Memorial Day 2017
« on: October 31, 2017, 01:15:12 AM »

To the nations of Mundus,

The eleventh of November is a date of great significance to many nations on Mundus, for it is the day that the Great War officially ended, the day the guns fell silent. Many people of many different cultures and creeds, many different people from many different nations gave their lives in that thirty two year period. Every year we honor them for their deeds and we also pay tribute to the fallen in more recent conflicts. Every year on the eleventh of November Achkaerin marks Memorial Day, it concludes with the festival of remembrance in the Royal Theatre, Valtheim. This year marks many anniversaries of that conflict period so I extend this invitation to the nations of Mundus to join us in our act of remembrance that evening. I hope to see many friends there.

Signed

Emperor Peter Azurewind

OOC: I do sure hope that this isn't closed until the 11th or something similar, terribly sorry for the post if it is!

Quote

Official Response from The Great House of Altberg
To: H.R.H Emperor Peter Azurewind of Achkaerin

My immediate ancestors, and indeed, I as well, have a long history of barring ourselves from attending such events. This silence we owe to our shameful defeat in the Great War, brought by no small margin in part by some of the allied powers which will be attending this remembrance festival. Weremark, indeed, has never recovered, and one could argue that much of our subsequent internal conflict in the twentieth and twenty-first centuries directly arises from our near-total ruin in the years following the Great War.

Your mind, perhaps, may wonder as to why I reply back this year, of all years, when, in some respects, tensions may seem unusually elevated in our corner of Mundus, between my esteemed nation's own domestic problems and our southerly neighbor's warmongering. And the answer is simple, but true. I, by no means, wish to assign to myself a metonymy of my Kingdom, but Weremark has a long memory. Perhaps too long, for we have learned little from the lessons of the Great War. The events of fifteen years ago, of twenty years ago, prove as much in terms of my nation. Yours has undoubtedly had better luck. Now, however, is a different time. The Werman people will not forget the strife of the past if I do not make them forget the strife of the past, and that is my exact objective at the moment.

Thus will I be coming myself; with me will be my son, Magnus, his beautiful wife, Mallorie of Heimar, and my good friend, Grand Duke Johannes Jensen of Jylmark, as well as two of my subjugant lords, and men I would trust with my life: Jarl Janus Wulfaric of Falholm and Konrad Hjalmaric, Baron of Árheimar. Not too early shall our arrival be, and bring with us we will not any of the following: weapons, obviously; additional bodyguards or men-at-arms; gifts. Some may call me heathen for not bringing with myself some sort of sacrifice to the gods, but that is a term I have begun to take endearingly, regardless of its connotations. Gifts are for the living, and the living have their gift.

Forgive me if it appears that I have tried to make a show of myself in this letter, but what's to be a monarch, and one inexperienced at internationalism at that, if not to leave a little room on the letter for some embellishment?

I hope to finally make your acquaintance in person, Emperor.

Bles'd are those who die in rain
For from the ground a flower gains,

King of Weremark

OOC- Ok start turning up bear in mind my intent is to post the Festival of Remembrance as it were on the 11th after which there will be a reception of sorts where pretty much every Achkaerinese Royal will be available to talk.

Memorial Day was always a big thing in Achkaerin, the act of remembering all those who'd given their lives across the many theatres of the Great War was something passed from generation to generation with the words Never Again attached. At the Royal Auditorium a welcoming committee was in full swing headed up by Princess Esme Azurewind and the Royal Family Chief of Staff Kumiko Arkwright, the main royals in the family were backstage getting ready for their roles in the occasion or in the case of the Emperor and his fiancee just down the road at the Temple of Jekar, others were taking their seats in the Royal Box, the international guests would be situated in the Noble Box's - each of the great Houses had a Box so it had been figured that this was the easiest way to accommodate everyone.

"Always a great occasion." Kumiko said as she came to stand alongside Esme
"Yep." Esme said, pinning the Poppy onto her dress "Good news is that Simon just got back."
"So that just leaves Sakura who should be touching down any minute." Kumiko said "And international guests arriving any minute."
"So let's see who turns up." Esme said, it had already been a busy day for the Royal Family with the traditional laying of wreaths, silences and now this the traditional finale to a great day.

