Operation Auahitūroa
« on: April 14, 2018, 02:08:32 PM »

Squadon Leader Anahera and his co-pilot Flight Liutenant Ngaire kept low across the Sea of Kyne with the three other Taha aircraft following, their aircraft was the only one carrying weapons while the others had hardpoints stuffed full of drop tanks. The boffins back home had calculated the refueling points to the milimeter and as each point came up Anahera would drop back into position, refill his aircrafts emptying tanks and fly onwards, soon the two where left with only one aircraft. The two Taha Fighter Bombers left looked identical until you examined the markings, one bore the "Kiwi Roundal" of the Commonwealth's air-force while Anahera's own aircraft bore the yellow lion roundal of Royal Seleucid, the aircraft having never been repainted since it was captured during the occupation. It had been kept just for occasions such as this.

After the final refuelling buddy left them they gained altitude and soon saw the flashing lights of the carrier The Arawa. It had been strategically placed to allow its Moana fighter bombers to continue the refuelling process. Some 500km off the coast of Seleucid the Moana's fell back to the carrier some 1,000km away, the rest of the plan was all down to praying the Seleucid military were as slack as the Morelander files from the genocide of the Cultists suggested, those files had included details of the Seleucid Air Defence network and using that knowledge the Taha was able to thread into Seleucid airspace, its transponder gave out a Seleucid code and visually they looked like a home nation aircraft. Within 40km of the target the four missiles were launched and the throttle pushed forward. The missiles cut a bright arc through the night sky heading out into the centre of the Seleucid desert. Two of the missiles had the same target, a storage facility for chemicals in this case Tributylamine, one of the precursers for Sarin. The other two missiles hit railbridges making the connection to the facility the other two had just hit.[1] The two Maori pilots dropped to ground level and threading the eye of the air defence needle once more headed back out to the Kyne meeting its refuelling buddies the Moana re-launched from The Arawa. By the time they reached home air-space they'd refuelled eight times and both felt like they could sleep for a week.

Already reports where coming in of radio chatter and media reviews of the attack, allegedly hitting a fertilizer plant and a civilian railway line.

MANGAI NUI JOURNALISTS ARRESTED FOR SPYING

Following the terrorist attack by The Commonwealth of the Iwi it was uncovered that members of the Mangai Nui newspaper, a Maori propaganda mouthpiece, had played a role in organising and supporting attacks upon the Kingdom. In total 3 members of the "news team" were taken into custody, with one being released an hour later without charge. The two remaining journalists who are yet to be named have been charged with spying offences.

The raid was carried out by members of the armed forces who recovered hundreds of photos taken of targets, including some of those attacked by The Iwi's Air Force. Additionally a radio was discovered set up to transmit information back to Port Hunter clandestinely. A spokesman for the Ministry of Justice said, "It is clear these men played a role in passing sensitive information about our nation back to their terrorist masters. As such we have seen our nations infrastructure damaged, and ten civilians murdered. These two will be charged with espionage, conspiracy to murder and criminal damage. They will appear in court in the morning."

It was confirmed that a chemical fertiliser plant was hit by missiles fired by the Iwi, possibly supported by their CNN allies of Lodja, East Moreland, Ui Cenneslaig and the Ecclesiastical State something that is being investigated. The commander of the armed forces, Stelian Akarian, stated, "Currently we are looking for methods to ensure this cowardly attack can not happen again to us. We believe an aircraft carrier assault was carried out and so we will be searching for it and monitoring its activity."

The Arawa had a good 20 hour if not more head start over the Seleucid navy. They had heard via media reports and the like that the Seleucid fleet was heading Southwest looking for them, what their intention would then be was anyones guess but it would be interesting. As such the Captain of The Arawa turned them North West, by the time the Seleucid had reached their current position they'd have cut back behind them, hopefully leaving options for further operations.

