the northern Alucard region. They are bordered by the Bakkerymayan controlled islands of Wellow to the east; Walesby to the south; and the Paracambian controlled islands of Alemba to the west; and Gustavia to the north. Since their initial declaration the Water Nomads have established themselves around various islands in the Alcuard. The Confederation has proclaimed the island of Joothad as their new political capital.

The initial declaration has received a mixture of responses with some welcoming the new Country and its people, often on the basis of sympathies, while others have rejected the declaration refusing to recognize the declaration or any attempted Water Nomad State. In particular the Republic of Lakhzovia and the Kingdom of Clysperis have both officially recognized the new Confederation:

“The nation of Lakhzovia, too has experienced the pain of dispossession and persecution in our native territory… The Lakhzov Republic therefore wishes to extend recognition to your confederation of tribes…”

~ Sachim Kadassa, President of the Lakhzov Republic

” The Kingdom of Clysperis hereby recognizes the Confederation of Water Nomads as a sovereign state, free to stand tall and proud as equals”

~ Akasha Di-‘nh-mi-Re, Pharoah of Clysperis

While others have shown support they have not outright made any official recognition of the Confederation’s declaration. Of particular note is the Maori Commonwealth (of the Iwi), of which the The Maori Youth Council, has openly sympathized with the Humsoo establishing a “Support Group, intended to help this group ensure their human rights are protected.” According to the Support Group, they seek to provide a voice for young Humsoo aged between 16-21 to engage in political acitivites that would give the Humsoo a voice on the international stage. A statement from one of the groups spokespersons further explained their decision:

"The history of the Maori is not to dissimilar to that of the Water Nomads…We must ensure that they are allowed to develop their lifestyle to a manner suitable for them."

Rejection and Tension
Though the Husoom, and Confederation, have made no intent or open statements of aggression or hostility against other Alucard Countries they have been met with strict rejection in their declaration by many of their neighbors. Most Notably the Empire of Paracambi and the Dukedoms of Bakkerymaya. Understandably, perhaps, the largest point of contention between the two countries and the Declaration is the clear breach of the Fair Seas Concordant. An international treaty outlying an intent to reach an equitable approach to the territorial waters and resources of state sovereignty and law on the open ocean has been cited by many critics against the Declaration as to their refusal to recognize the Confederation. In particular, the following point as outlined by the Fair Seas Concordant text:

* Coastal States have sovereign rights in a 200-nautical mile exclusive economic zone (EEZ) with respect to natural resources and certain economic activities, and exercise jurisdiction over marine science research and environmental protection;

~ Fair Seas Concordant, ‘Preface – Summary of the Fair Seas Concordant’

In their Declaration the Confederation of Water Nomads would encroach and breach the EEZ of both Bakkermaya and Paracambi.

The Empire of Paracambi does not recognise the existance of this so called Confederation…We…retain full rights to our territorial waters and EEZ as laid out under the Fair Seas Concord as well as long standing understanding between Paracambi and Bakkermaya.

~ Benson II, Emperor of Paracambi

The nation of Bakkermaya once more reaffirm our claims on the territory we currently occupy as well as those waters granted to us by the FSC. …no individual or group of individuals may take up residency on an island and simply declare it to be a new nation which disrupts the EEZ of several other nations.

~ Hugo Lascelles, Grand Duke of Bakkermaya

However, it is not just international legalities that have earned the Declaration the Ire of many states. The Humsoo, known more widley by the common name, Water Nomads, in the Alucard have often been seen as something a bothersome to the various Alucard nations. Though it is unsure how the Confederation views or will respond with tensions between its fellow Tribes, and its neighboring regions, actions taken by certain tribesmen have been more than enough cause for tensions with the Alucard countries. In may of 2019  the Paracambian navy arrested a group of group on grounds of “criminal damage, theft and illegal fishing”, when the group was conducting fishing within Paracmbian EEZ waters. In June of the same year another group, having breached EEZ waters of Bakkerymaya, was detained by the Bakkermayan Navy following the discovery of a cache of high grade weapons. Later that Year, in December, another group was found to have established a settlement near the Lodijan Island of Tyr. Though no action had been taken against the Group, the incident provoked a new defense policy to be enacted by the Lodjain government.

The most notorious of incident associate with the Humsoo is the Kidnapping of Mila Pasternak, the younger sister of Vadik Pasternak, the Vice President of Kaitaine. A group of twenty Humsoo collaborated with the Bene Gesserit, a paramilitary organization labeled as a terrorist group within Kaitaine, to kidnap Ms. Pasternak and accompanying friends who were holidaying in the Alucard. With the Assistance of the Bakkermyan Navy the Kaitine forces were able to free the young lady and two other Kaitine nationals, though it was reported that four others were taken hostage by the Bene Gesserit, with assistance of the Water Nomads.

These Recent Events have done little to support the image of the Confederation, and possibly increase tensions between the Humsoo and Alucard countries. The Confederation has yet to make an official statement on these incidents.

Compromise
Despite the uneasy relations between the Humsoo and their Alucard Neighbours, the various Alucard countries have seemingly made ways to compromise with the Humsoo enacting policies and making laws that would grant tribals citizenship to their respective country’s in accordance with certain agreements. A new policy in Bakkerymaya would require Humsoo to acquire citizenship in Bakkerymaya or apply as a ‘visitor’ in order to access any of the islands that would be covered by the Declaration. This policy would also require “a photographic and fingerprint record” to be taken from applying Humsoo. In Lodja a policy would open up citizenship for Humsoo “who can prove they have resided in Lodja's exclusive economic zone for 12 months continuously”. As of yet there has been no known policy to be established by the Empire of Paracambi.

The regional organization; the Treaty of Unity for Alucard Nations (TUNA), have also made the Water Nomad question apart of their founding document. In particular article twelve in the TUNA Charter which states the following:
12. TUNA recognise the Water Nomads as one of many indigenous groups that have managed to maintain their way of life. As a result this organisation shall commit to, wherever possible, supporting their way of life…a) Any Water Nomad wishing to leave their traditional way of life behind will be supported to do so by members of this organisation. ~ Treaty for Unity of Alucard Nations, Charter article 12

Whether these new policies will provide a more stable Alucard or reinforce tensions between the Humsoo and their neighbors remains to be seen

New Education policy causes protests

Protests erupted throughout the country today in response to a new education financial policy passed within the state congress. The new policy primarily concerned with outlying a new financial plan for the country wide education policy, has been the Couse of newly arisen criticism by many of Tuetonic-Ibueri, due to the planned implementation of dropping Teutonic language courses as a core subject. This particular action in the poliucy has been the cause of the mass protests primarily in the southern regions of the country. The protestors have voiced their objections claiming the policy to be a further promotion of what they deem a “cultural genocide”, in a prolonged “ethnic agenda” targeting them in favor of the Oscani populace.

One protestor, Claudia Höffner a mother of two, was present at a protest. When asked about her reasons Mrs. Höffner explained “This is more than just about simple grievances about language, this is a concentrated effort to erase us [Teutons] from Ibueri as a whole. First it was the church taxation acts, then the removal of the flag of Teutonia from the capitol building. Now they target our very language. If we don’t act now, then when will it stop? We are just as much Ibuerian as any Oscani!”

The Taxation acts Mrs. Höffner mentioned is reference to another congressional bill passed in 2007 requiring religious institutions of all kinds to pay a property tax to the central government. Yet another bill was passed in 2011 requiring religious institutions to pay a further income tax on their earnings. It is estimated that the majority of Teutons in Ibueri are active practitioners of faith, whether it be Abrahamic varieties or pre-adrian, Teutonic folk faith.

The passing of the new education policy is not without reason however. According to Congressional spokespersons, the resoning for the removal of Tuetonic language courses is attributed to the status of its practitioners as a whole; the continuing decline of the Tutonic population, largely due to emigration west into Daito-administrated Andred, and other regions abroad, in addition to the decrease of native Tuetonic speakers though out the country due to interregional demographic changes, has caused the Tuetonic language to fall below the required threshold to maintain its status as a regional language.

Congresswomen Luisa Alonzia made the following comments regarding the situation. “In an ideal situation we could cater to all language groups and cultures within the country. Unfortunately, we do not have an ideal situation. Funding for the commission of Education, previously used to cater to Teutonic language courses and Teutonic centered programs, could be used for more pressing courses and programs catering to all students.”

It is unclear how long the demonstrations against the new policy will take place, however they have for the most part remained peaceful.

Spoiler: show
“Papa! My feet hurt! Can we please rest?” Sweet, sweet, Gerda. The voice of young girl seemingly echoed through-out the Oropovo as she made her request well known, though practically blurting it out. Still even in her irritated state she had the grace to keep to her manners, her please drawn out and exaggerated. It was enough to cause Alden to allow himself a small smile, and even though he would never openly admit it, was ultimately what won him over. It was funny in a way normally he’d take his daughter of eight years on long extended hikes in the surrounding areas of their village. She seemed to enjoy herself so much then. Back when things were more…stable. Alden looked to his daughter who was now lagging behind whether intentionally or due to genuine fatigue he could no longer. With a small sigh he waited for her to catch up and gently placed his arm around her shoulders, running a finger across her cheek guiding a small bundle of loose hair back behind her ear. Even now despite her obvious frustration with the whole situation, she still managed to conjure a small smile as she clasped on to her father’s hand.

“Oh come now, little lily. You used to love going on adventures! Where’s that adventures spirt eh?”

“But Papa, this adventure is taking toooo long! Besides there’s nothing to see up here but boring rocks and shrubs…”

“Ha, ha, ha! Okay, tell you what. Why don’t we take a seat right over there on that boulder and you can sing me that song Mrs. Oddette taught you while check on ol’ Ida?” Ida had been the third member of their little trio. A fine Nueva Ardian Criollo cow with a spattered pattern of light tan and white. As Alden understood it, they were brought over from Ardia in the early days of colonial period and quickly became favored over the Tytorian Southmark mainly due to the docility. Not that any of that matter much anymore. Ida had been the last remains of Alden’s financial legacy one built on the hard work of tilling the Oropovo’s soil and caring for the cattle of the village. Now all that was left of his herd was this singular stubborn cow. His Ida, his legacy, and Fulla willing, what would provide him and his daughter with a future.

“But I don’t know all the words yet! You can’t sing if I don’t know all the words, Papa.”

“You can’t, huh? Well, I don’t believe that! Here, why don’t you hum it out first then the words will come along. Plus, you have such a lovely voice Gerda. A’int that right Ida?” A simply Moo sounded from the cow. Probably answering more to the sound of its name than the proposed question, still it was enough to earn a giggle out of Gerda and that was more than enough for Alden

“Papa!”