One of the five High Umam's of Ahkabnil, the Seer of Ebb, walked in with his entourage of followers, aided by two young men who held his arms, helping him up a few steps. He smiled gracefully for the camera's, with a few waves here and there, but overall remaining modest in a hurry to get into the auditorium. Hakwechi, as he was known in his true name, had fought in the war when he was a mere 15 years old, lying about his age and being forced into service for it. He had stories for ages, as to why he did it and left the temple, and what he had learned from the long fought war, but he didn't dare boast the events or what he ever saw. The Battle of Chanal still burned, suppressed, but he adored the progress the city had made since then. Today, was the apex spiritual guide for the nation, a symbol, one that had to present at this event. The Revered Speaker very well served in the war, but he hardly lavished in the service.

Alongside the High Umam Seer was a mere common man, wheeled along by helpers. His name was Yantek, old and crippled, stoic and tired in his mannerism. He was a notable veteran in the country, part of the famous mountain troops of Ahkabnil known as the 'Oqiilchich' who were known for their ferocity. He alone defended a single position for  days from waves of Ardians with a desperate assortment of weapons at his disposal. The Temple of Ohkan even published a book about him, one of the more well-known biographies of the war and the source of an up-incoming TV miniseries about the Oqiilchich. Tantek wore his old uniform, elaborately decorated with a few flowers and condor feathers, with an assortment of beads. He didn't have his left arm, but wore the patch of the Oqiilchich proudly on that sleeve, a stylized skull, representing death, an aspect of life Ahkabnilians revered greatly.

"Hello." the Seer of Ebb greeted the welcoming party, a translator standing near. "It is a great honor Princess, I am one of the five High Umam's of the Temple of Oqan, the Seer of Ebb, as you may know but more importantly this is Captain Yantek, veteran of the Oqiilchich troops. He his a highly decorated man, known for the holding off wave attacks by himself. He his highly regarded as a principle warrior in our country." he gestured. Yantek remained humble, bowing his head ever so slightly with the tired momentum of age.

His holiness Pope Peter II couldn't miss this opportunity to show to the rest of Mundus that ES and the Church truly cared and took care of its senior citizens, especially those who're old war veterans, as well as veterans in general, it was important not to ever forget about them as their dedication and sacrifices made for their country was of immense value to the current and future generations; he was aiding an ancient man who was in the very grand age of 111 yrs old, helping him up a few steps, flanked by his elderly wife who was in her 90s also giving aid. Arthur Lemaitre was his name, who is the oldest verified surviving ES war veteran and one of the oldest living men in ES too. A veteran of latter part of the Great War he served with the Ecclesiastical Army of Christ, as an engineer. In 2013 he was honored by Pope Benedict XVI. "I thank you Holy Father for allowing me and wife to participate in such an honorable event to remember those who fought and died in tragic wars, great opportunity to meet my fellow brothers and sisters in arms from the creed of nations, colors and cultures" *cough*.

At the same time, King Oscar III finally arrived from Balticum and with him was also an ancient Baltic War veteran, Rainer Steinberger, 112 yrs old, who worked as an aircraft and board mechanic. During the latter part of the Great War, he did his military service and was taken into Ardian captivity, from which he was released in 1947. Oscar III had an immense respect for veterans in general, thanks to the influences of his grandmother and father who deepl advocated for their improved post-war lives in general. "I may never know when my time's soon up, but alas one great event honoring all of us veterans, that's something that can't be missed at all, thank you your most gracious majesty."

Before meeting their hosts, the two groups chatted with each other, especially the two veterans who talked about what their "secrets" were for achieving such a long life. "I have always lived and eaten well. No diet. Always butter, no margarine. I have not touched a cigarette all my life and drank alcohol just to party, and you?" The Baltic veteran asked in which his ES comrade responded, "Smoking cigars, drinking whiskey-stiffened coffee, eating buckets of ice cream and God", before the two laughed alltogether, it seems that their two different life styles didn't really settle the old and ancient question as to how one could achieve their age.

The two groups then proceeded inside, greeting their hosts, Princess Esme Azurewind and the Royal Family Chief of Staff Kumiko Arkwright.