The bad news though was the interference of the various other navies, they were an unknown so few nations had even made statements about the situation. King Piripi knew that the CNN would not likely unconditionally support them as after all they were the aggressor, rightfully so, in this situation. As the aircraft carrier turned back towards the coast of Aranye they left one destroyer ploughing on their original course, hopefully leaving an electronic signature that a fleet was there buying them extra time.

ERS Dionysus

The Destroyer had ploughed its way across the Kyne escorted by a pair of Frigates and a further pair of subs and now sat almost 2000km East of the Andean Peninsular. The Captain of the ship, a man in his 50's with a dark beard with flecks of white in it, sat watching a feed of various images come across his viewing screen as he casually waved at a junior rating to keep scrolling through them. "There, back one" He leaned forward in his comfortable padded captains chair. "Mark its position and relay the information to the fire control officer" he leaned back intertwining his fingers and resting them on his slightly rounded belly. "Bring me a tea" he barked at another junior rating who quickly disappeared from the bridge, "Change course to bearing 260 full speed." he issued the order to the helmsmen before sitting quietly. "Thank you" he said with a beaming smile to the junior with the tea which was served in a pure white porcelain cup and saucer. He felt the engines reach maximum output and looked at his watch, about thirty minutes and they'd be in position. "Contact home and see if things have changed?"

Over the next half an hour messages came backwards and forwards as HQ relayed instructions to the Captain. He headed outside to have a cigar and watch the stars for a moment while he considered the instructions he'd been given. He savoured the taste of the tobacco before throwing the glowing stub into the Kyne and heading back inside. "Everyone to firing stations" he instructed his 2 I.C who picked up the intercom and relayed the instructions, they could feel people en mass moving around the ship as they waited for the various stations to check in and once the final one came in the Captain took the microphone. "Crew, we have been instructed to strike back against the terrorist nation of the Iwi. These savages have sought to harm our homeland and now we shall prevent them profiting from our nations efforts for them decades ago. Tonight you will strike back. I expect good order, I expect high standards and I expect success." he handed the microphone back. "Fire four when ready on designated target."

"Aye Sir" came the reply as messages swung back and forth, from the front of the ship four flaming columns reached up into the sky as the cruise missiles flew away. It would take them just under an hour to reach their destination and already the flotilla was heading back towards home waters.

The target was completely unprepared, the gas rig that at one time had been the Ipsus III and was now named after some Maori mythical creature was on the verge of changing shifts when the first missile hit. The rig caught fire and those workers onboard hurried for their safety gear, it would do them little good as the second missile hit a tank engulfing much of the platform in a fireball. The other two missiles were intended for a Seleucid built gas port some 40km away on the mainland, however thanks to the Morelander installed Jekars Shield system one was intercepted while the other ended up splashing harmlessly into the sea about 500 meters away causing only a minor tsunami.

OOC - Agreed with Ben

The Commonwealth of the Unified Iwi's Submarine Kahutara had been given a simple task, probe the Seleucid waters and see if there was a position it could hide away in ready for a potential cruise missile strike against the Seleucids. It was a pretty routine sub operation, avoid detection, take things nice and slow and just wait. The crew had practised this many times in war games with their countrymen but this was the first time they'd played for real. So far things had gone well and after three days they'd managed to park up around 25km off the coast, when the Captain lifted the periscope he could make out the coastline in the distance and the odd ship coming and going from their old foe.

It was however on the forth day that things went wrong. A sudden metallic "clunk" was heard and the sub shook, "What's happening?" The Captain asked as the submarine recovered from the shock.

"Checking now sir" a frantic officer yelled as he began checking various lights on a control panel. Even before he'd finished a call came through from the engine rooms informing them that they had a clutch warning light on. "It seems sir we've some kind of mechanical fault, means we can still move but not something we'd want to be sat around with."

"Agreed" the captain nodded nervously, "Set a course for home, take her nice and steady." he watched as his crew set about turning the sub around and gingerly plotting a return to port and repairs. The sub was an older model, but it had been serviced well so the Captain was sure they'd make it home. He settled into a seat and waited as his well drilled team set about their duties. It was however only 80km later that another disaster struck.

