Respecting a Warrior
« on: May 19, 2020, 09:21:27 PM »

To:- His Majesty King David of East Moreland

As of late the two nations of ours have celebrated prestigious events. You have gained a wife and Queen while the Diarchy has recently gained a new King following some turmoil. As such these events have seen us both unable to have any face to face meeting monarchs to monarchs. Myself and the new King, Jonas, would very much like to have a meeting with yourself as neighbours. We are aware that this weekend is your nation's birth celebration, the Festival of Greenflowers. Having read about this event I understand it is a celebration of the people who fought to create your Kingdom and as such myself and King Jonas would like to pay our respects to fallen warriors. We would like to do so without impeeding your own celebrations as we understand it is also your birthday. If possible we would like to meet the day before or day after if at all capable.

With Best Wishes

Queen Karin of Hassfurt
Champion of Sandraudiga

The Kingdom of East Moreland is happy to host a formal meeting between the two nations. In that regard we would like to invite you on the afternoon of May 24th to meet with myself at Rockhampton Royal Retreat. During the previous day we will be attending various events and functions at locations across the nation however we would be happy to arrange for you to visit any site that you wish to. We greatly appreciate the gesture you are making on our nations birthday.

May The Gods Watch Over You and Your Nation Know Peace

King David III of East Moreland.

Rockhampton Royal Retreat was David's favourite royal residence for a number of reasons, the views of the countryside, the fresh Alpine air and the memories of childhood of himself and his two sisters playing Knights in the castles old towers. If it hadn't been for the huge amount of upheavel it would cause David would have moved his government to Rockhampton and lived here all the time but Northfort was by far the more established centre for East Moreland although it didn't stop the King using Rockhampton for state occasions from time to time. The King had risen early and gone for a wander in the woods and now sat in his office reviewing the folders he'd been given on the Hassfurtian monarchs. His new wife was due to sit in on the meeting and came and sat on the arm of the chair. "She's pretty" Stasya said taking the photo of Queen Karin from the folder and examining it.

"Yes" David was still reading the document he was midway through before the Queen arrived.

"Prettier than me?" Stasya placed a hand on David's shoulder. The King sensed he'd fallen into some kind of trap but wasn't really sure.

"Of course not" The King replied taking the photo back and placing it in the folder as he closed it.

"Good" Stasya slid of the arms of the chair to now sit in her husband's lap. "Anyway they've just arrived at the helipad at the foot of the hill so now you'll get to see for yourself." she planted a kiss on his lips before spinning out of the chair and taking hold of his hand helping him to his feet. About 3km away by road but only a few hundred meters as the bird flies the East Moreland royal families helicopter had arrived having been to pick up the Hassfurtian Royals from where they had spent the previous day. They would be picked up by the King's car and driven through the woodland road that curved its way around the hillside that the castle was built upon until it reached the front gatehouse of the castle where a group of black jacketed soldiers from the Alpine Cadre stood ready to provide an honour guard. David and Stasya made their way down and through the cobblestone courtyard which was basked in the early morning sun. It didn't take long for sound of vehicles to be heard through the mass of trees and then soon the vehicle arrived and a guardsman opened the door. "Queen Karin, King Jonas. Welcome to East Moreland" the King extended a hand as they exited the vehicle.

Queen Karin had reviewed much on the nation of East Moreland from the time she became Queen and could never understanding why the two nations were not closer. They had many differences but then there was clearly ways of connections. They were both monarchies, they both believed in the aspect of military duty, they both valued martial prowess and there to was the belief that the championed the cause of Gods. The Queen was still getting to know the new King, the duo had yet to move in to the Palace they shared together instead both prefering to spend their time in their private residence. They had come together a day ago to fly the short hop into East Moreland where they spent the day together enjoying the occasion. First they had travelled rather unceremoniously to the Battlefield site once the crowds had left. The two monarchs spent the day strolling the historic site. It was when the crowd thinned that the pair approached the stone for the Morelander first King and left among the offerings a small bronze statue of a soldier in armor carrying a spear. From the battle field they retired to the capital city of East Moreland and enjoyed for a small time the music concert in the Park before a meal in a nice restaurant they had recommend by the hosts. The dual monarchs retired early eager to be awake ready for their flight to Rockhampton.

