Kaitaine Meets Artyomov
« on: October 16, 2017, 10:22:23 PM »
President Stephen McPherson was rather looking forward to the visit, since the collapse of the USR there had been few oppurtunities for other nations to visit, after all being one of the few Communist nations in the world meant coming by friends was rather difficult. The airport at Arakeen was decked out ready to recieve their guests, flags of both nations fluttered in the early morning breeze and a gathering of bandsmen kept tuning their instruments. Coming from a Celtic background the nation still kept pipes and drums and had been practicing their guests national anthem, it sounded very different to the version they'd heard from recordings but the pipes were part of their culture and so here they were.

President McPherson was stood in a simple black suit jacket and kilt, which considering the great heat of Kaitaine was a blessing, the other men in his entourage were similary dressed and busied themselves with their tablet computers as the business of government didn't stop. Beside McPherson stood his young protege Vadik Pasternak, he alone among the men didn't wear a kilt and the only addition of colour to any of the jackets was a silver and pale blue badge bearing the emblem of his old Paratrooper Regiment. The younger man shifted uneasily it was his first experience of diplomacy and he knew he had much to learn if he was to stay in his Presidents good graces.

The visitors aircraft touched down and approached the landing gate and the band began playing without an order so well rehearsed where they. McPherson hoped the visitors recognised their own tune, to his ears it sounded OK but you could never tell. He waited patiently next to Vadik as they waited for their guests to exit their aircraft.

Artyom walked down the stairs of the plane, listening To the melody being performed. He wore his bomber jacket, jeans and brown shirt. He snapped his glasses on as soon as he stepped out of the plane when he was approached by the sun, exploding in his eyes. He got down and shook both Vadik and McPherson's hands. He had his bag and Bass strapped to his back but moved effortlessly. Out of the plane came 2 other comrades. Yegor and Dmitry wore informal clothes similar to Artyom. They were his bandmates. Yegor played Electric Guitar and Dmitry played the drums. The also exchanged greetings with the two other communists. They walked away from the plane. Artyom complimented the music played by the band.

Artyom Asked if during his trip, his band Band could play at a venue. He was answered with an unconfirmed response.

Artyom: So this nation of yours seems pretty nice, comrade! Give me a run-down on what the is to do here...

Pasternak and McPherson gave each other knowing sideways glances, this wasn't quiet what they'd been expecting but they supposed the best course of action was to just try and go along, after all it was the first overseas visit in as long as anyone could remember. The appearence seemed highly casual, something that to McPherson meant you didn't wear a tie, so jeans and a guitar where something he really would struggle to get his head around. "Welcome to Kaitaine" he said rather unsure what else to say in this situation, "I'm sure we could find somewhere, there are plenty of Workers Clubs around the city that have regular musical evenings" he wasn't even sure that was true but he suspected if he placed a call to a factory somewhere and promised them a case of whiskey and a keg of beer they'd drum up a crowd even if they didn't enjoy the music, failing that he'd just order some members of the KDF to attend.

"As for what to do in Arakeen" Pasternak took over, he was significantly younger than McPherson so probably more likely to know what the fun stuff was, "We're a nation that enjoys our folk music, dancing, a good meal and a good whiskey, you'll find Arakeen full of nice little restaurants and bars. We also have a fine football team based here, the squad is drawn from the Army and did damn well in the recent Mundus Champions League tournament, we can probably get some tickets for them if that was your thing. At weekends people tend to head to the beach, surf, have BBQ's and generally like to unwind with family. Our nations Celtic heritage means that connection to your extended family is very very important. A lot of the workers unions here have their own sports clubs and a whole variety of games take place, I for one intend tomorrow to watch my former Soldiers Union play the Metal Workers Union at Volleyball." he was hopeful of a victory as his younger brother was coaching the Soldiers Union, they'd served together in the Parachute Regiment until Vadik had damaged his knees.

A convoy of armoured vehicles and a limo arrived and the group made themselves comfortable in the limo. "Now I know your people like your vodka but that isn't really something we drink often, we much prefer this" he produced a small barrel, about the size of a rugby ball, "it's a locally made whiskey, made to an individual recipe and been stored for 40 years, perhaps on some special occasion you can share it with your family" he handed it to Artyom, "Now lets try a drop of this" he held up another bottle, less extravagent but still a lovely golden colour.