The Casisto patrol aircraft was carrying out one of the many sweeps it had been allocated in the last few days, ever since the situation with the Iwi had come about there had been an increase in sorties and a nervousness in High Command. Now the crew of this particular aircraft where on their second run of the day. "Okay, we're on track, drop the buoys" the commander ordered. In the back a weapons officer flicked a series of switches and the system deployed a number of the listening devices. It didn't take long and the airmen at the listening desk raised a hand.

"Sir, I've got something" he handed his head set over and the weapons officer smiled, patting him on the shoulder. "Sounds like a loud sub"

"Mark it" the Weapons officer returned to the cockpit and passed on the news showing the pilot on the map. "We'll make another pass, double check and then if authorised we can drop some depth chargers. We've also the Cleopatra and a duo of patrol ships in the area, could be it's target?"

"I don't know but sounds a plan" the pilot banked steeply and took a 2nd run over the area and received confirmation that they had indeed found something suspicious. As expected they radioed it back to High Command who were only too happy to green light the use of depth chargers in order to "warn" the sub. That in mind the crew set up on their third run and this time dropped four charges what they hoped would be either side of the sub. On board the submerged vessel the explosions rocked the ship and they tried to increase their speed while weaving to try and avoid the next wave. The Seleucid plane however dropped more forcing them to take more avoiding action, it was pointless though, they were already mechanically wounded and as the Captain requested more speed a loud "clang" came at the same time as the explosion to starboard.

"We've no choice, we can't risk being underwater and engineless" the Captain made the decision as yet another depth charge rocked them. The crew resigned themselves to their fate and surfaced. The crew took to life rafts as they prayed the patrol aircraft above them didn't open fire with anything else, as the last of the crew entered the water the Captain took one last look around his sub and satisfied everyone was off made his way to the arms locker. He removed two charges and placed them on the spots on the hull he'd been shown in training, satisfied everything was in order he made one last inspection, climbed the ladder and joined his crew in one of the lifeboats. As they cleared the submarine the Cleopatra and two patrol boats came into view. The Captain pressed the button on the remote and a loud "BANG" was heard consigning the sub to the deep. An hour later the captain and his men found themselves locked in various spots around the Seleucid ship.

Admiral Lucas Harper was not in the best of moods as his ship, the outgoing flagship of the Achkaerinese Navy, the INS Intrepid cruised into the centre of the Kyne. After the ships deployment to Phuebra it had been scheduled for a voyage home for decommissioning but then this had happened so now the ships final hurrah was this tricky little situation, they weren't the only Achkaerinese ships in the area either two Riviere Class destroyers the INS Ninetales and the INS Riviere as well as the INS Saix were deployed closer to a designated area while two Valtheim Class frigates the INS Mossflower and the INS Valor were the escort for the Intrepid.

"Admiral." Lucas's XO, Commander Cooper said "We're estimating to be on station within seventy two hours."
"Good." Lucas said, that would put them on the edge of the designated area "Have Captain Sherwood begin flight operations, 'Kestrel' mission profile."
"Aye sir." Cooper said

In Valtheim the Emperor of Achkaerin Peter Azurewind was sat in one of the most common type of briefings he'd had in recent years, but also the one type of briefing he hated - a military one. Here he was sat at the round table in the Marble Palace with the appropriate people sat around with him, on his feet in front of the large screen at the far end of the room from Peter was Admiral Joseph Stapleton, the director of naval operations, the screen displayed a map of the Kyne.