My sweet, sweet Gerda. As the girl began humming, Alden took the time to look over the cow. So far she looked healthy enough and none of the signs were obvious on it, hell out of the three of them Ida was probably the least bothered by the trek probably just as excited as ever to finally see whatever lies beyond the fence. In a way Alden envied the creature. No worries about the future, no past to haunt it, not nights filled with anxiety about how to provide for its child. Just blissfully unaware and content. Ignorant that numerous of its fellow bovines across the country were dropping like flies, and no one seemed to know why or what to do. Including Alden.

It was why the three of them had left their little village, their home. Their paradise on earth that was one of many of the Orpovo’s valleys, as humble as it may have been. Now they had to make a last-ditch effort to trek from their village through the Oropovo, to the east. Possibly even leave the entire Ilirne plateau if necessary. All Aldren had to do was find someone, anyone, who would buy Ida off the him then he could find some respite in knowing he had a way to feed Gerda for a while until he found another job. That was all that mattered.

* * *

The had been walking for days now possibly even a week or two. No one, not a single person, was interested in Alden’s cow. Money was slowly running out, they were eating less and less each day, and more than anything they were tired. Even Ida was slowing in her pace now, while Gerda once a Jovial girl had now grown silent for the most part. Alden took no pleasure in accepting the charity of others. How could he, it was his duty to provide for his child. His sole purpose in this world, and now he could no longer even mange that. Yet, he no longer was in control of such things. Alden now had to swallow his pride and hide his shame whenever Gerda sought his comfort.  They had managed to find themselves in some other mountain side village nothing too fancy, but it had a small pub which doubled as something of a common house and at this point Alden didn’t care to budget anymore. Money was going to run out eventually, and at this rate far before they left this damn plateau.

At this realization Alden forcefully slammed his mug on the table out of frustration, causing his daughter to jump at the sudden outburst.

“Pa..”

“…sorry, Lily. Papa’s just…thinking is all.” Alden simply sighed. It was clear the girl wouldn’t be satisfied with this vague and avoidant response. She was worried. What was worse, she was worried about him. Damn it all, this isn’t how its supposed to be!

As dusk had settled Alden had managed to make arrangements with the patron of the common house, Lucretia, who was charming women and understanding enough. From what Alden had gathered from her he was not the only one with this predicament, the village had seen a fair share of financial refugees pass out east. Apparent afflicted with the same fate Alden had. It was because of this Lucretia was willing enough to allow them to stay in her edifice. Much to Alden’s further shame. Though at least Gerda seemed to take a liking to Lucretia, who in turn reciprocated the feeling.

“Hey Lily, why don’t you go see if Mrs. Lucretia needs any more help in the kitchen, ja? I’m just going to take a… walk.”

“But what about Ida?” The girl whined appalled that their fellow traveler would be left alone.

“Yes, yes, I’ll take Ida with me. Gonna need someone to keep me eh” Alden replied, to the satisfaction of his daughter who promptly skipped her way to Lucretia humming along the way. Even now, when she clearly was tiring, she managed to muster the energy to appear jovial even if Alden new it to be a façade. At least he knew she would be safe, for now.

* * *

The suns orange glow sprawled across the skey clashed with the darkening blue of the coming night creating a varying mesh of pinks and purples. Had things been normal Alden would’ve taken these twilight walks to relax before bed. Now all he could do was try and combat his racing mind filled with thoughts of frustration, desperation, and anxiety. The occasionally ‘moo’ and steady beating of Ida’s hooves on the path just barley keeping him from outright breaking down. Eventually Alden allowed himself to collapse upon the side of a while. It was only from the sporadic shuffling of Ida’s hooves that Alden then noticed the figure before him. A Teuton like himself and flashing Alden an unnatural smile.

“My, my, Kumpel, that’s a fine one there!” The man began, gesturing towards Ida.

“Not seen many as healthy as that one. Well not really seen any, to be honest. Er-alive, anyway.” As he continued he slowly moving closer to Alden and his cow.

“I suppose not. Don’t suppose you’re from around here?”

"Suppose you could say that. I’m a bit of a… collector see. And you, Kumpel, have a mighty fine prize there…” Before Alden could even react, the stranger already had a gun at head. The cold uncaring metal of the muzzle pressing into his temple, ever threatening to make his world go dark.

So, it was, the case of Alden Behrend would be one of many. A mere statistic of a larger issue. The dreaded Yellowtounge Illness.

OOC Notes:
1.Kumpel: German for friend, but more along the lines of 'buddy' and less cordial.

Diplomacy and Events / Tensions in Yrket
« on: October 29, 2020, 10:48:58 PM »
Dzhunho, Captial city of Kopsje
Parliament Building

“This is a clear provocation against the authority of our laws and the Sovereignty of our country! This Alexis Minette, this High Priestess, is effectively acting as an Achkaerinese agent. Her actions are those sanctioned by the Kangzi Emperor and his government weather they openly admit to it or not! We cannot allow such a slight against our country go unpunished! We must ensure this so called Covent t-“ the voice of a young man resonated throughout the parliamentary chamber. His words reaching the ears of all members present some nodding in agreement others silently listening, while some mad notes. The young man, a Junior member as one could tell easily with his overcompensated oration making his words seem almost scripted, was soon cut off by a female’s voice. One with far more authority and a natural composure to it.

“Ridiculous! The only provocation happening is that of this law against the people of Kopsje! The NKIM have continued to push this law, passed only by the cowardice of abstention, and now are taken aback at the realization that their supposed plan to transcend Kopsjse, our beloved country to their perverted concept of a modern state,  has backfired and drawn the ire of not just our own people but that of the Kangzi world.” Following her abrupt interruption the women shot up so as to have her words heard across the chamber. Once finished she proudly smiled as her attempt to shoot down the Juniors words were met with thunderous applause. Though mainly from those around her, clearly her fellow party members.

“It is one thing to stop the flow of goods into our lands, it is entirely another to import religious figures with intent to subvert our actions as a political authority. With the Kangzi priestess’s words she has effectively invited more of her ilk to act as squatters in Yrket! Need I remind the parliament that these are not just simple fanatics but an organization who brandish swords and spend their lives learning martial skills. Are we to allow what could easily be armed Zealots to make a stronghold of one of our cities? One that lies only a few kilometers away from the Capitol?” The young man replied, this time facing his vocal attacker directly. His words had clearly garnered the attention of many as hushed murmurs echoed through out the chamber.

Many within the parliament were beyond aware that the current situation and passage of the law was likely to be seen negatively by the Kangzi world. By all means the law had passed in an entirely fair and legal manner, regardless of what the opposition would say. Thus condemnations and sanctions were all well and fine, expected even, but this? This was something most wouldn’t have expected. Yet it had and now the question simply was how to deal with it. These thoughts and others ran through the mind of Suymenkul as he simply sat and listened to the two parties bicker back and forth, with their designated mouthpieces. Suymenkul was neither affiliated with the NKIM whom were situated to his right nor the GIL situated to his left. Instead he was a member of a third party, one that by all means had faded into obscurity by this point. The Politics of the Parliament had grown to be dominated by the two giants situated on either side, while Suymenkul and others of smaller parties dominated the center. It was quite interesting for him. If the parliament truly did reflect the views of the general populace, then from the looks of it half of Kopsje yearned for a welfare-state, while the other half sought a near total abolishment of government.

“IF I… may have the floor? It is clear we cannot allow this slight against us, against Kopsje, to go unnoticed. Equally so we cannot afford any overly swift action that would rally further Kangzi action against Kopsje nor lead to similar situation that persists in Fifth District. Thus I suggest that what this Parliament should…”

“What the parliament should do? I’ll tell you what the parliament should do! We should revoke the damn law and ban the idiocy of the NKIM from the chamber!!” A thunderous roar of a male’s voice came from Suymenkul’s left. It grew louder with each sentence and when he finished his intrusion a loud echo of applause and cheering from the left section of the chamber vocalized the similar thoughts of GIl members. As excepted NKIM members began booing and yelling back at their verbal attackers claiming the GIL to be anti-Kopsje and other political insults.

This was getting out of hand. Suymenkul tried to raise his own voice attempting too call for a motion, but was quickly drowned out by the verbal battle that was engulfing the chamber.

Dzhunho
Fifth District
“Hurry Ainura! We must Hurry…leave it we will get another one later!” A hushed and frantic voice filled the tense air of the tenement bloc as a family quickly gathered their belongings negotiating among themselves with what they needed as opposed to wanted. A mother was haphazardly stuffing clothes, medicines, hygiene products, anything she deemed necessary into a suitcase, chiding her young daughter upon seeing the girl trying to fit a stuffed musk doll into a backpack. She was annoyed at the sight but understood, her daughter’s insistence. The Doll had been a gift from her grandmother. She’d passed away not to long ago. The soft grunts of the girl’s attempt to pack the sentimental item echoed through out their tenement flat. The mother sighed as her commands fell upon small distracted ears, she checked a nearby clock its dull green digitalized numbers reading 7:46. The Mother grew more anxious at this sight. They’d only have about 14 minutes to leave the district before the KSG started reinforcing the curfew. There was no more time to waste, in a panicked state the mother clasped her young daughters hand lightly dragging her away, knowing she would only resist if they left the doll the mother grabbed it in her other hand. They made their way outside of the building, other families and groups with similar goals also emptying their respective tenements.

Their destination was Yrket. The mother knew of it, had even visited the suburb-town due to her work, but she’d never thought to intentionally go there. It was the words of the Kangzi Priestess that had seemingly ignited a surge of exiles to the town. The Mother wasn’t sure what exactly the Priestess meant by calling the town a Covent, or what these two religious Orders were but from what little she heard from her co-workers she understood it as a place for Namists to seek refuge. Maybe… just maybe they’d take in her daughter, let her practice her faith in peace and save her from being severed with the Eternal. Maybe. As she pulled her now calmed down child down into the streets she looked again at her watch. 7:50. Ten Minutes, they had only ten minutes to make past the crowds of protestors and reach the entry point. A new wave of urgency and anxiety filled the mother as she reached down lifting her young daughter and carrying her hurriedly making her way to the entry point.

The streets were chaotic with large amassed protestors focusing their anger towards a wall of KSG agents. Shouts of “tyranny”, “oppression”, and other insults filled the air along with protest signs, religious symbols, and Icons. This had been going on for nearly a week now but with the curfew it had grown more escalated in the past few days. It was another reason the mother so desperately wanted to leave the fitfth district. As she hurried along keeping her daughter close to her shoulders instinctually trying to protect her from anything and everything at the moment, she couldn’t help but catch a glimpse of something oddly luminescent in her peripheral. A bottle? Something was off though, it had a piece of cloth stuffed inside the… The mother disregarded everything at this moment, switching from a swift paced jog to a full out run. Holding her daughter close she shoved her way through amassed people. At last she could see the line of KSG agents and small opening among their ranks. The Entry point, she gently placed her young daughter down and grasping her hand quickly guided her towards the point. A portable neon sign revealed the time as 7:56, instructions for the amassed crowed to go indoors following. The Mother nervously glanced around as they waited in line.  She noticed the KSG agents assembled slowly preparing themselves with all kinds of gear. What for, she did not want to think about.

