Revolution Day
« on: September 10, 2017, 01:05:36 AM »

State Ministry of Cascadia

Revolution Day

Leaders of the World,

It has been one hundred and seven years since we declared our independence from Orania on September 9th, 1910. As with every year, we hold independence celebrations including fireworks, a military parade, and a gala. However, for the first time as a signal of renewed international cooperation, we are inviting international delegations to attend. A small contingent from attending nations may be in the parade as well.

We look forward to seeing you,
Sidney Stewart
Secretary of State

We would be delighted to have a representative of our nation attend the celebration you are hosting. As such we are sending our sister Princess Alana and her fiance Duke Thikon. We hope your nation has a pleasant celebration and we wish you luck for the future.

May Sessifet Bless You

HERRENBUCHT: MINISTRY OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS

To our dear friends in Cascadia,

I will wholeheartedly attend your ceremony. We will also be sending a contingent to take part at the parade, if we are able to spare one, which might be a problem considering the fact that we are at the moment planning festivities similiar to your own.

Harbordale International Airport, the largest airport in the nation by far, features six runways and three terminals. The private terminal had been cloed off entirely for use by foreign dignitaries, the terminal itself a lavish lounge with numerous spaces, a bar, and a waiting area for the coming and going convoys throughout the day to shuttle dignitaries to the city proper. Upon landing, dignataries departed directly into the terminal where they were greeted with the ceremonious cordiality affiliated to most of these diplomatic visits; a Marine band playing the dignataries' nations national anthem, several diplomatic officers to guide them and plenty of security.

Upon further evaluation the clockwork of the busy terminal became evident; with the coming and going of diplomatic cars and police escorts every fifteen to twenty minutes to shuttle various figures to the Harbordale city center where the parade would be taking place. Things seemed to be going smoothly, at least, for now.

Archbishop Byron Stark, Apostolic Nuncio to Cascadia - Archbishop Stark was already waiting in the city centre of Harbourdale for the upcoming Revolution Day, which is supposed to signify the day when the Cascadians finally were free from their colonial overlord and thus the shackles were no more, and the other dignitaries who would be joined together. Cascadia was of great importance to the Ecclesiastical State, one of the few nations where Christianity still has a stron foundation, it was paramount for the Holy Father to maintain healthy relations as a way to unite the Churches and bring forth meaningful dialogue. The rivalry with Protestant and Orthodox churches was long gone, thanks to the essential Vatican II reforms in the 1960s that was supposed to renew the Church doctrine, philosophy and such.

Archbishop Stark closed his eyes and prayed for a small while; for himself, the others attending and the nation itself, for good fortunes and security.

Princess Alana was rather excited, she wasn't due back at school for two weeks and she had the chance to spend time away with her future husband Duke Thikon. They were still getting to know each other and with Alana's final exams on the horizon there wouldn't be much chance of spending anytime together for a while. Things had changed a lot in the almost year they'd been engaged, an engagement arranged by the Conclave just like her elder sisters. Alana admired Thikon greatly, he was older by six years, handsome and seemed so worldly wise, but compared to her a year ago that wouldn't have been hard, now however she'd lived in three countries and kind of spoke three languages. When the pair had first meet he'd seemed rather cold, Alana put that down now to the fact that Thikon could well have been married to the Queen, but instead got what many would consider "runner up" with a Princess. That however had changed the more he'd got to know her, know Thikon still felt there was uncomfortable moments, after all she was 17 and he was 23 and at times she seemed still rather immature. However they had discovered a mutual love of horses and now every Saturday they could they'd been out riding on the beaches of Gaia, Alana was sure she'd have more luck in her marriage, which she couldn't wait for, than her sister seemed to be having.

Alana was curled up on the private planes sofa next to Thikon, her feet resting in his lap as he watched some film he'd started two hours earlier, it was almost as though timed to perfection as the end credits rolled just as the captain announced they were landing. He gently tickled Alana's feet until she woke up with a fright causing him to laugh. "Come on sleepy head, shoes on and strap in we're landing" he gently placed her feet on the ground and put his jacket on before fastening his belt. Alana joined him in the seat opposite her shoes now slipped on. The pair waited for the aircraft to come to a stop and Alana then began fussing about quickly changing her outfit, unlike her sister's traditional blue and gold dress she would be expected to wear red and silver and duly donned a suitable dress that swept the floor, she hadn't quiet yet mastered her sisters elegant gliding walk but she looked more grown up now. The pair made their way oustide and headed to the city centre.

Siegismund von Thaller stood in front of the mirror, changing clothes. "I don't remember, when was the last time I wore this uniform darling?"

"Probably before you were appointed diplomat. Why does the Duke want you to wear it for this event?" asked his wife Katharina

"He wants me to show that we identify with our troops that we sent here for the parade. It's this typical Herrenbuchtian attitude. We glorify our military even though parades like this one are the only opportunities to use it. It almost seems like the Duke wants to build up a stereotype around our nation."

"I guess he wants people to remember us. This is one way to do so." Katharina said pointing at the uniform jacket, Siegismund had just put on

Siegismund was now fully suited, only one part  missing. He looked down on the fur beret in his hand, decorated with the golden insignia of the Herrenbucht Army on it. "Thats not my original one. That's not even beaver fur. They gave me one of these imported berets!" Siegismund realized angrily

"It looks great Siggy." Katharina answered trying to soothe her husband. "Your original one was eaten away by moths when I found it, so I had to order a new one. Now put it on we are landing!"
The private jet landed smoothly on the airport's asphalt. Siegismund excited the airplane with a firm step and a angry look on his face. His wife accompanied him giggling.

High Commissioner Ibrahim Hussein Al-Madhavi and his entourage arrived at Harbordale International  amidst the diplomatic fray and were ferried post-haste to the city centre to watch the parade. The High Commissioner, a resolute individual, had little time for the beautiful mountain landscape that had unfurled outside his plane window on the way to Harbordale, and instead busied himself in documentation about Cascadia, specifically, it's ongoing heroin problem.

Hailing from the source country of a majority of the world's heroin, despite government efforts, Ibrahim felt uniquely placed to work with the Cascadians in their mutual interest, and planned to broach the subject.

Opportunities to network with the other dignitaries present were also to be noted. In the end, the Revolution Day march was just about the only thing Ibrahim cared nothing for, he mused, as their car pulled into the city centre...
