To:-

His Imperial Majesty Emperor Abbas Safavid
His Majesty Shahanshah Farhad II Shah

This coming week see's our Anahitaist faith celebrate its Festival of Water, a time when our faith give thanks for the water that sprung forth from the desert forming our beautiful nation. There is an annual series of festivities that take place at Ipsus Royal Palace. This year I would like to give thanks not just for the wondrous land of Seleucid but also for having regional neighbours beyond compare. As such I would like to invite both of you, either personally or via an appointed delegate, to attend our festivities. I also have an ulterior motive as I would like to present to you a proposal that I believe will bring our three nations closer together.

With Many Blessings

King Akakois of Royal Seleucid.

Praise be to you and your house!
I happily accept this rare opportunity to right the wrongs of the past, and will attend personally. As you might know I have no real power in Tarrokh, so for these ulterior motives I wish to bring a representative of the government, namely Foreign Minister Kamran Dabiri if that is alrigth with your highness.

Looking forward to our meeting

Shahanshah Farhad II Shah

Ipsus had become rather busy over the last 48 hours, anyone with relatives here had made the trip in and hotels and hostels had been booked up for months, some even since last year. The Festival of Water was one of the great moments in the Seleucid calender and the most important date in the year for the Anahitaist faithful. Since sunraise yesterday the beautiful fountains that stood in the Royal Palace grounds had been shut down and no one had allowed a drop of water to pass their lips, many slacked their thirst by eating sweet fruit and savouring the juice but directly drinking was seen as breaking the water fast. It was so frowned upon that shopkeepers even took to removing drinks from sale, some larger stores even had pull down blinds they could put in place to remove temptation from the faithful. It would only be once the Royal Palaces fountains began again that the fast would be seen to have ended.

Obviously there were ways round it, as Queen Oksana took her morning shower she allowed some of the water to be drunk slacking her thirst. It was her first big  Anahitaist festival and in a way she was looking forward to it. Outside the Palace large crowds where gathering as the faith's main shrine was built half in and half out the Palace grounds. It was said to mark the spot where the Goddess had transformed the undrinkable salt water of the oceans into palatable fresh water allowing humanity to survive and the small spring that formed the centre piece of the white marble shrine still flowed today. Within the Palace grounds preparations were being made already for a rather large party. The swimming pools had been freshly cleaned and fresh towels and linen put on the reclainers. On the large terrace chefs finished preparing a whole banquet worth of food while on the lawn a portable wooden floor was put in place for anyone wishing to dance. Inside the palace games and entertainment for the children was being prepared as well.

Cars had been dispatched to the airport to pick up their two royal guests and the King's Nephew Prince Danyal, a 19 year old friend of Princess Thelka had been sent to welcome them. He was a little nervous, the last time he'd welcomed a foreign dignatry it had been the Pope and the man's refusal of a gift that had seen him thrashed heavily by King Akakois. He therefore shifted uneasily not wanting a repeat of the situation. He would simply wait for each to arrive at the airport, bow to each party, introduce himself and then escort them to the waiting cars which would whisk them through the streets, a police motorcycle team forcing a way through the crowds near the Palace. The crowds parted readily enough, many realising it was guests of the King and in the custom of the event launching plumes of water from bottles over the cars. Each car had a aide of the King in, "The festivities will see what I suppose you could call a giant water fight once the King and his family have visited the shrine, the act of the water is like wishing someone luck for the year ahead" they explained as a group of young children darted out the crowd and squirted the passenger windows and waved before hurrying off back to waiting parents.

At the Palace itself King Akakois had assembled all his family, each of the men dressed in simple white linen suits and bare footed, the women in white dresses with long sleeves and skirts, each with a bejewelled clasp fastening a cloak to their outfit. The women wore an attire similar to the Priesthood which would conduct the ceremony the only difference being the Priestesses cloaks would be attached with wooden pins. The King waited for his guests to arrive and lead his four wives, five children and three grandchildren out onto the terrace, Akakois held the hand of his youngest son, the four year old Prince Shahin. "Greetings friends" the King exclaimed as the two visiting monarchs exited the cars, two Royal Guardsman holding the doors and saluting. "Welcome to our home" he gestured around the vast expanse of lush green garden which was a stark contrast to the rough semi arid terrain that seemed to stop exactly at the Palace perimeter. "I am delighted to have had my invitation accepted and I have something interesting to offer you each later, but first I must go and conduct this ceremony.....after all the people are thirsty." he chuckled.

"Daddy can I have a milkshake soon?" Shahin asked as his father mentioned thirst.