At last it was their turn to be processed the Mother looked thankfully at the neon sign which read 7:58. A young women smartly dressed but lacking the more geared out appearance of the KSG agents, gave them a small smile waving them over. She promptly asked them to produce authorized papers to which the mother gladly reached in her pocket managing to produce, one?! That couldn’t be right she knew she had mad preparations for the both of them. The mother gave an apologetic smile as she began ruffling through her things desperately looking for the other documents. A sudden scream to behind her distracted her attention away. She only managed to catch a glimpse of an orange iridescent object before it crashed against the riot shields of the KSG line exploding into a fiery yellow-reddish mass.

“Lock it down, lock it all down!” She could hear the orders of the young women, her voice a mix of frustration and anxiety. As she commanded KSG Agents began crowding along the line demanding everyone return to their homes.

“No wait! Please, take my daughter she has a pass!” The mother pleaded, gently tugging on the younger women’s uniform.

“I..I can’t. Minors, can not leave with out supervision, you know th-” the young woman began droning on lines she had seemingly memorized. It was clear she wasn’t even paying attention to the pleading mother her worries and attention drawn to the increasingly tense scene of the streets.

“Please, Udak, she is all I have left! I just want her to be safe please...”

“Fine, fine! Just hurry it up!” With that the mother handed her daughter over to the young woman. Who gently yet frantically began pulling the girl away, the child’s wailing for her mother soon being drowned out by the loud yelling and clashing of the mob engaging with the KSG Agents.

Town of Yrket
Southern Kopsje
“No you can’t! You’ve no right, that is private property!” The protests of an elderly man rang out louder than necessary in an attempt to draw more attention. He owned a local café, one of the most well known in Yrket in fact, and under any normal circumstance the KSG would avoid creating such a scene.

“And this is a legally recognized public place. Now piss off before I detain you for interfering.” Came the reply of an annoyed KSG agent, scenes like this were playing across the small town of Yrket. All of Kopsje for that matter. Kyrzun, Rus, Kopsjenese or Kangzi, it didn’t matter the only places left uninterrupted were the churches and temples of the various faiths. Though many suspected it was only a matter of time.

The Town of Yrket was hardly a large destination spot. Its proximity to the so called “Gem of Kopsje” Dzunho, made the small suburban town little more than a footnote to most who heard of it. It was for all intents and purposes a sleepy, easy going, town. The Bustle and chaos of Dzunho absent, in its place the tranquility of the more natural surroundings. So it had been, so it was supposed to be. Yet as fate would have it the norm was to suddenly be disrupted by an influx of newcomers, both Kospjense and Knagzi. It was a situation that had created much confusion for the residents and a headache for the local KSG.

“Anything new to report?” The uninterested voice of a man inquired, followed by the sipping of a drink. His name was Pukak, and as far as anyone was concerned, he was technically in charge of Yrket as the leader of the local KSG. He stood with some of his fellows all having their attention turned focused on the group of Kangzi individuals they’d come to know as the Maiden Sisters, and now apparently this, Acolyte Order. Ever since the announcement by the High Priestess, their little sleepy town of Yrekt had managed to garner national attention.

“Other than the seeming exodus from Dzunho, nothing out of the ordinary. There are occasionally new Kangzi showing up at the Namist Temple, but otherwise…” one of the surveying agents responded. The whole situation had proved to be, strange, to say the least their town usually only dealing with occasional thievery and drunken brawls. Now they were practically staring down these Namists everyday as if both sides were just waiting for the other to make the first move.

“Why don’t we just detain them? They obviously aren’t here to pray, or whatever they do.” Another, younger voice asked. The sudden appearance of the Kangzi religious figures had put many on edge, no doubt due to their brandishing of various bladed weapons.

“Under what charges though? Legally, they haven’t done anything…yet anyway.”  The first agent replied their eyes not moving from the robbed figures of the Namists.

“Alright enough. I expect both of you to keep your personal views in check while on duty. If anything happens, we’ll be ready.” With that Pukak took another sip of his drink, another glance at the Namist temple and headed back inside the KSG building. He knew things were about to get interesting. Most likely for the worst.

Near the western entrance to Yrket, two KSG agents had stopped a woman, clearly Kangzi and dawning a similar robe like those at the Namist temple. One of them pointed to some kind of medallion or other necklace like object. From the looks of it, a symbol of the Namist faith.

“You got authorization to be carrying that around?... matter of fact, those require authorization too. You’re going to need to produce some documents missy, would be a shame if we’d have to confiscate these…” One of the agents asked, the other chiming in and pointing at sheathed blade. It was clear they stopped the women for their own purposes, whether it be an over-zealous sense of duty, now surfacing xenophobia, or simply out of boredom. Whatever the case may-be it was obvious two KSG agents wouldn’t let the women pass until they were satisfied.

Factbooks and Maps / Ibiau State
« on: October 24, 2020, 08:59:17 PM »

Captial: Jarkoni | Population: 16.3 Million | Government: Unitary Theocratic State | Language: Absini | GDP per-capita: 8'106

 Overview
Ibiau, officially the Ibiau State, is a country located in Eastern Cotf Arayne. It is bordered to the west by the Unified Tribes of Waddan, and to the south by the Manist Republic of Sludderland; while to the east lies the Republic of Centralia. Ibiau is a landlocked country with the great Irdja desert comprising nearly half of the country’s land territory causing much of the population to reside within the southern regions of the country; save for a few nomadic peoples who traverse the dessert. The eastern border of country is comprised of the Qihad mountain range forming a natural barrier between Ibiau and the east. It is from the Qijad mountains and its precipitation that the Sarqan and Kunmir rivers originate flowing south into Waddan and Sludderland; crossing much of the southern regions of Ibiau and subsequently contributing to the population centralization there.

It is a common folk saying that “Ibiau is as old as the sands of the Irdja”. Though this can be debated it is largely agreed upon by historians and archeologists that Ibiau, in particular the fertile southern regions, saw habitation by humans as early as 600 BCE. It has been speculated that the dominant group of Ibiaunese can trace their origins to migrating groups from Waddan and Kodima though to what capacity remains unknown. During the 9th  century CE it is believed the Ibiauense made contact with the “exotic foreigners” of the south today recognized as Jarl Thorstein and his fellow Nordics. It’s largely believed that relations between the Ibiaunese and new Jarldom remained erratic, with one recovered account, dated to be from the early 12th century CE, describing an armed clash with a group of “southern marauders” speculated to be in reference to Ragnar Vidarsson’s campaign of expansion; though the outcome of this battle remains unknown.  By the 15th century CE much of the southern regions would fall under the dominion of a city state today known as ‘Yarkeb’ and its ruler Seutiun IV. Through their conquest of the southern Regions the Seutiun dynasty would consolidate their lands forming the first State of Ibiau. In the 19th century CE an invasion by the Irdja nomads would be met with little resistance due to a political crisis culminated with the Kunmir drying. This would see the Irdja nomads rule the country into the early 20th century as the Irdja Emirate of Ibiau. In contrast to the traditional hereditary rulership of dynasties past the Irdja rulers would select the sovereign among themselves forming an elective monarchy. Though rule under the Irdja Emirs was relatively peaceful many within the southern regions were dissatisfied and opposed to their reign seeing the nomadic peoples as” exotic and alien in culture”. In 1923 an armed rebellion known as the Manra uprising would lead to the overthrow the Irdja rulers leading to the rise of the current Ibiau State.

Ibiau is a theocratic unitary state functioning within a, self-described, congressional framework. The country is divided among 5 administrative regions, while the capital district and city of Jarkoni forms the center of political and state authority.  The Azhirani faith holds significant influence in every aspect of Ibiauanese life and is the basis for much of the legislative process. The faith is also the sole legal faith within the country though it has been known that Irdja nomads keep to folk religions, while provisions are made for ‘foreign beliefs’ to be protected within the boundaries of foreign embassies and consulates. Ibiaunese society can be described as rigid and generally uniform with others across Midarayne. Gender roles are emphasized with political and financial society often dominated by men, while familial and social society is seen as the domain of women. In contrast religious society makes no notable segregation. Notable slavery is protected and legal institution within Ibiau often on the basis of debt bondage. The official language of Ibiau is Absini though regional languages persist such as Waddanite throughout the Irdja, and Sluddlandic Persian along the Sarqan.

A landlocked country Ibiau’s economy is heavily reliant on its neighbors with both Sludderland and Waddan being the country’s largest trading partners. Agriculture and natural gas function as Ibiau’s key industries with Natural Gas Exportation becoming a nationalized industry in 1973 and overseen by the Commision of Economic and Fiscal matters since. Ibiau has an estimated GDP per capita of 8,106, with an estimated national GDP of 130.6 billion.

Mundus Games 2020: Controversy in Athletic Spectacle

Tradition
The Mundus Games are an international spectacle of sportsmanship, symbolic in its show of international unity through athleticism and cooperation of different countries and cultures. It is widely understood that the first concept of the Mundus Games holds their origins in the history of Achkaerin. Originating as a festival by the ancient peoples of Achkaerin to honor of the tri-deities of the Achkaerinese faith Namis, Kisara, and Xiaoyu, the first athletic aspects of this festival are believed to have involved foot races, throwing competitions, and wrestling matches. During these festivals, a flame would be alight and kept burning throughout the entirety of the games. This tradition continues to this day with the “Mundus Flame” being housed on Luna Isle within Achkaerin when the games are not in session. Though the games may have their origins in Achkaerin, since their modern inception first beginning in 2013, the games have come to be inclusive of all countries on Mundus; paraded as an avenue of peaceful interaction between different peoples and cultures. Indeed, it may be wrong to say that any country can truly hold the Mundus Games as their own conception as new aspects and categories are seemingly added every few years, the contribution of different participating countries

Opening Ceremonies
This year’s Games have been heralded as one which brings a historical shift to the nature of the event. The Games of the year 2020 are historical in the sense that they are the first to be hosted by two countries at the same time in a jointly coordinated manner. The Countries of the Tamoran Empire and the Emirate of Royal Seleucid managed to achieve the necessary votes to be awarded the honor of hosting the games surpassing their contender, the Kingdom of Tytor. This will mark the first time the Midarayne region will host the prestigious event; something that is hoped to bring about potential interest in the region and alleviate the seemingly negative view held by the international community. In the opening ceremony of the 2020 Games the hosting countries captivated audiences with two separate ceremonies, one in each of the respective hosts chosen cities of Ipsus (Royal Seleucid) and Alaverdi (Tamora), in an entrancing performance illustrating the religious origins of the two country’s respective faiths.