The flight to Rockhampton was enjoyable to see the countryside and then a fairytale type castle. In truth the castle would not look wrong in Hassfurt except for its locale on top of the steep wooded hill. Upon the ground they had expected to be in the castle vacinity straight away but did not expect a drive snaking up the hillside to the gates. At the top Queen Karin was pleased to see the East Moreland monarchs waiting for them and the favourable greeting they were given. It was King Jonas who accepted the hand of David first. "Good morning Your Majesty." Jonas said as her firmly shook the Kings hand before gently doing likewise to Stasya as Queen. Jonas then stepped aside and let his Queen greet the two.

"Good Morning Your Majesties" Karin greeted, "I hope King David both you and east Moreland had an enjoyable birthday. We would like to say how welcome the people of Northfort made us. We enjoyed the concert a lot." She reached back into the car, "We have a birthday gift for you. My people tells me you are a historian I think." She stood upright a long parcel retrieved surrounded in a cloth wrap. She handed it to Jonas who held it horizontal while she unwrap the gift to show the King. "We know as a nation you have a thing for the ways of old. People suggested you get a gift of a sword from us but then I hear you have museums full of blades. So instead we bring you this." It was a heavy wooden stave with a brighlty coloured cord as the string to form the bow. Its tips bore in silver the heads of Honeybadgers.

"I do not know if you shoot Your Majesty" Jonas enquired, "But I have a little experience and can give you some pointers if you wish." Jonas then worried he had said something imply that David was unskilled. "Or maybe you can give me some." he added hoping his first diplomatic meet was not already in trouble.

David knew that historically the longbow had been a key part of the nations military however there was just something about it that didn't scream noble. It was probably because of how he had read that during battles the longbow turned the average peasant into the killer of a well trained knight. It was though a weapon worthy of respect and this one was a beautiful example of the work. "If I'm honest I have only ever tried one of the bows like they use at the Mundus Games and that was rather lighter than this. Unfortunately I don't think I'll be that good." The King placed a hand on the small of his back, "Lets just say an old war wound is not going to do my technique any favours." It was here he'd been shot during a terrorist attack and had lost a fair bit of muscle in his lower left back. While today he could still do many things it made sitting or standing in one place for a long period difficult and even some forms of exercise difficult.

Stasya took the bow for a second and gave it a testing pull however the string barely flexed in her hand. "Its a lot stronger than you think isn't it." She smiled before handing the bow back to her husband. "Its a very well thought out gift. I'm sure the Morelanders....our people... will find it a great addition to the museums here." Stasya linked arms with Jonas and lead him into the castle's courtyard which was lined with soldiers who presented arms in salute. David meanwhile was left to escort the Hassfurt Queen into the castle. "So tell me Jonas.....you don't mind if I do away with the formalities now we are out of the public gaze" she didn't really wait for a response. "like me you're new to all this monarchy business. How are you finding it?"

Meanwhile David was a few steps behind, "Queen Karin may I ask how you found yesterday. What did you and ......" the King thought for a moment or two and was unsure what he was supposed to say, "please forgive me asking but how should I refer to King Jonas, your husband, partner.....the Hassfurt monarchy is rather unique in its workings and I sadly have little knowledge of its little details."

Jonas was shock by the forwardness of Stasya linking arms but did not mind but he agreed that they were both in similar scenario. "So far life as King has been good. We have many issues back home to handle though as much trust with the old King was at an all time low and he had left the governance of the land in a mixed up position as nothing could really proceed. Regardless of how the fight ended it was necessary for the country so we could move forward." He thought for a moment, "I have also found it rather odd having so many things being done for me, my clothing selected by servants, my cars being driven. I don't know how your husband copes with the boredom of every thought being done for him."