"I shall do you a deal son. If you get your part in the ceremony correct then I shall get you a milkshake bigger than you have ever seen." he ruffled his sons dark hair. "I had hoped to break the news of child number six being on its way" he gestured to Oksana his newest and youngest wife, "But alas not yet" he introduced the visitors to his extensive family. "Now tell me, did that fool Danyal do his duty well?" Akakois asked them both keen to see if the boy had learnt his lessons, he may be only a nephew but he still held the title Prince and so was a reflection on the King. "And my second question is do you wish to take part in the ceremony, simply witness it or put your feet up and relax here. We shall be around an hour, if you wish my household can find you swimming attire, you can have a soak if you wish. Sadly I can not offer you a drink until our return, the Goddess would see it as cheating." he smiled as he waited their responses.

"I can't complain one bit about our welcome" Farhad II Shah said before clearing his throat.
"I wasn't prepared for a choice in the matter to be frank, although when I've come all the way here it would be a shame not to partake in the real deal" said the Shah, as he waited for Foreign Minister Dabiri to do the same. Dabiri was a short stumpy man, born and raised in the eastern Jakola region he was the only non Tariqi minister at the moment. He looked at Prince Danyal as he said: "I'll have to agree with the Shah about the welcome of your nephew, your Majesty. Seeing the ceremony would be an honour"

Abbas was in the private plane on his way to Royal Seleucid. It was his first trip abroad in a very long time. It wasn't just that he didn't like traveling aboard but it was also a matter of tradition and customs. The Emperor of Tamora was seen in Tamoran culture as the protector of the country, the one to defends the country against foreign aggression. Him going aboard was seen as leaving the country severely weaken in terms of defense. He also had to leave someone in charge of the country while he was away which he did. So he was now doing his regular daily prayers and asking God to help protect Tamora now that he was away.

Travelling aboard was an effort for Abbas that few will realize and none outside of Tamora would understand but he considered it was worth it. Tamora was strong military and keen on guarding its sovereignty at all costs. However, in a world that more and more countries were forming political blocks it became important to at least know where your neighbors stand. So this meeting would potentially see Tamora open relations with Tarrokh at the highest level and in a neutral environment that both could trust.  Where it would go from here only time would tell.

Once he reached Royal Seleucid and went for the car he paid no attention to Prince Danyal. Abbas, as most Tamorans, was not the friendliest of people. Protocol and formality were important and strictly adhered to. However, so was rank, and Prince Danyal didn't even register on Abbas' radar.
As he reached the Royal palace, he greeted Akakios and his family, and praised his friend:

"What a big and wonderful family you have! You are truly blessed." He looked for a couple a moments at Oksana as he said" And I am sure your sixth will come soon."

As the King asked about Danyal, he remembered the small "scandal" a while back, so he responded:

"Yes, he did well!"

When it came to the ceremony, it was a easy for him to decide. As a Manist and very faithful to his faith, we would never take part in another religion's rituals, especially a polytheistic one. However, not observing was something he couldn't do as a friend but also as an emperor that had a kingdom* with Anahitaism as an official religion.

"I would like to witness, friend."

He then noticed the other two men. Abbas exchanged glances with them but didn't initiate contact leaving the presentations for the host to do.

*Tamora has six kingdoms, Abbas is emperor over all and directly rules one of them.

Akakois gave some orders to one of the families servants, the oldish woman nodded and took Farhad and Dabiri off into the Palace, they were found a suitable white linen suit for themselves. Once the party was back together they wandered through the gardens heading towards the Shrine of Anahita. The shrine was made out of white marble and while having a rather small floor area it had multiple floors. It had two entrances, one from the road outside that passed the Royal Palace and the other from the Palace grounds. It was almost like a portal to another world, outside in the street the Seleucid nation was dusty, the arid conditions meaning the small breeze often kicked up mini whirlwinds of dust blown in from the desert. Meanwhile the Palace gardens were lush and green, an oasis among the brown and yellows. The people near the fence that seperated the two worlds cheered when they saw the royal party coming they knew that soon they could begin drinking once more. The Palace staff had been out and about among them and flags from all three nations were being waved by children.