"The simple truth Your Majesty is that this is a situation spiralling right out of control, we have two reasonably strong forces engaging each other in the Kyne, we've seen a strike against Royal Seleucid's chemical weapons capability, a strike against an Iwi oil rig and now an incident with an Iwi nuclear submarine." Stapleton said "We have designated an area that incorporates several major shipping routes and have advised all civilian shipping to avoid it. Our carrier in the area the Intrepid will be on station within seventy two hours at that point our other ships in the region will rendezvous with them and assume a monitoring posture. Aircraft will be flying a 'Kestrel' profile."
"Remind what that is Admiral." Peter said
"Surveillance and recon." Stapleton said "No engagement unless engaged first."
"Celine?" Peter asked looking at his defence advisor Celine Tyler
"We're talking about two nations with proud military's that have decent punch and two nations that have a significant history with each other." Celine said "It's going to get messy."
"Nettie?" Peter asked now turning to his foreign affairs advisor Nettie Taylor

"Diplomatically it's already a dark shade of grey." Nettie said "The Iwi asked the CMA to do something, the CMA did half of it and then the Iwi went before the second report came in. However both the report from Bretonnia and the report from Achkaerin's MDI are conclusive, the chances are that the weaponized plague originated in Royal Seleucid but that doesn't mean Royal Seleucid's government is responsible, this could be a rogue faction within the state and we can't rule out the possibility of a by chance weaponization by a group of unrelated terrorists."
"Answer me this Nettie." Peter said "Do you think these 143 Iwi crew are going to get a fair trial?"
"Considering the background to the current situation and that the Iwi's crusade to get justice for war crimes has at times violated international laws such as the Fair Seas Concordat my gut says that's unlikely, though I hope I'm wrong." Nettie said
"What do you want us to do Your Majesty?" Stapleton asked, almost leaning on the table

Peter drummed his fingers against the table as he thought through his decision what to do? This was one very tricky situation.
"Deploy the Hope, Quasar, Iona Azurewind, Amazon and the Orichalcos to the area" Peter said, that was essentially four support craft all unarmed and one combat ship "Nothing beyond that deployment wise unless this goes really bad. Monitor the situation and protect civilian shipping, keep a close eye especially on ships flying the Seleucid and Iwi flags. East Moreland have got their ships on the way to be ready just in case Akakois fancies taking a run at the Celtic Protectorate, I want that borne in mind as well. Meanwhile we'll take the diplomatic approach, summon the Seleucid ambassador."

Albrecht had been sitting together with Robert, Matilda and Nikolaus for three night already, working out potential solutions. It was a constant back and forth, without even having the conflict parties involved. They had been adopted by the Iwi as a nation, and their people where proud, never going down on a promise. Yet the way the Iwi had spearheaded was in no way excusable, even if understandable. At the same Time the Selucid had not defused the situation in the slightest. No word about their Sickness getting out of hand, no promise of aid. nothing. Then they blow up a gas rig and invalidate their victim role just as much.

"It is decided then." Nikolaus Straußenhoff said, bringing together his papers: "We, diplomatically, tell them to stop acting like children arguing about who destroyed the sandcastle and get their arse together on a table."

"Won't be easy." Matilda added, sipping some coffee as the sun was setting outside: "The Iwi will expect anyone arrested if they are a high ranking military officer, and will not forgive lightly if anyone disrespects this."

"Then, we will ask them to send Negotiators. Why not assume a role that befits our outlook on the World?" Robert added, leaning on his cane.

"That might just work. Let us see if we can get something working." Albrecht said, before the work of yet another night bore fruit.

--------------------------------------------------------

To the Kings of the Realms at the Verge of War,

the Senate and Regent of Neu Uburzis urge you to halt your fighting. We understand the desire for Retribution, we can feel the wish to Avenge, to bring Justice. We can see reason in the action of both of your Nations, yet, we do not see Hope in the Path currently chosen.
If your Troops engage again, what results are to be expected? Will not another son desire to punish the death of his Father? Will not another Mother mourn the Death of her Daughter? It is not our place to tell you the Path you have Chosen is wrong, a Decision made is never wrong, it just has different consequences.
We do however offer you, if your Nations agree, to host an attempt to prevent more Bloodshed. We understand the Judgement you lay over each other, and to accommodate for it, thus we suggest the following agreement ahead of a summit:

1. There shall be held a Summit between the two Nations involved in the recent skirmishes, the goal of said summit shall be to prevent a war and help develop lasting Peace.