Just behind Karin spoke with the King of Moreland. "We have no concept of marriage in the same way as your Helus does. The simple reason being life for us does not end in death. Death is like a transition. We think like a school report. Death is just an end of term report where we are judge by the two Gods. A good report we are rewarded with a higher station in the next, a bad report we are given a 2nd chance but with restrictions......think of it as been grounded. Therefore marriage would be impossible as each time we are reborn it is without the knowledge of a past life. How would souls find each other again? It would be impossible. Love exists but is momentary, those with which feel a connection we may stay together for this life. Others we feel the connection for a short time. The importance of a connection is to bring respect to the family you have been given a chance to represent and leave them stronger. Also to produce children. To me at the moment Jonas is just my King. In time he may become my partner but never my husband." While some from Hassfurt married it was a minority who thought the way that marriage was a sensible idea. " But I hope your new married life is well?" she enquired as she followed him towards the meeting.

David found it rather an odd arrangement in Hassfurt but did his best to try and hide his opinions on the matter as he listened. "Well us Cultists believe that when the time for death comes we are judged, if we have done well in life we go and live with Helus and the Gods in the afterlife which is supposed to be a woodland paradise. I believe my son Caspian is waiting there for me. I'm just glad now to be married to Stasya I think I've ended up a very lucky man" he said and noticed his Queen smiled at him amid her own conversation. "The marriage is still new but I'm loving married life."

By now they'd reached the top of one of towers that had a large patio balcony which overlooked the forest that surrounded the old castle. Beneath them a green canopy of trees stretched away into the distance with just the odd opening here and there which marked a small settlement or individual house. A twinkling blue gem like lake ended the greeness and a feint breeze took away the heat of the day. "I think mine and my husbands days are very different" Stasya explained to King Jonas, "My role is less government based and is more about promoting the good works the Ironside family do. Although I have seen life from the other side of royalty having been a Lady in Waiting to Queens of Lodja." She had served both the late Queen Viktoriya and then Queen Klara and had taken care of many of their day to day needs leaving them free to run the nation. "You find much to do that fills your time though and that prevents boredom."

With everyone settled it was maybe time to turn things towards business and so David commenced matters. "I'm keen to put right years of us just being quiet neighbours to each other. There are obviosusly obsticles that we will need to overcome but I think there are ways we can move forward. As is well reported I believe that it is important for a region to take responsibility for its own future and I have worked to try and give the Mhorish and Illumic, and Alba Karinya, more of a path to co-operation. I don't want the days of the old USR swanning in whenever they want and then relying on people like Rokkenjima to sort it out. As such I want to see how we can integrate Hassfurt into our networks. Have you given much thought to the situation of the past?"

Jonas was willing to permit the Queen to lead the situation. She was more briefed on situations from the past as she had been longer in the position. He turned to face the Queen. "Those days we were content to see to ourselves. The USR were never perceived as a threat to the coastal batteries of old. That may be naïve of those in power then. We though have not liked the scenes of various foreign nations taking liberty in the Illumic. That is some action we should not let take again. As for joining these organisations we would have more confidence in these bodies if they were not so much following East Moreland but rather genuine partners. We view Bakkermaya as a nation of worth in respect but also servant of East Moreland, Heyra are not driven to be much other than a bank and we do not think Vaguzia we have seen little of since King Leonard died and Zimalia is an oddity. Across the waters we have Seaforth who are unwilling to do much and then further North we have this new outpost for Achkaerin, more foreign influence. At this point Hassfurt is reluctant to join AKO or MICA. We do however think the manner of East Moreland and the ideals of Hassfurt are compatible so would wish to make a bilaternal agreement between us for support."

David was a little saddened at the lack of trust from Hassfurt about the region, particularly their assessment of Bakkermaya. "While I think East Moreland and Bakkermaya are natural friends I wouldn't go so far as calling them our servants. The Bakkermayans for example are very active in the Ardian Assembly and we certainly wouldn't dream of advising Grand Duke Hugo of what to do. I've found him a more than able diplomat in his own right and he certainly needs any advice from me, nor do I suspect would he take it without question." The King explained. "As for us doing a bilateral agreement between us we have little problem with this. However there are some issues that I would like to tackle, had you been interested in MICA or AKO I would have explained that when you made your application I'd have brought them up there." This was the awkward moment that he knew would have to come and he suspected any other time this King or Queen spoke with leaders across Mundus it would be a regular matter of discussion. "We generally in bilateral agreements look at extending things like fast track visas, student exchanges and the like. One of our concerns would be, if we take the student exchange as an example, would you only have it open to members of various Strata?"