Within the Arena of Ipsus, a performance carried out by the talented youth of Royal Seleucid regaled the story of the deity Anahita and how through her divinity she was able to purify the poisoned waters allowing for life to finally grow in the harsh desert giving birth to the Seleucid civilization. In an equally mesmerizing performance carried out by the Tamoran venue, told the story of the religious figure the Prophet Mani and the birth of the Tamoran state. from a fledgling polity to the mighty Empire it is today. Another ceremony the relaying of the Mundus Flame was also carried out in a creative and unique manner; one that allowed both nations to distinctly, yet equally, engage in the Flame ceremony. The Bonfire from which the Mundus Flame is traditionally ignited with, was held at a Jointly constructed Gigafactory symbolizing the unity of the two countries and in the words of King Hedyar of the Royal Seleucid Emirate “…to help do exactly what the games are intended to do, build a better Mundus.". From the Gigafactory two individuals, each clad in the national colors of their respective nations, lit a lantern meant to hold their respective piece of the Mundus flame. The two were then transported via harness by air to each of the countries chosen venue cities. In the Tamoran city of Alaverdi the lantern was passed on to Tamoran gold medalists:  Yalda Karimi & Mirhashem Tajik where to two brought the lantern to ignite one cauldron. In Ipsus, Burtrus Karimi of the Seleucid Equsitrian team, was handed the other lantern and in a spectacle of incredible synchronization lit another cauldron officially opening the 2020 Mundus Games, in two separate cities in two separate countries.

Following the ceremony King Hedyer Soter, current sovereign of the Royal Seleucid Emirate, and Lady Alya Safavid, Mother of the Nation of Tamora and First Wife of Emperor Abbas Safavid, gave inviting thankful and hopeful remakes at the opening the 2020 Games:

King Hedyar -
“…During the next 18 days of sport we shall see nations who do not always perhaps see eye to eye embrace each other as friends on the sports field. We shall see them console each other in disappointment and congratulate each other in success. It is my sincere hope that once these athletes leave here they will take with them the same spirit and same compassion into all they do. I wish every athlete the best for the next 18 days and I welcome every fan to our nation…”

Lady Alya Safavid -
“…I would like to begin by adding our thanks to the nations of Mundus for choosing us and our great Seleucid friends to host the most important sporting event. It marks not only a first because two nations host the Games but it is also the first time the games come to Midaranye, a region of most importance to Mundus. I would also want to welcome the athletes to the games, they are not only the best athletes Mundus has to offer but also ambassadors of their countries. Lastly, I would like to thank all those watching the games, we are overwhelmed by your interest and enthusiasm.”

Controversy and Backlash
Despite the hopeful outlooks of the two hosting countries and their representatives, the 2020 Mundus games have come to be mired in controversy and backlash, possibly brining into question the very validity of the event as an athletic gesture of unity and, according to some, merely a façade for political prestige. These criticisms come as the 2020 Games are the first in the known history of the international event in which participating countries have refused to allow their respective athletes to be housed in the Athletic village of Alaverdi Attica, Tamora. A statement made by the East Morlander Minister of culture, Katy Garret, explains the phenomenon which is a stance now adopted by other participating countries:

East Morland Minister of Culture, Katy Garret
"The games are the pinnacle of each athletes career. We have made it policy that we do not involve politics in sport…. We as a nation are responsible for making sure our athletes are safe while overseas and as such we have instructed Team East Moreland to base all athletes in Royal Seleucid accommodation and will provide executive jets to fly them into Tamora for the day of their competition, returning them to Ipsus immediately after."

Princess Esme of The Holy Empire of Achkaerin -
"The first thing to say is that we never politicize the Games themselves, we've never done that and we never will. The second thing to say is that every nation on Mundus has known for months that the Games going to Midaranye was a possibility it was without question the most public of bids we've ever seen in Mundus Games history… Therefore knowing that the Games could end up in Midaranye we at Team Achkaerin have had ample time to plan out what we would do in this situation… Team Achkaerin will compete in the Games this year… We will however opt to base our entire team out of Royal Seleucid during the games and transport the athletes competing in events based in Tamora across the border as necessary…”

While some countries have preserved their place to participate in the 2020 Mundus Games, other countries have taken a hard stance against this years games. In an unprecedented move, various countries have decided to fully refuse participation in the 2020 Mundus Games barring their respective athletes from participating in the event. Notably the Countries of the Kingdom of Tytor, First Empire of Rokkennjima and, Empire of Paracambi, have all taken the stance in what is now being called a Boycott. The first in the event’s history. Of note many of these countries are known to have a highly negative view of either one or both of the hosting countries leading some to suspect this boycott is politically motivated above anything else. Each country has issued their statements explaining their stances and actions:

Statement by Prime Minister Madeline Thatcher of Tytor -
”…In these troubled times, it is essential to remember what is most important in life.  Tytor chooses to boycott the Mundus Games, not because we were not chosen to host, but because those who will host have elected to violate that most fundamental of all God-given rights: the right of a human being to choose his or her own destiny…

Office of the Imperial Media Liaison, Rokkenjima  -
“….While the First Empire recognizes the significance of the Mundus Games we cannot, in good conscience, compete in two lands which stand in blatant opposition to the basic rights all Peoples are born with. The present year has presented many tests to the international community on the challenges presented by the Tamoran institution of slavery, and this decision to host the Mundus Games in the cradle of oppression serve to show just how broken the moral compass of Mundus has become…”

“Imperial Edict” The Island News, Paracambi -
The government have today confirmed that no Paracambian athlete will compete in this years Mundus Games. The Emperor explained the decision stating “…our nations heritage is proudly built upon our anti-slavery action and not a single Paracambian is untouched in their ancestry by the institution of slavery… We can never turn our back on this heritage." It was explained that the Emperor has the agreement of all national governing bodies that they will not be sending competitors to the games and even went further that he has their agreement that any Paracambian who competes under the Mundus Games banner will never compete for the National Team again.

All boycotting states hold a similar grievance in common this being the institution of Slavery within the Tamoran Empire, and its historical practice in the Royal Seleucid Emirate. A practice still legal and largely utilized within the Empire, slavery has long been a contentious subject for the Empire and the focus of many criticism against the Empire and the Safavid dynasty. Despite this the Empire defiantly defends this practice, which is argued by some to not only be beneficial to the Tamoran economy but a necessity. This show of steadfastness in the face of overwhelming opposition has, to some, become an inspiration across circles in Mundus and will most likely be a situation that shall not disappear anytime soon. Regardless, both the Empire of Tamora and the Royal Seleucid Emirate have made a public response towards these actions, seemingly calling for an alternative for athletes whos’ countries forbid them from participating under their national banner:

Ipsus Daily, Royal Seleucid-
”… By boycotting the games these nations are merely damaging their own athletes. I wish to extend an invite to those from boycotting nations who had qualified to still come and compete under the banner of the Mundus Games Committee…”

Foreign office of the Empire of Tamora-
” …We would like to note that the Mundus Games are a celebration of sports and helps to foster international understanding and friendship and consider the intention of several governments to boycott the games as going against the sprint of the games. … The boycott robs the athletes from the boycotting countries of the chance to compete against the very best athletes in Mundus. … It is for this reason that we second the proposal of His Majesty King Heydar for these athletes to compete under the banner of the Mundus Games Committee.

As of yet it appears no boycotting country has accepted this offer. The Empire of Paracambi in a show of solidity with their actions and perhaps defiance against the Hosting Countries has opted to Host their own games called the “EMPIRE GAMES” or “Aluhampton Games” after the country’s capitol city. It is not just countries that have voiced their concerns and stances on the current situation surrounding the 2020 Mundus Games. The Mundus Games Committee and Mundus Sporting Committee also made open statements addressing the situation:

Press office of the Mundus Sporting Committee -
” We do employ for the Mundus Games what has until now always been considered a robust and fair bidding process… We have strict criteria that hosting bids must meet, these are assessed by an analyst group and a risk assessment is produced and whether a bid is permitted to advance … We will as is our custom look into this process before the next games and make any adjustments we believe necessary…”

MGC President Isabel Sullivan, Global New Network -
” I said when the joint bid was initially mentioned that the MGC's role is not based on politics….”

Whether the current situation and controversy surrounding the 2020 Mundus Games will become a precedent for future Mundus Games, or differences can be settled and the spirit of Athletic unity beyond national borders will be preserved is something that will be determined in the next Mundus Games.

Current Standings
The Current Standings of the 2020 Mundus Games are one of great interest and excitement as previously lesser known countries within the Mundus Games begin to rack up an impressive number of gold medals. At the time of this article the top three competing nations, in order from first to third, are as follows:

1. The Queendom of Lodja with - 8 Gold medals, 9 Silver medals, 4 Bronze medals, with a current total of 21 Medals.
2. The Republic of Heyra with – 7 Gold medals, 8 Silver medals, 5 Bronze medals, with a current total of 20 Medals.
3. Authorised Griss Athletes with – 7 Gold medals, 7 Silver medals, 6 Bronze medals, with a current total of 20 Medals.

Perhaps surprising and exciting of all participants in the Performance of the Griss. The 2020 Mundus Games is the first time members of the Griss athletic community have participated in the event also marking the first time the isolated country of the Griss Confederacy has, indirectly, participated in such an global event to the scale of this size. The outstanding performance of the Griss athletes is bound to awe MGS enthusiasts and casual followers alike as the whole of Mundus eagerly awaits to see how far these mysterious and isolated peoples can maintain their strong performance. Of note the athletes from the Griss Confederacy are not permitted to participate in Games under their national banner, instead being relegated to the status of “Authorised Griss Athletes” as independent participants.

The Queendom of Lodja Currently leads above all other countries by 1 medal making the coming day’s events to be one full of anticipation as to whether the Lodjian Athletes can maintain their lead. The Republic of Heyra comes in second place tying with the Griss Athletes, just two medals is all that separates these two from coming on top surpassing one another and Lodja. Interestingly the Kingdom of East Moreland, seen to be a strong contender and regular participant in the Mundas Games has lagged behind this year managing to earn eleven medals of which only three are Gold. Tied for fourth are  are the Holy Empire of Achkaerin and newcomer, The Federation of Izhitsa, both with 18 medals. Achkaerin leading with six gold medals to Izhitsa’s four. Though with Izhitsa’s strong performance at their first Games, many wait in anticipation to see how this may change.

The Commonwealth of Kopsje was unable to qualify for this year’s Games. Though a disappointment to many who hoped 2020 might be the chance for the country to showcase its Athletic ability, many have continued to tune into TINS and RSTV as the spirit of the Games continues to be lively within the Commonwealth, a common sight being to support regional neighbor Achkaerin. However, the Griss athletes have caught the eye and support of many.