"If you're not used to whiskey you may wish a little orange zest with it" Pasternak produced a fresh orange and a small file specially for the job.

"Now as a word of warning while you are here please do not wander off from the escorts, its not that they are here to watch you as a trust issue, let me explain" McPherson folded his jacket onto the chair beside him. "In our founders wisdom we sought to get rid of everything that stopped our nation unifying, the old Celtic clan structure went, everyone was given equality, no private business ownership, things like that you know. But the biggest issue was the banning of religion, you see a .....cult....existed in Kaitaine known as the Bene Gesserit, a weird womans cult of death, or some nonsense we refer to them as witches, or something that sounds very similar" he chuckled and Vilik. "They have a habit of blowing stuff up, but we're used to their pathetic attempts, but as someone new to the situation here it is best to remain with either one of us, or any member of our Kaitaine Guards Beureu" McPherson pointed outside to where on a motorcycle a soldier dressed all in black rode alongside them, a distintice red flash on his right shoulder. "They are our security force tasked with rooting out these delinquents, they've killed a great number in the last year all over Mundus." he was rather proud of that.

"Anyway enough of us, we wish to know your nation. What news do you have of your home?"

Artyom apologies for his lack of formality due to him being sent at the last minute but he liked to treat visits as holidays. Artyomov was strict on many things but dress code was not very serious. He felt somewhat embarrassed but completely comfortable.

When the Whiskey was passed to him he said thank you and returned the favour by giving citrus infused vodka to the two men. it was in a glass bottle, but the bottle had engraved art on it. It an image of the worker, holding a hammer and sickle whilst having his rifle slung over his shoulder. He shared a bit of the substance he was given with Yegor and Dmitry. The actually quite liked it, but not as much as their national drink.

"Heh, cults ehh? I deal with them a lot. They have become more like terrorists to us and are purged from the land with force. I like to say Shoot first think never when it comes to those bastards. A spetsnaz operative like me deals with the weirdest shit at times... And if I get lost don't worry, I do not go anywhere without my Kalashnikov." He revealed the butt of it from his bag. "is it allowed here? I would like to see the volleyball tomorrow aswell. I love it"

"Artyomov is cold as hell and pretty good. There have been some "slip ups" like the Siege that ended our previous dictator's life BUT got me to first lieutenant and my best friend into dictator! Recently Chernya has been angry with us because we cut the business deal for Clothing And Accessories stores that were a specific brand and led to an economic situation to them. We have been at war with those cu-" Dmitry cut him off before he swore
. "Scum for around 5 years now. They have tried to get to the ghost city of Chernoberg for it's stockpile of Weapons. After the nuclear explosion, it had been empty for 30 odd years but that is their base, but not for long. You mind if I smoke or is it too unventilated in here?" Artyom was tapping the arm rest subtly. Caused by his smoking. He hated it. "And tell me how I can help your nation"

"There are no need for apologise" McPherson waved away the words with a casual gesture, "If we are to be friends then we must get used to each others cultures, while we may share love for Communism we probably have many more differences." By now they had made their way through the Arakeen traffic and arrived at People's Plaza a network of modern buildings that served as the various headquarters and offices for the day to day business of governing. "We generally don't have people carrying guns, unless it is the Kitaine Guards Bereau, Army or local Police, however as you're travelling with the KGB I am sure they can make an exception." A suited musclar man opened the door for them leading them inside the nearest of the buildings and the one McPherson called home, he had turned the offices opposite his own into a Penthouse meaning he didn't often have to leave the building yet alone the capital. They had entered the office now, it was on the top floor and gave a panoramic view of the city of Arakeen, a combination of historic buildings, commercial ports and new structures made for an interesting mix. Two black uniformed soldiers with assault rifles patrolled the veranda outside enjoying the cool air of the buildings roof on this warm day.

As McPherson took his seat behind the desk he slid his guest an ashtray, "I've been trying to quit" he explained , "Doctors say my lungs aren't what they used to be, although I suspect the damage is already done."

Pasternak had waited for the guests to sit before carrying over an extra chair from the office lounge area he sat at 90 degrees to the President and the visitors. "You asked how you can help our nation. At present I'd say we have little we need help with, maybe an extra outlet for some of our goods, which presents you with an oppurtunity. I am sure our two nations each have things the other would like, our climates being different for example we probably grow different food stuffs, as such we'd like to see if we can't conclude some kind of trade deal. You see I think by friendship we can help each other, so perhaps establishing embassies would be nice. We even have an office in the building opposite sat empty for just such circumstances. However if there is anything your nation needs help with then perhaps you could let us know."