"Yes" rather surprisingly Stasya interjected. "I have a question about that" David disguised the fact he hadn't expected his wife to say much now they'd got down to business however he was intrigued to see what she would ask. "Emma Maybury is one of my Ladies in Waiting. I assume Your Majesty has a similar member of staff" Stasya turned to Queen Karin, "She fits into your lower group, she is a red head, if our household were to say visit Hassfurt for a holiday what would happen to her?" David nodded, it was a fair question.

"Naturally any Hassfurt citizen visiting East Moreland under relaxed visa conditions would find their Strata irrelevant here. I just need my eyes opening to what a Morelander such as Emma visiting Hassfurt would face." David asked hoping this wouldn't derail things beyond it being just a chat.

Queen Karin knew soon or later that the nature of their belief structure would be a problem for some who did not appreciate the truth of the Duality religion. There would be some time needed for nations to adjust. "If I may explain to you" the Queen began for she was the longer serving of the two as Champion of one of the Gods, in her case the female God Sandraudiga. It was then her task to make sure people understand the wisdom of the Goddess. "We would not prevent anyone from any Strata visiting our nation. They would perhaps find then that while in the nation they are quizzed in certain respects. In the ways Strata find difference in their day to day it is for things like education. To reward for good conduct in previous existance the higher Strata the more access to free education. Should the lowest Strata be accepted on University they would study like others but would need to pay themself. If a Moreland student of the Strata this Miss Maybury is from arrived they would need to pay education fees but so would any Morelander. If East Moreland fund that student fees that would be up to East Moreland. Other areas were what you may consider discrimination take place are gun law, abortion, work as Prostitute, things a visitor to our nation would not access anyway for they are not Hassfurt citizen. In a day to day status the Strata face little what you may consider racism. Miss Maybury would walk the streets with little concern, she would be able to go to restaurant or bar, she would be able to do everything others may. I am not saying she would get the exact same treatment as the highest Strata in a bar but such practice is dying off. I hope this is reassuring to your concerns." The Queen finished explaining.

David in one way felt reassured that his people wouldn't face too many problems but there was still not something that sat comfortably with the answer. "I think rather than giving a blanket visa treaty for perpetuity at this point we should perhaps put limits on our first agreement. The whole explanation you gave on paper at least shows that a Morelander visiting you wouldn't have an issues, however I am concerned still about whether it would be safe. I also have an issue that were say a Morelander to be arrested in Hassfurt what impact their perceived Strata would have. I think a slow approach where we allow the treaty for two years initially and assess how things look after that. We can then meet again and if all has gone well add to what we have in place, it it hasn't gone well we can adapt it to suit the situation." The King didn't particularly like having to do this but there was no way he was about to put the Kingdom into a situation that could make an East Moreland tourists life difficult.

The Queen breathed a sigh of relief that the Morelanders were not ruling the agreement out all together. To date Hassfurt had no real treaty arrangement with any nation and the Morelander did carry quiet a bit of weight around Mundus. "I see no problem with this being a two year agreement for the first case." the Queen began, "However perhaps we should state in any treaty that unless either side is disatisfied in the deal we have it automatically renews for a further five years, then each five after renews automatically. This gives the semblance of the idea that the treaty is one we are proud and happy in and that we intend for it to continue and continue. It though gives us a chance for adapting or adding to the treaty on a regular basis."

"Although" King Jonas leaned in and spoke, "I see no reason why should we enjoy the way things are proceeding that we need wait. If something needs to be said we have ambassadorial appointed for that reason." He paused for a moment. "With respect though the passing of people from nation to nation is for me less significant than passing goods from nation to nation or materials. I would like us to offer the same opportunities the AKO or MICA would have granted but without us needing to be a member. Is that possible?"

David nodded as Queen Karin spoke, "I see no problem with a five year initial period but I would insist on their being some kind of meeting between the monarchs or at least some representative for it to be extended. I wouldn't want the treaty to just be something given a nod to every now and again. Even if it was merely a quick ten minute event during a state visit that was suffice. The King reached under the seat he was sat in and removed a notebook from his briefcase, while most modern leaders may prefer the tablet computer or the laptop David still loved pen and paper. He still at the Palace used paper and pen to send memo's to people within the Palace, it often made him grin when he considered the lack of things anyone capable of hacking the East Moreland Royal e-mail server would actually find. "Perhaps as we are discussing what we want and don't want we should begin getting some of these ideas down. Then once we've got something we're all happy with I can have our civil service make up a formal treaty and we can have the media come and see us sign it." David had already begun scribbling away.