Kopsje
Unknown location
There were two things that first started running in Ainurja’s mind as her consciousness gradually returned to her. Cold and cuffed. As she finally regained control of her slumped head, she took her time to observe her surroundings. She was leaned against a wall her hands cuffed together, one of the first things she took note of, the area was not that large, hell it was cramped with barley enough room for movement if she were free. To her right piled neatly and compacted was an assortment of boxes and crates. Supplies, but for what? She squinted trying to make out any sort of label, a possible indication of where she was. Eventually she gave up, it being too dark to make out anything of detail. She observed her surroundings to the best of her abilities coming to the realization that this was some sort of shipping container. An ever-present though low hum resonated throughout area, which could only mean…Shit, was all she could think of now. Ainurja wasn’t even sure how she got into this situation. Her memoires still hazy but it was clear that someone somehow managed to overcome her, cuff her, and then toss her in the back of a truck going to a destination unknown. Ainuja contemplated this realization considering the worst possible outcomes which was death, and the best possible outcome. “Probably” death. Suddenly a soft but prickly object pushed itself against her left arm causing her to instantly pull her arm away snapping her attention to whatever it was that touched her.

Hair. A mop of it, unkempt too. Ainurja studied this new anomaly having somhow missed it before. She could just barely make out the silhouette of a small figure settled next to her sharing the same bondage at their wrists as Ainurja, though they were limp. A child, boy, probably between nine and twelve, and sleeping. Having been slightly disrupted the child mumbled something incomprehensible shifting his bobbing head one way before idly finding his way back to Ainurja’s arm, resting his small head for comfort. Ainurja didn’t resist this time letting the boy lean into her, blissfully oblivious to the situation, he deserved that at least. A new word now resonated in her mind: Trafficker. It was one she knew all too well making this situation take an uncomfortable yet familiar atmosphere. Looking down at the boy again she tried to study him, his features, any potential hint of his origins. Was he Kopsjenese or foreign? Despite her attempts, between the near total darkness and the boy’s hair hiding his face, she could come to no conclusions. One thing was for sure, he was heavily drugged allowing him to be less trouble for their “chauffeurs”. Ainurja let out sigh at the thought though she could not deny its tactfulness.

It was then that a harsh and near ear-piercing screech of tire on tarmac heralded the coming of a chaotic scene. The sudden stop jolted the two captives awake, Ainurja attempting to brace herself before crashing hard into the piled boxes, while the boy had a much softer landing with Ainurja acting as his cushion. Ainurja let out a frustrated snarl, whether at the boy, the crash with the boxes (which she just found out were in fact entirely metal) or a combination of the two was unclear but her frustration was easily recognizable. In a sudden move Ainurja lightly shoved the boy away, an audible thud followed by the rattling of chains sounding through out the new stopped Vehicle. Why had they stopped? Ainurja thought to herself. If they’d reached their destination, then the last thing to do was make such a fashionable maneuver. More probability of damaging the goods that way. So then why? Her thoughts were interpreted by the intrusiveness of a soft but frantic voice bombarding her with questions. The accent of the boy was odd, familiar yet foreign. Ainurja could clearly understand what he was saying but the way his words left his mouth, the combination of sounds flowing into one another it was melodic Almost as if he were softly singing to her rather than speaking. Focusing on the boy’s voice Ainurja had ignored whatever questions he’d been asking trying to pinpoint his origin yet couldn’t quite place it. The boy was growing visibly frustrated and tried to raise his voice but before he could continue a new sound pierced the otherwise quiet scene.

A sound everyone was familiar with but never imagined hearing in person, reminiscent of thunder yet distinctly manmade. Even though muffled and seemingly distant the two Instinctively dropped down as low as they could, stomachs flat to the floor. There was another pause and then that horrifying sound came again, followed by another and soon enough the thunder morphed into a full-on storm. Gunfire chaotic sporadic gunfire it rang all around them from the left, the right, even in front of them. An ambush, which meant they were somewhere in the north. The land where law and order had decayed away into warlordism.  “Snowbaggers!” Ainurja suddenly yelled out in a mixture of anger and realization, her voice resonating throughout the container allowing it to overcome the sporadic gunfire and occasional whizzing of stray bullets that made their way through the container. As she looked up to where one freshly made hole was, she noticed very little light made its way through the opening revealing the world outside to be shrouded in the ever-looming darkness of the night. Ainurja took a moment to think about her situation and how to get out of it.

The Truck was being ambushed probably on both sides and considering the firefight had yet to die down it meant this truck was apart of a small convoy. Her hands were currently cuffed together restricting her movement, fortunately the idiots haphazardly cuffed from the front granting her some leeway. They’d also been kind enough to leave her here alone, well with the exception of her fellow captive. Still their over reliance on the drugs allowed her time to think plan. The only problem was the doors of the cargo container could only be opened from the outside. Ainurja cautiously inched her way towards the side of the container pressing her ear against the wall. Though barely able to make anything out beyond the gunfire, If she focused enough she could just make out … there! Footsteps approaching from the side, they were rushed too. Okay maybe she could get through this. Now confident in her plan she swiftly turned to the boy who was, shaking? She let out an annoyed sigh. Unfortunately for her his presence here made things more complicated, the last thing she needed was some shaken scared little pup getting in the way of things. Observing him for a moment more, she grabbed his arm and haphazardly hoisted him up, meeting his eye level.

"Look, kid. You want to get out of this alive? Follow my lead, keep your ass down, and keep up. You stray behind too far or decide to run off, then you’re on your own. Got it?... Got it?!” Her tone was stern a demanding. The boy hesitated for a bit his head darting around with each new sound of gunfire. Realizing his fear was distracting him Ainuraja repeated herself raising her voice and shaking him to get him to focus. His head snapped to Ainurja and then he nervously nodded. It was all Ainurja needed, whether it was true or not she was going to find out. By now the footsteps had stopped and the sound of locking mechanism being released echoed throughout the container overcoming even the fighting. Ainurja took a deep breath and prepared herself. This was a stupid plan but all she had and she sure hoped it wouldn’t get her killed.  Time almost crawled to stop as the final lock was released and a surge of bright light flooded the once dark container. Ainurja squinted her eyes just barley able to make out the silhouette of a person and not hesitating even for a second lounged at the figure, yelling “Get their sidearm!” as she did so.

The figure was clearly taken by aback unprepared for such a wild display. Their hesitance cost them as Ainurja was already on top bearing all her weight down before they could even respond. Though her hands were bound, the negligence of cuffing them in her front allowed her just enough liberty to use them as a makeshift club. Brining her hands together positioning the round edges of the cuffs downward she viciously brought them down on the unsuspecting figure’s face , his low grunts reveling him to be a man. Ainurja didn’t let up for a single moment continuing to use her cuffs to bash in the man’s head, each impact of metal to face producing an excruciating painfilled scream from the poor bastard. The chaos around them drowned out his cries for help even as he began to scream for someone, anyone to help. Eventually those too died down and the only sound left was the gurgling of his own life leaving him. Red crimson now flooding around his head.

The gruesome business done Ainurja took a moment to pry the rifle from the dead man’s hands and then began to take in her surroundings. Everywhere she looked where figures engaged in vicious combat some wielding knives and other melee weapons trying to overpower their opponents and deliver the final blow. Others had taken cover behind an array of vehicles that dotted the area their firearms in a near constant barrage of fire as everyone tried their damnedest to land a fatal shot. All in all, it wasn’t the worst scenario and luckily for her no one seemed to notice the two escapees. Ainurja then looked back to the boy, fixating her gaze on the young figure. What she saw conjured a new source of fury inside her. Instead of following her clear and simply instructions the lad had opted to simply observe the whole scene and now, as was apparent by the mortified look on his face, was passing judgment on his fellow escapee.

“What the hell did I say about keeping up!? GET. HIS. GUN!” the command was practically barked at the kid with a seething tone that surprised even Ainurja.  Still it worked and he instantly he snapped out of his daze scurrying to the now deceased man and trying his hardest not to stare at the gruesome pulp that used to resemble a face, fumbled with the side holster before freeing the pistol and then hurried to follow Ainurja. Yeah, yeah, it was probably beyond stupid having a nervous kid carry a fully loaded weapon amidst a practical blood bath but the only thing Ainurja was concerned with was  getting out of here and kid with a pistol was bound to cause someone to hesitate, and that’s all Ainurja really needed. The two quickly made their way across the makeshift battlefield, itself an open road with various vehicles, including another large truck, acting as objects of potential cover for their captors. Lining the road on either side were collection of various smaller vehicles, some two passenger trucks, other snowmobiles, all outfitted for the purpose of ambushing bearing the telltale signs and aesthetics of Snowbaggers.

“Hurry up!” Ainurja called back to her young companion who was starting to lag. She could have just left him behind. Honestly, part of her wanted to as her purpose for him was already done and he was beginning to look like a potential liability than someone of use. Yet there was something inside of her that just couldn’t bring herself to abandon him. A gut feeling perhaps? It only grew stronger the more she considered it, ultimately leading her to leave it out of the question for better or worse. Finally, the boy was nearly at her spot and fortunately for them the chaos that engulfed the entire area seemingly masked their movements. Suddenly the boy stopped a look of horror sprawled across his face. What now!? Ainurja angrily thought to herself, before she could make an motions she could feel her body yanked back with a force that almost winded her as her body was slammed against the car she’d chosen for cover. A sharp throbbing erupted in her head as she realized it had hit the side of car causing her to fall to the ground.

“Oi! The cargo’s escaping!” came the thunderous grizzly voice of man now standing over her and kicking her weapon away. As he reached down towards her, Ainurja brought her foot to the side of the man’s leg with as much force as she could causing him to fall to the ground letting out a pained cry. It earned her only a moment of respite in which she pulled herself up. There was not time to find her gun as the man was already up himself and now charging at her. Ainurja was able to sidestep out of the way causing the man to fumble, but even now everything felt blurry and she wasn’t sure she could keep up in a proper fight. Of course, that didn’t matter as her attacker now made his way back towards her this time more cautiously yet still aggressive. He went in for a lousy punch with his right hand which Ainurja was easily able to block allowing her to bring her knee sharply up to the mans stomach. He was just barely able to get out of the way at the time. Causing Ainurja to stumble. As she tried to rebalance herself a hard blow crashed into her side causing her to retch and instinctually reach down. A big mistake and before she could react her attacker charged at her and with all his mass pinned her to the side of a car. There was but a second for Ainurja to comprehend all this before the man brought his hands to her throat and began to strangle her.