Esme took a deep breath as the High Umam approached she smiled
"It is indeed a pleasure to welcome you all to Achkaerin on this most special of days" Esme said she glanced over her shoulder and almost instantly Steven Ayanami, dressed in his military uniform appeared at her shoulder, he respectfully bowed to the High Uman as the translator interpreted for Esme "This is Lord Steven Ayanami, we've sat you in the Ayanami's box for the event, if you have any questions please ask him and he'll be happy to answer. Afterwards there will be a socializing opportunity."
"If you would like to follow me." Steven said respectfully leading the Ahkabnilian delegation up some stairs to the circle level where the box's were located.

Next up was the ES and Balticum group. Esme once more waited for a few seconds
"Your Holiness, Your Majesty, lady and gentlemen welcome to Achkaerin." Esme said as Kumiko ushered out two more people "We've arranged for people to accompany you throughout the evening and to answer any questions you may have, there is a reception afterwards. King Oscar may I introduce Duke Lawrence Alleine He will be your escort for the night."
"An honor Your Majesty." Lawrence said "Equally an honor Mr Steinberger. If you would follow me please." he led the Balticum guests up the stairs.

"Your Holiness for you and Mr and Mrs Lemaitre we have here someone I'm sure needs no introduction in terms of your Holiness Kathryn Deed she's our Minister of Science and Technology and she asked to be your escort once we knew you were coming." Esme said.
"Welcome to Achkaerin." Kathryn said to the ES group "If you would like to come with me." she led them up the stairs.

Outside Esme looked at her watch and down the road towards the Temple of Jekar that sat down there, it wasn't anything untoward it was just tradition that the Cultist members of the Achkaerinese Armed Forces that were going to be on parade that night gathered in worship beforehand and that the Emperor joined them afterwards, this was the same for those of other faiths as well as each group was accommodated in their Church's and Temples and other religious buildings around the city, it was however all in the timetabling to allow Peter to get to each one hence why the Cultist service was running close to time for the actual festival, but they always put that one last because it was literally a matter of thirty metres down the street. There were signs of movement as the gathering there ended.

"Almost time." Kumiko said
"Yep." Esme said

The next delegation to arrive were the Wermans. First through was King Dagmund, clutching a studded golden sheath, followed in by his son, Magnus, and his wife, Mallorie, who had donned a black dress. Jarl Janus Wulfaric entered next, discussing something with the King's most trusted advisor and noted Werman democrat, Duke Johannes Jensen fan Hailien of Jylmark. The last man through was Konrad Hjalmaric, a rather inoffensive-looking man who appeared to have been keeping to himself. Immediately apparent was that nearly the whole delegation had eschewed their typical white-tie appearance for something magnitudes more formal; that of the official monarchic uniform last worn by King Dagmund's grandfather Luic I during the Great War, typically only worn by the King when sitting on the throne these days. Of the whole delegation, only Jensen had worn something more along the lines of the rest of the visitors, opting for traditional white tie with a ceremonial sash.

There must have been some layer of irony to it, the sorest losers of the Great War coming to their first memorial day celebration with perhaps the biggest pomp. Weremark had no surviving veterans, owing largely to the abysmal state of medical care in the nation until the 1970s, and so with the delegation arrived nobody else. King Dagmund had no doubts that this could very well have the potential of being seen as a strange gesture or lack thereof, but in his old age, he had insisted. They were here for remembrance, he had told them, not for the flaunting of their oldest and strongest.

Through the crowd of other dignitaries, the King spotted the one who he'd been informed was to lead the welcoming party, the Emperor's sister, Esme Azurewind. With a nod of the head from the King, the Werman delegation gravitated towards her, everyone's stray eyes going to the stairs where other delegations seemed to have been going after the initial meeting. Immediately apparent on the King's gaze was the familiar silhouette of Pope Peter II, a man he had very much taken an interest in upon his ascent. That would have to wait. He smiled at the Azurewind in front of him. "And you must be the lovely Esme Azurewind. Your Highness." he nodded his head but did not bow. "I am King Dagmund of Weremark, and this is my delegation. I assume you've received my letter?" he proceeded to introduce them each by name, prompting slight smiles of various genuineness from the members of the party. Particularly apparent was Jensen, who had grinned wide.

MESSAGE FROM EAST MORELAND TO THE ARMED FORCES OF ACHKAERIN

To the Men and Women of the Imperial Armed Forces.

