Festival of Sail Sign Ups 2019
« on: June 30, 2019, 07:24:34 PM »

This year marks the 205thth anniversary of the Festival of Sail, East Moreland's national celebration of all things nautical. Last year was the biggest celebration to date but also tragic as it saw the death of the Empress of Cabbagelandiet.

This year the invitation to foreign vessels will again be extended as the city of Portworth opens it's doors to the world.

The festival will host historic vessels, working replicas, Military Naval vessels and vessels of other note to the harbour. In total around 2,000 ships make an appearance, some staying the full five days in dock, others merely spending a few hours. We would also like to extend our invitation not just to the vessels of the world but also the governments of the world.

The festival shall begin with an official opening ceremony at 10:30 am on the opening day, during which the King's Royal Sword shall be brought into harbour by a nominated boat. This will be accompanied by a parade of "small boats" representing sailing clubs, youth groups and keen enthusiasts, as always this parade will be ended with the Royal Robert entering the harbour. In the days that follow there will be various events taking place in the harbour, around the city and with tours of the coast conducted by a variety of vessels, including one of the Royal East Moreland Navy's newest prototypes, the Ekrabadger II. As usual on the closing evening a special event shall be hosted by King David III.

We look forward to welcoming you to Portworth soon.

May The Gods Watch Over You and Your Seas Be Calm

Katy Garnet
Minister of Culture and Tradition

Brief Background to ship:- The Ecoship project is a new eco-friendly ship developed by Peace Boat, a Krimeonite non-profit organisation that promotes human rights and environmental sustainability by organising peace voyages on chartered passenger ships. Considered to be among the world’s first ten-mast cruise liners as well as the greenest, the ship was lanuched in early 2019 and is able to carry approximately 5,000 people a year while hosting exhibitions on green technology in up to 80 ports each year. It is also capable of serving as a floating sustainability laboratory, helping in research related to ocean, climate and green marine technology.

Nation: Kingdom of Tytor
Vessel: HTMS St. Joseph
Image:
Spoiler: Image • show

Background: Originally launched in 1795 and in perpetual commission since 1917, HTMS St. Joseph remains the oldest warship in the Tytorian Royal Navy.  A masterpiece of naval engineering from the height of the Age of Sail, the St. Joseph holds a special place in the hearts of the Tytorian public, and pretty much always has.  It was nicknamed "Old Ironsides" in 1810 following a battle in which the enemy ship's cannonballs seemed to simply bounce off its sides, and it has recaptured the public imagination on many occasions since.  Due to meticulous preservation methods, the St. Joseph is fully capable of travelling under its own power, and will accordingly sail itself to Portworth in time for this year's Festival of Sail.
Proposed Role: As with the 2015 Festival: during the first two days of the festival, HTMS St. Joseph will be open to guided tours conducted by crew members. The next two days will include reenactments of the frigate's sea trials in 1795; festival-goers will be able to sign up for spots onboard. The final day, St. Joseph will be dockside once more and open for tours. (OOC: If any of the days scheduled happens to be a Sunday, the crew will be holding a short church service on deck that morning. The service will be open to all comers.)

Nation: Kingdom of Tytor
Vessel: Tall Ship St. Linus
Image:
Spoiler: Image • show

Background: Originally in commission in the Tytorian Royal Navy from 1818 to 1896, HTMS St. Linus served with some distinction, becoming the first Tytorian ship to circumnavigate the globe in 1829.  Upon decommissioning, the St. Linus was purchased by an entrepreneur and moved to Port Monsoon for use as an upscale dining establishment, a role it served until 1984.  In 1988, the St. Linus was purchased by the HTMS St. Linus Foundation.  The ship was then faithfully restored to its condition at the time of its famous 1829 circumnavigation, with the result placed on public display in 1992.
Proposed Role: The HTMS St. Linus Foundation will present the Tall Ship St. Linus (the prefix HTMS is legally restricted to ships in formal naval commission) as a museum depicting Tytor's long and proud naval tradition.

Nation: Kingdom of Tytor
Vessel: HTMS St. Alban
Image:
Spoiler: Image • show

Background: Lead ship of the St. Alban class of frigates built for the Tytorian Royal Navy in the mid-1980s, HTMS St. Alban is a much more modern representative of Tytorian frigate-building.  The fifth warship to bear its name, the St. Alban is considered state-of-the-art for the TRN when it comes to frigates.
Proposed Role: Due to potential national security concerns, the modern frigate HTMS St. Alban will remain inaccessible to festival-goers apart from photo opportunities.  It will be in attendance only because of the potential risks of sending a pair of 200-plus-year-old wooden sail frigates halfway around the world.

Nation: Kingdom of Tytor
King's Banquet Attendees: Admiral Lord Robert Waverly-Edwards, Ranking Officer of the Tytorian Royal Navy, and his wife, the Princess Annabel; Peter Weatherby, Tytorian Ambassador to East Moreland, and his wife, Frances

Brief Background to ship: Replica Galleons, used every year by students in Sturmheim for their Annual Summercamp Battle, though they Train all Year round with them. Schools compete for the right to use the Ships, the School holding the Most ships at once is holding great prestige. Have been present at the Festival for the last 2 Years already.

What would you like it to do while in Portworth: Up to four ships docked and open for Visitors, partially with Music shows, and the Sturmheim Schools advertising themselves to Visitors, along the Summer camp idea. On the first day short Joyrides are planned for interested students alike, while on one other day it's planned to hold the first half of the annual battle between the ships slightly outside the Port if weather allows.

Nation:- The Most Serene and Celestial Empire of Xæth
Boat:- ANS Mariam

Image:-
Spoiler: Image • show

Brief Background to ship:- The ANS Mariam served as the flagship of the Royal Attican Navy prior to the nation's annexation in 1958, and was one of the ships that refused the order of surrender and instead fled to Xæth. There it served proudly in the Xæthoon Imperial Navy as the IXNS Mariam until it was decommissioned in the late 70s. The ship was viewed as an important symbol of the Attican diaspora in Xæth and of their refusal to bow to a foreign conqueror (the Tamorans) and in 1984 it was acquired for restoration by the Attican Advancement Association after several years of negotiation with the restoration only recently being publicly announced as completed.

What would you like it to do while in Portworth:- The ANS Mariam has been converted into a floating museum focusing on Attican history and culture, with an emphasis on that of the Attican diaspora across Mundus.

Several people have asked can they still attend despite the IC thread starting. Simple answer is yes. The sign up is just so I know who is there so I can send characters to interact. So please feel free to turn up but it would be useful if you could drop stuff here too.