She tried to resist, using ever muscle in her body as leverage to push the beast of man off of her. Even using her fingers to try and claw at the mans face everything and anything to get him off but it was useless. She knew it and so did he a sick grin creeping across his face at the satisfaction of his victory. Ainurja could only look back with a seething rage as the air slowly escaped her the realization of this being the final moments of her life something she couldn’t accept. The grip tightened and she could feel herself slowly begin to lose consciousness, her futile attempts at resisting growing weaker and weaker. It was then she felt a warm liquid splash across her face, and the grip gradually loosen until being removed completely. A mixture of relief and confusion surged through out her body as she looked up to see what had caused her attacker to stop. A slow stream of red liquid poured down the man’s neck then there was a loud clap of gunfire and then another, her attacker now full of bloodied holes that rapidly expanded before unable to bear it anymore the man crumpled to the ground the flame of his life extinguished. Ainujra looked to the boy, both of his hands on the pistol shaking in a struggle to keep the weapon up. He just stood there his gaze not leaving the corpse of man he just killed. Ainurja couldn’t read his expression but she recognized that this must have been quite the moment for the lad.

Slowly she pulled herself up and walked towards the lad gently clasping her hands over his and retrieving the pistol from him. His gaze still fixated on the body, Ainurja placed another hand on his cheek and once again slowly and gently drew his eyes away from the body until they met hers. Time seemed to freeze and the two locked their eyes together planting the seeds of trust and mutual understanding. It was here in this moment Ainurja realized she couldn’t just discard the boy. For better or worse the two were now comrades united in their struggles and, through bloodshed, inseparable.  The boy slowly nodded in his own way acknowledging this new bond between the two.

Without a word more the two made their way towards the body. The man’s previous cries for help apparently drowned out by the fighting all around had thankfully allowed the two to be undetected by the others. The boy began searching the corpse while Ainurja kept a watch out, now thankful she had a weapon again unsure if she could endure another brawl.  After while the boy produced what they both were hoping for a set of keys with a small remote. Their method of escape. Pushing down on the lock door button, the two were able to make their way towards a small pick-up truck being sure to avoid any others and possible engagements. At last the two made it, the boy handing Ainurja the keys as he entered the passenger side door of the vehicle. Ainurja practically yanked the driver door opened and fumbled with the ignition. It was at this point that with the sound of an engine sputtering to life that others seemed to realize what was going on. By the time a couple of the thugs had managed to position themselves beginning to aim their rifles at the two escapes the engine of the old truck sputtered to life much to the relief of Ainurja. “Get down!” she ordered to the boy and without a single moment more hesitation she slammed her foot on the gas pedal. On of the Attackers realizing what was happening just barley manage to jump out the way, his fellow not so lucky the thud loud and audible. Ainurja didn’t bother to see what happened refusing to stop for anything. This was it. As she speed off the sound of the fighting grew steadily quitter until eventually they couldn’t hear it anymore. Eventually the fighting would die down and someone would come after them. Where the two were headed she didn’t know. She hadn’t really planned this far. All she did know was that they needed to put as much distance between themselves and the fighting as the could.

Pamak Detention Center
Second District, Dzunho
Days Past

The distant sounds of demonstrators shouting whatever chant they conjured could be heard in the distance. Their voices and subsequent response of KSG vehicle alarms and orders barked into megaphones seemingly reverberating through the streets of Dzunho and between the great edifices that nearly scraped the sky. The Second District, for the most part, had been sparred the utter turmoil of the Fifth district, yet as time had moved on that chaos had begun to spread out like a viral infection. The Second District seemingly, just recently, managed to attract the infection. Chugat wondered at how long it would take for the whole of Dzunho to mirror the situation of the Fifth District. He shuddered at the thought, such an idea was something he hoped to avoid. For now, at least, such a concept was not foreseeable in the immediate future. With this reassurance Chugat made his down the streets of the Second District.

Nearing his destination Chugat paused at a moment to observe a place many sought to avoid. A simple grey barren building, its height dwarfed by the surrounding buildings and thus being hidden away like an unwelcome blemish on the prized gem that was the Second District. It lacked any concept of identity that others in the city would hold. Not sign of deviation from the oppressive solid grey that made up its construction, even the reinforced fence that surrounded it did not deviate from this pattern of solid mundanity. Beyond this fence, was a seemingly alternative plane of reality the premises uncaring to events that surrounded; created with the sole concern of keeping those that inhabited in the edifice isolated from the rest of the city, ignorant of the world they were deprived of. Yet even Dzunho, it seemed, could not hide its marks of indignity from the world. The phenomenon of the young Kangzi had made certain of it, and seemingly invited the chaos which now flooded the Capitol city.

The process of entrance did not take long, such was the perks of someone of Chugat’s standing, and soon enough he was granted an audience with the individual of interest. He was led to a small rectangular windowless room, any concept of color seemingly unknown to this building or its inhabitants as the walls and floor shared the same dull grey as the outside. The only break of this repressive uniformity was the central set piece, comprised of a metal table and two chairs, one occupied one ready for Chugat. A fluorescent ceiling light was all that illuminated the room, leaving the corners to be filled with shadow while drawing all attention to the unfortunate soul confined to this Detention Center.

As Chugat made his way to greet the figure he couldn’t help but notice her wrists had the faintest of red rings, her hair had been cut short to the point of nearly having none at all save for the stark contrast of color that enveloped her head. It wasn’t until Cugat sat down and now face to face  was able to see the young woman’s face. What he saw caused him to wrinkle his nose in abject disgust. The barbaric carelessness of the so-called Wardens of this facility, to allow such neglect to befall the Knagzi or even worse be the cause of it, was something that conjured feelings Chugat could not rightly describe, but clearly were not pleasant. Such incompetence, neglect, perhaps it was only to be expected. Chugat studied the young woman for a moment, a feeling of pity for her and the situation she was in subtly given. With a simply wave of his hand, the Warden who had accompanied him left the two alone.

You are lucky, you know. Despite the current circumstances you find yourself in.” Chugat began in doing so producing a folder and a tablet on the table between them. Expectedly she said nothing, lost in her own thoughts perhaps? Or still showing a display of defiance?

“Many in the parliament are dissatisfied with the outcome of your ruling. Some would like to see you never leave this place, others have thrown around the idea of an…accident. We can be, finnicky about such things especially when they inspire wayward elements in our country. There are of course others. Those who disagree with the handling of your situation, some even admiring it.” As he said this, he tapped around on the tablet bringing appearing to open a saved video before placing it back down and then opening the folder.

“Ultimately, you are no criminal. Your actions, though rash and provocative, are only natural for someone as young as you. In this regard you reflect your so-called Pharaoh your Akasha…” he trailed off as he said this almost as if to reflect for a moment on all that had transpired, on all that had led the two to this situation. With a sigh he tapped on the tablet, starting the video and  lightly pushing it to young woman, ensuring that she could.

The video started off with a woman much like the one in front of Chugat, though notably the women in the video was Kopsjense. She was sitting in the corner of what appeared to be a holding cell hunched down so that her knees were to her chest. She appeared frantic almost hysterical her eyes darting everywhere unable to stay fixated for more than a moment. Her arms appeared to be all bruised up and down though weather from a blunt object or other means was unclear. It continued like this for some time, until the sound of a door unlocking and the heavy motion of the metal frame being propelled open caused the women to dart up and try to retreat further into her cell, only to back up into a wall. Two Wardens entered though cautiously, hesitating for a moment before one of them spoke the woman’s name.

“Nertok…” was all one of the wardens was able to get out. A high-pitched emotional scream blared from the women, Nertok, causing the tablet to ever vibrate so slightly. The two wardens recoiled at the sudden outburst but quickly regained themselves. The women just continued to scream trying desperately to retreat into the concrete wall behind her. As the Wardens approached closer and closer, thought hesitantly, the women’s shrill fear ridden cries turned to outbursts of vulgarities. Eventually the wardens made their move avoiding wild swipes by the women as they struggled to restrain her. One of them nearly had her constrained before she suddenly broke free a sporadic burst of energy giving her new resolve to resist taking wild swipes at one the wardens.  Rapidly of the other warden pulled out a taser pointing it at the women yelling for her to stop, yet she didn’t instead she only seemed to grow more furious at being threatened charging the warden with wide eyes and a loud otherworldly scream… the video ended there. Now the only sound being the faint buzzing of the ceiling light.

Chugat had seen the video many times, each viewing causing him even more and more unease. With a sigh, he retrieved the tablet, setting it aside while glancing at the young Clysperi that sat in front of him the video clearly had caught her attention though if she felt the same unease as himself, he couldn’t tell. Was it resolve that kept her from expressing herself clearly? If so, it was admirable. Perhaps, though, it was simply that she had no resolve left; no energy to express herself. He dared not think about what could possibly have happened to her in this soulless prison.

“This is the face of a true criminal. One who was sentenced to death for crimes far more heinous than your own. I show you this because I want you to see what could happen should you stay here. This woman, Nertok, was just as young as you just as defiant to authority.  That one of our people could ever fall to such depravity is both unsettling yet telling. The cause of her behavior was use of a narcotic; from Kodumaa I think. Even in this desolate edifice, the poison of the Kangzi world worms its way inside.” As he said this Chugat now brought the folder in front of her, she may not have been able to understand all the writing, but Chugat was confident she could understand the gist of the document.

“There are various individuals, such as myself, who seek to provoke a great change in our beloved country. To free this homeland of ours from the poison and rot of Kangzi influence. Their ideas, beliefs, hoisted upon us first by Rus, and now reinforced by the international world. Much like your own country my associates seek to retake the destiny of Kospje away from the international world and seek to forge our own destiny…” As he said this Chugat seemingly grew with enthusiasm at the prospect of his “free Kopsje” a small smile of satisfaction growing across his face. He let his words trail off again.

“Of course I suppose, you are not particularly interested in any of this. The reason I am here is simple, you are an unfortunate consequence of the things we seek to change, and so we now offer you a chance to make history, and more importantly for you to be free. This document will secure you release, it is the only thing really. As a member of parliament, I and others, are willing to sign this document to guarantee your release. All we ask is that you play a small part in our goal.” With this  Chugat waited, pen in hand, ultimately though it would be up to the young Clysperi to make the decision.

First Minister denounces foreign Intervention
First Minister Masood has decried New Derusmian lawmakers following a resolution by the government's legislature to support rogue general and warlord Nekhtou in his warpath across Clysperis. The motion announced by Derusmian President Ebston Feish calls for military aid  by the Derusmian Military to be sent to the Nekhtuo's forces which would bolster the Warlords numbers and strength.  First Minister Masood has criticized the motion as “jingoistic in nature”, citing the Administration of President Feish's seemingly military oriented policy. The First Minister has also voiced the need for concern of Derusmian support, calling it a possible faux-front to spread its own socialist ideals into Clysperis. Socialism was enforced upon Midarayne in Clysperis and Abuqiya during the Soviet domination of the two countries.