I am regretful that this year my many duties have meant I am unable to attend this event. I therefore believed that it was important for me to take the time to communicate my nations best wishes to members of Achkaerin's military both past and present. Our nations military forces have stood side by side on many occasions and I know that many Morelanders will have mourned the deaths of Achkaerin comrades in arms, people they do not see as colleagues but as friends. Together our two nations have achieved much, often being the tip of the spear in difficult circumstances, never shirking our share of responsibility to the international community. I know in the years ahead there will no doubt be times when our forces once more go towards danger together and I will be reassured seeing the Achkaerin flag flying once more alongside our own.

Today we will conduct prayers in the Temple of Jekar for our Achkaerin friends who failed to return home, we shall ask the Gods to watch over those they left behind and ask Helus to watch over the ones they have left behind. To those who went to war and returned injured I pray for their swift recovery and that a day comes once more when they can overcome the challenges their sacrifice has created for them, they have my thanks for the service they have performed.

May The Gods Watch Over You and Your Swords Stay Sheathed.

King David III of East Moreland.

"We did Your Majesty." Esme said, yet again Kumiko was seamlessly summoning the escort over "Welcome to Achkaerin, there is a reception after the festival. May I introduce Lady Emma Elsif she will be your escort for this evening well up to the reception at least and she'll answer any questions you may have."
"If you and your delegation would follow me Your Majesty we can get to our seats." Emma said

Over the next hour others were welcomed and soon Esme and Kumiko were making their way into the Royal Box, taking their seats among the rest of the Royal Family and Household, there were two empty chairs in the box. Silence fell in the auditorium, the lights were down for a brief moment before coming up again on the stage and then the Valtheim Guards Band struck up the fanfare that was the traditional start for the night, everyone stood as Emperor Peter Azurewind and his fiancee Renee Sandiego entered the Royal Box and took their seats. When the fanfare was over Oliver Thornton the Speaker of the Achkaerinese Senate stood on the stage behind a podium.

"Your Majesty, Your Royal Highness's, Lords, Ladies and Gentlemen." Oliver said "Tonight as we have for every Memorial Day since the first one in 1946 we come together tonight in this place to remember those that fell in the conflict regardless of sex, colour or creed. This year is a momentous year for the Achkaerinese Armed Forces in particular the Achkaerin Air Force which celebrates it's centenary as a formal branch of the Armed Forces. We also pay special tribute this year to those who fell under the banner of the Commonwealth Treaty Organisation as the Holy Empire of Achkaerin prepares to leave that organisation. We begin with the recognition of the battles of Flanders in southern Vanora a battle that celebrates it's eightieth anniversary this year."

A spotlight now came up on Princess Cerys Azurewind standing centrally she looked up as the spotlight lit her up and spoke the poem:

"Oh! you who sleep in Flanders Fields,
Sleep sweet - to rise anew!
We caught the torch you threw
And holding high, we keep the Faith
With All who died.

We cherish, too, the poppy red
That grows on fields where valor led;
It seems to signal to the skies
That blood of heroes never dies,
But lends a lustre to the red
Of the flower that blooms above the dead
In Flanders Fields.

And now the Torch and Poppy Red
We wear in honor of our dead.
Fear not that ye have died for naught;
We'll teach the lesson that ye wrought
In Flanders Fields."

The spotlight dimmed and Cerys left the auditorium floor for the stage, it wouldn't be the last contribution from a Royal in the event but it was what they did during it. A few moments later the festival moved on as a choir of Military Wives took centre stage, while they sang a torch was brought up from one end of the auditorium and brought to the stage.
"With this torch of remembrance we remember all who gave their lives in the Great War and all conflicts since. May they never be forgotten. With this we reaffirm our commitment to caring for those in need, standing with those who serve and striving for justice." the Sgt who'd brought the torch in proclaimed before handing it to Cerys who placed it in a stand on the stage.

“Over the last two years we have seen the servicemen and women of the Achkaerinese forces deployed across many different situations on Mundus, some under their own banner others under the banner of the Commonwealth Treaty Organisation, and some have made the ultimate sacrifice, giving their lives to save others.” Oliver said “Tonight is our tradition we welcome the relatives of those that have died in service.” there was a moment’s silence then one of Achkaerin’s lesser known musical artists, Taylor Davis started playing a melody on her violin, as she did so a group of relatives of fallen Achkaerinese soldiers walked in through the supportive audience that stood out of respect and then out onto the arena floor where an honor guard of the Mossflower Irregulars stood, the relatives made their way across the floor to the stage where they took their seats in front of the orchestra.