Quote from: Draft Treaty

The Kingdom of East Moreland and the Diarchy of Hassfurt, having meet in Rockhampton on the ?? July 2020 have entered into a Treaty of Co-Operation between their two nations.  1. e.g CNN, CSU, AKO etc

"For now how does this look?" David asked as he slid the paper over towards his guests.

Queen Karin was the accustomed one at looking at documents such as this compared to King Jonas. She took a look first at the Morelanders document and it should seem that it was adequate for what they had discussed at this point so far.  "While the treaty looks solid for us I would like to ask for some clarifying.  In the 2nd point you say they shall have embassies make an active contribution to their community in which they are based. What does this mean you expect people to do in this regard?"  While Karin knew that there would be a need for Hassfurt to expose to other cultures and ideas sooner rather than later the exact manner would still be controlled to ensure the purity of the way of life in Hassfurt.

Jonas now examined the same document. To him he was taking the stance that the thing was a business contract, nations replacing companies. "If we are satisfied for now can we make provision to connect our law enforcement data so that we may check the background of people travelling for the visa issues. Additionally it may be supportive of cross border crime. I think in the past you have had terrorists known as the Borelanders making attacks in the border areas, as such the idea of them making crossing from neighbors is likely and we would not tolerate it if attacks on Hassfurt came from East Moreland and you did not attempt to end them, so we must do our bit and that will need shared data won't it?" He asked.

"In our faith we are expected to be a force of positivity in our community, be that our school, our street, our military unit or the nation. While Cultists have now found themselves spread across Mundus that idea has I hope remained in their actions. The East Moreland Diplomats are told that we expect them to do something to make a contribution to the society they live in. That depends on their interests and skills. Some like Sir Jacob Longe was once in Verover as our CIS ambassador and gave swordsmanship lessons in the local community. The Embassy staff in Lodja have a rugby team and help run local leagues. Others undertake organising cultural events, so for example at the Feast of Marissa people from the embassy tend to organise tree planting projects. We also expect the embassy to help support local good causes such as children's charities and schools if possible. We in turn welcome embassies here in East Moreland to do likewise." The King hoped he'd been clear with what he meant.

Next he turned to King Jonas, "We would welcome naturally any action taken to weaken the Borlander threat. We would be happy to allow access to criminal records when it comes to border crossing, we would also be willing to put in place extradition rules so long as they comply with the MCUR, I know you are yet to sign that and I understand your reasoning even if I may not agree with it. We would however not be willing to send someone for trial unless reassured that the nature of your trials comply with it."

"Well sign me for some swordsmanship lessons" King Jonas seemed excited by the concept. "While I think in return we may need to think about what we can offer it is certain we shall come up with something, we as a nation have several beer festivals, perhaps a festival in our embassy in Northforts could be arranged?" he suggested first looking at Queen Karin who nodded and then at the King. "I think also helping with charity is a good deal, after all we are asked to show love to all of the two gods creations. Perhaps you could have people arrange to put us in touch with charities you feel are in need of support or dear to Moreland hearts. I understand you have several for veterans charities, these are people we would wish to support if we can. I know also you and New Urburzis did some work for children cancers and that too is a great cause. Once we have children I can not imagine the thought of how challenging it was for your daughter and yourself."

"In terms of extradition" The Queen changed topic unsure if the talk of the daughter's illness would be upsetting for their host. "We are not signed to the MCUR nor shall we be. Would it therefore be enough to say we shall extradite criminals once details of the charge have been provided along with probably suspicion as well as an undertaking that a member of the extraditing nations embassy is given access to them throughout any trial to ensure no torture is used and the trial is fair?"