Terrorist Forces led by Nekhtuo currently control four major regions within Clysperis, with the most notable being along the northern border of Abuqiya, which incorporate the Clysperi cities of Torfu & Hesiken. In response First Minister Masood has called for the deployment of military forces to reinforce the border and contain the possible spread of violence into Abuqiya. Although no motions have been made to intervene in the conflict, the Government has labeled the so called “Clysperi Confederation” as a false state, recognizing Pharaoh Akasha Di-nh-mi-Re and her government as the sole legal political entity in Clysperis. Despite this opinions remain mixed within the fatherland with a survey's showing a majority of Qiyadi seeing the conflict as one which does not concern Abuqiya.

Refugee centers established in Khasut
Tzanjuk (governor) Sekhemre Djehuti and the people of the Khasut Federal Administrative Region praised the benevolence and mercy of Hakim Mujahid following a royal decree which would  establish the creation of Refugee Centers in Khasut and a temporary ease of access for refugees fleeing from Clysperis to enter into Abuqiya, specifically the FAR. Three refugee centers are planned to be established near the city of  Tjensyris and meant to take in an initial flow of refugees who have gathered near the northern border  hoping to escape the violence that plagues their homeland. The refugee centers are equipped to provide housing and basic medical care, while talks of implementing education opportunities are underway. Some among the State Congress have voiced disapproval of the action, citing a great deal of problems accepting refugees would cause. Most predominant being concerns of over burdening the national healthcare system. Others are opposed to incorporating foreign nationals into the Qiyadi education system, lastly there are major concerns of  rebel fighters utilizing the refugee situation for their own aims. First Minister Masood has been among critics calling the motion “Noble but naive, and certainly problematic”

King Heydar proclaimed “Eagle of Midarayne”
Hakim Mujahid and the State Congress have praised King Heydar Soter of the Seleucid Emirate proclaiming him an “Eagle of Midarayne” and defender of Midarayne. The motion was made following the King's announcement that foreign military vessels and aircraft would not be permitted to pass through Seleucid Airspace. The Hakim likened King Heydar's actions to an “Eagle standing against Vultures”, while the State Congress has proclaimed open support for the King's actions as an example for all of Midarayne to follow, in resisting foreign incursions in the region. Although the move comes unexpected as Pharaoh Akasha and King Hedyar have been seen to openly disagree with one another on various matters. It is a sure sign that Midaranye is indeed capable of cooperation something the Hakim has stated is “Paramount for the welfare of Midarayne”.

Progress on Refugee Centers Stalled
Two of the three planned refugee centers established in  the Khasut Federal Administrative Region have been completed with final necessities such as water and proper furnishings continuing to be installed. Together these Refugee Centers are predicted to accommodate around 1,500. Despite this progress on the final of the three planed Refugee centers has been drastically stalled causing alarm among some that the influx of refugees will overcrowd the two finished centers before the third can be completed, a goal that does not seem to be in the near future.

The Primary cause of this issue stems from a lack of funding, something that has now been openly stated to be “underestimated” by  officials of the State Commitee of Finance. The decree originating with the Hakim had passed the Supreme State Congress in a vote of 70-68 with six abstentions and was  outlined to be a joint effort by the Federal Government, Khasut Federal Administrative Region, and private entities. However when factors not taken into account surfaced, the Supreme State Congress announced its intention to draw support from the other Federal Administrated Regions.

Upon the announcement each Federal Administrative Region, was to address the motion in their respective governments. However contrasting to expectations the Kamyarmuj Federal Administrative Region has been the only of the three to approve of the motion. In a narrow vote the Jericho Federal Administrative Region has ultimately opposed the motion with Governor Plenipotentiary Yocheved Kafni (of Jericho FAR) addressing the results:

“While a grave situation, one the people of Jericho can  understand, the people have made their decision. Know however, that the Clysperi people have our  condolences as they endure in these trying times”. The Governor's remarks make it clear that Jericho will not be supporting the Refugee Project, while also referring to the situation of 2014 in which the Kaiju virus caused a similar refugee situation within Abuqiya.

The Krušezevac Federal Administrative Region, similarly, has rejected the motion in a landslide vote. However the message from Krušezevac is starkly more frank. Governor Plenipotentiary Veljko Grgurović made a statement following the results:

“The people have spoken in a clear message. One that comes with no surprise. What we have here is quite simply an issue that does not concern Abuqiya. Is it a sad state of affairs? Yes. However  it is also one that could have been avoided. Why must Krušezevac be burdened with a solution forged by the failure of foreign powers?  Why should Abuqiya have to pay for the incompetence of the Clysperi government? Would we in Abuqiya stand for the intervention of foreign powers in our affairs? Then why should it be any different with Clysperis? This issue is one for the people of Clysperis to address and, so far, it seems they have made their concern's quite clear.”

Though frankly spoken words by the Governor, his message seems to resonate across Abuqiya with many openly demonstrating against the expected entrance of refugees. Concerns range from the bloating of the national healthcare system, to the negative impact an influx of  non-citizens will have on the economy. Representative Munisa al-Zadeh has made the concerns of her Qadaa heard within the Supreme State Congress:

“Say'ufal is not a large town, indeed it could hardly be considered a town at all, perhaps the term village is more suitable. Despite this, Say 'ufal has its purpose, it like many villages, Qiyadi villages,  comprise a fundamental component of our beloved country.  The people of Say 'ufal live simple lives. They wake up, attend the day's chores, come home for prayer and meal, and then retire to the night's activities. They do this with confidence that their children will be provided with stable education. That they can readily seek medical attention when needed. That Food will always be on their table. They live in confidence and content because Abuqiya serves Abuqiya.

How must I tell these families that this will no longer be the case? That the comfortable, albeit, simple and most importantly stable life afforded to them by our Abuqiya will simply...vanish? That the government they have trusted their hopes and lives too has now abandoned them, to serve others. Foreigners. People who are not even Qiyadi nor will contribute to our country, will be granted all of the luxuries of a stable life at their expense?....”

Just one of similar statements it paints a clear picture: The Refugee issue is a divisive one in Abuqiya. With both Krušezevac Federal Administrative Region and Jericho Federal Administrative Region refusing to assist in development in the Refugee Centers it is clear that the final of the planned Centers will not be completed anytime soon. Despite this the Kamyarmuj Federal Administrative Region has voted nearly unanimously in support of the Refugee Centers. Kamyarmuj is comprised of Qiyadi-Tamorans and holds the largest Manist population within Abuqiya.

No statement has been made by the Hakim or Shura Council.

The Clysperis conflict continues to wage on with no clear end in sight. While progress has been made by forces loyal to the Pharaoh, the number of Refugees flocking to Abuqiya's northern border continues to grow.

Border is Further Armed
The Conflict in Clysperis continues with steady fighting, between forces loyal to Pharaoh Akasha and rebel groups collectively known as the Clysperi Confederation. With the Rebels holding firm ground in what is known as the Southern Regions of Clysperis, while the northern reaches of the country are firmly under the hold of Loyalist Clysperi forces. The conflict has largely been contained thus far, with Safrean, Vanora, and our own homeland continuing to bolster defenses along the Clysperi border. Despite this the Conflict has managed to garner the attention of outside forces. Something which the First Minister has stated as “becoming an increasingly troublesome and concerning development. A development which threatens the security of Abuqiya and Midarayne.”

The Socialist State of New Derusmia was the first of said foreign powers to openly announce their involvement in support of rebel forces. This was a move Decried by the government as a forign power seeking to re-implement socialist rule in Midaryane through proxy of a victorious Confederation.   However a new development in the conflict has seen a coalition of foreign powers involve themselves in Clysperis. The arrival of foreign military assets in Midaryane originates from an unexpected move by Pharaoh Akasha Di-‘nh-mi-Re. While a seemingly desperate plea to garner support the move has not been seen kindly in Abuqiya.  First Minister al-Nour has made a harsh statement criticising this development:

“Through out its history Midarayne has sought fervently to break free from the chains of foreign powers. We have done so with the aggression against Abydos, we have done so in the Great War, we have done so against the Soviet domination. Even in the modern age we have endured the hostile temperament of foreign powers against our region, be it the economic sanctions against Tamora, armed occupation in the Seleucid Emirate, or dictating domestic policy in Slava Lavosk.

Midarayne has endured, for it is the Midarayne Spirit to be free of the dictates of outside powers. We are a people who strive to forge our own destiny.  For this is the fundamental foundation of the Tajdid Idea, of the Qiyadi Idea. Yet, once again our beloved Midarayne is under-siege by the imperialist mandate of foreign powers seeking to make opportunity of the Clysperi Conflict.

The Pharaoh of Clysperis has been one to champion the sovereignty of liberation of Midaryane. To voice disapproval of foreign imperialism, to criticise the unwelcome intervention of foreign military assets. Indeed it had appeared as if Pharaoh Akasha equallly sought the liberation of Clysperis from the boot of foreign dictates. It is with this knowledge that now, with great regret, it must be admitted we are further from this goal than one could have imagined.

Pharaoh Akasha has done what many in Midarayne have opposed for years. She has gone against the very spirit of the Midarayne, taking action which challenges the very ideals of Tajdid, and the sovereignty of Midarayne. We now have foreign powers establishing military holds in Clysperi lands, and war navies parked in gulf of Safrean. All this at the discretion of the Pharaoh. It is an unfortunate reality that blind desperation has caused the Pharaoh to invite armed foreigners to our very doorstep. But it is one that Abuqiya and Midarayne must face.

The question must be asked however is this something Abuqiya can truly support? Can we tolerate the violation of the Tajdid idea, and the Midarayane dream? The answer is no. This Pharaoh has betrayed the trust of Midarayne, but the Qiyadi State shall not comprise our values for a false sense of security, we shall continue to sucure the sovereignty of Abuqiya and promote the greater liberation of Midarayne. Even if the north has abandoned this dream.”

Despite progress made by Self-defense Leagues in Clysperis southern region's, in combating and retaking once Confederacy held territories. The Government has issued an new order to bolster defenses along Abuqiya's northern border as a means “to ensure the containment of violence and protect the homeland from possible extremist actions”. The mention of extremist actions is in reference to an increasing number of detentions in Clysperi Refugees and citizens in the Khasut Federal Administrative Region found to be smuggling weapons from Abuqiya to Clysperis. Some have claimed the further deployment of military assets to the northern border to be excessive, noting the deployment of mobile missile systems and heavy armour.

Abuqiya to “temporarily superintend” the Clysperi Free Trade Zone Corridor
The statement comes following a vote in the Supreme State Congress over the issue which would see Abuqiya officials temporarily take over operations of the Clysperi Free Trade Zone corridor located in the Khasut Federal Administrated Region.  The Corridor was established in agreements made between Abuqiya and Royalist Clysperis officials during the onset of the Clysperi Conflict. Established in Khasut the Corridor is meant to continue the flow of goods from Clysperis to the rest of Midarayne.