“This year.” Oliver said “The Royal Hospital for Veteran’s has begun to admit its first veteran’s of the first Toshikawan Civil War, the work of the staff there and all those involved in the outreach program’s is something truly exceptional, the care given to the veteran’s of wars gone by, the commitment, the sensitivity and the respect is an example to many others. And it is an honor to welcome all veteran’s of conflicts here tonight. We have here represented tonight those veteran’s.” Once more the audience stood and applauded in the Achkaerinese veteran’s of wars gone by. They paraded in taking their seats in front of the orchestra. Oliver then looked up at the Royal Box, and was relieved as Peter had left the box since this next bit was important “Ladies and Gentlemen please welcome His Royal Highness Prince Jack Azurewind

The lights on the stage focused on Jack as he started to sing, his song was the Last Goodbye as he sang, from the five entrances into the arena came members of the various branches of the forces each of them carrying a drum it was time to get to the serious part of the evening, the drums were placed together in the centre of the arena until they formed the Drumhead and then the standards of the Achkaerinese forces were paraded in, led by the Air Force and Navy and then those of the Army. Two standards went to the Drumhead, the first the Achkaerinese flag carried by a veteran of the Toshikawan Civil War in the nineteen eighties, the other was one of the paraded standards, each standard was on a rota for this role - this year it was the standard of the Wyvern Legion, carried by Corporal Maisie Adams the two standards stood either side of the Drumhead as another group made their way onto the floor it was led by  Alexis Minette the High Priestess of the Cult of Namis, it was traditionally the case that the High Priestess wore something regal or regal like on this occasion but Alexis wasn’t she was wearing a simple black skirt, a red top and over that her service jacket, she headed to the stage followed by the other Achkaerinese religious leaders. Behind them came Major Fleur Mishima, the senior officer on parade, she was carrying in both her hands, clutched to her chest a white leather bound book - the Book of Remembrance, containing the names of all the servicemen and women who had given their lives. Fleur went to the Drumhead and placed the book on top of it before taking a step back and reflecting. On the stage Alexis had taken the podium from Oliver and had been joined by Peter.

“Your Majesty, Your Royal Highness’s, Honored Guests, Lords, Ladies and Gentlemen.” Alexis said “We come now to the formal part of the evening, the service of remembrance. This is a gathering that reflects the nature of all those that serve, all who have served and all who have made the ultimate sacrifice. It is a multi-faith gathering. We begin with our traditional opening song - Edelweiss

When the first song, a traditional Achkaerinese one finished, Fleur stepped to the side of the Drumhead and saluted Peter, who returned the salute
“Your Majesty the Drumhead is assembled. Permission to begin the Muster?” Fleur asked
“Permission granted Major.” Peter said
“Sgt Major.” Fleur barked at the soldier conducting the orchestra “Begin the Muster.”

It was quite simple what would happen now, Alexis would announce in turn each element of the Achkaerin Forces that were going to be on parade first up as the music suggested was the Army, with representatives from the frontline soldiers, the special forces, the armored corp, medical personnel and cadets, they formed the front of two blocks with a central aisle to the Drumhead between them created. The music changed and now the Navy marched in with the same breadth of representatives as the Army had they had their sailors, their officers, their cadets and their medics. Next with another change in music entered the Air Force representatives they had pilots, navigators, controllers, medics and cadets. Finally the members of the civilian services entered from the sides and stood around the edge of the parade.

“In the book of Rebirth. It is written.” Alexis said “When the great unspokens darkest form lay broken and slain at her feet the Goddess Namis turned to the people of the chosen land and extended her hands, the souls of the dead were summoned once more to walk the soil of Mundus. ‘It is done!’ she declared ‘The journey is complete, the slate is wiped clean death is conquered, war is finished, peace is victorious, the sacrifices of the dead are recorded and all who are worthy in heart and deed shall sing the long song of peace in Meridian.’” it was probably the first time some of the guests had heard a quotation from the holy scriptures of the Cult of Namis contained in their holy book the Trinity Tome. Alexis looked around for a second before stepping back and allowing the Priestess of the Cult of Helus Hannah Barker to step forwards. She wore a simple red dress her sword tied on a gold cord around her waist.