"I like the sound of a beer festival" King David liked the fact Jonas seemed keen to get his embassy staff involved in things in East Moreland. "As for the swordsmanship lessons if you're serious I can make sure it happens. We generally have member of our military attached to embassies as security and I'm sure we can find a Legionnaire who can give a lesson or three. As for charities yes we have a lot of strong support for veterans charities and sadly our project with Neu Urburzis has yet to come into fruition.  We would be thrilled though to get more nations onboard." David didn't care to dwell on the thought of his daughter and so turned to Queen Karin's point.

"In regards to what you say that is essentially what the MCUR states in terms of extraditions. If you prefer we can word it the way that you wish, it makes no difference to us but we agree to that wording if you prefer." David made a few scribbled changes to the document and then handed it back.

Queen Karin looked first at the draft and then showed it to the King. "I think this is a solid treaty" Karin said to Jonas.

"It seems King David that we have something that becomes the initial treaty of Hassfurt. We are thrilled with the progress so far. So what happens next?" He asked David.

Queen Stasya had largely kept quiet once matters had turned to business, she had little interest in global diplomacy unless it had some immediate impact on her. She however was more about the entertaining that these matters required. "I think David will need his minions to neaten this up" She said holding up his handwritten note, "I mean in the centuries to come we don't want some historian looking back and think Morelanders in the early 21st Century wrote in Clysperis hieroglyphics" she teased. Truth be told the King's handwriting wasn't that bad but it did bring some more humour to what had been a rather formal few hours of negotiating and discussion.

"Well it will require being on something other than my notebook" David agreed. "We'll have the civil service make two copies, one in Morelandish and one in German, we'll have the media gather to get their publicity shots and then the deed is done. Perhaps three hours or so?" David knew his Press Secretary Malcolm Tucker would have briefed the media that it was likely a treaty would be signed and they'd be on standby to get the pictures for the front of tomorrows newspapers. "In the meantime if King Jonas wants to get a quick swordsmanship lesson in I can probably find Rhiannon's tutor as he still teaches her when we come here."

"Perhaps then, me and you can enjoy a drink on the lakeside while the boys play with swords?" With that Stasya extended a hand to Karin and the pair headed off to the courtyard where a car was waiting. Stasya did like the Rockhampton retreat and down by the lakeside was a lovely little restaurant that she'd forewarned about them perhaps coming. As the two Queen's arrived the owner, Stephen Bragg, appeared.

"Two Queens!" he said rather surprised as Stasya had only informed his staff she and a guest would be visiting. "I apologise Your Majesty" he bowed to Queen Karin of Hassfurt, "I'm thrilled you've come to our little place, please follow me." he lead them through what looked from the outside like a large wooden panelled boathouse where the lapping of the lakes waters came up a small pebble beach. "Queen Staysa" he pulled a chair out as one of his staff did the same for the Hassfurtian Queen. "We've a bottle of that Heryan 1953 you enjoyed the other day ready, unless you'd like something else."

"No that's great thank you Stephen, can we have some snacks too please." Stephen nodded and disappeared and within a minute his staff were busy setting things up for the Queen before his wine waiter appeared and showed them the bottle before pouring each a glass. "I'm pleased we've seen a deal made between neighbours. It makes the continent so much stronger doesn't it?" Stasya was interested in Karin, she was a beautiful women and clearly had a lot of power in her nation, they would be friends or at least Stasya had decieded they would. "I'm interested though" Stasya picked up a small cracker with some cheese on it. "Is it true you had to physically fight to become Queen?" Stasya couldn't imagine having to do such a thing and was sure if it had come down to violence rather than seduction she'd never have ended up a Queen.

Meanwhile up at the retreat the King and Jonas had ventured through several halls and rooms before finding Sir Charles Townshend. "King David" Sir Charles had spotted the King ascending the outdoor stairs that lead to the old guardroom of the Palace which now doubled up as a kind of armoury. The old man had his back to the door and was busy oiling a sword working a cloth carefully along its length. "Rhiannon's made some good progress this week. She's going to be rather handy as long as she keeps her temper under wraps." The man turned and spotted King Jonas, "Oh my apology" he bowed, "I didn't realise we had company. Sir Charles, its a pleasure to meet you King Jonas" Charles quickly wiped his hands on the cloth before extending a hand towards the Hassfurtian King. "Was there something I could do for you two gentleman?"