Further Government statement has clarified that the measure is a temporary one which will continue until “the stability of Clysperis can be ensured”. Seen as one of the largest financial assets to Northern Midarayne, the government takeover has been stated to ensure the continuation of CFTZ's intended purpose while removing possible factors as dubious loyalties to affect the Corridors operations.

Some critics describe the move as a “desperate attempt, to preserve Abuqiya's economic situation” warning that the Government statement is vauge in what is considered a “Stable Clysperis”. Their criticism are not without warrant as the conflict in Clysperis has led to unintended consequences for Abuiqya. With tensions in the southern shores of the Kyne promulgated by aggressive action from the Empire of Paricambi and the Maori Terrorist State, the deployment of foreign military assets in the Safrean Gulf, and sanctions against Tamora, most of Abuqiya's avenues to international trade have effectively been severed. An increasing reliance on land trade has seen the government to take action in renegotiating trade policies with Vanora, Safrean, and Slava Lavosk. In addition a motion has been made to engaging in mining trade with Slava Lavosk which would include the development of, Krušezevac Federal Administrative Region's uranium industry.

Financial Assistance from Tamora sees Refugee Centers a Reality
Financial Assistance and cooperation with the Empire of Tamora has allowed progress on the Refugee project to progress seeing the completion of the third and final center for a swath of incoming refugees.

Imam Kamran Qanbari, Governor Plenipotentiary of the Kamyarmuj Federal Administrative Region, has praised Tamora for its willingness to support. Equal praise comes from Sekhemre Djehuti, Governor Plenipotentiary of the Khasut Federal Administrative Region, who has stated the cooperation between the Empire, Kamyarmuj, and the predominately Clysperi shows “once again the inseparable camaraderie of Manists, the Clysperi People, and Midarayane”. Its been reported a similar written statement was sent to Emperor Abbas of Tamora by the young Hakim thanking both the Emperor and his countryman's efforts in support for the Refugee project and the Tjadid idea.

With all three Centers now open and operating as intended the process of admitting those seeking to flee the violence in their home country can now be carried out more effectively. However while the Project is fulfilling its intended purpose, accounts by those admitted paint a different picture to the Clysperi Conflict.  Yasmin Khouri is one such individual. Having arrived into the project three weeks ago with her two children aged four and seven, she says her reason for fleeing is not the violence of rebel forces nor the alleged tyranny of rebel leader Nekhtou. Instead Yasmin describes the rebels occupation of her small village as a “breath of fresh air, [a] feeling of true safety and liberty”. Something she says where absent under the banner of  Pharaoh Akasha:

“Under her [Pharaoh Akasha's] rules, my feeling of safety and especially of my children's were lessening. I'm a member of the Kemetic faith, and so are my children. We were targeted though because my husband voiced his disagreement with growing Manist influence. But that was it. He simply said he didn't agree with the the Manists, we never expected that would lead our family to become labeled as  racists or Manistphobic...”

Yasmin  continues to describe her experience explaining that armed men came to her families home setting it ablaze forcing her family to flee outside. Once outside the men brutally beat her husband and Yasmin as well. It was this and the subsequent brutal execution of Chaths Sarkis & Abasi Bahar, two Clysperi citizens accused of beating a Manist Practitioner, that led to Yasmin and her husband to flee to the south.

Other stories like this accompany the numerous refugees  each describing similar occurrences of Clysper Royalist's targeting themselves and their families. Umayma Malouf, another mother from the southern Regions of Clysperis tells her reason for fleeing being what she describes as the “Pharaoh's insane policies”:

“My husband's father served in civil-war. He [the father] worked with the soviets as a liaison to prevent unnecessary violence against civilians during the war. Civilians! He worked to protect the people who call that deranged woman Pharaoh! And despite his father now being dead my husband was accused of treason.” Umayma explains that local police without warning stormed their apartment complex on the orders of the pharaoh herself. Umayama's Husband was one of 527 people who were arrested on charges of collusion with soviet forces and sentenced to slavery. It wasn't until rebel forces took over Umayama's village that she was reunited with her husband. To Umayama the actions of the Pharaoh have struck wounds she can never forgive.

There are numerous stories like this from the incoming refugees once again calling into question how Abuqiya should address the conflict.

The Clysperi conflict
Rebel General Captured
A new dawn shines over the nation of Clysperis. A once war-torn nation split between Ideological differences, and instability of leadership, now sees a new era of potential peace in the land of the pyramids.  The rebel leader of the so-called Confederation of Clysperis, General and President Nekhtou, waged a bloody path across the nation calling into question the legitimacy of Pharaoh Akasha (Di-`nh-mi-Re) and the very foundation of the Clysperi political system. The conflict has raged across Clysperis of which the effects have been felt throughout the region. Through the efforts of a coalition led by the Pharaoh & the Royal Clysperi Army, with the support of the Tamoran military, and assistance of the by the Empire of Achkaerinese, Clysperi State Media now reports that the renegade general  and leader of the Confederation of Clysperis has been officially captured by coalition forces, effectively putting an end to the conflict.

The Future of Clysperis?
Though the prospect of peace is a comforting one the question remains. What will become of Clysperis, and what awaits the future of the nation? The long path of reconstruction is expected to begin with many new projects to recover lost infostructure expected to be among the top of priorities in the post war Clysperis. This news is to the relief of many displaced Clysperi who currently reside within Abuqiya, some of whom are more than ever eager to return to their now safe home a begin their life anew. However, others are less inclined to seek a path back to their home-nation.  While the end of conflict was met with festive enthusiasm across Abuqiya (particularly among Abydoni-Clysperi-Ibiaun communities), many among the Kemetic population are still divided on their views of the Pharaoh and the return to the status-quo. Some among the influx of Clysperi refugees, though fleeing the violence, welcomed the prospect of a new Clypseri political system and the ideals championed by rebel leader Nekhtuo, enshrined in the proposed Confederation of Clysperis state.

A new Pharaoh
Two months ago a new piece of the increasingly puzzling Clysperi situation was brought to light. An open address to the Clysperi people heralding the arrival of a new Pharaoh.  A young man around late 20 to 30 years of age known only by the name Ramose has proclaimed himself as the rightful Pharaoh of Clysperis in a public broadcast on social media.  Claiming to reside somewhere in Clysperis Ramose criticized current Pharaoh Akasha’s actions citing them as polarizing Clysperis into a negative light on the world stage.  Should he come to power Ramose also promises to enact political reforms which would see the transition of power from the autocratic Pharaoh to a division of equal authority between the monarch and an elected legislature. A similar system that utilized in Abuqiya.

It is this proposal and more ‘tame’ approach to the international stage that has garnered Ramose, support within the Supreme State Congress (SSCRNI)[1]. Heralding the possibility of a more “grounded leader” and “less antagonizing of the world community” factions in the SSCRNI have formed in support of the new Pharaoh, disillusioned with current Pharaoh Akasha’s “mishandling” of the current situation in Clysperis. To what avail these factions will prove remains yet to be seen. What is certain is that Ramose has support within Abuqiya for his claim.

SSCRNI: Potential recognition of Seleucid Cultist Enclave
The Supreme State Congress has been rife with debate and discourse over the past few weeks. The topic: Recognition of a Cultist State within the Royal Seleucid. For years Abuqiya has been staunchly opposed to the recognition of a legitimate cultist polity within the Royal Seleucid. The question of  Cultist legitimacy within Abuqiya (and to an extent the whole of Midarayne, from a Qiyadi viewpoint)  can attribute its origins to Ankub[2] scholar Khemsaibesheh. In his work “The Qiyadi Identity and Abuqiya Nation”, a socio-political and commentary piece which attempts to explain a common culture that cements the diverse populations of Abuqiya into a singular ethnic group.

One of the groups that was failed to be mentioned as apart of this common Identity was the Namist and Helusian Cultist population. Described as having an overwhelmingly xeno culture, unable to be reconciled with the rest of the cultural groups yet compatible with each other, Khemsaibesheh proposed the concept of focusing the Cultists populations into a self-contained region. The first concept of a FAR.

Though Cultists have a place within Abuqiya and Qiyaid history the community has often been viewed as the pariah of Qiyadi culture. However with the increasingly mutual relationship between Emir Heydar and prominent cultist officials both within the Royal Seleucid and abroad, the question has been brought up if it is time for Abuqiya to follow suit. With the consideration of future Seleucid-Qiyadi relations the SSCRNI has engaged in lengthy debate regarding the “Cultist Situation” cementing clear factions for and against recognizing the Cultist region of Royal Seleucid.

Split Views
Of note are an anti-recognition action lead by Ankub delegate Qibepet. Citing that recognition of the “Cultist occupation” gives legitimacy to the free will of foreign intervention within Midarayne, Qibepet and his faction have attempted to block any motion in favor of supporting recognition.  In contrast a coalition of delegates in favor of recognition, jointly lead by Helusian Marissa Rolande (delegate of the Cultist FAR) and Namist cleric Brother Caleb, cites the ability of Cultists to maintain their culture and achieve mutual coexistence in Abuqiya. Something the proclaim can be emulated within Royal Seleucid. They pro-recognition faction also cities increasing willingness of Emir Heydar, himself, to promote cooperation with Cultist nations.
Weather or not the recognition will be reality remains to be seen.

Memorial erected in Northern Abuqiya
A memorial in the town of  Sasi-Mesu in northern Abuqiya has been erected to commemorate the Clysperis refugee situation that has affected much of Midarayne. Utilizing minerals imported from Waddan, the piece features three figures meant to represent Clysperis, Abuqiya, and Tamora. Together these three personifications raise up a flagpole with the de facto Pan-Midarayne flag displayed. Below these figures, on the base of the monument, is written in the three languages of Arabic, Parthian, & Clysperi,  “Three Horizons one Dawn”.

Attending the reveal of the Monument was His Majesty King (Hakim, Effendi, Ḥaty-a, Şehzade) Mujahid accompanied by members of the esteemed court.  The monument is meant to honor the three nations efforts with the refugee crisis. In particular the cooperation between Clysperi and Qiyadi officials for ensuring the security of the border and preventing unnecessary violence or deaths against fleeing civilians. The monument also commemorates the efforts of Tamora and the assistance of the Tamoran and Manist communities in funding and establishing the Refugee centers. Something which has been described as paramount to the success of the Centers.

Spokespersons of the esteemed court also conveyed His Majesty’s personal message of gratitude to Shah Abbas, Mother of Tamora Lady Alya Safavid and Ayatollah Azad Arak for their efforts in seeing the Refugee Centers become a reality.