“Members of the Imperial Armed Forces I have here a letter from King David of East Moreland addressed to you which I shall now read.” Hannah said “To the Men and Women of the Imperial Armed Forces.

May The Gods Watch Over You and Your Swords Stay Sheathed.

King David III of East Moreland.”
“We now join together in our Armed Forces Hymn.” Alexis said, this was a hymn that had its origins in the War of the Five Queen’s back in the mid seventeen hundreds but it was most closely associated with the Great War when it had echoed across Mundus such had been the Achkaerinese deployments throughout that period of time. It was actually likely that some of the special guests were familiar with it.

When they’d finished singing that the Bishop of Ashwood Martin Deed stood centrally on the stage.
“Divine Spirit, source of all being, from whom we emerge and to whom we return, we have gathered today to remember lives lost in war. For it is written,
"Greater love hath no man than this, that he lay down his life for his friends."
We are thankful for the great love that gave us freedom and for the sacrifice of those who died that we may live in freedom. But we wonder sometimes if our freedom was not bought at too dear a cost.” Martin said
“And we pray for peace among the nations, and dialogue between warring factions. May we always remember those who died in war and persecution.” this was Bishop Katherine St Claire of the Church of the Revealed Saint she was stood on the left hand side of the stage “not only the soldiers, but the civilians who were raped and tortured and butchered. May we honour those who stood as a witness for peace, because they would not turn their hands to killing.”
“May our lives and our communities be a beacon of justice, peace and hope, and may our words and deeds be a witness for peace, all the days of our lives.” now the leader of the Rosarity community in Achkaerin Asano Yūki said standing on the right hand side of the stage “And when we fall into strife and bitterness, may we forgive ourselves and others, and work for reconciliation and renewed trust.”
“We would live our own lives in such a manner that we plant seeds of peace, and not seeds of war. We would work for peace and justice and tolerance, so that war may be prevented. For we are held in your vast and mysterious love, each life a bright thread in the tapestry of being, and all are one, and one is all, and the divine life shines in each and all.” Hannah finished the prayer off from her position just next to Martin.

While the prayer had been spoken, Peter had made his way down to the Drumhead where he stood with it behind him facing the massed ranks of the Achkaerinese Armed Forces stood at attention it was time for the reason they were all there it was time to pay their respects.

“They shall grow not old as we that are left grow old, age shall not weary them nor the years condemn.” Peter said, getting slightly emotional as he always did when he did this “At the going down of the Sun and in the morning. We will remember them.”
“We will remember them” was the echoing answer from all present, The Last Post sounded out from a bugler on the stage, the two standards beside the Drumhead and those standing behind the orchestra were lowered and the auditorium fell silent as each paid their silent thanks and respects to the fallen, reigning down on the centre of the auditorium was what could have looked like red rain, these were poppies, some of them resting on the headdresses and shoulders of the people on parade. Peter had eye contact with Fleur it was strange that the two knew each other since they hardly inhabited the same social circles but her grandfather was the reason, his deeds during the Great War meant that Fleur got a lot of attention, not that she ever said a word about it publicly and even in private it was rare. When the two minutes was over it was signalled by the sounding of the Reveille, Peter stepped to the side of the Drumhead as the standards were raised once more. On the stage Alexis moved to the front. But also two more people entered the floor taking positions one on the stage and one in the aisle at the back of the massed ranks.

“When you go from here tell them of us and say” Alexis said “For our tomorrows these gave their today.”

That was it there was just one more thing to do the orchestra struck up one last time for the traditional finale - the Achkaerinese national anthem I Vow To Thee My Country, during the singing of this the torch was taken from its stand by the Sgt who’d carried it in and handed to Lori Downing to take out with her. At the Drumhead the other person who’d entered at the end of the silence Fiona Minette the younger sister of the High Priestess had walked up to the Drumhead where Fleur had handed her the Book of Remembrance, now Fiona turned and with Lori ahead of her and the two standards from the Drumhead behind, walked down the aisle. Now Peter started applauding and soon all gathered were applauding the people stood in the centre.

Now to complete the evening there was the reception.