"Yes please" David still kind of felt like a young boy speaking to his tutor with Charles. "Jonas here is interested in learning some good old fashioned Swordsmanship and well it was either you or Rhiannon." David smiled.

"I'd be honoured, you have some time now?" Charles asked and David confirmed they did. "Very well." Charles went over to a locker on the wall and took out a bag laying it on the table and unzipping it. He removed two wooden swords, both similiar in design and weight to the swords used by Red Legion. They headed out into the courtyard and David sat himself on the wall. "Now Your Majesty" Charles began to explain as he handed one of the blades to Jonas. "East Moreland swordsmanship isn't just about the sword, its not fencing. Its not about some gentlemanly dance with blades. Its about stuff that worked on battlefields when surrounded by people wanting to kill you. The concept is simple, drop the other bloke before he drops you." Charles chuckled and began running Jonas through a series of lessons for about 30 minutes before a pair of skipping steps distracted them for a moment. Princess Rhiannon had heard the tell tale sound of practice swords colliding and had come to watch. Her father waved her over and had her come sit on the wall next to him as he placed an arm around her shoulder and told her what was happening.

"He's standing too square on" Rhiannon said rather loudly. "It makes you a bigger target."

"Indeed it does" Sir Charles was rather pleased with his young student. "This however Princess is more of a taster lesson to give King Jonas here a feel for our ways. Hopefully if he's interested you can get someone from our embassy to teach you more of the proper techniques. Or I think we could just let you take Rhiannon with you." Charles returned to the session for another 20 minutes or so before exchanging hand-shakes with Jonas. "I hope to see your progress one day." Charles said.

"Here you go" A cheery little voice appeared with a little tray with orange juice. Rhiannon was stood there. "I think you could be really really good." Rhiannon gave her critique. "You should come to Ostlake and make a sword with us. I'm going to make one when I turn 11 in 4 years time." She said proudly.

"Thank you Charles" David helped put the swords away while Jonas refreshed himself. The pair had a bit of time to kill relaxing overlooking the lake until the Queen's returned and it was time to sign the Treaty.

As was expected the ceremony would take place in the courtyard with the media assembled at the foot of the steps that lead into the Castle's main entrance. A table had been set up, half with the East Moreland flag and half with the Hassfurt, it was however hard to work out where one began and the other ended as they sharped a colour palette. A pair of Red Legionnaires stood on each step one on the left and one on the right their polished breastplate glistening in the sunlight. At the appointed time King David's Head of Royal Household Quinn Germaine appeared and spoke , "Ladies and Gentleman, the monarchs are about to arrive if we can make sure to form an orderly line for photos, they've agreed to give you all the time you need." With that King David and Queen Karin appeared and took their seats followed almost immediatley by Queen Stasya and King Jonas. The four waited for the flash of cameras to finish before David stood and addressed the crowd.

"East Moreland has tried since I became King to ensure we are good neighbours with everyone on our continent. It was for that reason I tried to form the Alba Karinya Organisation which has had what I'll optimistically call mixed success. One piece of the jigsaw for those continent wide relationships existed and that was Hassfurt. Today I am exceptionally pleased and excited to announce that East Moreland and Hassfurt have agreed a treaty which will form a foundation as solid as this castle for us to build upon. This document is not where I hope the friendship between our nations end but is in fact just the beginning and I hope as our two people's get to experience and understand each others ways we can add to this and make Alba Karinya even stronger. Our continents name translates as the "White Peaceful Home" a name taken from the cliffs that ring our continent and even the snow that tops our highest peaks, we are a continent that compared to others has known little bloodshed between its residents and this treaty means this peaceful home becomes a more friendly and hopefully prosperous one." With that the King took the pen that his wife offered him and signed his name to the treaty. He then was unsure which of the Hassfurtians would sign first but seeing as he was sat next to Queen Karin and they do say "Ladies First" he offered the pen to her.