"Your Royal Majesty" a middle aged woman in a pale blue linen dress tied with a white sash greeted Akakois as he reached the bottom steps, a TV camera crew was present as worshippers across the nation prepared for the signal that their water fast could end. The King took his right hand touched it to his heart and then stooped to touch the bare feet of the Priestess. "May the Goddess bless you most high" she said with a smile as she was embraced by the King. The royal family lined up and one at a time greeted the Priestess. The Queens copied the Kings actions while the Princes and Princesses knelt and touched the Priestesses feet. The Priestess simply motioned for the visiting royals to follow them into the Temple, stairs lead to the left and right taking people up to a 2nd level where prayers would normally take place, the floor sloped towards a marble lined trough that ran from left to right in the centre of the Shrine. A large round stone sat in one end of it capping off the usual flow of water. To the sides of the shrine were tables. The TV cameras had switched to filming the crowd while the Priestess spoke to the group more to inform the visitors of what was going on. "Our faith teaches that their are five great evils that the Goddess has set us the challenge to overcome. We must end poverty, hunger, thirst, homelessness and lonliness. At every one of our celebrations we attempt to show the Goddess that we are making progress towards these things and if we are the Goddess blesses us. She watches carefully the royal family as they are the representative of our people." An aide appeared and handed each person something, to the two Tarrokh visitors they handed one a tray of pearls and the other a tray of polished black onyx stones. The cameras now reappeared at the royals and the Priestess got things under way.

"People of the Goddess, we gather here in search of water to quench our thirst. We have suffered through the long dark night without a drop to sustain us and now we stand ready to earn the blessings of the most Holy" she announced, "Oh, Anahita. We thank you for your blessings and dedicate ourselves for another year to do your bidding and end the Five Great Evils. Your most beloved have once more brought you gifts to earn your favour." King Akakois made his way to one of the tables and placed a heavy gold necklace on the table and a cheer came from outside, next the Queens all made their way to a table and laid their own gifts food and drink, next up the Princes who again presented gifts representing wealth, the procession continued with the Princesses repeating the cycle of food and drink before their guests rounding things off with the trays of riches. There was a pause as the Priestess made her way down to the marble trough that ran through the centre. She tilted her head back as though a wolf howling at the moon and used a small knife to slice the palm of her hand, she squeezed tightly forcing a few drops of blood to drip onto the beautifully pure white marble floor of the trough. "Anahita you have seen our progress, you have seen my sacrifice. Please see it and bless us once more" the King walked forward and knelt next to where the stone was, in truth it was nothing more than a prop but he made play of lifting it free. No sooner had he placed it into the keeping of his son Prince Hadi for him to remove it to the side of the shrine than water began flowing, at first a trickle but then a flow that would have come up well above the ankle if you stood in it. The drops of blood were washed away almost instantly and once more people cheered. The King knelt and dipped his hands into the water funneling the crystal clear cool water into his mouth. Outside a chant of "DRINK!DRINK!DRINK!" began as the King quenched his thirst. He stood, drops still coming from his short beard.

Outside was a scene of joyous chaos, people had brought bottles of water with them and watching on a nearby big screen the festival they waited for when the King stood. Loud singing began as people poured the old water over anyone around them, some children had even brought water pistols and chased through the crowd in what had become a giant water fight. Naturally everyone ensured they drank too and before long the ground was becoming a little muddy and everyone was soaked. Strangers hugged each other and wished each other well before beginning to form an orderly line. As the royal family and their guests left the shrine the general public were being allowed in. The full water bottles they had brought with them were now empty and would be refilled from the spring that the scriptures said had been where Anahita had transformed salty sea water into pure water.

As the royals made their way back towards the Palace there were still people along the fence, some still with water splashing it towards the royals including the children with waterpistols firing them at their monarch. He smiled and waved before answering his son Shahin's whispered question with a pat on the head before releasing his hand, the boy shot off towards the fence carrying his own water bottle in his hand. He was soon soaked through as he began squirting the bottle towards the public stood outside. Akakois remembered doing something similar back in his youth. A swoosh sound began and the sprinkler system kicked in.

As they reached the patio of the Palace seats had been arranged and tall iced glasses of mint tea had been prepared. "I hope you all managed to stay at least a little dry" the King handed Abbas and Farhad the first glasses. "Now please, sit relax and we shall talk some. As you saw its the need of my people to end five great evils, lonliness is one. I believe we can work hard together to make sure none of our nations are lonely. I'd appreciate your suggestions on how we do this before I present my own."

Abbas watched carefully the ritual before him, he was amazed to see his friend touching the bare feet of the priestess with his hand and then see the rest of the family do it too. Such reverence for priests, and women priests above all, was something he wasn't comfortable with. He of course let none of it show and maintained a sober appearance throughout the ritual.

He replied to the King:

"Thank you for allowing me to observe the ritual. As for suggestions, since the Mundus games are taking place and my staff has informed me of the troubles our athletes are facing there: from oppressive authorities which disregard religious freedom to foreign athletes that confuse politics with sports, I guess some sort of friendly competition between our three countries wouldn't hurt. Not only would it be a more pleasurable experience for our athletes but also it would give them the chance to earn some more experience.  I obviously don't mean something even near so elaborate or expensive as the Mundus games, it can even be something as simple having our universities athletes compete against each other. "