2. None of the Participating Parties engage Institutions or Land considered by the other Party as their Property or Territory with Military Vessels or Personal as long as the Summit is held.

3. Both Parties agree to send up to Three Negotiators to the City of Neu Uburzis for a Summit, while none of the People Sent must have been old enough to serve the Military, or have actively fought, in the Separation Conflict between then two Nations.

4. The Empire of Neu Uburzis grants Save Passage for all Participants of the Summit, save they fulfill the requirements set in Point 3.

5. Participants of the Summit shall be off high enough standing in their nation to be able to conduct Negotiations effectively.

This is only a suggestion, no demand. If your Nations wish for amendments before you are able to agree, we would be eager to listen to reason.

Representing Emperor Orion the first of Uburzis in the Role as Prince Regent:

Colonel Graeme Cavanah tossed the brown folder back onto his desk, things were spiralling out of control in Seleucid. So far they'd had two strikes, one by each side and now a submarine caught lurking. The people within the 60 square kilometer piece of land was a haven for the small Cultist population of Selucid, some 250,000 of them now after the attempted genocide, and while not all of them could squeeze into the Protectorate it was in some ways reassuring to know that the Cenneg military force was close by if they needed it. "What word we have from home?" Cavanah asked his 2nd in command.

"The King's sending a fleet this way to suppliment the Frigate and the Amphib." The Captain scanned the paperwork, "We're getting the Cormac carrier, two Destroyers and the Aid Command ship. The plan is for incase we have to evacuate anything"

"Excellent, I think we'll stage some deployment exercises, let people remember we're here and what we're up to." the Captain scribbled down some details and then set about transmitting the details for public consumption.

NOTICE FROM THE CELTIC PROTECTORATE

Notice is hereby given that forces from Ui Cenneslaig based in the Celtic Protectorate of Royal Seleucid will be conducting a series of military deployment exercises. This will include four naval vessels from our homeland joining us. It is hoped that the passage of these vessels is not impeded. Furthermore it is expected that aviation assets will be joining us in the coming days. As these exercises take place we urge the nations of Royal Seleucid and The Unified Iwi to stand down their own forces and resolve their differences by talking.

The Ríocht de Uí Ceinnselaig forces remain committed to the Ipsus Agreement signed between the Celtic Protectorate, East Moreland and Royal Seleucid and would, in the spirit of international co-operation urge all nations to abide by the agreement.

Signed
Colonel  Graeme Cavanah
Military Governor of the Celtic Protectorate

IRN Elsa in the Kyne

With the decommissioning of the Reverence Class Captain Penrose had a period of adjustment, however, the anti-piracy patrols in the Kyne had proven quite useful in acquainting her with her new vessel. As usual, however, there was always someone, somewhere, intent upon throwing a wrench into the mix. Joined by the Mizuchi Class destroyers Defiance and Siren, the Resolute Class frigate Arbiter, and the Ruby Class submarines Hunting Girl and Warheart she had been ordered to rendevous with the forces of Achkaerin in the region. With Rokkenjiman shipping in the region, from liners to commercial transit, it was naturally a concern of the First Empire to ensure the situation did not spiral hopelessly out of control.

With the Strike Group set to arrive on the scene within the next day Penrose turned her attention to reviewing various reports concerning her vessel, while Imperial High Command dispatched a message to Achkaerinese command to keep them updated on the Rokkenjiman deployment.

I am afraid we must decline your offer as we do not negotiate with terrorists, nor can we comply by your conditions. Our nation was subject to great hardship at the hands of Seleucid until 2001 and until that time every person within our Commonwealth was involved in the conflict, be it as a combatant or victim. Therefore the oldest person meeting your criteria would be 17 years of age and of insufficient standing to represent our nation. We shall not negotiate with a nation that subjected our people to being guinea pigs for biological weapons and have recently used that knowledge to unleash the bubonic plague upon Mundus.