Karin had mixed thought on Stasya. If she had been from Hassfurt she wouldn't have stood a chance to be Queen for several reasons. The first was that despite being beautiful it was clear she was not that blessed for the Gods as her dark hair betrayed. The second was she seemed rather more prone to enjoy softer things in life. That was not to say Karin did not enjoy the lifestyle of a Queen but she was not just Queen she was also Champion of the Goddess Sandraudiga and that meant she was a warrior in her soul. In some respect she would have liked to have seen the swordsman lesson at the retreat but she understood that diplomacy would maybe mean having to be more feminine all the while. In one way Karin had hoped that the King's sister Freya had attended as her blonde hair and blue eyes meant she was a beloved of the Goddess although clearly destined now to suffer in her next life having strayed from the path of Sandraudiga. She was though a warrior and Karin heard a good one. The treaty though means there would be other meetings and more chance. "A lovely view" Karin said to Stasya as they enjoyed their drink. "In order to become a King or Queen of Hassfurt you must show two things. First be blessed by the Gods this is simply tested by sight, the hair, the eyes, are you pleasing to the monarch's eye. Then you must be be able to overcome threats to the throne, if the Gods have moved their blessing from a monarch to someone stronger that must be tested. So yes we fight for the throne. I fought  Queen Anna in 2015 because she appeared weak. She was as I broke her arm showing the Gods favor me. It is my duty to ensure those blessed to be created in the body of the royals are cared for and that I am able to defend the Gods when needed. I train several times a week in boxing, kickboxing, I have learn a little of other martial arts. Every Hassfurtian tries to stay strong mentally, physically and spiritually. It is this idea that made us think East Moreland would be good to begin our diplomacy. You're adopted home have a strong sense of military duty, their concept of honour through swords and their Code of Camely is impressive. I suspect in 2025 I will be expected to fight once more and if Sandraudiga believes I am still fit to rule she will bless me with winning." The pair sat enjoying the rest of their afternoon.

Jonas did not think he would be having a lesson now but was rather pleased. It was a nice way to spend some time. He had many experiences of martial arts as a result of running a business which managed martial arts schools across Hassfurt, perhaps today he could add some new classes to his empire. He took off his jacket and tie in the courtyard and rolled his sleeve up. The sword may be wood but was heavy compared to what he imagined and he found the practice good exercise and that in itself was good. He did not notice the Princess arrive and smiled at her analysing of his technique. "I shall take Your Highness expert advice" he turned his body and carried on and despite having some whacks from his tutor found the day enjoyable. He liked the knowledge that Princesses of Moreland learned this kind of skill, he hoped when he had children they would take to things like fighting in a keen way too. As the Princess brought refreshment "Thank you Princess" he said accepting the juice. "Maybe in four years time you can teach me the way to make a sword then. Although I hope you will come and visit us in Hassfurt long before then." He had heard much of the bond between David and Rhiannon and she seem a confident child. One day she would be Queen and Hassfurt would deal with her and he hope to make a good impression. "We have our own way of fighting skills in Hassfurt, perhaps when you visit we can show you." He bid her farewell as he and David refreshed for the meeting with the press.

As they stepped out into the courtyard with the press Karin and Jonas made sure to be smiling. Karin knew the people at home would be trying to discover whether their new pair of monarchs were becoming fond of each other and a failure for this to happen would be seen as a bad omen for the Diarchy. For that reason she would prefer to have walked out with Jonas but traditional way of doing business would mean it should be this way. She sat next to David and waited for the King to make his speech . As arranged between the two of them before hand Karin and Jonas stood and moved to stand in front of the table with holding hands. It was also agreed that Jonas would speak first. "I would like to quickly address the people of East Moreland, we would like to thank them for their hospitality. Yesterday we visited your battle site of Greenflowers. We felt it important to show our respect to the warriors who allowed us to have neighbours such as you. Neighbours that we should have dealed with many years, if not centuries ago. We are now honored to put on paper something to make us true friends." He stepped aside to allow Karin to speak.

"Today I and Jonas sign the first treaty with another nation in the history of Hassfurt. We are excited to see the friendship have a chance to grow and hope this pleasant meeting will repeat with leaders across Mundus. I hope that Karinya will become even more Karinya as our friendship grows and grows." The pair crossed to stand back behind the desk and each took a pen, Karin signing one copy at the same time Jonas signed the other, they then swap before Karin handed the pen she had been passed by David back to him. "Thank you for this opportunity." Karin said as she kissed David on both cheeks as the media snapped away.