Artyom puffed his cigarette. He then put it in the ashtray and removed his bag from his back. He drew the Kalash and placed it on the table. He notified the guards to take it away for safety. They did so. Artyom's friends were told kindly by Artyom to leave the room for some "private business". As they left, he took a short while to think about what he should say.

"So, we grow a lot of wheat and other grains, along with red and white meats. We import 80% of our fruits and vegetables and a lot of the cars we get are also imported. We mainly export weapons and other military shit and energy like coal and petroleum. Just tell me what you do and we WILL set something up. Another thing is that we have to tell you something. Ever since we went into "hibernation" we have left people out in major nations such as ES, Sutherland and yours, collecting data. Hey, do not worry, everyone has men all around Mundus. Plus, we have not got anything from you yet because our man was uncontactable. After this, I am going to "release" him. So, a change of topic.... What is the news around Arakeen and Mundus?"

McPherson had to laugh, after all they'd been caught out a few months ago with their sleeper agents spread all across Mundus all thanks to those Truthsayer bitches leaking the information they'd purchased from some hackers. Not that it mattered much now, those people had either been arrested or had fled returning to Kaitaine. The Kaitaine Guards Beureu (KGB) had already begun the process of establishing a new network but that could take years. "In terms of our trade we're rather a more sunnier climate than you, so our fruits and vegetables can fulfil your needs rather easily. We also have a rather vibrant industry in glass, dyes and farming machinary. I think we could complement each other rather nicely. What I propose is that we make each other priority trading partners. What I mean is that we ensure our two nations do not charge each other more than any other nation, ensuring we both get what we need as cheaply as possible. I mean with some further talks I'm sure deals where we exchange tonnes of wheat for tonnes of vegetables can eventually be worked out." McPherson was hopeful.

"As for Arakeen the only big news is preparations for the upcoming Freedom Day Parade, a day we celebrate the forces of neighbouring Rodinha bringing their invention of Communism to us many years ago." McPherson always enjoyed that day, a chance to spend it with the people and pay his respects to former members of his unit who had died since he had left them. "Around Mundus we just see issues with the Utmen trying to gain independence from Lakhozvia, but we'll let them work that out for themselves as its none of our business. I suppose that is the biggest news."

There was a knock on the door and in came McPherson's secretary entered carrying a variety of documents that she gave to the President. One of them was a document he'd been waiting for. She handed them over, took the pile of signed decrees from his tray and walked back out. "We took the liberty of drafting this, just in case." McPherson handed the document over.

Quote

With the nations of Kaitaine and Artyomov sharing a common ideology and wishing to commit themselves to a spirit of friendship the two nations agree to abide by the terms of the following treaty.

1. The two nations shall maintain active embassies between each other. The Ambassador shall present himself before the Head of State once given 24 hours written notice.

2. The two nations shall agree to solve any disputes between themselves peacefully seeking third party arbitration when neccessary.

3. The two nations agree a trade deal, the terms of which are that.

a) They shall make each other Priority Trading Partners meaning they shall seek to purchase goods from each other ahead of other nations.
b) They shall ensure prices for trades between each other are lower than between other nations.
c) Taxes on vessels using each others ports shall be waived.

4. The two nations agree to an annual officer exchange where twenty junior offices shall spend time serving with the other nations military. During this exchange the officers may not be sent into combat without their home nations permission.

5. The two nations agree extradite wanted criminals between them once a formal written application is produced.

6. Travel between the two nations shall be visa free as long as local laws regarding freedom of travel are followed.

7. The two nations agree an annual meeting between Heads of State taking place in each nation alternatively.

8. The two nations shall not join any alliance or grouping that stands against the principles of this treaty or is aimed at undermining the other.

"Well what do you think, this is after all just a starting point. As our two nations get better acquainted more can be added. I'm interested in any suggestions you have."

"Thank You, comrade. I will send it to Maxim, who is "busy" at the moment"
Artyom called his friends into the room and spoke in Artyinian. He discussed what they had in mind for the time they were here for. Yegor said
"Lets go play a show randomly" Dmitry Agreed. Artyom did so. He flicked his sunglasses on

"So, once I talk to Maxim about this I will communicate with you to set up a trade deal. Any last things to discuss?"