TYP enjoyed this entire spectacle, truly, and now he was alone with Kathryn Deed along with the veteran couple who were luckily pre-occupied with themselves. "So...*kisses her hand gently* How's things going on back at home Katie?" Kathryn was TYP's childhood friend and adoptive sister of the sorts ever since Sister Arilda decided to give him to Bishop Deed, leader of the Celestian Catholic Church in Achkaerin, to act as his principal mentor and father figure. TYP, like with similar women, was mesmerised by...yes you figured it by now, Kathry's looks and smarts, a woman of his calibre, a woman of his dreams certainly and naturally didn't want to let go of her hand, but considering she was his close friend wouldn't mind holding it a bit longer. Oh God he thought for himself, I am but a humble and simple servant of yours trying to uphold purity and dignity when the challenges regarding women are just encoraching on me...He took the opportunity to small-talk before proceeding down to the reception area.

Meanwhile King Oscar III of Balticum was having a talk with Duke Lawrence Alleine and his veteran couple were busy looking at the steam of officials from their seats. A smart and brilliant fellow he thought, at least he had someone sensible to talk to and not with some typical dumb nut idiot. "You see I can't wait for Maki Hamer to become the next monarch of Balticum, she got the brains and looks for this type of job, she'll win the hearts of all socialist and liberal-minded Baltic citizens and considering this is after all a day for the veterans, even the military, I'm sure she'll perform well in this front, she'll become the youngest commander-in-chief ever in our nation's history..."

The reception was being held in the Emperor's suite in short a large function room it was a post festival tradition that the VIP's gathered afterwards Peter stood conversing with Fleur, the Major far less nervous afterwards than she had been before the evening had started. Then Alexis came over.
"Congratulations Your Eminence." Peter said
"Your Majesty." Alexis said
"I must say the shift to an inter faith approach went well." Peter said
"Thank you." Alexis said, she'd been fairly vocal ever since being anointed as High Priestess about the need for more inter faith relationships and understanding and there were things in the works there.

It was at that point he Pope walked into the room, Kathryn not far behind she went straight to her father.
"I miss that." Fleur said "Though quite what my grandfather would say about Mundus now I have no idea."
"He'd say it was worth fighting for." Peter said
"That he would." Fleur said "But he'd also say the fight's not yet over, it'll never be over. Not until the very end."
"You've got all his speech's memorized haven't you?" Peter asked
"Yes." Fleur said
"I think your namesake may want a word." Alexis said
"Come on then." Peter said motioning Alexis to come with him.

The Seer of Ebb found the memorial interesting, certainly different from the spectacle back home. Remembrance in Ahkabnil was more of a festival, a celebration of the war's end, a reverence for death and the valiant blood shed by both victorious and fallen soldiers. Ahkabnil wasn't as somber, the Seer didn't quite understand their depression over the situation, but he observed nevertheless. When the Seer reflected on it a bit more however, perhaps it wasn't so different in his mind, the cultural perceptions were interesting things to ponder as he sat there. When the ceremony ended, and the veteran the Seer tagged along got a decent cameo, the High Umam carried himself on to the reception as the old Oqiilchich made his way to the hotel, giving into his need for rest. To two gave their indifferent goodbyes for the cameras and parted ways, the Oqiilchich veteran would be on a flight back to Ahkabnil by tomorrow upon his request.

"Good evening." the Seer of Ebb approached whoever was receiving him, as he walked into the Emperor's Suite. "A fine memorial service." he complimented.

"Martin...it's great to see you again, oh how longed to witness your presence once more haha!" TYP gave Bishop Deed a hug and greeted him happily, his once old Mentor who raised up to become who he was today alongside the Mhorish Sister Arilda. This was also the perfect opportunity to have a private converstion with him during this evening, there was a few things he'd wanted to see things through first. "This evening has been wonderful so far Pete, thanks for this fantastic memorial show, great to see my country being honored and such, important not to forget one's heritage. If I may, may I borrow Bishop Deed for a minute?" TYP then turned his attention to the old mentor and asked him if he could confess his sins..."There's a private room here somewhere if I remember correctly the last time I was here with you guys?"

"Right this way" Martin said, showing the Pope through to a room that wasn't really used for much at all, it had in a past life been the resident choirmasters flat but was now the archives, perfectly suitable in terms of privacy. Meanwhile Kathryn and the Emperor exchanged glances just what was this about? But then Simon found his father

"How was the coronation?" Peter asked
"Pretty good." Simon said "Usual crowd."
"Did you give Orion the envelope?" Peter asked
"Yes." Simon said "We'll have to wait and see if he takes us up on that."
